Just to clarify, Magic still uses a creatures AC when determining success, but will use spell save DC(if hits) if whatever is cast has additional effects?
No, that's not really accurate
some spells involve a spell attack (either a ranged spell attack or melee spell attack) and those are rolled againts AC
many spells involve one or more saving throws, which are rolled by the target against your spell save DC
Some spells involve both a spell attack and a saving throw
For example, firebolt is a ranged spell attack, whereas fireball is a dexterity saving throw
Hi all, so just for some context I’m an extremely new D&D player as I’ve only played in about 6 1 hour D&D sessions, I’m currently looking for a game but I’m struggling to find one due to an error message that keeps appearing every-time I send through a post on #looking-for-dm , could anyone please help me with this issue, honestly I would just like to start second campaign. Thank you for reading and I hope you all have a memorable and fantastic session.
you want #moderator-support for server issues, including errors with the bot
That's not allowed because you're asking for a pirated copy, which is against server rules
Also as a good rule of thumb, if you think something might not be allowed and so might get removed, best not to post it. Or at the very least ask in #moderator-support first
As Davyd said, if a digital version is not available from wizards, an otherwise created pdf version would be pirated which is something we don't allow.
There is a pdf of the one of the starter sets here: https://media.wizards.com/2020/dnd/downloads/dnd_starter_rulebook.pdf

Jayn's link goes to the starter set rulebook. Depending on which physical starter set you have, I believe that at one point Lost Mine of Phandelver was available for free (back during the early pandemic era), but don't know if it still is. Dragon of Icespire Peak and Dragons of Stormwreck Isle (the adventures from the Essentials Kit and the current Starter Set, respectively) are available for digital purchase from D&D Beyond.
(LMOP is no longer available in any form. Only the updated/expanded version, Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk.)
Hello! I'm new here, but not to dnd. I had been a forever DM, and recently retired to play the game. My first character was the drow twilight cleric, which was scrapped by the DM after the first session, even though I acted according to the character alignment and background. I'm in desperate need of a new character and I'm only restricted to a wood elf and a druid. Could you guys give me any suggestions. I'm not sure where to put this.
You may not have seen that we have a #character-discussion channel. But if you're restricted to one race and class, isn't the choice made for you?
No, it's actually a homebrew, yet the DM follows some rules. He suggested druid. I'm open to any other class. My party doesn't have a druid, has wizards, ranger, fighter, paladin. Cleric is allowed too. Idk why DM doesn't allow other classes.
I think the other channel is the better place, since this channel is for acquainting folks with the basics of the game.
Where can I go to join a party

If you open the hashtag the Dyno bot sent, you can click on ‘looking for players’ to find DMs looking for new players
Thx
Hey! I’m sorta new to dnd, I’ve tried campaigns in the past but they all failed. I’ve been wanting to play a serious campaign and play it right, so would anyone be willing to help me out and get me in one?

I’m a DND noob too
I'm also a DnD noob xD
Have you played DND before? Because I haven’t 😭
Hi all
I've never played DnD. Lack the friends to do so... But I found a group in this discord to play with! Really excited to begin my campaign!
I've played barely once and I have a character but I'm looking for a group to dip my toe in
I’m still trying to learn on my own how to play before finding a group I think, I don’t even have a character yet
Uh, the DM and others players were really nice in teaching me!
Do you mind if I can join sometime? I’m still kind of nervous because I might do something wrong
Same here, I understand the rules slightly

I've read about the rules, but I guess I have to put them to practice to really understand them now.
Same here
I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbooker Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
Okay I will
Oh, will see it, thanks!
Hi

Yes i made it beyond and i think i would probably play on my laptop
Can I see the character?
sure do i just copy and paste into a dm?
I'll send you a DM
sent a friend request. you can friend me then send me link to character.
you don't have to if you don't want. But I wanted to see your handiwork!
they can just post the link to a DDB sheet here or in #character-discussion ..
i would post in there but i'm not sure how to format it or anything
Your DDB page for the character should have a share link on the top right
hello, am noob
hi @surreal epoch !
what kind of noob are you? Do you have a character picked out?
welcome to hobby.
no, im really confused
ty!
maybe when you have a character made up I can show you how the game works.
It's one thing to read rules, it's another to be told, it can be fun to be shown however.
New player here was always intrigued by this how do i get started

i was interested in paladin
So do you keep your character in every story or always make a new one
It depends. For one shots, sometimes it's just for one session. Sometimes same hero(ine) for long campaign that can last for months.
some people I suppose COULD play same character in multiple stories, but I think most people make a new char for different stories because progressing as the same character might get old after a while.
Depends on the DM.
was it a mistake to agree to dm for some friends when i literally only ever played ONE dnd session (it wasnt even serious)???
Not necessarily - it's a matter of willingness to try and do and learn from the experience and improve more than anything else that leads to being a successful DM. The main point is to ensure everyone (including you as the DM) has good, safe fun playing D&D together.
If you need to bounce ideas and get suggestions from other DMs check out #dm-discussion.
Hi evryone. I'm a semi experienced DND player looking for new friends and a campaign to join. I'm easy to work with, I can play the role and easily trained to play whatever style. I main two characters I created and drew up myself.
look in #find-a-game
I have a announcements
shadow the hedgehog
Just bought my first tube of dice at a local comic book shop that just opened up.
I didn't know they came in tubes.
My brother is a long time player and also a DM and I finally caved and played a one-shot campaign online and LOVED it. I have other friends that are also interested but I am not sure how to get into it without knowing a DM who wants to host a campaign for us
(yes my brother probably would BUT I know its a big time comittment so I dont wanna put that on him)
If you wanted to look for a DM using this server I recommend checking out #find-a-game
Otherwise, have you entertained the idea of becoming a DM yourself?
Hey would anyone be able to help me out with something, if you can please dm me or reply to my message and I should see it

I actually have a neat concept for my first character if i get that far
Went to a "Crash Course Intro to D&D" at the local gaming tavern. It was entertaining, and good to get a snapshot of what portions of the game might be like. But it was less structured than I'd like, and the DM let the two teen boys at the table take up far too much of their focus with teen boy behavior.
Hm
I'll continue reading through the 2024 PHB in the meantime, and I'm signed up for a newbie one-shot at the gaming tavern in a few weeks and then another intro one-shot at another gaming pub a week later.
Will look at the shtuff in a moment finishing up work
i absolutely have and hope to some day but id love to play as a character first to get the feel of things first! but i really appreciate the suggestion
also luckily my brother was so excited he agreed to DM for me and invited me into his other group lol but i told him my new goal is to learn a campaign and DM for him!!!
Having a look at the first two chapters of the rules to give yourself a refresher is probably a good start: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
If you're looking for a group, this server has channels for that here #find-a-game
thank you diva
Are dominate person and monster good spells for a aberrant mind?
Or a nice tech option to slot it
Lucky i have none TT
here's a tip: There's a lot to learn but the important stuff can be easily learned by playing
Both of them are good spells, yeah. They also happen to be eligible for the Twinned Spell metamagic that you could potentially pick up as a sorcerer.
Though I fear you got misdirected a bit there. This channel is ok for basic questions about the rules. When it comes to character creation, you are better off in the previous channel #character-discussion
AHHHHHH thanks
hi just wondering how to post an advert to collect dms and players onto a server where we run single session games where you can have an on server communal character where you can track and rp as well as having private campaigns ran by people who want to run mini campaigns that aren't affiliated to the servers rp.
You should probably check out the lfg channels for that
Hi all
Morning.
lol yeah, I've never played DnD xD. Just got done making a character
hello! I'm completely new to the game (though have heard of the concept before) and it seems so awesome so far! :]
hi!
How are you?
Samee, cant wait to learn more abt it
I'm good, trying to find a somewhat new DM who can still explain stuff during session 0 :o
wbu??
ikr!! I've heard so much and now I can see why lol
Same, ive heard ppl in this community are rly welcoming to newcomers so i thought id give it a try
yep, same here, however I'm a bit clueless how else to find other new people here, besides leaving my traces on the official lfg forum and wasting my lfg bot message on this server (now I have to wait another week in order to post a normal lfg :"))
Yo, hi
Hi
Ive joined a few min ago so im not rly sure what those are XD
I've never really played DND before, and I'm not exactly very knowledgeable, but I do have some basic knowledge. I wanted to ask if there were any experienced players that were doing a game and at what time so I could join??
looking-for-game forum on the site and this #find-a-game channel! it's easy to use, but you can't edit your post unfortunately, only delete it and wait for a week to post once again xd
#find-a-game :]]
Hi 😄
Alright thank you appreciate it 🙏
hello!
Helo
gosh, I hope I did not confuse you too much with my message lol
Not at all XD it helped alot tyy
glad to help!! basically if you're a player you should post your req on #looking-for-dm (and I would appreciate if you tag me once you find a dm xdd since I've used my chance to post there for a week)
Ofcc!!
tyy!!
sooo im realy new to d&d and i dont realy khnow how to start
Check out #learn-to-play ! There's a bunch of useful resources including a link to the Free Rules!
kk
If you'd like feedback on it feel free to share it here or to #character-discussion . Otherwise if you want to start on your game search using this server I'd recommend reading through #find-a-game
So i post my character there?
If you want feedback on it yeah. If you made it on D&DBeyond there should be a share link in the top right of your character's page
Just make sure their privacy settings are set to public so other people can view them. The option to do so should be on the first tab of the character builder towards the bottom.
Otherwise if you've made yours manually using a sheet feel free to upload the PDF to a trusted filesharing site (i.e. google docs, imgur) and send the share link to that instead
I dont see the share linn
The share button will be right next to the short and long rest buttons
soo i made my character like 1.5 month ago and i dont khnow how to make it i mean my character is a dude who was send to slay a dragon but he was burned to death but mage from his party cast a spell on him that saved him but he stayed as a skeleton. and i dont khnow do i need to make him a human or what
Hi guys!😄
Thats ok discord’s kinda dumb anyways
Hey guys! I want to start DnD again, I DMd a couple sessions a while back but I wasn't exactly the best, but we didn't really have an option since i was the only volunteer and the only one with actual experience (even if it was a very dumbed down version of DnD). I'm excited to finally get to play with people and I want to try being a player. Can anyone walk me through the process on this server specifically? Right now I'm making a character on DnDBeyond but i dont know what to do afterwards
Skeletons aren't directly an official player option, but you could reflavor a Reborn! Unfortunately that species (technically lineage) isn't in the Free Rules though
oh ok
ty
This server doesn't necessarily have the bandwidth to teach 1 on 1 since so many new people join every day. To learn the game I recommend checking out #learn-to-play which contain a lot of newbie resources including the Free Rules. If you have any specific questions about learning the game we can try to answer them and/or direct you to the relevant section of the rules
Ok thanks, I'll check it out
Is there someone on this server where I can get into a new campaign? I am a slight beginner - been in one campaign for the past 3 months or so. I live in SLC and can play in-person in that area, but also very interested in joining a remote campaign.

No one can type in those channels. They hold the bot posted templates.
The commands to summon the template are in the #find-a-game
You can type the commands in any channel you can type in but not the looking-for channels
Hello
hello!
Hey would you mind helping me out, I think the other person is off
Hello
hello Jackson!
Nice to meet you
Hi I have know of dnd for a long time but I have never played it
Same
hey there what should i prepare before joining a game?
i'm working on a character and his backstory. its alot of fun but after 3 pages i wonder how much detail i need to add.
Keep your backstory vague and to 3 paragraphs, until you find a game you don’t know what if any of it will matter in the DM world
I have never played dnd before and the books are massive
- I don’t have them
Can someone explain
Also I don’t have a group to play with sadly
so the dm builds my backstory and i only prepare a rough idea?
Hello
hello there
Have a rough backstory that briefly describes where you came from, what you did before becoming an adventurer, and then a simple story about what got your character into adventuring (came from a small fishing village, fished on family's fishing boat, ship was attacked by pirates and I was briefly captured. I now seek revenge on the pirates and trying to find my way back home). Notice that we don't specify a specific village or a specific pirate group so that it can be fitted in to almost any D&D game/campaign without too much issue.
How do I create a character in Roll20. I have tried more than 3 times bru.
I'd suggest asking on Roll20's forums/servers as folks there will likely know the intracacies of using Roll20's tools. You can also check with folks in #third-party as Roll20 is a 3rd party tool/service.
What are good ability scores for a barbarian Dragonborn?
Useing a standard array?
You can use standard, point buy or roll. All are options depending on how your DM wants to run the game. With a Barbarian, you're going to want higher strength and constitution. Dexterity is also very helpful.
?tag new abilities
Abilities
All creatures have six abilities that measure physical and mental characteristics: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.
Each ability has a score from 1 to 20, which represents the magnitude of an ability. Each ability also has a modifier from -5 to +5, derived from its score. Add the modifier when you make a D20 Test with the corresponding ability or when a rule asks you to do so.
Determine your ability scores by using one of the following three methods. Your DM might prefer you to use a particular one.
- Standard Array. Use the following six scores for your abilities: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8.
- Random Generation. Roll four d6s and record the total of the highest three dice. Do this five more times, so you have six numbers.
- Point Cost. You have 27 points to spend on your ability scores. The cost of each score is shown on the Ability Score Point Costs table. For example, a score of 14 costs 7 of your 27 points.
After assigning your ability scores, adjust them according to your background. Finally, determine your ability modifiers using the Ability Scores and Modifiers table. Write the modifier next to each of your scores.
Ok I’m going be honest I do not have a group to play with
I’m using standard array
Barbarians are simple, str,con are the stats recommended on the quick build
Ah gotcha. Still totally okay to practice making a character. You just may have to change how their stats are allocated when you find a game.
I’m looking for a game that’s CST in Discord VC
Please take a look in our LF channels. We don't allow group formation/solicitation outside of them

Thanks for the Info. I had a generell idea of how it works, and a friend of mine went through the process of Creative a warlock with me on beyond. I‘ll do that right Away
Ok. A world that rarely will be visited again is created, and through Players decisions, DMs Plans and boths creativity a story will be told. Think I got it
So, any recommendations now? What else should I know
Honestly when you learn all the basics such as rolls, stats, spells, etc etc. It's just a matter of finding a game
I‘ll get to it tmr then. Thanks for introducing me
No problem, hope you enjoy yourself!

im like brand new to DND and want to play with some people
any sessions starting or open
im a bit newer to dndbeyond and dnd as a whole, i know a good amount about it, but atm i was wondering if someone could help me figure out why my paladin has duplicate spells? i managed to fix some of them but i still have duplicate divine smite? (Oath of devotion paladin btw)

we utilize the Looking-for channels to find groups - forming groups in any other channel is against the rules (as it would lead to channels being flooded by that chatter)
wait i just noticed #character-discussion i should probably have said it there oopsies
What level is your character?
lv 3
I was speaking to Outer. But I can tell you that paladins are able to cast divine smite for free a few times per day. Those are probably your free divine smites.
Is there a campaign I can join?

Can action surge give back bonus
If you mean "do you also get a second bonus action", no.
As per the text "you can take one additional action, except the Magic Action." Bonus actions are distinct and therefore ineligible.
Hi everyone
I played a lot of other tabletop role playing games, but I only mastered 1 or 2 other games and I'm totally new to mastering D&D
My brother gifted me the last edition of Spelljammer and I'm super excited to master it!
I'm really bad with numbers and logic so I'm hoping to find ways to simplify the rules and focus on the role play
Feel free to DM me if you want to have a chat 😊

Hello, I'm sort of new 2 dnd and am looking for ppl 2 play with
Welcome! This server has a dedicated space for game search. check out #find-a-game for general info on that
You can also always go to the looking for players channel
A lot of the maths can be done in advance and just referenced.
You don’t need to add up “the proficiency bonus plus the str mod” every time, you can add them in advance and just know every time you swing that axe it’s the same number to the d20
How does one find people to play with?????

You use the LFG channels here or other fourms/sites/servers to find a group
If I was playing dnd on my phone what set up would be good
For what exactly? Character sheets? Dice rolling? Virtual Tabletop?
I like using DnDBeyond for character sheets and they have a mobile app. Comes with dice rolling as well.
There's also Fight Club 5e mobile app but you will have to manually create any materials not in the SRD. It also has dice rolling (note that this only has the 2014 SRD materials).
For VTTs Owlbear.rodeo and DnDBeyond Maps are actually usable by mobile devices.
@small horizon -- DO NOT try to play foundry on your phone. It will not work. Roll20 will work fine.
I am new in dnd and I quite can’t figure out how levels and combat works, anyone has a good tutorial I can watch for info?
For dnd in general I do use dnd and beyond to roll and look at character sheet
Basically level one is a tutorial fight, and you then get a tutorial level up into the first actually usable level (level 2)
So I instantly level up after my first fight?
You can - the mobile app will let you view your sheet and any dice rolls can be sent to the DnDbeyond campaign shared game log that that character is part of.
It also depends on the level up system
Sometimes. Depends on the DM. But generally they level you up as soon as they can at a good milestone
Ah yeah. If it’s Xp leveling then it’s when you’ve killed enough or otherwise achieved the xp required. Which is typically also early
Got it thanks!!
Yeah
When I was making my character it asked me the level up system
I also have one more question. When in combat does a damage value below your armor value counts to remove hit points from you?
There are two rolls involved in making an attack.
Attack roll: seeing if the attack hits
If it hits (hitting at or above the enemy armor class), then:
Damage roll: seeing how much damage the attack does

Hey there, there are some resources up here that can help you learn, including the free rules and some introductory videos!
@dapper rain D&D beyond has in their tools section a pretty easy step by step guide to making a character. If you make a character in D&D beyond I'd love to teach you a thing or two!
Ill try!
i have no idea what's happening 😭
Take a moment to review the free rules - they have a scetion specifically on how to create a character.
Follow along with that as you go through DnDBeyond's character creation process.

Did you generate your ability scores yet?
^ Use one of the three methods above to generate ability scores.
Is there a rule for when DMs rotate on who dms so both can play their character, like do they receive exp for dm'ing since they cant have their pm also there at the same time?
I just play that everyone stays on the same progression track... if you miss a session you still get xp, if you GM a session you still get xp... so that the party remains level and I'm not punishing my party members for having lives.

roll20
dndb
OwlbearRodeo
dicebot
normal discord
ect
which do i need to learn? all of them?
The Dungeon Master (DM) decides how to play online. A lot of DMs will use a virtual tabletop (VTT), such as Roll20, owlbear rodeo, or Foundry, while others use just theatre of the mind (aka imagination).
So talk to the DM when you join an online group on which platform they'll be using.
thanks, my main issue is sheets. i found a sheet i can edit on my pc but it seems like a DMs want to use anything but a pdf. they want to use dndb or some other app for them, not pdfs. im broke. i cant be spending $30 just for a class or feat i want to use
DMs tend to be the ones who buy and thus share books (physical or digital).
I bought digital books on D&D Beyond and share them with my players for them to create their characters. VTTs like Roll20 and Foundry sells the 5E digital books that the DMs who use those VTTs can share with their players.
ah
Even then VTTs allows customization if the DM doesn't have a specific digital book with a specific class/feat.
Don't worry about it for now. Talk with the DM. They may not allow you to use certain classes or feats in their campaign.
alright
Hi, I'm new to DnD and I was looking through the looking for players channel and my work schedule is not consistent. And from what I've seen in the channel people have specific days and times. How would I go about finding the right campaign for me?
Cast your net wide. Check other D&D-related Discord servers' LFG channels as well (most D&D Youtubers have their own Discord servers).
Also, check your local D&D Facebook groups for LFG.
Alrighty thank you

Is there any way to find local games?
If you wanted to find games around your local area I would check local TTRPG social media groups (e.g. Facebook), libraries, and game stores
What i did was talk to people at social meets. Eventually found myself a group, if you’re taking the initiative you’ll often have to be dm though
Hello!
Hi can anyone help me im looking to become a DM
- In Dungeons & Dragons, one person serves as the Dungeon Master, the game’s lead storyteller and referee. The DM runs the adventure for the players, who navigate its hazards and decide which paths to explore.
- Learn how to be a Dungeon Master with this YouTube video or D&D Beyond article.
- The D&D Free Rules are available at no cost and cover everything you need to know to play.
- Decide what kind of campaign you want to run. Here’s a few good options for new DMs.
- Get advice from your fellow Dungeon Masters in #dm-discussion and #dm-world-building.
?dmtips
The most important part of being a good DM is facilitating the fun of everyone at the table. Keep these tips in mind to help things go smoothly:
D&D is about telling a story as a group, so let the players contribute to the outcome through the words and deeds of their characters. If some players are reluctant to speak up, ask them what their characters are doing.
The DM isn’t competing against the player characters. Your job is to referee the rules, run monsters, and keep the story moving.
Treat your players in a fair, impartial manner. The rules help you do this, but you can make your own rulings to ensure everyone is having fun.
Adventures have no prescribed outcome. You can alter any encounter to make it more interesting and fun for your players.
Dungeon Masters are fallible, just like everyone else, and even experienced DMs make mistakes. If you overlook, forget, or misrepresent something, correct yourself and move on. No one expects you to memorize every part of this adventure and all the rules in the Basic Rules. As long as your players are having fun, everything will be just fine.
?charater creation
Are you trying to roll character stats? Go to #ddb-avrae-commands and run !randchar
That will do the 4d6 keep highest 3 dice rolls for generating character stats.

Class
Your class is the primary definition of what your character can do and gives you a variety of special features, such as a fighter’s mastery of weapons and armor, and a wizard’s spells. This article provides a quick breakdown of each available class and can help guide your choice.
Each class also lets you choose a subclass, which provides unique features and further specialization within the class.
was thinking of changeling rouge
Nice. Any thought on what background you want to take?

ah i see, ty
So are you filling in a PDF/paper character sheet or using a tool like DnDBeyond?
ye
Still not clear if you're using PDF/paper or a digital sheet like DnDBeyond.
If in paper/PDF start filling in the features your class gives you under the class features area.
Then add in race/species features into the species traits area.
Finally add your background feat/features into the Feats area.
Also note what things you get proficiency in and circle them in your attributes area (e.g. the strength, dexterity, constitution, etc.) area to the left.
At level 1 your proficiency bonus is +2 so add that in the Proficiency Bonus field.
Then decide if you're going to use dice rolling, standard array, or point buy for determining your ability scores
After generating those scores, fill in the ability/attribute fields with them.
For every 2 points over 10, you get a +1 modifer.
For every 2 points under, you get a -1 modifier.
The modifier goes in the modifier field for each ability.
If you are proficent in an ability from your class/background, add your proficiency bonus to the what you fill in for that ability.

can anyone share some of their experiences with joining a campaign on here? i keep seeing great stories but im too scared to join one
How do i make a character?
On the dnd beyond website when you log in, press "collections" and then "characters" and then you should be able to make one there, if you're using the app then click "characters" at the bottom and then "create new character"
Assuming they didn't change the website method
Oh okok thanks
Hey all, I'm a new player with some questions for my group of friends whom all just started playing. One of my friends is DM-ing for us and also new to being a DM.
- VTT: We started with Roll20 and thinking of moving to Foundry atm, saw OBR but leaning towards Foundry atm. Some questions about VTT comparing with Roll20.
a. Character creation: How are the rest comparing with Roll20? I'm thinking of making a Hexlock, maybe Celestial or Undead (we're playing CoS) but Roll20 only has The Fiend or Fiend Patron.
b. Character sheets linking to map/game: I like the functions like clicking for initiatives and skills and reflecting in the chat. Also leveling up feels nice though a little limited probably due to free edition?
c. Movement: Foundry's use of WASD was really nice though the drag and drop from Roll20 is fast too.
d. For my DM friend: Map control. I saw the Foundry has a nice demo where the door and fog of war is dynamic which is really cool. Does Roll20 or other VTT have that too? Also I wonder how difficult it is to implement that or is there a automatic way to download or already included?
e. I saw OBR has isometric view which is not necessary but really cool for immersion, do the others have it?
f. Not so important but I'm sure the other VTTs has customizable portraits for players right?
(Sorry for the wall of text lmao)
-
Character creation: So I noticed that most subclasses are locked behind PHB or other rulebooks, do most people buy them to unlock the features or do you guys add them manually? I think our group is ok splitting the cost since we're a group of 5 and make sense if we're playing the campaign long-term wise.
-
Purchases: Which digital copies actually carry over to other VTTs? E.g. If our DM buy the PHB on DndBeyond, can it be used in other VTTs like Roll20 and Foundry? Also same thing if he buy it on Roll20 or Foundry? Follow-up question: Only DM need to purchase the digital books so that the rest of us can use it right? Or do all players need to buy the PHB or other books to use the features?
- Usually the DM is the one who fronts the costs of the books because, unless the players are friends of the DM, the players may rotate in and out of the group.
Since you're friends with the DM, chipping in the cost of the (physical/digital) books is appreciated.
- Roll20 uses its own version of the 5E digital books. If you buy digital books on D&D Beyond they don't carry over to Roll20. The digital books bought on Roll20 is usuable by the players in the campaign while using Roll20.
- Thanks for the reply! Yeah we don't feel right to let him cover the cost especially since we're enjoying the game as players and he already did a lot of prep work upfront lol.
- Ahh ok! So I guess we have to decide which VTT before we invest in the books then? Also which books are considered must-haves? PHB and MM?
Sorry I don't use Roll20 or OBR I can't help you out on #1.
With Roll20 and Foundry, by default you'll have access to the 5E SRD, 2014 Basic Rules, and 2024 Free Rules, which limits the number of sub-classes and feats (the 2024 Free Rules has a limited number of species). To unlock the rest of the races/species and sub-classes you'll need to buy the books.
hi everyone
Moving the discussion over to here, do you have a prospective dm in mind or are you just like, practicing making a character so youre more ready for a possible game in the future?
oh i just want to practice making a character so i can be ready for a game lol
Okay, the reason i ask is because we have very recently gotten a new version of the rules, and the character building process is different compared to the old version. However, due to the recency, theres several dms who are sticking with the old rules, while some have adopted the new ones
So because we dont have a specific ruleset in mind, ill try to dispense more general advice thats applicable to both, with a bias towards the old rules since thats what im more familiar with.
ohh i see
So generally speaking, theres two approaches to character building. One is called bottom up, the other is called top down (borrowed from mtg). Basically what that means is eitther you start with a mechanic from the rules you want to try, and make up the lore and backstory after, OR you start with a backstory and lore, and then pick mechanics that fit.
Since youre new, there likely arent very many mechanics you know of and want to try, so i recommend the second approach, where we pick a story first, then pick mechanics that fit
ok got ittt
might spur up a backstory and lore cause i love to write lol
Yea, and to give some guidance, theres several different schools of magic in dnd. For example, necromancy or illusion. Most wizards specialize in one specific school of magic, but some are more general, or more practical combat focused. Without going into the specifics, it can help to have a school or type of magic your character might excel at or have a passion for.
Also keep in mind that characters usually start at a low level (1 and 3 are common) so a backstory shouldnt have any epic feats accomplished - save those for when you play the game
noteddd
my friend recommended to me the character builder on D&D beyond so i'll try that first 👍
When a spell says their costs halved, rounded down, does that mean it can go to 0 cost if its ot specified minimum of 1?
Can you provide an example?
So my group is play a naruto 5e homebrew, one of the clans state that "Any Taijutsu you cast have their costs halved, rounded down, but the cost of any other jutsu is doubled."
1:
A:roll 20 uses a character mancer for bolth rules but you or the dm needs to have the books and share them. How ever free players are limited to 5/10 players and 1 game with pro gets 3 and another tier gets more.
B:Cos is somewhat well organized with doors and windows set up, how ever sadly unless your a sub you don’t get access to dynamic lighting.
C: if you have the books you should have access to more stuff.
D: the fog of war is free but dynamic lighting is a sub baised system meaning you need to fork money for it.
F: well so long you have a way to make it sure there are plenty of free programs and sites for prorated and token creation
#homebrew would be the places as that seems like the place for it I think
Impossible to answer. It's homebrew using wording and mechanics not found in the normal rules of the game. You would have to ask the original homebrew creator for their intention
Thank you for the reply!
a. What do you mean about the 5/10 players? We do have a sub for Roll20 for now I forgot for what reason haha.
b. This is for Roll20?
c. What are the usual important stuff people usually get the books for? We will probably get them but need to decide which VTT we using first.
d. Foundry has a sub on top of buying the $50 license?
f. Oh I mean like uploading portraits that we find haha
Is co-dming a thing? Like two-three people working together as dms? I’m big on collaboration and have weaknesses in some areas so wondering if this is common 🧐
The wording does imply that
It could be unbalanced, but that’s a separate discussion
Yep, that's exactly what it means
Does wizard have to be in a spacific place (library or somewhere where they can concentrate) to copy spels into a spell book or can they do it in the middle of the landscape if they have gold nececary
There are no rules saying where a wizard must be to copy spells from a scroll or spellbook, just what they need
Thanks
Does anyone have some free time in an hour to help me build a character
im a complete noob
I can help you out
thanks that would be great, want me to dm you?
Sure that works
Because there are a lot of constraints for getting a game running that invidiually are not easy to meet, so they combine in a time consuming way
There's a kinda big disparity between the amount of DMs and Players unfortunately. The best thing to is just have patience and be kind
Yeah coordinating schedules among 4-8 people to play a game for 3-4 hours is hard.
Also not alot of people are from the uk to so its difficult with time zones
You need to
- Find a group of 3-5 ish people
- Who all can commit to a regular activity
- That exists within a niche hobby sphere
- And are available for an extended period each session
- Who all have the same expectations/wants from the game
And that's not even touching on self-inflicted constraints
Self inflicted constraints?
Wanting to play a specific character you've already made, or wanting to play in a specific setting, or use a specific homebrew
I will also note that don't get fixated on timezones - focus on whether you're available at the game time or not.
There are many games with players from all over the world that work because it's about whether they are available to play at that time, not the game timezone.
My points of advice are
- Be persistent
- Spread a wide net
- Be flexible, but....
- Have a clear idea of what expectations you have for the game
- Communicate clearly what you're looking for
No, it can be played by people of almost all ages
Ok
It's an old hobby so, kinda? There's lots of schools that have clubs and stuff though. D&D is for all ages, it's just a matter of finding people
Btw i just absolutely love ur pfp🤣
I should note there are legal and social constraints that make it so many folks don't generally allow minors in their game (that they don't personally know in real life).
Ok fe
I'd suggest checking the game listed in #looking-for-players and #looking-for-community for games that might work in your schedule.
Anything under 18 is generally considered a minor
😮
Crazy
I thought it was sixteen or somthing like dat
Cus like u get job
And can drink
U can drive
Well different regions determine adulthood differently but generally 18 is the age when folks are considered adults.
Oh ok
I think it's relative to the US primarily here yeah.
I would say don't focus on/get hung up on age brackets when joining games and instead just be up front with the DM and they can let you know if the game would be suitable for you or not
Cus i wanna go to disney land to the harrybpotter section
We should nudge things back to D&D Newcomer topic
ie don't go looking for games that say they're explicitly made for people of a certain age range. Instead when applying be candid about everything you're looking for, including the game being suitable for someone your age
So what if everyone doesnt mwntion there ages?
They wont know
Then its not illegal
instead just be up front with the DM and they can let you know if the game would be suitable for you or not
You can say you're "under 18" - that's fine (and good) as it gives folks an idea of what would work as far as appropriate topics in their game, etc.
If you're looking to play with people your own age, communicate that
If you're not bothered about playing with people your own age, communicate that
Idc what age i play with i just wanna game😂
I'd be honest and straight up with people because you want to be able to have a two way connection of honesty and trust. You don't need to give an exact age, but it won't feel nice to the table if you lie about your general age to get into a game
Ok
Then when you find a DM who is promoting a game that sounds interesting to you, you can say "I am X years old, is that gonna be a problem?"
Ight
One of the most important elements to a successful D&D group is good, clear communication and trust.
Or some variation of that such as "I'm under 18" or "I'm a minor" or whatever
Ok
Yeah actually another server got very snippy at me when i tried to ask about it - they only said my character must not be a minor. So i had a 16 year old dragonborn, which is adult.
Would probably be simplest to say “18+”. Its unambigious and easy to interpret everywhere
They were discussing IRL ages not character ages
Ah, some servers conflate the two 😦
Yo I'm looking for a table, preferrably British because of time zones, I'm new but I have a character sheet does anyone have/know anyone with spaces on a table?
You want to check out #find-a-game and read the instructions there
Do you know of a group of moms that are looking for a player?
Not specifically but please use the Looking for Game channels. See #find-a-game for information on how to use them
Soliciting for games outside the LFG channels is off-topic
Ah okie dokie. How often do people get responses?
Or should I ask how quickly do people get responses?
Probably a wide range of possible outcomes of “minutes to months”
I’d suggest looking through #looking-for-players and #looking-for-community for games that sound interesting
Message the posters or use the thread under a game post to indicate your interest.
I figured and thank you 🙏🏻
Also look at other forums, servers, and services like Roll20, Demiplane, and other places
Spread your net wide

im searching for a dungeonmaster
thats okay, the only rules you really need to MEMORIZE are combat rules
the rest you can look up
Ye
Bro I assure you, combat rules are the least of my worries-
#find-a-game is where you need to go
looking up rules is more effective than memorizing me
trust me, even as a dm i dont know the spell dice and i have to look it up everytime
I think I explained it wrong, I dunno how to even start playing so combat isn't my worries
oh
well you start with a friend (or more)
that friend will be the dungeon master
you can always look for one tho in here
and your character sheet
I have to create it before finding a group?
you can create it last minute if you want

I saw that there are different versions of the game, does that not impact the sheet
theres different editions yes
The usual recommendation is to create a practice character sheet. Your DM may or may not require you to remake it once you join, so that's why we call it a practice one.
but most people play 5e 2014 rn but some are making the switch to 2024 rules
Ah 'kay, and generally how many players would be good?
4-7 is the average group size id say
but you can always play with less or more
i for example am dming for less
you should probably look for a dm first lol
So its the looking for dm one then right
also, what about the communities one?
Well thanks anyway, I'll just find it out by trial and error lol
you should also look into looking for players since theres probably some dms there thatd like to play
thats how i did it
Ye, I mean thats fine but I will potentially die by embarassment

O i finished it, i just dunno how to start playing lol
Next step is to find a game and when you are accepted, make your character. You can always make a practice character in the meantime too.
I'm in a campaign right now so I can try to tell you what I know
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
And trust, no worries about being embarrassed. Everyone starts the same and learns about the game in their own time.
Is there anything particular i should be looking for? Also how many times does a game happen each a week usually?
Once a week normally
Are the more frequent ones less popular?
Just depends on what the people choose
Yeah, games will be weekly; biweekly (every other week), or monthly, most commonly.
I'd suggest a new player friendly game. Scheduling depends on the group. Sometimes it's weekly or monthly. It varies a lot because not everyone has schedules that line up perfectly. If you do commit to a game, make sure that it's a date and time that works best for you.
Just depends on the schedule that works best
@harsh fjord has a great resource in their bio on finding a group beyond just the couple tools here.
I want to find a group that's free
I mean i have a lot of time, plus i am pretty interested so i'd want a more frequent one
Then weekly is probably your best bet. #looking-for-players has DMs posting games but you can also check out third party sites like Roll20 for open games. The resource Jeff mentioned in razorwing's bio is really good.
You have found a member already cause I wanted to find a group too
Just a heads up that this channel isn't for game recruitment
What is it for
For roll-20 be careful and make sure your not going into a paid games
for newbies
For new players to learn the game
K
New players asking specific questions about the game
I think I much rather just stick here, its already complicated enough I dont wanna go off into a deeper rabbit hole lool
Some DMs use roll-20 as the vtt since it’s the more popular one to use
Idk what is optimal for play is it point buy or rolling for stats
i roll for stats and then pick out which numbers go to each stat
Depends on the dm, some will restrict it to standard array
Most dnd knowledge I have is from rustage podcasts
I mean what does roll-20 contain
virtual tabletop
for playing online not purely through imagination but also with maps
i play on owlbear with my group, however which site you use is up to you
I am just looking at that resource and boy kinda long
It’s a virtual tabletop, you can run your games, buy books and modules ext
It is long yea. A big reason is that finding a game can take some time so you may need to cast a wide net. There are far more players than DMs so finding a game can take a lot longer than one forum post.
Definitely
Sadly…that’s why I’m initiation operation turn players into DMs! (Joking)
But yeah it can take a while so don’t feel down, sometiems groups don’t mesh well, sometiems you get lucky
I mean to be fair, if like a dm can make a game for 4-5 players then..
i have already been dm brainrotted
Good good join the dark side
Dark? 😭
a dm can make a game for whatever is the number of players they like
We support all new DMs here
Most games are ment for 4 players
Star Wars reference...
4-6 actually
we totally meant the good side
Yes I also have cookies
Shouldnt the dms be the saviors
join the good side we totally do not torture our parties sometimes
I think its for everyone's best interest if i dont, for everyone's sanity
yes but
even though i dont bring out tarrasques to a 1 level party i can and will use a traumatic backstory against you
It’s a joke, dms are rule keepers and story tellers thier goal is to help players not be the roadblock
their goal is to have fun but not at others expense (as is the goal of everyone who plays the funni tabletop game)
I feel like the problem I'm facing is find a dnd group not one Sundays or staturdays
are you busy during those days?
Yup
I feel like the problem i am gonna face is going to be finding a more active group, cause a week for me is like a century, and a month is like a life time. Even a single day of school is torture
You want a campaign everyday
you gotta consider the quality of the game tho
if a dm has to come up with a new thing every single day then its gonna take a toll on the dm and the quality
That is exactly my thinking
I made a campaign once and it was a struggle to come up with things
i struggle coming up with new ideas even when i have a whole week
Ok tbh, i have no idea how it goes or works
I just get inspiration from media like anime or just anything fantasy
i get inspiration from everywhere even the works farthest from fantasy
You have to come up with towns city's character backgrounds place layouts
I got inspiration from air pressure one time
wouldnt that be done before the game?
Nope
basically, imagine youre playing a videogame
you are the player
the whole videogame is the dm
so you just make it up as you go
You wouldn't have the entire campaign done cause you have to shape it around character actions too
well you cant plan for every single outcome and so youve gotta adapt your ideas if the players do something you havent planned for
No
there IS full improv dnd but i dont recommend doing it
You have characters and some basic story ideas but depending on what players do the story has to adapt
yeah
i have the story outline but the players fill it in with their actions
The other problem I face when making a campaign is picking names for things like its so hard to come up with something
use a name generator
They don't always come up with the best names
true, though idk something like town names and stuff and locations dont really have to be shaped around it
i literally came up with a name for a bbeg as i went with a session
"his name is uhhh wavey?"
he was a water genasi btw
That literally depends on the players cause think of a campaign where a player renames and changes the landscape of a town/ becomes the leader of the nation
true, but that wouldnt always be the scenario ig
Exactly my point
the players can set fire to a town
with a single fire bolt or fireball
or even by dropping a torch
I had a thought of letting my players do whatever they want and when the bbeg is revealed it is the reflection of all the bad karma they have accumulated
Hey I watch DnD a lot and would love to get into it but let’s be honest. first things first is get all three books and read and understand the rules am I right ?
first read the free rules and basic rules
Nope

books? what books bro.
You can get stuff free online like the free rules
players handbook dungeon master guide
Their is a monster manual player guide and dm guide
Yeah
monster manual
Yeah
you know i am somewhat of a make stuff up along the way type of person- LMAO
Don’t I really need those to really understand before I get started
nah
Read the free rules, give them a try. If you like it, then the core rules would be the next step.

Hey, quick question: is it possible to combine two-handed weapins with a shield?
Cool right I’ll get on reading that then
Not according to the rules, no.
no
okay, thanks
Baldurs gate 3 has to do me proud even though it sucks at using the real dnd rules
Hiyo
hi im new
I can try I am kinda new myself
I know the basics
ye
First what class or race do you want to be
Have you went through the process described here? https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules/creating-a-character
rogue human
specifically a spanish human
alright, great choice
Now background
wdym
ehh you could set the race to hispanic but i dont think spain exists in dnd
unless the setting youre playing in has spain
ye
Ok look up the backgrounds and choose which one you want
ok
basically backstory
where do i look
You should just make your character speak Spanish but no one understands him
Dnd beyond
dndbeyond or another dnd encyclopedia
ho, (S)he is bilingual, so spanish and english
ty
im just gonna check Dnd beyond rq
Let me guess: your character is called Inigo Montoya and you are after the murderer of your father?
Where did the insight come from
Library!
rogue human with hispanic background? the only other thing a can think of are the three musketeers
Christopher Columbus maybe
who is that
He's from the Princess Bride
yeah fits
assassin subclass but rename the subclass to murderer
Puss in boots would be tabaxi rogue
Who knows
tabaxi rogue with folk hero background
you know, i'd give it a test run but i'd probably get banned for trolling LOL
Yeah
Are you trying to become a dm
no, a player
no they're looking for one
i'd get like -5/5 as a DM
then I think you just look
you know how they like make the things in #looking-for-dm how do i make one
commands
which ones are in #find-a-game
does it like make the format automatically like 1-7 for me? Or do i have to copy it and write it myself
youll be given a private form to fill out the post
Hey what's a good race for charisma?
elf half elf halfling
Tiefling, drow
Honestly, in 2014 rules, any race that gives a bonus to charisma
specifically drow when it comes to elves
And if you're using the optional Tasha's rule that lets you move bonuses around, any race
Play the character you want to play rather than the stats.
Hey I wanna try DMing, where do I start
In 2024 rules stat bonuses aren't tied to species at all
I can't wait for the big switch to 2024
learn how to storytell, improvise and ensure your players have the patience for you to look up rules
can't view the sheet
Read this guide (https://howtogm.guide/) and check out Matt Colville's "Running the Game" YouTube series (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlUk42GiU2guNzWBzxn7hs8MaV7ELLCP_). Those should help get you started.
@odd quest make friends with other GMs to mentor you.
That’s not a thing/race and not helpful in the newcomers channel
yeah commas are important
(got sorted)
Following the rules, you wouldn't have those stats.
The difference between "Let's eat, grandma" and "let's eat grandma"
I meant two seperate things I just didn't put comma
By accident
Mb
how do u play btw

im at the dnd beyond character sheet and what should i put for the gaming set? im new and i dont know what any of them are
also at the lifestyle thing what is gp?
so its like a benefit?
Wdym exactly
like you can select a lifestyle
wretched is nothing, comfortable is 2gp and aristocratic is 10gp minimum
i was thinking it was like an extra starting thing or smth
i really have no idea what it is 😭🙏
It's how much they tend to spend
I think
It's like a reference number. Your character might spend that amount of money when they rest in an inn. You are not beholden to this and I frequently leave that empty.
The lifestyle expense is what your character spends in a single day for things like food and lodging; your basic day to day stuff.
1gp x30 days =30gp a month at a comfortable lifestyle. 10gp x 30days =300gp a month for a wealthy lifestyle (we're talking celebrity status, rich and famous).
For the most part, it's a non-entity in gameplay; but some DMs ask you to track your daily expenses as a means of determining how much coin to add to their treasure hoards.
Plus, the new bastion mechanic has enlargement and expansion costs that may be considered by your DMs as well.
I'm about to start my first seesh on wednesday and I'm so nervous. Any tips to calm down?
player or GM?
Player
You're playing a game - focus on having fun and helping others have fun
I have two bits of advice:
- This is about having fun. Don't worry if you don't know everything or be afraid of saying/doing the wrong thing....
- Act like you've been there before! You're a hero! act the part!
People are too generally self-conscious to be judging others, so try to enjoy it rather than worrying about what others think. It's a game of make-believe, so a little silliness is inevitable.
And sometimes that stupid idea turns out to lead to the funniest events that make everyone laugh and reminisce about that one D&D game session
Be open with them that it'll be your first session. I will almost guarantee that somebody at the table will try to help be supportive with what and how.

How do u use the legs chat
Read #find-a-game carefully - you communicate in the threads.
To post a LFG post you use the bott commands (again read #find-a-game carefully)
@jaunty beacon there are several rogue archetypes that fit that model
oh ok ill have a look online and see what i like ty
I recommend using something like a spy background and thief for an investigator
Finding a dnd group is the hardest challenge to play dnd
Just do what I did, put flyers up at your local college, library, and game store
That's gotta be so embarrassing to fo though
Nope, I'm proud to let my geek flag fly
Roll20 for me
Either set up an email for contact info or be bold and post your phone number
Do not actually post your phone number
Hello! I've been wanting to get into DnD for a while. Are there any other books, outside of the players handbook, that are a must have?
I suggest starting with the free basic rules first before investing in books.
But if you want more player options beyond what's available in the Players Handbook, consider Xanathars Guide to Everything and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything.
If you are a DM then the Monster Manual and Dungeon Master's Guidebook can be useful.
The monster manual, then the dungeon master's guide
I recommend the 2014 rules version
thank you! I was looking on amazon at the books and they're pretty expensive. So I wanted some guidance before I bought any lol
eBay is your friend, and you might see about seeking out a play group that might have books you can use until then
yo can i send you my character sheet and u tell me what u think?
have you tried posting a link to it in #character-discussion ? might get more feedback
No, I already have 5 different RPG campaigns and a larp. My brain cannot hold more sheet numbers
Hi everyone 👋😁
I also recommend the excellent starter module: Lost mine of phandelver.
Lots of good little tips for first-time DM's.
(And it's free, I think)
Was free - it's no longer available to claim
But there are some free adventures on DnDBeyond and DMsGuild one can use
?tag ddb claim
The following items on D&D Beyond can be claimed at no cost.
Ah, that sucks. Still an excellent module. I started with Dragon of Icespire Peak, and whilst it's also a module bundled with a starter kit, I don't think it's as good for first time players.

I guess Drow , Shadar-Kai , Wood Elves would be the best for stealth
I have a Question say if i was a rouge fighting a Magical person with a wand and it dies can i steal the wand and use it
You could certainly pick up the wand, but it's not going to help much unless you have wizarding skills¹ yourself.
-# 1 meaning a spellcasting class that can use arcane foci
Multiclassing would be the big one
You can decide to multiclass whenever you level up. You'd simply gain the level in the new class. Check here for the exact rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules/creating-a-character#Multiclassing
Hello everyone
Not exactly sure if it’s a bad idea but after about 1/3rd of my first ever DnD campaign as a player I have now been trying to write a campaign and DM as a player with about a year of playing experience
If you're excited about it, go for it. I generally don't advise doing that though, as writing your own campaign is one of the most complex things you could be doing as a DM.
still trying to understand what everybody say
Alright, but which one is good when using it in the dark?
1st 2
Oh thank you
Guys, please help
So I'm super new to dnd, no one I know knows how how play dnd, and I'm trying to dm for some of my friends who also know nothing about how to play and are just into dnd in general.
So like, can they be anything anything? Because my friend wants to be a frog wizard resting on a body less hand levitating in the air like its a magic carpet and knows only to generate cheese using magic.
Another one wants to be a flower
A sentient one
And do I need a dnd setup or can I just use paper pencils imagination and dice bullsh1ttery
You can just say "no"
You have no obligation to cater to stuff you feel will make the game difficult to run
There's no such thing as a "D&D setup", all you really need are the rules, dice, pens/pencils, and character sheets
the thing you should probybly try to convey is that these whacky ideas are fuunny in the moment, but make things complicated really quick, especially if they don´t know how to play in the first place
Ahhh ok ok
I'm trying to find their specific wording, but an AL GM that I see around has an excellent initial statement of their expectations regarding characters. Once I can spot it, I'll paste here with appropriate credit.
True but I don't want them to feel sad lol
Especially since we kinda decided to not do it too seriously and just go by "Hey, it sounds logical so why not"
Where can I find a game with other new players playing for the first time?
I remember there's a chat thingy for that in this server
Here's the thing, D&D is a game built around limitations. In fact that's what makes it a game and not just freeform collaborative storytelling
"not taking it too seriously" doesn't equal "I have to say everything goes"
Oh-
Well, I'll talk to them about it tomorrow, and get them to actually choose a class lol
Read through #looking-for-players. Maybe there's something there!
#find-a-game has information about using the server's Looking for Game/Group channels.
Here's the statement of GM limitations, courtesy of somebody not obviously in this server: "Since this adventure takes place in a fantasy realm, please bring fantasy characters and refrain from cartoons, anime, aliens, robots, children, pop culture or historical figures. If you aren't sure - just ask. Thx"
Feels straightforward to me.
This is my fault for not clarifying but I meant that I am a player and want to play with other new players
Yes, DMs advertise their games in #looking-for-players. You could post your own ad as a player in #looking-for-dm, but I suspect other players don't look at that channel.
Are there other DND servers that I can find a game in?
A bunch. I have a guide of resources to find a game/group in my bio.
teach them the rules first
Hi all, so myself, my partner and her sister, our best friend have been all slowly learning to play DND in our campaign (my partner tried her hand at Dungeon Mastering) problem is the campaign she used was short, so we defeated the main boss Manticore....the 3 of us are level 6.
My question is would it be better to start fresh with new characters or continue with the current ones in a new campaign???
That's up to you all. There's no objective answer here.
Maybe break it down into a pro/con list? Because there are definite advantages and disadvantages no matter the choice made.
Hey so I’m also pretty new in dnd but I just have a question,
Does age matter in dnd?
Like I just can’t find people who want to play with young people who are new to dnd
People have legit concerns about playing with minors, though public tabletop offerings like through a school club, library, or game store might be a good route.
Well I’m really socially awkward so I don’t rlly don’t go that much to those places (and we don’t have school clubs here)
Her own homebrew adventure, or Dragon of icespire Peak?
There's no "rules" about who you can or cannot play D&D with, but many people will have preferences to make sure everyone at the table is comfortable. Its fairly common to find games either specifically for minors or specifically asking that minors do not join, just to ensure everyone's comfort and safety
Yeah ill just keep waiting till I can find a campaign I can join
best of luck
Thank you,
DND just seems fun to play in general,
and like 2 friends of mine play it too with each their own party
So that’s why I wanna get into dnd
Best option might be to see if one of those friends could help arrange an extra spot with the group they're playing in.
Yeah but I don’t wanna interrupt their campaign yk?
Oh cool tyty
Good morning everyone!
Yo guys mind helping me out with the characters?
There's over 200,000 users on this server. I'd recommend not trying to ping them all.
What do you need help with, regarding character building?
so i just made a human ranger character and don't know what to do next, any suggestion?

If you have read up on all the rules and you feel ready to play, you can start searching for a game. To get your search started for online games through this server, you can check on #find-a-game .
