Here you can get it for $1.99 USD.
Sorry another question, if i just buy the handbook is everything below included?
if you buy the PHB, everything in the PHB is included, yes.
Ok, thanks....
I am a new member here, seeking someone to help me build my story.
I have been a DM for kids at my work as a social guardian, and now, i am trying to make a world for some of my friends.
Would somebody be interested in listening to me talk about my story, and maybe adding new fun ideers?
Its a small developed world now, so it needs alot of work š
send me a friend request, and lets voicechat š
Thanks
@proven solar This channel is for getting help using the D&D Beyond website
You probably want to check out #dm-discussion
and don't post the same message in multiple channels.
im sorry š
Won't happen again
Hello all.
I believe this is the correct place to post about this issue.
I have slight issue when attempting to multi-class my rogue into warlock. I initially multi-classed into Pact of the Fiend Warlock. However, after chatting to my DM, we decided that Pact of the Great Old One would be better.
When I attempted to adjust from Pact of the Fiend, it would not give me any other options.
I would appreciate it if anyone knows what I might be doing wrong.
Here is a link to the character.
https://ddb.ac/characters/40679436/cz7DjG
Screenshot of the issue
you need to buy the other pacts on dnd beyond or be in a campaign where someone shares their bought content with you. fiend warlock is the only free one
The character is in a campaign where content sharing is enabled.
My backup character in the campaign is a warlock, pact of the undead.
Great Old One is from PHB, I highly doubt it would be a sharing issue
Just want to see if it is my mistake before I send a ticket.
we probably need to have ddb mods or staff weight in on the matter
Would sending a ticket be the best option?
dunno, this might be solved here in chat. I dont know the work times of the support staff, they might take the weekend off, so that could take longer
it's not a mega rush as I will be playing as my backup character for a couple of sessions (due to story related reasons)
From what I can see, the character you linked does not appear to be assigned to any campaign.
To use any shared character options, they need to be assigned to the campaign thatās sharing it.
Ah, thanks. I hadn't realised that the DM had deactivated my character in the campaign.
roll 4 drop the lowest method
whats the avrae cmd for that? idk sry
ty sry
Yep, I can confirm that was the issue
Thanks
It rolls 4d6, then drops the lowest result
Yep, which is the official method provided for rolling your ability scores.
Im trying to make a weapon that allows a player to cast two spells once per long rest but can't seem to make it work, any advice.
What part did you need help with?
Does anybody know how the homebrewing system for subclasses works?
What were you trying to figure out?
Thereās a good article here that walks through the basics:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/845-new-players-guide-how-to-homebrew-on-d-d-beyond
You can also make a homebrew copy of any of the official subclasses. Then you can dig in and see exactly how they were set up.
Noted
I've been trying to get help all over the internet, even offered cash. Maybe that'll help
Like I know what I want it to do, it's more just the mechanical issues
What part has you stuck?
Mainly staggering optional abilities by level
I actually think I might've figured something out though thanks to this, I'll let ya know
Just remember it can sometimes take up to 15 minutes for homebrew edits to show up on your character sheet.
So if you donāt see it change right away, just give it a sec.
So I've basically gotten it perfected, thank you. HOWEVER
new issue is at level 20 the subclass glitches and idk why
Glitches how?
So I messed up the options chart, and made it have more options than it needed. Everything up until 20th level is the proper number of options, proper scaling, proper level caps etc
At level 20 however, it suddenly reverts back to the dozen unnecessary options route
Whatās the text description for that feature?
Oh its not an issue with the description. The issue mainly came from me not understanding how the option thing worked
the whole 2,2,4,5,5,6 thing
Nah, I was curious to see the description to know what you were trying to do.
But for that, itās the number of choices at each level.
ohhhhhhhh
So in your example there, 2,2,4,5,5,6, they pick two options at level 2, one at 4, two at 5, and one at 6.
Got it. Yeah, I misinterpreted that as like, you have 2 options at level 2, you go down to one at 4, up to 2 at 5 and so on
so um... I can't sign into Beyond.
It finally let me put in my password, the window closed... aaaand I'm not signed in
Hikari got in, by the way. dunno what happened, but it's fixed now
We have a lot of useful information pinned in #dnd-discussion
This channel is more for getting help using the site

How can I add a feat where the Charakter donāt met the prerequisites?
There is a toggle one the first page (Home) of the character builder down near the bottom. Should say "Feat Prerequisites"
make sure it is turned off/is gray and you should be able to add any feat regardless of requirement
Ahh awesome! I will try that
Hey just a question about the Encounter Creator, can I add already existing encounters to Campaigns i created? or is there someway to categorize them into folders? until now I've just sorted them by putting things like "wood.orcs" and "Swamp.Orcs" but the more encounters i create the harder it is to find them.
@uneven lantern i know how to make it "1 charge" but I can't see a way to make so it has two spells each that can only be used once.
When you edit the encounter, there should be a Manage Characters button at the top. You can select your campaign in there.
Yeah, the magic item system is designed to use charges because thatās how all the official items work. If this is for private use, you might have more luck creating a description-only item for your inventory, and then attaching the spells to a homebrew feat instead.
Ahhh understood! Thanks!
thank you very much, never noticed that
I might be doing something stupid, but I can't see a Run Encounter button inside the My Encounters -> [Encounter Name] screen. Is running them only available at a certain subscription tier? Thanks!
The combat tracker (where you run encounters) is still in alpha and so only accessible to subscribers
I see, thank you!
hello. I seem to be having a problem with dnd beyond and sharing my character sheets. I don't know when this started, but today I tried sending someone the link for one of my characters, and they cannot see it. I have tried this with multiple people (and multiple characters) with no success. Any ideas?
Thereās an issue with that right now that happens if the user is not signed in.
If they sign in, they should be able to view it just fine, though.
Is there anywhere I can read about what functionality exists in the My Campaigns feature? I was trying to find if the DM is able to make live changes to the character sheets of players within a campaign while it's ongoing (e.g. giving out an item during a session), but can't find any documentation. Thanks!
A DM can make changes to their player's character sheets, but it won't be live updating so you'd have to refresh the page once they do.
Thanks! So if you were running a session that involved giving out a magic item, would it be best/easier for a player to add that themselves rather than the DM? I'm not even aware if that's something they're able to do or not.
P.S. Is there anywhere I can read up on this to avoid inane questions?
It would probably be easier for them to add it themselves, yes. They can do so by going to the equipment tab on their sheet and clicking on "Manage Equipment" in the top right.
And I could be wrong, but I don't think so?
Appreciate it <3
No problem! Feel free to ask any other question you may have here!
I am adding a cleric to a campaign with Tasha's. I can't select Order Domain. All the other domains are present.
flip the Magic: the Gathering content switch, since it was first introduced in Ravnica
yep.
its first appearance was in MTG content, thus it is tagged as such.
What Neut & Auditor said (Also haaaiiii long time no talk!)
The Origin Ability Score Increase for the goblin race does not work correctly, and doesn't let you select your actual scores.
Thank you all and hi Sorce!
Can you try refreshing the page?
yes I did. And a friend of mine had the same issue
Is the Origin Ability Score Increase still enabled after the refresh? I wonder if it didnāt save for some reason.
Seems to work fine on my end, though.
Are you able to share a screenshot of yours?
And just to be safe: after you enabled the feature in the Origin Manager tab, did you switch back to the Racial Traits tab to make the selection?
So I was going to separately purchase the "Order Domain" for clerics from Tasha's cauldron, but I can only find the "Peace/Twilight Domain" on the page in the ddb store... is this...right? xD I mean is this an error or is there a reason one single subclass can't be purchased?
Ah, individual options are only purchasable from the original book they were published it
The order domain was first published in Guildmasters guide to Ravnica so can be purchased there
That explains so much. Thank you, case solved š
Is there a way to see shared books in the ddb app?
Yeah, you should be able to download and view any books shared via content sharing
It seems to not be working. I have the PHB shared and when I go to pull it up on the mobile app, it says "Buy the phb for $60"
A quick thing to check would be that you're signed in with the right account on the app?
Yes, Tokyofire on both. I tried hitting restore purchases and that did not work
And you can access the players handbook normally on the website?
Okay, well in that case I'm gonna suggest you put in a customer support ticket here: https://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
By all accounts the content should be accessible via the app
Ok, Thank you sir
Would anyone be able to help me figure out why my Kobold is showing up as a Kobold Kobold?
Nevermind, I got it sorted. I made their gender Kobold, so that's why it's showing up that way
So on the dndbeyond app I cannot seem to download The Elemental Evil Players Companion
Hi all,
Can multiple people (as in 4) access my dnd beyond account and edit the character sheets with their edits being saved? I just wrote up my party's characters onto my account and just wanted to know if i could have my friends edit them without them making their own acc. It just makes it easier for our party. Cheers!
this would all be simultaneous btw
Sharing accounts is against DDB's terms of service, so that would be inadvisable.

okay is there a way i can transfer characters ive made on my account to the accounts my friends have? I seem to be able to share the characters but they can't edit or save them
Yes. Create a campaign with the characters you want to transfer. Unclaim those characters. Then, have your friends join the campaign through the invite link and have them claim those characters. They'll be transferred to their accounts upon claiming.
okay okay cool
To put the characters into the campaign, you'll have to use the invite link yourself several times and select the characters you want to join.
thanks so much! Its 1 am and i have to run the campaign tomorrow so i really appreciate your help
by unclaim you meant unassign yes?
Yes, sorry
okay all good, just clarifying haha
Is anyone having issues with fields not loading while editing monsters? It's been going on for a couple of days now, and only with Beyond, so I'm running out of problems on my end of things.
Do you have any extensions that may be interfering, such as Beyond20, AboveVTT, any ad-blockers, or VPNs?
Nope. It just keeps saying "loading", so I wanted to see if it was site wide or just my problem.
Do you have the same problem if you try using the editing tools in a different browser, or in Incognito mode?
It seems to have only been an issue in Safari, but I did a reboot and it seems to have cleared it up. Thanks for the assistance @wanton shard !
Idk if it's the right channel but when I try to log in or sign in on dnd beyond nothing happen when I click to log with a google account. Can someone help me ?
Do you have any extensions that may be interfering? Ad-blockers, VPNs, Beyond20, AboveVTT, etc.? You might also be blocking third-party cookies, which Google requires for its log-in service.
In the latter case, if you're using Google Chrome, you can go to chrome://settings/cookies and manage your settings to allow third-party cookies
Yep I have extension but I also tried to log in with edge (which has no extension since I don't use it) and it was the same
Ok, I'll try
Help: How do I turn off Underdark mode?
You click on your character's portrait in the character sheet at the top left. A menu should appear, and in that menu there should be a large toggle for it.
Is there any way to buy both the digital and physical copies of a book at close-to-normal price?
If by "close to normal price", you mean the ability to pair a digital copy with the purchase of a physical copy so as to not have to purchase the same book twice, then no, there isn't.
Thank you Jace
Hasbro is going to be selling off WotC so I dont think they will be picking up any new debt right now.
That's not at all trueāWizards of the Coast was upgraded to a subsidiary of Hasbro just a few months ago, making them make up a third of the company.
Oh good
Yes I know. And they are also settling all of the law suits. Both actions make them a more valuable asset to sell. Hasbro is done dealing with all of the WotC/Magic drama.
App question - are the rolls in the app visible in the gamelog? I think i read that they do, though I'm testing it rn and I don't see the app rolls in the desktop gamelog. It also does not update avrae I got set up in one of my discord channels, so I assume it's not feeding the rolls to the gamelog or the ddb server.
mayhaps there's a setting somewhere I'm missing : )
They should be visible in the Gamelog, but if the issue persists you may want to check the default "send to" setting at the top of the desktop gamelog.
Yeah, though I am talking about the mobile app. It works on desktop. On mobile the same character has some problems. When i tap the gamelog icon i get a screen informing that 'welcome to game log, when you are in a campaign at d&d Beyond you canview and share your dice rolls with other players and your DM'
(I'm sure the char is in the campaign, I am the DM, works on desktop, as mentioned above)
Was having you check that since this particular dropdown isn't available in the mobile app yet to my knowledge
Is your mobile device connected to the internet or on data in any way?
I'm not sure what the problem is then. You can create a support ticket here: https://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
thanks, will do š
I saw "DARK THEME" for character sheets yesterday, and now its gone?
I can't stand the bright white
oh, now I see it, UNDERDARK MODE
I'd really like to see a variety of colour combinations not just white on black and white on white.
So, I'm joining a campaign with some friends, and as a DnD beginner I don't have a good rule book (I have the ST one but its not as thorough) and a good guide to making a character. Anywhere I could find a more advanced rule book / Character guide? (For Free or very cheap)
idk if im supposed to ask here or?
@formal zinc there are the basic rules on DnD Beyond. Or you mean you need help to make a character? Or you mean you want more character creation options?
Alright thanks, Character creation is a bit tough for me tho lol. Which is why im wondering if there is a guide anywhere
Sure, there are a lot of guides. DnD Beyond makes making a character very easy though and if you turn on the tutorial it should help you through most of it.
The main parts of character creation are picking a Race, Class and Background. And assigning ability scores. That's pretty much all ya need.
Alright thanks.
If you have specific questions feel free to ask here or you can DM me.
That's not broken. It's just a feature description.
You don't pick it yet. You pick it later.
Oh alright
It's just listing the things the race gives you.
casting fire ball while submerged under water getting dragged away in rapids... able to cast or dead to rights?
I mean, you're able to cast it, but everyone fully submerged resists the damage.
also that would be a #dnd-rules, this channel is for help using the site
my bad

Hello, is there any active coupon right now?
Not currently, no. If there are, they'll be announced on social media as well as site banner pop ups
thanks
Hey i'm kinda new to DnD Beyond is there a way to make a subclass im homebrewing right now automatically give the player a choice of certain skill checks to be Prof. in?
There is! Create your class feature first. You'll see a box called "Class Levels Where Options Known". That's how you control when they choose and how many they get.
1,1,5 for example would let them choose two at level 1, and one more at level 5.
Is there a way to do same thing for a sub race too?
Yeah. That's where this next part comes in.
how can i modify the AC and SAVES in DDB? Cant find it anywhere
After that, you need to create an Option for each available choice, and give it the necessary Modifiers.
In this case, you'd add one called "Stealth" (for example), and give it a modifier with Type: Proficiency and Subtype: Stealth.
Then repeat it for whichever other proficiencies they can pick.
You can adjust them directly on your sheet. Just click the one you want to change, then open the Customize section in the sidebar.
oh ok tnx
@uneven lantern It worked thank you for the help.
what do i have to buy in tashas to get access to the new ranger stuff?
The Optional Class Features and Customize Your Origin require the full book purchase to be utilized in the Character Builder
awesome thanks xd
Hello! š I have a homebrewed character race that will not populate one of her key racial features under actions or features & traits, I was wondering if I'm missing a field during the homebrew process that is causing this? If anyone is available to take a look, that'd be so great!
Part of it may be due to caching. If you made edits to the race after originally creating it, it can take 15-20 minutes to populate onto the character after you've saved the changes. "Refreshing" the character by bumping them up and back down a level can sometimes help.
You might also want to make sure that āHide in Sheetā is unchecked, and that āFeature Typeā is set to āGrantedā.

so, im working on a homebrew monster, is there a way to set a custom sub-type?
along with that, any way to do the same for monster enviornments?
Thereās a field for subtype right next to the field for monster type.
Itās a text field, so you can type whatever you want in there.
And then near the bottom, thereās a box for Monster Environments.
You can enter any/all of the official environments in that one.
when I click out of the box, both of them just delete the text I typed if its a non-official one
Ah, subtype isnāt a plain text field. My mistake.
In that case, yeah, youāre only able to select from the options provided.
alright
Is there a reason that PerimeterX keeps thinking my phoneās Firefox browser is a bot? Iām starting to get very annoyed with the Press & Hold page.
What is PerimeterX? This channel is for help with D&D Beyond's website and services.
Itās the bot protection that dndbeyond.com uses
If I havenāt opened the site on my phone in a little while, I will often come to a page that has me press and hold a button to prove Iām human
My suggestion is to first disable any VPN you use and any addons you have installed.
I do not have any VPN set up on my phone.
Iāll double check, but I donāt think you can install add-ons on Firefox for iOS.
Doesnāt look like it.
It could also be something like cookie settings, having too many tabs in the background pinging at it, a torrent client, etc. Most of the anti-bot things cover a large swathe of sites and services and gathers heuristic data from them.
Iāve found that my own iOS Firefox triggers it when I switch between mobile and desktop view.
But thatās the only time I ever run across it.
Interesting, Iāve been trying to figure out how to get it to come up for testing. Usually Iām trying to do something else when it comes up. Then once Iām in, Iām in for long enough to do a thing
If that is regularly replicable you may want to report it to Mozilla as that would be something weird they're doing triggering it.
Itās probably some tracking script from perimeterx gets blocked by Mozilla, but Iāll let them know if it keeps happening
Thanks, all
sorry if this is a stupid question - is it possible to print monster stat blocks from DDB?
For personal use, it should be the same as photocopying from the book you bought.
We are going from online to IRL game and I'd like to have the statblock on paper. I only own digital copies of the book.
You can print the page, although there is no dedicated printer friendly view
If I need to print stat blocks, I use a screen snipping tool and past them into word and print that
However, this should only be done for personal use and not any form of distribution
Yep it's personal use. Thanks for the help, I'll see if I can find a printer friendly version and if not will so what you suggested.
Beside the point Neut š
ā¤ļø
It's a big fight and I'm trying to find ways to make running it more efficient. It's my first session as DM in person.
One other thing you can do is highlight the text of the stat block, right click, and select print
This will give you a less ink intensive version
Hmm actually just been playing around with the Combat Tracker. I didnt realise you could bring up the stat blocks so easily. I think I'll just use that š
š The tracker is great for viewing a lot of stat blocks
Ooh it even brings up spell descriptions when you hover over it
I have a player in a campaign. We recently just switched him up from Level 9 Paladin to Level 6 Paladin/Level 4 Sorcerer for reasons. On his character sheet he no has spells going up to level 4 but from my understanding he should only have spells up to level 2? The available spells he can choose from only go up to level 2. Is there some sort of Sorcerer mechanic that allows an upcast to level 4 which is the reason? The character sheet in question - https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/ybc718/characters/38133341
Paladins and Sorcerers have different progression in spell levels
Multiclassed spellcasters get slots that increase in level, regardless of the highest-level spells they actually know: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/phb/customization-options#Spellcasting
This means that yes, they may only know up to 2nd-level spells, but those spells can be upcast using higher-level slots. Or, used for paladin smites. š
Awesome, gonna have one happy player then š
If I own the sourcebook bundle and three adventures, could anyone tell me why the legendary bundle is more expensive than the adventure bundle?
If you purchased any of those bundles or books with a discount code, that'll affect the price of the remaining bundles
The discount on the bundles remaining is based on how much you've spent, not the current value of the books you own
Is it possible for the DM to make generic rolls in DNDBeyond, or is all rolling tied to character sheets?
The can indeed
A DM can roll from the encounter builder or combat tracker (requires subscription). If either is linked to a campaign, then the rolls will appear in the game log
That makes sense, thanks. So a workaround would be to make like a generic encounter that just covers all random rolling and keep that open?
Yeah, that's what I do
So I had just purchased the Essentials Kit Bundle and I can't seem to access it, how do I access it?
There should be a code inside the box that you can redeem. You can find further instructions here:
https://dndbeyond.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025446474-How-to-redeem-the-codes-from-the-D-D-Essentials-Kit
Any method for adding additional spell slots that will import with Avrae?
Or additional slot levels?
Not currently, no.
Thought so. Just wanted to confirm.
I bought the digital version of the Essentials Kit Bundle, not the physical. I don't know where to access the content.
It should be under sources on the website
From your character sheet, click the top right three bars > sources > (sourcebook/adventure)
I'm looking at the desktop version on mobile so might be slightly different.
Yeah, all books are accessed through the Sources menu in the site navigation. The first of those books is Dragon of Icespire Peak, which you can find here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/doip
Half Elf isn't a variant, it's its own race. If you mean the subraces for Half Elf, yes those are in a specific book. Let me look which one it is up for you real quick.
It's the Sword Coast Adventurer's guide. If you don't want the book and you just want the subraces, you can get them on their own a la cart.
thank you
Thereās also two dragonmarked half elves from ERFTLW.
Hello, I accidentally published some homebrew stuff a while back and I thought I had managed to delete it all. I just saw that theyāre still up, and I was wondering if thereās a way to remove them from the public domain. Otherwise, should I just report them and explain the situation?
They cannot be unpublished, which is why you get several warnings about that exact thing when you try to do so.
Darn, thatās unfortunate - sorry to bug you!
how do i see if i have backgrounds for my char sheets and how do i apply them ?
Click on the gear on your character's sheet then check out your backgrounds.
Unless you mean character creation backgrounds lol
no the first one is correct thx...ill check it out
If it helps: The images used as backgrounds for the character sheets are referred to on D&D Beyond as backdrops. As a way to try to avoid confusion with the character creation Background. š
thx a lot guys...just found it and applied it
From the Twitch chat @naive lodge
This has already been passed along to the appropriate team š But thanks for bringing it to attention!
I would imagine, but I was asked to post this here.
Yeah, wanted to confirm it was the same issue or if it was something new too.
Hi there. I just added a homebrew item to my collection but it's not showing up when I try to add it to the PC
Any ideas why?
Maybe a silly question, but do you have homebrew content enabled for that character?
If that's not the cause, but the item was JUST added to your collection, it may be that the sheet hasn't "caught up" yet due to caching. You could try increasing the character level and bumping it back down again, to re-fetch data from the server.
Ah OK, let me check. I think I have homebrew content enabled
But I did just add it
Ah it's showing up now
Do homebrew items ever change stats? It's the Gloves of Thievery and they are supposed to give him +5 on sleight of hand. I noticed the stat wasn't updated when I put in the item
Hmm. The gloves of thievery are an official item, so they shouldn't be available as homebrew...
But otherwise, homebrew modifiers correctly working are 100% the responsibility of the creator
That's what I thought, but for some reason the gloves don't show up when I search in the inventory
Gotcha
Official content that isn't in the Basic Rules requires purchase for use. Either of the sourcebook as a whole, or piecemeal. The gloves of thievery are from the Dungeon Master's Guide, meaning you would have to either own that content on D&D Beyond or else purchase the individual item. Any purchases from a sourcebook will automatically subtract from the overall sourcebook cost if you were to choose to make the full purchase in the future.
Im trying to make a homebrew feat that causes disadvantage on weapon attack rolls. I think I have this correct but its not showing in the character sheet
I may be wrong in this, but I don't believe attacks in general currently display advantage or disadvantage. There is no official standard for any attack having permanent advantage or disadvantage.
hhmmm I wonder why it would give the option then
That would be because the modifier system doesn't filter modifiers based on what works
It lists all possible options for all possible fields
gotcha thanks!
Hi, my DM says my character link is showing her the "character not ready!" message. I've gone through all the steps in the character builder, and everything seems chosen - race, class, ability scores, background, all proficiencies, etc. Would someone be willing to see if they can see anything amiss here? https://ddb.ac/characters/53849418/uQRlRI
Loads just fine for me.
Typically that message is shown if youāre missing a race, class, or ability scores, but thatās clearly not the case here. š¤
thanks!
Is she signed in to her own account when she tries to load it?
Thereās currently an issue with trying to view public sheets if youāre not signed in, but I wouldnāt normally expect it with that message.
Thanks, I tried opening it in a Chrome incognito window myself, and it gave me the "not signed in" message instead
i've found a very weird thing that happens and im not sure if i put this in here or not, but this character, 6 levels in sorcerer and 2 in cleric, has 2 4th level spell slots, even though they shouldn't. Is this a bug or am i missing something? https://ddb.ac/characters/53936266/vXeCkc
This is a feature of multiclassing with multiple spellcasters. You will still gain higher-level slots, despite not learning spells of that level. But you can use the slots to cast lower-level spells! If you have access to the PHB on D&D Beyond, see here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/phb/customization-options#Spellcasting
I am making a homebrew race that has five different subraces. When I go to select a race for my character the genasi are all grouped under one thing. However my homebrew subraces are all shown separately. How do I group them all together?
You don't. irritatingly
Thank you for ending my suffering of trying to do that for longer than I would like to admit
You're good. It drives me up the wall xD
Hi, Iām home-brewing a magical whip. I want to increase its range from 10 ft. to 15 ft. without also extending the range of my unarmed strikes or other weapons. Is there a way to do this and, if so, what should I adjust?
i know somewhere in the character sheet there's a place to track exhaustion
anyone help me find it?
oops! found it! it's in conditions
Try a modifier with Type: Bonus, Subtype: Melee Reach, and Fixed Value: 5.
Thatās what bugbears use, at least. Hopefully itāll do the same on a magic item.
Thanks for the feedback! It sort of works - my range increases to 15 ft, but it also increases the reach of every one of my other actions, which makes things a bit confusing.
Oof. I totally misread the question. Sorry! š
Iām gonna give Bonus - Weapon Range Multiplier a try to see if that does the trick.
Or if you can find an official magic weapon that does that, you could make a homebrew copy of it and see how they set it up.
Oh! Weapon Property - Reach would probably do it, if itās not a reach weapon already.
So adding reach does work in the way youād expect, but a whip is already a reach weapon, and I doubt it doubles up. :/
Yeah, doesnāt stack.
Seems that may not be possible in the current system. I donāt know the full details of your weapon, but you might be able to create it as a custom attack instead, directly on your character sheet.
Just go to the Actions tab and hit the Manage Custom button in the top right corner. Then you can add it in the sidebar and manually enter any range you want.
How do you change what Unarmoured defence uses? A homebrew I'm creating uses Con instead of Dex and I can't figure out how to change it
It's also not changed the basic 10+dex humans have
If possible I'd like to change it to 12+Con
that would be natural armour
I think there's a combination of modifiers that you need to use, but I don't have that information directly on hand, I have to go find it somewhere. Just a moment
Thanks!
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/107614-trying-to-get-dex-bonus-removed-from-ac-but-its?comment=2 This is from a forum member who creates a LOT of homebrew. I haven't tested this method (I feel like I have used different modifiers than this myself), but I trust the advice is likely sound. I can also set up something to test it quickly
Although in your case, the first modifier's fixed value would be 2, not 3. To make it 12+CON
Alright I've tried it. Just waiting for the changes to go through
(10 + 2 + CON)
Thanks for the help!
I just tested on a new homebrew race and it appears to be working š
yep, Loxodon did it

Hello, is there a way to make a character sheet viewable to anyone with the link without being logged in? I have it set to public but the link returns an error page if not signed in.
Did you make it public?
The team is aware of the issue and looking into it. At the moment, though, youāll need to sign in to view any public sheet.
How do i unlock the artificer class for my players to pick?
You'd need master tier to share content and then purchase any of the Artificer subclasses.
Assuming you all are in a campaign together.
there's no specific book i can look at to buy sub classes?
Thank you
No problem. It's a fun class.
Artillerist, Alchemist, Armorer and Battlesmith are the Artificer subclasses just for clarity.
Hello. Making a Fighter2/Rogue3 Assassin, with Sharpshooter feat. On my character sheet, I see neither the ability to roll the Assassinate, nor the Sharpshooter. We play on roll20 with the applet, so it would link. How can I Assassinate with Sharpshooter? I'd have to manually roll and input the calculations? If so, why bother with purchasing the PHB if nothing links? https://ddb.ac/characters/54044434/vXr4XD
Do you have any third party extensions like Beyond20 enabled? It's been known to cause issues with the site.
As for the Sharpshooter, you currently will have to roll it separately and add the rolls together yourself.
I'd say that is pretty disappointing. To invest in the online materials, and then not have the rolls is a failure of service.
You can set up Sharpshooter as a rollable option using an extra (dummy) weapon, like so: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/d-d-beyond-feedback/108179-custom-attacks?comment=2
As for the ability to "roll the Assassinate," I imagine you mean rolling at advantage and auto-critting? You can roll at advantage by right-clicking (or long-pressing) on the to-hit and damage boxes, like so, and choosing Advantage / Crit Damage.
The problem arises with Beyond20, which is a third-party extension that is neither developed nor officially supported by D&D Beyond; it (and other extensions) have a tendency to interfere with normal DDB site functionality.
Also to comment on this, dice rolling features are still in active development. These features will come, but just haven't arrived yet as there are a lot of 'smart' dice features; additional damage dice, expanded criticals, sneak attack, sharpshooter and great weapon master, even things like halfling luck. But these are things where it's possible to make convenient workarounds (as described) so the team is prioritising the vital dice features that can't have work arounds such as dice sharing and rolling from monster stat blocks.
So I've been making another custom race and I'm curious about how to get the languages working. I've left it a couple of hours after adding the language modifiers and it hasn't added it to the test character sheet I have. I've included a screenshot of how I set up the modifiers if it helps.
This is very helpful! Thank you
The modifiers look correct.
Is the feature type set to Granted? And thatās directly on the feature, not inside an Option or anything?
Hmm š¤
Is the race still in your My Homebrew Collection? Or just in Creations?
It might also help if you change the Version to something recognizable.
If you see that new version get listed on the sheet, that means the changes are getting picked up, and we can dig further into the homebrew itself.
If the new version doesnāt show up, that means the changes arenāt getting picked up, and we can try to find an answer there instead.
I haven't released it yet. So I think i'd be in my homebrew collection
They do get added there automatically, so it should only be missing if you manually removed it.
I'll check. Don't think I've changed languages tho
I've updated it and it's appeared on the details page now so I'll give it some time to update on the character sheet
In the effects column, some spells have a star in with damage or with an effect such as blindness/deafness. Is there a reason that exists? If so what does it mean? I have two homebrew spells that I have made and one has them and the other doesnāt, both are virtually the same. Any help?
Can you link to a character displaying this indicators
Itās just my testing character for things to make sure they work but theyāre all in itās spells
The Blade and Whip cantrips are the ones Iām making, they were (in structure) copies of Neurotic claws and I added blindness in there to show you how it turns up on core items
lemme have a look
It's the tags you've added
The 'Effect' column can only display one piece of information, always prioritising damage equations
If you add tags to a spell, those will display if the spell doesn't have a damage roll (and the tag isn't damage)
If you have multiple, it'll display an * to indicate there are more
Ok, how does that work with Blindness/Deafness then as that only has 1 tag
Or is it because that one doesnāt have a damage tag?
For example, Light displays Creation* because it's tags are creation and utility
Necrotic Blade displays 2d10+5* because it's damage, and has the creation and combat tags
Necrotic Bolt only has a damage equation
Conditions will also display there
Blindness/Deafness imposes the Blinded and Deafened conditions and has the debuff tag
Ahh so the conditions are what give Blindness/Deafness the tag?
So it displays Blinded*
š
is it possible to add a proficiency or feat to your character that you may have acquired during downtime?
Yes! This can all be done directly on the character sheet. Under Features & Traits, you can scroll to the bottom and click Manage Feats to manually add extra feats to the character.
Proficiencies can be added manually with different steps depending on what kind of proficiency. For a language or tool, you would click the gear icon (āļø) in the Proficiencies & Languages box. For a skill, you can click on the skill itself and customize its proficiency level in the sidebar
Oh cool thanks, i don't know why but whenever i try to edit my characters i do that on the website (the edit function) rather than on the character sheet
hey im new dnd and me and some frends want to start a game tegther but I've got no clue what im doing and i could really use some help seting everthing up
Is there anything in particular you're having trouble with?
mostily setting up the virtual borad with roll20 since i've heard they work well together
D&D Beyond does not have any direct interaction with Roll20 - they're 2 separate platforms. You could copy and paste from D&D Beyond into your character sheet, if you wanted, but there's no official support for integration beyond that.
(There are third-party extensions that might help them work together, but they are not supported by DDB at all, and could break when either Roll20 or DDB makes a change.)
I see so what do you sugest I do?
Hey all. Working on a homebrew paladin subclass. One of the channel divinity abilities does 2d10+ paladin level damage. How do I do this in DDB? I assume I need to add some kind of variable like {level} in the fixed value field?
Play as if you are at a table? Maps and other integrations are only there to make things easier and are not mandatory.
All dnd games are unique. Some use physical maps, others use theater of the mind.
Well, depends on where/how you want to run the game. DDB doesn't currently have a virtual tabletop, but you could use a DDB campaign group to manage the characters - you can now make die rolls directly from the character sheet, and the results of those rolls are shared with the campaign group. (I believe it's also possible to roll privately so only the player and the DM can see the result, and possibly roll secretly so only the DM (not the player) sees the roll.)
As mentioned by TheReverendB, you could play using "theater of the mind", or otherwise using physical maps (i.e. in person), or use some other way to manage grid combat. You could even potentially use DDB to manage the characters/rolls, and maybe use some other virtual tabletop just for keeping track of positioning during combat.
alright that works thanks alot for the help
Put Fixed Value: 1 to start. After you save the Action, edit it again and scroll to the bottom. Youāll then find a Level Overrides section there.
Youāll have to create an override for every level where the calculation changes, which in your case is every level.
I think you can just override the fixed value itself. You probably donāt have to reenter the die size and count every time.
ya. cool. Thanks. I saw the Light Cleric Channel Divinity was similar so I tried to use that as a template but DDB doesn't even do what you said.
They just have the description filled out and thats it
Maybe because itās a saving throw, they might have chose not set it up as an actual attack.
I donāt actually know the reason.
ya
got a question about homebrew monsters and publishing. when do I know the changes are significant enough? do I rely on the automatic detection?
i can give you some examples I made
Sure, I can have a look
Yeah, so that's a conjurer + some traits, right?
As a general rule of thumb, if your homebrew includes a mechanically complete version of something with only minor changes (damage values, spells etc), that would usually not be acceptable
So in this case, it's possible to 'reverse engineer' the Conjurer (because it's mechanically all right there)
yeah well that was my question because my changes are somewhat bigger than "minor" imo, but I see the logic that its still recognizeable a conjurer
It's about the mechanical language rather than the specific values that matters for uniqueness
I'm not sure I understand that sentence
Sorry, lemme rephrase
Like, if you were to take the stat block and change all the numbers and specific spells to say 'Blank', that's the basis of how we'd compare things. So for example
Benign Transportation (Recharges after the Conjurer Casts a Conjuration Spell of 1st Level or Higher). As a bonus action, the conjurer teleports up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space that it can see. If it instead chooses a space within range that is occupied by a willing Small or Medium creature, they both teleport, swapping places.
Would be considered basically the same as
Benign Transportation (Recharges after the Conjurer Casts a Conjuration Spell of 5st Level or Higher). As a bonus action, the conjurer teleports up to 120 feet to an unoccupied space that it can see. If it instead chooses a space within range that is occupied by a willing Medium or Large creature, they both teleport, swapping places.
Sorry, it's been a long day and I'm actually more tired that I realised so I'm failing at words it seems š
The tl;dr is unfortunately that monster is too similar to the OG conjurer to reasonable publish
okay, what happens if someone publishes something like this by accident. not knowing exactly where the line is? you cant unpublish, unfortunately
In theory, it gets reported, comes into the moderation queue, gets reviewed, and then gets rejected, which unpublishes it
Certainly no danger from maybe a few errant homebrews, the forums have checks and balances
It would take something really egregious to jeopardise your account
oh and another question, is there a difference between using stat blocks from the SRD/basic rules as base?
And yeah, reported stuff gets handled by a moderator
Same thing goes for the SRD stuff, falls under our 'minor changes' rule
Good general rule, homebrew should be mechanically and thematically unrecognisable from it's source
yeah I just thought it would be neat to be able to share these mods to SRD stat blocks more freely, you can use them in other contexts after all
the conjurer obviously would not fall under that
Yeah, unfortunately these would fall under the 'too similar' and/or 'core content rules'
Pre-bolting on templates from books is not allowed
what if the minor changes are entirely hombrew instead of templates from paid books?
As long as the changes render the original stat block unrecognisable, you're good
alright, thanks for the info.
That isnāt natively supported in the app yet, but you can tap the character sheet section menu and click āView Character on Websiteā.
Or you can open it in your mobile web browser instead.

Thanks alot @wanton shard
Ouch. Good luck with that -3 con. You are more brave than I am.
How do you make a homebrew magic item ignore the base item's rolls. I'm making a gatling gun that deals 6d8 damage and it's adding the automatic rifle rolls to it.
So question, how do you change the damage die of a weapon, im trying to make a pistol do 2d4 instead of the usual 1d8, how do i go about this?
@round plinth @little plume
DDB's homebrew does not allow creation of items with differing damage dice. Your best bet would be to make a custom action on your sheet directly, or to try using another existing item and renaming it.
okay thank you, that is kinda annoying though.. thank you for responding nonetheless.
If I buy the master tier do I get to use all the books for Character creation like on dnd beyond I could make a tortle as my race with out buying the the individual pack I could buy the subscription and get all meaning races, subclass etc
None of the subscriptions grant direct access to content
Alright thank you
The hero tier subscription gives you
- unlimited character slots
- the ability to save public homebrew content to your collection
- access to tools that are in alpha
- subscriber perks
The master tier gives you everything the hero tier does, plus
- content sharing
Content sharing lets you share content you have bought within up to 3 campaigns normally, but currently 5
Alright thanks! I suppose I could do it by having my modifier being 4d8 to add to the default 2d8
Hey, i've just bought hero subscription after my card expired and the subscription dropped, however content share is now not an option, please help
Content sharing is a Master Tier feature. (If you want to switch from Hero Tier to Master Tier before your subscription expires, reach out to support and they should be able to help you out!)
Yeah, contacting customer support sounds like your best option. You can do that here:

Hi, how can you turn off night/dark mode for character sheets? I accidentally turned it on and I can't find a way to switch back
When you click on the gear Icon next to your characters name a pop-up opens where you can turn it off @civic totem
Hi, is there a possibility to share an editable character to somebody else? So they can manage and look through it or only the one on the main account can ?
@tired axle you're a saint!
Yeah I looked around the settings for like 10 minutes before I found it ^^
I appreciate their effort, but the dark mode isn't quite there yet.
Yes! If you add that character to a campaign, both the DM and the player will have full access to the character, including the ability to edit.
i have no clue how a campaign works on the site. I tried a few times and i'm so lost in it
byut ty, will look more into it
I believe the creator of the campaign group on the site is automatically considered the "DM"
And then someone else can join that campaign using the invite URL listed on the campaign page (the DM would send that link to them/post it somewhere they can access).
When you join a campaign, you're prompted to join with an existing character or create a new one (assuming you haven't reached the 6-character limit, if you're not a Hero Tier or Master Tier subscriber; if you've reached that limit, you'll have to delete an existing character before you can make a new one).
Thanks! Will look more onto it !
Let us know if you have any questions! š
On Colection> My Campaigns ?
Yes
if i have for example mines of phandalier or how is it called, can i add the story in there automatically or i need to select and add by hand the story ?
You would have to read from the module itself in a different tab. You can copy/paste the whole thing to the private notes section of the campaign if you want, but it would be a lot of work and also make navigation of the adventure harder, so I don't recommend it.
Sorry if i ask dumb questions, warn me to stop if i go too far š
No worries! We're here to help!
I see, so making a campaign is kinda tough
A campaign on DDB is primarily for character management.
You should be able to still run the adventure just fine, you just won't be reading it from the campaign page.
Well, right now, the "campaign" system mainly helps with character management, dice-roll sharing, content sharing (for purchased content if someone in the group has a Master Tier subscription - homebrew is automatically shared within the campaign group), etc.
DDB may continue to iterate and add new features in the future š
i see. A lot to swallow haha. Thanks for the info. Need to study this more
If you have any trouble or any other questions later, feel free to ask us!
ty!
I'm in the process of creating a homebrew subclass for clerics (I chose "order domain" as base so that I don't have to write everything from scratch). I have - as many other subclasses for clerics - bonus proficiencies at 1 level (simple weapons and a skill of choice between stealth, persuasion or intimidation). It looks fine in the homebrew window of the subclass itself, but when I try to use it with my character (I wanna use this subclass with multiclassing, main class is monk) it's messed up and doesn't even show the description text? oO is this an error of ddb or a layer 8 problem? ^^
I'm a big confused about what content sharing is/how it works. Could someone explain it please
Hopefully this page will answer your questions. If not, we can clear up anything else you want to know. š
https://dndbeyond.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115011257067-Campaign-Content-Sharing-and-You
There could be any number of reasons. Is the Feature Type set to āGrantedā?
yes! I can take a few screenpics if that would help? I entered the description text and added modifiers; one with proficiency in simple weapons and one with "choose skill" (i dont know how to select just 3 skills lmao) and they're both displayed right somehow in the class. If I choose the subclass / domain in the character editor it gives me an exclamation mark and displays the bonus proficiency, but the descriptive text isn't there and I can choose between "choose a 1 level option" and there's no option behind the dropdown and I can also choose one skill out of every skill (as expected at this point).
Yeah, a screenshot would help.
I deleted the cleric level and added it again, now it only shows the "choose a skill" dropdown š
it feels as if ddb is like... overloaded or something? in the afternoon it would not display anything, then I left the house, did something else and now it displays "something"? š
Letās take a look hereā¦
When you edit the class feature, do you have text in both the Snippet and Description boxes?
Is Has Options checked? Is there anything in Class Levels Where Options Known?
Is Hide in Builder checked?
Hello, im back! haha...
Can i add any of my existing characters to a new campaign? Cuz on the campaign i don't see the option to add any of my already made characters but to make a new one.
Yes, you can! If you go to your invite link, it should list the characters in your collection in addition to the "Join with New" button.
Yeah! Just click on one and click "Join With This Character"
okay, I forgot the snippet. My bad.
"has options" checked
class levels where options known: yes, "1"
Okay! Hopefully populating the snippet will fill in the text there.
The reason itās showing that first dropdown is because of the Options stuff.
Iām guessing if you scroll down to the Options section, thereās nothing there, which is why that dropdown is blank.
But Options are exactly what you need if you want to restrict their skill choices.
So add an Option for each available choice (like Stealth) and make sure it gets the appropriate Modifier (like Proficiency ā Stealth).
The you can delete that Choose a Skill and you should be set!
Just remember that homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes before they show up on the character sheet. If you donāt see it right away, just give it a sec.
Alright, that sounds like it makes a lot of sense. Thank you very much for your help, I'm gonna try that after dinner š š
Good luck!
Hi, I'm having issue with creating a Cleric with Order Domain. Tashas cauldron of Everything sourcebook is purchased but it still does not allow creation of the Order Domain character. Any hints?
Did you buy the full book as a whole? Or just the compendium content?
Also, how long ago did you buy the book? (You might need to give it a few minutes for everything to update/work properly.)
I think I'm missing something. I'm wanting to make a homebrew a mundane weapon, but when I go to create, I don't have an option to do that. Is it not possible? or is it somewhere else?
Got the whole source book quite a few weeks ago ( 5/11/2021 according to the marketplace). Other content from it is available
Order Domain was originally printed in Guildmasterās Guide to Ravnica.
Youāll need to turn on Magic the Gathering Content for that character before youāll find it.
Ah, good call.
Ahh okay, thanks. That's not very clear because it's also available in Tasha's.. Could it be possible to put some hints in the sourcebook text to also add that information? With Magic the Gathering Content it does seem to show up š
Homebrewing mundane weapons is not currently possible, though that may change in the future. For now, you can create a custom item on your sheet by going to Equipment>Manage Equipment>Custom Items>Add Custom Item.
That doesn't include damage, or allow making attacks with it. So it's pretty useless for a weapon. Thanks for confirming. I'll stop looking. š I could only find forum posts from 2+ years ago, so I wasn't sure if it was added yet.
I believe it is something the devs have said they hope to support in the future!
DDB can only use the sourcebook text as provided by Wizards of the Coast. Theyāre not able to change its content.
@real summit You can show your support for adding the feature by upvoting an existing feature request here (or making a new feature request if it's not there already): https://ddb.ac/feature-requests
Thats cool, just wondering given it's printed in the physical books too and in the digital one - it's very unclear that turning the Magic the Gathering content is required for it to be available. Would it really be Magic the Gathering content specifically if you have Tashas book purchesed? I guess you guys know better - just mentioning it from the usability perspective it would make sense to somehow indicate that its either required to turn on to use that content or make it available without the toggle š
Either way, thanks for the help! it sorted my issue
We can definitely pass the feedback along, at least!
Sure thing š Thank you for the swift resolution of the issue š
Done! thanks!
What would I need to buy to unlock all/most of the subclasses
The Sourcebook Bundle should do the most
You can also purchase subclasses individually, if there are one or more that you're otherwise missing after purchasing a book or bundle. Any individual components purchased will subtract from the overall cost of their sourcebook, if you should ever decide in the future to buy the full book! š
The Player Bundle is a great option there, too.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/bundles/player-bundle
90+ subclasses
120+ spells
70+ feats
20+ Backgrounds
Plus magical tattoos, invocations, new magic items, and more
And you save $20 off buying those books separately.
I shall save up for the player bundle
Like Halfwing said, though, you can buy it in pieces.
You might start with the subclass bundle in the Playerās Handbook, for example. The $10 you spend there means that book is then $10 less.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/players-handbook
And so is the Player Bundle, which contains that book.
And the Sourcebook and Legendary bundles, too.
That way you can start with the content you want most and build your way up.
Hi, I feel like this is a common question but I wasn't able to find a simple answer. Is there a way in the Character Builder to toggle sourcebook content? I'm playing in a campaign of new players (including the DM) and the DM wants to stick to PHB content. I have all the sourcebooks and would like the builder to only display PHB content for this char.
There is no current way to toggle this, although it has previously been mentioned in Dev Update Q&As that this feature is somewhere on the roadmap
Darn. That seems like such a common issue since not everyone has all the books or knows exactly what comes from where
Thank you for your help!
I play a trickster cleric. My DM often homebrews items for us, so I donāt really want to turn off homebrew, but I donāt like using homebrew spells. Unfortunately, a homebrew spell (Lavorreās Zone of Truth or Dare) is showing up as āalways preparedā on my spell list. Is there any way to fix this?
Can you share a link to your character?
If it's always prepared, it has to be coming from another homebrew something.
A magic item, feat, or subclass.
It must be coming from this.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/355014-lavorres-zone-of-truth-or-dare
I just made a test trickery cleric, and it's not showing for me (yes homebrew is on)
So anything in a user's My Homebrew Collection gets automatically shared with the rest of their campaign.
If that's all that was happening, you'd see it as an available spell in Manage Spells, but it wouldn't show as always prepared.
If your test cleric isn't assigned to that same campaign, they likely won't see that spell at all.
If you go to the Spells tab on your main character sheet, though, what does it say right under that spell name?
AHA! Yep. I see. I added it to a campaign with a bard, they see the spell available.
Your DM has to not have it in their collection.
(Blue button)
Can you get a screenshot of that spell in the Manage Spells > Add Spell section on your character sheet?
In the middle
Let me see if I can find a wizard to cast See Invisibility here.
Iām not sure what you mean by add spells
Sorry. Known Spells is what I meant.
Which you already got a picture of. Thanks. š
Is it a cantrip?
Wait, helps if I click on the link - because its been set to Trickery Domain, thats the same way we classify domain spells
so when added directly to the domain it will always show as "always prepared" as its being flagged as a domain spell
Itās mainly just weird because I know I didnāt add it to my collection, and I doubt my DM did
It could be one of the other players in your group.
Any homebrew in a user's collection is shared to others via a campaign
so it could be anyone in the campaign
Hello, is there a way to automatically add each characters hp from the sheets or to link them together so i don't have to overwrite the characters hp each time
?
god I want combat tracker to come to free beta so I can use it
Not at the moment, no, although that feature is hopefully going to come along sometime in the mid- to near future. I believe there was a moment on a dev stream recently where Joe Starr ran combat and was testing a version that pulled in character HP, so it's at the very least in the early testing stages.
i see. That'd be cool to be able to link the character sheets to this combat encounter. Thanks for the info!
Is there a way to A change a homebrew itemās form? I changed an item from a Wonderous Item to a Potion and it wonāt update. Trying to add it to players inventories still lists it as a wonderous item
Homebrew edits can take upwards of 15-20 minutes to populate after the fact, due to caching
Oh cool Iāll just try again in the morning
I am playing a Wildfire Druid, and I was looking to add the Wildfire Spirit to the "Extras" section of my character sheet in DDB, however it doesnt appear as an option... Does anyone know if there is a way to add it or if this has been brought to DDB's attention?
Several of the new features and spells present Monster Statblocks which scale with your character. This includes spells that summon other creatures. The system to handle these creatures is still under development but we have included inline stat blocks wherever possible to help you reference the stats you need.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/87774-tashas-cauldron-of-everything-issues-and-support
If you want to include it in Extras for now, youāll need to create a homebrew monster to handle the calculations (and update it if those calculations change).
Thank you so much!
I have three books irl and I want to add them to beyond (they shouldn't be pre-owned), can I do that?
or do I have to buy them again
You can buy them again or enter the information using the Homebrew system.
D&D Beyond is a separate company from Wizards of the Coast, which means you can't transfer your physical book purchases to DDB
You can either rebuy the whole book, buy just the bits you need, copy the content from your book in via the homebrew tools (for personal use only), or join a campaign with content sharing
ok, thx
I've had a player accidently delete his character, he sent in a request but is there anyway that it can be recovered
hey so I have a quick question about my barbarian character. obviously when I rage I get the advantage on athletics etc, but how do I remove those effects when my rage ends?
Not really, customer service might be able to help, but it's not guaranteed
These effects aren't applied by using rage, so you don't need to remove them
What do you need help with?
but its automatically giving me advantage on athletics checks
is there any way i can buy the master tier subscription without having to repay it every month
like could i buy it for 1 month
Nope, it's a reoccuring charge
oh
What barbarian path?
my parents dont like those types of charges
so i cant buy it for 1 month and then cancel it
If you pay for a subscription, you can cancel afterward (to prevent future charges), but you will retain your current subscription benefits until the end of the period
okie
well, unfortunatly as I dont have the digital books I could only choose path of the berserker. but my dm has allowed me to use the zealot path, but just keep track of things myself
I created a homebrew spell that's just a copy of Armor of Agathys with a different damage type. It's appearing twice in my Warlock's spell list, but I only see it once in my list of homebrew creations. I did not publish it to the community. Is this a glitch or did I do something?
its just my parents got scammed a lot with subscriptions where it said we could cancel it at anytime but then when we wanted to cancel it we had to pay a fee to cancel it
There is no fee for cancellation š You'll be fine to subscribe, then cancel
okie ty
ill ask my parents ty
RAZGRIZ ā Today at 17:46
well, unfortunatly as I dont have the digital books I could only choose path of the berserker. but my dm has allowed me to use the zealot path, but just keep track of things myself. but yeah its the advantage on strength checks/saves thats the issue
when my rage ends how do I remove those effects
I tried just clicking the toggle button for the rage counter, but that does nothing
and if there is a cancellation fee we will sue you
jk
but we will
i say that in a friendly way
Rage does not apply any temporary effects to your character sheet, so that advantage is likely coming from something else ā something permanent. If you click on it and check the sidebar, it should say what that something is.
RageDamage +2PHB, pg. 48
As a bonus action enter a rage for up to 1 minute (10 rounds).
You gain advantage on STR checks and saving throws (not attacks), +2 melee damage with STR weapons, resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, slashing damage. You can't cast or concentrate on spells while raging.
Your rage ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you havenāt attacked a hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then. You can also end your rage as a bonus action.
Can you share a link to your character sheet?
I donāt currently see any advantage on your Athletics.
Are you using some third-party extension there?
Whatever that little window is, itās not part of DDB.
Looks like Beyond20 from the extensions in the top right
yeah I know, but thats not the issue, its still rolling the 2 dice
If you turn off Beyond20, does it still roll both dice?
Whole thing with Beyond20 is that D&D Beyond had no involvement with its creation
No worries! Hope that gets you closer to an answer, at least.
it has indeed, it was acctually an option I had selected before within the exstention. it allows it to add all the bonus's from rage to the rolls automatically
But yeah, since Beyond20 is an unofficial third-party creation, thereās not much we can offer in terms of further help with that.
I know some things can't be customed but I made a homebrew shield and added "Range Weapon Attack" but it doesn't appear in the character sheet, im assuming that this is one of those things that can't actually be added
Not on a magic item, I don't think.
But you can probably add it as a Custom Action directly on your character sheet.
Just go to the Actions tab, hit the Manage Custom button in the top right corner, then add it in the sidebar.
yep! Thanks!
When using Underdark mode, the word "feats" and the option to "Manage Feats" is very dark. This can create confusion.
It would be nice if the style matched the style above it.
That uses your Theme color. You might try switching to a more contrasting theme.
That same color is used not just there, but for the borders, your skill and saving throw proficiencies, all the section headers, and a few other buttons, too.
Hey folks. I am noticing when I download a character I have created it puts my account name in the player name field. Is there a way for me to change that or the account name itself?
I don't believe there is any control over which name is exported to PDF, but you can try opening a support ticket at https://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket regarding your account name.
Thanks, will give that a shot
my friend is having trouble signing up to use DnD beyond
the sign up button is blue once he clicks it and then it turns grey
and wont do anything help please ha

Would a mod be able to tell me why my homebrew is getting flagged for "non English language"?
I for the life of me cannot figure why I can't publish
That may be because thereās a required field thatās either empty or too short.
Or it may be an outdated error. You can try hitting the main save button for that homebrew to retrigger the validation process.
And just in case it helps: those errors only apply for published homebrew. If itās for private use by you or your campaign, you donāt need to publish at all, and you can just ignore those warnings.
Worked thanks!
Is the fighter fighting style "superior technique" from Tcoe broken or not working as intended? When I select it I get no menu to select a maneuvre nor does the martial die use box appear on the character sheet.
Is there a work around?
This is a known limitation of the current system that is being worked on. From the Tasha's Cauldron of Everything Issues & Support thread on the D&D Beyond forums:
Fighting Style - Superior Technique. Not functional. We don't currently have a sensible way of implementing the selection of maneuvers that wouldn't cause characters to become broken in the future. We're working on a solution for this known issue.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/87774-tashas-cauldron-of-everything-issues-and-support?comment=1
Hey so, i've noticed that with the Artificer Battle Smith Steel Defender when you put it into your extras on DnDBeyond it'll update HP correctly with your level, but once you get to level 5 it doesn't apply the Proficiency bonus increase correctly (Doesn't double PB for Perception and doesn't increase the attack bonus and damage for the attack at all, ect.) is this a known problem that is getting worked on or is there a way to fix it?
When Tasha's released, the Steel Defender changed to a new type of scaling statblock which is not yet supported. The Extras tab currently follows the original Steel Defender statblock.
Welcome to the Support Thread forĀ TASHAāS CAULDRON of EVERYTHING
If you find any issues with the content from the sourcebook, or using it on a D&D ...
If you'd prefer to use the updated version, you can create it as a homebrew monster and scale it according to your character. Then, add it in Extras under the Misc category (not Battle Smith Defender).
And if your character stats change, you'll need to manually update your monster accordingly.
ok thank you
I'm new to dnd how do I play, It sounds cool and wnat to get into it
Go to #dnd-discussion and check the pinned messages
Ok thanks
Welcome! If you did want help with DDB specifically, this article will you get started.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/754-how-to-play-dungeons-dragons-using-d-d-beyond
hello , this is my first time playing , my friend helped me create my character and he sent it to me as a link so i can download it then join his campaign . how do i get my character from download link to d&d beyond ? anything helps
If you get the DDB mobile app and open your character while online, it should save it for offline use.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/player-app
Alternatively, if you go to your character sheet and click the gear icon next to your character name, you should find an option to Export to PDF in the menu that appears.
I may have misunderstood the question there. š
If your friend created a character in DDB for you and you want to add it to your own account, these are the steps you and your friend will need to follow:
- Your friend should find an Invite Link at the top of the campaign page.
- If the character is not already in the campaign, your friend can use that invite link themselves to add them.
- Once the character is added, it needs to be unassigned. Your friend can do that by finding that character on the campaign page and clicking "Unassign".
- Have your friend send you the invite link. You'll then be able to select from any unassigned characters in the campaign.
ok thank youuuu
is there a way to let a homebrew subclass choose multiple options from one subclass feature, instead of manually having to make another feature with the exact same options?
Yep! Put the Options on the first feature only, and include everything that depends on it inside. You can specify a class level for any part that doesnāt unlock til later.
And then your later class features that depend on that will be just the text descriptions.
Ok so when I go to screenshot a drop-down box (ie skill selection) it becomes translucent
Thatās on Android, I take it?
Tis
My guess is that taking the screenshot causes the dropdown to lose focus so it starts to close.
And then the actual screenshot gets taken while itās closing.
Or do the options stay open even after the screenshot?
Also what browser is that? It doesn't look to be chrome
I just googled it
I think what Spam has suggested is likely the case; the action to screenshot is also telling the browser to close the menu
Do you get the same issue in another browser?
Yeah
So I finished my character
sheet so what now?
Find a group to play with? Check out #750812887697588356.

For the spells section in a characters page, what do the V, S, and M mean
verbal, somatic, and material, the types of components a spell may require in order to be cast
Thank you!
Hi - I'm trying to figure out why my level 1 druid with con +3 is showing with max hp of 15. I'm playing a homebrew class "Hedge", but I don't see anything that would affect my hit points. They should be 8+3=11. Any thoughts / advice?
Itās probably set to Manual HP.
You can go to your character settings and change the Hit Point Type to āFixedā if you want it to auto-calculate.
Or if you want to stick with manual, you can go to the Class tab in the character editor and hit the Manage HP button.
Youāll want to put an 8 there for the total rolled, and the extra 3 from your CON will get added automatically.
Ok, thanks. I'm on mobile now, I'll give it a try when I'm at my computer.
I have to open to the tabs selection screen on my phone to screenshot, so it's that kind of translucent but it doesn't fade all the way
can you not use the power and volume button?
(that's a typical screenshot command for lots of phones)
Are there any sources for what the game styles are
What do you mean?
when we are requesting for a dm/player we say the game style what is that
I can, I didn't realize that I could until just now though because the top volume button and power button turns your phone to vibrate
Ah, you mean in #750812887697588356. Some examples are given in the pinned message:
Some information about what sort of game you are looking for e.g. roleplay heavy, hack'n'slash, political intrigue, horror, heroic adventure, official published campaign or homebrew... [etc.] Whatever helps describe the type of game you would like to participate in.
Okay where can I learn what those specifically mean?
Basically, some people might want to run/play in a roleplay-heavy campaign, while others are interested in just combat. Some might be looking for a campaign focused on political intrigue, while others might be looking for an exploration-heavy campaign. Not everyone is interested in the same sort of game, so specifying those things helps DMs and players find a group that shares their interests.
You can probably google most terms for context - or if you're interested in a particular campaign posting that mentions those things, you can probably ask the DM for more details.
The DMG also covers a few different play styles:
thnx sm
Happy to help!
I can't edit my Bugbear's ASI's with the option edit enabled. It just says 'you may pick' and then there are no menus to pick from. Any help?
Try turning the option off and back on again
This is a known bug, but typically disabling and re-enabling the Optional Class Feature fixes it
Or try refreshing the page

So, it seems like some of the backdrop options for characters aren't showing up for me. I own XGTE, but only see Backdrop 6. I own ERftLW, but only see backdrop 5, and in the campaign I am in, content sharing is turned on, but I don't see any of the backdrops for Icewind Dale. Any ideas?
Backdrops have traditionally been rewarded only for pre-ordering sourcebooks, not simply purchasing them. Some of those backdrops have recently been made available as subscriber perks, meaning anyone with an active subscription has access to those select backdrops while subscribed. Backdrops and other character sheet customizations are also not shared via content sharing.
Ah, I see. While I am disappointed not to have access to the IWD backdrops, I will live. Thanks!
Is there a way to view everyoneās rolls as well as roll dice on the website without commandeering another players sheet
In a campaign to be exact (Iām the dm)
There is a Game Log directly on the campaign page. Or is it that generic rolls (from the sidebar on player character sheets) aren't going through?
As long as the targeting is set properly there, every character sheet roll should be able to go to the Game Log on the campaign page (or in the Combat Tracker if in use), and be visible by the DM
That works fine I just meant like can I pull up a dm page where I can roll dice and stuff without jumping on a players character sheet
Is combat tracker a separate thing or is it that sidebar
Ah! Outside of the Combat Tracker, I don't believe so at the moment
The Combat Tracker is an alpha feature (and so currently only available to subscribers until it goes to beta), that lets you run combat. And roll dice from that page
Got it. I guess Iāll just wait till that gets released!
You can actually sort of work around this as the DM by creating an unassigned dummy character in the campaign, if you don't currently have access to the Combat Tracker! Just tested it, and rolling from the sidebar on that character sheet (even when it's unassigned) pushed to everyone else's game log
mod's in here showing us how to "cheat" the system š
It's not really cheating anything š Just providing DM dice rolls! I believe it's already been stated that the plan is to include a dice roller on the campaign page (though I don't have a source at the ready, so I may be mistaken)
They have, but I don't remember which Dev Update... I was just picking on you
Hey... I've chosen the Charlatan background for my character but there is a diverence between the phb and the options I have in ddb. Is there a reason for this?
Can you elaborate on the differences? There are a few possible reasons: The PHB Charlatan had an errata and your physical copy is an older printing; or, you have a homebrewed version of the Charlatan background on DDB, either added to your collection or shared by another member of a campaign.
There is the PHB charlatan background and the charlatan background from Baldurās Gate as well
I've just checked the PHB errata document and see no mention of Charlatan, so that's probably ruled out. Unless it was a stealth errata that wasn't documented
The Charaltan background gives me the skill proficiencies Deception and sleight of hand... ddb gives me the sleight of hand but in the options there is no Deception
Do you have Deception already from a class proficiency or race proficiency?
did you select Deception elsewhere? That happens to me sometimes
In the phb the Charlatan background gives me tool proviviencies with the Disguis kit and forgery kit but in ddb i can not find them in the options (pull down menu)
Can you post a link to the character sheet?
Also, you simply gain those two tool proficiencies. There is no choice
Then why the two pulldown menu's?
This is the character
One of the mods with permission to look at character sheets will have a look momentarily š
In the meantime, this is what the Charlatan background would look like normally:
I did select Deception elsewhere... that is resolved now... thanks
You haven't selected the Charlatan background, you've selected Custom Background
This is what it looks like when you have Deception proficiency from another race or class feature
And then you've selected the Charlatan background feature
That is likely what's causing the issue
This is what it looks like if you select Charlatan
And this is what your character has: custom background with the Charlatan feature
Yes, that's not the entire charlatan background, that's a custom background using one part of the charlatan feature
If you click the + next to Configure, you'll see where it's been selected
You have them both from Rogue already
Master of Intrigue
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the disguise kit, the forgery kit, and one gaming set of your choice. You also learn two languages of your choice.
āļø
When you gain a proficiency from another source that overlaps your background, the background unlocks any other equivalent proficiency instead
Correct, to prevent you from selecting the same skill in two places
There isn't actually an option in the Charlatan background, it just gives you prof in Disguise Kit and Forgery Tools
But because you already have those from a source where it's also not a selection, per the rules, the two proficiencies from the background are turned into free choices
The actual rule, for future reference:
If a character would gain the same proficiency from two different sources, he or she can choose a different proficiency of the same kind (skill or tool) instead.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/personality-and-background#Proficiencies
Thnx for the help!
Thanks for the fast help!
Thanks! If only my character slots werenāt full lol
Get a subscription!
Indeed, a Hero Tier (or Master Tier) subscription removes the limit on character creation, and lets you make an unlimited number of characters š
Hello I would like to know if there is a project of a French translation of D&D beyond ?
That would be great
At the moment, the site is generally available in English only. However, they did add the Italian PHB last year to start exploring support for other languages. There's a page here that talks about those efforts, plus a link at the bottom where you can provide feedback on the process.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/italian-translation
Thank you, I just answered the survey and saw a lot of French DMs / players in the same situation, I hope it'll get translated
have a nice night
What are all the types of a simple weapon?
I'm making a druid character and choosing items for it but i don't know where to find a list of just simple weapons
The tables can be found here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/equipment#Weapons
Will Strixhaven/Witchlight/Fizban have preorder bonuses?
The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, and Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos product listings on D&D Beyond have pre-order bonuses listed, yep!
Pretty sure "it's a no" but is there a way for one of my players to DM with my content for like a one shot? We can share our owned content with the players but he's wanting to try his hand at playing DM and I obviously can't hand over my account credentials... I'm curious if there is some sort of CO-DM option for running a campaign.
Just have him create the campaign and use the content sharing option on it.
Yeah but he's wanting to include content I own that he doesn't...it doesn't pool content right? I mean I own all of it myself but he only has basic stuff ATM.
It does if you enable content sharing. Everything everyone in the campaign owns will be shared with everyone for use in that campaign.
Oh! Solution found then. Didn't know ...that's awesome!
Yep, it's really a neat feature.
Hell yeah it is
It's the equivalent of everyone bringing their own source books to the table and physically passing them around. I really like that ddb has that. I thought the content sharing was only connecting the DMs library to the campaign
Nope, and it's not even the DM that has to have the master tier subscription to activate it with.
Hi guys, is there a reason why I can access all books, even though I didn't buy them? For example, I can read Ghosts of Saltmarsh, even though there is nothing in the book I have bought. Is this because of the D&D Beyond Master Tier subscription?
You're likely in a campaign with someone who owns those books, and has content sharing turned on.
That might be it, huh. :o
It's a very cool feature!
It is.
I'm on D&D Beyond and was trying to view the characters I've made and its just been loading for like 10 minutes. I've refreshed, tried making a new page, and I know its not my internet as I'm using Discord and my Xbox perfectly. Any suggestions?
Additionally, other pages on D&D beyond are working
This is about the time for the regular maintenance window. Usually only lasts a few minutes
It's timed to be the least disruptive to the majority of users
Oh I see I see. Danke
I suppose I only have myself to thank for staying up all night and being on during the maintenance window
You can never win when it comes to picking the best time for maintaining something
My router updates at midnight when it's the least active
Which wasn't great when I was up at midnight for a meeting...
Update: My impatience has paid off, it has loaded the page
Huzzah!
on a 24h clock, there will never be a truly free time to maintain or restart anything.
How do I bold text in a snippet?
You can't, snippets are displayed in areas where there is no text formatting
So I can't do this?
Lemme check for you, those might be two different options nested within the same trait
The bolded bits are titles (the name of the snippet) and a numerical value generated from snippet code
Oooh, I stand corrected!
Here you go
<strong>Text</strong>
Awesome, thanks
I love being wrong in cases like this
I may be wrong, but I believe that's the only text formatting allowed in snippets. But it really helps make for other nicely formatted things, like a fixed die size with scaling modifier looking cohesive. š
How do I add a rollable table to a homebrew description? There used to be a button, I thought, but now I can't seem to find it. Is it just a matter of typing it out manually?
There is a complete guide to creating them here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/106856-adding-rollable-tags-to-your-homebrew-monsters-for
Some users have created their own Excel spreadsheets for automatically building them (I've personally made myself a handy extension), but otherwise at the moment it's purely a manually typed-out process. Not too bad once you've done it a few times and had the practice! š
Edit: Halfwing needs a nap.
I think they were asking about tables, in which case the easiest answer is to copy and paste one in.
Alternatively, you can hit the Code View button </> and add it through HTML.
Oh my gosh š¤¦āāļø You're right. I saw "rollable" and "homebrew" and my brain shut out everything else
Heya, so a friend of mine made a campaign with content sharing. The issue is that I dont see any of the subclasses listed. Does anyone know how to fix this?
nvm
hey guys so my friend has a spell on his sheet that's called dust form and its always prepared but it says he can remove it but every time he removes it the site crashes for him
It's likely some bad homebrew. Something in the way it's set up that isn't playing nice. Can you post a link to the character sheet here so a forum mod or someone with proper permissions can have a look?
wait wrong one
Looks like it's this homebrew spell here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/241494-dust-form
Homebrew gets shared automatically between campaign members.
And since that spell is set to apply to the Trickery Domain, that's why it's added to your cleric there.
If you want to remove it, you'll have to find out which of your campaign members has it in their homebrew collection and ask them to remove it (from their collection).
Hey guys. My Staff of Striking form D&D Beyond is not displaying in Discord VTT. It's already attuned. Any suggestions?
D&D Beyond doesn't support any third party plugins or applications. Is this something with the official Avrae bot?
Done through the Beyond 20 Discord Integration. Every other roll is working. Everything except my Staff of Striking.
Beyond 20 is a third party application and is not supported by D&D Beyond. It has also been known to cause issues with the site.
Any suggestion?
You'll have to raise any issues you have with the dev for Beyond20
Will do. Thanks a lot.
To clarify, by "not supported by D&D Beyond" that means we cannot offer any support or suggestions other than don't use the extension if you wish to ensure D&D Beyond works as intended
I need some help trying to make a subclass from Tashaās Crucible to Everything, I have the screenshots of all the information from the books but I have no idea on how to make this subclass on DNDBeyond. If anyone is available to help it would be greatly appreciated, if you could DM me about it I can converse there as Iām not sure if over the server is the best place to talk about it or not (doesnāt exactly fit any of the channels).
You can ask the folks over in #homebrew.
Thanks
when you are in the edit character portion of the sheet and go to your ability section, what do the numbers in Strength Dec and Con say?
That's correct.
@queen pecanYou've applied overrides and other modifiers
oh
Take the value, subtract ten, divide by two, round down. That's the modifier.
15 - 10 = 5 / 2 = 2.5 = +2.
your character sheet has an ability override on it that is setting the scores to 3 instead of 15.
When you are looking at your character sheet - Click on Strength and in the box that pops up look for the box that says "override score" and delete the number from in there.
should i get rid of all the override?
happens to the best of us.
Yes.. any numbers you put in those bottom boxes will affect the Ability Score you rolled for.
oh
artificially inflating or deflating the number by whatever you put in the box.
There should be nothing in "Other Modifier"
at level 1 you definitely shouldn't have an ability score of 27.. 20 is usually the max unless special items or ability allow it to go above 20
for some reason it decided to replace the override with other modifiers
is this right?
those are the correct ability scores for what you rolled - I would highly recommend you not have your constitution be a 5 though.. that's -3 to your hit points. You will be extra squishy
what is constitution?
Your health
higher
your don't die stat
how do i get it higher
It's what determines how much hurt you can take
?
don't mind if I steal this
Yeah
replace with what?
Intelligence, probably
Got Avrae working properly. Ready to roll now! Thanks for the help. @thorn sandal @modest pelican

would it be cheating to reroll for stats until i get ones i like?
That's not really a question for this channel
?
This channel is for getting help using the site
That would be a question for either your DM, or to ask in #dnd-discussion
ok
Added PC to a campaign to access the books since I need to choose a new subclass from Tasha's. But the subclass still isn't available in the PC edit. What's a surefire way to get the campaign update across to the PC edit page?
Which subclass are you looking for?
