Honestly, knowing everything now I don't know
Are you even reading what I'm saying? đ
Sovis stuck in a drama
yes im asking about alustriel
ironic isnt it?
Roll a d20, on a 1-10 go with Kas, on an 11-20, don't disappoint Alustriel
It's not about Alustriel DYING.
she's functionally biologically immortal from my understanding.
It's about Sovis accepting the deal Kas made and becoming undead, but potentially being shut out of Alustriels life forever.
let the dice decide
i'd just say be normal
Alustriel is 730 right now but I donât think the concern is her dying.
i wanna be in the sun
Well maybe she is currently in a very killable situation right now
i wanna enjoy the breeze
"Normal"... so... Duergar aren't normal? Undead? hmm? pretty reductive of you Sharky
hmmm
whats a duergar
He wants the power NOW to save his people, but he also understands that the way NOW could potentially ruin the relationship he's had with the Silverhands.
Deep Dwarf
That's the dilemma
"Do I save my people now and ruin my relationships. Or do I let more of my people die and save what's left later and keep my relationships?"
if I was him, I would lie down on the floor, curl up into a ball, and then cry
And of course, is that power gonna come with any other sacrifices
what is a deep dwarf described as?
Sometimes there is no right answer
u just said you'd leave it upto a d20
huh
Well I don't wanna have a 50% chance to disappoint my mom figure
make up ur mind lmao
that's my mom
where is dad and siblings/j
guys is my dm getting bored of the campaign he keeps critting and almost killing us
Is Tasha the irresponsible older or younger sister in this situation I wonder?
Talk to them about it. That's very immature and if they have something to say they should just say it.
Tasha comes across as irresponsible to you?
oh that was a joke, we can see his rolls on foundry
I'm bad with social cues
His sister was killed by a Balor and he doesn't know what happened to his biological parents still.
It's not that Alustriel is actually his mother, she stepped in as a maternal individual in his life after he felt he lost everything
She acts like it partially in the game
Someone who deals in Fey and Demons likes to stir the pot you know.
tbh im kinda taking inspiration from frieren for this one
Never watched it lol
20 years is still a buttload of time to make memories with a party
owo
Canât bring back someone who died of old age
Yes, he's near the finite end of his natural lifespan
Not even wish helps
Oh fair point
Damn, what about Alustriel?
what if u just brew a potion
to extend their life
It doesnât help
... What if you kill him first
Those eventually do the opposite effect after more than 1 use
That seems like a plot device
could be an interesting side arc
or a Deus ex Machina
Those potions specify they begin to age you faster if you take it more than once in your life
Per the DMG
She's biologically immortal
what dmg
May I ask how?
As she's the child of Mystra
Dungeon Masterâs Guide
Oh wow
Daughter of a Goddess
Damn that is... a lot to unpack
She's way much of a better individual than her mother is
Alustriel is very compassionate
And her sisters. Alustriel being the very good aligned chosen
Her wiki entry literally says âshe has no enemies except her ex husbandâ
Alustriel has 6 other sisters, one of which is Laerel Silverhand
1d6+6 years it makes you younger and after that it another one will age you that same amount
I know only two Silverhands and thatâs already too many
oh so you just need a bunch of them so you can mix them and use the potion mixing to keep doubling the numerical values
Although I like the two I know if
would need quite a few and some good luck
Oh hell I just remembered I have to deal with the Silverhands in my Bane campaign. Considering Mystra is dead in it :(
They are 40,000gp each and very hard to find
I wonder if Alustriel ever hangs out with Elminster.
i wonder how many years of work each one is for a character
I know she hangs out with Drizzt very often
So much so when Cattie-Brie met her with Drizztâs Panther she noticed a Panther sized cat bed
That said Panther immediately snuggled into
What's the name of the spell that makes an animal sentient
Awaken
is it awakening?
ooh fun, did not know bards could awaken
Well yeah, how else do they sleep
Exactly
the long sleep duh
I knew it was in the druid list but I didn't figure it was a transmutation spell
Would've figured it was enchantment
One of those shaping reality spells that Transmutation gets
Well, you're changing somethings brain to function more like a person
Or giving a plant sentience
A lot of âlaws of physicsâ spells are transmutation interestingly
ya and for plants gives them mobility and whatnot too right?
Like messing with Gravity and Time
Huh
Indeed
sounds very transmutey
Transmutation isn't about just shapechanging but also fundamentally altering how something works
Like how conjuration isn't all about summoning
Magic is almost like a science within the realms
(Well, IS a Science for most)
But, real Chads use their fist
like.... punch a plant until it becomes sapient?
stop punching my salad!
Thrashed salad
"its working! it moved!"
Hey
I'm actually new to DND and hav been trying to find out the basics
I have a character and chose my OC for it
have you already checked out #dnd-newcomers ? might be good to check that out
a big piece of advice i can give you about using an OC as a character, make a variant that's customized to the game you'll be playing. that way your OC will remain undamaged and unaltered, and the variant with jive well with the game world at the table.
Yeah my recommendation is to make a fresh character explicitly for D&D rather than try to adapt an OC first
I would save adapting OCs for when you have a good enough grasp of the character creation rules to be able to represent them accurately in a way that won't be disappointing for you
Especially if its like how most people make their OCs... (stares at my middle school notebooks)
however, you can take great inspirations from the OC. like, the new character can gradually try to grow in power and become similar to the OC
And I've heard people have had a game running for 6 years đ
When I first started I tried to remake my OCs and it was just frustrating and made the game feel limiting, now that I know the rules though I could probably remake any of my OCs in it no problem.
my current campaign i run is on year 3
Ye "Forever groups" are a legend many wish for.
I... man, 6 years. Ive only been running games for 4 years
my point is that players are often much more flexible when the character they play is adapted to the game world instead of trying to shoehorn outside concepts
Probably homebrew games and/or they only play like twice a month. I've ran adventure modules once a week and they usually last about 6 months
My longest running campaign as a DM is currently 7 months in.
There was 1 and a half months off due to player issues and holidays tho
if i could support myself with a full time salary doing it, i'd run multiple games every day.
And gotta account for my sickness cancellations.
and when I search up DND I just see the Freddy Fazbear guy đ
My Monday campaign will probably end this year.
Matthew Lillard? the dude is awesome.
Matthew Lillard is a loveable dude.
But yeah once my monday party is through t2 they're gonna be blazing their way to level 20 im sure
Thinking of quotes from "The Art of War" my mini boss can quote in a fight..
the one about sun tsu using his book money to put all the animals on a boat?
Lmao whatđ
Meet the Soldier from TF2
throughout he's lecturing about Sun Tsu's The Art of War.
The reason I found interest in learning is also since I got DND for Christmas
incorrectly, but still, its worth a view if you want quotes.
nice. what product of it did you get? book? box?
cool. which one?
a netflix subscription if his profile picture can be trusted lol
on the cover for the box I got it says "welcome to the hellfire club"
oh wait nvm, Im legally blind, that looked like that one kid that goes missing in stranger things season 1
And it came with a map kinda
nice. thats a good set. but the yellow character sheets bug my eyes
Yea
It's a good feeling that's for sure
so reading through the books that come with the welcome to the hellfire club box set, it should teach you how to play.
though how it works really depends on the setting
I do like transmutation in Cosmare tbh
i dont have the set, but i understand that and the heroes of the borderlands starter sets are very good at teaching to play.
It is, heros of the borderlands is the best starter kit I ever did see
how does the rule book for it compare to the Essentials Kit or the other 5e starter sets?
Itâs pretty solid; not as good as the Essentials Kit or Lost Mines, but for sure better than Stormwreck
It's not just the rule book but the whole package with player boards and cards for spells equipment backrounds races and loot
so far the Essentials Kit rulebook or the rulebook that came with Hunt for the Thessalhydra are my go to short form rulebooks to hand off to new players. they're free and compact and have pretty much all they need to get going.
but that's for 5e. i was hoping 5.5e would have something similar. although WotC's yet to release any of the 5.5e starter set rulebook pdfs for free yet.
no rules for making a character, however. so nothing to replace the Essentials Kit rulebook.
Who wins the braindead-off?
Wizard spamming Fireball or Warlock spamming Eldritch Blast?
Huh thatâs neat. This server hit 300k people
a wizard rolls 8d6 once per cast to deal damage
the wizard also gets more targets per cast
could someone explain to me?
The wizard has haste in their spells list, but they need atleast 2 hours to get it into their orb? what does that mean
a wizard needs 6 hours to copy Haste into their spellbook if they didnt select it from their free level up spells. also 150 gp
ok but what orb?
there is no orb
what orb
what are you reading that mentions an orb
do you mean spellbook??
They arenât putting it in their casting focus; theyâre memorizing it for later casting through their orb or wand or staff
ok ty
The thing theyre putting it into is their Spellbook yeah
Pondering my Orb
i know wizards have spell books and can copy spells from scrolls (50gp per lv)
How do material requirements for spells work anyway, is the gold automatically subtracted from you whenever you cast a spell whose material requirement costs gold, or do you have to go out and actually find the material
Nope,those are separate
i think you have to find the material however some groups do no components, some do just the price, and some is all components
If it doesnt have a GP cost, you just use a Component Pouch
if it has a cost, you have to ask your DM to either include it as loot, or ask if you can buy it somewhere
If it's a material component with a cost, you need to go buy it
Same if it's consumed
When you clean something with prestidigitation, where does the dirty stuff go? The astral plane?
doesnt say
Itâs magic; it doesnât need an answer
I'd assume it's brushed off
Good to keep in mind, thanks
Being a Wizard is definitely the most expensive class lol
You REALLY need every bit of gold you can get
I know Malaketh spent a fair share of gold on spells
Have to remember this for my wizard player
I plan to do a wizard when I get into a campaign so
Luckily he was built different and used a sword a plenty
I'll have to sell anything I find that not I nor my party can use
Sell your party
the urge to run an in person game is hitting me hard
Me when my urge is to get struck by a car
And it hits me hard /silly
In person so good
speaking of in person games, i gotta get a hit of it
So where do artificers get their powers from
Tinkering with magic
Basic but ig that works too
I have a choice between a magic battleaxe, flail, or warhammer. I dunno what they do. What do you think I should choose? I think the flail because they are cool as avernus.
They are supposed to relate to heroes in the giant's pantheon or someth. The battleaxe is ice, the warhammer is fire, and the flail is storm
Sure go with the flail
I mean.
Masters of invention, Artificers use ingenuity and magic to unlock extraordinary capabilities in objects. They see magic as a complex system waiting to be decoded and then harnessed in their spells and inventions.
Oh okay ig thats kinda cool
i want to so bad as well
I can deliver
Do it
Sigh alright, but I canât post gifs here so Iâll have to improvise
It seems I have accidentally cast fireball on you
Wrong.
I PARRY the fireball Leon Resident Evil: Requiem style.
hnnng... joining a CoS game, fighter or rogue
...
Monk.
I like that answer
Now Iâm wondering what the heck happened in RE requiem
Be a Monk to be a bit of Fighter and Rogue đ§
Pick My homebrew class the Battleblood and pick the vampire subclass đ
He parries Nemesis with a regular ass Axe
And a lot of other things
Metal af.
Also good to hear that Nemesis is back
Oh shit, that might be spoilers actually lol
Ugggggh, i was thinking of a Rune Knight Unarmed fighter đ
Goliath Monk
He also fights ||H.U.N.K||
They are wizards who channel their magic into objects
B-but monk
Idk who that is so I guess itâs not spoilers
Why not duergar
Only the most legendary guy In Resident Evil besides Leon S. Kennedy himself
Yeahhhhhhh!!
Pugilist /jk
Urizt no allow third party
Do more evil than Strahd and go Illrigger /jk
Strength Monk /silly
what monk subclass
2024 or 2014?
Long death /jk
Nah probably want Mercy or Shadow
Long death was fun the one time I played it
Become Strahdâs bane, Blood Hunter /j
2024
Elements is my recommendation then
Heck, become Strahd, Metamorpher /j
-# Hehe another homebrew class of mine
The flavour possibilities are endless
Become Strahdâs Bane, you escaped Gotham city /jk
Break the Bat
Actually Curse of Strahd but everyone is Batman villain knock offs sounds fun
I would be in
sorry, changing my mind again, gonna go rogue
Dibs Harley Quinn
Which subclass?
pertusion astral self
Go phantom rogue
Assassin
that was my first pick for a monk lmao, but wanted to branch out
I despise you.
So you can target the rich dude
Swash is always fun
Thief is a classic
Inquisitor to flex on the DM
Arcane Trickster, Phantom and Soulknife could be fun for a Paranormal feel
Scion of the Three thoooo
I was just about to say Soul knife
WOO do it
I just bought the book so I can finally see what itâs about
I approve
Necro resistance from Myrkul, gonna be the one who wants to take Strahd down
It looks cool, but Iâve never seen it in play
Metal af. You got this
Scion, based
Weâll be your hype folk, weâll pep talk you before you slay him
I dibs being the cheerleader
Iâll bring the popcorn
Excellent
Someone bring a cold towel and drink so we can do that thing that boxers do
Ask Strahd for a time out
I dont know anything about the CoS setting. Is it in FR world or like are they linked? Curious how a Myrkul scion would be able to fight Strahd. probably a better question for #dnd-lore
ill bring the fireworks
Ravenloft is a world that kidnaps people from other universes
oh thats cool!
Is it?! Oh hell, Iâve accidentally ripped off Ravenloft
They even have Darklords from different settings
I have a domain of dread in my setting that does that đ
Itâs not even the vampire one
Like Dragonlance and Eberron are in the setting
Itâs like Dead by Daylightâs entity
that makes sense
Which does mean curse of strahd can be canon to your setting
thats true of every Domain of Dread tho
thats super cool.
I think im gonna draw inspiration from Puss in Boots Death
thats a good inspo to have
Oh, good
goated character
So he needs to throw a cat at you to win?
Gonna use a sickle? Or a flavoured sickle?
well, teh cat needs to learn how to respect their life
Thatâs why we send 2 cats
my dm let me have a kusarigama that is just a sickle and a whip ruleswise, i was pretty excited
scimitar, but definitely looking like a sickle.
Barovia is its own sort of setting, its part of the wider Ravenloft setting. Ravenloft is a horror-themed setting comprised of a bunch of semi-connected Domains of Dread which all feature a Darklord. Barovia is the Domain of Dread that features Strahd as its Darklord.
Ravenloft can be found somewhere in the Shadowfell, another Plane of Existence. The Forgotten Realms could connect to Ravenloft/Barovia this way, as FR has the Shadowfell.
Or you could be a monk and have a d6 sickle/hj
shhhh
Being a hobgoblin and taking the Harper background so i can do some Help shenanigans
Donât use armor like him
I like the idea of that. was eventully gonna learn the setting to run CoS. It just makes me wanna run it more knowing this
Oh god, the Harper Origin's Distracting Melody fits so well if I whistle while using Help
I wish Harperâs feat was just help action as a bonus action proficiency times a day
y'all know if there's a spell that is fireball but with the thunder or acid element?
instead of ranged Help?
Vitriolic sphere!!
Iâd say with the 30ft range still preferably but Iâd take 15
thank
Youâre welcome :>
Hey does anyone one know how I put out a list as a dm to find players It wonât let me
#find-a-game has the instructions. You use the bot to make the post
put a command into any chat, #find-a-game has the command (i just dont remember)
Shatter
anyone feel like the old default kua toa artwork looks like they should be giving a thumbs up?
like it has a sort " its wednesday my dudes " vibe to its expression
Hey everyone
Made today and posting links... suspicious đ¤
How long have you all been playing D&D?
4-5 years
3 months
read and familiarize yourself with the rules
but remember DM has final say
No DND is also better than Bad DND
Alright can you please guide me
Check out #dnd-newcomers
Ok thankyou
understand you cant do everything, failure its okey (in dices and even choices) and finally try to have fun with your team.
Dont overtake their spotlight moments and understand them. At the end everybody its trying to have fun
Oh and start with martials, those are easy to understand and familiarize
And today had a session that i was craving so much.
Had exploring the town, rp moments and finally with the whole team a pie eating competition
We went crazy there and tried to win with all we had. I used my action surge for trying to end up a pie and even used my lucky points.
My arti used his stuff and even my paladin tried to use his other features. It was funny
im playing a Eberron game, we had our first session last friday and i wanna play more đ
I'm Dming it! its so cool
been DMing an Eberron game every saturday. Party is taking a trip on a Lightning Rail to Metrol
still at the First Tower though
yea im playing a combat medic no magic, specing into medicine im having a blast
our lightning rail crashed, we have 11 survivors and are on our way to a village about 2 days away
and im the only medic
lost half my supplies in the crash (i asked the DM to roll)
i have my hands pretty full
im so excited for session 2
Dragged me upstairs smh
all the better to drain your vitality with
where can i talk about my character with yall?
Dolguant life drain is no joke
They didn't even drain Sentry once smh
He's just goated
Can simulacrum cast simulacrum
no, your CON mod was too high life force just tasted bad
Not in 2024 rules
A caster can't have more than one simulacrum because the other will be destroyed
Simulacrums specifically cannot cast the simulacrum spell
But if simulacrum cast wish? Which produced the effect would that work since its technically casting wish not simulacrum
No, you're still casting simulacrum through wish.
Nope
Damn it
you are only replicating the effect, not casting the spell tbf
You arent casting Simulacrum.
legally the wish cheat works but most DMs will in real games block it
It's not supposed to work is the thing
Yeah, but it STILL follows the simulacrum spell rules
Yea which says you cant cast simulacrum again for another. which you arent doing. I'm not saying its intended, merely how it works as written
But also, literally even then, use wish on ANYTHING else smh.
Yeah, personally I'd allow it but you get wish sickness, guaranteed to lose wish and the simulacrum doesn't get it.
Mainly to make a point
like i said, works as written but most dms will apply reasonablr discretion
I swear, folks be like
"With wish I can do anything... I'm gonna summon another simulacrum!"
I like how AL handles it
Me using Wish to bypass component costs on more entertaining spells
Simulacrums can Wish but both the caster and simulacrum get wish sickness
Me wishing to cast Contingency on myself to cast counterspell when I'm targeted by any spell /silly
Just had a wonderful time in barova
Personally I like to use your simulacrum can't cast spells higher than the spell slot you casted it with
In the death house
Me trying to cast a healing spell on you and the party and now everyone is dying still
That's the point
"I'll die anyway!!!!"
revivifying you after to beat you up
Isnt simulacrum suppose to be a stupid powerful spell
it cost like 1500 gold pieces and takes like 12 hours to cast
actually, iirc Manshoon did simulacrum chaining and they all tried to murder his ass
Yes
dispell magic
it takes 1k gold and a 12 hour cast. using wish bypasses those
was I ghost pinged here?
or anti magic field
its also metagaming to know a simulacrum is a simulacrum
I think it's uncertain wether the real manshoon is even still alive
Hello
Or, at least, the original body
he very well could have been simulacrum replaced like Acererak was
I was planning to make simulacrum factory so I can have 50 of them
The duplicate is a creature, partially real and formed from ice or snow????
How is that meta gaming
Yeah, how the hell DID ...
I was gonna ask how Acererak did that..
But he's Acererak.
formed from ice and snow but visually looks the part
Cause he wanted to
Acererak is the only non humanoid that can cast sumulacrum
you dont know its made of snow until it breaks
Sazz Tam and Halaster have simulacrums all the time being mistaken for them
It's literally because he's Acererak lmao
Pretty sure thats impossible
Also disguise self is broken
My answer would be the caster bbeg puts AMF fields in his dungeon cause he scryed you simulacrum chaining. /hj
Acererak has a permit. It says he does what he wants
just not tax evasion
Szass I mean
DRS Still wants him for evading his taxes in his estate
Acererak is the chadliest person unalive.
Yeah he kills Drow Warlocks
wasnt he like the second person ever to become a lich
Man.. c'mon man..
He canonically has simulacrums. Him not being a humanoid is irrelevant. Magic Aura can alter targetting but also Tam controls the Thay weave anchor. he can just break magic rules the way Halaster does
wait what
Tokii plays a Drow Warlock and is in Acererakâs dungeon right now
magic aura doesnt work like that in 2014
doesnt matter anymore. but the weave anchor statement is always true
Too bad not in 2014 anymore
NPCs can break the fundamental rules of the game btw :]
The statblock that Szass uses is
NPCs do whatever they want
And it hasnt been updated
Halaster and Szass Tam can legally bypsass magic rules due to their conditions
Mizzet can concentrate on two spells.
No other mortal being alive can do that
Nor will it ever be since it was for one adventur for AL
also the stat block not being updated means the old one is merely treated as the current stat block
Szass can
Demogorgon
Wait mortal
He's not alive nor mortal.
Again, he's not Mortal.
I dont think the demogorogon is a mortal
if you kill him in the abyss he is
Mizzet IS a mortal. Flatly
Erm chronurgy wizards can't really
Even if you kill demogorgon in the abyss he just gets replaced by the gaping maw (spoiler thats him)
Still genuinely disapointed they didnt have Niv Mizzet learn about Planeswalkers and literally create an artificial Spark for himself
it would have been hype
They're not concentrating on both spells :p
Yeah that's why I said can't :3
The demogorgon will just come back
Congratulations folks, you tried to misprove me but were all incorrect due to the wording of my statement, silence. /joking /silly /no hard feelings
eating Tokii alive for dinner
Disprove
would
I thought Tokii died for a second
Soon
No.
Misprove.
Because I said so.
(I know it's disprove, I'm just Aura farming)
As someone who tried to drain tokii with a dolguant, hes not very tasty
Dolguant?
A lot of things want to drain me for some reason.
It scares me.
You're a wet sopping lad with NO aura
Mishappen hobgoblin warped by abberations in Eberron
A Kraken ate Tokii last session
You guys have the strangest games
That's not what Bahamut said when I made him my manwife
you guys have the strangest games
You did what now
It's because I'm in them
Bahamut with his peak Deception check on Tokii
I wish I could watch without being judged
The author's poorly disguised uh
What godless nonsense have I stumbled into
Wdym theres plenty of gods
Not in Eberron
What?
I have the favor of plenty of deities
Tbh that wasn't the goal, it was in the module and I went with it.
I has nothing to do with my- /jk
Im I even in Ti's server anymore
The kraken isnt in my server
Yes.
is the kraken in the room with us now?
me
I'm the Kraken
I think I was suppose to be in one of the games but I left for reasons
i dont rember why
I'm still reeling that I said
Mizzet is the only MORTAL that can concentrate on two spells and got two immortal creatures thrown at me as rebuke đ
Evil Cackling
He's teh GOAT of Ravnica for a reason
how Nicol Bolas killed him, i have no idea. Plot Knife i guess
You joked about Mizzet and Malaketh meeting one time because they have 30 Intelligence
I never thought of Mizzet being morrtal
I should make a CR 30 Living Guildpact version of Niv Mizzet
My buddy Steve can
i should make the new greaser concentrate on grease twice
Heâs dead
Greater grease
the next one
It wonât be as funny the second time
Mortal enough to be killed once and die forever ig
Hes alive again
Oh?
He serves as the Guildpact as of right now
The greaser is quite literally a fine paste
theres more
how many times have you put a greaser on the map
theres that many greasers, and more
Other goblins can cast grease
This is your fault, Knemesis.
But thereâs only one greaser
Can I turn Tokii into a fiend with magic aura and then trap him in my book
Nah.
Why not
I'm immune to magical effects
What if I said it wasnt magical
I'm immune to effects
So thatâs what kind of a fiend you are
Aint no way
speaking of fiends.
My paladin is downed from a Lamia's Corrupting Strike
A what now
lamia
Snake people>
oh interesting
I thought those were naga?
Lamia can also be snake people
Coolio
Nagas are just giant snake monsters and typically aren't humanoid.
yeah, Lamia are typically snake people
You're thinking Gorgons.
in DnD, theyre lion centaur fiends
Huh cool
Marriliths are the Top half ladies and bottom half snakes I believe
Yeah but they changed the art in 2024
how big we are talking?
big like a bull or big like an elephant?
Yeah now they can be a dude for their top half
https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/5195117-marilith they look more ston elike and less human like
Large creature so smaller than an elephant
okey, so isnt that "big and dangerous" just dangerous
I honestly forget just how big elephants are
and easier to flank//set on AOE spells
So likely bigger than a horse but smaller than an Elephant
I died
I think the max size for large is 16ft dont qutoe me on that
Horses are Large so they are 8ft tall/long?
The natural order
thats tall not wide
Horses are 8ft wide?
Also horses are just big
i remember seeing horses used in wars, giant ones and thick, wish to get one like that in DnD
squares are 5 feet normally
Probably a warhorse
horses are 10 x 10
Shire horses
Wrong chat lol
big ones that if you put an armor on it, easily would bring Elden Ring PTSD back
Large creatures are between 8 and 16 ft tall.
im fairly sure horses get to 8 ft snout to tail
relatable
I wonder how a playable giant race would work out
Battlesmith imo
I still think its weird the most non human like player options we got are centaur and thri kreen
Plasmoid moment
That would explain why I like thri kreen so much lol
surprisingly, only a 1 point difference between them due to how the stats are spread
I forget that the oozes exist
Minotaurs
Just be tough đި
Health isn't a big deal ngl
Still decently human shaped
Locatha or what ever it's name is
Have you seen a minotaur?
So are thrikreen
Irl? Can't say I have
and half a centaur
Thri kreen are monstrosities and have 4 arms instead the normal two
Plasmoid be like
its like monster tags, if something references goblinoid, it interacts with it
I dont think ive ever seen an effect that targets goblins
Goblin Blast does
no, its usually magic items i think
Goblin blast
I think Barghest have an ability for Goblinoids
if they eat one they get stronger i think
Ah no itâs a Humanoid or Fey
so goblin is just there to be there
I mainly remember them as Goblin hunting demons
They are
I think they just expanded the creature type to also hit other PCs
Bogey when Barghest
im talking about this btw
. You are also considered a goblinoid for any prerequisite or effect that requires you to be a goblinoid.
What effects!
yeah, thats gonna be for magic items largely
Iâm making a binder for my dnd character does anyone have suggestions on what Iâd should have
There are NONE
Human Fighter
not a single magic item that mentions goblinoids
a binder? what is that?
there is, but its third party
I dont count 3rd party but tell me
Exploring Eberron, its a goblinoid artifact
What
Mind Goblins.
Itâs a container for papers used in schools
400 baboons
smite
yeah but what would be in this context
The 3 holes in notebook paper are for binders
Something to store character sheets in
im lost ngl
Im found
Hi found đ
Hi Knome
Campaign notes is another useful thing, little summaries of the NPCs you met too can help
Descriptions of complicated features would be good to have
a horn that buffs goblinoids, and also hurts enemy goblinoids
heading into a Nat 40 level encounter with my tyrrany of dragons group tonight, had a 2 week hiatus because i took a vacation and now they are so ready
im still praying for them
What are they up against?
Thank you this is my first dnd game so I wasnât sure what Iâd need
Get names of quest givers and what they promise as a reward
adullt white dragon plus vampire nightbringer plus archmage plus 10 cultist fanatics
The level 6 group of 4 I'm in managed to handle an Adult White Dragon without casualties
It was close though lol
Needless to say, the group was surprised to be alive
I'm the only Frontliner in the group and I'm surprised I'm alive more than anything lol
... so many ways to paralyze, you fiend
Our Bard actually ended up killing it with Spirit Gaurdians (lore bard)
Vampire nightbringers are awesome
Ran one a couple weeks back, utter freak of a vampire
this is a level 9 group of 5 and this is 5360 EXP worth of monsters, per player, just over double hard, so the perfect nat 40 encounter
Yeah I used a modified Vampire Nightbringer to use as a Mannanagal.
i cant believe i missed that session still
I can't believe you left Sovis to fend for himself smh.
Me trying to figure out when I can fit them in next, then you leave the campaign after that
not my fault life was kicking me in the [Redacted] in that time
Strahd using a group of Mannanagals was an encounter that is for sure
can i report him for cultural appropriation
He casted Counterspell
Someone at WoTC thought a Fire Elemental and Lamia is a valid boss fight against level 3s in a cramped tower
Crazy boss fight
Sam let me control the lamia :D
I still shudder at the Old Bonegrinder map in Curse of Strahd. That thing can fit like 4 people in it MAX
were at a 3/4 TPK
oh god the Fire Elemental still has 100 ft to run
caught up to the rogue, might be a tpk
TPK
I'm curious what adventure you are playing
Sam's running a homebrew calimshan campaign mostly using the FR book adventures
Does anyone use dungeondraft here? I want to erase the window but it just doesn't want to let me do that,
Oh nooo! đ I'm seeing the Hall of the Dead fill up as I eat breakfast.
#dnd-maps might know
rip my genies paladin đ
đ
Who else was slain by the Elemental/Lamia combo?
RIP Team Ti-Moth
In the homebrew game Iâm playing I got 6 players at lv 11. I havenât had much loot sprinkled through my dungeon so Iâm giving each player an item that can help them.
I need an item for the open hand monk and the guardian paladin.
Any ideas. I donât want the items to be just weapons. I also donât want items that canât be somewhat useful during combat.
One item for my warlock removes his sight so he canât see colors or shapes but he now has blindsight and slight tremor sense. Useful in combat and plenty strong but not just damage.
Eldritch claw tattoo for the monk(?)
its something simple but okey and giga work well for that class
Dragonhide Belt is also good for monks.
and for the paladin Rod of Retribution
Funny enough Iâve already given him that item. At the start of the campaign when they were lv 9 I let them buy stuff and since he wasnât buying armor or weapons he asked for that
it kinda go with the "guardian" vibes
With a lineup like that I can see it happening
For monks there's so many:
- Dragonhide belt
- Eldritch Claw Tattoo
- Wraps of unarmed Power
- Bracers of Defence
All of these go great
......okey that upset me
400 baboons towards you or smt
rolled stats dont help either
Ew, rolled stats.
Winged boots or smt like that? for mobility
Paladins, a really fun one I've wanted to give a paladin is the Devotee's Censer from TCoE
Necklace of Prayer Beads is a more spellcastery item which is always cool
im lucky for this one, i think i got the best set:
- 14, 14, 12, 12, 11, 7
7 in con for a Wizard
nah, 7 went straight to STR
Why not 6 with it?
decided to copy Koa though :3 Not a small boy (hobgoblin), but WIS based beast master :3
As your next character?
Yay! Wisdom Beast Master! Lots of fun!
yeap!
I did some really fun stuff with Hobgoblin and the Harper Agent Feats.
Ive got an idea. A command stick. Once a day you can smack someone with the stick and it auto casts command on them with any word you choose. Their ac is what you need for it to hit. No wisdom save. I love command but itâs always hard to use because most creatures you come across have good wisdom saves. I think thematically this would be fun for the paladin
I was tempted to go with it, but the stat increases arent what i need
But i do have some play with Emerald Enclave
put command stick in a quaterstaff, now you have a command spear
Enspelled Staff does the trick
The Origin Feat is just straight up you can talk to animals all the time forever, basically.
Yo I have a campaign idea but I need 2 people (dms)
Again. #find-a-game
It didn't work
did you read the instructions?
Wrong channel
2025 find familiar.
I just realised I can use a spell slot to cast it for 1 hour.
Or ritual which takes 1 hour and 10 minutes.
So with the spell slot to use find familiar from the Magic innate is kind of useless? unless I want to get breakfast 10mins earlier?
Yeah takes a lot of time
why don't goats have a climb speed
well
they vanish when reduced to 0hp
is it to prevent find familiar shenanigans
Yep, just wondering what to do with that spell slot in find familiar.
are there any Strength based Archer classes i can multiclass with rune knight
After the incident changes had to be made /jk
Archery isn't strength based unfortunately - your ranged attacks with bows use your dex modifier
Nope
doing shenanigans with ballistas
Ballistae don't use your strength modifier either
really?
they have a flat attack roll bonus
well alright
I believe +6
And they aren't weapons you can normally use
they require three actions to fire and are generally stationary weapons
hence shenanigans
Goliath (little giant)-size counts as one size larger for carry purposes
Rune knight Med- Large
the closest you'll get as an actual weapon is a heavy crossbow which is dex based
it's not about size, it's about the physical function of them
they require three actions to fire
i know, i worked something out with my dm as he thought it was funny lol
What I would suggest is you use a heavy crossbow mechanically, and you just flavour it as your character carrying a ballista
but alr. no multiclass
A level 3 party with 8 players on it definitely can handle 6 goblin, 3 hobgoblin, and 1 shaman goblin right?
Add an Adult Green Dragon too /jk

A more honest answer is yes that group can handle that
Is there any way of getting value out of Skulker feat without being a rogue? All the hiding benefits seem pretty cool but having to use my entire action on it makes it feel like a waste
depend, you are any class that could use any sneak? aka ranger, monk with stealth or some caster with invisibility?
I was thinking of trying to do it as a support (mainly buff oriented) wizard
so kinda cast haste and hide? throw some fire bolt from time to time
Yeah its just that casting any verbal (most) spells would reveal me wouldnt it?
If youâre a goblin I believe you can hide as a bonus action
You can cast a spell and then hide
or cast the spell in a hidden position
A group of 8 guys can handle vastly more then a typial party of like, four.
Action Economy goes brrrrr
such big groups are... problematic to work with
too much classes, too much players
like with just 2 fighters you have already 2 actions surges so 2 players can play 4 turns in one round
Fi you only can choose one offensive cantrip which one that youll use, firebolt or toll the dead
firebolt, a classic
I like attack roll cantrips more than saving throw cantrips for certain.
UNLESS you're an Evocation Wizard, saving throw cantrips just... do nothing if the enemy succeeds
But, saving throw cantrips also have pretty nice effects.
You just gotta guess what an enemy is BAD at.
Mind Sliver for example, is pretty nice because its an INT save and is a typical weakness for a good amount of monsters
it also does psychic damage which isn't resisted a lot typically
Yeah i love that cantrip, its a nice one to setup your next attack
Saving throw cantrips are very fun, but sorcerous burst my beloved đĽ°
I think the WORST cantrip is Word of Radiance
Its a 5 foot Emanation from you, which, don't get me wrong, is pretty damn decent.
But its a CON save and thats a pretty good save for a good majority of monsters that want to be close to you
Its a decent low level aoe if you're surrounded by goblins or something but I'd just learn something else when I level up
And God said. "Save or Suck."
literally
I kinda wish Word of Radiance was a Wisdom save or something
But, I think that'd unintentionally make it TOO good?
And it helps set up for other effects.
the risk is being surronded with a caster so...
I mean, its a Cleric only Cantrip
unless you take the blessed warrior fighting style then you can have it on your pally
Clerics and Melee are just fine, really
Ehh, it'd encourage the cleric to charge and be surrounded by enemies đ
Spirit Guardians says hi.
cant have it too with magic initiate?
Looks at Spirit Gaurdians
I kinda do agree tho, especially bc i feel like clerics have pretty bad damage cantrips
You can, but its not worth taking lol
Well that atleast has the killing power and range to compensate đ
not yet
That is true!
Maybe something releases that could make it worth taking Word of Radiance at some point
If I already have SG up and I have one or two other enemies that look almost dead, Word of Radiance might be worth more than a Disengage Action.
If the range was maybe 10 feet but the damage was 1d4 maybe?
That may be true, but it also encourages dangerous positioning in a sense
you want to be close to use it afterall
It would be yeah actually đ¤
or you want to be in tight quarters
Spirit Guardian Holy Lawnmower does so much work against hordes of weaker creatures.
Spirit guardian lawn mowing carried me through act 2 of BG3 đ
Even better if you have a mount, so you don't need to worry about Disengage.
yeah that is the problem
or better said, a point of view
i would say "you want to use it when enemies surround you"
Back to this, while it WOULD be a good argument for any other caster, Clerics that want to go melee can have Heavy Armor and therefore acsess to some of the best armor in the game
because with some common sense you wont be gifting yourself
if you are going that kind of cleric, you wont use word of radiance
that is the problem
Yes, the problem isn't it being a close range cantrip though.
its being a bad cantrip.
Targets one of the most commonly strongest enemy saves.
low damage, make it a 1d8 and maybe would be seen different, 1d12 for having a save too
i like to think things like
It have a save? so dont be scared of putting high damages on it
It can be dodged by AC? normal kinds of damage
Non dodgeable, not so big damage
So it's not great for single target tough enemies, it's for multiple weaker enemies that are surrounding you.
If you're surrounded by stirges it can be useful.
Its a spell that has warrants, but you also don't want to typically be in a situation where you want to use it
and that is another thing, its a save for dodge all damage, not even just half it
though, potentially doing damage is better than just repositioning (kind of)
Clerics have .. three damaging cantrips to their name.
at highest is 4d6 + any extra you want to add X 4, so if you had the biggest luck trip in your life, you can do 128 radiant damage around you
All of which are saves đ
Word of Radiance is literally the only area cantrip on their list.
My Cleric has Wizard magic intitate from the sage background (he's a knowledge cleric)
So he has shocking grasp and ray of frost.. and shield lol
Clerics also only have 9 Cantrips total and eventually get access to 5 of them. If you're very combat oriented you probably just take Word of Radiance because you're low on options.
you know... Clerics really SHOULD have access to an attack roll cantrip naturally
Though, I will say, At least Toll the Dead and Sacred Flame are pretty decent
Saving throws are statistically more likely to "hit" than attack rolls, aren't they?
or make sacred flame a d10
Sacred flame is okey, sadly is a Dext and sometimes is annoying
I, personally, find myself hitting more with Attack rolls than save cantrips
but in compensation of not so good cantrips cleric get one of the best early lvl 1 spells
Guiding bolt
Bless?
Oh Guiding Bolt, yeah that's a good one.
Cleric has one of the best spell lists in general tbh
that too
tbf there's alot of good level 1 cleric spells and the buffs to healing word makes it even better
Yep, that is the thing with them
Bless, Guiding Bolt, Spirit Guardians
Hell, you COULD consider Shield of Faith as a decent buff to you or your martials early level
you cant give them too consistent cantrips because they have already giga good spells
And it's a bonus action iirc too, no?
oh and they get spare the dying too
Yes!
a good support cantrip to considerate
AND
War Cleric can cast it without concentration for a channel divinity but you can't cast it multiple times on your whole party and its only for one minute , but thats STILL kinda good lol
I know there's MUCH better spells to have concentration on later on, but shield of faith is such a good first level spell, especially if you got a fighter, barbarian or paladin that's Frontlining
Divine order give you either martial weapons and H. Armor
I think Paladins also luckily get it
so you have close combat options
I wanna say so? I'm not 100% sure
if not you can get a good bonus in arcana and religion
they do!
I double checked just now
maybe I should put it on my paladin since I plan on doing two-weapon fighting with him
and we're going to be in ROTFM lol
And there isn't really too many great concentration spells for paladin so it's a good pickup!
Atleast in comparison to cleric lol
Luckily Paladins can swap out spells, so you can try out different things without much trouble.
Alas, I'm going Vengence Paladin when and IF he surivives and gets to level 3, so I'm probably gonna be using Hunters Mark a fair bit
that is a thing i find interesting to support my way to see the things
What spells should I be targeting my allies with as an order cleric?
Pairs nicely with light weapons.
Bless, for one.
Healing Spells, Bless, etc
Heals as needed, bless
Shield of Faith was a good one that we mentioned
Paladin 1 use spells (Divine smite)
Ranger concentration spells mostly (Hunter's mark)
Even with their signature spells
bless, heals
Rangers looking at Vengence Paladin for copying their flow bar by bar /joking
target enemies with guiding bolt depending of what the Martials want to attack first
that Adv for the rogue help a LOT.
Have you considered throwing your weapons?
Ranger looking at Vengeance Paladin
âYou need to use spell slots for that?â
I can recommend thrown weapons Paladin, at least for 2024 rules. It was quite fun!
I DID, but I'd probably play a different character.
The one I'm playing wants to be.. very personal, if you understand my meaning lol
Ahh yes, you're a habitual meleeist, right.
Can you smite on thrown weapons? Because that'd be funny to imagine a paladin raising their blade and charging it with divine energy, only to YEET it at an enemy
Yes
Artanza isnât super melee either
That's amazing omg đ
No, he isn't but I plan on him getting closer.
He has 19 AC and the Shield spell, I think it'd be fair for him to sit with Spirit Gaurdians around Hokrun and Toby
also, now he has a +3 con and Proficency in Con saves
I think he'd be fine
Or using spears//javelins
"Guide my spear with accuracy and give me strength to pierce the hearths of the heretics" kind of thing
In 2024 yes.
If anyone grapples him, he'll just spirit gaurdians or use his once per day free misty step to get away
Now see that's cool, but I wanna do something silly like pick up a bucket, charge it with a smite and throw it at someone đ
I played a Light Hammer/Trident throwing Paladin. It was great! I love a ranged Topple.
Ophidimancer knows me well, I just love slapping stuff up close lmao
My Fighter, Pugilist (duh), Warlock, Artificer and Paladin are ALL Melee Builds lmao
That seems like a very cool scene
If only the monk had the grappler feat and a very mobile playstyle đ oh well
The only ones who won't fight up close are my Cleric (Which might change)
Bard (12 AC) and Ranger (+1 Con)
Hell, I've played a Sorcerer with 11 AC who wasn't afraid of people getting close to him
But I don't want my first bard in a while to get absolutely bodied lmao
Oh wait you mean grapple in that sense
well, my Sorcerer was strange... .11 AC, No Mage Armor, No Shield, just a menace to society whom doesn't bleed (Entity from the far realms made of cosmic dust, the party was shocked when they saw his true form for the first time lmao)
He was going to murder a king because he thought the King was hypnotizing one of his party members and it reminded him of Mindflayers (the party member was just really loyal but talked him down even though they heard bad things about that king)
He was an Aasimar fellow named Z'hass Xolba,
He was an aberrant mind sorc
I should bring him back one day
he was 100% incapable of empathy but was a good person because it was expected of him and he respected people regardless
I should play more "Alien Beings" i REALLLY enjoyed roleplaying as him
he had a tendency to copy the accents and mannerisms of his party members as if trying them on for himself because he was genuinely curious about other beings of the multiverse and wanted to be liked to a degree
Nobody caught onto him copying them until the 4th session lol
It seems I've killed the chat by being a chronic yapper đ§
we are fighting the 400 baboons, sorry
lmao
The hell are you doing to those baboons
killing them
Someone oughta call PETA
true, so they cna drop them in the dessert and kill them by themselves
so they can steal the XP? Nah.
if you have a dragonmark as a non caster and take potent dragonmark do you get said spells?
Yes, but you can only cast it with the potent dragonmark spell slot since, well, you don't typically have spell slots when you're not a caster
ye okay cause to text from potent says "if any" so i was worried what i was looking forward to wasnt gonna work
i was worried when i said "if any" if you didnt have spell casting you didnt get the spells and thus potent mark did nothing
the If any is referring to if you have a spell list, not that its required, if spellcasting was required it would've listed in the feat
No worries
Can a spellcaster create a spell scroll?
yup!
As long as they have proficency in Arcana, I believe
you can spend Downtime scribing a spell scroll in 5e. In 5.5e you need Calligrapher's Tools Proficiency or Arcana Proficiency and you can do it in 1-120 days for a good amount of money depending on the spell level.
It's the main feature of Maverick arteficer too (usable only by you though)
Maverick Artificer is also Third Party so not every dm will allow it.
Also, Cartographer Artificer gets proficency with Calligraphy Tools
Proficency in Arcana is easier to get on your casters then going out of the way for the tools, so I'm glad they made it simple instead of requring both to do it
Guys is being 1 dmg away from being instantly killed luck or fate?
Depends on how you spin it.
Typically its just lucky
ball up top
My character has 33 hp and it got 65 dmg in one hit
oh nvm ball not up on top
Ah, yes, Almost a massive damage death
i thought u were still conscious. massive damage death is rough
They didn't die, it was one away
yeah i know
Nah, a 12 con fairy sorcerer is rough in terms of surviving hits
12 con on a Sorcerer is unfathomable for me
20 char tho
Yeah, but.. Con is also important for casters.
Can't cast spells if you're not alive
It's my third character on that campaign that now started 2 years ago as my first campaign ever
Also important for maintaining concentration
Can't cast spells if I don't spell slots
... Cantrips.
All 3 characters are alive
Last fight all monsters were either fire immune or resistant and my dmg cantrips are fire bolt and acid splash
And acid dmg was not working at all for one type as well
If you're playing 2024 rules, you should take sorcerous burst
2014
Boo-womp
Yeah, uh.. maybe consider pumping your con anyway in the future
I played so far:
Wizard (order of the scribes)
Rogue (with a homebrew gun)
Sorcerer (this wild magic fairy)
Scribe Wizard my beleoved
All are pure one class
It's rn at level 15
Average 2014 optimization build: "Now we take a level 1 dip in sorcerer"
2014 Sorc pretty much only existed to make other Cha caster classes better lol
And recently I got a robe of archmagi for her so she's now more dangerous and a bit tankier when it comes to spells
More AC typically doesn't matter when you don't have the HP to back it up
It's part of one of the reasons I hated 2014
I got it purely for offensive and spell save adv
How there were "main character classes" and "side character classes"
Cleric being a mix of both
Best for dipping and good for going whole
Main character ones being Fighter, Cleric, Druid, Wizard
Side character ones being Sorc, Monk, ect.
Killing 19 innocent villagers with 1 fireball cause I mistook them for cultists is a main character energy right?
Nope. You don't have enough class features to be a main character
Thats.. no?
