Teach me in the DnD ways 🙌🏼
Ofc! What do yall need help with?
Hi nugget!
HALLO
WAZZUP
GREETINGS
Nugget dnd player service helpline, how may I help you today?
Uhhh weird question but how does crit work?
If you roll a nat 20, you do double damage
Depends on the dm really usually when you land a crit you’d double the dice for example if the damage was 2d8 you’d make that 4d8
Depends on the table
This is what I do
So when l roll the maximum of a dice it counts as a crit?
Most often it’s just you’d double blank
Does the DM decide when dice are used? For example, does climbing up an average height ladder need a dice roll just as jumping across a broken bridge would?
And is dice required for every campaign
When you roll a 20 on the d20
If you get a 20 on a d20
If you roll a natural 20 on a “to hit” attack
The dm does decide everything, technically, but yes.
Yes
No that would be stupidly overpowered lol
It’d also be very try funny to get a double crit
You guys recommend paying for DMs, if it’s your first time playing? To get a solid first experience and learn
Would there ever be a scenario where I would need a dice roll just to make small actions such as climbing a ladder? Seems a bit counter intuitive
Like, I’m a dm and I started dm’ing, so I can’t help you there.
No not really climbing a ladder would just use climbing speed
A good dm isn’t gonna make you roll for climbing a ladder
Because that’s just climbing speed
If you have money to spare and you find someone who has good reviews offering a game you sound interested in, I say go for it.
Climbing speed? Is that like how baldurs gate speed is where you only can move a certain amount before it gives up your turn?
If it was a very wobbly ladder or if you had to do it while impaired somehow, then maybe roll.
It’s half your movement speed
If u don’t tho there is still super great options otherwise id suggest looking on facebook for GameStores and sometimes library’s near you that host games
Unless you have a feature that states otherwise
Didn’t honestly think about checking locally, thanks!
Ofc!
A local library or table top game store is a good place to start
If u got any friends that play you could always ask if they’re open to another player
Thank you
I’m going to assume that Baldurs gate isn’t an exact replica of how DnD should play, moreso give insight and the very basics?
Yes
They are slightly different I believe, though I haven’t played Baldurs gate so take it with a grain of salt
They changed quite a bit for it to function better as a video games as opposed to a tabletop game.
I trust you know what ur talking about over my view on dnd😅
Technically, any action/ act of chance requires a die roll. The smaller ones can be overlooked. DM’s discretion.
It’s so satisfying seeing dice roll. I think that’s my favorite aspect of the game lol. I’m a huge dice nerd
Makes sense. Also I guess if I’m climbing a ladder in the midst of an injury versus healthy state, it would play out much differently
It releases dopamine into your system. No joke. Ttrpg is a happy drug 🤣
The gambling high…
Another weird question are old rules unbalanced or do they create characters too op for the good of campaign?
Do you mean rules from other non-5e editions of D&D?
I only saw one guy using them and that dealt like 120 damage in a turn in a oneshot
I’m only familiar with 5 and 5.5e
We were like level 9
Yeah before 24
Rules from other versions of the game aren't compatible with each other, so I wouldn't expect the game to work properly.
Oh so that's it
There are some exceptions—apparently 3e and 3.5 can work together, and 5e 2014 will work with 2024. Generally, though, it's probably easiest to think of them as entirely different games.
Hello. Hope everyone is doing well
Doing well. If you have any questions let us know
Not at all, bg3 is baised on the ruleset yes, but fundamentally different to play as a game. And doesn’t represent the ttrpg experience.
Bg3 you are the main character
D&D no such thing as a main character but rather the group as a whole is the main spotlight and such
Hallo, everybody! I'm Conner. I want to jump into a game, but I have no idea where to start. Hope everyone is doing fine btw.
#find-a-game is a great place to start!
Also I’m doing well, u?
ありがとう!Thank you! I'm doing fine, and excited to get started.
Never thought I’d see hiragana in this server
whats hiragana?
Japanese writing script
There’s hiragana (the one above), katakana (used for many foreign borrowed words) and kanji (derived from ancient Chinese)
ah okay. i seen hiragana.
hey guys new to dnd and wanted
to dm a canpaign with some friends, and was just looking for a simple, maybe even one session, story-all ideas and tips are greatly appreciated
I should mention I don’t have the books needed yet so I just want a simple introduction to the game
Just ping me with suggestions

so like a one shot? a mini story completed in a single session
Yeah that’s what I was thinking of
ah! thats aways fun
Sorry i literally thought of this 20mins ago and just decided to ask
what level would you want your players?
So that’s what I’m not quite sure of this would be our first campaign so there’s the advice I’m looking for
Makes sense, they are a good way way for people to get used to being a dungeon master and get used to juggling so much in combat
hmmm well you dont want to overwhelm them id reccomend level
3
or maybe 5
cause you get class and sublcass stuff but your not overhwelmed with soooo many features
Ok and this would allow for freedom but still making sure they aren’t overlevelled for basic enemies right
I feel like 6 is a good level. It let's them access subclasses from at least 2 of the classes and doesn't overwhelm them with options
well the enemys kinda scale with level they have a challenge rating equal to the strength of the party
do new players even really wanna get into multiclassing tho?
6 is a good level tho
Like this will be our first ever time picking up dice
do you use a software? or is this all paper btw
So a level 6 one shot seems to be the best
So we’re going to be having physical meetings but using software to track our stuff incase we find not to like the game
ah
board?
Sorry just like smth for minis
oh like a map?
We don’t have anything as like a map
i see
Yea mb don’t know terms yet
unless your printing it out your map options might be limited
So we were just kind of thinking of a mentalish campaign where we don’t have any in depth borders down
Just kinda notes on a google doc
oh theatre of the mind kinda?
Yeah
hmmm alright youll still maybe want atleast a peice of paper or two just to kinda visualize where stuff is
and a pen
but that goes without saying
Ok
Could use a reference map
Typically for a one shot you can do a dungeon run where the adventures are monster hunters or at the dungeon for one reason or another like magic weapons, gold, new spells.
Okay that seems like smth they would be into
So a good starting campaign would be level 6 dungeon runners with a basic map right
yup that sounds awesome!
And should I give them recommendations on their classes so it’s not to complex
also its very cliche but start them off in a tavern its the easiest and simplest way to get them to meet eachother and start the quest
Bc they all wanted to play Dragonborn sorcerers first time we tried to start one
uhhhh i mean dont force them into specific classes but i would warn them some classes are harder then others
maybe stear clear of druid warlock and artificier
Are they different types of dragonborns or sorcerers?
They all just wanted to be Dragonborn sorcerers and that’s all they said
So any suggestions for them would be greatly appreciated
uuuhhhhmmm ok just make sure their not just like all the same person lol
Okay
Ranger, rogue, barbarian, Paladin, and monk are fairly simple
and bards
id probably replace monk with fighter
the simplist of them all
why
u js hit stuff alot and do an acrionj surge to hit stuff more
and u have a heal if things get dicey
monk u gotta keep track of ki points
Can we send photos in this
and unarmored defense and some of the other stuff is confusing
i think?
oh no nvm
if u have photos js send in dms
Just make a group with us so we can help.
Okay can you check the notes if I copy paste them in here
level 6
Physical map but not of everything
Dungeon runners, monsters, treasure, or new spells
Started in a tavern( maybe attacked and track down the villain )
TRY NOT TO BE DRUID WARLOCK AND ARTIFICER
Ranger, rogue, barbarian, Paladin, fighter, and monk preferable
Yeah.
sounds pretty good
Okay thank you both
btw dont try and predict everything theyre gonna do and prepare for it they will aways surprise you
No problem, by the way best piece of advice I got as a dm is you can only be as good as they allow you to be. If things get slow or dull make the players engage with something random or have them make a random perception check and say nothing no matter how high they roll
Ooh devious
It makes them anxious as hell. Just watch as the chaos unfolds from a sheet blowing in the wind making it look like someone is watching them
Or just start rolling a bunch of dice behind the dm screen (optional)
Its brand new players they might not understand what that means yet
Even better
Lol
how i do i play dnd on discord

anyone wanna play?:]
Anyone willing to teach a newbie? Ive got a group that wants to play but none of us ever have and they want me to be the DM... I dont know how to play....
You should check out

There are many people here who are willing to help, me included!
I’m gonna direct you to #find-a-game
Thanks👍
Np
i really need help can anyone jump in a quick call
I can’t call but what do u need help with?
feats on roll20, what does it mean?
feats are basically perks your character can get
Oh feats? Basically every 4 or so level ups you can choose between and ability score improvement or a feat ability score improvement takes 1 one your skills ( strength dex con int wis cha) and increases it by 2 feats however give you special little perks a popular one being war caster which lets you use your reaction to cast a spell meaning like if an enemy runs past your or your teammate gets hurt you can do something without using an action
i also need help with whether or not my character sheet looks good? im almost done! would you be able to review it?
Ofc!
thank you that's what i thought
i would too
@dark escarp just ping me when you send it
i dmed u ^^
how do i make my roll 20 character sheet public?
How many spells am i allowed to use as a bard
Depends on your level
I'm level 1 so
Give me 15 seconds
You know two cantrips, and four 1st level spells that’s you can cast twice per long rest
Thanks
Hi, I'm new here
hi
Hi new here, I’m Nugget.
How may I be of help to you on this fine morning/afternoon/evening?
I actually have a character in mind. I have her race, class, and lore down, even her appearance, but I don't know if theres any channels related to character sheets. I assume we gotta make our own sheet? Or is there a template?
#character-discussion is where you’re gonna want to go
Also use dnd-beyond
Ty
I was gonna say, I didn't see tabaxi on dnd beyond
They’re in Volos guide to monsters
All their stats, etc
I could take a picture of the page if you need
On dnd beyond you only get the basic free rules unless you purchase the books
Please 🙏
I’ll dm that to you
Yo guys
Is it possible to make a tankish cleric that uses melee weapons?
In my campaign we have 3 warlocks, a fighter and me a cleric and because of that we kinda struggle with not having enough tanky characters. I already took protector and shield of fate to be able to become a more tanky closeranged fighter and picked up a greataxe. I'd like to know if there are any other spells or other methods that could help me be a tank
I'm level 2
War Cleric
It was literally made for that archetype (tanks melee cleric)
Oki, I'll read it's abilities
Conversely, and more cool, is the Forge Cleric
But that’s 2014
(Personally I find Forge Cleroc cooler and tbh better)
Oki, I'll look into that. Cuz tbh war clerics don't seem to have too many cool abilities
Hopefully there's a port
Agreed, they’re a little plain
If your dm allows 2014 subclasses you should be fine
We're playing on 2024 rules but they said they'll see what they can do
Sounds like a W
Yup, my third favourite cleric Domain
Cuz on my first game i died, but my fighter with 4/2 more ac survived for like 3 rounds while getting attacked by half the enemies
What are 1st and 2nd?
- Peace
- Life
What's peace domains specialty
Buffing allies to oblivion
At lvl 1, it can let allies add 2d4 to any attack roll or ability check once a turn
(Lvl 1 feature + Bless)
Op
Also, it lets allies take damage in the place of another, eventually with resistance
Btw is it good to cast concentration spells before battle to not waste an action?
Yes
That's actually really good
Ik
And it’s not even the most broken cleric
We're about to head into a goblin cave and i want to cast bless on my 3 warlocks on a shield of fate on myself to tank better
Dam
It's frequently a good idea, yeah. But consider that a lot of concentration spells only last a minute. That translates to 10 turns. Sure, most battles aren't going to last 10 turns, but it's still good to keep that in mind.
How, you can only concentrate on one spell at a time.
Ik, i want to cast one of these, I'm not sure which though
Oki
Ah. Probably bless.
Alrighty
Hello everyone. Im extremely new to all of this. Dont really know what to say. Just that im new, i want to play dnd, i have a character idea, and well... i dont know where or how to start.

Fighter
Master all weapons and armor
Fighters rule many battlefields. Questing knights, royal champions, elite soldiers, and hardened mercenaries—as Fighters, they all share an unparalleled prowess with weapons and armor. And they are well acquainted with death, both meting it out and defying it.

How does the damage and die work? Cuz i played the game once with friends and none of us knew what we were doing. So the die kept confusing us.
#learn-to-play is a great place to start
For attacks that are based around AC (Armour Class), you roll a d20 (twenty sided dice) to determine if it hits. If the number after modifiers (which is based around your level and stats) is equal to or higher than the AC then it hits.
Then, you roll a damage dice that is dependent on the weapon or spell you are using (e.g a dagger is a d4, a scimitar is a d6 and a great axe is a d12). You then add your modifier (just dependent on your stats this time) and you deal that much damage.
Nice catch
For attacks based around a saving throw, you perform the attack (usually a spell) and the enemy is forced to take a saving throw. The DC (difficulty class) is the lowest number that the opponent must roll to pass the saving throw, and is dependent on your stats and level. If the opponent passes, they are exempt from the full impact of the roll, either taking partial damage or undergoing no change. If they fail, they take the full effect of the attack.
Hey, Ive played once about 15 years ago but have been wanting to try again. Hoping to find people to play with that wont mind some handholding
Imma direct you to #find-a-game
i was looking at that but i actually so completely clueless that i dont even understand what some of the terms mean haha. Like, the game version or what the game is for example.
Oh lol
Then I’d recommend #learn-to-play
To get a grasp of the rules
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the amount of reading, I recommend just learning how to make a character, basic ability checks, modifiers, core gameplay, classes and combat.
And of course, if you have any specific questions, please ask away! This channel is meant for it, and there are plenty of great people who should be willing to help you.
while i dont mind reading, im very much a hands on learner. I can read and take things in ok but generally getting reps in helps a lot. Like when i learned to play MTG like 20 years ago it was via a video game that kind of held your hand a bit and walked you thru the steps and phases as you played and slowly took the training wheels off. Do you think maybe a paid DM would be best for that sort of thing? I understand that its probably not a DMs dream to go wrangle some noob and teach him what a D20 is so it probably could be hard to just blindly be accepted into a game knowing essentially nothing
If you have the disposable income to pay for a paid game, sure why not
But the people here can help you too
It’s ultimately your decision
You can also play in a not paid game.
For example, I’m a dm (though fairly inexperienced) that can help you, but between my personal life and my own campaign I simply don’t have the time.
Also, there are still many DMs in the community, often new too, who can be willing to help. For free.
Is it expensive? I guess i didnt consider that it would be but with even a little thought yeah it is a lot of time and work so its probably not cheap lol
I guess it depends on the campaign. Never had to pay for one before so I wouldn’t knows
Though, I’d recommend a local library or table top game store
Those are good places to find an irl game, and the people there (particularly the latter) should be passionate enough to be willing to assist you
i wish i had the time. Thats why im exploring the online route because i'm a married father of 3 and rarely am able to just wander off for hours haha
That’s fair
i guess i have the time, i just dont have the luxury of not being home
Does anyone in your family play dnd?
no
Worth a try
im the sole nerd in my family haha
A nerd is a compliment
my dad might have been into it when he was younger but that was probably 50 years ago
Is there any particular thing you struggle with?
it wasnt meant disparagingly
calculus
im not sure how to answer
im going thru the character builder rn
Roleplay, combat, rules, table manners, starting equipment, all of the above
oh, probably just that i dont know the game structure and rules
like it this were MTG i wouldnt know the phases and how to set up a board or make a deck for example
Fair
i am. im currently on D&D beyond doing the walkthru on character creation
Alright, and how’s it going so far?
fine. i spent several minutes deciding on a name for a character even tho its just a throw away to try out the process lol
you know, the usual
Have you decided your class?
That’s the main part in terms of gameplay, apart from maybe a backstory
not yet. in games im typically a pal holy fighty type but i think id like to play something neutral so im not sure yet
yeah i think probably cleric because i think they are more flexible morally yeah?
By definition, yes, because paladins are forced to follow an oath
But any character in dnd can be any moral alignment
the only time i ever played before i played bard but the game was a bit of a shootshow that ended with the DM throwing a tantrum so idk how that experience really lines up with normal play and it was a long time ago
Yeah that’s not a very good reference
i like the sound of ranger and druid
what defines a martial weapon
Big list of them in the equipment section. They don't have a unifying characteristic but are generally regarded as more effective than simple weapons, hence the need for martial proficiency.
can you give an example of simple vs martial? isw that like a kichen knife vs a dagger
btw @lyric leaf ping me if you need help btw, aproxximately for the next hour
excuse me while i watch a 30 minute lore video about druids so i can write a back story for my practice character sheet lol
thanks
Simple weapon being a club, a martial weapon being a warhammer
Aight have fun
The starting gear package for a class will always include weapons you have proficiency in.
Hi all
haha, im sure i will. i often take character creation maybe too seriously and like to have a lot of fun and spend time on it. usually its something ill be playing for a while so why not
Hello, how can we help you.
And how are you?
Don’t worry I’m the type to take hours on a backstory, I feel you
Im good for now thank you!
It’s my favourite part of dnd
No problemo! Have a good morning afternoon evening!
the RP and character creation is what made me interested in it
Makes sense
you do too!!!
Btw imma be busy for the next 15 minutes so don’t get offended if I don’t reply
haha, youre good man, ty
any more questions?
mostly druid culture questions at the moment lol
like, are druids something you become, are called to be, born as, etc
circle of the shepard specifically
Hey
Setting dependent
hey
depends on the setting
Druids like all classes are roughly equivalent to professions. Above the table classes are just the mechanical feature sets you get. Whether you were born in a Druidic Circle, joined later, or got your special connection to nature via some other method is up to you and the setting you play in
is there like a "basic" or "standard" setting?
5e usually defaults to the Forgotten Realms
the forgotten realms yeah
how do they work in that setting?
still depends on the druid
some are born, some are raised, and some chose it later in their life
Mechanically the same as they do in any other setting. Narratively it’s also up to you.
im trying to understand so i can write a backstory that makes sense but its sounding kind of like there arent many "norms" that would restrict it
Hello
you have lots of freedom while writing a backstory, yes
Yes
hi, account that was created specifically for this server
like, "i spoke to a rock in a dream and wandered off into the woods and thru the years of independant study and training am now druid guy"
that can be a druids story, yeah
Totally fine (pending DM approval)
that just works? nothing about that wouldnt make sense? not that its what im doing but as a an example
if the DM approves that makes sense
Yeah. You might want to have some idea of what that rock is or work with your DM to determine that, but otherwise that’s a plausible enough way to get your Druidic powers
Hey does anyone have any recommendations on ways to find a new in person dnd group. I moved so I want to find another one.
If anyone’s got any advice I’d appreciate it lol
Definitely check out the instructions in #find-a-game to use this server to find a group!

At the age of 11, while having a good home and community around him, Anny (a local nickname) still always had a hole in his heart. His mother had disappeared when he was 7 on one of her usually quiet walks in the forest near his small village. The last thing she ever said to him, "the treesong calls and those who hear must answer. Care for all that cares for us Anny." has long left him cunfused but strangely hopeful. He misses his mother deeply but still doesnt feel as if she is dead, gone or in danger. A feeling he has never told his quiet and practical father, a hard working shepard and farmer.
Turning 12 was when a boy transitioned to being a man in his village and on his 12th birthday his father gave him something of his mother's with a message he promised to deliver from her, he said, "I never understood any of it, i just knew that i loved your mother from the day I found a confused stranger lost in those woods and i looked into her dark green eyes. She made me promise to give this to you when you came of age the day she left us and to tell you 'Anny, your home is not the 4 walls around your bed but expands all 4 cardinal directions beyond the horizon. When you are ready, come home Anny. Listen for the notes in the rustle of the trees.' You will always be my boy but one day you will hear it as she did, and you too must go when you do." Handing Anny a small brown pouch with a single but large seed that seemed to almost glow fainly in direct sunlight inside.
Anny planted and cared for the seed in the field near the forest edge and it grew at such a rate that in 4 short years it was a full sized and sprawing tree, full of dense emerald leaves.
One late afternoon Anny (16) was laying under the tree, eyes closed when he heard a faint sound.. music? No, not quite music, singing far away and faint. A chorus of many but among them he could swear his mother's voice among them. Anny stood up to listen and almost lost track of the sound until he looked back up into the tree. He caught hold of it again firmly now and as he listened it moved along the branches and into the forest beyond, and so he followed, almost entranced.
For almost 2 weeks he followed, eating what he found, drinking from the river, falling asleep and awakening to the soft song. Until he came upon a wild boar, wounded and in pain. He was so hungry from eating so little he found but decided to care for the boar. As he approached and tried to calm the thing, snorting and thrashing about, he hummed the sing he had heard non stop for days and days now without thinking about it. The boar quickyl calmed and locked eyes with him, allowing him to approach and comfort it. He gave it water and brought it food for days, until it was strong enough to be on its way. And as he began to walk away from it with a goodbye, after turning his back a low frail voice called to him. As he spun around in surprise he found a kneeling old man patting the boar on the head. "My time is almost gone boy, and your kindness for our friend here has shown me I have found the one to take my place, if you accept, id like to teach you the ways of our world and set you on the path your mother hoped for you.
Shocked but intrigued how this man could know of your mother, Anny accepts and joins the circle of the shepard
how is this for a backstory?
@hearty blaze
Aight gimme a sec
i think id like to flesh out more but i was getting tired of typing haha
That’s pretty dang good
If yer talking about characters, the #character-discussion is the place To do so. That way this channel stays easy for new folks to ask their questions and get answers
on first sight this looks cool
I was about to say this, sorry for not clarifying earlier
oh sorry
#character-discussion is the right channel for, well, discussing characters
Copy your story over
Hello team, I have a problem: I received a cursed weapon, but I don't really know how to play it. It's the berserker ax, so it's powerful, but the problem is that I don't know if my character is supposed to know it's cursed or if I'm supposed to learn that later in the game.
Ask your DM! But if it hasn’t been revealed to be cursed within the game itself, then your character probably doesn’t know.
oh ok
Because the weapon is strong, but I really don't like its disadvantage. And since I can't get rid of it just like that, I don't know if it's my mates who have to take care of it or if it's something else like that.
Communication is the way. “Hey, DM, will I learn that my weapon is cursed? Will I be able to do something about it because the downsides are really impacting the fun of the game for me.” Or whatever wording captures your feeling.
ok thx
a bit of a silly question, but if I gain proficiency in something from both my class and my race, am I then double proficient in that thing? im assuming thats not the case but thought id just ask
Nope, you either have proficiency or you don’t
What’s known as “Expertise” in a proficiency exists, where you get to add your Proficiency Bonus twice, but that’s only given by specific class features.
In 2014 rules the duplicate becomes a free pick: any skill you like. I don't believe 2024 has the same so just pick something else from your options.
@vapid lantern this might help:
Check the listings in #looking-for-players for games that want people, read the details, respond as appropriate and cross your fingers.
Type /looking and select the option for #looking-for-dm to advertise yourself as a new player in search of a group. Be sure to include your regular availability!
There are other Discord servers where people gather for games. You can find them in #looking-for-community .
Aside from here, you could also try LFG on Reddit, Roll20 or the D&D Beyond forums to get started.
does that work for equipment or just the skills? my specific case I have "double proficiency" in shortswords and longswords (as a high elf bard)
Weapon proficiencies aren't addressed in that way in 2014 best as I recall. There's no benefit to having them from two sources.
Though now I investigate, this section only refers to skill and tool proficiencies: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014/personality-and-background#Proficiencies
It might be worth an ask of your DM if you have an idea in mind regarding weapons there.
Hi! Im super new to dbd with my only experience with baldurs gate 3, Is there any way to start and join a session online or does it have to be in person.
There are rules in Tasha's to allow you to swap a species proficiency with something else. But you'd still have to ask the DM
Folks do recruit for online sessions on the server. Read through #find-a-game for the relevant info!
im a bit confused about the terminology used for spellcasting, ive been trying to wrap my head around it for a while, but I think I kind of understand it a bit now. so "spell slots" are basically sort of like a "mana" resource? and stronger spells use more "mana" (higher level spell slots)? am i right in saying that?
Well, its not like mana in the traditional sense at all, but you are kind of right
yeah, so its not like a mana "pool", more like mana "chunks" of various sizes i suppose
yes, exactly
I’m new how do the dice work
You have 6 different dice, d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, with d standing for dice and the number for the amount of sides.
The d20 is rolled for attacks, trying to do a task, etc.
All the other dice are rolled for damage, buffs, healing, etc
Alfiz got the gist, here is more info on the dice:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/playing-the-game#Dice
How does the d4 work
It's a four-sided dice. Google it, it looks quite funny.
you roll it
I know but how does the number work
the d20 is used as the "does something succeed" die
The rest are used when needed and specified by your weapon, spell, or basically any feature
For example if you attack with a dagger and hit, the dagger says it deals 1d4 damage, in which case you would roll the d4, and the result determines your damage
?
Depending on the notation on the dice, either read the number around the bottom border or the number along the triangle pointing up. Both versions exist.
Basically the upright number
I'm parcially done with my charakter sheet, what should i do after that
- Backstory
- Find a group
The backstory counts for the charakter sheet right
Do you want me to go over your character sheet? To make sure it’s correct
Sure but it's not 100% done. Also is it ok that i made it on dnd beyond and copied it into a pdf file
You play. Some GMs will make you create a new character though
Sure but it's not 100% done.
if you don't mind could you go over mine please? i sent a link to a screenshot in #character-discussion
im done all the stats stuff, just need to flesh out some story in my own time
Im back and holy did i miss alot.
I have a question. Is there(on this server) like groups who arrange times and dates to play? If so, is there one friendly enough for a newcomer like me to join?

What are the best skills in the game like op skills
Hii
Welcome to the server!
If you really want to Min-Max, check out #optimization . Though I will say DnD is not a game about making the most optimized characters. Part of the fun is having weaknesses.
how do i make a lfg post? it won't let me type
dnd is not normally a game where you try to be the best player
There are no op skills. Also, "skill" is a very specific term and may not mean what you think
I recommend giving the free Basic Rules a read. #learn-to-play

Hiii, in Chicago, looking for a weekly game to join. Any recommendations for finding a group?
So if I were to create a backstory, how long (ingame months/tears) would it take for my character to reach lvl 6
#find-a-game , dont advertise here. Thank you🥰
Not advertising? Just asking a question/looking for info.
really depends, there arent rules or even guidelines for that
OOOH, sorry
you were asking for tips not a group itself
Check libraries, game/hobby shops, or even use digital tools (Reddit, Facebook, MeetUp, NextDoor) to find other locals wanting to play.
Is it common for DMs to track ingame time to that extent or is a campaign normally just kinda go and not keep track

its not really normal, no
Okay Hank you
tracking time is but not with level
Depends. Some survival themed campaigns track time more closely
they were asking for time corresponding with level
Passage of time does not correspond to levels
Hi. Im back. I was DnD player around 3.0/3.5 edition. Loved Dragonlance. Im pretty lost right now, but Im reading things to catch up. How are u all?

Yes

Uh does 'Faerie fire' affect allies such as characters or familiars if they're in the zone where it is casted or only enemy creatures?
It affects all creatures in the area, assuming they fail their Dexterity saving throw
So that means even allies will have to do a dex saving throw if nearby?
Yup
Thank god you can aim that thing pricesly knowing its range then

yeah im not seeing it, im looking for my kenku race
Again you have to own the book or have access to it via a DNDBeyond campaign with content sharing enabled.
You can access the Kenku species with Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse
?books
There are four ways to access content on D&D Beyond that you may have in your physical books:
- Purchase the full digital book from the marketplace
- Purchase a digital/physical bundle from the marketplace
- Join a D&D Beyond campaign with someone who already owns the book where content sharing has been enabled
- Use the homebrew tools to copy the content from your physical book into D&D Beyond (Note: Do not publish any content copied in this way; it is for personal use only)
Is it just me, or did that lose a couple numbers?
Weird. On my phone, I only see 1 and 2. On my laptop, it shows all four. 🙊
Wonder if it's that new Discord "feature" where the bottom parts of the messages seems to dissapear into nothingness
Until you scroll down further past it.
Read this and still couldn't understand shit
Is there something in particular you're having trouble with?
I don't know what.
I assume you looked through the Playing The Game section of the Basic Rules?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/playing-the-game
It outlines how DnD is played from an overview. Every section afterwards describes the more nitty gritty of how those individual things are done.
Sometimes it may help to list some more specific things that are confusing you. If need be we can help directly and or establish a better background of what you know so far.
i love dnd rp
combat... not so much. can be fun, but gets kinda repetitive after a while without balance of RP and exploration
After you read the Basic Rules, try creating a practice character

@outer kite check out the bot post above for the free rules
Welcome! I’d have a look at #learn-to-play as well as this channel’s pins, both of which have a bunch of useful newbie links including to the free Basic Rules. I suggest making a practice character as you flip through, since it often aids the learning process. The more you learn the easier it is to get into a table as well!
Don't feel pressured to memorize everything, take it at your own pace and focus on what you want to do (e.g. no need to read every spell description, or every classes' mechanics if you don't plan on playing one)
Also feel free to ask any specific questions you have here, we’re always happy to help! :)

Uh ok so what is dnd beyond is it an app?
DDB is the official online tool and content database for D&D 5th edition
its a website/app you can use to make dnd characters
In addition to a character creator, DDB also hosts digital books (both official and 3rd party), a homebrew (custom) content creator, and VTTs (virtual tabletop) for facilitating play.

Where to make an character
You can use a printed character sheet, a pdf sheet, DnDBeyond, etc.
Often your D&D group decides what tools they’ll be using and that can inform what kind of character sheet you’ll use.
But if you’re just getting started, DnDBeyond can be a pretty easy way to create a basic character sheet.
can anybody tell me how to use a physical character sheet dnd beyond is nice but i dont want to have to buy a bunch of digital books to use subclasses, feats and stuff like that
you print it out and fill it in
there are also fillable pdf variants so you can fill them out and then print
There's a sheet here you can use:
https://media.dndbeyond.com/compendium-images/br/ph/character-sheet.pdf
Chapter two of the Basic Rules goes over all the steps for filling it out:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/creating-a-character
But if you get stuck along the way, folks here are happy to answer any questions you've got.

@flat orchid look at the bot post above
Ok
Anyone knows where i could find a text-only party? Because in here i'm only seeing parties that require voice or video as requirement 😭
Check the D&D Beyond forums, Role Gate, Gamers Plane, RPG Crossing, and Reddit’s r/pbp.
Other options include Myth Weavers, No Goblins Allowed, Ongoing Worlds, RolePlay onLine, Roleplayer Guild, Tavern Keeper, and The Tangled Web.
Otherwise, just search “PBP” or “play by post” as keywords using Discord's Discover function!
Play By Post games are pretty rare compared to other games, in general. You'll just have to keep up the search!
Ty
Hello, i finally found a party to play with, but we're all beginners, is there some (ideally free to play, but we can play if it's not too much) oneshot / really short campagns that you'd recommend by any chance ?
lost mines of phandelver
Doesn't seem to be available on dnd beyound, is there some official and safe websites ? @lavish kayak
Thanks a lot for the advice
its not free, but its really good
Peril in Pinebrook is a really, really good starter adventure
"This promotion is no longer available." i don't mind paying, but it doesn't seem available anymore haha (on dnd beyound atleast)
Thanks i'll look into this too !
Lovely thanks
Hi!!
hi!
I'm currently looking into setting up a campaign with some friends... all of us are first time players😅
alright? any questions?
uhh for now not really i think, mostly just looking into the guides and stuff, also have a discord set up for us (we're gonna have to play online) so was looking into how to link a D&D beyond campaign with the discord hahaha
i assume you are using a discord bot
like avrea
yeah avrea
iirc you can !campaign (link) and it works
We have #ddb-avrae-help here, but there's also a dedicated Avrae server linked from the bot's main page.
this worked thanks!
Does anyone know where I can learn how to play the game better? (Without actually playing because no friends)

and #learn-to-play
you dont have to play with friends
There's also the virtual weekends listed on the server's Events tab. They feature learn-to-play sessions occasionally.
I just don’t want to be annoying to more experience players because I’m not good at the game and I’m a pretty slow learner
most people dont mind
Still I want to at least know some more of the basics before actually trying to play
The rules and #learn-to-play would be where to go, then.
Quick question about the armorer artificer lightning launcher
Yes?
Did they release a 2024 artificer yet? Or are you using 2014
For 2014, you can do 1d6, 2d6 or 2d6, 1d6, but only 2d6 once per turn
As a player what books would you recommend getting?
phb, tasha's, xanathar's
The PHB. Anything else depends on whether you're interested in certain settings, subclasses, etc.
I have both of the phb
Just looking to either grab another book or if I should buy the phb on dnd beyond
It’s 201r
It depends on what you're looking for in a book. An adventure to run? Additional rules? Player options? Because those are would mean different recommendations!
Is it 1d6 on the first turns attack and 2d6 every turn after if your attacking the same enemy
The 2d6 can be on any of the launcher attacks but only once per turn. So if you hit twice (or more if you do a fighter multi class) you can only do 2d6 on one of them, the rest must be 1d6.
Okay cool
Player options mostly, im a player so I don't need an adventure book
Okay so it’s every turn after the first 1d6
It’s Jusy thr 2s6 is once per turn
Yes
Xanathar's Guide and Tasha's have a good number of subclasses. Monsters of the Multiverse has a large number of player species.
oh i forgot about the mom book
Thank you
Fizbans is also decent if you plan on dipping your toes into dm or using lore for role play ALOT
Helloo
Welcome to the server!
Thanks for having me
I wanna start playing but i have NO clue how to
Any tutorial videos or guidelines to help me?
Yep
#learn-to-play and the pinned messages would be a start. The ?new command is supposed to summon the bot, but it's been finicky lately.
Bot's having a bit of a day at the moment
Hi! I'm in a bit of a pickle and require some help
And I’m the help
Are you new to D&D? This channel is to help new to D&D folks get started with core game meachanics and rules.
And Undying if they wish
I assume they can read
It's usually a good assumption but just want to make sure they're in the right spot!
Sorry, it's a bit of a long type
No problemo
I played my first session of dnd recently and our dm told us he'll make the character sheet for us, all we did was pick the class so I didn't really think about the character much and chose cleric. During session 1 because i didn't prepare my character well I didn't think about their backstory or personality and the campaign we started with the characters already knowing eich other. I tried doing some roleplaying but without the idea of what my character is like it was a bit all over the place and at some point when i had to choose the god which he serves i chose the god of war even though now i want to be forge domain or perhaps life domain if that doesn't work out (i read what war domain does and it doesn't sound like my cup of tea) and now idk what to do
Ask the DM if you can change things - D&D is supposed to be a collaborative game
Also we gave our characters descriptions in terms of appearance at the start but again because i didn't prepare i described them not exactly like thebcharacter I'd want to play
Same thing - just ask the DM and group if you can change the description
Usually it's not a big issue - it's only an issue if it's changing up game mechanics.
And the DM would have final say if it's allowed at their game.
Hmm, oki. I'll try speaking to them about it
The usual solution to a problem is to talk about it, as Undying is recommending. If they don't budge, you have to decide if it's worth putting up a fuss about, accepting their resistance, or finding another group.
Hey, so me and my friends are very new to dnd and are trying to do it online, but we feel like fish out of water. can anyone help us on that front?
we have tried dnd beyond and roll20 and couldn't make sense of anything
Check the rules (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024) and #learn-to-play? Ask specific questions you have!
we semi know the rules, its the virtual tabletop thats giving us a hard time, unless the solution is in one of those liinks
Roll20 has a bit of a learning curve. You could check out their help docs or visit their server for better help! I personally like Owlbear Rodeo—it's also free and slightly more lightweight, so it's a little easier to understand.
does it have vtt?
It is a VTT.
oh, ok. ill check that one out. thank you
It doesn't have all the features of Roll20, which may or may not make it good for your purposes.
Doesn't hurt to see what it can do, though.
so, im trying to work it, but its giving me an error every time i open a scene
do you know how to fix this?
Interestingly, you don't really need to have a vtt system to run a game.
Sure, it's more convenient to use one, but it's just as effective using a free drawing software like Krita and making a grid based map on it. And the map doesn't need to be detailed at all. After all, it is all in the imagination.
Or even just posting images in a Discord channel... maps and tokens (or even minis) are not needed to play D&D.
But they certainly can be fun!
I think Owlbear.rodeo have their own Discord - maybe folks there can help with any technical issues you're running into.
yeah, im just not one to have a big imagination, if any. i understand some or maybe even most don't need a vtt though
ok, ill check that
I personally use roll20 because it was the easiest vtt for me to get used to.
And it was super easy to make character sheets, stat blocks, and rolling dice
we tried, but one friend got stuck in a loop of signing in forever and it wouldn't let him in, and the other two of us couldn't exactly figure it out
another question, how does the dm manage enemies and their health and attacks and such? or is that on paper?
Paper/Discord/other tool - whatever makes sense.
Owlbear.rodeo just cares about map and tokens generally.
yeah, i figured i could use owlbear for the vtt and use dnd beyond for characters
Hey, I got a question. How does having 2 races work, is that even allowed or a real thing?
Yes - you pick the race/species that you want your features from and then flavor to suit.
How about 2 class then?
So for example, let's say you want an elf-gnome. Pick the species you want the mechanical features from and then just describe them as a mixed elf-gnome character.
Ok
2 classes would be multiclassing - generally I'd recommend not multiclassing as a new to D&D player.
Multiclassing. No homebrew or rule stretching required
If you pick the Elf species, then you could choose something like the Artisan background to represent your Gnomish heritage.
I’m a lil lost now
Is there anyways someone could gives a more in depth description?
Please and thanks
So you take the elven species features for your race/species.
Then take the Artisan background to reflect the D&D lore of gnomes being good artificers/crafts people.
Or did you mean multiclassing?
I should also note that don't feel beholden to follow official D&D lore - what matters most is what you and your firends decide is lore for your table.
And the goal is to have fun
Because I want to make a Wizard/Artificer that’s a either a variant human or half elf
But idk how to do it correctly or at all basically
Well I'd first get used to how to create a character: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/creating-a-character
As for Wizard/Artificer multiclassing, the free rules only provide a wizard subclass (artificer is paid content requiring purchasing the book they come in) - and then follow the information in multiclassing: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/creating-a-character#Multiclassing
But as I noted previously, I wouldn't recommend multiclassing for new players as it adds additional complexity to a character.
and i thought pokemon tcg was a complex game, can anyone help me?
Just kidding don’t actually go there

Follow this bots instructions
bruh i just read it all and it basically said "you can't play this game until you've bought ALL their books"...
Ha. No
that's not what it says at all
Its literally giving you the rules FOR FREE
you can play with never investing a single cent
if your new and find a group you dont need any books
I played dnd for four years before I bought my first book
also library's exist
Dive deep with the Free Rules. This has everything you need to know to play, but you don't have to learn it all at once and you don't need to be an expert to start playing.
It points you to the free rules
Since you seemed confused by the concept of this game having rules in the first place earlier, I think maybe this isn’t the game for you
Luckily my friend is a dnd nerd so I get all my books for free
There's even a link to them
except for online where it say "you can play for how high or how little much you wanna spend" so bacically saying you gotta buy stuff reguardless.
No. You can both play AND be a DM without buying a single thing.
i've seen tons of videos and it seems fun i just don't know how to use the character sheet
Then take your time. You’re not gonna learn it over night
Why would it say "as little as you want" if you still had to fork over money?
Reading the Basic Rules will tell you how to do that
And tragically you’ll need to… read… a lot
it's gonna take days??? months???
you actually probably can learn it overnight. You have to actually read it though
For you I’d guess months. But I started getting the hang of it by my third session
Less than half a day. An hour maybe. D&D isn't a complex system.
i just wanna learn how to use the character sheet everything else i'll maybe probably not learn over time.
well it's a package deal haha
okay, whats your confusion regarding the Character Sheet? Are you using an online tool or a physical sheet?
i watched nothing but tutorials last night and i still don't get it
You need to know the rules in order for the character sheet to even make sense
the character sheet won't make sense if you don't know their application in the game
there is some hyperbole here. You can fill out a character sheet without knowing most of the rules.
Don't watch tutorials. Read the rules first and then watch videos if things aren't clear.
You should definitely look into the Free Rules so you have some context for what a character is like in this game, tho.
are you referring to the rules in this discord? because all it does is take me to a chat and i am not going to read 100k worth of people talking.
the rules of the game
no.
The rules of the system
so you gotta pay for rules too????
no
Ffs no
sir are you trolling at this point?
i literally called them free dawg
I think they’re just like this
so i do have to read 100k worth of people talking?
im just very confused
alright I'm out, good luck everyone. I think you're trolling
No, no no no no
Aight everyone slow down
I believe people have already told you that you can play D&D for free. You don't need to buy anything
Enjoy freedom
We’re overwhelming them
ok so i click what to read everything?
once i read it i'll come back
what did you read before that you said you didn't get?
Hi. Welcome.
welcome flapjack
Yes
just the human page on google from their book and also #learn-to-play which just tells you have to play with others rather than actually telling you how to play the game
But only in the 2014 book
yes, it's just not in the base player's handbook
I forgot the name of the book
I think it's in Tasha's
Yes it’s Tasha’s
Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
Right here! :D
Yes. It hasn't been reprinted for the 2024 rules so some GMs may not allow it
Ty
#find-a-game will tell you all you need to know on how to join
NP
do not read everything in the Free Rules. you'll be ingesting a bunch of stuff that isn't relevant to what you need right now. pace yourself.
go to the website DnDBeyond. under the website's Sources tab, there will be an option that reads "D&D Beyond Basic Rules". Click that. I'd recommend reading through the "Playing the Game" section and the "Character Creation" section.
there's a lot in #learn-to-play and it's certainly not just "you need to play with others"
What’s that command that summons dyno to give those links to the free rules?
idk so ill just do this: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024
or this ^
i just need a step by step on character sheets so that i can ask a ocassional question
That’s “?new”

You have the vague idea for Dave, human fighter, man with sword.
Some NPC wants you to get the giant rat out of their basement.
You want to catch the rat by surprise, so you announce you're trying to sneak into the basement. The dungeon master asks you to roll stealth.
You look at your sheet, you have a +2 to stealth. You roll a twenty sided die, it's a 14, your score is 14+2 for a total of 16. This is enough to sneak up on the rat.
Combat starts.
You want to hit the rat with your sword.
You look at your sheet, you have a +5 to hit things with a sword.
You roll a d20, it's an 11. +5 for 16.
16 is higher than the rats armour of 10, so you hit.
When you hit the sword does 1 eight sided dice + 3 damage. You roll an 8, you do a total of 11 damage.
The rat dies. Huzzah.
Repeat loop forever.
You can't create a character sheet without knowing the fundamental rules of the game.
Go to dnd beyond, then we can start helping you.
Also that’d go to #character-discussion
You're in luck! The Free Rules have this exact thing. Please read them. The stuff you need is in the Creating a Character chapter.
You are a god damn genius /gen
geez why not?
No no, he’s writing down the experience of the game
what's the point of having a character sheet if you don't know how to use it?
ok imma read everything that is relavent.
Sorry I think I’m getting a tad overwhelmed
it's ok, there are two conversations going on at once, it's confusing
Its alright
Ideally, your character is a competent adventurer. If you don't know what being a competent adventurer is like for D&D, then you and your buddies are gonna have less fun when you actually play.
Here, let’s just lurk and watch the show
i mean you can kind of use that same logic for a lot of things like, 'why own money if you don't know how to properly use it.
Woohoo imma grab popcorn. Want some?
Yes please!
this isn't analogous to that at all haha
im good at writing stories and i have one for him
thats not really what a character sheet is concerned with
A character sheet covers the abilities your character can do in game
please read the stuff we're telling you to read
i know
You're making this much more complicated than it needs to be.
- Read the rules of the game
- Make a character using the rules of the game
- Find people to play with
I doubt that
i want to but everyone keeps trying to talk to me and it would be rude to ignore
you aren't obligated to reply to anyone here
Read the rules then come back here if you have questions
You’re kinda being rude anyway. So I’d rather you just read
yeah but it would still be rude to ignore
Actually, I’m being rude too. I’m just gonna watch

i haven't even said anything tho sorry if i offended you.
if i may ask what is it that i said to have offended you?
Please take a moment to review the information in #learn-to-play and the free basic rules (see bot message just posted for alink).
Then feel free to ask specific questions
Being the most wilfully ignorant person I’ve seen in a while
wait there is a ai i can ask for if i have questions?
no its a discord bot like any other
how so? please explain?
We do not allow AI-generated work or tools to be posted here
i am just confused on the game
can we not get into a personal dispute 😭
dawg just go read
That's why before you play a game, you read the rules of the game
“Here are the free rules!”
You: “Ffs I can’t believe I need to buy a thousand books to play!”
i just wanna know how someone can get offened by someone who doesn't know how to play lol
Aight im out of popcorn
How about this fellas:
we shaddup and let the poor guy read, doesn’t matter what your impression of him is.
Though he may not be the most polite, or great person to you, I think it’d be best to just leave him to his own devices for a bit to let him get a bit more info, and to cool down this conversation.
Okay I need to pull myself out
We’re frustrated that you’re probably just trolling us
My apologies to everyone else who’s trying to be helpful
So how about we back off and don’t get frustrated
well i look at the rules firsr thing i see is "what books to buy" lol
Have more popcorn
Let's stop - they've been given the resources. It's up to them to use them at this point.
Free rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024
Does not cost anything
i just don't know how to play sorry everyone i didn't mean to get people mad 😕
Who's mad?
Alrighty 😂🤷♂️ have fun reading the rules
people i guess?
It’s ok to be confused, but for future reference let’s slow down the conversation
This is the most active I’ve ever seen this chat
Folks - let's give them space to parse what we shared with them
Yup
yes i agree
i'll be back in like 3 hours lol
prob more.
Focus on the first 2 chapters for now
You don't have to memorize it
Just become familiar with the terms and mechanics
chapters??? i have to read a story too??
No - but this is a ttrpg with game rules and mechanics
Chapters for organizational purposes
oh my bad
You don't have to pay a cent to play. I played my first game without paying anything. Played with a group who was all new, minus the DM who helped with a beginner friendly adventure and helped walk us through how to play, and made pre-generated characters. Since that game, I've been hooked.
Chose to buy a book, but didn't have to if I truly didn't want to. I personally found it helpful to have. If you don't feel like you're getting what you need from the free resources available and you really do wanna learn, encourage you to buy the book for more helpful info, or leverage the community here for help. ( I have and they've been nothing but helpful), but its going to require some amount of effort to learn. If you're that interested in learning, then it will be worth it.
Personally I think at least as a player, buying a book that costs as much as a new video game that gives you a potential lifetime of fun is worth it too, but that’s just me
The books call to me
Buying books as a player is great, but I'll never recommend it to people who are just starting out
The collection grows
Absolutely.
I played for four years before I bought my first book
Yeah having the free rules available online is super clutch
where do i write my characters story? do i write it where it say 'features, and traits?
There should be a place that says “backstory”
i found background is that it?
because im reading it
Is this in dnd beyond?
yeah that's what everyone told me to look at
it's not very descriptive, it would say 'add to your character sheet' but it doesn't say where.
oh found it thank you
That’s good
Have fun, and for future reference go to #character-discussion for help making a character
no thank you, im great at writing a story and a character, it's just putting it in the character sheet that was the problem
It’s not just backstory, it can be character builds, and who knows maybe your story writing skills may not translate into dnd too well
So ive been wanting to join a dnd campaign for a very long time. But i havent found anyone. And idk what online app i can use. Can someone help me out here?
I’d recommend checking out our #find-a-game channel
That should have everything you need, and good luck!
Remember that a library or local tabletop games store is a good place to check out
You can also look here #looking-for-players
Or #looking-for-dm no?
I am way too ant-social to do in person stuff
If that’s your preference, go ahead!
D&D isn't a video game, you play it with other people either in person or online
There are video games based on D&D however
BG3 is one
that's what i mean how do i play it online?
and what if i got no irl friends?
Then you can try looking for an online group
how do i do that? and how does that work?
what point of them do i read where they talk about online?
They can help you find games
oh ok thank you
DMs post their games in #looking-for-players
You can also post your own looking for group post. The instructions are here #find-a-game
oh also where it says 'choose a background' it talks about abilities and backgrounds what do those things mean?
Hey Belphegor can you help him my internet is cutting out soon
also what does score mean? i only know it means post game score and song score
Probably talking about ability scores, which is just stats
wish i can put a screen shot of it and put it here
none of the things im seeing go with my characters story
at least i don't think
Which is why I recommended you to #character-discussion
People there can help you
And if you tell them you’re new they should hopefully be patient with you
And also there’s more they just need you to purchase the books. So either reflavour that somehow or buy the books or find out in some other way what the classes are (friends, asking the discord)
geez so i do have to buy their books
If you want the full content yes
i'll just look at the book pages online
so is it for copying stories because i'd like to make my own
pre-made stories feel like they will be bland and boring
Is there anyone who is willing to help out a fairly new player?
No it’s for more subclasses, monsters and content
Most people here.
Nugget dnd player helpline, how may I help you today?
Lol, I am working on a lvl 1 evil paladin for an ai campaign that my niece and I are doing. The Fallen Hero background gives me a cursed armor or weapon, but I don't what to do for a level 1. I am planning to do oathbreaker at level 2 if that helps
I hope that I am explaining this correctly?
Sure, no rush!
Aight im back!
Oh interesting
Have you decided your species/made a character sheet?
Paladin doesn't get their subclass until level 3.
I wrongly assumed a typo there actually, nice catch
Im going with drow, I used a generator to make a character sheet
I didn't know that, thank you
The only things you really need to decide at level one are your spells, armour, weapon and backstory
I've only ever played a level 6, a level 17, and a level 20 on one shots
At this point, since you're using a generator to make a character and a generator to pretend to create a game for you, I would highly recommend just letting go of this ai premise and trying the actual game out for yourself.
Notoriously, ai hallucinates DnD rules that don't exist.
I play with an actual group every other Friday, but since I am bedridden and can't find other games, I was going to use Ai so my niece and I could practice. I'll try to find real groups again.
Possibly try online groups?
#find-a-game could help with that
The group that I run with is online. I will try that, thank you
I see, good luck!
@winter fiber
What exactly do you not understand about the rules? Imma try to help you here
im new to d&d but im trying to find the best way to make my dm mad does anyone know any ways
Don't. Why make the DM mad?
I would not recommend continuing this line of thought.
Imma need to stop you there
the thing is my dm is trying to make me mad it this wierd thing that we have going on as a game
so friendly banter?
yes
If it's friendly messing with each other then that's different
You gotta understand how you sounds out of context
how?
Without context you just asked how to make someone who provides a service for you mad
You were literally asking us, a group of people who could and do include DMs, how to be a maddening and mildly toxic player
But with context it’s fine lol
ah i see how that sounds
Anyway play a bard
a bard
Eloquence
what?
Never fail a charisma check again
But since we now know the answer is friendly banter: Twilight Cleric, Peace Cleric, Chronurgist Wizard
It’s a subclass
