hey i was wondering if anyone knew why Warrior of the Elements monk subclass isn't showing up as an option on dndbeyond
Hello guys! I have 2 separate but connected questions
I pre-made 12 unassigned characters for my one-shot game, so my players could choose which one they want to play - but after they assigned that character, played that one-shot, they clicked unassign
These pre-made characters disappeared
Is there any way that I can remove players from my campaign without having to remove my characters?
And if not, is there any way to copy campaigns (even empty ones)?
I don’t want to do that all again by hand👋😅
Do you own the Player's Handbook on D&D Beyond? Warrior of the Elements is not included in the Free Rules
I dont own it, but the owner of the campaign that i am in on dndbeyond does
Are you creating your character within their campaign link? Shared Content can only be used in the campaign that it is being shared through. You have to go to the page for that campaign and click "Create Character" from there, rather than doing it from the characters page
Also, does anyone in that campaign have a master tier subscription? That is required for content sharing to be enabled
I dont wanna be annoying by typing the same stuff over and over but idk how to use the Homebrew creator on dnd beyond so im not sure how to imput stuff can i be pointed to someone who may be able to help
i am making it within the campaign
You're using the 2024 Monk
, not the 2014 one
?
Are you entitlements in sync?
?tag ddb entitlements
Account Entitlements
Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.
The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.
What have you got so far? Where exactly are you stuck?
i am using 2024
Once a character is claimed, it's fully transferred to the other person's account. If the player left the campaign, that character has gone with them. If you want the characters returned, then while the player is in the campaign, you'd need to have them unassign it so you can then claim it yourself.
@uneven lantern Its hard to describe but basically i have a warlock subclass im trying to create and im trying to add extra necrotic damage if a condition is met and other things where some of the abilities trigger only if certain conditions are met and there is no where to put that in the modifications secons and some other small stuff. One other thing is that the class lets me use my dex instead of charisma for Warlock spells so would i put that as the spell casting ability
What kind of condition needs to be met for the necrotic damage?
@uneven lantern "If you hit a creature that is blinded, restrained, or unaware of your presence, you roll an extra 2d6 necrotic damage." thats one of them one of the others is if im in total darkness i also get an additional 1d8 Necrotic damage
I do not think it is possible within D&D Beyond's homebrew tools to have a subclass modify the what ability score the base class uses for all of its spellcasting
so basically that would be a thing i would just remeber or put in the description
we roll physical dice so we do the math on calculators
You could set up separate rolls for those, so that the player can click to roll them as needed.
But the sheet doesn't know what creatures you're hitting or whether you're in total darkness.
so to save myself the headahes should i just forget about modifiers and put everything in the class feature description
I would add an Action to that class feature.
Set the Die Count to 2, the Die Type to d6, the damage type to Necrotic, and click "Display as Attack".
so i would create one of those per my seperat condition
Once for hitting a qualifying creature, and once for being in darkness.
Since those are two separate rolls.
ok
You'll also want to give those Actions an Activation type (probably Special), plus a Snippet and Description.
ok thank you @uneven lantern
As for the spellcasting ability, there should be a Spellcasting Ability option under Basic Information that will do the trick.
Bear in mind that homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to appear on the sheet, too.
ok ik we are trying to play again at like 3 which is why i mentioned just writing everything into the description since we roll physical dice anyway
Since this is a warlock subclass would it automatically appear in pacts or would i need to set that up somehow
You'll need to have Homebrew enabled for that character, and make sure that you're using the same Warlock class for both the homebrew and your character.
A subclass created for a 2024 Warlock
won't work for a 2014 Warlock
and vice versa.
Ok Thanks\
can i change which warlock the homebrew is for or do i need to completly redo it
I'm afraid you'd have to redo it in that case.
ok
Hi i want to work on a game inspired by D&D , and I have a legal question .can i use D&D classes and subclasses and spells like
Fireball and Misty Step in my game without legal issues? i have no idea about copy right over this
No one here can give legal advice. You might would be able to reach out to custom service and maybe they can point you in the right direction

thanks
This is not legal advice, but D&D does have an "open game license" (OGL) for some of its content, meaning it can be free to use, so long as your project falls within certain restriction. You can look up the D&D OGL to see what content is included within its perview, and what types of projects are allowed to use its content
That message i had replied to seemed to indicate that bugs using the character sheet were being raised against the book.
I had been confused why even after more than ten years we still get updates on the 2014 rule book. There’s no errata or set of changes with this anymore.
But if these updates are actually to support the app’s character sheet then it makes sense.
A while ago, particularly when the 2024 rules were new i was getting updates on the 2014 rules i had asked what the changes were but never really found out, so this now makes sense.
Or in other words… i was trying to determine which chapter and which paragraph had changed in the book.
can someone get in a call with me and guide me, I'm trying my best to figure out how homebrew class stuff works but I can't. here's the issue ( This homebrew Subclass does not have the necessary class features with the correct required levels. )
You don't have to publish homebrew to use it - and we really don't recommend publishing anything until you've thoroughly playtested it and are okay ahving your creation be out there with no way to remove it (because other folks may add it to their stuff and we don't want stuff breaking because someone removed their published homebrew).
We also recommend using an existing item to work from so you can see how it was setup and created.
Wondering if any DM here have Humblewood available to share on D&D Beyond. Sadly our DM doesn't as a Co DM trying to hold the game together and the one person who has the book has choosen to leave the campaign and they have been very patient I have messaged other dm's I know and none of them have the Humblewood books.
Soliciting for access to content is not permitted by the Terms of Service. Your best best is to have your already existing D&D campaign group pool resources and have someone buy the book.
I just have a simple question. Is there a way to actually use Great Weapon Master in DnDBeyond? I'm always having to manually calculate the -5 to attack and +10 to damage. Is there a way to get this added into calculations automatically?
I’d add a second copy of that weapon, then click it and open the Customize section in the sidebar.
You can adjust those numbers, change the name, and set the weight to 0.
Ok, I was just checking if there was already an option in the character sheet that I was missing. Seems odd that they wouldn't have a simple toggle to make the adjustments.
Thanks for the suggestion
HI! Super sorry if this has already been covered, but I own the digital copy of Ghosts of Saltmarsh, but when I open the VTT, its not there. I would really like to switch from roll20 to DnD Beyond, but only if the convivence of already having the assets in a VTT is there. Is there anything I Can do to get GoS loaded into the DnDbeyond VTT?
Unfortunately not without buying the book on DnDBeyond. Roll20's books are a different product then DnDBeyond's which are a different then physical books, etc.
It's a lot like getting a game for Playstation - it doesn't get you the same game on Nintendo or Xbox.
?books
There are four ways to access content on D&D Beyond that you may have in your physical books
- Purchase the full digital book from the marketplace
- Purchase a digital/physical bundle from the marketplace
- Join a DnDBeyond campaign with someone who already owns the book where content sharing has been enabled
- Use the homebrew tools to copy the content from your physical book into D&D Beyond. Note: Do not publish any content copied in this way, it is for personal use only
Oh im sorry I think I wrote that in a confusing way. I do have the digital book through DnDBeyond, not roll20. But I can't find it in the DnDBeyond VTT.
Nevermind, it wasn't listed, but when i selected a different Pre-loaded adventure it showed the complete list of what I own.
So you're sorted out then?
"Master Tier subscribers are able to share their content with up to 12 people across 5 campaigns."
https://marketplace.dndbeyond.com/subscribe
I currently have 6 campaigns. And it is saying 12 players ***per ***campaign group? It seems to be worded as "12 players total"
Every campaign can have up to 12 players (plus the DM).
Master Tier subscribers can enable Content Sharing for up to five campaigns.
Remind me again, do deactivated campaigns count?
I’d assume so, but I’m not sure.
Though I think a player who’s had all their character disabled in a campaign won’t qualify for content sharing.
therefore, digital content on D&D Beyond can be shared with 60 players?
If you’ve actually got that many people in your games, sure.
We run two separate sessions per week. One is rotational stories and adventures, having 6 players and me sometimes as the 1 GM. And the other is one singular adventure, having 7 players and me as the 1 GM.
Across the two gaming days, we have 11 people and then me --- totaling 12 overall.
Is that a safe number that doesn't max out or exceed any limit?
Yeah, should work just fine.
thank you
The Dndbeyond app crashes whenever I try to do anything in the editor
Including change level, so it's hard to use for a campaign
Howdy. Anyone noticed that if you choose variant human as species. You don't get the ability score increase options on it if you also chose one of the 2024 origins aka Acolyte?
The backgrounds override the ASIs from species
Ah so you don't get both increases. A shame but understandable in that case
Should I submit a ticket on the website to find out why I didn't get the code for the Gold Dragon mini for Sigil? I saw a faq question on the Sigil's discord that the codes were mailed out 2/26.
I pre-ordered the digital books and physical books.

If u multiclass into monk after lv 1 none of ur the dex based unarmed stuff appears in any capacity
What is it you are specifically looking for because I just quickly set up a Fighter 5 that m/c in to monk for a level and all the Monk stuff is there.
For example since you mentioned Unarmed stuff both my AC (Unarmored Defence) and Unarmed Strikes (Martial Arts) are showing correctly, both in features & traits, and in the main sheet.
One thing you might want to try... after making level up changes, you will want to hit next, next, etc. Until you get a button that says, View Character. If you exit the creator before, the changes are sometimes still in a draft and will not be on the sheet.
which opera setting may block me from rolling the dice (when i set tick in box it autodissapear) and being unable to select subclasses, races, and stuff? I just updated browser and now those options gone
What version of Opera? If you're using Opera GX it does stuff for "performance and energy-saving" reasons that actually breaks functionality on a lot of sites beyond just DnDbeyond. So we don't support that version of Opera.
i'm not too familiar but it's look like Opera One (version: 117.0.5408.53) (x86_64)
Wait what, but I use Opera GX and ddb works perfectly fine?
Then you may have configured things so it does support DnDBeyond's functionality.
But that's good to know.
But officially we only support the browsers listed here: https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/7747209347348-Supported-Browser-and-Mobile-OS-Versions
I have mostly basic settings, nothing out of the ordinary
I would check and make sure your browser is configured to use hardware/GPU acceleration and allow 3rd party cookies. Also make sure to disable any ad blockers, VPNs, or other browser add-ons that may interfere with things.
it was GPU acceleration, all work now🙂
for some reasons it auto turned off after update
Is there a modifier in the DDB homebrew creator that will let me inflict a single point of damage to the user upon use?
(I didn't know this was the proper channel for the request, but I was sent here #homebrew message)
I don’t believe so.
If you know of any official features that work that way, you can make a homebrew copy of it and see how it was set up.
But I’m not aware of any such feature.
theres is a invocation on dndbeyond but i have no clue from what book/adventure it is there any way i can find it?
What invocation?
Primal summoner. I’ve been looking for hours on reddit, youtube discord etc trying to find where its from. But I genuinely cant find anything
There’s no official invocation by that name.
Could there be one in the adventures? Or is that also official? Im kinda new to this
Yeah, I was gonna say. I don't think it is in the third-party content on ddb either, so it must be homebrew
Thats so sad 😭 i had a whole build and character build around it. Welp, thanks anyways guys
Is there anyone who is experienced in making homebrew classes on ddb that could help me with something really quick? DM me if you can please xx
Can still use that invocation if your dm allows
Yeah sorry thats what I meant
its best to ask what you need help with exactly
so that the other people here can just help
I have an odd issue. I disabled feat and multiclass prerequisites in the character builder and also disabled feat prerequisites on the feat management sidebar. The 2024 feats, and possibly the rest, are still locked into prereqs. Any idea why that is? I've tried all combinations of toggling things off and on with no difference
I am putting in a homebrew oracle subclass for the cleric. I made the entire subclass no problem. The issue I am having is the spells. The subclass grants spells on some levels, I made it to match what the homebrew shows. Even assigned the spells to the specific levels it unlocks at. But when I went to test out the subclass in character creation, none of the spells are available to prepare/don't pop up at all. I dont know if I did anything wrong. Pics are in order, last one is when I go to test in creation
I know I can cheat the system by giving my char the necessary prereqs, adding the feat, then reverting the stat/level mods, but still
or
?
Which are you trying to make the sub for/which one are you making it in
Cleric, subclass is a oracle bone mystery they found online
If you made it for 2024 in the builder, it should be fine
im not too sure whats happening ngl, i havent played around with making subs for 2024
Okay, I will maybe try to create it on the 2014 cleric and see if I am still having the problem. Idk if I should be allowing the subclass to pull from other classes, but I think at that point it would give access to all the other classes spells, right?
Have you tried copying an official subclass as a template and comparing to check for differences?
How do I copy an official subclass?
I have a template already that my player found online, I am just trying to put it into ddb. If that makes sense
I will try this and compare them! Thank you!!!
Tis my go-to strat to see why things are not working as intended
Didnt even think to do this, but I def will going forward haha
anyone have solutions for content sharing not working?
I included a copy of my subscription, entitlements, the purchase, my issue(the echo knight not showing up in fighter subclass) and the fact that the content sharing is turned on.
I figured maybe I'm the fool somehow but i'm out of ideas
I’ve passed that on to the devs for review.
Echo Knight is currently only available on the 2014 Fighter class
.
So it won’t show up if you select the 2024 Fighter class
.
that's frustrating, thanks for the info
that was it. any ideas how I can disable nonlegacy?
That’s not currently possible.
If you’re adding it through Manage Feats, any you don’t qualify for will still be grouped at the bottom under Unavailable Feats. If Feat Prerequisites is disabled, though, you’ll see an option to add feats from there anyway.
How i can create a character sorcerer Wild magic for d&d 2014 with d&d beyond?
- Create New Character
- On Class Tab, scroll down past the first Sorcerer and pick the Sorcerer that appears under 2014 Core Rules
- Click Add Class
- Under Sorcerous Origin, pick Wild Magic
You're done! (well, after you finish the rest of character creation. :))
You’ll also need to have purchased the 2014 PHB or have your character assigned to a campaign where that book is shared with you.
Thanks @dapper gazelle , yes i've bought 2014 PHB @uneven lantern 😉
I know it ended up not being the issue here, but I have seen people not benefiting from content sharing before. Some had their characters on "Unclaimed" and claiming them fixed it. For others I deactivated their chars and then reactivated them. Both granted access to content sharing
Is anyone else having the dnd beyond server today dropping maps sessions?
Good to know, I have this issue time to time. Thanks!
Does anyone know the Maintenance Schedule for DDB website?
In #dnd-announcements the expected downtime starts at 3 am Eastern and is expected to be completed by 8 am Eastern.
Thanks.
Checked there but didn't scroll up far enough.
is there a reason why griffon's saddlebag book 2 items wont show up in the search?
There probably is a reason, but it's not been stated anywhere. Could be anything from "partnered content isn't listed in general search" to "the search database hasn't been updated to include it yet" to "search bad"
I run a campaign in DDB as the DM, is there a way to assign the role of DM to one of my players where they could DM a session and I could step in as a player but keep everything in this campaign?
I'm afraid not. As far as the site goes, whoever created the campaign is considered the DM.
Is it possible to change the email i have registered on my dndb account?
Does the character creation tool on DnD Beyond apply carrying capacity rules to character creation?
I'm getting an Internal Server Error (500) whenever trying to create a homebrew copy of a subclass. Thought I'd let you all know.
I would like to know for my table if I have to monitor this or if the tool does it automatically?
There's a checkbox on the Home tab to track encumbrance or not, but I don't think it's enforced at all. Just noted.
So does it still apply the rule if the character goes over?
I don't think it does, mostly because Beyond doesn't do much about dynamic changes to characters (aside from a few toggles that have only recently been implemented with the new rules, like Rage).
There’s three options you can choose from: to use the default rule, the variant rule, or ignore them both.
If you’re using the variant rule, your speed and d20 rolls will be affected if you exceed the specified weight limits.
Update on this, it seems to specifically be a problem for making a copy of a 2024 Barbarian subclass. Creating one from scratch works fine, and copying another class's subclass also works.
I was trying to make my own homebrew Path of the Wild Heart that incorporates the extra options it used to have and it wouldn't let me make the copy.
Yeah, that’s a known issue at the moment.
Out of curiosity, has this been around for a while? I'm kind of surprised I haven't run into it yet, with how many homebrew subclasses I've created for myself so far.
Yeah, I’m not sure exactly how long, but it’s been a while.
So how come when I make a character on Roll20 with 2024 rules they get 3 feats.... but on DDB they only get 1 or 2?
In the 2024 rules a first level character will get a feat from their background. Humans get an extra feat. So that's 1 or 2.
Sorry I forgot to mention they are starting level 5.
So usually they get 1 at lvl 1 and 2nd at lvl 4 and a race or class one right?
Yeah, a lvl 4 should have 2 or 3 feats.
In the 2024 rules, every character gets one to start and another at level four.
If you choose the 2024 human species, then you get one more.
That said, if you multiclass, you'll only get a feat when you hit level 4 in one of your classes.
I'm multi-classing from sorcerer to Illrigger (cause why not!) and have noticed an issue. If you select Lies as your weapon mastery, there is no option to designate a weapon as an Illrigger weapon using Charisma as the attacking stat like there is for a Hexblade Warlocks Pact weapon. I used a workaround to manually change the attack and damage bonuses, but if I switch weapons at LR then this could become cumbersome.
The dnd beyond app icon is gone to an Android icon
How do you delete a character you from the list in my characters in avrae
So I’m building a Mark of Warding Dwarf Druid.
Basically for the sole purpose of getting Armor of Agathys. But the spell is not added to my character sheet. And I can’t find it in known spells either. Alarm, Mage armor and the others were added with no issues. It’s only Armor of agathys that’s not showing….
That species currently adds the 2014 version of the spell. Do you have 2014 Core Rules enabled for that character? Do you own the 2014 PHB, or is your character assigned to a campaign where that book is shared with you?
Ah I don’t have the 2014 core rules enabled. Thanks I’ll try that.
However. I do not own the 2014 version of the PHB. Neither does the dm that is sharing content. So does that mean it won’t work?
Yeah, I'm afraid not.
Quick question! Where is the source Elemental Evil Player's Companion on DnDBeyond? I wanted to purchase/add a spell from it and can't find it anywhere on the website to do so. Thanks!
It's a free source that's integrated without being a sourcebook
That's because it doesn't actually have anything other than the "pure rules"
Interesting! Any thoughts on why spells wouldn't be populating for a character if it's an integrated free source? Need my magical secretssss
So sorry on the ping! Never seen that before but now know!
You probably have Expanded Rules turned off for the character.
This issue should be fixed now if you update the app
Where should I go to submit a ticket for help? Seems like one of my homebrew species has a glitch going on so I can't continue with it at all.

anyone know how to keep track of statuses (like blinded, prone) on Maps?
I pick one of the color rings around a token and assign it a status as I go.
Uninstall & Re-install may do the trick. Sometimes Android just needs a clean copy of something to work again.
Homebrew feats doesn't allow for adding modifiers??
Maybe just a mobile issue, haven't had a chance to check on my laptop.
It’s silly, but try turning your phone sideways.
If that fixes it I'm going to be upset at myself
I'm very upset
Ok thanks
Although that does still feel like something to be addressed
Hello
Me and a friend are trying to create a subclass. We are trying to figure out how to make it so you can choose a skill you are proficient in to make an expertise.
hi, really dumb question here. Im trying to make a "demigod" species and the players will be able to choose a subrace of the demigod species. I wanted to build it similar to how the Half-Elf species catagory is but it doesnt group everything up nicely and its all just spread out randomly iun the character builder. Am I choosing the wrong option?
in "My homebrew creations" its says under the main species that i want these group in that i havent "created any subraces for it" but i have done like 10 of them
the "species group" doesnt even show my homebrew species i made
If Homebrew is not appearing, it's possible that you just haven't activated Homebrew for this specific character.
In the first tab of character creation under the "Home" tab, have you checked the box next to Homebrew?
no homebrew is appearing just fine
i want them to be organized the same way you can choose what kind of elf or half elf you are
Interesting. K. Not sure then. Hopefully someone else knows. Good luck!
for example
Dragonborn has a little dropdown, meanwhile my subraces are just spread out
Also the "species option trait" doesnt seem to save anything
never had any problems doing stuff before tonight lol
By any chance, did you maybe create the species as "Species" instead of "Species Options"?
So i created the Parent Species has Species. and in the homebrew builder it lets you build the options within the system. Maybe ill try it from scratch from your screenshot
Could always try creating one as the Core species, and then one of the Species Options and see if you can pair those two. Assuming that works, you can just propagate the change to the others.
Ya so i created my parent species directly from the human template, just changed a couple small things
When i click the middle button from your screenshot, homebrew stuff doesnt show up so i dont thing i can link it up
I hope it works. I would hate to think they built "species options" and then it wouldn't actually work for homebrewed species.
ya...that would be a real bummer
tryin to make a Percy jackson campaign but i cant even get past the first stage of homebrew...
I'd suggest asking in #homebrew for help with homebrewing something on DDB.
yeah i saw it ty
Try adding a Modifier with…
- Type: Expertise
- Subtype: Choose a Skill
It’s not possible to group homebrew species like that, I’m afraid.
Not sure what I should follow, The attack Beast Strike says its 1d8+2 + wisdom modifier, but on the actual Action, it says 1d8+2 only, just wondering if its just a little mistake or something I missed.
I would make a species trait that has options with one option available to be picked at level one. Have the options be your different sub races.
Kind of like the 2024 Elf and the feature elven heritage
The one on the bottom is correct per the rules. I’ve sent this to the devs for review, though.
hey so i wanted to pick Echo Knight as my subclass for fighter for 2024, but the option isnt available. I do have echo knight available to me, so is the problem that echo knight wasnt added to the 2024 fighter yet?
Just as a note - you’ll note that many subclasses that have been published by our various Partners do not appear for the 2024 classes. We’re working with them to update their content for the new rules, but do not have an ETA for those releases.
Welcome to the Support Thread for Player’s Handbook!
If you find any issues with the content from the sourcebook, or using it on a D&D Beyond character,...
I see, ty!!
I can't seem to select my homebrew origin feat with the Lessons of the First Ones invocation
Did you add the "Origin" feat tag to it?
yup
And under character preferences, the Homebrew source is checked
Hmm yeah, it seems that any place in the character builder that asks you to select an origin feat can't use homebrew ones. I just created a homebrew copy of Tough, and I can't choose it as my bonus feat for a human. I didn't change anything with the feat, just made the copy and saved it.
Has it been about 15mins since you finished making the homebrew?
Well, one way to work around that would be to leave your feat selection blank then add the feat to your character sheet manually through the Manage Feats tab
Hmmm, I was hoping to use the method as a way of adding homebrew invocations, but I guess that will work.
It's kind of annoying though, because now the feature isn't listed with the other warlock invocations on the ddb character sheet
Yeah, homebrew Origin Feats aren't picked up by Human or other features that grant one. It's just a curated list that I assume they will manually update whenever a new Origin Feat comes out. I use Feats to track homebrew Invocations as well, and while they're not listed together, at least they're still on the sheet. Presumably if you added the Feat to your character you'd know to look there for it anyways.
Hi. I made a homebrew feat based off of fey touched but it wasn’t quite what I wanted so I deleted it from my homebrew creations page but it’s still showing up on my character sheet. Is there a way to fix this?
You'll need to delete it from your character as well. Just click the feat on your character sheet, then there should be a delete button at the bottom of the sidebar.
That worked! Thank you a lot. You’re amazing.
I would think that populating the list based on the Origin Tag would be easier than manually maintaining the origin feat list. Otherwise, what's the point of having the Origin tag in the first place?
This would require an overhaul of the homebrewing functionality to allow you to "tag" feats as one type or the other, which hasn't happened.
How do I change in a DDB homebrew feat the ability to cast a spell from "At Will" to using the "Cast" button when I look at it on my spell list? Would it be under the spells reset time? Im trying to replicate a charm that allows me to cast a specific spell once before no longer being able to use it anymore.
It’s not possible to create a homebrew feat that use a spell slot (i.e. ones with the “Cast” button).
The only other option is to give it its own number of uses (which will display a “Use” button).
It worked with Shadow-Touched and Fey-Touched, to be fair.
Yeah, the devs are able to create official feats that do it.
But it’s still not possible to create a homebrew feat that does it.
DNDBeyond has suddenly started giving me this error for all links in Firefox. Pressing and Holding the button causes dots to appear, but never does anything. I tried clearing cache, turning off all extensions, and restarting my PC and browser to no effect. Links in other browsers (and in Firefox incognito mode) still seem to work. Looks like it's tied to my account specifically; I get it on other browsers if I log in. Can anybody help?
(And yes, I am - at least I'm pretty sure - a human.)
Still happening :(
It looks like something either in your browser or internet server provider is triggering network security. Make sure to disable any ad blockers/vpn if you have those. You may need to contact customer support for further assistance if that doesn’t resolve it.
It sounds like you’ve tried the normal troubleshooting steps so I’d reach out to customer support.

Customer support can definitely help here, yes. I’ve had this problem before and I worked with them and they put me in touch with a developer that had me run some tests and made some fixes and addressed it for me.
I was wondering how I could tell if a character is a 2014 or a 2024 character. I ran the Storm wreck isle starter set and all of my players made their characters in D&D beyond but aren’t sure if they selected 2014 or 2024. Is there a way to find that out? They have all the options selected
If you’re using the premade character sheets, they should all be set with 2014 character options.
Recently made a path of the towels tree barbarian. Level 10
Goliath (hill giant archetype)
Farmer background
Somehow my unarmed strike is 15ft
Glaive attack is 20ft
Any idea why or is it just dnd beyond
Level 10: Battering Roots
During your turn, your reach is 10 feet greater with any Melee weapon that has the Heavy or Versatile property
Assuming you meant world tree instead of “towels tree”.
Thank you 😭 😂
I dont know if I should post this here or in #rules but if 2024 is backwards compatible with 2014 why cant I use Aspect of the moon Invocation for my warlock on ddb? (from XGTE)
I assume you meant to say #dnd-rules instead of #rules - but this is a known issue with DDB specifically; you're not misunderstanding the rules. Per the 2024 PHB support thread: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/204813-players-handbook-issues-and-support-thread
Legacy Warlock - Legacy Warlock Invocations aren't supported for the 2024 Warlock. We're working on supporting backward compatibility for Legacy Invocations, but we don't have an ETA.
Welcome to the Support Thread for Player’s Handbook!
If you find any issues with the content from the sourcebook, or using it on a D&D Beyond character,...
thank you so much for the answer 🙂
I think the easiest workaround in the meantime may be to create a (private) homebrew feat that matches the invocation... Though in this case, since Aspect of the Moon just removes the need to sleep, it doesn't really have any mechanical interaction with the sheet - so it'd just be the text of the feature anyway.
Sure it is
Are the links in the digital books going to be updated to link to 2024 core books? I bought Vecna: Eve of Ruin, but all the monster links want me to download the 2014 Monster Manual.
Yeah, ddb could develop a toggle that switches all 2014 MM (and PHB for spells and rules) links to their 2024 versions. It would be quite helpful in selling the backwards compatibility spiel.
Is there a way to configure attribute rolling to do only 3d6 rather then best of 4d6?
No, but you can just use the dice button in the corner to roll whatever you want.
Hey I found a couple bugs with the "Field Medic" feat from Humblewood Tales, I posted them in the forum, but also posting a heads up here in hopes it can be seen and passed along faster.
Also the Armor/Weapon Proficiency bugs for Lord of the Rings book is still broken, after going on 4 months now.
Is there a way to override spell level rules? My DM is permitting me to take a fifth level spell early as I have the spell slots (8 bard/2 warlock/1 sorc), and I’d like to implement it into my character sheet on DNDB
Thanks! I've passed that on to the devs for review.
The LOTR armor has been reported already, too. As a workaround for now, you can manually add proficiency for that armor (e.g. leather corslet) directly to the character sheet.
What's up with the weapon proficiencies, though?
(And for any future bug reports, I'd generally recommend here or #ddb-feedback over the forums.)
I purchased Volo's guide and Mordenkainens a few years ago. I confirmed it in the email (it was a bulk purchase of all the books in 2022). When I click on it it takes me to the table of contents but clicking on a topic just takes me to this screen with no option to read it chapter by chapter. Is this working as intended?
Hello
I am new to d&d
Can someone pls help me and guide?
Like how to play the game and all other stuffs
That's what #learn-to-play and #dnd-newcomers is for (this channel is for getting support for DnDBeyond tools and services)
Help. Sigil is not letting me log in.
Have you checked with the Sigil discord server for help? See #sigil-vtt-archive for the server invite (pinned in the channel).
hey, am i able to change the damage type of a weapon? I'm renaming my dagger to "chakram" (last time I checked, D&D doesn't have chakrams), and in order to simulate the damage of a chakram, i need to change the damage type from piercing to slashing.
I don't want to have to homebrew something for such a small matter.
No - damage dice are set by the template item the weapon is based off of (e.g. a weapon based off a short sword will always have a d6 damage dice and of the damage type). You can either create a homebrew weapon based of a template item with the damage dice/damage type desired or you can just create a custom attack on the front-end of the sheet and set it to have the specified damage dice and damage type needed.
Yeah, I’d just create a custom action. (Go to the Actions tab and click “Manage Custom” in the top-right corner.)
Just re-prodding this one, anyone have thoughts?
(This one, sorry it dropped the mention)
Why not just set up a homebrew feat and have that allow you to cast the spell at whatever specified level?
Yeah, you'll need to use the homebrew system. I wouldn't do a feat, though, since feat spells can't be set to use spell slots.
Oh good point
Making a homebrew copy of your bard subclass or your species and adding the spell there could work, though.
Oh interesting, alright, that makes sense. On it!
Hi, my Game Log is not showing activity for any character, any browser in a d5e2024 campaign that otherwise functions great. Have tried clearing logs, disablign extensions, turning off VPn, etc to no avail. any suggestions?
Do you get the same issue on another device? Do other people in the campaign see those rolls?
What to do if refunded the wrong amount and after 2 days emailing with support I’ve gotten no help. I keep being told to reach out to my bank but the bank is saying it’s a ddb issue.
Hi! I have issue with see my character sheets on Beyond website. but I can see them in the app. I already sent the request on support website but I need help because tonight I have session and I need to check from the website not the app.
I would make sure you are signed into the same account on the web browser that you are using on the app. It is really easy to make another account and not realize it
not, I saved my account info...so it's the same
I already cleand the cookies and caches data...but still I can't see them.
Then you may have to wait till Support reaches out to you. If its the same account
Also make sure to use Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Opera (not GX), or Safari.
And make sure to disable any adblockers, VPNs, or browser extensions that may interfere with DnDBeyond.
I know there's other "Chrome-based" browsers (like Brave) but they may be doing things that prevent normal DnDBeyond functionality.
What happens when you click that yellow exclamation mark under what you have highlighted? The one that says "Non-OK response from GET characters"
No one here can help with refunds, I'm afraid. You'll need to wait for customer support. All tickets are answered in the order they're received, so your exact wait time can vary based on the number of tickets.
I use chrome, as always. I use Beyond last night when I was creating the Characters for tonight.
nothing.
I don't use Edge to much but I had enter from that browser and I can see my character sheets. I don't know why but I have to set everything with edge I guess.
Weird. But that does suggest something in your settings with Chrome may be breaking things.
Does it work in Chrome's Incognito Mode?
If so, that would further suggest that there's a browser setting or an extension that's interfering here.
let me try it
but I don't have so many...any adblock or something
well, thank you guys..I guess
thanks for the things to try all.. all other campaigns have functional game logs with same everything. Just opened a support ticket...
As there's not a specific channel for the maps system I'm posting this here however, if there's a better place for it please forgive me and direct me there.
Can someone who's an expert on the system explain to me what I'm doing wrong? I've sized this map as perfectly centered as I can when uploading it and I've centered both the PC token and the overlay as perfectly as I can. Why is it that when I put the token in the center of the square where the smaller ones converge it isn't accurate with the feet that the overlay is supposed to be but; when I center it with the thicker gridlines outside of the squares it is perfect?
Hello! I'm logging into ddb for the first time since the 2024 rules dropped, and I can't do things I used to be able to do with the resources that I've purchased. For instance, I'm trying to make a Fighter and choose Battle Master as the subclass. I've done this before -- I have saved characters with that subclass. But now the option isn't there.
most likely because youre trying to use the 2024 Fighter
instead of 2014
to get the updated version for the 2024 version, you need the new PHB
Oh! Ok, thanks! So I can still make a 2014 fighter? I didn’t see an option for that in character creation. Or am I forced to purchase a 2024 PHB and make a 2024 fighter?
scroll down a bit in the classes section
And also make sure you have the toggle for the 2014 core rules enabled
Thanks to you both!
I'm not seeing any issue between these two screenshots, can you try explaining the problem a different way?
Both screenshots are of a token on a grid representing a five foot square of the same size as it (four of the tinier squares) but when placed in the center of a single square the overlay doesn’t reflect this. It goes out to only 1.5 squares and not 2 in order to represent 10 feet like it should. When placed out of center of a single square in the other pic that’s when the overlay lines up perfectly and makes everything completely out of place. I’m not sure how or why this is possible.
Hello! i am making a fighter subclass that can cast spells, and i added the spell list feature with spells, has said "yes" to spells on the create subclass portion, and thespells still dont show up for the character actions... Help!
The overlay is extending 1.5 squares from the token in both screenshots, it's the exact same size. There's no misalignment or anything going on
Here are the two screenshots overlayed
Hi, if I were to level up manually, and I manually roll my own dice to increase HP, what’s the best way to add that value to my maximum HP? I swear sometimes options I did it’s not correct and then it resets if I try to do one of the option
In your character settings, you’ll need Hit Point Type set to Manual. Then go to the Class tab and click Manage HP.
I’d recommend making a homebrew copy of Eldritch Knight so you can look inside and see how that one was set up.
You’ll definitely need a class feature called “Spellcasting”, though.
If you’re trying to create an effect that “extends ten feet from you”, then your circle is too small. It’ll need to be 12.5 feet instead to account for the size of the creature itself.
This seems a bit strange is that normal?
The edge of the token (for a Small or Medium creature) is 2.5 feet from its center.
If you’re trying to measure from the edge of the token and not its center, then you need to adjust your size accordingly.
Right now your AOE is being measured as 10 feet from the center of the token, not from the edge.
That’s why when you stick it at the intersection, it fills the expected 10 feet.
I add the value to the rolled HP right? So if I got 22 right now and if I rolled an 8, I have to put 30?
What does the HP modifier and Override HP mean? What’s it for?
Yep!
Those other boxes are typically for temporary changes to your max HP during play.
Like if you’re hit with a Life Drain attack.
The modifier one adjusts your HP by the amount entered, so -10 will subtract 10 from your current max.
The override one sets your max HP to whatever number you enter there. If you put 20, then you have 20.
In the case of a Paladin aura should it be measured from the center or from the edge? Also is there a way to differentiate this when initially drawing it or is that just always how it goes?
So can I also overwrite by inputting my total? If I calculated manually? Like if I just put 30 HP instead?
And I assume the modifier gets reset if I do long rest or whatever? @uneven lantern
Both the modifier and override get reset after a long rest (unless you uncheck the reset box before you take your long rest).
Again, I’d only use those boxes for temporary changes.
Oh
For anything that’s an emanation or says “from you”, I’d measure it from the edge of the token, not the center.
Just to show that both circles are exactly the same time
Thanks so much for the help @uneven lantern !
Yeah, the top image is correct for an effect you want measured from the center.
The bottom image seems wrong because you want it measured from the edge.
But it’s displayed correctly based on how it’s currently set — to measure from the center.
Yeah I knew it was the same size the whole time since I didn’t change the circle at all between shots. What I couldn’t make sense of was why it looked wrong even when I knew it was actually 10ft. I was entirely unaware that you had to include extra for the creature inside with something like this.
Left is a 10ft emination, right is a 10ft radius
I wouldn’t even typically look at the circle’s stated measurements in this case.
I’d just drag it until it covers the closest two squares.
Wow that’s really interesting. Ok I’ll try do this from now on. Thank you both for helping me with this.
Upon loading my character sheet on the website, I notice that the portrait is black with white text saying "character portrait". The actual portrait loads just fine after a split second, but I will say I haven't noticed this happening before. It mainly happens when I haven't accessed the sheet for at least a few hours or so.
(This doesn't happen on the app)
@edgy radish did the magic item require attunement?
nop
its the "glass cannon", idk why its +5
Try manually changing your strength to like a +4 temporarily to see if it’s not adding your strength or the magic bonus
it is homebrew, i think maybe the dm just forgot to apply the +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls
it added to it
Ok, probably just a homebrew issue then! Just let your dm know and they can figure it out
kk
Hi
Is there a section of the character sheet where a player can add gold pieces to their character sheet?
Top right of the Inventory tab.
Cool
Thanks!
Also on DnD Maps, when player is on the map do they have to open the character sheet to see what actions they have or can they see that within the Maps window?
Bumping this
Hello, The longbow is using Str insteed of Dex for The Attack modi
That’s probably just the alt text being displayed before the image loads in. The image probably gets cached for a few hours, so it wouldn’t happen again until the cache expires and the image reloads.
Normal internet stuff. Nothing to worry about.
They’d have to check the sheet itself.
Can you share a link to your character, and make sure the Character Privacy setting is “Public”?
okay i have an odd question theres someone who joined my campaign on dnd beyond i have all the content purchased. and have content sharing on. but theyre not seeing any of that content
is it perhaps a subscription issue? or is there some other bug?
First, be sure to click the big blue "Content Management" button to make sure you haven't accidentally toggled off their access to certain books
does it need to be called spellcasting?
Next, have them clear their browser cache to see if that helps
does subscription status matter?
For them? No. You already have the correct subscription level as evidenced by you having access to the content sharing toggle. Other people don't have to be subscribed to have things shared with them
cache clear worked thank you for your time
Yes, you’ll definitely need a class feature called “Spellcasting”.
Or your character won’t have spell slots.
Why is it I can't get in my dndbeyond account. This happens a couple times a week. I hold down the button to prove I am human but still won't let me to the page to log in. This is frustrating, this needs fixed.
Finally just got in.
Can somebody share a pic of the True Strike settings? My GM has us on the 2014 character sheet even though we're doing 2024 and I want to make sure I'm building it correctly
It's in the free rules so you can view it here on DnDBeyond: https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/2619204-true-strike
I don't need the basic info on the spell, I need to know how it's put into roll20
How to build out the attack
Doesn't Roll20 have the free materials to use? I guess I'm not seeing your problem here. You can look at the spell on DnDBeyond and then translate that into Roll20 or if Roll20 has it, just use that.
My DM is using the 2014 character sheet, and you can't add 2024 spells to a 2014 character sheet
Build a spell that uses the spellcasting ability of the character for the attack and damage rolls of the weapon. At 5th, 11th, and 17th level, have it do extra radiant damage on top of the normal weapon damage. I don't know how specifically to do that in Roll20 - you might get better support on the Roll20 support channels.
Sure
My friend content shared with me and he has all the book right? Why when I try to use character creation, not all of the opinions and subclasses and species, etc not showing up? It's only from the books I purchased. Why is that?
Is the character being made in that campaign?
No, it's for a different one
Then that's why. Character options are only available in the campaign where they are shared
I see, thanks for letting me know!
okay I have tried everything, so I am here 🙂 ... on the website, I have created a campaign and my players have all joined and have claimed their respective characters and it SHOWS that they have. but one of my players cannot see the character in her Character Roster.
You mean she can’t see it here?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters
That screenshot is the page to join a campaign.
If this sixth character is already in the campaign, that could be why it isn’t being shown here.
If she clicks the link above, is it shown there?
hmm okay so I am confused a bit. those characters in that list are all her characters. not the ones in the campaign.
hmm good question, let me couble check with her real fast.
Right. In that screenshot, she’s attempting to join a campaign.
It’s asking there which of those five characters she wants to add to the campaign she’s joining.
Ooooohhh... well now that makes loads of Sense.
So if she’s already joined this campaign with the sixth character, it may be omitted from view there to avoid adding the same character to the same campaign multiple times.
well I am a Kentucky fried Idiot, okay thank you so much. I got to get her to wake up and answer my texts, but will get her to check once she does! thanks Spamandtuna ! 🙂 and have a great day!
I would have her check the My Characters page, or check the My Campaigns page to see if she can access the character there.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-campaigns
Is it possible to get a discount on the core books if I can prove I've already bought the books physically, or is that just not possible?
No. It's been talked about many times on here, but the physical/digital bundle is the only way to get both products with one purchase. Logistically, there are too many problems with trying to verify physical purchases in a way that isn't detrimental to physical sales or way too easy to cheat.
Oh D: That's.. mean
There's not a whole lot they can do about it. They can't verify UPCs since they're not unique, they can't put codes in the books because people will steal them, and they can't seal the books with codes inside because that prevents people from flipping through in the store...and is also not much harder to steal codes out of.
They could add a code to the receipt maybe?
If and when a solution is found in the future, it’s unlikely to work for any past purchases.
For now, purchasing the physical and digital together in the same transaction is the only way to get the discount.
The digital ones also go on sale periodically, like the current Spring Sale:
https://marketplace.dndbeyond.com/SALE_Spring_25
No rulebook discount I see, might wait for one of those xD
Thanks anyway
I am having difficulty -- I managed to get homebrew subclasses and races working fine, but this homebrew background is not showing up at all.
For me, homebrew backgrounds appear right at the bottom so make sure you check there.
Also, make sure homebrew is ticked on the Home tab of that character and that the homebrew background appears on the My Homebrew list.
Hey there, I've been playing dnd with my buddies for about a year now. Just recently after seeing the DND Beyond maps("dlc") came out, I wanted to make my own additions to the DND Beyond 'ecosystem'.
So I wondered if there's an API where I could make a custom battle interface or something, My intention is not to make it the main thing that's going to be looked at but more of a addition.
But I want to import peoples characters and that, so everything is sync to maps(dlc) so fights will be easier for the DM and the players.
So I just wanted to hear if there's a such API or is it a possibility for making it?
This is a character with a homebrewed race already, so Homebrew is definitely checked off on that menu.
And at the bottom, I’m seeing Critical Role backgrounds.
The only other big one I could suggest is waiting 15 minutes (DDB can sometimes be slow reflecting homebrew updates) and picking refresh.
Normally, if all these things are verified, I see just about anything homebrew.
Noted, will keep tabs on it for a bit.
So, uh. Still got nothing.
So, it turns out, I thought I added it to my collection, but it only said that I did. It wasn't actually there.
That problem has been solved.
Maps isn't "dlc" and it already syncs with characters
There's no public API for any of D&D Beyond
Anyone know why one of my players can't choose Eyes of the Runekeeper from their eldritch evocations list for legacy 5e? It is usually available with base PHB 5e SRD and has no prerequisites to take it. It looks like theres a few invocations missing from the list that shouldn't be apart of any partnered content or anything. That being said, I own nearly all of the books so I shouldn't be having a content issue.
I have already worked a makeshift work around with a homebrew feat that allows my player to read all written languages, but seeing that blue exclamation point that has to sit in their character editor as a result is kinda annoying.
Any reasoning for this, or any real fixes?
Nevermind, I scrolled up in the ddb-feedback channel and found my answer.
Kinda dirty to advertise backwards compatibility and then NOT do that, but whatever, I know its nobody here that made that call.
is a known issue, no ETA
Yep. Just 6 months of nothing. I appreciate the help.
Hey, Im attempting to homebrew a race, and I have a racial trait that has options, regardless of what I choose I can see the one I chose(good) along with like 5 entries of one of the other choices (not good). Anyone know why this is and how to fix it?
Guys I need help because I faced a problem in D&D Beyond I was trying to add some homebrew stuff into my collection, but I literally can’t how do I fix it?
I press this button like 20,000 times it’s not working
Does anyone know how to fix this problem Please tell me I’ve been trying to add homebrew stuff for in my collection
Do you have a subscription?
If you mean account in the D&D Beyond, yes but if the subscription is a different thing then no
And if it is, how do I get it?
You need a Hero and Master tier subscription to add homebrew to collection
Start your first month free with the Hero and Master Tiers of D&D Beyond. Receive monthly perks, access homebrew content and create unlimited characters.
Yeap
Is there a mistake in it ? I try to make it work but it doesn't work {"diceNotation":"1d20+8","rollType":"to hit","rollAction":Greataxe"}[/rollable]
You're missing the opening [rollable] tag
It should be
[rollable]+8;{"diceNotation": "1d20+8", "rollType": "to hit", "rollAction": "Greataxe"}[/rollable]
[rollable]+8;{"diceNotation":"1d20+8","rollType":"to hit","rollAction":Greataxe"}[/rollable] to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Thats the full command
this article may help
How to Add Rollable Dice Blocks to Your Homebrew Monsters
The Command worked thx
It’s missing a " before Greataxe".
Hi there I am trying to download a character sheet from DDB and it is coming up blank, not filled in. Can you help me
What app are you using to open the PDF?
idk just the standard one that came with my computer
it opens in the brower, not acrobat or anything like that
That might be the issue, I'd recommend downloading Adobe Reader and using that (as I know it works with my PDFs)
That often happens in Microsoft Edge.
Not all PDF readers support the way D&D Beyond exports the information attached to the PDF reader
Ordered physical and digital 2024 phb moneys gone out and not been bounced or anything got the digital a few days ago and today got an email saying shipment cancelled from shipper this came from fed ex. I've been told to bring it up as a ticket from the link in this channel but am unsure what to select in these options.
I'd select D&D Beyond Help, and then Marketplace Order Issue.
You might also want to double-check your order status here:
https://marketplace.dndbeyond.com/account/orders?refine=dateRange%3D3|years
Ah they go further after yoy click them thanks
I can't even find my order there I know I had to do some other wotc account thing when ordering which was a bit weird.
Did you order from dndstore.wizards.com instead of D&D Beyond itself?
If you live outside the US, that's the likely case.
Maybe I just googled phb 2024 physical digital did something got told wrong country got taken elsewhere then paid and got digital code and physical fed ex info which got cancelled.
Do I need another kind of support then?
Yeah, that sounds like the D&D Store, which is a different site.
Ah I'll go find the support for there then if I can thank you.
I'd start by going here, then selecting My Account (in the top right corner), then Order History.
https://dndstore.wizards.com/
If you do see the order there and still have questions, their customer service can be contacted from here:
https://dnd-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Thanks for the help but I already went through and made a ticket from the customer support tab before reading this. Shall I just wait for a response on that or try the method you have suggested?
If you definitely bought it on dndstore.wizards.com, I'd still recommend contacting their support directly.
Thanks
Anyone know how to fix this? It’s from a homebrew race I’m making and this keeps happening 😦 it only appears once in the editor
How did you set it up?
It’s set so True Dragon has options, Draconic Senses being one of them (but it was renamed before this happened so I’m not sure why the old name is appearing) and Wings of the Dragon is another. Regardless of what you choose, Draconic Senses will always be visible.
Heart of the Dragon is set up where it’s a granted ability with the modifiers of advantage against saving throws, in details is Frightened and Paralysis.
True Dragon is the image on the right?
Was the name for Draconic Senses changed in the last few minutes? It can take a short while before homebrew changes appear on the character sheet.
In these Options, did you check the Is Granted box? You probably want that unchecked.
If i remember correct i already requested about it when PHB24 was released.
But here is the question:
Why does the 2024 classes have access to PHB14 and DMG14 subclasses which are not marked as "legacy" but the PHB14 wizard subclasses are (the only one) marked as "legacy" ?
As i can say they function as they should. If in character creation "Legacy content" is deactivated the wizard subclasses are still choosable when "2014 content" is activated, like its same on the other 2024 classes with 2014 subclasses.
So in my opinion this wizard subclasses are just mistakly marked or all the other 2014 subclasses are not yet marked.
Right not its a bit inconcistant and no logical rule (for me) why it is handled in this way.
Best Regards.
From what I can tell, and the little I know, this looks like a thing with the class list on the app and not the actual character creator
The legacy label can be little inconsistent.
Specifically to those subclasses though, the D&D folks put out something indicating they could still be used as the other main 4 were released.
As most of the rest was removed, they might have seemingly incorrectly applied to those subclasses.
I believe all subclasses from the 2014 Core Rules are intended to be marked as Legacy.
Even when that specific subclass has not been replaced by a newer version.
Simply because the books themselves are considered legacy.
As i showed (in app) that only the 2014 wizard subclasses are marked as legacy within the 2024 classes.
All other 2014 subclasses are not marked as legacy within tve 2024 classes.
To make it consistant mark all or none.
In which case, the issue here would be that it isn't displayed for Oathbreaker et al.
2014 legacy is at 2024 classes nowhere displayed but at the wizard.
So you've said.
im playing a ranger and my dm allowed me to get some extra spells, is there a way to do this? even better if im able to attach it to its own separate spellslots somehow, im completely fine with homebrew
You could use a homebrew feat for that, and set the spells up with their own limited number of uses.
would i need to add that feat instead of another when i would get my next one or could i add it for any level?
You can add a feat at any time (as many as you like) by going to Features & Traits > Manage Feats.
Yeah, True Dragon is on the right, I had been updating and testing it but even now, the next day, it’s still showing as the same as in the picture. True dragon is granted but the options for it aren’t.
I’m not sure, then. I’d recommend making a homebrew copy of an official species with options (like the 2024 Elf). Then you can look inside to see exactly how it was set up and compare it to yours.
I'm trying to make a weapon with charges, but when i set it to cast a spell with 3 charges it casts it with 5, no matter how I set it, it won't change how the charges are consumed, can I have some help with that?
Edit: It just randomly started working as intended so idk what the issue was
Idk how to fix this
Beyond 20 is an third-party extension that isn’t supported by D&D Beyond. You’ll have to ask its creators if you need help with it.
This is an AboveVTT error
with a DDB character sheet
Oh i see the other error was wrong thing
But there is a map and my AboveVTT says no and other players have said they see it
AboveVTT is also a third-party extension that isn’t supported by D&D Beyond.
Damn
Im tryig to homebrew a monster in DDB, and everytime i try to create it, it gives me an internal error message
any possible explanation as to why?
Only time I get that error is when I try to add art in excess of 5mb (it isn't terribly smart with error messages). That might be it? If you're just creating it from another creature as a template, I couldn't say. Might be worth reporting to support as a bug.
hmm ill try without the art
I'll note that the filesize on your computer is not necessarily the file size on the web. Even though the technical limit is 5mb, I frequently get errors on things as low as 4.2mb or so as well.
Also, it adds your small avatar and main image filesizes together when doing the upload. You can get more uploaded if you do them one at a time rather than together.
Still no dice, even without the art
Hrm, nothing else invokes that error message for me when updating homebrew. Might be worth opening a support ticket and describing the issue; it could just be a bug.
gotcha, thanks Dusk!
Anyone know the duration of the Spring Sale?
Ends on March 20 at 9:00 a.m. PT. Source: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1929-turn-over-a-new-leaf-with-the-up-to-25-off-books
there wouldnt happen to be a way to make those a common spellslot (homebrew feat)
I purchased the Grim Hollow Players Pack, but im not seeing any of the subclasses in the character builder? Can see the species, spells and magic items fine.
GHPP has not been updated for the 2024 rules yet. They should still show on 2014 classes. If you want to use them on 2024 classes in the meantime, you can make a homebrew subclass for the 2024 class and copy each feature over from the 2014 version.
I was wondering if it is possible to duplicate another player's sheet as the DM and private that sheet, because I am planning on doing a mirror match.
i know i can export to pdf but i was thinking more like a sheet you can easily edit in dndbeyond
No, only the person who owns the sheet can copy it
You can kind of do it by taking ownership of a character in the campaign and then transferring it back to them after copying. You’d probably have to lie to them about why you’re doing it, though!
my players already know it is happening
i dont know how to change hit, damage and dice for homebrew in dndbeyond.
hey so like, I have alot of character ik that but how do I join a campaign with a specifc character that's not on the list generated on the join page
😅 sucks bc all of the ones showing are my pretty old ones
Like does it show at all or is it grayed out?
but like there's one really new one on there so I'm confused as to how it's structured
and so on
How many characters are in the campaign? I believe there is a limit but idk what it is
I'm not sure i can't see since I didn't join yet but it's giving me the option to join with any of these characters so I doubt it's like full
When you look at your character on your character list does it show its already in a campaign?
no, had to leave the last share campaign thingy I was in bc of things with that campaign going awry and all of my characters are campaignless
This is the character I want to include
and when I control f his name on the join page I get nothing
Depending on the number of characters you have, it's theoretically possible they're not all rendered on the page at once, which could explain why a Ctrl+F would fail.
If that's the case, you may need to scroll down for more characters to load in first.
I did scroll all the way down tho like it has the columns of 2 and then centers back to one at the bottom, not sure why, but my computer has had loading issues lately so I’m down to wait on it and check later
Hope that’s it, just don’t feel like remaking the sheet with all the funky little custom / HB things
But I will if I must 💔
Hello: new to Discord!
I have a campaigning played on DnDBeyond. One of my players is a Wizard/Artificer dual class and at level 4 (level 1 Arty level 3 Wiz) he is attempting to choose Chronurgy (I have purchased and shared the Explorer's guide to Wildemount with the campaign) and neither emhe nor I can add the Chronurgy subclass. Any pointers would be helpful.
That subclass is currently only available for the 2014 Wizard class (
).
Ohhhhhhh
They'll also need Critical Role enabled for that character.
Nice and easy answer
Thank you!
Will there ever be a 2024 Chronurgy subclass for wizards?
This is the only official comment they've shared on the subject:
Just as a note - you’ll note that many subclasses that have been published by our various Partners do not appear for the 2024 classes. We’re working with them to update their content for the new rules, but do not have an ETA for those releases.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/204813-players-handbook-issues-and-support-thread?comment=1
Nice. Thank you!
As a workaround in the meantime, you could potentially make a homebrew copy of the 2014 subclass, then copy everything over to a new 2024 subclass.
It's a little tedious, but pretty easy to do.
No worries! You can create a homebrew subclass here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-subclass
Just select "Chronurgy Magic" as a template to use for the first one. That'll give you an exact copy of the existing subclass, so you can look inside and see how they set it up.
Then create a second one by selecting "Wizard" for the class and clicking "Create From Scratch".
Awesome thank you so much again for the help
Any time!
is this Sigil support channel?
with my party we are trying to enter a game
that was started a week ago
but we cant connect cuz of the error
any tips?
ty
anyone here versed in making DDB supported homebrew in its homebrew creators?
I have questions about spell scaling
specifically - is it possible to have a spell cast 2d8 at level 3, 2d10 at level 4 and 2d12 at level 5 or somesuch type of scaling?
I think so
You’d probably need to set “Higher Level Scaling Type” to “Spell Level”.
And then add “At Higher Levels” info at each of those levels with the expected dice.
Did you have it set that way from the start?
Homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to appear on the sheet.
So if you switched through all the options just now, it probably never had a chance to catch up.
But if it really doesn’t work, then you could also try making a homebrew copy of the 2024 Shillelagh to peek inside and see how that was set up.
Question in the homebrew creator how do I change the skill needed for attack and damage rolls for items
Q: I created a custom Action, how do I get it to show up on the character sheet?
You need to set its Activation Type.
That controls which section it gets added to.
So if I set it to 1 Action, it should show up under Actions.
Yep
I must be doing something else wrong since it's not.
Oh oh there's a "Display as Attack" button
Ok that worked, thank you!!
You do need Display As Attack if you want to be able to roll it.
Otherwise it’ll show just the text description.
Why did D&D beyond suddenly stop allowing PayPal credit, I just bought HELIANA’S GUIDE TO MONSTER HUNTING: PART 1, that just came out.and it worked fine.
I just tried to buy OBOJIMA: TALES FROM THE TALL GRASS and it wouldn’t allow it. I have 6k in credit and can’t use it to buy books.
I looked up support on d&D beyond and it says it can’t support it….. what changed and why? And is this going to be fixed soon?
PayPal is still supported but if you're having issues with the marketplace, contact customer support.
?tag ddb support
D&D Beyond customer support can be contacted at the link below. Requests are answered in the order they're received. Submitting multiple requests for the same issue can result in a delayed response.
http://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
Um isn’t this dDb support?
There's only so much the mods on the discord can do
if you want to reach out directly to the tech team, thats where you wanna go
Yeah Ti has the meat of the matter - we are only community moderators and don't manage/handle customer support, purchasing and sales, etc.
I wrote to them… it just that is was working this month and than suddenly wasn’t… specifically the use of PayPal Credit. Regular PayPal works. I was hoping for understanding the reason why, if there is something I could do to use my credit
In what way is it not working, specifically?
Ah yeah, it does clearly state here that PayPal Credit is unsupported.
Unsupported Payment Methods
At this time, the D&D Beyond Marketplace does not support the following payment methods:
- PayPal Credit: Due to complications observed with pre-orders and long-term payment structures, we currently do not support PayPal Credit as a payment option.
https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/30742052845972-Approved-Payment-Methods-for-DDB-Marketplace
But when that decision was made is not something anyone here can answer.
Oh interesting
yeah it's still not showing
I think there's just a limit but I'm confused as to how it works
because it's new and old characters
and characters who I've made in other campaigns
yeah wait this is so weird I deleted a couple of the really old ones that were on there too and it doesn't look like it's filling in with other characters, just deleting the slots
I am so confused lol
😭 like I just wanna know how the categorization works lol
yeah I think I'mma just a bight the bullet do it with one of the ones available, and then just remake the ones that I actually wanted to include in the campaign
just like, weird
wait okay now that I've picked one I'm getting this
Does this problem only happen to me? Why can't I use the oboji subclass in the One dnd.
It's been stated in the forum post for the book that the book is only compatible with 2014 rules, not 2024 rules (there's no "one D&D")
I don't know if this is the right channel to be asking, but it is related to D&D beyond. But whatever happened with the road map for fully flushed out Homebrew Base classes? I remember reading something about it a good maybe three to four years ago, and I've been using DND beyond for about 5 years now, is there any progress with that road map yet or has that idea just kind of been scrapped a while ago now?
Again, sorry this is not the right channel to ask I don't know if I should have put this in #ddb-feedback or not.
I don’t ever recall there being an official announcement that was in the works.
But anything that old was also from before DDB was bought by WOTC.
Safe to say priorities have changed since then.
That said, there has been 19 classes added to the site over the last year.
I’d hope whatever work they’ve done for those also gets us closer to homebrew classes.
But again, they haven’t said it’s in the works, so I’m not gonna hold my breath.
Yeah no home brew classes as definitely a business decision
Based on what’s been said earlier in DDB’s history, they never designed the site for homebrew.
The homebrew tools we have now were built to facilitate the official content.
Then when people kept asking for the ability to homebrew, they released as much of that toolset as they could.
But since it hadn’t been designed with that in mind, the class system hadn’t been set up in a way that made that technically viable.
Meaning there’d need to be a significant investment to make it so.
So as far as business decisions go, the intent definitely wasn’t just to deprive people.
But again, we’ve seen 19 classes added in the last year.
Compared to only two other additional class added seven years ago.
They’ve clearly been doing work there, and I’d say the odds for homebrew classes are better now than they’ve ever been.
I don’t entirely agree but it’s likely to be more philosophical in the end - and ultimately commercial software is expensive, they need to focus on their own content and they do seem to do that very well.
Ddb has big advantages in some areas and some drawbacks in others. I own a copy of foundry but still use ddb.
Without getting into it too far, I also wish we had a little better insight into what was coming up for a subscription service like DNDB. For instance, I personally hope content sharing functionality not working in the Maps tool isn’t a business decision. I’d like to actually use Maps, but instead I’ve been continuing with Roll20.
Is there a way to create a magic item that can cast (for example) for different spells but each spell can only be cast once and the character sheet will track that?
Like, I know i can make each spell use 1 charge and give the item 4 charges. But i dont want them to use the same spell 4 times.
Is that possible to do this or do I as the DM just need to watch what they're using and lay the rule out that each spell can only be used once?
I've made a homebrew magic item. It is in my Homebrew Creations and Homebrew Collections sections both. I have an existing campaign, and one of my player's character sheets. The sheet has homebrew turned on in the left-most tab of character builder. How do I add my homebrew item to their inventory? It does not come up in character builder or in sheet's manage inventory screen.
Sounds like you’ve got everything set up correctly.
How long ago did you create that item?
No, but you could potentially pair your item with a homebrew feat which would let you do that.
It tried adding it within minutes
Let me try again, it's been quite a while now.
Doing this on breaks between work 😄
can you use [magicitem]x[/magicitem] or [magicitems]x[/magicitems] to link to homebrew items?
In case someone happens by this, waiting a while let me add the homebrew item.
Yep. More info here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/9811-how-to-add-tooltips
D&D Beyond offers the ability to link certain aspects on the forum in mouse-over triggered tooltips, such as magic items, monsters or combat actions - ex...
My homebrew items dont show up using either tag.
How long ago did you create the item?
30 minutes?
I was working so I don't have a great estimate, but it took my item somewhere between 10 minutes and 2 hours to be available.
Like, 2 hours was the next time I tried and it worked
do i have to submit them to the community?
I didn't
hm
It does have to be your campaign if it's not published though
Like the homebrew and the campaign on the same DDB account
I think
Oh! Sorry, I misread the question. It doesn't work for homebrew items.
If the homebrew's just for private use, you could use a regular ol' link, though.
(Doing so will prevent you from publishing it to the global community, though.)
ok
Hello! I just bought the Obojima book (which is awesome), but when I went to make a Dragon Shephard Monk, it was unavailable for the 2024 rules. It's supposed to be backwards compatible, right?
See #ddb-support message
DnDBeyond can't just change copyrighted content - they have to work with the property owner to get it updated to work with the 2024 updates.
So for now, you'll have to use 2014 classes.
Or you can use the homebrew system to make it for the 2024 classes!
Oooh yeah that could work! Just don't publish it (copyright and all that_ but that would still be usable in your personal characters and campaigns.
It'll be a pain to copy and paste everything.
Eh, it’s a little tedious but not hard.
Probably 5-10 minutes of effort in most cases.
The 2024 base classes included language making backwards compatibility possible, even when subclass levels are the same
At level 3, "For the rest of your career, you gain each of your subclass’s features that are of your Monk level or lower."
So you can technically pick up a level 2 subclass feature at level three
Yes, but the creators of the third party books didnt allow DDB to let them do that presumably
Wait what
-# Monks always got their subclasses at level 3 btw
I picked Monk randomly
Wait, does anyone from DDB actually monitor this channel?
Or is it just a bunch of cool homies?
The orange and red names pass the information along to the actual team behind the screens and such
Can probably exploit the bug in the monk where it always uses 2024's martial arts dice, if thats' still there, too.
Red names are staff, orange (like me) are mods
Color coordination is my favorite coordination
I just checked the Obojima server. They said 2024 updates were coming soon.
I am placated
(Thank you)
hey folks, i'm testing out the maps feature in DDB. here are some questions:
#1 - on my character sheet i have a flaming sword that deals +2d6 fire damage, but the roll link on the character sheet will only roll 1d10+STR; how do i get it to roll that +2d6, too?
#2 - in order to add the +2d6 manually, i used a custom roll in the game log, but only i can see it. how do i allow all others to see this roll?
Is there a way to create Folders for our Characters in D&D Beyond ? I have more than 60 PCs : 2014, 2024, my own PCs, my children PCs, my campaign PC's, my school club PCs... It would be very useful if I could sort them out.
That's actually a good idea, but I think that would go to #ddb-feedback
I use campaigns for that purpose. Works fairly well. You might need to create multiple if you have a lot in the same category though.
Is it possible to upload a photo for a homebrew monster token that is classified as Huge? Or are we limited to only being able to create homebrew monsters with custom tokens within the Medium and Large sizes?
You can make homebrew monsters any size from tiny to gargantuan. Any art you upload should be scaled appropriate to the token
Yeah for sure I’ve made many monsters of all those sizes. This is the first time I’ve tried attaching an image to the monster’s token that’s classified as Huge and there doesn’t appear to be an option to do so.
Left is official ancient sapphire dragon, right is my homebrew monster
You don't set the image as huge, you set the monsters size category as huge
I’ve done that as well, along with I have successfully uploaded the image to the homebrewed monster and set the monster size as Huge. Yet when I add the monster onto the battlefield on Maps, I still get the default monster token.
one second, let me check something
It might be that publishing a monster removes its artwork, are you doing this with a published monster?
I think that I figured it out! I just tried uploading the same photo to both the Small and Large photo options through the homebrew creation and that seemed to work.
Appreciate the help.
oooh, I assumed you'd already done that! Sorry, if I hadn't assumed I would've suggested that
glad it's sorted
I don't know of this is the right channel but I'm trying to submit a game with Monodrone bot, but after I finish with the information and click submit nothing happens.
You want #moderator-support
Having an issue on the site, when in the homebrew section I can click to open things like subclasses, monsters etc and open, and save for use.
But for some reason I cannot open species to look/add them currently.
That's a known issue. The devs are looking into it.
How do I get my flaming longsword to roll the extra 2d6 fire damage?
You just roll an additional 2d6 after the fact. It's not built into the weapon's default damage roll if that's what you're asking.
You could create a custom action on the front end of the sheet (Manage Actions button) and add a special 2d6 flame damage action there.
Ty! Is this something that just happened today? I feel like just a few days ago I downloaded something
Yeah, it's only been reported in the last day or two.
Ty 🙂 glad it's not just me lol
Is there any way to cancel a purchase on DND Beyond? I just bought the new Obojima book, but all the content is legacy. How do they sell books advertising them as new when they are legacy content without any warning?
D&D Beyond customer support can be contacted at the link below. Requests are answered in the order they're received. Submitting multiple requests for the same issue can result in a delayed response.
http://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
I created a homebrew monster. Added to a map to test. Edited some tweaks in. Now, the map won't pull the updated stat block. Edit to add monster link if needed: https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/5331815-veylan-duskbane
Changes to homebrew can take a while to propagate across systems. Maps works on it's own system from homebrew, meaning that for it to update, caching on both systems needs to clear and update
It's been stated to take often 30+ minutes for a system cache to clear
for some reason i cant seem to purchase digital books on dnd beyond
everytime i fill my cart and hit the next button nothing seems to happen
Do you mean the "Next: Payment" button?
If so, that would suggest there's a problem with your address.
Ill take a look
Is it because im candanian? my address is correct
I am having problems getting the D&D bot to properly join the server?
It shows on their page as apart of the server but is not showing up within in my server. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or why it is happening?
Even the Province?
I know a number of other Canadians have had issues with the Province not being included.
If you're using a saved address, you may want to click "Update Address" during checkout to verify, or check it in your Saved Addresses.
Canadian here, I can vouch for that, you need to input your province manually
Thanks for the advice, that sorted it
Does this still happen during checkout even after adding the province in Saved Addresses?
havent bought anything in a while (I think my last order was around a month or so?). But it was still an issue then.
My DM wants me to use the legacy version of the Dual Wielder feat. But this doesn't appear in the list of legacy feats. What gives? Lol
Do you have 2014 Core Rules enabled for that character? When adding the feat, are you looking in the 2014 Core Rules section?
Have you purchased the 2014 PHB, or is your character assigned to a campaign where it’s shared with you?
#1. (character sheet issue, not maps). it's been a long standing omission in character sheets to roll extra damage. so you do what you are doing and do a custom roll, or you create a homebrew item - my preferred way is to create a homebrew cantrip, and add that into a homebrew feat. you can add other things to that feat over time to do provide similar workarounds.
#2. in Maps there is a drop-down on the top-right which gives you the option to roll to Self or Everyone.
Yes to all.
Is your character marked as Active?
I haven't done anything to mark it that way - I don't know where that is. But I'm in the create new character process
How many feats do you see listedin your character sheet under 2014 Core Rules? If you see only only a limted few then I'm sure it's an Activate thing. Ask your DM to make you Active in the campaign.
Yep. 'Nsync
I just tested this on my rogue. Deactivated i see only two feats for 2014 (skilled and tough). when I Activate, i get to see a lot more include Dual Wielder.
There are 55 listed, no dual wielder
Any chance you could share a screenshot?
I can try.
Oh! I figured it out! I was dabbling with the human variant features and had dual wielder already selected as the bonus feat there.
Thanks all!
Good you solved so quick. Sparks a question from me, is why i saw a difference when deactivated and all when activated. only interested out of idle curiosity.
Ah. MAYBE it's because i own only a few publications, and my campaign has content sharing with another DM that owns all the old stuff.
But that doesn't make sense. A deactivated character is still part of the campaign.
A deactivated character is not included in Content Sharing, so you wouldn't be able to add any shared character options to that character.
Hello, I am building a character in Beyond. Paladin (Vengeance) with Multiclass into Sorcerer (Aberant Mind). Now i got Problems with the feature Psionic Spells and their replace.
I use 2014er core Rules and expanded rules
I find only a way to replace the regular spells
You would have to make a homebrew version of the subclass with the replaced spells
Yep, it's a known limitation of the system
Is there a way to communicate the Beyond in order to fix it long-term?
This is going to be fun... I don't know anything about creating a complete subclass at the moment. Let's see how far I get.
You can just select the existing subclass as a template and it’ll give you an exact copy.
Ok I've run into another issue: DM wants me to use legacy Dual Wielder feat and use the bonus stat increase of the new feat. So I'm trying to create a homebrew feat that does both. But it looks like I'm unable to add a choice between strength and dexterity with an associated stat increase. Anybody know how to do this?
If it were me I’d just use the old Dual Wielder feat and manually edit the stat you want to increase by 1.
You could make a homebrew copy of the other feat if you want to see exactly how it was set up.
There is merit in doing as RD suggest if you think the DM will change their mind later, or punish you during play. If the DM is effectively saying he wants to let you have a custom version of the feat for keeps, then I would create a copy of the Dual Wielder feat, call it Dual Wielder* and then simply add a Modifier -> Bonus -> Choose Strength or Dexterity. Fixed Value set as 1. (as @uneven lantern says you get to learn how it works).
remember to Add to Collection. a feat can take 20 mins to become visible. good luck.
That feat isn't an option to copy in homebrew.
surely the 2014 version is? cripes ur right.
hold on, i'm just having a play with the 2024 version....
The old version is one of those annoying ones with words that don't change any stats. it says "+1 AC while you are wielding a separate melee weapon in each hand". AFAIK the character sheet code doesn't detect when you have two such weapons equipped or attuned, let alone know if you genuinely have both in hand rather than carrying. So what you "need" is a homebrew magic item (call it dual wield bonus, say) that adds +1 AC when you equip it. make sense?
may be the reason why they changed the feat for 2024.
it would be better if you could persuade your DM to let you have a cloak or armor that permanently gives you the AC bonus.
Nice. Yes it would
Now, is it possible to create a homebrew language just so I don't have to leave the language field blank on character creation?
Yes and no
You can add any language you want directly on the sheet.
But you can’t add one you’d be able to select in that dropdown.
he will be asking about backgrounds soon. I sense a custom one.. LOL
Lol yeah. I completed that already though
Have solve it. Thx for the tipp. It works
Is there a customize option for ability scores like there is for AC?
Yes
An actual customize option? Or just the "other modifier" insufficiency?
You can override them in the builder
This is all I'm seeing.
I'm going to need to note WHY there's a custom increase; like this
how do i make a homebrew item make all incoming damage reduced by one or is that not a modifier thing
There’s no modifier for that.
Modifiers alter what’s displayed on your sheet.
But incoming damage isn’t displayed on your sheet.
You are looking for the box Labeled "Override Score" there currently isn't a way to note why except putting it on the note tab of your character sheet.
You could put feedback in #ddb-feedback that that filed also needs a notes tab like the other override fileds
I've noticed that if i create a homebrew magic item using a magic tattoo as a template, it ends up with (tattoo) after the item type but with no way to remove it
not exactly an issue, but odd
Can't seem to load items when trying to add to my character on the app? Is this a known issue?
I'm trying to use snippet code to bold and italicize some text in my snippets, but it goes away every time I reload. How do I make this permanent?
I don't believe snippets can apply markdown
The only formatting for snippets that I'm aware of are:
- Newline - Enter or Carriage Return, results in a new paragraph.
- Markup - <b>bold</b> and <i>italics</i> (thanks @uneven lantern )
- Snippet Code - this is responsible for showing variables and calculated things like DC and HP in bold
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/25930-using-snippet-codes-in-your-homebrew
How do i access the marketplace in dndb apps? Got some books shared with me from another campaign im in but now i dont see the options to buy it on the marketplace
I know i can buy those on the site but id much prefer to do it through the app cos it allows me to pay in my own currency
When looking at the character sheet, how do I tell, as the DM, how many hit dice they currently have?
In addition, a player has already done a short reset and rolled a hit dice, but did not update their sheet. How do I record the use of the hit dice?
Players are normally the ones running their sheets and reporting back to the DM.
Hit dice would be determined by the class(es) the character has and what total level the character has.
Yes, but they rolled dice instead, without using the sheet, I'm checking the sheet after the fact.
In other words. They rolled a 1d6+2, they got 8. Now they want to record that on the sheet.
You should be able to use HTML for those: <b>bold</b> or <i>italics</i>.
im guessing there is no way to add a homebrewed monster onto a homebrew subclass as a summon?
Not really but you could just add a URL link to the homebrew monster so people could look it up/see it.
There are lots of Dual Wield bonus items already published in homebrew. The one at the top Add Feat Effect: Dual Wielder is probably the best.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/magic-items?filter-type=0&filter-search=dual+wield
If I understand you correctly, as the DM of the campaign, you can view AND edit all the assigned characters, but take care you communicate with your players anything you do their characters sheets. You would normally avoid changing anything unless they ask.
If you click on SHORT REST button you can see the character's Hit Die uses. You can click on however many your player rolled, and without rolling die in the sheet, you click on TAKE SHORT REST to confirm their use. Then simply heal the player in the usual way by using the HEAL button.
As @edgy oriole says, the players would normally do this. Perhaps you can practice on a character sheet of your own, and then explain how to your players. Apologies ifyou already know this.
If players are rolling Hit die in the sheet, then the healing will automatically be applied and they don't need to use the HEAL button.
Hello! I make all of the maps for our DMs (ongoing regular and one-shot DMs). I am one of the PCs. One of our one shot DMs doesn't have a Master tier license - is there any way I can get the maps loaded for him? I have a master tier and so does our regular DM.
You can see your own character's Hit Dice by clicking on the Short Rest button that then opens the sidebar. That's the easiest way I know of to find that, at least. You can modify the Hit Dice from there even without actually clicking the subsequent button to apply changes.
I see god1 beat me to it 😄
Yeah, but I understand @solemn solstice to want to do this for each of his players who already rolled outside of the sheet.
I will never be upset to be told if/when i get things wrong or I misunderstand. I'm a newb here and defer to our gracious moderators.
Nah, your explanation seems to be correct
Only Master Tier subscribers can host a Maps session.
But they may be able to get a free trial subscription if they haven’t done so already.
Is there a handy dandy way to get a help for half cover? Similar to if I put blocks of [spells] [/spells] around a spell?
should be [rule] [/rule]
Thanks. That did it.
Can someone help me with this or am i asking in the wrong place #ddb-support message
what you can do though is click on the "Shared with Me"
there should be an option after that that says "Dismiss" and "Go to Marketplace"
Ohhh i see, thanks 👍
Here you go: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/9811-how-to-add-tooltips
D&D Beyond offers the ability to link certain aspects on the forum in mouse-over triggered tooltips, such as magic items, monsters or combat actions - ex...
Playing a game on maps today - it is not incorporating our initiative rolls when we start combat. How do we make this work..?
Here's what I do, see if you're missing a step:
- Use "T" or the bottom button on the toolbar to add the tokens for the PCs and Monsters to the map.
- Select the tokens to be in this fight. Click on them and select the "+". (The far left button.)
- Step 2 should have added the monsters to the initiative which will appear on the left side.
- Click Auto Initiative. This will roll for both PCs and Monsters. (The default #s are not rolled. They are static (10+Init bonus). We do Step 4 to roll for Monsters.
- As part of Step 4, we have also rolled for the PCs. If those rolls are OK, move to next step. If not, use the up or down button or type in the box the correct initiative (if say they rolled with "in person" dice).
- Only now, click Start Combat.
- During the combat, you can add a monster by repeating from Step 1, except the Auto Initiative will only apply to the new monster which will be listed at the top above the existing turn order that will be unaffected. Once you have rolled Initiative for the new monster, click "Add" and the new combatant will be added to the turn order.
You're done!
When the combat finishes, click the up arrow next to the NEXT button and pick "End Combat". Repeat from Step 1 for the next combat.
Note, you don't have to ever click Start Session as part of this but the process doesn't change whether or not the session has been started. While this may seem irrelevant, it allows you to test if say your game is not currently running.
Very helpful!! Thank you!!
Nah i want to check. And tell them how to do it.
It sounds like you can select the used up hit dice there without actually healing.
Otherwise i guess maybe they have to do a heal then revert the hit points they already applied
Yes, you can mark off used Hit Dice without them being rolled. I believe it only rolls the Hit Dice (and then applies the healing) if you click the button within that sidebar that lists the die roll itself.
What is up, i am trying to create a custom warlock subclass from the ground up called "The Parasite"
This subclass doesnt use reguler spells and uses consitution to make spell hits and a small custom spell list. How do i make a spell that scales with level for warlock? like adds another hit die every other level
Every other level past level 3 i want it to gain 1d8 hit die
I’ve worked out on a practice character that i have to take the short rest, even though we already did it. If we tick the short rest checkboxes instead and then just back out then it resets
So I’ll get them to repeat the short rest and if it does the rolls again in the discord campaign channel I’ll just delete those
I’d recommend making a homebrew copy of an official spell that does that so you can look inside and see how it was set up.
ahhhhh, know any good ones?
But I think you’d need to set a field called Higher Levels Scaling Type to “Spell Scale”.
Add the base damage using a Modifier.
ah thank you ill try that
And then add an At Higher Levels entry that changes that modifier, with Level: 2 and the dice to add.
You could use a spell like Fireball to compare. You’d just set yours for every two levels instead of every one.
ah thanks yeah, then change it so its used like a cantrip for warlock
FWIW, cantrips typically add a die at levels 5, 11, and 17.
And if you did go that route, a spell like Fire Bolt would probably be a better example instead.
But have fun either way.
@uneven lantern THANK YOU this solved my problems and future problems with the rest of the spells
Hello all - I'm preparing for a oneshot in a few days and am enjoying the DnD Beyond character sheet - but I'm not sure how to add only 2014 spells to my sheet, I have Legacy and 2014 rules checked at the beginning of the character create wizard but I'm only seeing 2024 spells for my cleric.
That sounds like you probably selected the 2024 Cleric, then.
If so, you’d need to remove that class and add the other one.
At which point you should then see both 2014 and 2024 spells.
Im trying to make a warlock class feature that gives you the choice of one of three spells to add. how do i do that?
It’d have to be a subclass feature, for starters…
oh nope nevermind figured it out, just had to remake the character im using for testing
ohhh I bet that's it!
EDIT: That was it! Thanks so much
Question, im making a magically conjoured weapon homebrew in DnD beyond. how do i add hit die?
nevermind figured out was was wrong
How do i make it so that my warlock can't take any other spells other than the ones my subclass provides him with?
im making a subclass im calling "The Parasite" where all its abilities are based off twisting and shaping the body, its basically the non magical warlock so i want to make it so when you have The Parasite as your selected subclass you can't take any spells other than ones given to you by class features
like not even eldtrich invocation
for the eldritch invocations, i think there are options that i can imagine as non magical options
also, how do i add a feature that increases the pact slots?
I created a custom background while I had a homebrew species. I'm guessing that because the species had a ability scores I couldn't select for my background. I since changed the species to another homebrew (without abilities) and now my custom background can't select abilities or origin feats (it couldn't do feats before either.)
Actually it looks like even starting a new character on the mobile app, I can't add any feats or abilities.
so, anyway to fix this?
There's three separate questions there. Why do you want to share it with the community?
yes
"yes"?
does there have to be a reason? i want people to look and play it
No, there doesn't have to be a reason, but I guess if you're not going to provide one you'll have to do it the hard way and fix all those problems.
Could you make it less similar? And also add the class features at all the required levels so that when you progress through all the level ups you can get the neccessary features?
I don't generally share my homebrew, I just let my players use them.
crazy thing is its a rogue
so cant be similar to a druid sub, i think its a glitch with the HB maker
Ah, if that's the issue, then yeah, there's enough context to get help, I think.
this is an ongoign issue with homebrew sometimes where they all just default to llooking like Spore Druid for some reason
so im guessing their is no way to fix it
The circle of spores error means you have a field that isn't filled out correctly (not enough text, placeholder text etc)
The second error is because you don't have enough options that correspond to all the subclass levels
huh? i have all subclass levels filled out (3 3rd level, one is a flavour table, 9th, 13th and 17th,) all with flavour, is it cause i dont have the multiclass description filled?
Make sure you go in and re-save the entire subclass. Sometimes the "error checker" doesn't update until you re-save the whole thing.
If I have the game master tier, and a ton of books, is there a limit to how many campaigns I can use and share the books with? Asking for a friend.
You can enable content sharing in up to 5 campaigns and each one can share with up to 12 people in addition to yourself
However, if you join campaigns where other people have enabled content sharing, there's no limit to that
For example, if you have all the books and you have 10 friends each with Master tier subs, you could join each of their 5 possible content sharing campaigns to share across 50 campaigns. They could then invite 11 people to each campaign, allowing you to share with up to 550 people
As an example
Thanks!
Was it always five? i feel like at somepoint it was only three
I cant log into my account on any other devices
might be because i used my email for a school account
@little zinc please don't ping me
Sorry bout that
I believe they upped it to 5 during Covid
It was three before the pandemic.
Ah I see
Random question: on Dndbeyond, is it possible to add options in a homebrewed item?
I don't believe so, or the dragon hoard items that have different effects based on the type of dragon they come from would let you choose instead of applying all the features to you
Shame... Welp, I'll be stuck doing variations of the same weapon I guess!
I built a 2024 Fighter class using Rune Knight subclass with the 2024 Orc species. With the Stone Rune chosen for my character, D&D Beyond reports I have 240 feet of darkvision. It appears to be adding the Orc's 120 feet DV with the 120 feet DV granted by the Stone Rune. I assume this is a bug in D&D Beyond as the wording around DV in Stone Rune section of the Rune Knight doesn't mention the rune extends existing DV (as the Gloomstalker or Goggles of Night descriptions do).
Is this a bug that is on the list of things to be fixed at some point - or is it working as intended, regardless of the existing wording?

Ty
Hey so i made a homebrew species in dnd beyond and its more or less finished. i have a few questions on how to set up a check box thing for the traits on the player character sheet when we play. hopefully that makes sense.
and sorry if this is not the right channel to post this, didnt know where else to.
This is the right channel for that.
The best bet would be to find a species that kinda does what you want then make a homebrew copy of it so that you can look at how it's set up
You’ll have to add an Action to your species trait. Make sure to give it a Reset Type.
Then after you save it, you’ll see a Limited Use section at the bottom.
Thank you i think that's exactly what I needed. is there a page or something that tells you what all of the different things mean or affect. something more in-depth than just the small question mark by the side.
There’s a forum post here that covers some of it:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/76031-demystifying-homebrew-updated-with-pact-hex
08/17/20: This guide has been updated to accommodate the new Additional Spell List section.
09/09/20: This thread and tutorial series has been updated with ...
But like mccluretim96 recommended above, I think the best way to figure it out is just to make homebrew copies of the official stuff.
Then you can look inside and see exactly how they set it up.
Steal its secrets 🤫
haha well thank you and what i did get for now helps a lot much appreciated.
Hi, I am trying to find a brake down for my Senses on my DDB Character sheet, I have Devil sight (120 Darkvision) but some how my Darkvision is now 180 and i cant find what is adding the extra 60ft. I am using a Homebrew feat but nowhere dose it say that it adds to Darkvision.
so ya is there a way to see what makes up the final number? if not can I ask the Devs to make one? 😅
could you post your character sheet perhaps?
1 sec Ill just check its public
I have gone over it about 5 times and i cant find anything that should be adding to the Darkvision
Yeah, not seeing anything that would add to the darkvision
ok I just took the feat off and it fixed the vision, but the feat dose not show anything to do with Darkvision
https://www.dndbeyond.com/feats/1293531-curse-of-lycanthrope-werewolf
its proably that then, they might have coded it in but not actually put it in text or something
seems so, would be very helpful if there was a brake down of this stuff on the sheet tho 😅
Hi, I'm looking at add items from an adventure, phandalin to be exact, but it doesn't show up as a possible source. Can only add stuff from core rules, critical role, minecraft.
do you own the content or part of a campaign that has it shared?
Own it.
have you checked your account entitlements are synced?
Yea. I also downloaded the app on mobile to see if it would make a difference and nothing
What items are you trying to add?
Spider staff and staff of defense
they are both under Legacy
Have that turned on but it doesn't appear when I search.
Do you also have expanded rules on?
(2014) vs
(2024)
