i did lost mines and the unquiet dead for my first campaigns as a dm with all of my party being newbies
it was a little dicey (pun intended) but i think most of them had fun
sounds like a fun module to try
arent puns supposed to br not intended
They can be intended
Like, that’s a lot of dad jokes
indeed its why they can come off punny but not always funny 🙂
i guess its phony
lmao
can be but no pony 🙂
ded chat
Hey
hello
You can continue asking your funny questions though
its funny??? 😔
How are yall
i want to play a DnD game
that doesnt last longer than 10 minutes
Me alive
😂 😂 😂
lol
hi everyone
Nah I want one to last for a hot min
Heyo
im super new to dnd but i wanna learn it so bad
I'm semi new
Its funny because it sounds like you don't know what dnd is and want to see how far you can stretch its limits
semi new to
Ik how to play and ik the basics
To anyone who wants to learn
Read up on the first few chapters of the free basic rules on #learn-to-play , and feel free to ask any questions you might have. Then, make a practice character and get it reviewed in #character-discussion .
Once you’re ready and got the fundamentals down, you can check out #find-a-game for information on how to find a group online. To make a post, type the appropriate command in any chat channel.
Like asking if we can play basketball in speedos or if we can kick someone in the shins during basketball
thank you!!!
i don't know DnD, my attention span is too short to read ALL of the rules and mechanics, AND i can't be available for longer than 5 minutes
Yeah maybe it ain't for you lol
Warforged are great
all im doing to chat with AI until it forgots its own plot and reset
Tbh I been making my character for the past 2 weeks
Arashi Mk-II
i was making an artificer clasd then some guy said artificer isn't part of the core classes so im trying to optimize for the past week
No need to optimise
i chose rogue 😎
Aren't you the dm, just make whoever you want
Artificers are fine
You just need to pay for them
dmpc 😎
Yeah uh that's basically the dnd version of playing basketball in speedos mate
Those…are usually frowned upon in my experience
I haven't got to play my first dungeon yet
To each their own of course
Nobody around me wants to play
my bipolar personality disorder is getting put to good use indeed
How about online?
Once again I don't think personality disorders justifies the dnd version of playing basketball in speedos
This is my 1st server
eh, the difference between a DMPC and a NPC that joined the party to help them and stay in the background, basically the same, all about approach.
So imma see how this goes
But if you think that's okay that's okay, you can even have a whole litrpg by dming while controlling 4 characters at once
This is what one ao3 fanfic author did
I've been wanting to DM more, got any character ideas?
How to roll my character stats?
Dnd beyond
theres several options, so, best to ask your dm which they are using
Can ai be a dungeon master
point buy, 1d20, 3d6, 4d6 drop the lowest, etc
Wait till you’ve got a DM, but usually you roll 4d6 and drop the lowest dice. Do this 6 times, then delegate the numbers to a stat.
Yes but not well in the slightest
Mmm ok
it forgets after a short while
its good for the first 2 messages though
Maybe some Kind of moster that atacks wherever they take a long rest and but is is just like they bite you and you did not rest properly and this Will keep going till they kill the whole species?
oh, that was to Denji, I was asking if they had any ideas for characters they'd like to play
guy that does taekwondo but he has no legs
It eventually transitions into an interactive story/rpg thing, I think its more practical to have AI players while you yourself are the dm
Even then there's a good chunk of limitations, and is v exhausting
Yea I saw plenty of those on yt
I'll do it for a oneshot for giggles but stop there
But I don't wanna be a DM ik it's fun but I wanna be a player
dmpc 👉 👈 😂
I'm slow what does that mean
I prob know what it means
Just not shorten
you're a DM but also have a PC
kinda like having npcs except the npc has free will
which is you
often called dmpc
I seee
cause dm and pc
Ty for that
bad idea if you can't separate your memories
I can't lol
and prone to biasing
its fun being dmpc cause you can get to abuse separating memories and find ways to resist bias
or maybe its just me 😂
ok ded chat dam
everyone has jobs i guess
what time is it where ya'll at?
I have a bias the other way XD, my dmpc would die in the most idiotic ways
Sorry I was texting other chat
I'm in Thailand, just curious
if you have bias just roll a dice
nah, its more fun to use a DMPC as a canary in the coal mine for the party imo, everyones gangster til the DMPC is pincushioned by an unexpected trap
I just avoid DMPCs for effort reasons. No reason to have a full sheet for an npc that might just show up for a little bit.
Hello
And as the DM you get to make characters all the time anyways, no need to also take the one thing the players get to do.
oh damn, your improv skills must be insane, all my npcs got stats if theyre more than a villager
Im new in here
welcome!
Pizza
There's this thing called a monster statblock, it's neat!
mhm i know, i just, find it less interesting if every guard is identical
I don’t know why but k have the role fighter
same, hi!
Hi
For one thing, that's just the mechanics, not the narrative, and for another, you can easily adjust monster statblocks with little mechanical flourishes.
amazing
did you just join the server?
Yes
lol same
I was just searching people so I can play a campaign with some friends (and a special person)
Like, play with that person
No searching someone special in here
sounds like your preparing for a big campain
Oh no dude, I’m just a player not a dungeon master
Girl*
My bad
yea players can pepare to, like lore and what they might need
dude can be any gender
Eehh. I just want to avoid problems
like you have a backstory right
i just, idk, if these guards and people dont matter enough to have their own like, characteristics and quirks, the world feels hollow? How are my players supposed to care if I dont?
Well, Solid Snake counts?
awesome
I hope you find what you're looking for
Thanks
relatable
well I hope everying goes well 🙂
I only need a dm so I can organize with my friends
Thanks
aww cool. I'm here looking for my first game. i studied and played a solo AI game and kinda wanna try it lmao
Me too, I was in a irl campaign but only fridays after class
And then winter holidays hit
oof, i hear ya
i tend to forget i have other abilities other than "shoot", "punch", and "kick" 😂
It was a campaign of breath of the wild
wow that sound liek so much fun ngl
And I got a power of blood bending that I never managed to use
nice a bit of zelda
Yes, sadly it will take a time before I can keep going
lol mm that dubious food musta hit tho 🤣
Yes, because I had the magnesis power and guess what, there is metal in the blood
thanks for all the chats guys, gtg as gotta go test my cooking skillls for breakfeast for my other half
Aaahhwww that’s so sweet
bye byem thats so sweeet
ohh its going to be fun, i'm shillt at this
Remember, never drop something to tall if you’re going to put in oil
aite, imma head out for a walk in the sunshine. Layer ya'll
Bye
Searching for an adventure to play is hard.. I already checked the #looking-for-players but not all fits to my criteria
Then you just gotta wait and keep waiting, kobo pfp. Unless you wanna DM or look around on reddit, roll20 or dnd beyond forums
Or advertise yourself in need of a game by posting in #looking-for-dm . What are you after, and what can you bring?
Reddit? Dnd beyond forums? Ima try em Ig (Kobo pfp? I guess someone read my about me or watch hololive)
Ohh that's what is for? Ok ok
Cool!
To make a post, type /looking-for dm
Okay thanks
That should give ya a form to fill out
hi guys my brother and i recently got the stranger things dnd set to finally get in to the game, any suggestions/ideas on what we should do first? (im the dm)
-# repost because i sent in the wrong channel
Wassup everyone I never played dnd but would love to play like I kinda understand the game but at the same time I just feel like I need to play to fully understand the game so is anyone looking for a player ??😅😅
SAME
Both of you!

?newdm
- In Dungeons & Dragons, one person serves as the Dungeon Master, the game’s lead storyteller and referee. The DM runs the adventure for the players, who navigate its hazards and decide which paths to explore.

?dmtips
The most important part of being a good DM is facilitating the fun of everyone at the table. Keep these tips in mind to help things go smoothly:
D&D is about telling a story as a group, so let the players contribute to the outcome through the words and deeds of their characters. If some players are reluctant to speak up, ask them what their characters are doing.
The DM isn’t competing against the player characters. Your job is to referee the rules, run monsters, and keep the story moving.
Treat your players in a fair, impartial manner. The rules help you do this, but you can make your own rulings to ensure everyone is having fun.
Adventures have no prescribed outcome. You can alter any encounter to make it more interesting and fun for your players.
Dungeon Masters are fallible, just like everyone else, and even experienced DMs make mistakes. If you overlook, forget, or misrepresent something, correct yourself and move on. No one expects you to memorize every part of this adventure and all the rules in the Basic Rules. As long as your players are having fun, everything will be just fine.
hooray okay thanks so much
Also i recommend having a session zero (discuss boundaries, expectations, learn about the campaign and make characters), and always remember to communicate any issues
oohh got it
I finished the form and sent it I guess, do I wait it to be sended or there's some steps that I missed?
Wait 5 minutes, if you still don’t see it I’d say do it again
Ok ok
Though im not too well versed with using the channels
Yeah sometimes DIscord or the bots go a bit wonky and you may need to try running the command again
Make sure to run the command in a channel you can type in here
hey! i finished some parts and im wondering how the character creation thing works because i dont really understand half of the stuff on the links
Aight time for the simplified version:
two questions, are you using dnd beyond, and are you playing 2014 or 2024 rules?
yes im using dnd beyond and i dont know the difference in the two rules
Ummm, let’s just assume 2024 cuz that’s the current default for DnD beyond
okok
So, what have you got stuck on so far?
Have you got your class and species?
We'll get to the numbers in a moment.
And for the numbers, that’s likely your stats
I assume you don’t have a DM yet?
not yet 🙁
Very well, good to know
fighter & dragonborn i think is what that was
Nice choices
Now, we gotta go to background and stats.
I assume you don’t have any books for dnd beyond yet correct?
yes correct
Very well. Let’s do stats first: and let’s use standard array for simplicity’s sake
You have an array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8
Allot each number a corresponding stat
Do you want to use a strength or dexterity based fighter?
strength
okay hold on
-# I’m still holding on to everything that’s dead and gone~
?tag new fighter
Fighter
Master all weapons and armor
Fighters rule many battlefields. Questing knights, royal champions, elite soldiers, and hardened mercenaries—as Fighters, they all share an unparalleled prowess with weapons and armor. And they are well acquainted with death, both meting it out and defying it.
-# Suggested Standard Array assignment
Str. 15
Dex. 14
Con. 13
Int. 8
Wis. 10
Cha. 12
Likes: Weapons
Complexity: Low
Starting HP: 10 + Con. modifier
oooh
plummets to the void
ANYWAY
What stats did you decide? Or do you want a recommendation?
i more or less just followed this LOL!
I…don’t agree with that stat setup personally, but to each their own
There's like 4 ways to build Fighter, realistically 2 ways because the other 2 ways are dependent on you picking certain subclasses
Any variation of that, but with 14 con and 15 strength
ohh like what?
The rest doesn’t matter as much, except if you’re going for certain subclasses (notably 13 intelligence for Eldritch Knight)
so if i switch dex to 13 and con to 14 would that be good?
It works, yeah
okay great!
So its:
Strength Fighter
Dexterity Fighter
Int Fighter (For Eldritch Knight/Psi Warrior only)
Purple Dragon Knight Fighter
Int and Dragon Knight are basically variations of Dexterity Fighter
Strength Fighter has a lot more weapon choices and overall better melee damage output, Dexterity Fighter has better initiative and better ranged game
Let's try and keep things simple for the new folks here in #dnd-newcomers
They also work with strength fighter
But let’s not over complicate things
Now for your backstory!
Yeah just stick with strength or dexterity, no need to plan ahead for the rest
ohh yes i chose the dragonborn one does that mean this?
OK lets ponder
No they are like, certain subclasses for Fighter
Because they demand certain stats you basically build towards them from the start
But again, this requires you to plan for it first and at this stage you probably don't need to plan that far
Background and backstory aren’t the same btw
Backgrounds give mechanical buffs
whats the difference between
OH i spoke to soon
okok got it
While backstories give no mechanical stuff and are just how your character became who they were
Here, I’d recommend soldier
ookok got it im taking down notes
how do i relate the backstory to the new campaign i go to?
That would be a question for your DM once you find one :D
But make it vague enough to shape
OHH ok got it
Don’t mention anything that would give you too much importance in the world, don’t mention a very specific area that may or may not exist, and be open to change
so enough to shape my characters background but vague enough to make it viable to the story?
Three Sentence Backstory covering your origin, a turning point and your reason to adventure, using generic terms like "a big city" or "an evil cult."
I would start with str Fighter builds first btw, your ranged game isn't terrible with str Fighters
Dex Fighters want certain melee weapons
A lot of tables don’t even need it to fit the background, btw. Just write it vague enough for your concept to fit your vision.
Though, it’s often better to make another character for a campaign unless this fits very well.
so does something like :
A soldier who trained day and night to fight in the war gets hit. Waking up with no memory other than the intense training, I try and look for more to do with my unused skills.
?? IS THAT GOOD WHAT SHOULD I CHANGE
It’s good
Amnesia is a godsend for a dm because, as long as you’re okay with it, the dm can write a story for you
I wouldn’t call it a godsend, but yes it’s extremely versatile. And I’d expand on your motivation
Try to ensure your motives line up with the rest of the party
Which isn’t possible till you find a party
oh darn
So leave it loose enough (for example, maybe they wanna discover their past life and who they were, or find purpose. People die when they are forgotten, so what happens when one forgets themselves?)
You can coordinate more about this once you get into a campaign, don’t stress the details too hard before then
aside from those stuff what else do i need to know when creating a character?
i like that last line ALOT
Tytyty
You’ll need to do your skill proficiencies (go to class features), and you’ll need equipment
where do i go for equipment
Hello hello
Gooood morning afternoon evening!
Happy to help!
Oh gosh, we forgot their name!
It’s 10pm here 😊
Oh a fellow Aussie
oh hi fellow aussies
But anywho, welcome!
Lookup random fantasy name generator on the internet
How can I help ya?
Wait you too?
yep!
Mash your keyboard until you get something that looks cool
oh gosh a lot of these names r so hard to pronounce LOL
Random names!
Lance
Charon
Vashkar
Karvash
Peanuts
Frederick
Azumo
Gashtara
Pick what you like. I've got a fighter called Mani.
wait should my character be female or male? i think id prefer male since itd be cool if i were a female irl and male in dnd
Whatever you’re comfortable with
You can pronounce those letters anyway you want - you're playing a game of make believe!
mani the boxer
very good point u have
Gender is like the lowest importance detail in dnd
Unless you’re a drow
whats a drow?
DnD dark elves
I’ve seen male, female, robot, toast, vessel, and Goo
Pick whatever you want/are comfortable with
i like peanuts
Dark elf. Live underground, likes spiders, often knows the Undercommon language.
TOAST?? omg
They’re a super matriarchal society
Could be a nickname, or their real name could be like Penaritus or smt
Only in certain Drow cultures. Not all. Also we don't know what D&D setting these new folks are playing in so it may not even apply.
is nickname peanut real name rhudvath good
It is what the species is most known for, though
I know that there’s been a de radicalisation of it in recent lore tho
Well, then you should explain why their nickname is peanuts! Fun
yes !!
im starting to like dnd more and more
Great to hear!
i gotta fill up the form for the weapons and skill proficiency
talk to u guys later hopefully!!
Heyyyyy
I need help to know where to start
Came to the right place!

how are you orange thingy
i wanna be orange color
They’re a mod
can i be orang
Only if you become a moderator
sad
Thank you
So much
is it bad to make lots of homebrew mechanics if you're a newbie to being a DM (and a newbie to being a player)
If you get confused or overwhelmed, remember to take your time and ask questions here! We’ll answer them or send you to another channel that can answer them better
I don’t recommend it personally, but it’s quite common
im adding crits
Okay I will try my best
Crits already exist
If you roll a natural 20 on an attack roll, you double the damage dice
oh
i did mine on a range of 19-20
and hitting a crit increases the chances that you hit a crit again
Good news! I did it
I’d recommend running the basic game with the core rules first before adding homebrew just so you can better understand the game mechanics and the balance of the game.
I’m bad at math. This is why I never played before
Please don’t spam reacts/emojis/stickers and try and keep them in line with text so the meaning is conveyed to our blind/vision impaired users trying to follow the discussion using screenreaders/text to speech tools. Thanks!
-# Same also applies to cap locks
oh
Yeah and no strike through text
Oh? Didn’t know that
Yeah screenreaders don’t convey the text is struck through
oh im here because i'm a newcomer
unless i become a geek i suppose i can engage there
Best to explain the acronym the first time in the discussion, and generally avoid slang
whats the terminology of geek
We got so many channels for specific D&D topics - see #channel-guide
Geek should be fine as it’s commonly used
But we should get this channel back to helping folks new to D&D with help getting started with the core game mechanics and rules

is TPK bad
Total Party Kill usually means either the DM didn’t balance things well or the characters didn’t think of running away
what happens to players when their character permanently dies
It can become a new plot in the campaign to resurrect that character or the player may create a new character to join the party
Depends on the group and the story they’re trying to tell
is having time limits good
Goood morning afternoon evening!
like
BBEG gonna create a global threat in 2556 days, and if they dont stop the BBEG it summons a god that wipes everything out
most of the time, yes
discord is 13+
im gonna have prophets hint at this 😂
How the hell would a campaign last that long in game time
Yeah don’t share your age here
hi guys im back again !! how do u work proficiency
Also check out #find-a-game
idk my party just keeps prepping and building houses and doing lots of nothing
Hi back again, I’m Nugget!
And wdym? Like what you’re proficient in, or what it does?
so i time skip a lot
yeah! i understand the things ure proficient in but i dont know what everything else means
So you get a proficiency bonus that scales with your level (starts at +2) if you’re proficient in an attack, saving throw or ability check, you add your proficiency bonus to your roll
For example, a level character might be good at stealth and would have a +4 to stealth while another non-proficient one would have a +2, despite both having the same dexterity stat
level 1 i assume (or 2 or 3)
is level 4 still +2 pb?
Yes
im sorry but i dont follow
my initiative is +7 for some reason
i get the basics yes! anything thats more complicated not really
So, you know how you have a modifier you add or subtract when you roll a skill check?
basically, you roll these things called checks when the DM asks for it. You add a modifier (based on your stats) to it, and if you are proficient, you add a number called your proficiency bonus, a number that scales with your level
(Technically, ability check, but you get the point)
The modifier is dependent on your ability score, and if you’re proficient or not. If you’re proficient, your modifier is higher
proficiencies scale with level?!?!?! gah dam i have like 7 skills that i'm proficient in, 2 of which i have expertise on
how do u know your proficiency bonus?
thats crazy
OH right levels
in the rules, it says at which level you have what pb
DnD beyond should auto calculate it for your, but levels 1-4 is +2-
what about the racial bonuses?
not really, also are you a rogue🙃
are those also more or less the same ?
background in 2024, but they add to the stats, not the modifier
yes
Those are only 2014 rules
rogue i built like hes an artificer
ohh right im on the 2024
In 2024 it was moved to backgrounds
Also Senior, plz fill in for me for a bit I need to go for a sec
on it🫡
what are backgrounds? sorry for all the questions that seem dumb im a total beginner
Every character gets a background, which gives a few bonuses
It’s most often an rp tool, such as ‘soldier’ or ‘noble’
does that mean my
4 class proficiencies
2 background proficiencies
1 human proficiencies
are not allowed????
and i only barely grasped #learn-to-play due to the terminology
thank you!
they are, where do you get that it isnt allowed from?
oh its allowed thank goodness
there are a lot more backgrounds in the books than these examples, plus its possible to do a custom background with DM permission
i dont know, this guy said smth about racial bonuses and @hearty blaze sayd it was 2012 and not 2024
it used to be that on the older version of 5e (2014), your race gave you bonuses to certain stats
That looks good
idk what bonuses are, i just assumed skill proficiencies cause of context
like +2 to your dexterity stat
for example
bonuses to your stats
No such thing as a stupid question
ASI?
ability score increases yeah
ye
Yupadoo
there is nothing stupid in asking a question, you are only stupid if you don't ask a question (unless you're omniscient)
very good principle to live by
oh damn i killed the chat
you didnt ask more questions, so why would we answer
No one else asked anything either
Ask your DM
i made a shortbow that you can load with 1 arrow
im the dm....
Then yes
if you are new, i would advise avoiding it
or ask more experienced people if you have those
Because you decide how stuff works at your table
We can advise against it, but we canst stop you
what about crafting replicas
replicas of other items? yeah. Might cost a lot or be hard if magical, but definitely possible, especially if you are the DM
ok thanks👍
Are there text based dnd campaigns where a bunch of people instead of calling, they just create a group and text or smthng
yup! i run a few myself
I didn’t know that /s
Can I join one???
I wanted to play DnD so bad that I asked Chatgpt to start a campaign. But chat being chat, it just drifted away from the story...
#find-a-game, not here. (also my game just closed)
Sowhen are they gonna start again?
dont ask here, keep it to the right channels
hi i am new to dnd

ty
Yo
Yo
I have no clue how this works tbh
Tis a good start
Alright
hey!! im new to dnd :))! and im new to this server ^^ i recently got the stranger things: welcome to the hellfire club dnd set and im wondering what most of these do / mean?
#learn-to-play is kindof confusing since a lot of it i dont understand
the set includes :
quick-start guide (which i am reading but is so confusing LOL)
play guide (same thing)
4 adventure booklets
2 double-sided poster maps
4 handouts (?? again, idk what this is)
double-sided hellfire club poster & a hellfire club photo (which i assume is just merchandise for fans)
dm screen
combat tracker (??what)
91 cards for spells, magic items, and monsters
72 tokens for characters and monsters
15 character sheets (3 of one character since it’s premade)
11 game dice
i dont get what most of these are used for 😭
if anybody could help that would be awesome
Sublime might not be available rn, but I’m here
LMFAO hi!!
(Sublime is a member on the server lol)
ohhh what thats so fun
Handouts might be like a lil cheat sheet, tho i don’t have a set
owhh
i wish i could show u pics
DM’s?
i just need to know what the stuff does
sure
Combat tracker is for initiative, smt everyone rolls at the beginning of combat to determine the order everyone acts
The guides are to teach you how to play
The booklets give ya info on the adventures
Maps are for…maps
Cards are just for you and players to know what a thing does without having to constantly search it up
Token is to help determine where someone is on a battle map
Character sheets and dice are for gameplay
could you explain more on this?
So, at the beginning of combat (let’s do an example between us two), we all will roll initiative.
Roll a d20 for me, or gimme a number between 1 and 20
I got 14
i got 16
i got a 3. but my initiative bonus is a +1. so i got a 4 as my result. probably why i replied to this 20 minutes later.
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m new to Dungeons & Dragons and I’d really like to start as a Dungeon Master (DM).
For now, the only set I own is Stranger Things – Welcome to the Hellfire Club, and it’s in English.
Welcome! You might enjoy checking in with the folks in #dm-discussion for all things DM-ing
Thank you
Hey there! I started as a DM too. I used the Lost Mines of Phandelver starter set which proved to be a great choice. It's fairly complex but not overwhelming. It contains a cool adventure for levels 1-5.
How long did it take you to properly manage your games as a GM?
for me, (15 years ago), it was 2 weeks of planning beforehand and one month of 2 games a week (still kids) before i could manage the prep and game decently
Yoo. Some time ago in this chat I was asking some questions about getting into dnd and long story short I decided to buy the heroes of the borderlands starter set. Now I could have just ordered the set online but I wanted to check my local gamestore. Sadly they did not have the set I was looking for. However they have the Welcome to the hellfire club set. I did some research and it seems to be a good set for beginners (complete beginner here) but I wonder what you guys think of it
I have heard that the Heroes of the Borderlands set is a better set for beginners, but I haven't actually tried either myself.
I think they both work, but HotB is definitely better
In which way would you say it’s better if you don’t mind me asking?
easier to understand
also, it's made so you can switch DMs, so if the DM doesnt enjoy it someone else can easily step in
Okay. Thanks for the info. I’m gonna take a few days to think about it
how is initiative done when you have Alert Origin Feat (human)
what does Alert give
Have you read the alert feat and don't understand it, or do you literally just need to see the text of the feat?
Alright so, the alert feat has 2 parts, so lets take it step by step. Do you understand the "intiative proficiency" section? Thats the simpler of the 2
dex mod
Your dex mod is what you add to a normal intiative roll
do i add alert on top of the dex mod
Yes. When you roll for initiative, someone who does not have alert will roll 1d20+Dex
Someone who has alert will roll 1d20+Dex+PB
Do you know what your proficiency bonus is?
no
im figuring it out
maybe its +2 cause its showing up +5 on the "initiative" thing
+5 -3 = +2 (i have +3 DEX mod)
simpl mathz
Correct, your PB is +2. Are you familiar with what this mechanic is and you just needed to figure out the number, or is this a new term to you?
no but i just needed to figure the number
i just needed to clarify whether what's showing up there is the sum of everything
thanks you sir
Your proficiency bonus is based on what level your character is. Its starts at +2 for a level 1 character, and goes up at specific levels. If you look at the table for whichever class you are playing, it will show you what your PB should be at each level
(they put it on every class table, but it is the same for everyone)
Hello! I humbly request your assistance, I would like to know a one shot adventure with a decent amount of combat, but also teaches the basics of the game.
Hello alll , I am looking to get into dbd but don’t known where to start I would love any suggestions or someone to help me.
I haven't played it personally, but I've heard very good things about Intro to Stormwreck Ilse. Its free on D&D Beyond. I don't know how many sessions it takes to complete though, so it might be a little bit larger than a typical "one-shot"

Welcome! The bot post above has lots of helpful resources to get you started, including a link to the free version of the basic rules. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask them here. We are more than happy to help
Good Luck!
Many thanks 🙏
Is there anyone from North Yorkshire, England here?
Its against server rules to share any personal identifying information, such as the location where you live
Ok sorry I forgot
hm,
What are the existing classes? As in, where can I find and/or read up on them

The only exception is Artificer, which isn’t part of the core 12. That most recent publication of that class is part of the book Eberron: Forge of the Artificer
There's a link to the free version of the basic rules in the bot post above. The free Basic Rules contains 12 of the 13 total classes. The 13th is Artificer, which Star just explained

like me with my 4 friends watched a couple tutorials
made charactersheet , downloaded a free campaign pdf
now i was planning to play the dm for my friends but it looks a complicated (not a issue but we'll just play making up our rules) was thinking if anyone who played a dm is free to play some draft games with us to understand how things go
That's a tall order. You could post an ad in #looking-for-dm (follow the instructions in #find-a-game) and hope for the best!
Sup guys! How hard is it to get into dnd? I’ve been eyeing and thinking about starting a campaign for a while now but i have next to zero knowledge besides the never ending desire to fireball some demons
If you're willing to read and spend the time, you should be able to do it!

hey thinking about dming for a couple of friends can anyone give me some advice as it is my first time being a dm
Assuming you know the rules...
Grab a pre-written adventure (plenty are on DMsGuild), do some reading/watching (I'd recommend the Quickstart Guide, the DM section of the Basic Rules starting here, and this Ginny Di video), and dive in! If you want additional homework, I'd recommend plucking whatever seems useful from Matt Colville's "Running the Game" series. At least watch the first handful of his videos!
My suggestions are here: #dm-discussion message You can also search the server for "dm advice" and/or "dm tips". This topic comes up all the time!
thank you
can anyone recommend some prewritten adventures i can try
Do you know if you're playing 5e 2024 or 2014?
i think 2014
Great news. You have plenty of options, then!
My recs for 2014 beginner adventures:
thanks
I would actually add Joy of Extradimensional Space. however, that one is only available inside Candlekeep Mysteries.
Noted. These are all free and largely geared toward new groups and DMs. Not sure if JoES fits?
i've run JoES three times for newbies that didn't know what a d20 was. it has a satisfying start-middle-end. it is self contained. it can run in 3 hours. it has puzzle, exploration, role playing, combat. there is a clear goal as a group. there's enough leeway to adjust things as the adventure moves on. there isn't a large amount of worldbuilding or setting description required. it is level 1, so can be run with level 1 pre-generated characters, which reduces complexity for complete newbies. and i've run it to completion with 3 PCs and up to 9 PCs.
and each time it has played quite differently.
Hi
Good to know. Thanks!
-# Still isn't free, though. 😭
yes, not free at all. and can't be purchased on its own.
hello robot.

Shoot.
Is a ware beast meerkat rouge that digs wholes under enemies feet and stab them a good character
Well werebeasts are not a player character species by the rules
I meant char
When thinking of the concept, how would you achieve that mechanically?
Wdym?
It sounds like you might be trying to create a character without reading what the player options are. A were meerkat isn't a playable species (nor an existing thing, as far as I'm aware), and there are currently no player options that allow burrow speeds by default.
I thought there were different types of wearbeast
Not for players!
As others have said, there are no werebeast species, there is no meerkat species (or subspecies) and few mechanical ways to get a burrow speed. When thinking of playing such a character it's a good idea to think of what mechanical options allow you to fulfill that fantasy.
Past that, what makes a good character is often subjective. My personal criteria are:
- Are you having fun playing the character?
- Does your table have fun playing with the character?
is it meta gaming to ask/look up if youre fighting a monster you havent heard of as a new dnd player?
Yep.
There are a few different ones, but none of them are able to be used by players, and none of them are meerkats.
DnD isn't a free form roleplay game, you pick your species from a list of options. There's a good handful of them available in the free Basic Rules.
You shouldn't be looking up monsters as a player, regardless of your familiarity with them.
It's usually considered metagaming and poor etiquette, yes.
Ok
is it allowed to ask what type of monster it is? like if its a fiend or undead
Your DM might ask you to roll a skill check to determine if it is
So what I got is there are few wear beast. characters
You can ask, but I would expect to be told no. Or at least make some kind of check or expend a resource to find out.
if you dont have a feature that lets you figure that out, like divine sight or similar
You can ask the DM, but they might not tell you the answer. Some might, some might require specific skill checks, and some might outright say that you don't know.
There are werebeast monsters. They are not player options
There are no were beast characters.
Ah ok
The closest thing to were beasts is the Shifter species, but it's not one of the free options.
Wdymby that
What do I mean that it's not free? Several player options require you to purchase the book / content pack associated with it in order to play it.
Can I play as a genasi?
Genasi is one of the playable species yes
You could, but it's not one of the free species as mentioned before.
What is free?

Aasimar is also an official species, yes. As before, not free
If a species isn't on the list that I sent you, it's not free.
Could I be a bronze dragon born
Have you been reading the species section Dosh sent you? Dragonborn is the first listed species on that section.
I have not
As people have advised it's best to read through the resources we've provided first and then ask questions if you're unsure.
There are no amputation rules, nor any official way to play anyone with a disability rules as written. Any character can use a sword, though some options make you better at it than others. Again, feel free to look at the resources provided which explain what's possible at character creation.
hello everyone!
hey
welcome!
I was wondering just one question really before I try and get into DnD, do I need to spend any amount of money to get into online DnD? If so is it something like $5 or more/less?
No, you can play with just the basic rules and free stuff on dndbeyond. You don't need to pay to be part of a group either, those are just what we call paid games.
If you're a player, a lot of that will be shared to you on D&D Beyond if your Dungeon Master owns it, anyway.
I wouldn't necessarily set that expectation, since that requires the DM to have a master level subscription to DnD Beyond. It's certainly not the most common thing.
No, but it is something to consider if the concern is money.
Yo
hi

Got it, ty! I'm a little anxious on how it might go you know
I'd say maybe set up a low level premade one-shot, they're usually decent.
I salute you knights, dwarfs, wizards, witches, giants, and whatever creature I may find in these chambers.
/srs Hi! I'm Austin, I have no idea how to play D&D, I only bought myself a set of dices (The typical D20, D6, D10, D8, D4)
I wish to learn the magnificent art of playing this game

Hello!
Hallo people
Hi!
I have a server that's safe for minors
It's kinda just a hangout server + art
Just a word of warning posting your exact age is against this server's rules, although you say can an age range.
Also @woeful river this is supposed to be a family friendly server, so you shouldn't need to worry too much
Thx
Could you please delete my comment 😅
Already deleted
Oooooo yes pls could I have a link 😊
Thank you 😅
Do it in DM’s, server links aren’t allowed here
Yes sordy
I didn’t do it lol, I’m not a mod
Sorry
Just a heads up, didn’t wanna waste yalls time
I am very new 😭😭
Hello very new, I’m Nugget
Sent!
Are you a mod?
Nope
Boop
Thanks for the advice but I already know not to send server links in unrelated servers
I didn't need that information
That’s good to hear. Anyway, have a good day!
Hm?
welcome
Thank you lol
You have been welcomed
hello im new to dnd abt 0 games playd and 3 days reading thee play guide but i cant figure out the combat
Anything in particular you wonder about?
Combat's pretty simple
All creatures part of it roll initiative, and take turns from highest result to lowest
Then on your turn you can (As a default)
- Use 1 Action
- Use 1 Bonus Action
- Move up to your speed
- 1 Reaction, though usually used outside of your turn
So you'll just want to use what abilities you might have on your turn, most commonly make attacks or cast spells, then hope you'll live to your next turn to do the same!
Ok ty

Hey im an new dm and im nervous for my first campain i got some storyes from the starter set but still idk if i rush the story
Please don’t solicit or organize games outside the Looking For Game channels as it’s off topic
As a new DM read through the adventure module you’re running so you know the general beats of the adventure
@livid wolf i wast tryna plan anything i was asking for tips from ppl sorry
Also focus on fun - the goal of playing D&D (and games generally) is to have fun together
Set expectations and boundaries on player and character behavior.
Make sure to enforce it - that’s how you help everyone playing have fun, including yourself.
Communication is critical - if something is going off rails, it’s okay to pause the game and discuss how folks are feeling and realign expectations.
And it’s okay to make rulings in the moment to keep the game flowing. But try and be consistent in how you rule.
Also it’s okay to go back after the game and tell the group how things should have been ruled and how you’ll correct things going forward.
Also as a DM you can always say no - but do try be reasonable with that power.
What should i do if the group starts trolling?
Pause the game and reset expectations.
If they’re doing stuff that is purposefully derailing the adventure - and that’s not what you and others in the group want - talk it out.
And if folks don’t want meet the tables expectations, they don’t have to play with your group.
They can find a different group to play with
I lowkey only have 2 real friends
So i dont have much of an opinion with the group
But ty for all the advice

You can also check with folks in #dm-discussion for further feedback and suggestions
Howdy
Hi
I am pretty new to D&D and did my ADHD thing and threw myself into it lol I am in two campigns one weekly and one monthly (Work Friends), I am terrible at taking notes and knowing what to use and when. Any suggestions?? I am also dyslexic soooo yeeeaaaa
Whats the best place to find a campaign to join?
I did find a campaign to join through D&D Beyond, there is a forum that is based on what needs either DM, Player etc...
As a DM or player?
Player lol, forgot to specify
DnD beyond forums, reddit, roll20 or through this server’s #looking-for-players channel and typing /looking-for dm to make a form
I've subbed as a DM a few times
I'm very new to dnd, and have a question about my skill(s?) and how to calculate them. I'm a full Dragonborn druid with guard background and lawful good alignment (if that changes anything) this is only my second character sheet and I'm still very confused??
I don't believe I have the communication or skills to be a DM. I'd much rather be a player
I am both a long-time DM and Player. But I would like to try finding a new party to play with as a Player or a DM.
Having your spell cards in front of you is helpful if you’re a caster, else just lil flash cards detailing your most important or common actions
Like how many skills you have? Or how skill proficiencies actually work?
Do you know how ability skill checks work?
no?
You roll a d20, then you add your related ability score modifier. If you’re proficient in the skill, you also add a proficiency bonus.
OHHHH that is helpful!!! thank you I messed up I only did the modifier
I think I'm wrong because what I meant was the skills list on the character sheet like Acrobatics, Animal handling, and etc?
So if I was trying to roll for stealth as a level 1 rogue with 15 dexterity I’d:
roll a d20 (I got 9)
Then, I add 2 (15 dexterity is a +2 modifier)
Then, because this character is proficient in stealth, I also add another +2 (lvl 1 prof bonus)
So I’d get 13
Yes, those are the skills I’m talking about. You choose them from a list depending on your class, you get some from your background, and more if your species calls for it (I don’t think Dragonborn do)
Thank you!!!! I have been watching Critical Role and have been using Marisha style of notes, its been helping which sounds veryu similiar to the note cards
Does anyone play dnd beyond?
Yes
Do you play campaigns on there
And I only ask cuz I’ve been looking for campaigns to join but can’t find any
You've checked the LFG section of the forums? https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/looking-for-players-groups
same
Idk why but i want my first game to be with experienced players 'cuz i have no clue some things mean 😭
samee lowkey i feel like it woukd be easier to understand stuff
I'd probably roll a 1 and mess up a handshake (something similar happened to me in bg3)
Mostly because it'd be funny
lmao
trutru
If i was a dm i'd say the npc you tried to shake hands with slipped and fell off a cliff on accident, which makes the entire area hostile to you & puts you in a fight with every enemy (something similar happened to me in bg–)
a lot of unfortunate things happen to u in bg
I'm a big believer in following the standard rules and not making a 1 on skill checks do anything special
Failing tends to be bad enough without adding insult to injury
Im taking a long break from everything though because when making my own character on the website, the ENTIRE backstory of my character that i wrote for 3 hours got deleted, apparently i forgot to save 😭 cant even start lmao
Decided to test my luck on a random roll and rolled a 2 😔
omg no thats so annoying 😭
A good rule of thumb, Is to type it out on a word document beforehand - This goes for anything, when inputting information onto sites.
As a lot simply do not save or cache what you have typed, then time you out
Im on my phone so i'll probably type it out on the notes app
yes true i usually write my stuff out in a note book and then type it out
Thing is, i dont know if i should include my character's mother or not. She's significant, but if i include her in his backstory i'd have to give a short explanation on WHY she's important
I feel like it overcomplicates it
i mesn you may not have too if youre able to give a short explanation in a nutshell on why shes important to him then it shoukd be alrigjt
but then again theres nothing wrong with a lengthy story anyway
lol ur good
hey guys!! wondering what damage & type and properties do on weapons? how do i use them in the actual game 😣
i mean like
“2d6 + 3 slash”
When you successfully perform an attack, you roll damage die and add the total. In that case, roll 2d6 and add 3. Damage types have no inherit properties, but will come up in vulnerability and resistance for certain characters and monsters
weapons will generally do one of 3 types of damage, Slashing, Piercing, or Bludgeoning. The main purpose for this is to qualify for certain feat effects and to interact with enemy resistances
im so sorry but could you explain more?
As for reading dice the first number is how many dice, the second is the type of dice.
So 2d6 is two six-sided dice + 3 damage. So if you roll 3, 5 + 3= 11
i got the rolling part but what do you mean by add 3? to the number u got via the die?
Yep!
ohhh
could u explain more on how to roll a die and the dice rules basically? the technicalities are confusing 😣
Most of the time it will all be the same damage. Occasionally you might deal two types of damage with a weapon, like a flaming sword might deal 1d6 + (Attack bonuses) slashing and 3 Fire damage.
Which bits? For the most part you'll just be rolling the dice listed (like 1d8 or 2d6 so on) plus what ever it says to add.
Certain monsters will have resistance or immunity to specific types of damages, where they either take half or no damage, respectively, from said type. So for example:
- Your character wields a longsword, which deals Slashing damage!
- The enemy your facing has Resistance against Slashing damage.
- You roll to hit, and manage to land a hit, so now you roll damage. You roll 1d8+3 (your Strength score is 16 lets say). You roll a 4 on the dice, so 4 +3 is 7 damage!
- The enemy is resistant to slashing though, so you divide the damage by 2 (rounded down), so you only deal 3 damage!
Can someone tell what's gp?
Gold pieces!
there are a bunch of dice and im not sure when to use each one !!
You might also see SP (silver), CP (copper), PP (platinum) and rarely EP (Electrum, the funny one).
Can we also ignore the weight of things like armor and all of it
whats the difference between rolling to hit and rolling to do damage? is that different dice?
Each weapon has a specific damage die listed for it, you use that dice whenever you suceed in hitting an enemy and can deal damage
Typically you'll be rolling a d20
for most checks to see if you can succeed at something. Like attack rolls (if you hit or not), ability checks (like skills, such as rolling to see how well you hide), and ability saves (to see if you can resist something).
Damage dice tend to be smaller ones. d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 so on. First number is how many dice, second numer is how many sides. The weapon will tell you what dice it uses.
ahhh got it got it
Your DM can choose to ignore encumberance, yep! If not, you'll want to look into converting coins into better currency. Such as 100gp is 2lb, but 10pp is the same amount of money, but weighs 0.2lb
Get to experience the joys of managing inventory
(Many DMs ignore coin weight though, but best to check!)
Hi
Hey
Rolling to hit is always a 1d20. You add your Strength modifier to it (or your Dexterity modifier if you're wielding a Finesse weapon and have higher Dexterity), and you add proficiency if your character is proficient in the weapon. So for another example:
- You're facing an enemy in combat. You're a talented Lvl 1 (+2 proficiency bonus) Fighter with 16 Strength (+3 modifier) who is wielding a Longsword
- You want to hit your enemy, so you roll 1d20 + Strength + Proficiency. Your roll a 13 on the d20 dice, so your total number to hit is 13 + 3 + 2 = 18!
- You manage to beat the enemies AC (Armor Class), so you hit and can deal damage
- The longswords damage dice is a d8. Your roll 1d8 + 3 (your Strength). You roll a 7 on the dice, so you deal 7 + 3 = 10 total Slashing damage
do people host campaigns and stuff here?
check out #find-a-game
ohhh i see!! i understand this now except for number 3? whats the correlation
Not on the server itself, but games are advertised in our LFG channels
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
the +3 was from your Strength modifier in the example. In the example you have 16 Strength, and 16 gets you a +3 modifier to rolls that use your Strength
you always add your Strength Modifier (or Dexterity Modifier for Finesse weapons) to both the to-hit roll and the damage roll
oh no i mean the “You manage to beat the enemies AC, so you hit and deal damage” how do i know i beat it? is it based on what the DM says or is it due to the high number (18) i got
Every enemy has an AC, which represents how difficult it is to actually hit the enemy. I didnt specify the enemies AC just for simplicity sake, but normally to succeed in hitting an enemy, you have to meet or beat their AC number
The easy way to remember is 'meet or beat'.
ohhh got it
so in the case of the example, you roll a total of 18 to hit. If the enemy's AC <= 18, you successfully hit
You likely won't know the enemy AC, but the DM will and will say if you're successful.
ohh got it got it
yep, players only really learn the enemies AC during combat through attempting to hit it
thanks so much guys!!
No prob
I’m completely new and this is kind of a dumb question, but do warlocks have to have a healing element to them like clerics or no? Because I wanted my first character to be more damaged focused.
Warlocks usually don’t heal at all, and are damage based. So you’re set there!
Only a single warlock subclass has any healing potential
your good to go with damage, worry not
Also, clerics technically don’t HAVE to have healing, but if you’re not healing with them it’s kinda weird
Well I wasn’t really sure if they were fixed to heal or not I guess, I’ve just been getting into this stuff
Makes sense
Any reccomendations for my character? Like I said he’s a warlock but I wanted his patron to be like a deity that forces him into doing good and gods holy work to pay for his evil deeds, (kinda like Joshua Graham from fallout new Vegas if that helps)
Could be a god, could be a higher level celestial being if you want
Could be a particularily helpful archfey, up to you
An alternative might be a paladin.
Also, while Celestial warlocks do have healing capabilities, they are very much still focused on damage, so dont let it discourage you. The Celestial warlock only gets 1 explicit healing spell and 1 resurrection spell, the rest comes from their lvl 3 ability. Everything else is flavored damage or utility
The dndbeyond beyond has an adventure online to show how dnd works, with rolls and choices and all that
Is there anything like that more, just reading not a full fledged rpg, reading and choosing choices to play on the go ?
How can I join a campaign?
Player or DM?
If player:

hello everyone i just started dnd and made my first character, i was wondering if anyone could look at him to see if there was anything i could fix or anything that you would do differently.
I made him on dnd beyond
Then respond to #looking-for-dm posts and make a post on #looking-for-players . The rest is the same
Sure gimme a sec
Everything looks good! Though, because of how beyond does it, we can’t see the backstory. Could you copy and paste it here if it’s not too long?
Lol I'm i younger DM and I'm running two canpains in one world and accidentally made my whole session fighting a monster on session 2 lol
My players got so board
Hilarahn was apart of a dragonborn clan called Killimano in the northern mountains, this clan was not ordinary though, it was envied for its valuable items, artifacts, and other riches, and one night a great evil sought to make it his own. An evil necromancer and his army of undead soldiers and monsters attacked the Killimano clan. Hilarahn defended the clan with his kin but the undead army overwhelmed them and invaded the villages. The Killimano army tried its best but with the undead seeping into their homes they were going to die. Hilarahn woke up to the smell of smoke and the bright light of fire, he searched the mountains where his clan lived but he didnt find anyone alive, he saw his friends, family, mentors all killed by the necromancer… He then realized that he was the only survivor and he made an oath of revenge so powerful that the deity Hoar heard it and gave him the power to seek revenge on the necromancer.
Dam thats a nice backstory
As long as you try to learn as much from the mistakes as you can, you're well on your way to become a great DM.
I made lots of them over the years, and I always ask myself "did my players have fun?", and then adjust.
Thanks
I really feel confident now and might think of introducing something that ties into my players background
Looks fine. Just run the clan through the DM for worldbuilding
okay thanks for the feedback!
Really liked the character 👌
It seems like you put thought into it and thats what truly makes a character good
how does Rouge's "Sneak Attack" Work ?!
what are the conditions that need to be met for the rouge to use "Sneak Attack" ?!
Either
- have advantage
- have an ally next to the enemy you want to hit
If either of those are the case, you can apply sneak attack damage.
Assuming you hit with the attack, anyway.
You also can’t do it if you have disadvantage
so: one ally is near the enemy rouge wants to attack:
You roll for Damage -> Dagger DMG -> Short Sword DMG -> Sneak Attack DMG ?!
NUKED ?!
Let's do one weapon at a time. And no, not nuked, but certainly good damaga.
each weapon applies Sneak attack ?
Lets say you hit with your dagger, then you could do:
dagger dmg + ability score + sneak attack damage
You can only apply sneak attack damage once per turn.
Beacuse of Two-Weapon Fighting he does NOT get to do "Sneak Attack" Twice? Right?
correct
No, as it only procs once a turn as mentioned
Sorry again for my Confusion and silly questions:
- my Rouge has a "Dagger" and a "Shortsword".
- Has Weapon Mastery with both of them (Nick & Vex)
- Also has the Bonus Actions of Two-Weapon Fighting
so he moves to attack:
Attacks with Shortsword -> but because he has Two-Weapon Fighting he also attacks with his Dagger. -> but because the dagger now has "Nick" it counts as the normal attack action -> then he goes to attack **again **with his Dagger 'cause he didn't use his bonus action of "Two-Weapon Fighting"
Correct?!
or am i just dumb ?
not quite.
you can attack as a bonus action as part of the light property. Nick essentially takes that bonus action attack and moves it into the attack action. But you dont get to double dip on that same attack
if you want to use both nick, and attack as a bonus action, you would need the dual wielder feat, as that provides a different bonus action attack
hi
Hello! How can I help you today?
hi! i've dm-ed wayyyyy to much but in a week i'll have my second ever capaign where i don't dm and actually play :D! i would really apriciate it if someone can help me with a level 3 character ( my other party members are a druid, 2 rouges, and a ranger )

i have a quick question there is one friend of mine and myself totally beginners can we play d and d together only two of us?
yes you can, although it may not be as good compare to playing with a larger group
One player, one DM games are possible
You can, but the game is designed for a larger group.
The term you're looking for is duet play. There's a whole website dedicated to it (https://dndduet.com/), and this Ginny Di video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WH0yEY5uo8) covers some of the ups and downs of the format.
is there something free and online?
?tag new online
Yep. The above gives you the info for playing online, and you can find some pay-what-you-want duet adventures here: https://www.dmsguild.com/en/browse?author="Beth Ball"
I’m new and would love to learn how to play dnd. In a previous server I was in we started a campaign but we didn’t get past the character sheets.

welcome! The bot post above has lots of helpful information that can get you started, including a link to the free version of the basic rules. If you have any specific questions, please let us know. We are more than happy to help
Thank you. I will definitely look over it.
The two of you could also join other players online. You could even have a connection to each other if you like as part of your backstory.
Hi ive never played before but i want to. is there some party i could join thats willing to be patient and help me out

Ahhh that Lfg thing is so overstimulating
hello
Welcome
thanks where do i look for people to paly dnd with as a player?
Check out #find-a-game. It includes instructions for how to either advertise yourself as a player, look for other d&d communities that run games, or find DMs that run free or paid games
How do I find a DM, that would be interested to be a DM for me and my friends (we didnt play any DnD before, but we always wanted to try) in possibly custom worldbuilding?

If you feel like you've got a good understanding of the Basic Rules, the next step is finding a group. You can follow the link in the bot post above to learn how to get your search started on this server.
That being said, I'd be prepared to temper your expectations. I think it's going to be much harder finding a DM who will run a custom game based on your design, rather than their own design.
Okay, I could try to co-create a worldbuilding with the DM, I wouldnt mind that, and thanks
whats the best way to find more people for my campaign in my area?
Also are there any good websites when you play online? I play in person but is there like a website that lets u have icons and make ur own map?
If there are any local board game stores they’d probably have places to post games 🫡 alongside that check if there’d be any good TTRPG groups for your area.
In some areas, local libraries may have options too
I would
Nice, could I ask you for your timezone?
Roll20 is the popular one afaik, though there are also other options out there like FoundryVTT
I can't wait to play DND for the first time : )
I think I just want to play as a fighter (maybe with some multi class shenanigans), because I played it in neverwinter nights and baldurs gate 3 and I had the most fun playing it
I’m new and can’t wait to play dnd, I have NEVER PLAYED

Till the end of Character Creation
Good Day,
G’day
Is it hard to start in Dnd if I never done this before 🙂
Not too hard, we all start somewhere
Follow these instructions
What about "Noob Friendly" - Are groups generally welcome new to this environment people or it just tepends on people?
Some groups are, that’s all I can say
Others prefer more experienced players
Do you have to do VC in a DND group or can you just use typing on discord
Both work, but Text based campaigns, Play By Post, is a viable method to play! I actually am planning to DM a text based campaign in the future.
But most games are through calls
👍
can either PBP, Or depending on your DM, you can just be in the voice chat muted and then just communicate through text
guys
i have a friend who watched stranger things and now wants ME to teach him to play D&D
Good luck!

Heya 😄 , quick question , when i play a Barbarian , i can wear medium armor ... during the character creation should i try to get as much dex as possible ? or is there an actual limit that would benefit me for more AC ? or should rather invest those points somewhere else ?
okay asap for question after i read that (sorry if my english is not good)
Only a +2 for medium armor, so 14 Dex is the most that can buff medium armor. Anything higher doesn’t boost it
Im currently at 16 😄 , so i guess thats 2 points wasted that i could spend somewhere else , im joining my brothers campaign , and we are lvl 7 there ...
My current stats are Strength 19 , Dex 16 , Con 15 , int 8 , wisdom 8 and charisma 8
i could use those 2 points to get 20 strength and 16 con right :3 ?
No
That’s not how this works unfortunately,
Umm… how’d you do your stats originally? By what method?
Let meh check , one second
hey uhh do I I am a warlock paladin multi class, I have a spear and a shield, what things can I get other than weapons
15 strength , 15 dex , 15 con , 8 int ,8 wisdom and 8 charisma
point buy
how'd you get 19 strength then?
