Is anyone else having trouble adding maps to Maps atm?
my uncle is sharing source books with me but i cannot create a class using the species in the shared books is that intentional?
are you making the character inside the Campaign?
No
Content Sharing is only for characters within that campaign
Has the problem with the map browser on iOS devices already been reported? The “maps” feature does not let me add additional maps because the menu is borked.
The menu to add maps from any sources is not properly loading. It does not let me add maps from bought sources or anything at all. This happens with every browser I tested on my iPad Pro and my iPhone. Chrome, Safari, Icab mobile, Opera so far. On a windows pc the menu is not borked and works as before.
Can you access the Maps Feedback button on the side? That's the best way to report things back to the Maps team.
Just wrote it there.
Yeah can confirm issues with the modal/popup windows on Maps on a mobile device
Another thing: Will the “tooltip not found” errors from statblock from books like MCDMs Flee Mortals or Where Evil lives ever be fixed? They are in since the change to 2024 rules.
I believe that issue has been reported - no idea of where it is on the devs to do list
Alright. Thanks for the info. Let’s hope the menu will be fixed soon. I am currently “on the road” and have my next session Friday. Can’t really prepare new maps with this borked menu.
You have a nice day 🙂
heya so what to do to edit 'remaining slots' on my looking for players post?
Use the thread attached to your post to communicate updates/corrections
this means i can't edit the original post, yes?
Correct - the post itself is not editable
gotcha, so if its filled, do i just send 'FILLED' in the thread and we're good
I mean you could delete it but then you'd need to wait the 7 days before you can post again.
Yep
thanks!
Uh I have a issue
Someone I’m sharing the content with with the book sharing isn’t able to access the monsters is there a way to fix this and yes I have content on share all but it seems that they can’t even use the free monsters that most can use
Are they trying to use the shared content in the Map tool? If thats the case the maps tool doesn't allow shared content to be used in it. So whoever is using maps must own all content they plan on using on it.
But they should be able to add the monster from the basic rules.
No it’s not on maps. They can’t even pull it up outside of combat using the !monster “monster name” command
So they are using Avrae then?
Yes
Are other features of Avrae working for them and/or are others able to use the monster command to bring up the stats?
They got it figure out in #ddb-avrae-help
Making a homebrew feat with a specific spell being granted.
"is infinite" is not ticked.
For some reason the feat has three extra 'choose a spell' options despite me not doing anything of the sort.
hi there! Everytime i try to make a homebrewed monster it gives me an internal error. I have tried clearing cache, history, switching browsers and everything. and i am still hit with this error. can i get some help with this?
Was it a copy of an existing feat? Some of those have hidden settings you won’t be able to adjust.
why is it this way
Looking to create a magical weapon in dndb for my character. Is there anyone who can help me?
i can try, what do you plan to make?
it might be possible just difficult to recreate
im unsure on how to do the % for the regen but it does seem fairly easy actually it would just need a somewhat long description
The dm has just been having me roll the dice as far as the regen.
That's a great idea
I’m new to the game and never played it this before can anyone help
And need help creating a character

I'm trying to create a cloak that simply lets the players add 1d4 to their CON saves. Whenever I add it, their con save scores jump up +2.
Assume that is just the average being added?
Ok, question. I'm homebrewing Winged Tiefling into a 2024 tiefling, and have replaced the Fiendish Legacy and Fiendish Legacy spell features with Hellish Resistance and the Wings, and 2024 darkvision with old 2014 tiefling darkvision. Now there is 1 last feature that is in the 2024 tiefling species features, but don't have anymore features to add so that I can replace it. What can I do to get rid of this feature?
I wouldn't expect it to that, but I can't say for sure.
It's definitely not possible to have it add another die, though.
If you view the list of traits, you should see an option on the right to delete it.
2024 tiefling’s Otherwordly Presence feature links to 2014 Thaumaturgy
Sent that to the devs. Thanks!
I am still getting an internal server error. not sure what to do my session is tonight 😭
Ah found the link to submit a ticket!
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but when using the 2014 Paladin, when you select your Fighting Style there isn't the little text box that explains what each fighting style is if you select it anymore
Compare that to the subclass stuff that brings up the See More button
IIRC it used to be a thing that it would bring it up
There's a bit of a bug with that lately. Started a week ago or so. The devs are aware, though I think this is the first time I've seen it reported for Fighting Styles specifically.
Fixed!
Is there anyway to move hunters mark up with the rest of my attacks without making a homebrew for it?
You could add a custom action directly on the sheet.
Go to Actions and click “Manage Custom” in the top right corner.
I'm getting the "Whoops! We rolled a 1 on our API check. We're heading into town to visit the blacksmith for repairs. Try again after a Short Rest." message. Any ideas? I've cleared the cache and cookies, and logged out and back in.
No VPN or adblockers? Or any extensions that can interfere with DnDBeyond functionality?
I'll disable the adblock and get back to you
Disabling the adblock didn't change anything. And I have no other browser extensions.
Have you tried with a different browser (ideally one you don't use often and that doesn't have any browser extensions)?
Yes, tried with both chrome and microsoft Edge, and they both give me the error
What's the URL you're trying to visit?
I'll give it a shot and see if it's something more widespread
I'm trying to create a random character. after selecting the level, species, class, and name, it gives me the error. What ends up happening is it creates a character when I go back and look at my characters, but with no class.
What level, species, and class are you picking?
Also does the character name contain any non-standard or not-latin based characters?
The name is normal (using the fantasy name generator), the level is 5, species is elf, and the class is ranger
It worked now when I used level 4, but not 5
strange
Huh. I just tested it with a level 5 random character and it worked
It worked on mine - wonder if it's a class thing?
I wonder!
What class did you pick?
ranger
It's taking an unusually long time to load after each time a choose a proficiency. I wish I had another computer to test this on
2014 or 2024 ranger base class?
2024
Hmmm. It worked for me
I'm not sure what else to try at this point - you've done all the standard troubleshooting steps.
I'd suggest creating a ticket with customer support to see if they can identify the underlying issue
?tag ddb support
D&D Beyond customer support can be contacted at the link below. Requests are answered in the order they're received, during regular business hours. Submitting multiple requests for the same issue can result in a delayed response.
http://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
Thank you! This is such a wild thing. I made characters literally yesterday with the settings I wanted.
Yeah - I'm sure the developers are constantly building out new things and fixing bugs but sometimes things get missed or there's an unexpected interaction.
In dnd beyond, how do I add to a subclass feature a number that I can add and subtract like focus on a monk?
You mean the checkboxes?
It's catigorized on the character sheet under "limited use"
it's like a number that I can press the plus or minus sign to add or subtract
But I don't see anything that's like limited use inside the subclass "class feature" menu
You need to add an Action and give it a Reset Type.
After you save it, you’ll see the Limited Use section at the bottom.
It’ll switch between checkboxes and that number display automatically, based on the size.
You can’t explicitly choose one or the other.
Hmm, interesting, so I'll be able to use that as a work around to making a custom resource like stat?
Could work, sure
You’d probably want to select “Other” for the Reset Type.
Definitely not Short Rest or Long Rest.
Thank you
Is there a modifier for temporarily adjusting the maximum health? (subtracting from, not temp hp)
I don't think so. Typically modifiers don't cover temporary effects.
But players can adjust that directly on their sheet when applicable.
If they click their current max HP, there's an option in the sidebar to override it.
For barbarians rage when active the dmg does not get included when rolling weapon dmg
Hello,
Will DDb always be more on the manual side of things? Or is there intention to add good volumes of automation?
I stick more with Foundry due to Midi and all the QoL it gives. Does DDB intent to add this sa,e level of qol and automation in the future?
We don't know the roadmap for future automation but the developers are aware of the desire.
This also needs to be balanced with the need for flexibility, particularly as DnDBeyond now supports 3rd-party materials which may have approaches that do not match core 5e mechanics expectations/approaches.
I doubt DnDBeyond will ever match the automation found in Foundry and it's 3rd party modules (at least in the character sheet tools)
Also thinking about the challenges of homebrew... which can also do things very differently then the core D&D 5e rules/mechanics.
DDB's Discord bot, Avrae, does include a much higher level of automation.
https://avrae.io
Hi, Avrae is no longer showing rolls dice on my discord server in one of my channels
works fine with an other channel + other character
i already tried to delete and reimport the campaign, same thing for the character i use, one of my players can't show rolls either anymore
did the update earlier changed something resulting in this ? is there something else i should try to fix this ?
I'm a druid who picked healing word as my free spell with magic initiate druid. Why doesn't it appear available for upcasting on my list of higher level spells?
It has to be set up to use spell slots in order to scale like that.
When a feature gives a specific spell that has both a free use and the ability to use spell slots, they’ll add it twice so it displays both ways.
But that’s not currently possible to do when the player chooses their own spell.
So they add just the free use.
You can manually mark a spell slot used if you want to cast it at a higher level, but if you want the spell itself to show at each level, you’ll need to add that through some other means — possibly by using the homebrew system.
That's bizzare, I could swear there was a different way that Beyond tracks that just fine but it turns out I was thinking about backgrounds. The Strixhaven backgrounds give you a spell you can also upcast just fine, you just mark the free use on the background itself.
Hi. One question, in DnD beyond, the stat of the Pseudodragon is different if I search for the Monster vs if a search for the familiar. I'm playing as a Warlock with Pact of the Chain so this is important for me, especially the fact that the former has Perception+5 and the latter has Perception+3. Is that a typo?
i think you got confused between the rules of 2024 and 2014
2024 is +5
2014 is +3
I'm homebrewing a species, and added a selectable cantrip as one of the options. How do I put the option to choose the spellcasting modifier?
You’d need to set up an Option for each ability.
And then inside each Option, you’d add a spell choice using that ability.
I cannot find the 2024 version when I am assigning a familiar to my character in DnD beyond
Is there a way to manually add medium armor proficiency? I gained it from downtime training
I see how to add individual armor types, just not the whole medium armor subset
Do you have Core Rules enabled for that character?
You’d need to use the homebrew system for that.
I’d create a homebrew feat and give it a Modifier.
- Type: Proficiency
- Subtype: Medium Armor
Ah, lovely, that's rather irritating
A fix for this issue has been deployed - I have tested it and can confirm the dropdowns/selects in Maps on mobile have been fixed and work correctly again.
choose familiar in extras
search for pseudodragon
if you bought the monster manual 2024 you should find it
also make sure that in your character sheet settings, home, character preferences, sources,
you checked Core Rules and unchecked 2014 Core Rules, or the 2014 monsters will appear in suggestions
the 2024 version isn't in the free version so must buy the monster manual for it
To add something manually
When you are on your character sheet the block bottom left PROFICIENCIES & TRAINING
click on the block itself or the title
it will show up a pop up on right,
Choose an option, choose Armor
choose the armor(s) you want proficiency
you can technically add anything manually this way
Whom do I contact when I do not get the electronic stuff I paid for?
it can takes a bit of time to appear sometime
Thank you.. yes.
It was not showing till I got the Email from them.
Thank you again.
also the maps can take much more time to appear in the vtt compared to books
In dndbeyond homebrew subclass feature, how do I make an action that summons a monster?
in your subclass, you open the class feature which will give you the action
then go in actions, you can create a general action, give it a name, specify the level for it if you want but is already conditionned by the class feature itself,
display as attack if you want to find it easily
choose the activation type (action, bonus action, etc)
reset type to decide how many times you can use it and how you can reset its use if limited
the most important part is for you to write in snippet and description what you need to know about that action,
you can manage your extras on your character sheet to manage which creature you prepare to use which will appear in the DM VTT menu if use d&d beyond vtt
Thank you
How do I make a hyperlink reference to other features within a description of a feature?
i dont think thats possible but someone else may know
is there documentation on the writing tool?
in worst case you can always make a link to your subclass itself but not a feature
the option to create hyperlinks
also d&d beyond forbid the use of hyperlinks so you can't publish the content if is what you intended to
can only be kept private
that's fine, I was reading up on snippets I should be able to get it done with those
is there an option to change the rule for critical damages ? when have crit it rolls two dice, i usually use highest value + 1 roll
i saw that avrae bot has an option to choose but do we have a similar setting somewhere on d&d beyond to change the rule being used ?
Anything broken with the access control systems? I randomly cannot access certain pages in the 2024 DMG even when I search for a specific item. If I browse by source it allows me to read the book but some odd entries it takes me to the market place to buy the book i am currently reading. Still shows as purchase in my library. Recent issue everything was working fine ~1 hour ago I could view the pages just fine. Sword of Vengeance entry is one of the pages I know was working an hour ago and now is not.
The 2024 versions actually is in the Basic Rules.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/creature-stat-blocks#Pseudodragon
I’m afraid not.
You’re saying you can view it here in the DMG but not here on its own?
Are your entitlements in sync?
?tag ddb entitlements
Account Entitlements
Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.
The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.
Hi there, I'm a pretty new DM who's trying to run a campaign for Obojima, a new 3rd-party sourcebook from 1985 games. I have the master tier subscription and have enabled content sharing for the book which I own. However, when I try to create a character at level 3, I am unable to find the subclasses offered in the sourcebook of Obojima in the options. Why might that be?
The subclasses from that book are currently only available for the 2014 classes.
So if you’ve selected a 2024 class, you won’t see those.
ahh okay thank you. That makes sense. The company sent a 2024 sourcebook PDF to kickstarters but that's not in the DnD beyond system then I believe
Yeah. They only released those PDFs in the last week or two.
And they said they’d sent it to D&D Beyond as well.
sounds like I just gotta wait till it's updated then! got it!
But there’s been no word yet on when it’ll be available.
As a workaround in the meantime, you could make a homebrew copy of the subclass to see how it was set up, then rebuild it as a 2024 subclass.
Or if you’ve got the PDF already, you could add that version as homebrew instead.
oh perfect! I forgot about the Homebrew option. Thanks, I might just do that for my players then!
DDB wont auto-apply my Great Weapon Master additional dmg, should I just manually give the bonus to each of my heavy weapons?
aka is this a known issue or am i just doing it wrong
I have 2 questions. The first is how do I enable tashas cauldron in my character creation? So I found the custom lineage and I am trying to take the war caster feat and its not on the list?
Do you have TCoE on DnDBeyond?
Yes I purchased it on the app

It is on sync but I still do not see war caster in the feats 🤔
Are you trying to use the 2024 War Caster?
you cant use the non Origin 2024 feats with Custom Lineage or Variant Human
So i went 2014 wizard custom lineage. Is that why I cant use it? As the only content I have purchased in app is tashas
Ah, you only hve Tashas? That also explains it. You need the PHB (2014)
Ok cool I understand thank you for your help
When in the DMG looking at the armaments table the link to the sword takes me to the marketplace. Same if I search via the search bar from the top of the site. However if I go into the DMG and view the item through the alphabetical list I can view the page just fine.
Also yes DB3710000-PRE DMG Pre-order is in my licences.
(Also there are many entries in that table that have the same issue, ie pointing to the store but viewing them through the alphabetical list works just fine)
Does that mean you’re not able to access this page?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/5505-sword-of-vengeance
What other items specifically?
I'm currently making a subclass that adds a bonus +1 to cantrips specifically for both the Spell Attack Rolls and Save DC.
How could one make it work? The current Attack Roll bonus is a general one that applies to all spells, right?
Manually adjust each cantrip for +1 imo
No. It takes me to the shop, I can look through the list but the Saddle of the Cavalier for one. Tome of the Stilled Tongue, Those three seem to be the only ones.
Yeah, feels like the only option, eh? Bit of a shame, but at least it works.
I'm homebrewing a subclass. How do I make a toggleable set of features/modifiers like a Barbarian's Rage?
That uses backend magic we currently don't have access to
I think some people have done something similar with items they equip/unequip as needed
Damn, what about the resources (the little boxes) based on Proficiency or Modifiers?
I was able to have a selection for other subclasses. Maybe that could work for your subclass?
How so?
They add the feature twice.
Once that shows only in the builder, and once that shows only on the sheet.
The former has just a Description.
The latter has Description and Snippet, plus an Option to activate the feature.
And then inside the Option, you’d add whatever Modifiers and such that apply when it’s active.
And then for these, you’ll need to add an Action. Make sure to give it a Reset Type, then after you save, you should see a Limited Use section at the bottom.
I see the Limited Use now. What do I put in there, just the stat modifier?
I'm just trying to tie it to INT modifier.
How do I add the option to activate it?
Do I just need a single option to activate it, or do I need one for deactivating it, too?
Rage is set up to have you just remove your selection to deactivate it.
But if you want an Option that explicitly says it’s deactivated, you can.
It's not Rage. I'm just referring to Rage since it has that option to turn it off and on, which I'm trying to replicate on a homebrew subclass. It's for a wizard subclass.
Kind of like Bladesinging, but I wouldn't know how to go about that.
Rage has just one Option to activate it.
The player selects it to activate the feature, and unselects it to deactivate.
But if you wanted to add an Option that says “Deactivate”, you can.
Hmm, I added the Option but it's not showing at all on the character sheet I'm referring to, nor are the limited uses.
Oh wait, just needed a refresh.
Is there a way to format the text to reflect the appropriate modifier rather than me saying "your Intelligence modifier"?
Also, thanks for helping me get this far. 🙂
{{modifier:int}}
That’ll work in the Snippet field.
Not in the Description or any other field.
What is a Snippet?
Have you spotted on the character sheet that it tells you what each feature of your class/race does? Those are snippets.
When creatin...
How do I join a homebrew?
What about things like bold/italics there in the Snippets?
If you mean you’re looking for a game, you can check #looking-for-players to see what’s available.
Thanks, you're a life-saver!
On a scale of 1 to don't, how difficult would it be to put this subclass I made into dnd beyond as homebrew
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wogd5Lnd1eQSMCHXVorT9t7VlgpfiY2y0LKebkOwMuQ/edit?tab=t.0
Subclass Name - Warrior of the Eldritch Horror Main class - Monk (2024) Description: You have bound yourself to an otherworldly being. Perhaps you made a deal to gain more power to possibly quench your thirst; or maybe you were even trained by such an entity and became able to harness a similar...
I wanna know exactly what I am getting myself into
Seems complex, but largely doable.
Level 11’s Inhuman Combat probably isn’t possible.
Nor is the 1/4 damage when someone already has resistance, but since resistance isn’t really automated to begin with (i.e. since people have to reduce the damage themselves), it’s not much of an issue.
The rest all seems like it could work.
you can create homebrew monsters by using existing creatures as template
or do them from blank
so monsters can count as npcs, like the king's son?
ok thank you
you will find a lot of NPCs in it
or humanoid
like knight, etc
you can check humanoid and compare the CR to see which would meet what you're looking for and change the different stats you want
ah never mind was for hit not damage
Hello, I made a variant Aarakocra but it seems like my replacement for wind caller isnt showing?
Feature Type: Replacement means it’s an optional feature, like those in Tasha’s.
The player needs to opt in before it will be shown on their character sheet.
so then how do I make an Aarakocra subrace?
i dont understand the use of this feature, because it should show it as a trait
If you want players to get it automatically, it needs to be Granted, not Replacement.
I’d suggest making a homebrew copy of an official species that works like you want to see how it was set up.
thanks!
Is there a way to make things toggle? So like for example if I had a feature where while active you have a bonus to your athletics checks equal to your wisdom modifier is there a way to turn it on and off on the character sheet? Because that could be really useful in my case
changed this one to immunity, other stuff is able to just be made non mechanical or like you'd have to manually add it
Someone else asked the same thing earlier today. Conversation starts here:
#ddb-support message
Read it but am a bit confused. Do I make the feature then create an action which activates the feature and turns it off?
You need an Option, not an Action.
ooooh
Thing is: for me this would be an option within an option
is that possible?
Oh wait I think I figured it out
basically I'll make another option which enables or disables the feature for each of the variants
Okay I got it to work, the main thing is that Its kinda inconvenient to go out of my way to enable and disable it each time
is there a way to somehow add some type of redirection thing into the actions section?
Yeah, I’d add a base choice for the Otherwordly Being, then use that as a prerequisite for the later choices.
So if they choose Fiend, they’ll only see the Fiend-related options down the line.
Yeah I did that
should I go through the pain of making one version of an option that gives resistance and one that gives immunity?
Actually wait no it wouldn't work
nvm
I think what I have decided to do is just make 3 seperate subclasses which follow the same flavoring
its just easier
Yeah, that would definitely simplify it.
How do I make a modifier in Homebrew to add a modifier to AC?
Poorly phrased, but I mean to say, like, adding WIS to AC. Is it just Modifier Type: Bonus, Modifier Subtype: Armor Class, and then the appropriate Ability Score?
Darn. I set it up as something to activate, but I can't actually deactivate it even when I deselect it. The bonuses just keep being added over and over instead of disappearing like Rage.
I'm having a problem with purchasing digital content. whenever I do the final confirmation, it goes back to payment and shows this error. I have checked all the info and it is correct and I get a notification from my bank app saying there was a purchase each time I try to do it, but my balance stays the same.
Do you get the same issue in another browser, on another device, or with a different payment method?
I have tried using microsoft edge but it gave me a 403 error when I tried to login
Actually it seems to be letting me login now, ill try on edge, if it doesn't work i'll come back
I just tried on edge and on my phone using apple pay, both have failed with the same error. Is it just best to wait until another day and see if it sorts itself out?
At this point contacting customer service would be a good idea as they can help dig into this and figure out what’s happening.

Hello,
I raised an incident on DNDbeyond support à month ago concerning problems with getting to the end of placing an order, and i still do not have any news.
How can I have any news?
There is likely a longer queue than normal with the week that was taken off.
Probably got overlooked. Perhaps you should just explain again?
Hello Flex,
You mean here?
Well each time i want to make an order, i go through the process until the last step "place order". When i click on the button place order, the system goes back to the card informations, displaying an error message regarding my bank informations.
I cannot buy anything, and I'm afraid that the problem will happen for the yearly transfer of my subscription.
This apparently happened since i changed my bank card.
Did you check with the bank, too?
Just remember that sending in multiple tickets can end up sending you back to the end of the line. If you have already sent in a ticket just give them time to get to you.
Most issues with payment can only be resolved be Customer Service
What do you mean?
Thanks for the precision. How long could it take?
I already missed several opportunities because of this problem 😢
It may take Weeks. There are a lot of users
Unfortunately I don't know exactly how long it will take.
what is the best way to make a feature give a bonus to all attack and damage rolls equal to your wisdom modifier?
I think now all I gotta do is figure out how to complete the feature for my subclass which adds your wis modifier to attack and damage rolls (I'll be able to have it togglable once its done)
I could also figure another thing out regarding the last feature but I feel like its kinda unecissary since its just slight upgrades to prior features
Hi. The Contact Us at the bottom of the DnD Beyond site leads to a dead end. How can I contact support regarding DnD Beyond Subscriptions?
I don’t think that one’s possible.
Just include it in the text.
oh ok
what if I did it in a case by case basis?
thx
It works for me. 🤔
But you can try this link instead:

You could manually adjust the weapon you’re using as needed.
Thanks
Or add a second copy of the weapon, customize that, and just equip or unequip it when applicable.
ig, it would just be cool since I already have it so for the original feature you can toggle it to enable and disable its bonus, so if I tie it to that being active then it would also toggle and untoggle the bonus
If you can find an official feature that works like that, you could make a homebrew copy of it to see how it was set up.
Also should I make it so this feature that makes it so while a specific feature is active enemies within a certain radius are under the effects of difficult terrain appear (not the one I was just refering to btw) appears in the actions section?
But I’m not aware of any such feature.
like when that form feature is active of course
Just add an Action inside the Option.
I mean Bladesinging's level 14 feature works similarly but it seems to not add it automatically
Yeah, then it will appear when the form is active
Okay so I figured it out for melee weapons
for some reason one handed melee attacks is the only one that lets you give the benefit
Yeah so only one thing actually applies it automatically in terms of damage rolls, attack rolls are fine its just the damage rolls that only work with one handed melee attacks specifically. I'm gonna just make it apply to attack rolls and leave a note saying you gotta do damage rolls manually
How do I make a post in “looking for a dm” ?
See instructions in #find-a-game which tell you what to do with a /looking commands.
Note they have to be typed in a channel you can type in. Once the command is issued, it will open up a form for your posting. Even though you will initiate outside of looking for DM, if the command shown in #find-a-game is used, it will post it to the correct channel for the command chosen.
Magic Initiate (Wizard) doesn't seem to be raising WIS when it's selected as an option. Or, well, any of the Ability Scores, it seems. The spells I selected are also using the wrong modifier.
On DnD beyond Maps is there a way to easily see the Player's stat block directly in the sidebar without opening their sheet in a separate page?
How long until the maintenance period ends?
It’s scheduled for another hour still.
if we get our spell jammers and Harpoon guns and help clean out the Giant space eels will it go faster?
Must have worked! They finished early!
Site’s back up!
Magic Initiate isn’t meant to increase any of your ability scores. What you’re choosing there is the spellcasting ability to use for those spells.
So if you choose WIS, the spells use WIS — not INT.
I don’t believe so.
how do i regain a charge manually? I accidentally clicked the use, but then can't unclick it (this is from the item Circlet of Blasting)
find it under Features and Traits and un click it there
if its the Item find it in your inventory and click the item scroll down you should be able to unclick its use there
found it! I was looking at the actual spell, not the item, thank you!
I know it says the charge resets next dawn, but will doing "long rest" in dndbeyond also reset that
it will yes
App isn't though
do we know what the updates were?
No, it doesn’t.
Works for me. Maybe try force closing and restart it?
App working now, but books like dragon delves still not updating
Yeah, I'm following up with the devs on that one.
Crooked moon parts 1 & 2 still not updating
Yeah, they're working on it.
The book update issues in the app should now be fixed. Thanks!
@lusty void@zenith otter@zealous shell@sage compass
Saw that, thanks for the update spam
Thanks!
Don't know if this is intentional or not, but after the maintenance the descriptions of Eldrich invocations no longer appear when you select them, and as far as I can tell, there really isn't any place on this page where you can look them up, so you have to constantly switch back and forth to see what you're selecting. Starting to think someone has beef with warlocks with all the invocation issues.
That’s a known issue at the moment (and not specific to warlocks).
oh, ok, thanks.
open the player's handbook in an other tab to see directly what each does
works great on mobile phone
Heyyy guysss sooooo I figure this is an established subject but how am I supposed to use half species for 5.5? By that I mean half-elf, half-orc, etc
You can use the versions from the 2014 PHB.
But as with any older species, you'd ignore any ASIs from the species itself and use only the ones from your background.
would I just override the ASIs or did ddb set it up where it does that automatically?
If you select any 2024 background, it should happen automatically.
thanks tons
went to sign in (Chrome for some reason signs me out every few months), and all I get is a 403
Can you try clearing cache and cookies?
Figured it out. The click on the D&DB site was, for some reason, putting extra stuff in the url
Most likely a bad cache.
Question: how do I get Barbarian's rage damage to show in the attack roll damages? Am I supposed to customize it, or is it supposed to happen automatically?
If you’re using the 2024 Barb, you can go to Features & Traits and click on Rage.
Then there’s an option in the sidebar you can use to activate it.
You can unselect it to deactivate it again.
I did that and it still only shows STR damage bonus when I roll damage. 🙁
That’s correct.
When you make an attack using Strength—with either a weapon or an Unarmed Strike—and deal damage to the target, you gain a bonus to the damage that increases as you gain levels as a Barbarian, as shown in the Rage Damage column of the Barbarian Features table.
I guess I wasn't clear, the +2 rage damage bonus is not being added. I can only make a strength attack by default
Can you share a link to your character?
Please make sure in their character settings that “Character Privacy” at the bottom is set to “Public”, too.
Anyone know how to set this up?
Even if not automatic, how to make it show in the saving throws with the little A symbol as a reminder.
advantage on saving throws you make to avoid or end the paralyzed or restrained condition on yourself
You haven’t activated Rage, which is why it says “No Choice Made” here.
(Sorry, above is for a Magic Item.)
You add a modifier to give advantage on saving throws. Then in the note section of that modifier you say what you have advantage on
You’d need to add a Modifier.
- Type: Advantage
- Subtype: Saving Throws
- Description: “to avoid or end the paralyzed or restrained condition”
Thanks both!
Oh I see it was at the very bottom to activate it. How sneaky of DnD beyond. 🙂 thanks!
I have rage activated on my barbarian and I do not see any options once activated
Griffon's Saddlebag items aren't showing up for a character with all partnered content enabled [I have bought the source]. Is this just an issue on my end, or something for the DDB team to resolve?
you have to add that manually
Is there a way to make the entire app use 2014 rules? I can't seem to find any dms using 2024 rules
Options for what, exactly?
Are your entitlements in sync?
?tag ddb entitlements
Account Entitlements
Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.
The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.
Not really. You could use the Source Category filters in Listings to include only the categories you want. Leaving “Core Rules” unchecked would omit any 2024 listings.
Likewise, you can disable Core Rules for your character to hide those options on your sheet.
I found it
is there a way to use the psion through dnd beyond
or is there none cause its a psion
UA isn't supported in the DDB character builder.
And it's not possible to create homebrew classes.
So I'm afraid there's no way to use Psion.
tragic
They used to support UA, but it changes frequently enough and is dropped entirely a high enough percentage of the time that it wasn't worth them putting in the work on (sub)classes that were liable to be changed in a few months time or never actually get implemented in the first place. Add on the fact that they have to implement (sub)classes for 3rd parties as well now, and you can see why they don't do it anymore.
Just checked; they are in sync, but Griffon's Saddlebag isn't showing up in my Current Product Licenses [other 3rd-party content is].
Then you haven't purchased that book.
If you're able to access it anyway, it's probably being shared with you through one of your campaigns.
But shared character options can only be used inside the campaign that's sharing them.
If you want to use it in another campaign, you'd need to either purchase the book or get someone in that campaign to share it as well.
Ah, that makes sense. Had it in my basket but didn't check out.
Thanks for the help!
Hi! In general, how quick/responsive is D&D Beyond to help requests? I just joined last week and already managed to mess up my account access. I submitted a ticket. Definite user error. 😒
Varies depending on their case workload. Sorry we don’t have a way to definitively answer how quickly they’ll respond.
They will answer though but do double check your spam filters so you don’t miss a response.
To add to UndyingNoob's comment, definitely don't put in multiple tickets for the same issue. That'll push you farther back on the priority list.
Thanks, and no worries. I'm not starting any immediate games so it's not critical. I'm more mad at myself for being a goob.
Thank gods I'm not that much of a goob. Just one ticket (but a legion of reset passwords requests.....😬)
I've noticed if your ticket is easy they sometimes process faster, so if it's just an account lockout thing hopefully you can get back in quickly.
Wait the new artificer version on dnd beyond is changed to december?
I thought it was coming around late august
Oh i see the reason why
Bit disepointing but eh need to live with it
yeah the physical printing met issues and didnt pass qa so big delay
Thats understandble
Options in the character builder should now be showing their descriptions again. Thanks!

Thank you very much!
Yayyy
Excellent!
hi cant find any Tattoo to add to character on DDB got Extended rules enabled
Shows up for me, at least. Here's some things you can check, though:
?tag ddb missing
Missing Content?
If you can’t access a book or find an available character option, here’s some important things to check:
- Are your Account Entitlements in sync? If not, you’ll see a button to let you manually trigger a sync.
- Did you purchase the book yourself, or is it shared with you through one of your campaigns?
- If you purchased it, is it listed under Current Product Licenses?
- If it’s shared with you, is this character assigned to the campaign that’s sharing it?
- Do you have the right checkboxes enabled in your character settings? The checkboxes at the top under “Sources” and “Partnered Content” control which options are available for your character. If in doubt, check them all.
- Are you using the right class? There are two versions of each core class: the 2024 one under "Core Rules" and the 2014 one under "2014 Core Rules". Options available for one might not be available for the other. For example, some options for
Cleric (the 2024 class) might not be available for
Cleric (the 2014 class) and vice versa.
there is a bit of a contradiction in the grim hollow book and I'm not sure what to make of it:
I'd recommend discussing that one with Ghostfire Gaming, the publisher of Grim Hollow.
the only thing I can think is there not there for 2024 characters as ya they do for my 2014 one
can that be added to the update list? lol there meant to be backwards compatible after all
Question regarding the Advanced Weapons in Grim Hollow. Where even are they?
There's a section on Advanced Weapons & Equipment, they go over the new properties and mastery properties there.
But there's no section including any actual weapons for them
How do I load maps from dragon delves in maps VTT?
Which items are visible does not depend on your class.
Have you purchased TCOE yourself? If not, are those two characters both assigned to a campaign that's sharing that book?
I own the book, one that can see it is (2014) just in my character list the one that cant is in a Campaign (2024)
They can be seen in the weapon tables at the end of that page.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/ghpg/chapter-5-advanced-weapons-equipment#AdvancedMeleeWeaponsTable
Ah, odd. There isn't a tab on the side for them that I can see. Thanks
Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing.
I think that's built automatically using the headers on the page.
Would make sense
But since there's not really a header for this table section, nothing shows up.
I'm gonna flag that with the devs to see if there's anything they can do.
Is that book listed here under Current Product Licenses?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
I have checked all my 2014 characters can see them non of the 2024 ones I tried can see any of the tattoos
Apparently the class page and the character sheet show 6d6 at level 15.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/2566877-monster-hunter#DeadlyRedirect-12075922
I don't know. It works for me.
I selected a 2024 Barb with the 2024 Acolyte background and the 2024 Human species, and all tattoos showed up as expected.
There's no system that would cause any of those selections to affect the available equipment.
ok odd I made a brand new character and it could see them, the only dif with the new and the older ones is the older ones had 2014 core disabled but they still had extended rules enabled
All I have enabled on my character at the moment is Core Rules, Expanded Rules, and Grim Hollow.
I honestly have no idea. That's very strange.
You could try contacting customer service and have them check under the hood.

what is this button I see at the top of the species rules do
I have 3 ideas for you.
-
I know this is going to sound a little stupid but because D&D Beyond may have just burped, have you tried turning it off and on again? In this case, I mean, untick Expanded Rules, refresh the Features and Traits page, search again, then turn back on Expanded and try the refresh and search again.
-
Clear cache. Seriously. Beyond is very liberal with caching and a bunch of this really odd behaviour comes down to Beyond wanting to cache its way through the situation. Trying a different browser or device is another way to tell if it is somewhat specific to this browser.
-
One of my players eliminated one of his problems by recreating the character. I know, extreme. I don't think copying will work. If you have time to burn, you could add things slowly and check after each step but for this I would just try making the whole character and see if it appears. As a matter of reference & backup, don't delete the old one until your new one is satisfactory.
If it is being generated by Beyond, it likely wants you to subscribe or upsell you to a higher sub.
Beyond is constantly inserting things like this although as I am already master, mine are usually content related. "Perks" are Beyond slang for monthly subscription or other types of purchase based freebies. These types of ads come & go.
thank you
would be nice if they didnt slam this to people who already use the highest sub lol
I can't find Drow in the race menu, I've purchased the guide book for them but they're not appearing
Which book specifically?
I can't remember the name, but it gives you the feral tiefling
There’s no book that contains both of those.
It does because I got Drow Half-Elf from the guide book I bought
Which is meant to come with Drow
SCAG does have the Drow Half-Elf.
Sword coast AG
It does not have the regular Drow.
Have you looked under half elf race option?
I'm talking about Drow, I have the Half-Drow
Ok I've bought the PHB 2024 version and clicked refresh but nothing's changed, does it take a while for it to change?
For the 2024 PHB, you need to select the Elf species under Core Rules.
Then you can select Drow for their Elven Lineage trait.
Are you on about subrace?
It’s a choice within the elf species, not a species itself.
Yes but there's no option to choose lineage
Then select Drow.
Nvm I see it now, I don't see it like how you showed in the pictures
What do you see? 🤔
I see this
Hi there another question! Last night I preordered the forgotten realms ultimate bundle on d&d beyond, and it took out the full amount yesterday. But checking my account a portion of it was returned? Why is this? I am worried I won't get the extras that come with the pre-order.
Where do I choose the oath that my Drow Paladin is going to be?
at level 3
Alright
Short answer is that you’re charged for the digital items now, then charged for the physical items when they’re ready to ship. Long answer here:
https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/19045445378708-Pre-Order-FAQ#h_01J7P55A509YCAK03XY2XHNX2W
oof Thank you! why is this? I feel like...this causes issues for people living paycheck to paycheck LOL but gotcha!! thank you!
I have a question on n the grim hollow books, the book says you can pick and choose traits, I assumed this world be from the origin manager in the species tab, but it doesn't have any options. am I missing something or is it just not a thing yet?
No idea, tbh. 😅
But charging for physical preorders when they ship is fairly common practice.
If you preorder a book on Amazon, for example, they don’t charge until then.
Ah gotcha! This is the first physical book I am pre-ordering! thank you! I usually buy the physical books after, but this was the first time a phys and digital bundle enticed me.
There's not a built-in selection for those, but you could use the homebrew system to create a species with your selected traits.
If you're modifying an existing one, you can select it as a template first to get an exact copy, then adjust it as needed.
I see... Life is pain...
Yeah, I was trying to make a homebrew version that would let the traits be selected, but there's just no way to really do it exactly as written. There'd have to be some compromises.
Fixed! The book was updated to 6d6 at level 15 to match the character sheet.
oh nice, awesome. Thank you very much
hello,
i was looking for something in the dndbeyond marketplace and noticed that some of the book entries now say "Compatible With The 2024 Core Rulebooks" but only some of them.
did WotC update these few books in some way from the original release?
or were the rules for those ones just close enough?
some of them, like Curse of Strahd are older even.
looks like "compatible" ones are:
Curse of Strahd
Candlekeep Mysteries
Vecna: Eve of Ruin
Quests from the Infinite Staircase
Vecna: Nest of the Eldritch Eye
what does "compatible" mean here though? like, all the 5e ones should be decently close enough to compatible still i thought?
Vecna and Quests surely received it because by that point, the 2024 rules had already been announced.
Not sure how they decided what other books to add it to.
But no, those books haven't been updated in regards to the 2024 rules.
Like you said, any 5e adventure should still be reasonably compatible.
yeah, just seemed weird or arbitrary that those 5 have that advertisement but nothing else does, with no real explanation.
I would hazard a guess that when the 2024 rules were coming out those were the best sellers and they wanted people to know they would still be useable with the new rules.
But again thats a guess
I suspect the same. Any of the adventures are implicitly compatible, and all the DM would have to do is use the new rules and MM24 stat blocks in the place of any MM14 stat blocks.
So when trying to get my wife set up it gives me this
Are they using a school-provided account?

Out of curiosity where do I view my purchases (assuming you can even do that)?
How do I use dragon delves with maps? When I go to campaigns they do bot show up.
You can view your order history here (https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/order-history)
Or your product Licenses here (https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses)
Do you own Dragon Delves or is it shared with you. If its shared, you wont be able to use it in maps as the maps tool doesnt use shared content.
I own it
Alright thanks
Have you checked that your entailments are in sync? That can be done here (https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses)
Yes they are
For the Dragon Delves Maps problem... In case noone else has suggestions, Entitlements is usually the problem but if you're sure you have checked, you may want to start a support ticket but be aware that others have reported it taking weeks to get a response. They are apparently also backed up due to a week off for Gencon recently.

i have a homebrew spell that I'm attaching to a homebrew weapon. I'm trying to make it something like booming blade--it can be cast once per dawn with a verbal command when the melee attack is made. all of that is fine and working, but i'm trying to get it to scale with the character's level. I looked at the mechanics of how guiding bolt scales by acting like I'm going to make a homebrew based on that spell and copied that mechanic, but I think the problem is it is trying to attach it to spell level rather than character level. in fact I made a copy of the charact and moved the level around and it actually went down one (2d6 + 5 to 2d6 +4) when the character went from 7 to 13. Any help is appreciated.
Ok, I think I figured it out. Had it wrong the scaling set wrong in the top area. I'm fixing that and will come back if there are still issues.
hello, is there a specific kind off video file that works for animated maps? like a codec or somehing? I know it needs to be mp4 and smaller than 100mb but im trying a file and it doesnt work
Can you gift something like Grim Hollow on D&D?
Yep! Just make sure to check the Gift Purchase box during checkout. You'll get a redemption code that you can send to whoever you like.
Awesome, thanks!
So I've been trying to add charges to class feature but it just will not show up. Tell me if i did something wrong,
That looks right to me. Some things to note.
You have to hit the main save button on each level as you move up in your homebrew.
You may also need to wait 15mins for changes to homebrew to show up on a character sheet.
As a rogue character I see that D&D Beyond only allows for the subclass 'Thief', is there something I need to do to access the other subclasses?
You’d need to own whatever book contains the subclass you want to use.
Or have your character assigned to a campaign where that book is shared with you.
Note: you need to own it or have it shared with you digitally. The paper copies of the books do not give access to the online character creator.
So im making this homebrew monster stat block and it won't let me upload it to public because its got "external links" on it, but the links are litterally for the dnd beyond website, i was just ttrying to reference some kinda neach items for people to make it easier to navigate. Am i missing the obvious way to link info this way? is there a way to even do it? It seems kind of silly to not be able to link someone to your own info page, and you can hardly call that external
Try removing the link and using a tooltip instead.

Worth noting, though, that Serpent Venom and Serpent Venom (Injury) are functionally identical.
The former is just the 2024 version, while the latter is 2014’s.
So I’d list just one of them, personally.

ah ok, ill fix that thanks for the catch
appreciarte the article
Does anyone know what this is from?
Does it not say in the sidebar after you click on it?
It says content not found
Im going to say its homebrew because of "You take 1.5d6 Force damage"
I have homebrew disabled for the sheet tho
If you had it turned on, then added it, then turned it off it would stay on the sheet
Whats your Rogue's subclass?
I would rather it stay in public chat so if you dont feel comfortable sending a link to it here then you dont have to.
Could you send a screenshot of what feats you have?
I think a mod or someone who can look more into will have to look because I keep getting
Content Error
We couldn't find that content! Please try again.
Okay, thank you for trying
I get the same thing, unfortunately. 😅
Googling the name suggests it's a Crooked Moon thing.
I'm checking that book to try and find out more.
Apparently it's part of a Dark Bargain called "Self-Serving Sacrifice".
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/tcmp1/dark-bargains#Self-ServingSacrifice
But I don't see that anywhere else on your character sheet. 🤔
Just to update, it was pretty complicated to figure out but i got it to work through trial and error so ty
Thank you!
Try this:
- Go to your character settings and make sure these options are enabled:
- Avantris Entertainment
- Optional Class Features
- Go to the Class page and click "Optional Feature Manager".
- Enabled "The Crooked Moon: Dark Bargain".
- Switch back to "Class Features".
- If that Dark Bargain is selected, unselect it.
- Switch back to "Optional Feature Manager" and disable "The Crooked Moon: Dark Bargain".
Okay, thx
Hello,
I’m currently playing a character using several options from The Crooked Moon bundle. I chose the Cultist background, which grants the Cult Initiate feat. However, I noticed that none of the starting spells I select from that feat appear on my character sheet in D&D Beyond.
I have tried re‑selecting the options and reviewing the character builder, but the spells still don’t populate on the sheet. Is this a known issue, or am I perhaps missing a step in the process?
Any guidance or fixes would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

what does it say in features&traits?
Hey guys, I'm trying to use D&D Maps, but it is returning that something went wrong in every campaign. Is it undergoing an update or something?
I just got a message from the team that Maps is experiencing issues; I'm about to put out an announcement!
Ok, thanks. If possible, keep me updated
Maps Issues: #dnd-announcements message
So i am guessing dragon delves is not a self contained campaign for maps and they have to be incorporated into a campaign i create in maps
You need to create a Campaign before you can open Maps.
Once you open Maps, you can select the maps from any book you have.
Hi!
So everyone here is playing in englisch, right?
Is there any chance of finding a german talking Group here (or do we get some time to translate)?
You can use our Looking For Game channels for groups that play in German (or put your own post, in English, but indicate that you are looking to play in German).
See #find-a-game to learn how to use our Looking For Game channels.
I've been told that Maps is back up and running!
I've sent that to the devs for review. Thanks!
it shows there but the spells don't appear even the one free use.
Thank you
Indeed it is. Thank you very much
DDB basic rules not updating
It seems like another downloading issue it's probably best to wait for it to be fixed
Yeah, I’ve flagged it with the devs.
Will the transformations from Grimhollow be able to get added to sheets? I can't find anything for them to be added
please ping me if theres a solution
How do I make a 2024 Homebrew race have the ASIs that work instead of either doubling up or not existing at all
They stated in a message from the Kickstarter that transformations were not able to be done on the D&DBeyond character sheet.
"The full Transformation and Heritage Traits rules are still included in the D&D Beyond compendium and remain a core part of the Grim Hollow experience. However, they won’t appear as automated character options in the character builder on D&D Beyond."
Here is a link to the post: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ghostfiregaming/grim-hollow/posts/4464234
I have a problem. After I homebrewed a subclass, I had an option that could be selected that impacted Unarmored Movement and Armour Class. When I deselect it, it doesn't revert back to the original movement or armour class; reselecting it just keeps raising those two additively.
The only way I've reset it is having to select another subclass and going back, but that's not ideal.
Shame. Oh well
By which source will the "Hexblade Warlock revised" version released ?
Not in anything releasing this year, and they haven’t revealed titles for next year.
Basic Rules download should be fixed! Thanks!
@lusty void @spiral cove
The ASIs you are refereeing to are handled by backgrounds now. If a player picks a spices with an ASI and a background with one then DnD Beyond will only use the background ASIs
-# Or should only use the background ones
I think the issue occurs with getting the "automatic" ASI options for old backgrounds to work with homebrew species (it doesn't).
They probably have some hard-coded stuff on the backend to make it work.
So when I was editing my homebrew subclass and I added “additional specific spells” in basic information for my patron and I saved changes the changes never appeared on my character with the subclass equipped. Why is that? And how do I get them to appear?
If someone has another way to add spells to warlock subclass pls tell me
And is anything wrong with this?
That field works differently depending on the class.
If it's a 2014 subclass, it simply add those to the Warlock spell list for you to choose from. You'd still need to then choose the spell.
For the 2024 Warlock, I'd expect it to make the spells automatically prepared, but maybe it doesn't. I'd recommend making a homebrew copy of an official subclass to peek inside and see how they set it up.
How do you make a copy?
When you go to create a subclass, you can select any existing subclass as a template.
Ok thx
Worth noting, too, that sometimes homebrew edits can take up to 15 minutes to appear on the sheet.
So if those spells weren't there to begin with and you just barely added them, it might just take a little time to show up.
How do you check if it’s 2014 or 2024 when it’s already created
It’s been like 30 minutes and nothing has happened
If you view the subclass page, you should see
or
at the top.
The first is 2014, the second is 2024.
Alternatively, you can try to create a character and add the subclass.
If you make a
Warlock and can add the subclass, then it's a 2024 subclass.
It’s a 2014
Then yeah, that field is working as intended.
2014 Fiend, for example, says:
The Fiend lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
The character doesn't get the spells automatically. It just lets them choose one of those spells in addition to their normal choices.

No mention of problem similar to me at all
You would have to submit a ticket with regards to a purchase
Oh I is that so thanks
Or "dnd beyond help" then "subscription help"
Ye but I can’t choose them either
I only got the normal choices
I ended up adding the ASIs as an additional option after a lot of yelling, complaining and arguing with the boys™️
I've been having an interesting issue the last few days where all of the Crooked moon feats don't add anything to the character sheet. The feats were already buggy as hell, but now they just strait up don't work. Altered doesn't give armor class with either option, cult initiate doesn't make spells appear on the sheet. I'm not sure if I did something, or if it's sitewide.
Yeah, the devs are working on those.
(But given the current time and the fact it’s a holiday weekend…)
I did something dumb.
So as a DM - I had a player that originally rolled heals (for the first time - cleric) and he really wasn't vibing with it. So being a generous DM... I'm allowing that player and another player to change roles - he becomes a tank and the other player becomes the healer.
So he created his new character as he should and I helped out the other player by creating the heals character based on their specs.
here inlies the issue: I created the character. I heard a rumor that a character can export and another player can import to their account to have a copy. How is that done?
From what I'm reading... it doesn't seem possible
It is. You add it to the campaign, unassign it, and have someone else in the same game claim it.
Has to be done on the web portal, not mobile.
ahh ok.
Thank you!
And that will allow them to manage the character sheet and everything?
They fully take ownership, yes.
perfect. Thank you so much!
I'm new to DnDBeyond. Loving it but some of the more back-end things I'm still learning
All good, yeah. This is not something that comes up often!
So I bought the 2024 rule books for my group’s campaign, shared them and am having the group remake their characters from the 2014 version. They can access the new PHB I shared with them but don’t have the full range of options when building their character, eg the paladin can only choose “oath of devotion” as their level 3 subclass and not any of the others in the PHB. Anyone have experience with an issue like that?
Is everyone making their characters in the campaign where that content is being shared?
Also make sure everyone's entitlements are in sync
?tag ddb entitlements
Account Entitlements
Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.
The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.
Are these accessible via the app
I think they need to go through the webiste but let me double check
I’m guessing this might be the issue as they can access the phb in the app, but the character builder is in a popup browser window
How do you calculate a custom monsters Hit Points Modifier?
Yeah I can see a way to do it via the App. Also do not that if you only purchased and shared the book recently it could take a bit of time for the entitlements to sync out to everyone.
I'm not sure I understand? Usually you just set the hit dice type, pick how many hit dice in total, and then figure out the average of that and maybe padd it with some additional hit points to create the creature's hitpoints total to achieve the kind of monstear you feel would work well for your needs.
Maybe folks in #homebrew would have ideas and opinions on how to calculate a creature's hit points based on CR level
It’s been a few days. How does one access this via the app?
I could've sworn I put this in homebrew...
Sorry I mean you can't access it through the app (but perhaps restarting the app may trigger a check on entitlements?). You have to do it through the website to go to https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses and check your accounts entitlements are in sync.
ok so i see that i've got the product keys for the original 2014 stuff
and the 2024 stuff i have as 'purchase sourcebook' -
is this something i need to have players also check?
As long as someone in the campaign has an active Master Tier subscription and the DM who owns that DnDBeyond campaign has enabled content sharing, then everyone’s content will be shared in that campaign. The folks wanting to use the 2024 classes will need to make sure they select a 2024 class when creating their character sheet.
In my experience you don't need to be a DM to enable content sharing, only need master tier sub, and things to share. I've enabled it and disabled it on multiple occasions for campaigns I don't own but play in.
Correct - just someone in the campaign needs to have an active Master Tier license (a Master Tier subscription can unlcok content sharing on up to 5 campaigns)
yeah, that's the problem. we've got all that content shared at least via the app (they can open the phb etc), and are able to make their characters in the 2024 style, but the options are restricted - like the subclasses have only one option available under the dropdown, e.g. 'oath of devotion' under core rules, when there should be more
I'm not sure why it's not working - at this point it may need customer service to dig in and poke things in the backend.

Paladin?
they selected the
And each one of them checked the link to see if their own entitlements were in sync?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
the one i'm working with has 'your entitlements data is in sync!' under licenses
All these things need to be true to access that subclass:
- Content Sharing is enabled for the campaign.
- Someone in the campaign owns the 2024 PHB.
- The player’s entitlements are in sync.
- This character is assigned to that campaign.
- Core Rules is enabled for that character.
- They selected the right class. (
)
#4 may be the issue, they just copied their original but i don't see that it's assigned to the campaign yet
Yeah, shared character options can only be used inside the campaign that’s sharing them.
They can use the invite link at the top of the campaign to add this new character, too.
ok i think i got it then. so for the rest of our group the proper order of things will be to
- create a copy of current character
- delete all levels
- rejoin current campaign with new character
- rebuild character
- deactivate original chacter
Should work, yeah!
ok thanks! not that you're the responsible parties but having a quick article that outlined that process available on the dnd beyond website might save a lot of angst
Is this broken doesn't seem to be able to select anything here?
You need to choose your Gnomish Lineage first.
On your Home tab of the character, check that Core Rules is ticked. All options will disappear if it is unticked.
Core Rules was ticked and I did select Forest Gnome before trying to set but I just went back using the Manage Character button after I was finished and now the selections are there. Must be a bug just when getting there on the first time.
But thanks for the responsse
did the same for elf see the selection is made and the drop down doesn't populate.
if you refresh your browser it fixes it but wanted to point it out
I was able to reproduce this, so it's not just you at least

This works
Hard to say without knowing how it was made. I’m guessing this was set up as an Option?
I’d start by trying this:
- Open that feature
- Remove your selection
- Wait a few seconds
- Refresh the page
- Open the feature again
- If it still shows a selection, repeat until it does not.

How would I in home brew go about combining two magic items into one? So it has the abilities of both magic items
write up both of the abilities, or get them both and treat it as one
I’m new so can I just cut and paste the abilities
yeah
hey is there no way to add Grim Hollow transformation traits to characters?
Make a custom homebrew feat. No built-in way at the moment.
I changed the version of the subclass and broke the options, it's saying there is already one active (there was in the previous version, but not in this version)
I tried already refreshing + disabling options / enabling options
It works with a new character, but on this old one it might be broken forever 😢
You could try making a copy of that character and see if that resolves it.
If not, you could try removing and readding the class, using the copy to make sure you’ve got the same things selected.
Otherwise, you could try contacting customer support to see if they can help.
Nooo, I just tried all of that (and.. didn't fix it) - I guess I could just recreate the character manually...
is there anyone here that works for dndbeyond?
I want to create a custom race that allows you to select two skill proficiencies to get from a list of :Arcana, History, Religion and Nature. I'm not able to get anything other than one option. How can I do this?

Hi I am new here and new to D&D, I got a master subscription on the ipad but when login in on my browser it does show as is, or I mean I think
What are you expecting to see that you don't?
I clicked on subscription and it gave me the choice to select the option master while I already did on the app. I wanted to be sure it's recognized on my browser, so I am not sure if it should look different
If you visit https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses while logged in it should show your subscription
But clicking the subscribe button on the top menu always acts like your not subscribed
great that was what I was looking to check. thank you
Somebody made the Altered feat give you an AC equal to 13+Dex score instead of modifier.
wonder if my DM will notice xP
and the con variant is also messed up
it gives you AC equal to 13 + Con score + dex modifier
the stats of the character in question
This is one reason why it is often recommended that Homebrew be tested before publishing. All kinds of silliness can happen, some of it actually unintentional.
Altered is not homebrew, it's partnered content.
if it was homebrew I could fix it myself
I mean, I can overwrite the AC to fix it even now, but you know
Ah, if DDB is doing that without a homebrew implementation, sounds like a bug.
Yeah, I’ve let the devs know. Thanks!
the backend of the feat is just set wrong, it's an easy fix, also cult initiate is still not working, they should make their lives easy and copy magic initiate, then change the reset to short rest, that works a lot better instead of whatever the current mess is.
Hi, where can I check that? or how long take to review this kind of bugs?
there's not really a way to know which bugs are currently being worked on
I am working on an artificer class using the Tasha's expansion and everything is great besides the prepared spells being Legacy. How do I change these?
Do you have Core Rules turned on and 2014 Core Rules disabled?
Legacy stuff is often old content active for me.
If those are your subclass spells, you’d need to make a homebrew copy of that subclass and change them there.
Okay I can't make a copy because my friend/dm owns the book in the campaign and shares it with me.
For now I will just write down the new versions of these 6 spells and keep a note on them
- Conjure Barrage got upgraded to 5d8 instead of 3d8 to be more aligned with Fireball scaling, and the damage type is Force instead of matching the damage of the weapon
- Branding Smite was renamed to Shining Smite, works on melee weapons and unarmed, but no longer ranged
- Aura of Vitality happens automatically at the start of your turn, no bonus action required anymore
I am aware that this probably is very.. slow of me but I JUST now noticed that Tasha’s and Xanathars which I bought like 2 weeks ago thinking they reflect the 2014 versions must’ve been updated to reflect the new 2024 core rules.
Now while this is great, I actually purchased them to use them with the 2014 rules.
Any way to access the old stuff in both the character creator and the old books themselves?
Tashas and Xanathars are not changed from their initial release (which was before the 2024 updates).
You may need to toggle on Legacy and toggle off Core to get just the 2014 classes.
I‘ll have a look. I don’t know how 2014 characters work (I believe to remember having read that subclass was right from the get go) and just saw that the artificer subclass comes with level 3 in Tasha’s when using the expanded rules check box so I figured there must be a way to get access to however that worked before
So for example it should look like this. Note how Core Rules is off, Expanded Rules is on (allowing for Tashas and Xanathars Expanded rules) and 2014 Core Rules and Legacy/Noncore is on as well.
And then make sure to only select classes found under the 2014 Core Rules
Ah so this is why, the new artificer is still not released! A lot of things are changing. For now I can make the relevant notes and share them with my friend/dm for the legacy spell changes. It's nothing game breaking, just a few quality of life improvements honestly, and more rp potential
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/ua/the-artificer
https://media.dndbeyond.com/compendium-images/ua/the-artificer/AzQEA72K8EMf9HmU/UA2024-Artificer.pdf
Thanks!
Artificer subclasses were always at level 3. That class has not been (and won’t be) changed.
The new artificer will be set up as a separate class. Those changes won’t be applied to the existing artificer.
Oh alright perfect ty!
So for magical ammo like +1 arrows it does not add the bonus to the dmg of the bow when the ammo is equipped
Fixed!
The wrong AC calculation for the Altered feat is still a thing tho
but I may just need to remove the feat and add it again
So for gim hollow, how can I make my studded leather into hunters armor on DDB
Every tenth mouseclick or input I get this screen, it is annoying. When I use a redirect on my cell phone I get this every time. What's up with that?
Hello I am trying to make a post for my campaign for my game for tomorrow but some weird reason it keeps bringing back to the dnd discussion channel its very nerve racking what do I have to do in order for it to stop?
I'm not able to see the Oath of Glory paladin subclass, but I have purchased the 2024 players handbook - am I missing something that I need to tick in the character settings?
Are you using

have you checked your Entitlements? They might not be synced
I did purchase the book when it was released, could it not have synced from then?

sometimes it can be a bit weird, doesnt hurt to check it out
mm actually yeah the 2024 handbook doesn't show up -- what do I have to do to enable it? It says my data is in sync at the top, does that mean I didn't purchase the book? I was able to access the content on the DDB wiki which I though I'd be prevented from doing if I hadn't purchased it
make sure it says this. If its not in sync, it should have a button that lets you do so
yeah that's exactly what it says, I checked the marketplace and it looks like maybe I hadn't purchased the book. I'm a bit confused why I was able to access the DDB wiki content for the 2024 PHB then, I though DDB prevented you from viewing content you didn't own. Also thought that I did purchase the book but maybe not..
you might be accessing it from someone else's campaign
mm ok yeah that is possible, thanks for your help 🙂
Yeah, if it’s shared with you, you’d be able to read the book in full.
But you’d only be able to use those shared character options in the campaign that’s sharing it.
When Homebrewing a Race on DND Beyond, how do I make it so Natural Unarmored Defense granted from the Race doesn't add Dex Mod twice?
Running into an issue where it is doing the normal Dex bonus to AC and then adding it again with the Race Feature, how do I stop that? 😮
Tried adding these as an Ignored Modifier and still won't stop adding the Dex twice >.>
What do?
First, any AC always starts with 10+Dex.
Which means if you then select Dex, it’ll add it again.
So you’ll probably want to go back in and unselect it.
Which brings us to the second point: homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to appear on your sheet.
Sheeesh 15 minutes?! 😮
I was following this, so it says if I set Ignore Unarmored Dex AC Bonus it will remove the standard Dex bonus
So this was how I set up the Mods for the racial feature I am trying to set up
But if I get rid of the Dex select on the first part of the Mod then should I delete the second part for the ignore mod?
I’d do just a single modifier.
Type: Set
Subtype: Unarmored Armor Class
Fixed Value: 4
Which should give you a base AC of 14+Dex.
You’d only want that Ignore if you’re using another ability instead of the normal Dex.
Right on! This is how I have it set now 🙂
And I guess now I wait 15 minutes for it to refresh / appear on the sheet
Might not actually take that long. It all depends on the cache timing.
They cache it to keep things loading faster when you’re actually playing, but it can slow things down when you aren’t. 😅
So far me messing with it seemed to negate the entire affect of the Unarmored AC x.x now I'm not getting any bonuses
This damn cache catching up is annoying lol
As I sent that last msg it actually did update to the proper amount, and now I havent even touched it since and it is adding double Dex again for no reason xD
Trying to select Battle Smith Defender to a Battle SMith Artificer returns a 404 error and crashes the page.
I am having an issue that when anyone rolls dice, they just show three dots in the game log, I am the dm and cant see anyones rolls either. It is only affecting 1 campaign. Anyone had the issue before and know how to fix it
if I reload it will show all the previous rolls, but until i do, its just three dots. Doesnt matter if they roll from character sheets, the app, absolutely nothing
Do you get the same issue in another browser or on another device?
I have tried every browser, I have tried the apps. It only affects the one campaign, no issue on the other campaigns.
What’s the name of that campaign?
Ghosts of saltmarsh

Is there a way in Homebrew to make a weapon use Spellcasting modifiers instead of STR or DEX?
I've made a college of lore bard and because my level is so high that i can access druid wizard and cleric spells as well as bard, the spell list is crashing my sheet constantly
Doesn’t appear to be crashing for me, but I do get some noticeable lag when it pulls the list for me.
Good morning - I bought Tasha's Cauldron last night so that I could create an NPC for a campaign I am running and spec as way of mercy monk. When I go to select subclass, way of astral self is available, but way of the drunken master is also available but not mercy.
Might be a coding/permissions issue but I am wondering if there is a way in my control to fix it? I emailed DND Beyond, but no idea how quickly they get to things like this.
I’ll bet you’ve selected
Monk, the 2024 class.
For that one, you’d need the 2024 PHB and its updated Warrior of Mercy subclass.
Alternatively, you can remove your class and select
Monk instead, the 2014 class.
TCOE’s Way of Mercy will work for that one.
but isn't TCOE updated for 2024?
yes that worked when selecting 2014 monk. But i do have PHB 2024 so it's odd i wouldn't have seen that anyway
Per the rules in the PHB, the expectation is for players to use only the latest versions of the things found in that book.
In this case: Warrior of Mercy, not Way of Mercy.
Any older subclasses that were not updated in the PHB can continue to be used on the 2024 classes.
As for why Warrior of Mercy might not show up…
?tag ddb missing
For example, some options for
Cleric (the 2024 class) might not be available for
Cleric (the 2014 class) and vice versa.
so, i'm in a campaign and i know the dm has all the sourcebooks-i've seen them enabled and on his account, but whenever i try to make a character i only have access to the base subclasses? i've checked the boxes, the class, everything. it's really bugging me because i'm setting up a new character for after my current one retires and i need it soon haha
other players in the campaign have access to non-base options too
Is this character in that campaign?
yes
Are your entitlements in sync?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
yes
What specific subclass are you trying to find?
i was making a cleric and i was just looking for any, all i have access to right now is life and one of their hombrews
Did you select
Cleric or
Cleric?
i did 2014, and on the off chance i checked 2024 as well. both didn't work
Are you able to see the Knowledge Domain here?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/2-cleric#KnowledgeDomain
It sounds like the books aren't being shared with you, then.
Who enabled Content Sharing for that campaign?
If they check this page, does it still show an active subscription?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
dm pretty sure
I'd suggest checking with them to make sure it's been enabled and that they still have an active subscription.
If all these things are true, you should be able to see Knowledge Domain at the link above:
- Content Sharing is enabled for the campaign.
- Someone in that campaign owns the 2014 PHB.
- You have any character assigned to that campaign.
- Your entitlements are in sync.
You may want to contact customer support, then, and have them take a closer look.

Have the DM toggle sharing on and off. That seems to fix this issue for me when I see it, which happens occasionally.
Yo does anyone know where to find grievous wounds in grim hollow campaign guide
The campaign guide’s not out until the end of the month.
Im finding monster hunting tools in the list of items in dnd beyond and I have no idea where they are coming from. Does anyone know?
Probably from Heliana’s Guide to Monster Hunting: Part 1
I dont have that book though.
And actually I have the paper version. Helianas doesn't have monster hunting tools
Do you mean Monster Hunter's Pack?
Gear from Curse of Strahd.
Includes a chest, a crowbar, a hammer, three wooden stakes, a holy symbol, a flask of holy water, a set of manacles, a steel mirror, a flask of oil, a tinderbox, and 3 torches.
When using the Encounter Builder, is there a one-click way to filter out content I don't own? Going through every single source is really annoying.
'pologies. Monster Harvesting Tools. I see that too. I can also see "Surgeon's Tools" which I cannot explain. "Whistle-Stick" and "Witchboard" appear on some character sheets, and I cant explain why the difference.
Monster Harvesting Tools is listed on page 378 of Monsters of Drakkenheim, although we don't have that content listed or shared in our campaign. However I think that is gear rather than a tool proficiency.
Ooooooooh
Thanks
How can I add spells to my Known Spells list permanently please?
My DM approved my Storm Sorcerer gaining these:
It can only be done with a homebrew background, but if you want to just add them to your sheet it's probably easier to do it with a homebrew feat.
If I did that, would they function as always prepared?
I had the same thought.
Trying to create a homebrew was pretty daunting just now.
The background is probably closer in behavior to what your image above shows. The feat is much easier to do, but shows them as always prepared, yes, so might not be as convenient.
What I tend to do for my own sanity is to have a custom feat and just add whatever new spells I have at any given moment to it and change it as needed.
Aaaah, so it would subtract from my prepared spell choices if I don't do this right, yeah?
Actually, the feat might be closer in behavior to what your image shows if your DM intends for them to always be prepared.
I want them to function as intended and I am feeling a bit confused.
However, whatever you say is the best way, I will put in the effort to learn.
They wouldn't "cost" you spells that way.
Yup, that's the intent
Okay, well this is pretty easy then. Just make a custom feat from scratch, add the spells in the section shown in the image, save, add it to collection (do NOT publish), turn on homebrew for the character, and then give it to your character.
Thanks for all your help, by the way!
Does every slot have to be filled in that Add Spell wizard?
Nah. Just leave most of it alone if you want the spells to behave normally.
Only field you need to mess with is the top left field for "Spell" to tell it which spell to add.
The others are for if you want to tweak the spell's behavior somehow, which you don't want.
Nice! Got overwhelmed.
I really appreciate you digging into it. I couldn't find it at all. I dont even own monsters of drakkenheim
It's not gonna be perfect, because if you multiclass then the spells still show up, but I don't think I'd recommend homebrewing a whole subclass over this because that'll be super confusing.
So much appreciated.
It was seeming like that's what I had to do, and it wouldn't even let me use another for a base.
I am, interestingly enough, MC'ing into Tempest Cleric.
So I will just do as you said and add them as they become relevant to Sorcerer levels.
I would have made a homebrew copy of that subclass, and added them all in “Additional Specific Spells”.
I tried that route, but it wouldn't let me select from that subclass as an option when building.
Maybe I lack the book.
Yeah, you’d need to own the book to use any of it in homebrew.
That's where I went awry; thank you.
I checked the created homebrew too, but none had the same specific spells.
I think it can be tricky to modify a subclass if you’re totally new to the process, but making a homebrew copy of the subclass is a good idea for sure.
Yeah, I thought along the same lines, but then ran into the pay wall. 😅
Figured that way why anyways.
I like to understand these things. Thanks for the opportunity.

That bug that's preventing some books to update has returned. Other books updated but Monsters of Drakkenheim absolutely refuses.
It's probably some wayward umlauts.
Or some other double-bite characters.
If I were to add all the spells now, would it naturally just work out because I won't have the spell slots, or will that complicate things?
It would sort of work out, but you get spell slots from multiclassing still so it might cause confusion at that point.
how do i create a gunslinger class in the character creator?
i just checked with another player in the campaign and he can see content i can't
what the freak....
Is content sharing enabled? If so it may take a bit to update in the app. I find logging into DND Beyond on the web browser helps.
