#ddb-support
1 messages · Page 89 of 1
Oh thanks for correcting! That's cool!
@final trellis thank you 🙂
Bringing this over from the homebrew channel because the discussion was beginning to stray from homebrew into DDB tech support, but I am making a druid subclass. I was told I needed a 3rd level feature for housekeeping purposes. This feature could be blank and hidden from the builder and the character sheet. I believe I have done that, but I still get the error: This homebrew Subclass does not have the necessary class features with the correct required levels.
Publishing the subclass is not an immediate need for me, but I would like to resolve the error because it bothers me.
Druids don't have a 3rd level feature. They have 2, 6, 10 and 14.
I understand that. I was told that homebrew druid subclasses needed it in order to maintain consistency with the Circle of Land druid which gets a spellcasting feature at level 3. It was described as more of a DDB housekeeping thing than an actual gameplay feature.
For what it's worth, I started getting the error before adding the level 3 feature, which is what kicked off the conversation in the first place.
Try clicking Save again from the main section. That's the only time that the automod runs to check for this sort of thing
looks like we are all good now. That must have done it. I appreciate you working with me through this
Is there away to set up ddb without Facebook, Twitch?
You will need either a Google or Apple account to sign up for DDB.
D&D Beyond doesn't support Facebook sign up and no longer supports twitch sign-up (but does still support legacy twitch sign-in)
The latest campaign summary view on the app is really useful to me as a DM! Is this same view available anywhere on the website version? As I have multiple web pages running for virtual play, that is where it would be most useful for me.
Probably a “coming soon” feature.
Hey, is this an okay place to make a purchase inquiry? I wanted to ask a question about the preorder for Fizban's Treasury of Dragons. I see that there is a deal currently for preordering the book and I'm interested in doing that, however at checkout it says the following:
Minimum cart total of $1.99 regardless of the coupons or previously purchased content credits that are applied.```
So can I not get the physical hardcover book by preordering it from dnd beyond?
Correct, everything bought from DDB is only online.
damn
Thank you for the response!
Np
So one of my players left my campaign, so I deleted his character from the campaign screen.
Suddenly it appeared between my own characters for some reason and I deleted it there, but now the whole character is gone and the player can't find him anymore.
How does that work? There's probably no way to turn that back, is there?
There was an issue about 10 days ago where removing a character from a campaign gave the DM ownership by mistake. I'm guessing when you removed the character it was over a week ago?
Yes, exactly
I wanted to help a friend with character creation, but I couldn't because there were too many characters and one of them wasn't even mine.
okay whats your username, I can undelete the character -you'll then need to add it back to a campaign and unassign it so the original owner can reclaim it.
PlagueOfLaughter
Oh and whats the character's name/class/level/race details
Samirook/Wizard/5/deep gnome
Refresh and should be there. You can join it to a campaign and then unassign the character and when the original owner joins they can claim it back
Yes, there he is!
Alright. I'll let him join... and then unassign him.
Hmm, let me see how that works.
You just need to use the join URL to add the character to a campaign Then you can unassign. Then when someone else is in the campaign or joins they can claim
Don’t mind me as I casually just nab a screenshot of you pinging everyone
Hey i need some help please, i've made a paladin spell casting base bloodhunter homebrew subclass, it should have more spell slots, how do i add more?>
Unfortunately there currently is no way to change the spell slot progression of homebrew subclasses
You can create feats or magic items with charges that can be ticked off to represent spell slots, but that's only for tracking, and won't work quite as nicely as spell slots
I don't understand how it works. How do I share the URL with the character I want to add?
Take the Join campaign URL that you would give to players to join and just open a new tab and paste/go to the campaign like you were a player
This is how anyone adds a character to a campaign
I created a homebrew item and weilded it and attuned to it, and the feat it gives me isnt showing up on the char sheet. Is that a bug?
The homebrew has a modifier feat, and the chosen feat.
Not all modifiers work for all homebrew types, and Feat is one of them. I can't recall off the top of my head whether it works for anything or not at all, but this is unfortunately one of those cases.
Oh okay just making sure 🙂
When you pre-order something that comes with some gift like frames or dice or whatever. Do you get them as soon as you pay or not till the item is released?
It depends on the release specifics. Some are released when the book releases, but in the past others have been granted immediately
Fizbans, I dont see the frames showing up and I entered the code yesterday.
and theres no dice
This is one of the standard "when the book is released" cases
To my knowledge it's only been once(?) that pre-order perks have been immediate
Maybe twice
None of the pre-order bonuses are released yet - they generally are released within 24 hours of the book launch.
I'm not complaining the reason I bring it up is because I have 20-21 items in my cart waiting on a big sale so I can buy them but save money. And I bought that one book because I would miss out on the preorder goodies if I waited. So I bought it as a gift in another browser and used the code on my account that way I wouldn't have to remove all the items then re-add them back to my cart. And when I saw nothing showed up except saying I own the book I was nervous. LOL
Thank you so much 🙂
Definitely works for races (and I think only for races).
I noticed 1 item that was in my cart as a pre-order stayed there a long time, I was hoping to pay for it when the sale arrives. but one day the website forcibly removed from my cart, so I realized once that happened I needed to get fizbans.
@uneven lantern yeah this was a Item
In your case, I'd just manually add the feat directly on the character sheet.
You can do that by going to Features & Traits and clicking the "Manage Feats" button.
Mmhmm, I saw that.
When browsing for monsters can I somewhere filter to only show content that I already own?
Not at the moment, though filtering by owned content is a common request that the team has been made well aware of
I'm looking for help with some Homebrew. I have created a subclass that gets access to a third cantrip but it's not showing up as having access. I have followed support from the different forums but that is still not working.
alright, thank you for the swift help!
Homebrew Subclass Cantrips
I've been trying to figure out how I would get this to work all day so I thought I'd enlist the help of Discord. I want to make an artificer that fights using two arcane hovering battering rams that act like an extension of their fists(They throw a punch and one goes hurtling at an enemy). I was wondering which subclass would work best for this?
I'm thinking Armorer, Artillerist, or Battle Smith (They wouldn't count as steel defenders I don't think since they go after my turn and they float)
Artillerist because I think I'd be cool to have the arcane cannon incorporated into the arcane hover unit thing
This channel is for help using D&D Beyond; you might try asking in #character-discussion 🙂
Oh, okay
i started to work on that paladin based bloodhunter subclass and it gave me the properties of the profane soul bloodhunter subclass
like instantly took them to second level
can someone explain how custom backgrounds work on dnd beyond and with that how starting backgrund equipment works with custom
There is no starting equipment for a custom background.
I'm not sure anything can replace my Dice of Heroism, I love them so much. LOL any help for this? I want them in RL 😦
do you get anything then starting gold or stuff or just starting class gear?
I could have sworn I got starting equipment and I have a custom background.
Just from your class. You could just ask your DM to use the shopping method instead.
Does anybody know if the dndbeyond.com is in maintanance mode or sth? I can't change anything on my character sheet, regardless of which browser I use.
well technically I can't prepare/unprepare my spells even inside the character builder
I just tried its working for me in Chrome Browser
Are you navigating to the character from My Characters, or have you copied the character sheet share link?
Unable to make changes to character sheet
Any idea why a player is unable to select College of Eloquence? I own Tasha's, and content sharing is enabled. College of Creation is showing up as an option.
They probably need to turn on Magic: The Gathering content for that character.
How do you keep track of your mount's, summoned beast's and primal companion's health points?
Is there a way to add creatures to one's character sheet?
Yes, under Extras.
So like a note right?
No, a literal stat block.
Hey how do I equip magic items? There’s CoS shared with me from DM, but I can’t seem to add CoS items to my dude. I searched but they aren’t coming up.
Campaign sharing turned on, and someone in the campaign owns Curse of Strahd, and the book has not been toggled off under Content Management, and the character is actually in the campaign?
Oh duh fair
Oh nice! Pets, familiars, mounts, it's all there. Didn't know it's already a thing. Cool 👍
Fair. My one dm is sharing but it’s for a different campaign xD I wasn’t sure if that was good enough.
Like I can find the items under the book, but can’t equip them xD
But the DM has to be using Beyond for this campaign for the items to be equippable?
To be able to add an item to a character sheet, that specific character must be in a campaign with Content Sharing turned on. If you have a different character in a different campaign where content is being shared with you, you can still see the content in the compendium. But for any given character to be able to use shared content, they must be in a campaign with that content being shared
Like…
DM 1 is doing the carnival one and shared the books.
DM 2 is doing CoS in person on paper but I like the app.
So since DM 2 isn’t using Beyond I can’t equip the CoS items even though I have access to look at them? So I’m just SoL?
Yeah, either you need that character in a campaign where it’s shared with you, or you can purchase that item to use it any campaign.
DM 1 shared their entire collection including CoS.
Fair XD
I’ll probably just see how much the items cost, or just spend $2-4 and buy the single items I need
I think it’s usually $2 for a single magic item.
Hey what type of cantrip summons a weapon
There’s probably a bundle of all the CoS magic items if you think you’ll need others.
Offhand question. I’m raging and a barbarian. Is there a “rage status” to make it Always count the +2 damage for my attacks?
Like I can click it under action and it takes away the activation, but I don’t think it adds it in damage wise
None of them create anything that mechanically counts as a weapon, but there’s plenty that can be flavored as one. Thorn whip, for example.
Probably a better question for #character-discussion, though. This channel is more for help with DDB itself.
Ah I see thanks
No, it doesn’t currently effect your damage. A lot of people use homebrew magic items to do that, though. Equip when rage starts to add the bonus, then unequip when it ends.
Looking for someone to edit or assist with my rogue subclass. I am having a few issues and not quite sure where I have gone wrong. If this is the wrong conversation I apologize as I am new, happy to be pointed in the right direction.
There’s an excellent forum post here that can walk you through making that rage item:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/76575-how-to-homebrew-your-own-buff-system
Hi! Sorry for this to be the first thing I do on-server, but I seem to have an issue with my DnDbeyond account, as it appears my PHB has more or less just... vanished? Several subclasses from the PHB that I know for sure I've had before are simply just gone, along with several backgrounds that I've definitely had on my account previously. I was wondering if I could get assistance in recovering my PHB somehow, or something of the sort. Thank you in advance.
I'd provide account information and such, but like, I don't wanna do that on a public server
Was it from content sharing?
I-
Gods now that I think about it, it's possible? I don't think it was though, cuz I remember having it before I joined any campaigns.
So
maybe?
but I don't think it was
yeah, no, I'm pretty confident it wasn't content sharing
@narrow bridge Does this say it was purchased? https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
Other things: Content sharing was turned on if it's not on there, you might have seen old UA which is no longer supported, you might be logged into the wrong account, and probably some other things.
Well, it's stuff from PHB
so
I doubt it's UA
Oh hey it wasn't purchased, huh
well then
I guess that's that, huh
The encounter builder no longer shows the monster I just finished editing as even existing to add to an encounter. It’s like it fell off the entire site as far as the builder is concerned.
I’m not sure why this happened
Monster exists, but builder says no
Also all my filters are off except the name filter trying to find it
Homebrew creations do need to filter through the server cache to show up in other locations.
One of my players has an item that raises their stats and the item isn't affected. as a DM how can I edit the players stats?
Why doesn't the item work?
But also, you or the player can just click one of the ability scores (on the sheet) and add additional modifiers or override it.
I have no idea why it doesnt work but his Cha isnt going up.
I can change the modifier but i cant change the ability score
So you have something that raises someones str to 20, how would you do that if the item doesnt change their stat to 20?
Im not able to change their ability scores on the sheet 😦
If you click an ability the sidebar will open
There you will see two boxes; override modifier and override score
You'll want to put the new score in the second box
hello
Hi there, do you need a hand with using some part of the D&D Beyond site or tools?
Is there some way to make purchased content available in sort of an "offline-mode" outside of the mobile app? Use a lot of my tools on laptop, and if I want to prepare a session or so while on the train with no stable connection that would be quite helpful
Not currently, no
hello there! one of the members in another server im in is experiencing a really odd issue with beyond. basically, when they try to create a character, beyond sets all their stats to -3. doesn't matter what stats they put in, once they hit create and beyond takes them to their character sheet, all stats become -3.
has anyone else seen this issue?
Do they set their ability scores?
And have they changed any of the modifiers in the below sections under ability scores?
Like if they changed the scores down here
They might have set an "override score" which would ignore their default stats
A "0" in that Override Score would probably do it.
They need to erase that number entirely.
they set their abilities with point buy. another member in our server hopped into VC watched them do it. but I'll check if they have something in the override. thank you!
Hey, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question, but I am trying to create a magical longsword that does extra radiant damage. I am not able to figure out how to get the damage type for the versatile damage to be separate. For instance, 1d8 slashing and 2d8 radiant (one-handed) but 1d10 slashing and 3d10 radiant (two-handed). Is this possible to do, or can damage bonus only be applied overall and not separated out based on one- vs. two-handed?
The sword of Zariel works that way, you could look to see how that's set up if that's an option.
I have access to it via being in a friend's campaign, but it does not allow me to select it as an option to use as a base sword to see how it works "behind the scenes".
Yeah, shared character options only work within the campaign that's sharing it. Since the homebrew system is not inside any campaign, you're not able to use those items there.
Buuut it doesn't look like that sword actually effects the character sheet in the way you're looking for.
It's got a Damage Modifier for the one-handed bonus, and then just refers to the two-handed damage in the Details field (in plain text).
Interesting. Okay, in that case, I will use my work-around. I'll figure out which way the character is going to use it and just make the damage for the radiant that amount.
Thanks for the help! I appreciate it.
Who can I talk to about fixing the character creator for screen readers?
We don't have a dedicated person you can talk to, but you can leave feedback. You can leave it in either #ddb-feedback or on the forums in our feedback forum: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/d-d-beyond-feedback
Okay The character creator stops working soon after you staart trying to make a character with a screen reader. Making it totally inaccessible to your blind custommers. Can we get this fixed as it worked fine a few months ago.
Hello, folks! I just exported a bunch of character sheets to PDF. They are blank or have bits and pieces of information, but not the whole character sheet. No names, no nothing. Is this a known bug? Is there a fix?
Can you help me get a dnd beyond profile
You can sign up for free right here, using either a Google or Apple account.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/create-account
What about discord
Nope.
Ok thank you
Need a Google or Apple account to sign up.
So I have this weird bug here where a magic item I have made, Frost Giant Fork, shows up as "otherwordly warrior" in My Creations as well as in its own link. If I change the name, it resolves itself, but not if I then change it back to its correct name.
I had a question about creating a homebrew item. I know that using the [spell] links to the spell in DDB, but is it possible to do that with equipment?
Thank you!! I thought there was a way but I wasn't sure.
I also had a question about running encounters. Do I have to manually apply the players HP, or is there a way it can be connected to their characters sheets and give me their HP live?
At the moment, it's manual, but they announced in today's Dev Update that it should start pulling player data very soon.
Oh cool!
Question about the ddb character sheet. How do you cast "at-will" spells? Like for example a warlock with Armor of Shadows. The Mage Armor spell shows up in the list but has no way of casting it.
Actually it's all at-will spells...
All the "cast" button does is subtract a spell slot. For an "at will" spell, there's no slot to subtract.
The sheets don't yet automate any temporary effects like Mage Armor.
I see
You can either click your AC and manually add the bonus, or a common workaround is to make a homebrew magic item for it. Equip it when the spell starts to add the bonus, then unequip when it ends.
Well manually entering AC is easy. Other self targeted effects might be harder lol.
Making the armor...yes
This forum post might already have the answers for those:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/76575-how-to-homebrew-your-own-buff-system
Thanks that is very insightful
Ok so if your wearing an item that gives the Mage Armor effect but have to unequip it when it ends, why not just make Mage Armor's duration "until you finish a long rest"? Like Baldur's gate 3?
That’s a game mechanics/rules consideration; D&D Beyond is owned by Fandom, and Dungeons & Dragons by Wizards of the Coast (under Hasbro)
Is there a way to homebrew a race like a custom lineage or variant human, one that would grant the option to choose a feat?
When I create a race there is an option to add a feature or to add a variant, but how would one add a feat option if that is possible?
Give the race a feature with the "Choose a feat" modifier.
Ah 👍 thanks found it.
hi,
some random classes and races are missing from my character options, even though i have access to their books
college of spirits bard, ggtr races, oathbreaker paladin
Is there a way to homebrew a Warlock Invocation on the DDB websight?
Minor issue, but want to make sure it's not just on my side: When going to Appendix B of Xanathars (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/xgte/character-names#AppendixBCharacterNames), The 'Nonhuman Names' header on the sidebar is missing, not just white text, but missing entirely when looking in inspect. Reloading or navigating to it other ways doesn't seem to be fixing it
Hey folks
Is there anyway to download a condensed format PDF? Like the one that shows on your app?
The app itself doesn't display PDFs, but rather formatted text like the web version. Official WotC sourcebooks for the fifth edition rules and adventures don't exist, I'm afraid
Sorry I should clarify
Is there a way to print a condensed character format sheet like the one displayed on the app, with main stat ability, saves, ect
Like this
But without screen shotting
Not to PDF at the moment, no
Is there a way to make a magic weapon expend a spell slot?
Or is that not yet a feature?
I don't believe that's possible. I think only a feat can be added in a way that adds the spell to cast from. If you don't mean a spell then there isn't a way to just have an ability of a magic weapon use a spell slot.
Ok. I am making Curse Bringer (UA) a greatsword that a hexblade warlock can attune to. However the only thing it gets is the damage ability which requires expending a spell slot to do an additional 3d6 slashing.
Also it's a +3 Legendary Wondrous Item
Yeah, that's not possible to make as an ability. The player would just need to mark off a slot after using it.
Sounds like the paladin's Divine Smite. Even there, you just mark off a spell slot.
Fair enough. Ya marking off slots is probably easier anyhow.
Question about DDB characters in Campaigns. Does deactivating them essentially make them like NPC's?
As is I made an essential NPC that is unassigned and deactivated. I think there used to be an alternate option but not sure.
can the caster of shadow of moil see?
@ocean lilyThat'd be a question for #dnd-rules
This channel is for getting help using the D&D Beyond website
ty
How long does this usually take?
15 mins at worst
Anyone can help me with homebrew options?
Can you be a little more specific?
Which book adds Pirate as a class choice?
I don't believe Pirate is a class choice - Swashbuckler is a Rogue subclass choice if that's what you might mean?
In which case, you'd want to check out Sword Coast's Adventurer's Guide
(Though I think Xanathar might have it too!)
Yeah, Pirate is not a class or subclass.
There is a pirate background, but it's just a variant of the Sailor background.
If it’s only supposed to be 15 minutes then I’m definitely going to still need help because they aren’t in my list to use in both editing an encounter or creating a new encounter
Ohh okay figured I'd ask since the DnD wiki had one.
DnDWiki is not official rules.
"dandwiki" is just filled with homebrew stuff that people made and is not official.
Dandwiki == dnd wiki
Ohhhh okay
Quick Question, because I’m fairly new to Roll20. How do you enable dnd beyond character sheets as a DM?
DnD beyond has no official connection to Roll20 or any other service like that
Isn’t there a plug-in or something?
Not officially
Be aware using an extension may break site functionality if you do find one that connects them
Oh, okay. Thanks for the heads up.
No problemo
Hey everyone,
does the Sourcebook Bundle in the Marketplace include the two upcoming sourcebooks? I've bought the bundle earlier and right now I'm only missing one book and the pre-oders and still the bundle costs around 84 bucks for me
I don't believe so - it only covers existing/available books as of the time you buy it. It does not cover pre-orders although you would get the discount when pre-ordering new source books later.
^
Alright, thanks for the answers. Doesn't make sense to buy it then
it... still does? cause you still get all the sourcebooks at a discount, and a discount for future purchases?
buy one remaining book for 84 bucks is no discount lol
???? where are you pulling that from? The books are 30 bucks, plus a 10% discount for the sourcebook bundle??
Should be like that, right.
I've got all of the Sourcebooks except for Van Richten's Guide and the two preorders, still it costs 84 bucks. That's why I was asking that question
Probably cus you've bought other books on sale or at a discount, and only the actual amount you have paid is subtracted from the price of the bundle.
^ That does make sense and adds up correctly...
Meanwhile, if a bundle goes on sale, I think it will go way down for you if all you're missing is one book. I was missing several books and bought the Legendary bundle for $22. 🤷
Hello, folks! I'm making a homebrew version of a monster and i notice there is all this code syntax in the actions field. Do I have to type all that out if I'm not "rolling" dice using DDB? I import everything into Foundry. Thanks!
So I bought the players handbook on my tablet and am unable to download it or use anything from it on the character creator, do I have to do something first?
All it lets me do after buying it is click on buy it again and if I do it comes up with an error code saying I already own it.
You SHOULD just have to download it and once it is there you can make a character with those options. the unable to download seems weird. Maybe give it a minute?
Also, this may be a dumb question, but you are using the "new" DDB app, right?
Totally optional.
Thanks and a very nice day to you sir
Many I try deleting and downloading it again?
Maby*
So even if you have a Bag of Holding in your inventory and most of your items are in it, your carrying weight is still listed as if the items were in your normal inventory. Any workaround or...?
Presuming you haven't added a function for the weight of an item to be deducted from your inventory once inside a Bag of Holding?
I believe the devs are still working on the bags functionality - what we have is currently the first iteration and there is more planned.
Fair enough
Did anyone have this bug where in character creation, if you enable customize your origin when you go to the origin manager you have multiple Origin Ability Score Increases and Origin Proficiencies available? It should only be once
Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?
No, that’s correct.
Oh my bad. Thats normal for that race?
You’ve got one ASI to replace the +2 CON that all dwarves get, and another to replace the +2 STR specific to mountain dwarves.
Ah cool. Thanks for clarifying 👍
Same story with the Origin Proficiencies. One is for the base dwarf Tool Proficiency, and the other for mountain dwarf’s Dwarven Armor Training.
I have a question that was asked of me by one of my players. How do you create a non-magical item in DDB?
Currently it is not possible. You can use the "Custom Item" but it's all text, no mechanics.
Ok thank you.
Yeah, if you click Manage Equipment, open the Equipment section in the sidebar, and hit “Add Custom Item”, you can give it any name and description you want.
Hey folks,
I want to change the stats of a spear: Taking out "thrown", new damage to 1d8/1d10
How can I do this?
How do I make a homebrew subrace of Aasimar using the Protector one as a template? It doesn't appear to show up as an option
You can remove thrown by giving it the modifer of Ignore Weapon Property. You can't change the die.
You have to own it to use it as a base.
Has it been 15 mins since you bought it? Takes a moment to sync sometimes.
I bought it a while ago, just now trying to make a copy of the subrace
Are the other subraces showing up as options? Are you able to make a Protector Aasimar character?
Only Variant shows up
The selection system also seems weird, the subrace one calls out the Elf subraces but then the variant part allows for Elf subraces
You have to select Subrace, not Variant.
I did
It was just another example of other weird things the homebrew race system seems to look like
Are your entitlements in sync?
They seem to be, I went to make a character and everything showed up fine along with my races like Aasimar
What does it look like when you pick subrace in the homebrewer and try to find Protector?
No matches found
Screenshot?
Huh. Try going here (https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace) and make sure it says "Your entitlements data is in sync! [...]" under Account Entitlements.
Says it's fine
Are you able to find Protector Aasimar in your order history?
Well I'm out of ideas. Does it work on a different browser/desktop?
I'd have to check later
Yeah, although you shouldn't be allowed to use both racial ASIs on the same stat
I think that's a limitation with the site(?)
That is correct, currently the drop downs can't cross-detect selections for ASIs. This is something the team is aware of requiring functionality
how do you obtain the other races in Dndbeyond site?
You can either purchase the book a race is in, or go to the books store page and purchase the race directly
@lapis geyser thank you
How do you use the origin ASIs from Tasha’s on homebrew subraces? One of my players tried but it doesn’t appear
He also can’t use any optional class features from Tasha’s either
I’m very confused about what the issue is with his sheet
Another player her character is also a homebrew subrace all of hers work just fine
My mistake artificer doesn’t have any class features but he still can’t use the race features
Homebrew races need to be given optional features by whoever creates it.
Would it be possible to make a hybrid of two races? (New to D&D sorry if this is basic knowledge)
To use them, you need to first go to the Home tab in the character editor and turn on Customize Your Origin.
And then on the Race tab, click Origin Manager and choose the optional features you want to enable.
If you’re asking whether it’s possible to do on D&D Beyond, yes. You can make a homebrew copy of each race and then recreate the features of one on the other.
That will be for private use only, though. Don’t publish it.
If you’re asking about game rules, that’s a better question for #dnd-rules. (Short answer: no, but ask your DM anyway. 😜)
Ohh okay thank you!
Hey what would be the walking range of a Eladrin druid
This channel is for help with D&D Beyond specifically. For questions about game rules, #dnd-rules is the channel you want.
But elves have a base walking speed of 30 feet. Only wood elves change that (with 35).
Oh ok thank you btw
How do you do this?
When you add a racial feature, you can select a feature type: granted, additional, or replacement.
Oh ok would you choose replacement?
Granted are the base features a player receives by default. Additional are optional features that can be taken alongside the granted ones. Replacement are optional features that can be taken instead of a granted one.
Ok, then I assume just copy them over from Tasha’s?
If you want to follow those rules for it, yes.
So ASIs for example. You’d add a granted racial feature with the Modifiers for the default ability scores, then add a replacement feature (set to replace the original ASI) with modifiers that let them choose their ability score.
Ok! I think I understand. Now to get to work. Thank you! This has been bothering me for days!
(But as far as ASIs go, I’d just let them choose from the beginning, and forget making it optional. That’s how all the newer races are being designed.)
True but this was previously made like 6 months ago before all that came out
Live and learn I guess. Thank you again
How do I add
"Opal of the Ild Rune"
to my DNDbeyond character sheet. I own all of the books.
It's from storm kings thunder
OK, so I have all the books, but my character is in someone elses campaign.
can I share to that campaign?
They might have disallowed SKT and then you won't have access to it in that character.
hey when they give out this kind of information is it 1d10+12 or 1d10+7 only?
I am needing a little help I made a vampire lord race and I am having a hard time giving him his vampire abilities can anyone help
So the +7 is for your spell attack against a target. You roll a d20 and it’s that number plus seven for your attack against their AC.
The damage if you hit is 1d10+ your spell casting modifier which in this case is 5.
Thanks. Can I change a custom item. Perhaps via Homebrew?
A custom item (an item created directly on the sheet instead of in the homebrew creator) has no functionality other than name, description, weight, quantity, and cost. So I'm not sure what you mean, you can change all those aspects freely.
You probably want a custom action.
Idk if I'm allowed to ask my question here but, is it possible to use a coupon code via the mobile app?
When you say you “have” the books, does that mean you purchased them yourself or that someone else is sharing them with you?
If you purchased them, they’ll be shared in any campaign where Content Sharing is enabled.
If it’s being shared with you, you’ll only be able to use it in the campaign that’s sharing it.
Vampire Homebrew
Coupon codes, sale prices, and individual item purchases currently work on the website only.
why am I only able to pay with a debit card on the mobile app? Sorry if this is a rude question.
Any credit card/debit card should be useable (assuming the DnDBeyond payment processor accepts it).
ty for the help
I will note it's currently easier, at the moment, to use the website for purchases using coupon codes, sales, or individual content purchases. These have not been implemented yet in the mobile apps (also Google and Apple app stores make this harder to implement while staying within the requirements to be distributed through these app stores).
Yeah problem is my card isn't supported with d&d beyond
Theres always paypal?
yeah but it says I need to connect my creditcard to paypal
Yes you would. If paypal also doesnt accept your card, im out of ideas
I mean I can put more money on my paypal balance but I don't have any cards connected
Only have a debit card so can't connect a credit card to paypal
A debit card should also work with paypal
does revolut also work with paypal?
or am I even able to directly pay with revolut?
if so that would make things a lot easier for me
On the website the options are to use one of the accepted credit card (or debit card that's able to be used as through one of the credit card processors) or PayPal. I believe that PayPal accepts debit cards and can connect directly to your bank account. Beyond that you would need to contact either Google or Apple, whichever you have, to see what they offer for purchasing apps.
is this an ok homebrew?
OK to publish? Seems like it, assuming that’s your own original creation.
If you mean whether it’s balanced for gameplay or fits in the rules #homebrew is the place to ask.
thanks
The weight of items inside a bag of holding seem to be added to the weight calculation for encumberence instead of the 15 lbs described in its description. Is this a bug, or do I have to tick something somewhere first? I have checked that the items are in a bag of holding, and I have clicked "use" on it.
You'd have to manually change the weights. It's not currently supported that things in the bag don't add to carry capacity.
Alrighty! Thanks!
Hi all,
Is there a way for my own private homebrew items to be useable by the players in my campaign without them clicking "Homebrew Content" and being open to the entire homebrew library?
So you can add Homebrew items to your "Homebrew Collection" and when they turn on the Homebrew content option in character creation, only the stuff they've added to their collection should appear.
Also if they're in your campaign they don't even have to add it to their Collection to get access to it.
But will they see ALL of the homebrew items and things from other people, too? I only want them to see what I've created for them.
They shouldn't no, they should only see what items they have added to their collection afaik, or in the latter case should only see stuff you've made, assuming they have nothing set to their collection.
well, stuff you've made and any stuff THEY'VE made
Okay good. That was what my concern was. Thanks!
Next question: Is there a dedicated channel where I can ask for help in crafting a homebrew subclass for one of my players? I already know the design, but I want to make sure I'm building it properly in D&D Beyond.
that I don't know \o/ i just joined the server literally 5 minutes ago lol - but i've made a bunch of subclasses and such and would be more than happy to help you out in DMs
It’s planned! This is just step one for containers — there’s a lot more yet to come.
Head on over to #880965682462875679 to get the ✏️ Homebrew role, then you should be able to find #homebrew.
They'll see anything that anyone in the campaign has in their Homebrew Collection, to be clear. Not just their own and the DM's.
Didn't know that they got other players' homebrew! Thanks for the heads up on that. Is it stuff in other players' collections, or just stuff other players have made?
If it's in your Collection and you are in a campaign, then anyone in that campaign can see that item. Simple as that. I am in a campaign where we have like 3 duplicates of lots of popular magic items and spells because of this.
So, for some reason, my browser on my desktop is in mobile mode. Any suggestions?
Mac + Chrome
The only thing I can think of to cause that is zoom level or window width
Where can i find sentient weapons in the books
DMG, chapter 7.
Me have a question how do make a campaign on dndbeyond we all have characters but do we have to make the encounters (srry we are new to dnd)
You can chose to use the DnDBeyond encounter builder if you want or use some other system or tool.
Just consider DnDBeyond a place to provide licensed digital tools to help you play D&D but none of it is required to play D&D.
ty
hey i cant find a good homebrew ghost/spirit race in ddb any recommendations
You want homebrew discussion, this is for help using the site itself
No worries, if you cant see the channel, check out #880965682462875679 and grab what you need
How do you add a tool tip for a custom item that references another custom monster you have created?
Right now it just displays the message [Tooltip Not Found]
Tooltips are for official content only - they do not generate for homebrew content.
Ok, thanks - do you know if there are any plans in the works to add in this capability eventually?
No plans that I am aware of - there is a lot of complexity with homebrew potentially having the same name between different users, hence why its official content only.
I have built a Bard character and I have just been reading Tasha's (which I own on DnDBeyond) and realised that there are some optional Bard spells. Question, how do I make these available? (They do not show up in the lists of available spells in my Character Builder). I have allowed everything in the Character Builder (e.g. Non-core Dnd Items and Optional Features. Thx
Same page where you level up in the editor should have a tab to pick which optional features you want to use
Ah, ok, thanks, I will check this out now
Excellent, thank you.
recently i bought the physical essentials kit, and it came with a code to redeem on dndbeyond, so that i could claim the same package on the website as well.
My question is;
if i buy a physical sourcebook like the players handbook or tasha's, will i get such a redeem key as well?
Nope, that was a one time promotion unique to the boxed essentials kit
alright, thank you
I've never prepurchased a book on DDB and waited so excitedly for it so I've never laid attention to this - but what time will Fizban's go love on site?
They don’t hold any promises, they just say it’ll be live on the day of
It usually gets uploaded bit by bit too, so may see some sections and the ToC before seeing other parts of the book
Keep an eye on #dnd-social-feeds! There will be an announcement as soon as the book is live.
As far as I can tell, there are no active DDBeyond coupons atm. Can someone confirm?
That's correct, aside from the physical coupons packaged inside the D&D Essentials Kit.
But you can keep an eye on #dnd-social-feeds or watch for a banner at the top of the DDB site to find out whenever the next sale happens.
When does fizban go online in the DDB App?
I've built a level 3 armourer artificer with the Guardian armour model.
In my actions I see my guantlets with a different damage and +hit modifier (one is using my str and proficiency the other int and proficiency).
Does that indicate that I could use the second one as a bonus attack like in two weapon fighting? (Even though the gauntlets don't have the light property)
Or why do the gauntlets have different modifiers?
Armorer Artificer allows you to use Intelligence or Strength when using the Guardian Armor Model, which is why there's two attacks.
How do I get UA material to show on DnDbeyond when creating a character? And what about if it was archived?
Ahh so it's for the sake of having the choice right? In case someone is maxing one or the other?
So I would still need the two weapon fighting feet if I wanted to use a bonus action to attack with a second gauntlet right?
UA material is not supported by DDB anymore, you can read more about it here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/news-announcements/116702-news-the-future-of-unearthed-arcana-ddb
RAW speaking, you can't use Two-Weapon Fighting with it since you don't hold the Thunder Gauntlets.
Hm thats unfortunate. But would you argue that RAI one should be able to?
That's not really a discussion for this channel
We have #dnd-discussion, #dm-discussion and #dnd-rules for such topics
Aw man. Guess I have to so in and make a stone sorc with the homebrew feature.
Keep an eye on #dnd-social-feeds! There will be an announcement as soon as the book is live in the app.
I'm building a mountain dwarf artificer, but the smith tools don't show up in the select menu.
Does anyone know why?
Are you already getting smith's tools from another source, like your class/subclass/background?
No. I'm getting alchemist's supplies as my class option and a forgery kit as a character background option, then these tools should be from the race option.
But for some reason I can't select smith tools in any of them if I look for it
Can you share a link to the character?
Yeah, it's showing there that you already have Smith's Tools proficiency, from Artificer.
Ah so I don't even need to pick it?
Which is why it's not showing there for your race. They're trying to spare you from picking the same proficiency twice, since you get no benefit from that.
Ah cool thank you. So I just need to buy/add it to my inventory
I've got another question:
When I look in my inventory, under infusions one of the choices I have made is to use an infusion to replicate a bag of holding. But it doesn't show up in my inventory yet.
Is that because the feature hasn't been implented yet, so I should just add a simple bag of holding?
Hi All, I have just finished our Monday night game, I was trying out the new campaign page on the mobile to see if I could track players HP.
All looked good but it's not doing the live updates in fact even if I refresh the page it was not updating, any thing I am missing.
I was at home with strong WiFi using the latest version of the app.
What does it mean when a homebrew race says that it has Non-English Language
Wait, does the homebrew race have to meet the requirements to be able to be used by players?
#character-discussion is your best bet for that kind of help - this channel is meant more for difficulties with the website
oh ok thx
That message is related to publishing - you do not need to publish to use your own homebrew, or have friends use it (as long as you are in a campaign with them). I always strongly recommend against publishing as once you do, that version is locked - it cannot be taken down, nor can you edit.
The non-english lang error is generally related to not having a proper description. If you were to write TBA, the check sees it as not enough text, so makes the assumption you may have used a language other than English (for example languages like Japanese that use kanji where a single character can represent a word, etc.)
I always advise to ignore those messages - they mean nothing unless you are publishing, which I only advise to do after extensive playtesting, QA checks and once you are ready to have the homebrew shared and never be touched/edited ever again.
Fizban's Treasury of Dragons is now LIVE! - https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/ftod
We have a Support Thread detailing specific features from the book that work in relation to our toolsets: https://dndbeyond.link/ftod_support - If you notice any issues, please check this thread for info!
Fizbans isnt showing up in the app, how can I fix this?
it'll be up in a few days
Should be up today.
Keep an eye on #dnd-social-feeds! There will be an announcement once it's ready in the app.
Ok so, it just came out but how do I change the Dragon's Wrath Weapon to a Non-Longsword?
Dragon’s Wrath Weapon. Please be aware that for this hoard magic item, we have defaulted the weapon to a longsword. In the future we plan to make it so that such magic items allow the selection of the weapon type when the magic item is added to a character sheet. For now, if you wish to grant a Dragon’s Wrath Weapon, that isn’t a longsword, please use our homebrew tools in order to create a magic item using the appropriate Dragon’s Wrath Weapon, then change the base weapon to the one you want. Please do not publish this homebrew - it can be openly shared within any campaign that you are in without publishing.
https://dndbeyond.link/ftod_support
TY
I want to homebrew upon an item on Fizban's but I cannot select in the "Create Homebrew Item" interface.
Do you have any ideas why this is?
A player from my group bought the book and shared it with us.
Shared character options are available only within the campaign that’s sharing them.
Since the homebrew system is not inside any campaign, that means you need to own the item yourself to use it as a homebrew template.
However, if the player that does own it creates that homebrew, it will also be shared with the rest of your group.
So, even with content sharing on in my campaigns, my players over there cannot homebrew upon the content from my shared books. Is this correct?
Correct. Content will only appear in the homebrew builder as being available to copy when it is owned by that user. So the player that bought Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, who is sharing it with your group, will be able to create a homebrew copy of the Dragon's Wrath Weapon
In other words, content sharing does not apply to the homebrew system.
Understood. Perfect explanation. Thanks @wanton shard and @uneven lantern 🙂
Cannnot be briefer 🙂
Hi, team. I think I might have messed something up.
I created a Campaign and turned on content sharing. However, even though I can read Fizban's, players who join my campaign can't see it or have access to that content.
Happy to provide more details. My account is DeeEmSteve on D&DB. Thank you!
Oh, hmm! It looks like I have access to some sourcebooks like Tasha's and Fizban's, but when I go to share content in my campaign, it's not selectable for sharing! Does this mean when I got the Legendary Bundle, some books were missing? And that I'm seeing Tasha's and Fizban's due to someone else sharing them with me?
If you bought the legendary bundle before those books were released, your bundle does not contain those books. (However, you can purchase them for 15% off because you have the bundle.)
Assuming someone is sharing them with you, you won't be able to share them yourself.
Ahh, that makes sense. Is there an easy way for me to figure out which sources are tied to my account directly and which ones still aren't?
Yep! If you just head to the marketplace, there's a Filter button in the top right corner. Click that and turn off "Show Items I Own". Anything left is the things you don't own.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks
Alternatively, you can visit the page for any specific book and looks for the words "You already own this" up at the top.
Perfect, thanks for the speedy response here! I just shored up the rest of my library and checking now that my players can see the content!
If it doesn't show right away for them, have everyone go here and check whether their account entitlements are in sync:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
@lucid kayakYou want #homebrew, this channel is for getting help using the site
If you can't see that channel, head on over to #880965682462875679 and give yourself the appropriate role
sorry about that i used to have the role so i thought they merged the channel
hello, how can I change the "character sheet" in the webpage? I supossedly got the ones from Fizban's but I don't see where to see them
Hey the starting equipment button isnt going away and the inventory is kinda broke how do i fix this?
this is what i’m confused about its acting like a +1 weapon is this an error
Equipment Issues
That's strange. It doesn't show that +1 on the website. 🤔
I'll pass it along for review, though. Thanks!
It did initially until a few hours ago, probably why.
hey, i would like to run a grim hollow campaign. should i put all the subclasses and races in the dnd beyond campaign as homebrew, right?
Yes but don't publish them as that would not be allowed. You can still share unpublished homebrew in your own campaigns.
Yep, totally fine for private use. It will be shared with your campaign automatically.
But you should only publish your own original creations.
What were the bonuses for Fizban preordering? I preorder all the DnDBeyond stuff so i don't often check exactly what it is lol
TY+
Hey, so quick question.
I have the master subscription and the hard copy of the player's handbook. I enabled content sharing, but how do I share the book I have. (I bought it from my local comic store.)
You can't link hard copies of books to dndbeyond, they're seperate purchases; only digital copies bought in the platform can be shared. Of course, you can recreate your hard copy using the homebrew tools and share it with your group through dndbeyond.
So, should I see if I can return the book and get the online copy?
Depends on your purpose. Buying the PHB here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace, will unlock the compendium (i.e., all its contents) and all options (subclass, spells, etc.) for your campaign and can be shared using Content Sharing.
Buying it through other digital marketplace (roll20, fantasygrounds, or any other digital stores) won't unlock it in D&D Beyond.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/players-handbook: Using this link, you can also buy options piecemeal (e.g. just 1 subclass, all spells, just 4 feats, etc.) instead of the whole book.
Are dark/dragon/supernatural gifts, or epic boons implemented yet?
That’s correct.
We don’t currently have a way to model the Draconic Gifts presented in this book. We fully plan to support and implement these with the forthcoming Features System.
https://dndbeyond.link/ftod_support
Just a quick question, I have a few characters that have options labeled as 'archived' such as Kobold (archived) and Order of Scribes (archived)
That just means it's using an old Unearthed Arcana version of the option which has been archived and therefore labelled to differentiate from officially finalized material, if I'm not mistaken.
You are not mistaken. 👍
I was wondering if there was a way to add another weapon attack option to a magical weapon. I fould the Melee Weapon Attack modifier, but it doesn't seem to do anything
Can't find the individual purchase of Custom Lineage; any help?
I don’t believe there is an individual purchase for that, or for the optional class features. They’re only available with the full book purchase.
Oof
Is there a particular reason for that?
I don’t know exactly. That’s above my free, free paygrade. 😅
In the case of Custom Lineage, it may be that it’s not technically a race.
Eh, I suppose that could be a respectable reason
It's quite the feature to have that's 'allowed'
seeing how it's from an established source book
Good to know about the class features too, I was also wondering where those were
One of the players in my campaign I run, they have a phantom language.
Not sure where it comes from as hovering over it reveals no details
Draconic is the language in question
What does the Melee Weapon Attack modifier for homebrew magical items do?
It's probably a language gained from their background. A good number of them lets the player gain one (or more) language of their choice.
You are right! I just could not find it
Thank you 🙂
Yeah, it looks like they picked a custom background and didn’t give it a name.
Is there a way to make Weapon Attacks from custom feats magical?
Or is there a way to add additional attacks to a magic weapon?
I don’t believe there is for the first. Definitely not for the second.
Since making them magical or not has no real bearing on the character sheet itself, those cases are usually just text descriptions.
Is there a particular reason you need it flagged as magical?
I needed it for Avrae, and could of course use Avrae instead, but I thought it would be more straightforward to do it through Beyond and use the homebrew system there instead. If there is no way to implement it in Beyond itself then I'll just do it there instead
I don't see why the first option isn't available though since it should just be a simple toggle
Much like silvering a weapon
Yeah, you can definitely do it in Avrae.
Silvering exists in DDB because it does make a different to the character sheet — your inventory, specifically.
If and when the Encounter Builder grows to a point where you can designate targets, I imagine this would then be needed as well.
Hi, I am trying to find a way to use some kinds of mana points (which we call "energy points") instead of spell slots. Is there a way to add a numerical value on the character sheet and name it? or can I add some kind of feat with a type of points to emulate that?
don't post the same question in multiple channels, especially when you've already been answered (and pinged) in another
I'm assuming there's not a section for Dark Gifts/Draconic Gifts/Boons etc on char sheets yet right?
No, not yet, though those are planned to be supported as part of the upcoming Features System
Can't wait for that, btw. It's gonna be so good.
But in the meantime, custom Feats can fill in for them.
Hi,
I just joined the server, and I already made a character but how can I join a campaign someone else created?!?
look through #looking-for-players and direct message a DM that has posted, or #looking-for-community and join one
make a post in #750812887697588356 following the format
and groups are not instant, it can take a bit to finally get that mesh you click with.
Hi I'm trying to join a campaign from a friend of mine (he has PHB) and I created some characters in an other campaign which has alot more content unlocked but I didnt use any of that content and I still cant join the campaign
Hi there - the characters have been removed from the campaign they were originally created in, correct?
Cool, thought so, ta.
Ahh no... I just copied it for now, but I found out (copied exact the same) that I can only select 15 spells instead of 16 (https://ddb.ac/characters/60796198/gC07w6 - https://ddb.ac/characters/60187538/mhcz7U ) While at the old build I could pick 16
Do u know what misstake i made?
Dont watch the ability scores/hp for now as we are rolling for that on session 0
I believe the number of spells you can pick is based off your cleric level and casting modifier - so one character has +3 WIS and the other +4 WIS so the latter would get to pick an extra spell
Thanks! Lets hope im rolling good session 0... want str 13 for chain armor (even 15 ...) and wisdom/con high aswell
Not exactly a question, I know why i wouldnt be able to share a minor change to the Reborn. but the Link to Andresin is something that leads nowhere
That's a known issue with the automoderator that it sometimes flags the wrong thing for what your HB is too similar too
Ahhh okay
If it's for private use (you and your campaign), you can just ignore all those warnings anyway. They only apply if you're attempting to publish it to the global community.
I know. I was just more confused by the fact it's linking to something that doesnt exist. Clicking it gives a 404
I get those messages all the time for many different homebrew things, and they always lead to a 404. No exceptions.
The sorting system in the encounter builder, when you click sort by name doesnt really go alphabetically. How does the sorting by name work exactly?
either that or its being a bit buggy, just tag me in the answer
Seems like it's using ASCII sorting, wherein the space character comes "alphabetically" before any of the letters.
If you put two spaces in that first encounter there ("A simple"), then it will get sorted above any of the others that have a single space there.
So I'd double check to see if that does indeed have more than one space there. If it does, you can delete one and it should sort as expected.
I just checked, there aint a double space
Can you copy+paste that title here?
sure
Along with the one after it.
A simple transport mission: Water elemental
found it, there was a space before the A
thanks
Yep! That would do it, too. 😅
the copy showed an odd bit of blue before it XD
Hey there! I have a question regarding Dndbeyond's rules on homebrewed content. I want to know how to credit the artist for the images I use (I noticed I can't share with the community a monster if there is a link to the artist's page), how can I do this? I do have the artist's permission to use the image and post it on my creation, as long as it's properly credited. How can I do that?
Actually, images aren't even shown for published homebrew.
Oh, really? So how does it work?
Homebrew images are only ever seen if you share a campaign with the person who created the homebrew.
That makes sense! So there is no point in doing this...
It is kind of a bummer, it was a nice picture made specifically for this :/
Yeah. It's really only to prevent people from uploading inappropriate images. The few ruining it for the many. 😞
But if you want to share the image in #dnd-arts-and-crafts and credit the artist there, I'd love to see it.
Sure, I'll do that as soon as the monster's stats are ready 🙂
Thanks for the help!
There you go 🙂
Hello everyone, I have a huge question
so I was making a character with a homebrew race (it's identical to grung, just didn't want to pay) but for some reason my skills are off
can someone tell me what could be wrong
I'm having trouble putting a picture but it gave me a +13 in wisdom when it should be +5 (wisdom and proficiency)
Can you share a link to the character?
I'm still a bit new to dnd beyond, more used to the paper
i was planning on adding spells later, still haven't made up my mind
Hi all
So, I remember having to add a shipping address to DDB when I bought my first books, and now that I have moved and want to change it, I can't find where to do it. Can someone help?
DDB doesn’t sell any physical items, so there is no shipping address.
It does ask for a residential address during checkout, but only for calculating sales tax.
But it asks that every time you check out. It’s not a saved value that would need to be updated.
Hello,
I own a hard copy of one of the handbooks and I was wondering if there is a way to scan/put in a code to the website so I can view the book online as well?
There is not, I’m afraid. DDB is a separate company from WotC, so it’s complicated.
However, you can use the homebrew tools to recreate your book content for free.
Or you can purchase just the parts you need — like a single subclass — instead of the entire book.
Whatever you spend on those individual purchases get credited toward the cost of the book itself, too, in case you decide to get the rest later.
Alright, thank you
I have a friend who made a character in my campaign, but it's showing up as "unassigned". How do I fix this?
It sounds like they unassigned the character? They should be able to claim it from the campaign page.
I have an epic shield of crashing 😎
It doesn't add any bonuses and if i try to unequip it, it crashes bejond
Do you get the same issue in another browser, or on another device?
lemme check
Remove the shield and then re-add. Its a holdover bug from an incorrect update that the team had to rollback a couple of weeks ago
Oh.. soo it's like an.. Bugged Item?
No, the item is not bugged. Just remove the item from the sheet and readd a shield.
Sounds like something expensive and rare, gonna sell it on ebay as collectioners item, thanks..
"Dragon's Wrath" weapon doesn't come up in the character sheet inventory if you search with the 's in "Dragon's"
You can look it up as "Dragon Wrath Weapon", but not "Dragon*'s* Wrath Weapon"
Is there a way to make a homebrew class?
No
homebrew classes take a ton of work and playtesting to get just right generally unless u are super skilled at it or have dont it before
my suggestion is picking a different class close to it and mixing up the flavor and maybe a custom subclass
DDB also isn't designed in a way that we can create full homebrew classes
yeah
Subclasses at least have some sort of formula that can be followed to homebrew
But full classes? That's a lot of work.
i tried to do it once but ended up realizing i didnt know how to balence it and a warlock or cleric build would work fine
The D&D Beyond app broke on my device. It's bringing up this screen on the books and listings page. I've pressed retry, but it's unresponsive.
Even after updating just now, it's still broken
hey so I made a homebrew thing and I went to delete it,
it still shows up in manage inventory for character sheets... how can I remove that so it's not seen in the character sheets??
I deleted the homebrew item from my collections
How can I join a campaign? I’m new
Your DM will have to send you a join link
How?
They copy the link from their campaign and message it to you
This is not the channel to promote your campaign, or find a DM
You'll want to use #750812887697588356 or #looking-for-players, making sure to use the posting template
Hi, do you also have problem with past ecounters that cannot be deleted?
There's a known issue where unnamed encounters cannot be deleted
The current work around is to name the encounter, then delete it
If this doesn't work, you'll need to enter a customer support ticket
Does the dm of a campaign need to be subscribed in order to add public homebrew to a campaign or can a player be subscribed to let the dm have the ability to add Homebrew?
You don't add homebrew to a campaign; any homebrew a user has in their collection will be shared automatically
So no one needs a subscription to have their homebrew be shared, but they do need it to add public homebrew to their collection
The issue is that ASCII has more than one type of apostrophe. Searching with ' won't find it because it uses ’. Since the name doesn't match what you typed, it doesn't get displayed. You have to search for Dragon’s Wrath Weapon.
But I'll pass that along for review nonetheless. 👍
Ah, makes sense
Not end of the world type stuff, very minor, just thought I’d bring it up!
Sometimes homebrew edits can take up to 15 minutes before they're reflected on the character sheet. Is it still showing now?
App Library Issues
Ok, so if I, a player, would subscribe to Dnd beyond and add a public homebrew to my collection, it would appear in any campaign I join if I enable allow homebrew to the campaign and every other player and dm would be able to use it, correct?
You don't even need to enable anything yourself. Anything in your My Homebrew Collection gets shared with your campaigns automatically.
Any players who want to use that homebrew, though, will need to turn on Homebrew Content for their character before they'll see it, though.
Sounds good. Thanks for the fast response. 👍
Hello I have a question about Beyond Character sheets
does DnDBeyond not calculate Dex Modifiers/AC increases from Dueling/Duel Weilder/Shields?
My AC seems to only be coming from my chainmail
Can you provide a link to the character sheet? DDB should apply all those things
You have to make sure you have the items equipped and for dual wielder/dueling you have to set the 2nd weapon to indicate that
can you just copy the link?
Davyd is asking for a link to your character sheet
Lemme have a look
For starters, chain mail doesn't use your dex, it just gives you a flat AC of 16
https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment/chain-mail
oh my apologies
You don't appear to have a shield in your inventory, let alone one equipped, so that wouldn't apply
yeah im going two weapon fighting
so i should get +1 from Dual Weilder no?
or am i mistaken on that as well
Yeah
sorry the feat Dual Wielder
Defense
While you are wearing armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC.
You haven't marked either of your weapons as 'Dual Wield'
oh is that an option?
You'll need to click the weapon, selected 'Customise' and check 'Dual Wield'
ahhh
my bad didnt know that was an option
That will tell the sheet you're using both at the same time
ah i see
i need to select 1 as a dual weild and the other as a "main hand"
thanks for the help
Thanks i did that and it works! But two encaunters stay. If i rename themand save them they create just their copy. Does was encaunters with no enemies (i added them still cant remove them)
Then you'll need to contact customer services to have them removed: https://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
Is it possible to fork/clone a public character?
You can only copy a character you own
More questions about public homebrew.
Is it possible to edit someone else's homebrew for my campaign. Let's say I like a HB race, but I feel like one of the stats should be increased or decreased, am I capable of changing it?
Nope, you can only edit your own homebrew and only if you haven't published it
It is possible to get a copy of someone else's character, but not without their cooperation.
They need to make the copy themself, add it to a campaign, and unassign it.
Then if they send you the campaign invite link, you can claim it for yourself (and remove it from the campaign if needed).
That is kind of annoying 😦
I joined a local DND game but it was my first time and I didn't have time to create a character so I asked someone else to do it and I printed it out and filled it out.
But leveling is kind of a pain on paper so I thought I could just ask them for the link of the character and fork it.
But thanks for telling me how it would be possible anyways @uneven lantern
If they created the character for you, they just need to add it to the campaign and unassign it.
Then you can claim it for yourself.
Yeah, but it's not a dnd beyond campaign, it's in person.
And they don't generally have a lot of time so the more involvement it requires from them the worse.
Just use DnD Beyond to make them.
How do you add the super natural gifts from Theros to a character sheet?
is there an easy way to roll extra damage from a weapon like Crystal Longsword
or do you just manually roll a D8
At the moment, the best workaround is to create it as a homebrew feat (for private use only; don’t publish it).
The digital dice don’t yet add that extra damage on their own. You can either roll it manually, or set up a custom attack to get a rollable value.
You can do that on the Actions tab by clicking the “Manage Custom” button in the top-right corner.
Appreciate the tip on custom action!
How do you add a custom action to the attack tab?
There's a field in there called Activation Type.
Just set that to whatever section you want it to appear in: action, bonus action, etc.
You'll probably want to check the box for "Display as Attack", too, or you won't get the rollable box -- just the text description.
You can also make a home brew item and there is an option to do additional dice of damage, and I believe if you do it like that it works.
It does not.
how do you attach a character to a campaign that you're running without having to recreate the character in the campaign section
Just use the campaign invite link. You'll be able to pick an existing character to add.
Thank you!!
Hi there, I'm brand new here and have come to ask a question: I own a legendary bundle and a master subscription and was just contemplating slowly acquiring the material that has been released since my LB purchase. However, when I went in to look, it appears that I can read the entirety of these books already. (Namely Fizban's Treasury of Dragons and The Wild Beyond the witchlight.) I cannot add their content to characters but I can see all the monster stats and read the books front to back. Is this normal?
Sounds like someone else in one of your campaigns is sharing those books with you.
Any shared character options are available only to characters inside the campaign that's sharing it.
If you do end up buying those books yourself, then you'll be able to use those options sitewide.
Is there a way to specifically search DDB for cursed magic items?
turns out it's not DM sharing. My only DM doesn't own those books
Any other thoughts?
It doesn’t have to be the DM. When content sharing is enabled for a campaign, the purchased game content from everyone in the campaign gets shared.
Oh, that makes it make sense. So one of my PLAYERS likely has those?
Well I have dozens of players lol
Thanks again
You might narrow it down by finding out which campaign lets you view those shared options on a character sheet.
But then you’d have to ask the players from there.
i need help writing my first campaign i have a basic introduction to the world and one npc and basic plot
@jade depot You probably want to head to #dm-discussion if you have specific questions about DMing. This is just for help with the site.
Most if not all of them have the Cursed tag.
Sure - I dont see a way to search for tags on magic items?
nvm im a fool
ahhh my brain skipped over it
Thank you
hello, i am unable to find blackrazor in the "add items" tab
Do you own the DMG? Is it shared with you?
i own the DMG
Screenshot?
How do you do the +/- again?
Uncheck “Container”. It’s not a container.
It is not a common item. Also, everyone can see the TOC.
What +/-?
Yeah, you're just searching common magical items.
i just have proficient and magical selected
nothing
This shows everything checked.
Not in that screenshot, you didn’t.
Are you proficient in great swords?
||Just saw this is DDB help whoops||
I mean like the what’s it called I think ability bonuses?
i am a barbarian
Do you have a space after black?
nope
Ty
Try it like this.
Just FYI, this channel is for help with D&D Beyond specifically. For general game questions, I’d suggest asking in #dnd-rules.
Can you double-check and make sure there’s a checkmark next to that weapon here in the marketplace?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/dungeon-masters-guide
The install update button is stuck
If I press it is says updating but nothing happens
And while it is "updating" I can't do anything in the app
If I exit and relaunch the app the install button is there again
I don't want to delete and reinstall the app because I would have to download all the books again and I don't really wanna do that
I let it "update" for 5-10 mins and nothing happened
Might need to give it a bit? I just now got the update for the app itself to show the book
Try force stopping your app. Then reboot your phone. That'll likely solve the issue. You should also see if DDB has an update available in your app store.
No update, already tried that. I also tried deleting the app cache.
Did you reboot your phone? If not try that, then if it's still not working wait a couple hours.
What version of the app are you using? You can find it by clicking the "B" in the top-left corner there, then scrolling to the bottom.
Hey everyone! I had a question if anyone knows, I’ve been trying to see if there are any videos about it but haven’t found any. Is there a way to homebrew firearms from scratch instead of reskinning one? Like how bad news seemed to be its own thing. I’m playing a gunslinger but I can’t seem to make any changes to the range or damage of the reskin of like a musket or revolver
For instance my dm said it’s cool if my musket had a dark vision scope that he can use to see through since he’s a human but can’t seem to figure that out
I’m still new to homebrewing
@torn loom no, you can't make new base weapons using DnD Beyond. Maybe some day since it's frequently asked about. But not today.
Hey, not sure character sheet is calculating my damage right for darts. I have the ranged and thrown weapon styles, +1 dart with infusion on it, Max Dex, and is giving me only a +6 to damage when it should be +8.
https://ddb.ac/characters/60947686/DqJHyC
Yeah, not at the moment. You might have more luck creating it as a custom action directly on your character sheet. Just head to the Actions tab and hit the "Manage Custom" button in the top-right corner.
The Thrown Weapon Fighting Style isn't currently automatically implemented. From the TCoE Issues & Support thread:
Fighting Style - Thrown Weapon Fighting. Displays information on the character sheet, but does not automatically increase damage on throwing weapons. If you take this fighting style for a character, please use the character sheet and select valid weapons, customizing them to add the +2 damage. We are working on a solution for this known issue.

Thanks! I want this silly build to look as impressive as it can.
Thanks! I think I can make that work 👍🏽
hey guys when i try to roll the dice in dnd beyond it lags very much what should i do?
It might be your hardware. DnD Beyond rolls the dice to generate the numbers. They aren't just for a fun visual.
Do you have limited resources? Like low ram, cpu or a dated graphics card?
You need to make sure hardware acceleration is enabled in your browser
How you do this depends on what browser you're using
Google "Enable hardware acceleration in [browser name]"
it worked thx
Is there a reason DND Beyond doesn't show cantrips in spell list when exporting as PDF?
Is there some kind of setting?
Because a PDF I got from a friend has them in the spell list but when I exported my own character they weren't there.
They’re showing on the PDF I made just now.
Did they create the PDF before adding their cantrips? The file does get cached for a short time, so if you check it, make any immediate changes, and check again, then those changes probably won’t show.
On a similar note, how long has it been since that one was made? Are they still missing if you make a new one now?
Oh, i think I just missed that tab and never selected any 😦
That would also do it, yeah.
You can add them by going to Spells and clicking the “Manage Spells” button.
Yeah, i found it now
And again, watch out for that PDF caching. If they don’t show up in the file right away, you might need to wait a few minutes.
What is it again, the two hardest problem in computer science, naming, and cache expiration ;D
You weren't kidding about cache invalidation, almost 10 min and it still hasn't updated
RIP literally caches so long I have to leave for my DND session 😄
You might try a private window or another browser? I’m not sure if it’s a local or server-side cache, or how long it takes.
Or if checking extends the duration… <_<
I get the new version now, maybe I can still squeeze it in
Yeah i was worried about a sliding cache
I have looked all through my character sheet, and cannot find where you track superiority dice. I'm probably missing something really obvious... please help if you can.
You should see a group of checkboxes under Actions > Action > Superiority Dice.
And again under Features & Traits > Combat Superiority.
thank you
have they removed the UA from DDB web for character creation? is not how can i activate them i just dont remember
They're no longer doing UA, and it cannot be enabled anymore for new characters.
We at D&D Beyond regret to inform you that we will no longer be supporting Unearthed Arcana content on our platform.
While we have loved giving use...
thanks for the info
You can still use the homebrew tools to create them for your own private use if you'd like. (Just don't publish them.)
Version 2.4.4
(12459)
Nvm it's gone now
4th reboot seemed to do the trick
Good to hear!
Just glad I don't have to redwonload 4.65 GB of books :))
How do I enable die rolling on my character sheet without the 3d dice effect?
the 3d dice chugs my CPU for some odd reason and causes major lag.
why is it set up like that?
To make the numbers.
They could make it generate a number and either just display the result or roll a die that lands on said result as a toggle though.
the option would be nice for computers that can't take the chugging and lag it induces.
They'd have to reprogram how it's made and use an RNG.
They wanted the dice rolled to make the number. Same as at a table.
How does it not already use RNG, don't tell me it's a literal physics simulation each time?
Yes.
It's a reasonable request to have a separate RNG for slow computers though.
But yeah, it's a physics simulation of a virtual dice that makes the number you get on dnd beyond.
It not exactly help I need but asking when a sale might happen for like source books
They announce it on like twitter. Nothing lined up for now. The closest would probably be a black Friday or cyber Monday sale.
how would I go about to add a Draconic Gift to a ddb character sheet
Can't do it yet.
Is there a way too add spell spots to a character?
only via adding an action to the sheet saying "You may cast a spell of xth level" or something similar.
Ahh ok. I was trying to figure out something like the boon of high magic how to add it in but wasn’t sure.
I figured. <3
We don’t currently have a way to model the Draconic Gifts presented in this book. We fully plan to support and implement these with the forthcoming Features System.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/123752-fizbans-treasury-of-dragons-issues-and-support
In the meantime, you can potentially use a homebrew feat as a workaround. (For private use only. Please don’t publish it.)
Unsure if this is the right place to ask, but If I create a Campaign and enable content sharing, specifically sharing adventures, do players within that campaign get the ability to look up the adventure chapters or are they limited to the player options within it?
Once content sharing is enabled, you’ll find a “Content Management” button. If you click that, you’ll be able to restrict them from reading any shared book of your choice (unless they own it themself).
And they’ll still be able to use the character options either way.
Hi all, struggling a bit, trying to create a homebrew weapon, essentially a warhammer +1 that uses WIS instead of STR
tried a few thing but always using STR for 'to hit'
anyone know how to accomplish this?
Hello, folks! I just had something weird happen. I made some characters for my game and I copied the "share" links for each character and put them in a document. I tested the links before putting them in the document AND I tested them from in the document and everything worked fine, so I shared it with my players. But now, some of the links don't work. I get an internat server error (see screen shot). It isn't a big deal right now, but is there a fix for this or what? Thanks!
Also, my players for some reason aren't able to choose "unassigned" characters in the campaign.
How to create a gem dragonborn in dndb? I have the new fizban's sourcebook unlocked, but the drop down menu only shows me chromatic/metallic.
You don't select them as a type of the main dragonborn, they're their own variant
Do you get the same problem in another browser, or on another device?
Do they have an available character slot on their account? Free accounts are limited to 6 characters. If they’ve got 6 already, they won’t be able to claim another.
Haven't tested. As for available characters, I'll have to check. Thanks.
Did you purchase the book yourself?
If it’s being shared with you through a campaign, you’ll only be able to use it for characters in that campaign.
That's it!
It was in my cart but never purchased, and my DM had shared it with our campaign
#facepalm
Just a heads up, that modifier makes all magic items use WIS.
(or their regular ability, whichever is highest)
I think there’s a Weapon Property modifier type.
Then pick the specific property you need for the subtype.
I am having an issue that I am wondering if anyone else has run into. I created an 8th level rogue and attached it to my campaign. When I look at the campaign, and encounter builder though it appears as a level 1 rogue with no race. But when I click on view within the campaign character line up... he is level 8.
Do you have it set to use XP? And does the XP level match the number of class levels you’ve assigned?
oh i see it.. do you just add multiple new modifiers or is there a way to add multiple to one
Yeah, if you need multiple properties just add multiple modifiers.
appreciate it
i just need it for difficulty rating encounters. he is an NPC. And I have it set to milestone so XP (in my mind) shouldn't matter?
apparently it just needed 10 minutes to decide that he had leveled up. Perhaps I had a particular tab open that was messing with the system recognizing the changed character sheet?
Yeah, maybe just a caching issue, then. All good now, though?
Yeah squared away. Thanks. 😄
Is there a way to track concentration on a character sheet, similar to the toggöe dot that tracks inspiration? perhaps it could be toggled on automatically when casting a concentration spell
Not currently, no.
Can you change the name of a campaign on ddb
Yeah, if you scroll down and hit “Edit Notes”, there should be an option to change the name as well.
You could potentially create a homebrew magic item for it. Equip it when concentration starts, and unequip when it ends.
Or a homebrew feat. You can give it an Action with a Limited Use checkbox.
it's not that important. I was wondering if I might be missing something. Some of my players on occasion cast multiple concentration spells at once, and double checking every spell they cast for concentration can be bothersome, so I thought maybe there's a mechanic that makes it easier for my players to track it themselves
is there a way to hide an action?
i made the homebrew item but it seems to be taking the weapons usual damage block over my custom one so i wanted to replace it with a custom action but id rather not 2 copys of basically the same weapon on the sheet
this is what im looking at for reference since im bad at explaining
i want to get rid of the 1d8 Greatbow but its the actualy physical item
click it and at the bottom there should be a remove item
i dont want to get rid of the item because of attunment tracking and weight
i just dont wont the action showing and have it replaced with my custom action
Click on it, open the Customize menu in the sidebar, and uncheck “Display as Attack”.
ohhhh
oh srry didnt see that other part ><
thats perfect thanks again!
sadly it doesnt seem like replace damage type does what i hoped it would
the damage type works just no changing the dies and die count
While we are talking about displaying items as attacks, is there a way to change a dagger to show as thrown instead of melee?
And also how do I look up the rules for two-weapon fighting? Searching DDB for basic things seems a lot more complicated than just reading a book
search bar
Searching for it gives results for every book that references the mechanic in any way, and the regular PHB rules are buried between a ton of results.
you want the compendium
is what im seeing
Is there a way to do that in app? I see dozens of results and none of them are what you’re getting
Pages and pages of this
for the dagger you can change the name or make a custom
I’m looking at customize and that doesn’t seem to be an option
nah he means make a new custom action
thats customizing an action
click manage custom in the top right
of the action screen
I’m a new player. Is there a good place to find out what all of these should be?
its not too difficult
attack type you can skip(this is for natural weapons like bite or claw)
range since this is a thrown item click ranged
stat this is the damage scaling the weapon will use(thrown weapons generally use strength)
but finess means its either
so just select your modifier
1d4 for dagger, how do I determine range?
dice count is how many dice you roll(in this case 1)
die type is the type of die you use in this case a 4
fixed value is if it tacks on range because its a magic item or something so you can skip that
range is going to be the thrown dagger range for daggers thats 20
long range is the max range of the ranged weapon in this case daggers are 60
if this was a bow it would be 150/600 for example
aoe type and size are specifically for spells or bombs
so we can ignore those
activation type is what you need to do to deal the damage you probobly want that to be an action
unless you plan on throwing them as a bonus action
Nope
activation time you can skip thats for spells with duration or something similar
Then as a Rogue I click proficient and display as attack
yep and click display as attack
Thanks
If it helps, the only thing that really changes for when you throw a dagger is the range and not the modifiers or damage, IIRC. And that range already appears in the standard dagger you have in your equipment, so technically you wouldn't really need to add a custom action for a thrown dagger, just know the range and declare when you want to throw instead of stabbing
that too
For example, here I have my dagger. It says melee so I can use it within 5 ft, but it also has a range so I can throw it
forgot when i started explaining that daggers have finess
and it applies to being thrown
so i was thinking at the start that Daggers thrown use strength(which the can but its your choice)
Yeah, it's happened to me too; I get confused with the throwing rules sometimes
Hmm the notes don’t seem to work in the app
Like I can add them but they’re not displayed.
Are you looking at the dagger through the Inventory or the Actions tab?
