Out of curiosity, are online games pretty much ubiquitous now? I haven't followed the scene since I just had friends to play with in college and such. I'd assume they are given that there's a LFG feature here
When I was playing you'd either just have friends that were into it or go to a local game shop
Plenty of people only play online, so yes, pretty common.
They're pretty common. I play 3 online games and 1 in person every other week.
Nifty
The pandemic made it rather the new normal now.
Plus, there are just so many resources to play online
Oh shoot I guess so huh
VTTs, live play, and communication tools like Discord all worked together, alongside lockdowns, to put online play into a better position than ever.
Makes sense. Buncha addicts that can't get their weekly sessions in, that'll take the scene online real quick. That's cool
Yeah, Ive only ever played 5e virtually, and I find it hard to imagine going fully analogue. Even if I went to in person, I'd want to rely on a lot of tools from my VTT
3D VTTs make me not want to bother with table games
And if it weren't for VTTs I never would've gotten to start playing.
so how does one get into dnd?
?new is a good place to start
- Learn the basics and enjoy a short adventure with our quick introductory demo.
- The Basic Rules are available at no cost and cover everything you need to know to play.
- For bite-sized video explanations, check out Critical Role's Handbooker Helper series.
- Create a character digitally on D&D Beyond or print a character sheet to fill out by hand.
- Check out #find-a-game to find a group to join.
I got into it at first by watching live games played. Acquisitions Incorporated was first, but others like Critical Role, NPC D&D etc all set pretty cool examples of what's possible.
Then read basic rules, created a character on D&DBeyond, and got some friends together to play.
i mean ive watched some dnd but just never found how to find a group and etc
Bottom part of that bot post where it says "Where do I start?"
working on it rn
There's a channel here for finding a pickup group. Look for one for newer players so you're all in the same boat
what is with this "have a parent or guardian register with consentcheq"?
Where are you seeing that?
probably normal internet things where you do have to eb a certain age to register and use. Like discord is 13+
just confused because this doesnt makes sense wont let me make a account with wizards under the dnd beyond from the discord bot
Errrr, did it ask you your date of birth before sending you there?
yes and i put a date thats at least 20+
And…is that the truth?
yes
Then i dont see why you’d have any problems
It's just that site seems to exist to comply with US legislation about protecting information from under 13 year olds, so if that applies to you, you shouldn't be on discord
Strange...
Try signing up for a WotC account normally and see if it happens again?
ugn this is giving me a headache
try to login with wizards and get "Log In with your Wizards Account
Admin client for backend services will receive access to:
Your email address"
#ddb-support might be best
We should maybe move this over to #ddb-support as it has drifted off topic
is there a race thats like a fish person/ naga
Hi
You can look at the races here and see if something fits what you're looking for: https://www.dndbeyond.com/races
Hello, welcome in
Hii
weclome
is there any seasoned dm that could hop in a call and help me learn to be a dm. me and me group of friends are going to be playing for our very first time and I've volunteered to be dm but don't know exactly what to and not to do. can anyone help?
I can't offer that kind of support but I can point you to #dm-discussion and say "ask away!" and fellow DMs would be glad to share their tips and tricks.
ok thank you
So how do I get started in dnd?
Like right off the bat?

Read the free basic rules, learn how to create a character, then find a group to play with.
I made a character while back
I would start by reading the basic rules linked above, especially the first four chapters on character creation
oh wow that's alot to digest
if you're already set on a class/race for your character, you only need to read the stuff relevant to your current choice in chapters 2/3 which will cut down on your reading by a fair margin
I MIGHT need to make a new one-
It's a monk barbarian mix for some reason
You can multi class as different things like I am a Fighter Wizard
Yeah but I wouldn’t recommend doing a multiclass for your first time playing
Eldritch knight fighter: am I a joke to you?
Yes triton
is there anyone looking for players ? i just made my character

Is there a sort of melee hand to hand combat sort of class?
Yup! Check out the Monk!
Fighter, barbarian, rogue, paladin, ranger, cleric, monk
You can achieve it other ways, but that's the classic.
I've never played before, or made a character or anything, how do I prompt the bot to help me out

Do I have to give my character a backstory and stuff?
some tables encourage it as it can help the DM figure out how you ended up in the party as well as create hooks for your character; but not all tables require it
Ah
As far as playing well with others is concerned, should I be disregard certain content in character creation? Also what's the typical method for leveling-up?
hi new to this just looking to see if anyone is willing to teach me the ropes of dnd and can you play it on discord.

read this stuff and watch these vids that's what I'm doing rn, I'm also new
thank you goat
Not sure what you’re asking in the first part here…
But there’s basically two ways to level up. Which you use is up to your DM.
If you’re using experience points, you gain XP most commonly by defeating monsters.
Once your total earned hits certain thresholds, you level up.
Alternatively (and possibly more commonly), you might use milestone leveling.
OK I'm making a character online rn with beyond rather than the sheet, so It's asking me to select some stuff that seems dependent on the DM
The DM will simply tell you when to level up, usually when you accomplish major tasks in the story.
If you don’t have a DM yet, I’d leave that whole page at the defaults.
thank you, I'll just leave much of it blank for the time being while I continue to read into the rules
When you get to ability scores, I’d suggest sticking with standard array or point buy as well.
If your DM wants you to roll, they’ll have you do that later.
Can you have a pet in D&D? If so how do you acquire it?
That would be very much dependent on your DM. But Ranger Beastmaster's can have a beast companion.
Okay. Im just starting so I was reading over the rule book and that question popped in my head.
What's VTT? ,:o
It depends how strong of a “pet” you want.
Options range from robots who fight along you to decorative only
Virtual table top, one tool for playing online
oooooh!!! ty :D
Can I have a dragon as a pet? Cause something I looked up said that if I came across an egg or an abandoned baby animal I could have it as a pet.
Again check with your DM. We can't say yes or no. Only your DM can allow it.
Generally though full dragons are not possible as they are sentient creatures who generally view themselves as no one's pet.
That is mostly up to your DM - who would control whether you happen across such an egg to begin with
If it’s something that wont have any mechanical impact on the game aside from role play, thats easy
But yeah very dependent on your DM and the type of game you're playing.
If the intent is a controlled dragon thats a steeper challenge
Okay. Well, if I had a DM i would do that. I am asking just to get a handle on things.
There is a ranger subclass called Drakewarden that will, eventually, have a dragon companion that can do stuff
It is a part of the subclass and has rules for what it can or cannot do
Okay thank you for the help both of you.
Oh it seems I'll have to make a new application for finding a game o.o
Posts are cleared out 7 days after you post.
I see I see, I'll make another one tomorrow
Hi, i'm new, i'm interested in trying dnd, i never played, don't know the rules 🥲 where should i start?
I'm knew here too and I've read up about dnd but not sure about rules and all that either but would really like to play

that might be a dumb question but can you play it online, i see people starting campains with friends they know irl, no one i know is intrested in dnd 🥲 so is there a way to play with people online?
Yes. There are many ways to find groups online whether it is through a discord server like this, on sites like dndbeyond, or other social media. A number of tools exist to make playing online easy and accessible (voice call, pdf character sheets and sites to manage them, VTT's, etc)
There’s a good article here that covers some popular options for playing online.

Is it easy to play over discord without roll20
Me and my cousin are looking for a free to play game. We just started last month and we would like to play with a group
#find-a-game has all the info you need if looking here
You can also find games on roll20 Reddit Facebook etc or IRL games at your LGS
Yes, roll20 is free and quite easy to use. Typically the dm will use the ordinary dnd character sheets. However, the interface is a bit janky particularly as you advance in level.
Hi^^
So uh i got a question, i joined a few sessions of dnd and Ive started knowing the basics
Am i qualified to be a dm?
There are no qualifications needed to be a DM
Cuz i wanna host one
If your hosting on friday or Saturday let me know^^
If DM'ing sounds fun to you, go try it!
Oh thank godd. I was rlly worried for dat TT
I would recommend checking out #dm-discussion where you can pick the braisn of other DMs.
If folks are looking for a game - in channel here is not appropriate. Please use the #looking-for channels.
Well ill start alotting my schedule once ive finished dis one-shot im making
See #find-a-game for more information on how to use the #looking for channels.
Ill notify u once im done~
Question i want to play warlock and it's asking me to pick Otherworldly patrons, is it posable to pick Patron: The Raven Queen?
Ask dm, they can help
Are you looking for the Raven Queen for flavor, or are you referring to the UA/unofficial Raven Queen subclass?
Want to use Raven Queen as my warlock patron
looks like it would be a spin on hexblade if im looking right
Here's the beauty with DnD: if you can convince your DM, any warlock subclass could reasonably have the Raven Queen as your patron!
This
Roll Nat 20 persuasion and youll be golden
no need for persuasion or convincing. Just talk to them lol
Obviously some are more easy to adapt: Celestial or Hexblade stand out more than others, but with a flexible DM anything is possible
people act like they gotta get one over on the dm, but like it's a chance to open a conversation. D&D is, at its core, a game about collaboration.
You can honestly just "Hey dm, i wanna have a raven queen patron for my Hexblade Warlock, can I?"
And 90% of the time it will work
well thank you all for the help i will speak with my dm to 🙂
Be like me, I practically write 2000 words a week to my dm about my plans
As long as the strange entity is reasonable, it should be fine
Heck, someone can probably get away with making a rotten banana demon their patron
there are plenty of people here that have been playing for many years. Was there something you needed help with
in general im new to dnd
and i want someone to teach me the basics at least cuz the games look intreasting
i used to know someone who loved it so much and i wanna learn it now
is it that complicated?
hmmm fair
Its that theres many specific rulings

the reviews are very complicated
nearly all of them are genarly mixed opinions
any recomendations?
It sounds like you're looking for DnD video games, is that right?
not really
i looked for a video game cuz i dont have friends to play with irl
and its not common here form where im from
but if there's any other way to play it online i'd be happy to play it
we have channels here to help you find online games. #find-a-game

ty so much i appreciate it
Xanathers Everything or Tashas Cauldron as a nice addon to the handbook to help give more options, chouces when class, character making???
depends on what you are looking for
If you had to choose between the two, I'd say they're fairly similar.
Xanathar's has more subclasses (I believe), but Tasha's has an entire extra class: the Artificer
xanathars has some new subclasses and some optional rules. It's defining feature (at least for me) are the amount of tables to help you with various things. Some of my favorite are the druid wild shape tables and backstory tables
tashas has a lot more rules updates than xanathars and as was mentioned includes a whole new class as well as some (reprinted I believe) subclasses.
Both are great!
they are! They both offer something different!
get both
😂 I have to wait 3 more days before I can apply
probably a warm take, if you are just looking for the player options and not the dm tools, purchase just those parts of the book on d&d beyond. It's not necessary to get the whole book just for the player options
Whatever you spend on those counts toward the cost of the book itself, too, in case you decide to get the rest later.
Hello, can i cast preserve life on a downed unit that does saving throws?
Yes!
In addition, it will stabalize them (no more death throws). And the HP they gain starts at 0 HP, regardless of how much damage they took previously (which some groups get wrong).
@mortal garden thanks!
Ok so they are similar in ways but then both have something the other doesnt. Im leaning towards getting her the Tashas cauldron book to supplement her handbook......
the rules are so much to understand
but i feel like i'll get the hang of it by playing a couple of games
i might be rough at the begining but i'll get around it
Good luck
They are quite simple
it been 2 hours of me reading the rules and watching videos
and tbh im kinda slow sometimes
i learn faster through experience so just reading and watching is getting me nowhere
Unfortunately i think my partmer would prefer a physical book to read, reference too
@lyric fjord I'll message you something
what is it
To be honest, you may have trouble finding a group to join because there are more players than DMs (and not all DMs are willing to take on new players). Help your future DM by learning as much as you can because they're busy as it is.
Hey! I`m new to dnd,I dunno if anyone can helpme with how to play and how do I find a game?

is there a way i can find a dnd group for my age gap?
You could post looking for a group in a specific age range, or you could look through the groups that are advertising and see if you can find one that fits your needs. Either way, check out #find-a-game !
Also, check out local options if you have them: library programming, school clubs, and/or game stores.
i am waiting on my cool down
Just keep in mind that posting identifying information, such as your exact age, is against server rules. But posting things like a specific range, or "no minors" or whatever is allowed
thats also a good idea
at that point it really boils down to what you think would be more useful. Idk how others feel but I really do feel like they are primarily dm books with some player facing content
No it's a feature that is seperate from your spell casting ability
hey im wondering if anyone is down to play

Get the starter set and get dnd beyond

I’m a little overwhelmed.
If you have any specific questions feel free to ask. Also don’t feel like you have to memorize the rules / but do have a feel for the general game mechanics and how your character works.
Take a deep breath.
What by?
I’m new to everything? My friends said it’s fun and I’m trying to make a character so that I can play with them.
I've been trying to run a campaign for a while now and everytime I have a day marked out, somebody can't come in and it screws it up. I'm so fed up. Is anyone up for a DnD one shot in like 10 or 20 min? It could turn into the campaign if things go well but I honestly kinda just want to practice dming
Dnd beyond will be your best friend
I hope so..
aye, DnD newcomer here! if you could sum up the first place to start with joining/being involved in a DnD campaign, what would it be?
The #find-a-game channels here
I just did, thnx hun
Making a character on dnd beyond! Then finding a group, whether it be here or with your friends
You could join mine if you'd like as well🙂
Does starting equipment matter that much or is it more of a dm's choice to include it or not? Might be a dumb question haha
It’s what you start with it matters a decent bit
Yes and no, it's important in the sense that you may end up needing those items, but the dm can ultimately choose whether or not to Include these sorts of things
Starting equipment is important in that it is what you need to at least begin your adventure. A DM can always alter this by either giving a gold amount for you to purchase gear with or give you their own list of equipment you start with
Sweet cheers guys 👍

Hello everyone! How is everyone's day?
Starting equipment is always important and do equipment not gold
Huzzah we managed to kill the bugbear at the beginning of Phandelver. Ngl some dice rolls were fudged to keep my daughter from watching her Elsa character get turned into some chunky salsa and never playing again. But oh well!
As long as everyone is having fun you’re winning D&D
What’s a good way to earn gold as a Wizard for buying and copying spells?
Literally the most important part about dnd
Adventuring, crafting and selling goods, —crime—
What should I be crafting? My DM doesn’t realize how much gold is required for copying spells so the adventuring aspect is a bit lackluster on gold
Mmm, I’d suggest talking with your DM on that to help with the issue of the cost for copying found spells.
I am so confused about 90% of the things here lol
What’s one specific thing you have questions about?

Hey there, so i'm new in DnD, and i wanted to double check if my character sheet is good enough, because i don't know too well what i'm doing. Since it's the first time playing for all the Group i'm playing with (including DM) we're starting with a... kind of high level (9-15) to learn how to play safely(?)
Hi! You can share the sheet here if you like.
I'd tell your DM that's a bad idea. Yes, there's a problem with level 1 characters dying too easily, but the bigger problem is that you'll struggle to learn under the weight of all the different character options.
Level 1 is the best place to start, with levelling up quickly. Level 3 is also a popular choice once you know the rules. Starting at level 9 is not recommended.
Maybe your DM should join the discord and chat in #dm-discussion , people are happy to help first time DMs
Alright... lemme notify the group
If you never played D&D before I would recommend you start with an adventure with level 1 PCs. You're going to be overwhelmed with choices of class/sub-class features, feats, and spells.
Ahoy! Welcome, and well done taking on the task of DMing
I'm kinda excited to present my players the story I've created
Tell the story scale it for lv 1
You need to adjust for your players
Not make it harder for them
hi everyone im new to d&d and i just made my first character and backgroudn stroy ! i wish to share with you all :d sorry for enlgish
Go to #character-discussion
👍👍
I need to head off soon, but my main tips for avoiding level 1 PC death:
- find a pretext for casting Aid on the party. I had them come across a harvest festival where the cleric doing blessings had that effect. It gives them some extra HP while also encouraging them to press on and not take too many rests
- pull your punches. You aren't obliged to use the monsters full stat sheet. My players fought goblins, and their ability to disengage can be very powerful. Not using that made the fight more level 1 scale while also creating some enemy diversity later when goblins started doing it.
- level them up fast. Level 2 after their first fight, level 3 after the first dungeon/encounter chain. It's enough to give them the tutorial they need, while bringing their character abilities online quick
If your story is good, it will only be made more engaging by frequent, powerful level-ups. As you go on, each level up feels less and less impressive, with only some sparse features for some classes really being exciting.
The character sheet is in spanish, if you want i can translate the thing (where can i send it?)
Oh might as well move to a different channel
Please dont make players level up mid session :(
why not?
Hi everyone, I'm new here and new to dnd. I'm looking to get into the game and want to play some campaigns/adventures over homebrew content to get into dnd and dont have irl friends interested. Would like to try roll20 as it looks fun but struggling to find people who actually play other than homebrew, anyone in this server willing to let a new player join and teach them a few things on the go? I have played a game at my local game store but its only once a week for a couple hours and would like to play more frequently, any advice appreciated
It cuts off the momentum of the game
Everyone takes 5 minutes to just change their sheet and the casters take spells
We have the #find-a-game channels just for finding games, I would recommend making a post in #750812887697588356 but also replying to posts in the threads under them in #looking-for-players

Thank you I will be sure to check it out, didnt know it was so difficult to find a group
How do I get access to looking for players chanel?
Go to Channels & Roles at the top-left corner of your Discord app.
Hey hey
Ahoy ahoy! Welcome
hows it going?
Quite fine! Are you new, need any help getting started?
found it thanks
Ive been playing in a campaign for the first time for a few months now, Id love some more info on the changeling race, if you know much about them, its my current character, and im just wondering how I can best utilize it, all the party knows is I have some sort of secret amulet (amulet of mimicry) which mainly allows me to mimic others voices,
its a changeling Cleric, war domain, who is chaotically good
Fair question, best to go to #character-discussion
Hi how’s it going, I’m interested in playing what do I need to get started for online games?

As a player, your DM will probably already select a platform for it, so you'll be going along with what they selected. However, if you decide you and your friends want to set up a game, it would be worth having further discussions later to get you appraised of the specific options.
Is there recommended books to start off with?
DnD Beyond has all the basic rules for free, but if you're interested in expanding your knowledge, I'd start with the Player's Handbook. From there, Tasha's Cauldron or Xanathar's Guide are both great options!
Awesome thank you
Hey, I'm looking to post in looking-for DM, and I see the command in the find a game channel. however, clicking the command pulls the form up as a message in that channel and not the looking for DM channel. is this normal? will it send to the correct channel once it's filled out and sent?
As long as you’ve clicked the correct command, it’ll post to the appropriate channel.
thank you
Hey double checking rules on usage of the Shield spell. Says casts on reaction when you take a take or get hit by magic missile. To clarify, the reaction doesn't need to be delcared in advance or anything like that, right? You don't need to specifically delcare it during your turn? Like basically when you get hit, you can opt to burn a spell slot to get the effect?
Yeah, someone is going to hit you not on your turn, and you cast Shield so they don't. Reactions can happen on your turn, but typically they happen not on your turn.
Hi I'm Tmonster18 I am a newcomer to DND and play Fire emblem often, been trying to learn the game and trying to find people to play with

so interesting question, are there shamans as a class in this game?
Nope
No but you could play one with a few classes such as Druid cleric bard
There are druids, sorcerers, wizards, clerics, bards, monks, warlocks, and paladins
ah I see

Pick the aspects of a shaman that you like a find a class that fits
I’d recommend what Enoki just said
got it
If you have any questions feel free to ask
Hi- I'm very new to dnd but i've been reading up on the rules and creating a character for the past few days.
Is it recommended to join multiple campaigns? One of my friends wants to start one but I also kinda wanna find one here...
Whatever class you pick, you can always just call yourself a shaman anyway.
That’s up to you! Plenty of people join multiple campaigns. Plenty don’t.
Up to you
You can have many characters and participate in many campaigns (usually not with the same character)
I like doing multiple campaigns simply so I get more practice, but for a rookie, I recommend one
If you do multiple, its alot of micromanaging and making sure you show up at every session
okay, thanks 😅
Any other questions?
Noooo, that was really it
I wish you luck on your first campaign! Its always the most exciting
Your initiation into the cult
thank you 💀
Feel free to ask us if you have any other questions! I specialize mostly in helping with characters and abilities
ok so i’m already in a campaign but i want to join another one, how do you kno what kind of adventure you’re going to have?
Usually when you look for a group, the DM sometimes will tell you what the campaign is about first
You can also just ask questions to help clarify what you're in for!
and there’s literally anything the campaign can be right?
That really depends on the DM and group
The rules and design are limitations, but even those can be ignored (with varying degrees of success).
hi im looking for some people to play with me and a friend

@ivory dragon good luck
Thanks
Anybody have advice on how i can play my first game? I might wanna try to dm to start
I played once years ago, but my dm purposely killed us so its been years since i came back.
That's a great idea! Have you checked out the free starter adventure, lost mines of Phandelver, which is geared for new DMs?
I have not
It was the adventure from the original starter set, and it's got a little bit of everything. It's a level 1-5, so if you want something shorter, the newer starter set has dragon of Stormwreck isle which is a 1-3 adventure.
Ill have to sign up for dndbeyond then!

I REALLY WANNA MAKE AN HOMEBREW explosion magic that's from Konosuba
#homebrew awaits your ideas (and will likely provide suggestions on how to make it happen in a way that fits D&D mechanics and balance)
When u are dming and your players are way too focused on combat should I just let the party die or give them a chance?
Cause I just started dming and my players are a bit cuckoo for killing
As in murder-hoboing?
If they’re indiscriminately murdering everything in the game and it’s not the kind of game you want to run then you can tell them that out of game.
Ok thx
It not that bad it’s just if there is a enemy the refuse to stealth check and just blindly run into battle
Usually resulting in someone having to do death saving throws
Ahhh okay.
Have y’all discussed the possibility of character death and what that means at your table?
Yes
Are they cool with it or have y’all agreed on something else?
They say if they die it’s okay and we can restart with a different adventure
Or you can always keep going with that adventure and a new character
We have discussed that but I won’t allow it
Oh you don’t have to pick up and prep another adventure if you don’t want to. You can also have them make new characters and just pick up where y’all left off. Or restart the whole thing.
Then they won’t learn from mistakes
Death should be a pretty big learning experience
Also punishing them in game isn’t a good idea, if there’s issues talk to them about it out of the game
Yeah there is a human monk, a elf ranger, and a dwarf paladin and the paladin is constantly unconscious having to do dst
If you’re cool with losing that prep or having to buy/write new adventures then go for it. Tho “learning from their mistakes” sounds kind of odd to me considering this is a collaborative role-playing game.
Don’t do more work than you have to!
Mk
Also what’s a good adventure for after phandelver
I was going to do out of the abyss
There’s actually a new Phandelver book being published soon that continues that story.
Oh
Tho I think LMoP is included as part of said adventure in the book.
Ok TY
I have a question is it possible to play dnd on your phone I don't have my computer charger yet so I'm just curious
D&D is a social collaborative RPG game and doesn't really have a "single person mobile play" version if that's what you're asking. DnDBeyond has a mobile app for character sheets (with digital dice rolling) so you could play with that - but again the expectation is you're at a table (physical or virtual) playing with others.
A Rogue can start off with 4d4 gold instead of equipment, does that mean I can end up only getting 4 gold?
Oh so the lowest possible is 40
Yeah
Kind of a dumb question, but can you change your class role?
In most circumstances you can’t change your class after first level but you can multiclass
With multiclassing, basically when you level up you can choose to gain a level in a new class rather than you existing class
A DM might allow you to reclass but that's generally not typical.
Honestly ive never thought about it but something that lets you respec somehow might be cool as a dm to introduce to a campaign
Hey so I just started getting into dnd, it seems like so much research has to be done before playing it’s kinda overwhelming, is it really so complicated? I hope I don’t sound ignorant here. I can understand the pros like critical role might make it look easy but woah 😳
I guess my question is: is this a game I could learn by playing or is it necessary to do the research
You should start by reading the very basics but you don’t need to memorise much at all
Also keep in mind that the people who do critical role are professional actors
It's good to skim over the rules (see pinned message here in channel) but you will learn lots through playing. Also watching others play (e.g. see videos/livestreams of folks playing D&D - although do note that many of these are oriented towards entertainment first and not "teach D&D the correct rules-as-written way").
Alrighty thank you yall that’s very comforting haha I was nervous that I’d be bumbling over all the rules tryna play lol
I've been playing this game for a while and I still mess things up (as player and as a DM) - but if you focus on having fun with your friends, you'll do just fine!
I've never rolled a dice. I watched my godfather play every weekend for hours. He unfortunately passed away from a sudden heart attack. I'd really love to learn how this game works and possibly play a game and meet a group one day for some good times. Will bring the dabs always.
Any helpful pointers as to how to start what books should I invest in. I looked up dnd books and a whole library showed up.

Ohh wow thank you I have some evening reading now thank you very much!
My first dnd game and Everyone hated me and were rude and excluded me
😨
I waited 457 days for this
What was the reason?
Apparently I was talking over them. They keep excluding my character- and one of them hated me kept asking the DM To kick me and they said they felt bad and then everyone else said I was 50/50 I cried-
And also because I had some violence which there wasn't that much I did
Now I have a reason to never play dnd again
I’m sorry that happened, but clearly they weren’t a good group for you. Doesn’t mean you can’t find other folks who’d be happy to have you. A major piece of good D&D is compatibility.
Time for another time of wasting time again
I shall, I'll remind you if i hit the 1k day mark
There’s not just this server to find games roll20 Reddit Facebook IRL games other discords etc etc spread your net wide
Mcdm, slyflourish, and critical role have good discords for finding games tbh
Liveplay Twitch streamers usually have their own discord with people dying to get games together
Maybe you should look for oneshots or really short adventures firts, to find out what playstyle and sort of game fits you best.
Also remember that it is a group of ppl playing together, so try to avoid doing solo, "main character" stuff unrelated to what the rest of the party wants to do
I'm sorry
Don't let one experience ruin it
Yeah that really sounds rough. What were you playing as if you don't mind me asking?
does anyone know how some one like me (never played dnd before) wants to get into / how to go about it

What do you mean by this
really the dm is the one who needs to know the rules! and tbh i'm a dm who doesn't know most of them off by heart. what is best is if you can join a group with either a) a bunch of experienced players who will help you in the early period; or b) be part of a group with no experience and all learn together!
I have been dming since May so I’m very new to it
And one of my players has never played dnd so
if i cast magic missile do i have to make an attack roll or what how does it work im really confused
???
so only sum spells need attack rolls ? wtf
Magic missile is a rare spell in that it automatically hits.
No roll to hit, no saving throw. It just hits.

I have problem of paying attention and for couple of sessions I tried to listen as much as I could but I didn't feel engaging
I know this is my problem because other players are working/progressing the game fine except me
What can I do in this situation?
Does this happen in other areas or strictly with D&D?
Take notes actively, represent chaos, do things for interactions
All of that will make it easier to pay attention to. Give yourself a reason to be in character.
Does escape room count? Because I also don't do good with it either
How do you pay attention in other settings? I’d try to identify the root of the problem before trying to propose solutions.
@viscid stirrup good luck
If you need but more answer then I do believe when it's about group related like escape room or presentation then no I'm not that good at paying attention, tho strangely, when i memorized the part for presentation and after student finished her part and it was my turn to continue the rest, the professor did say the way I speak and my body language was good enough to give us a score because of that
I'm mainly good at talking to one person 1v1 but the moment it becomes 1v2 and I no longer able to hold control or lead the conversation anymore (this is in general)
Maybe you should try to play one-on-one D&D? I also like the above suggestion to take notes while playing as it would compel you to listen to what’s happening.
Hmm, then what should I do with current session I'm having with DM irl?
Try the note-taking thing, see if that makes a difference. Look up other attention-focusing techniques. If nothing sticks, maybe you leave the group.
excuse me for a sec, but @harsh fjord, your saying that you recommend i play solo?
No I think he is suggesting me to try solo dnd
No, this was in reference to sly’s situation.
And there’s a difference between solo D&D and duet.
Because I have lack of attention problem and I'm good at 1v1 rather than group of people
well im like you too, i dont like groups i like playing alo9ne
alone
and sorry for intruding
I think playing virtually any tabletop RPG solo loses out on one of the major benefits of the game. But playing solo is a possibility, so I think it’s worth letting people know it’s an option.
Nah, it helps knows that I'm not the only one with that issue
but theres one problem, how CAN you be the dm AND the player?
If I do badly the group/friends/family will instead let me do the small stuff because I wasn't good at stuff
Check out this video on solo D&D. It explains it more effectively than I could: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2nVilB8QeY
thanks
Solo gaming is more akin to the "Choose Your Own Adventure" type of game than a typical D&D session with a DM and one more players.
I plan to be the DM but after how I was dealing with sessions and and all of that makes me question bit
alright, but can i do it online like roll20 or do i HAVE to buy dnd
Especially because I DID try to DM but both player and DM told me I wasn't able to control the situation from that one session
If you’re playing solo, you don’t need much aside from dice, a notebook, and and maybe a prompt/campaign (though you can make that up it you like).
well i never actually played dnd i thought you had to have a group
You have to have at least couple of people max of 3 (1dm and 2 players)
so your saying i can do both because im confused right now?
Watch the video. Then ask questions.
honestly my friends dont want to play dnd so i was never able to play
alright sorry
Same, til I got lucky finding irl DM but now I don't know because I can tell he feels upset of me
Ultimately, there are lots of ways to play D&D. Some are more common than others, but hopefully there’s a way that works for you, whoever you are and whatever your preferences.
I hope so too, it's mainly my fault and just wanted to vent out somewhere is all
I think your options are either try to adjust to work better with the group or find another way to play.
Or don’t play at all, but I think there must be a way forward that’ll work for you and your situation.
I have ADHD, so I have a similar problem, my fix for it is this: Imagine the characters in your group, in the scenario. Update that scenario as the DM describes it, and whenever anything changes, imagine that change as well. Just keep updating it as frequently as possible and it should keep you engaged and present in the situation
There's definitely a way forward and I still want to DM, I just need to figure out how I should solve my problems, I will try the notes and will update on this channel
Good luck!
I’m new and want to get in to dnd but know pretty much nothing, can I get help?

Give those links a skim, and ask questions as you have them. We might point you back to the rules, but sometimes they’re a bit tricky to comprehend for new folks.
Is there a place that has a general rules of conduct? Like commander in mtg has rule 0 conversation, is there an equivalent?
Do you mean rules about behaviour at the table?
hello
That's something a DM would have to set up for a session 0.
Got it, I've noticed my play style is great for my dm but others here seem to be a bit off put lol
Perhaps your DM can have another session 0 to discuss your playstyle if it's causing issues with other players?
just curious, what is your playstyle by the way?
No issues with others in my campaign, they all enjoy playing with me. But I ask about stuff to gain more power here and it raises eye brows lol
Very heavy roleplay, I'm a rogue that is trying to contact and contract the higher beings for power, which I am actively trading off people to gain.
I don't care for other's plans until they cross me then I rope them into my plans for power.
Stereotypical edgelord who cares only from himself?
Sure? Didn't know that was a edgelord archetype lolol
Well, as long as there are no conflicts between players than that's between you and the other players at your table.
I'm just having fun with a power hungry character that messes with any and all stuff to gain power or wealth to improve my station.
there's nothing inherently wrong with edgelords but many DMs find them annoying to deal with because they can very easily become murderhobos. I must admit though, it's very fun to play alongside a well roleplayed edgelord.
But yeah, I also find creative uses of items and what not to do stuff that's not expected.
Okay, so what's the issue if there's no issue at your table?
people here are taking issue I think
I get told it's a fine line on here sometimes lol
Like the dm never knows if he's arming me for offense or defense but it seems to give him a good chuckle.
I remember the time my players used a immovable rod to slice my boss in half
The point of the boss was that once it started charging, it wouldn't stop until it hit one of the arena walls so they just placed the immovable rod in between them and the boss and watched as it charged at them and was torn into two pieces
That's what I like to do. Never use direct damage spells or attacks, just use items creatively
@tall plank with the 6 slots of preperation you can prepare six different spells that you can cast until your next long rest when you can change it again. if you prepare 6 spells you can choose to cast 1 of them only with your spell slots or cast each of the spells once each
You’re not limited just to those choices. You’re free to cast any spell you’ve got prepared provided you have a spell slot and components available for it.
Worth noting, too, that cantrips are an exception to all this.
You can’t change them after a long rest, and they don’t need spell slots.
My current WIS Mod. is +3.
So, to confirm, as long as the chosen spells are in accordance to my Spell Slots, I can currently prepare any 6 spells one day, then after a Long Rest, any other 6 spells?
What channel do I go to for help with creating a character?
#character-discussion or here I guess
Ok thanks

@ornate idol have fun and good luck
If I choose the magic initiate feat as a rogue I have to start off with gold right because I need an arcane focus
You don’t need an arcane focus
It just means you don’t have to use material components that don’t have a specified value
You do need to provide the material components of the spell.
An arcane focus is simply one way to provide those components.
But you’d need a rule that permits you to use an arcane focus to do so.
Oh okay
(And even then, there’s usually stipulations on which spells it can be used for.)
Yea so if I want to use spells that need components right away I need an arcane focus right
No
You can provide the material components listed in the spell.
Which spell are we talking about?
Hex, I know it needs an eye but I don’t start off with an eye so I should start off with a wand or something I thought
So yes, you could use the petrified eye of a newt.
You could also use a component pouch, which already includes those kinds of things. It serves the same role as a spellcasting focus.
And anyone can use a component pouch.
Again, to use a wand as a spellcasting focus, you need a rule that permits you to do so.
Wizards, for example:
You can use an arcane focus (see the Adventuring Gear section) as a spellcasting focus for your wizard spells.
So wizards can use wands for their wizard spells.
And what about using the magic initiate feat
A wizard could not use a wand if they chose Magic Initiate to learn some bard spells.
(Because those would not be wizard spells.)
And if you choose Magic Initiate to learn wizard spells, the feat alone doesn’t give you the ability to use an arcane focus.
Simply because it doesn’t say it does.
So again, what you probably want here is a component pouch instead.
That or just convince your DM to let you have the non-costly components you need for your starting spells, at least.
Could I have unlimited uses of a spell that needs components if I have a component pouch
I think so, also a lot of DMs just ignore material components that don’t have specified values anyway
Unless a material component says it’s consumed, you can reuse it to cast the spell as many times as you like.
So you only need one petrified eye of newt for the whole game.
I made this fairly extensive list: #third-party-tools-archive message
Cool thanks mate 🙂
How do i add a profile image to Adventure league log? for my character.
I'm not sure but maybe folks in #adventurers-league might have some ideas?
how do you make your characters stats be balanced and what website is generally used for rolling stats?
Try looking into what stats are for your class and you can use dnd beyond I think for rolls

yes I have, I know the basics of it since I watch a lot of campaigns and the information given. of course, I have a few flaws but thats why I want to try for real now, I even did the character format and tried my best by reading about everything and seeing what everything did! 😮

I'm under the assumption this server will make announcements when sales on ddb happen, yes?
In #dnd-announcements and also on the DnDBeyond website (and in the mobile app too although on mobile purchases they can't provide discounts because of the app store policies make it too cumbersome and difficult to do).
ok that's cool; cuz I bought PHB on the 4th of July sale, but I don't remember if books like Tasha or Xan were
and I've been thinking of getting them
thanks

there's the #find-a-game channel. you type in the command for the type of group, you are search for, then you gain access to a new channel, where you type your restrictions (play-time, platforms) into a bot. Then you submit your infos to the channel, where you can then search for mates or dms
You might look into running a session zero, a conversation where people discuss what they want/expect from the game. You can’t deliver on what will engage your friends if they don’t tell you about what they find fun.
How old can a character be or does it not matter?
There’s no mechanical difference for character age according to the rules, but some folks might not feel comfortable with a child character (for example) for various reasons. It’s generally good advice to talk through your ideas with your table.
Thanks!
Except for the obvious, like a standard human being 600 years old and figjting like hes 24 unless he has some sort of amulet of everlasting life or something like that.
Like so if my rouge was like 15-ish or less, he could use age to add to charisma
Like, can you help me I’m lost then stab in the back
how important is Con actually?
There are no rules that allow that.
It’s hard to say definitively, but unless you have a style of game that just avoids combat, it’s a resource that will be drained. I think it’s always worth investing in, personally.
I always keep it in my top three stats. More CON = more HP.
hm
I am completely new to DND.
I really have wanted to get into it for a,, long time. I just don't know how.
Every rule I find doesn't make any sense and I can't comprehend it.
Have you checked out videos instead of reading the rules? Or watched folks play? Sometimes seeing it in action helps it make more sense.
I've watched people play before, I get the general concept. It seems like a lot of fun. I just get nervous because without rules there on a list for me where i'm not searching...everywhere to even find one, because I can't, I feel i'm doing something wrong.
There are cheat sheets out there, or you can create your own, depending on what confuses you most.
Thank you, i'll try my best to figure it out
Here are a few examples: https://www.dnd-compendium.com/player-guides/cheat-sheets
You might Google for others. If there's something folks here can clarify, ask away.

hi im new to this server and just getting bsck to D&D any advise other than this discord for finding a DM/ GM
Spread your net wide. Be proactive: don't just wait to be contacted. Be patient.
Finding a good compatible group takes time (and more than a little luck).
cheers
Very good & true advice
Sorry, I don't understand. Can you rephrase the question?
Ok so like i really wanna get into dnd it seems so fun i just dont know how
Like I dont know any of the lore and only know the basics of how it works kinda just dont know where to start

No lore knowledge is needed either
You don’t really need to worry about lore so much.
It's like any game: you can find people to play with then learn together, or learn how to play and then find others who are willing.
Each game is effectively a universe of its own, so any outside lore may or may not even apply.
Your DM will tell you the things you need to know.
Some of the best ways to learn is to see it be played out! Watching campaigns can be a really good start but also do some light reading/watching videos explaining things like health, saving throws and etc. so it seems a little less intimidating!
Would the dragon of icespire peak be good for a completely brand new dm and players? I know it's included in the essentials kit but I just wanted to make sure that it wouldnt be too much to handle for players with no experience?
It’s specifically designed for players with no experience.
Cool thanks 🙂
If you already have that, I would also recommend keeping an eye on the free adventure. It's set in the same town and made with the same new players in mind, but is a more narrative-led rather than sandbox experience. https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/lmop
I'm confused how the #find-a-game works, I'm used to it being laid out differently and I suppose it got revamped or something?
Yup. It was revamped.
What about it is confusing, specifically?
Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone got like really simple videos to get me into DnD? Specifically online, ive always wanted to try this stuff out.
Like online playing with others roleplay etc kinda
Check out the Handbooker Helper series on YouTube. They're very newbie-friendly. I personally love Ginny Di's stuff. WASD20 has a series of videos for new folks as well.
He is, but remember he is a highly talented voice actor and professional DM thats been doing this for years
Dont expect to find a table with a DM like that
oh yeah for sure, i was just noting how cool he is
DMs and players can also do all their voices as their own voices and still have a ton of fun. My groups did that for 30 years. Please don't put pressure on yourself to do elaborate character voices, although "you can certainly try." 🙂
hey i would like to learn how to play can someone teach me plz

Anybody got a site I can read about the different ranger sub classes so I can have a better idea of what my character wants to do
Hey guys, how do I find a D&D group near me for beginners?
Moved to a new state and wanna make some friends around here with common interests 😬
Look for local game stores/comic book shops, also see if your public library has groups meeting there.
There’s some good articles here to cover most of them:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/tag/ranger-101
But for whatever reason, Horizon Walker, Monster Slayer, and Swarmkeeper are missing there.
All the sites I can find with the whole list are drowning in ads. 😅
And they tend to be clickbaity “ranger subclasses ranked!” articles.
There’s a store offering D&D sessions it looks like.
Admittedly I’ve never played before but always wanted to starts.
Is it rude to just show up as a completely fresh start?
If it’s at a store, they’re probably expecting it.
Not rude to show up at a store and see if you can play.
Alright I’ll give it a go.
It’ll be nice to finally do something other than school.
Hopefully make some local friends
I’d suggest you go through these starters links if you can, just so you’re not walking in completely blind:

Then you can confirm whether there’s room and find out what you need to arrive prepared.
I’ll call em tomorrow, there’s a session coming up in two days but I’m not gonna make that one.
I have a couple of night flight evaluations this week.
Which is fine, gives me time to prepare for the next one
Hope you have fun and good luck
Thx!
👍
The ranger subclasses are found in the PHB, Xanthar’s and Tasha’s.
Additionally, Tasha’s introduced optional features to the base ranger which all vastly improve the class over the PHB version
There’s also Drakewarden in Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons.
The “How to Train Your Dragon” ranger.
Does anyone have an open session I can join?
Assuming you're looking for an online game to join, you should take a look on #looking-for-players
I put a request already thank you.
For your class can you make anything or only specific crafts
You could take a look for the several facebook pages and subreddits across the internets that also do LFG threads, the more places you look the faster you'll find a game (one would hope)
You can take tool proficiencies as part of your background, or in some specific cases, as part of your race/class. Generally the tool proficiencies you hold indicate the kinds of things you could craft between adventures, although much of this is at DM discretion
That sounds cool, I've heard horror story's from DM's involving artificer weapons and gadgets.
That's why I asked
Tbh most things an artificer makes another class could also make
It’s just playing an artificer makes people want to do that kind of thing
Noob question: I'm struggling to understand the exact size of a cone. With Burning Hands, the range is Self (15-foot cone). Does my square count towards the cone? I.e. Will it affect a creature that is 3 squares away from me?
A 15-foot cone is as long as it is wide, so it will affect creatures 15' away and it's 15' wide at that point.
In other words, the origin is effectively at the edge of my square, not inside it. Thanks.
Yes
Another noob question; If a spell does not specifically say that it consumes an expensive material component, does it not consume them? I.e. could I cast f. ex. Summon Undead multiple times after spending the gold cost only once?
To help summarize this, there are three types of material component interactions (in essence) for spells that require them:
- A spell requires an M component but neither consumes it nor has a cost listed. These can be replaced with arcane or druidic foci or a holy symbol. If you have the component, you can use it infinitely for the spell
- A spell has an M component with a listed cost but is not consumed. You must have the component in question to fuel the spell but can use the material infinitely for the spell. This may be a gem of a set value, a weapon worth at least x amount, etc.
- A spell has an M component with a listed cost and/or the material is consumed. The material component is one-and-done. Once you have cast the spell, the component listed as consumed vanishes with the spell. These can range from cheap and affordable to very costly in their use
The spell description will say whether a Material component is consumed or not.
For example, the Identify spell requires a pearl worth at least 100 gp. The pearl isn't consumed in the casting of the spell.
Hi, if i'm new to dnd and interested in purchasing books on DnDBeyond, Is there a good way to preview the books and see what I'm purchasing?
You can go to any books contents page on D&D Beyond even if you don't own the book
Thank you friend :) (kind of feel like an idiot for not knowing that)
So uhh we still up?
The Sun never sets on the D&D Fandom.
This is an international server. Some people will be staying up, some people will have just got up
Oh ok
Let's keep things on topic though
Maybe I can cast a sleeping spell on me since I have a intelligence score of 0
if i want to find players to play dnd online to learn the game, how can i do that

what do i do if im looking for players and a dm'
Hi I am like brand new to this whole DND thing, I'm wanting to start playing with folks online cause no local group. How do I do? I don't even know where to start with making a character and stuff
?looking
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
Get the dndbeyond app, have a look at the pins in the channel for links to the free basic rules and some videos explaining them. To find a game have a read f #find-a-game
I'd advise looking for oneshots, Adventure League (official organsied play) or even westmarches (big servers with many players and DMs, who run games when ever and who ever is available can jump in), as good ways of meeting new people and seeing who you get along with, and slowly networking and making your own group.
I'm dling the beyond app rn. I'll check out the basic rules, seems like a lot of research. And yeah westmarches seems up my alley. Cause I work 14:00-22:00 m-f so I got weird hours
Finding a game is a bit like dating- takes a while to find a group you click with, and you need to spread your net wide and be active. you might be lucky and find your forever group in the first game you join but it might take longer.
It takes communication too- you need to be able to discuss what you want from a game, discover your own playstyle, compromise and match with others, so on.
play-by-posts are also great for a game you can kinda just put down and pick up whenever.
As for the basic rules, don't feel like you need to read all of it. Having a vague idea of how to make a character, and how combat happens, is usually good enough to get you through a first game. And you really only need to know how to make and play your character. if you make a fighter, no need to look up how wizards work and how spellcasting works and what all the spells do and so on. Learn as you go, but have a read through the basic making a character and combat rules to help things click into place as you do so.
I see~ is there like breakdowns anywhere of all the classes and races and stuff?
Dndbeyond does that :
https://www.dndbeyond.com/races
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes
Ty very much :3
hi, im wanting to get into D%D. I'm having struggles figuring out what to do, how to find people to play with, aswell as figuring out what anything is on the website. I joined so maybe I can acquire some help in doing so.
I think I got enough to figure out my first game at least: check out the basic rules on characters and combat, check out the races and classes, and then hit #find-a-game.
Me too, we were just talking about the basics on how to get started here
Just scroll up and read what they was talking bout
Ah ok. tyvm.
:3
I have never played DnD and am wondering what I should avoid while making a character, so they are not Overpowered and such
If you make a character with the material from the basic rules or player handbook, use point buy or standard array for your stats, and don't try to do multiclassing, then it probably will be reasonably balanced.
Alright thank you, I have a base thing set up with point buy and made it and I still have about like 10 points left. Also I am only running a singular class on my char
What class and attributes have you got so far?
Where can I find attributes again? Also I'm running a rogue
Attributes are the STR, DEX, CON, WIS, INT and CHR
Ohh omay
I'll send them here soon
Strength: 10
Dexterity: 14
Constitution: 10
Wisdom:11
Intelligence: 11
Charisma: 14
Is this too high? I don't know
It gave me 27 points to spare and I only used 15-17 I think
So far so good. You can afford to put more points into Dexterity, because that's going to be your main stat.
You can also afford to let some stats be lower, like Strength. You won't really use it for much. D&D characters tend to try to max out one or two main stats, and then really have a low value in at least one.
Also, I apologise i said Attributes, which isn't a DnD term. It's Ability Scores. Sorry if that confused you.
Okay thank you, and no worries I just appreciate I got some help!
I'm probably going to max out dexterity and charisma, since my character was going to be a sort of charismatic thief
Hey does anyone know which race and language fox people have?
Sounds like a fine concept!
Thats a cool damn combo nice
There's no official Fox race. People have homebrewed across Kitsune from pathfinder. It's up to your DM whether homebrew races like that will be permitted. The easier way to get something accepted is to re-flavour something that exists: for example, asking if you can be a Tabaxi (cat person) with Fox theming, and it's like a sub-race. Your DM will be the ultimate arbiter of that.
Image embeds are not permitted on the server: links to images are.
Oh i see
Ok ty for the explanation what does tabaci race normal lamguage is tho?
They speak Common and one other language of your choice, I think.
Oh ty
it should say in the racial description when you've got the book open there, tho
Well, that's setting-specific. DnD isn't one universe but several. In the main universe of the forgotten realms, and in the region where most of the adventures are set, most Tabaxi would speak Common, and Tabaxi...according to older versions. But in 5e, they don't say that Tabaxi have their own language. So you would probably say Common and one other of your choice...though your DM might let you have a native language in addition that won't often come up because of the tabaxi's rarity.
Frankly, every game is basically its own universe.
So your DM is the best person to ask any questions about the world you’re playing in.

Hello! I am very new to dnd. I've been playing with my friends for about a year but have been finding that there's just sooo much I don't know how to do.
Does anybody know if there is a feat that a cleric could use to be able to attack with a weapon for both action and bonus action? or just a way to attack twice with a weapon? 🙂
There are a few ways to do it but that seems like a #character-discussion since its specific to a build and not just a new player question
oh sorry. i just got here so i don't know lol

Hello, I am new and wanne know how to play it online, I have a acount but I see no start butten or someting like that
What is it you have an account for?
D and D
D&D is a tabletop roleplaying game. In essence: it’s you and your friends telling a story together.
That doesn’t necessarily involve having an account.
Are you referring to a specific website, like D&D Beyond?
I assume you mean you have an account on D&D Beyond?
Yes
And what is it you expect a start button to do?
Whenn you click you get option to do like make a room or join a room
D&D Beyond is essentially a digital toolset for playing D&D. To “start”, you’d typically get together with your friends and begin telling a story together.
D&D isn't like a video game, so you'll need to find some people and get together to schedule a session to play either in person or over voice chat
This article covers the basics of what D&D Beyond provides.

The looking for game channel in this discord may be helpful, that's where folks post games
D&D is a game you get together to play with people, more like a mix between a board game and improv theater. It requires a Dungeon Master to control the world and to be the arbiter of the rules. So rooms and matchmaking like a video game wouldnt work.
There are some D&D based video games out there if you are interested. Like Baldur's gate, neverwinter nights, Solasta etc
"D&D Based Video Games" are just fundamentally a different experience though. They are a video game set in the same game world as D&D, not a video game about playing D&D. Its like playing a Harry Potter video game instead of reading the book
true
Is it a lot of mony to begin?
the basics are completely free
Nah, you can play for years without paying a dime.
The basic rules are free. You can pay for additional optional rule books if you want new content and such
Were can I found it?
It’s also included in this list with some other helpful starter links. ☝️
Is the tough feat more benefial when taken early on? At level 3, would you then get something like 60+ hp as a fighter?
No, you would get 6 HP at level 3. The Tough feat is equally beneficial at any level you take it.
It’s retroactive, so you can take it at any time.
The way it calculates the bonus, it's retroactive, so the only benefit you have from taking it earlier is enjoying its benefit earlier. Your final HP won't be affected by when you take it.
Oh i thought it meant your hp at level 3. Thanks
No clue where the 60+ HP is coming from tho.
Edit: oh I got it.
Thanks everyone
@vale shell yup have fun
How do spells and spell slots work for elemental monks
Monks get neither spells nor spell slots in general, so it’d work however whatever feat or multiclass feature says it would.
They don't have spell slots; they spend Ki Points instead, as indicated by whichever Elemental Discipline you chose.
You can spend additional Ki Points to upcast the spell, as outlined under "Casting Elemental Spells".
Have you reviewed that subclass’s section of the PHB?
It explains how the spellcasting works
Ok
Fist of Four Thunders, for example:
You can spend 2 ki points to cast thunderwave.
At fifth level, you can add an additional ki point to increase the spell level by one (casting it as a level 2 spell).
But as a level 5 monk, you can only spend a max of 3 ki points on a spell, so that's as high as you can go.
At least until you reach level 9 and the limit increases.
hello guys! I am new in dnd and really liked the game. But tbh I don't have friends to play it with. Any suggestions?
In person or online
tbh both are fine with me
For in-person, you might be able to find a group through your local game store! Many of them have D&D nights etc. There is also organized play called "Adventurer's League (AL)" if that catches your eye. That style of play kind of helps with people who need to drop-in/out more frequently.
For online, you can check out places like this server - specifically channels like #find-a-game. There are other options such as forums on Roll20 dot net and subreddits like r/lfg. Start Playing dot Games is a web-app that organizes tables and players and is geared towards paid games - though free options are available there, too (but of course, they go fast!).
Good luck! ✌️

Hello ! I am rather new to DnD, and I was looking for a little pre-made campaign on Roll20 that I could play with some cousins to have some fun and a little campaign ! I only dm twice on OS and they only played on those 2 OS, so we are rather beginners but we wanted to try out a full campaign together ! Thank you for your advices 🙏
Welcome! You might want to try a roll20 discord, or the #third-party-tools-archive page. I started by DMing Lost Mine of Phandelver with the pre-made campaign on there, and it certainly saved a lot of time compared to programming that in individually, though eventually I stretched my wings and added to it.
Lost Mine of Phandelver is also available for free if you do want to program it in manually and save money.
