My whole party, for two rounds, missed attacking a single person who was sleeping on the ground
Half joking, but you could upcast shatter to the 5th level and that still wouldn't ring any bells
I do not remember any.
i got kicked from m old account and now i lost all connection to my old party
How? Literally how?
Dice have a story to tell
... Greed and Luck not being on our side
??
You know what, I respect that. If not you, then me: I would have made it my life mission to keep attacking just to see how deep this rabbit hole goes
So, Target was asleep, the attacker would only get a crit in if they were within 5 feet, the barbarian kept missing, the warlock and I had to use flat rolls for that crit LMAO
How dose greed get involved in thisđ
...the entire team focusing on one sleeping person? >_>
Nahh, it was just him that was left alive
My sleep spell was amazing
But now that campaign's been on hiatus for two months at this point
our campaign is 2 sessions old
I ended up stopping concentration on that sleep spell, attacked, then still missed, causing them to wake up
Honestly, I just gave up being a player and started being a DM instead
"I'll do it myself."
Yeah and this was kinda the 3rd one but not really this one was a side quest ig
The campaign I now run, the players all respect me as I respect them and no one has missed a single session
Ur so lucky
Thank you Lana from hit show Pokemon
Like 2 people always show up and 2 show up once in a blue moon
Darn, lol, my players actually are earlier than me sometimes
My session is in 8 hours and I can't sleep, too restless
i generally just let my players kill unconscious NPCs if done out of combat to avoid this kind of situation
It's funnier this way
our dnd group is IRL friends
My Mom doesnât understand that 00 and 9 on the d100 is 9, not 109
How do I explain it to her?
How strong would the following feat be:
Magic Initiate, but you got 2 Cantrips from any combination of spell lists and no first-level spell
Too strong.
Youâd get Eldritch Blast and Prestidigitation, which is pretty good
ur mom rolled 00 and 9 on d100's?
A set of one d10 and one d100
I have so many character ideas but canât make em cuz Iâm a dm and making them npc is a waste
It is how it is
I'm just now thinking of DMing a second game at this point, just embracing the forever DM curse
It's not a curse it's a higher calling
I'd feel like EB (or poison spray at low levels) + Guidance or True Strike would be better tbh
Anyway, is that better than having access to Shield or that 2d10 spell?
Of course
2d10? you mean Inflict Wounds?
oh no, that's 3d10
Sec as I look for it quickly
Just make it non-origin
Spellfire Flare
of course with it comes the stress of not being good enough for the players đ
Your the one running the game, they show up when your good enough, they stay when you are great
Very profound
well said, just gotta rush into it like my CoS game and hope for the best
(For single-target, I'm surprised how much damage that thing does btw, 5 blasts of 2d10 instead of Cone of Cold isn't a bad trade)
Found out something a little worrisome
And that's how even the +2 to damage rolls on 2 handed attacks would even make Fighter much more of a menace
I mean, it's okay but I wouldn't say it's better than Shield
It's why GWM is a fan favorite
No, this was just free as a DM rule
Not GW FS or GWM
What if I specifically exclude Warlock? (Only full casters with level 1 Spellcasting ability)
Would that still be too strong?
Oh damn
2 cantrips from the spell lists of all full casters + a level one spell?
Full customisability but no level 1 spell
I don't know any two cantrips that's good enough for that penalty
Guidance for sure... but other than that the cantrips are slim picking, nothing too extraordinary
So it isn't OP and game breaking?
If two cantrips are game breaking then idk what kinda game you're running
Alright, having a slightly worse Origin feat sounds like a deal to me. Thanks btw!
I'm always afraid that giving freedom like that has some weird combo potentials and I'm trying to make a slim list of slight alternatives which are weirdly missing thusfar
Fighter with lvl 5, 20 Str, and enemy AC of 13 would already be a problem. But iirc, flanking rules gave an additional +2 to both attack and damage rolls. Meaning that his DPR would be (and was) 30. And if forbid he got advantage from the enemy and GWM, that's a DPR of 50. Level 5 btw
normally most stuff is kinda balanced with some basic rules, like 1 spell per turn for example.
Unless you get action surge but for that one would need to spend 2 levels for it
I would say, see spells and be careful with some magic high tier items
like this funny(nt) spell that is poison and incapacitated
But if Ranger got a +2 just to damage, that apparently would have been broken. Not even the hyper optimal one, just the one with a longbow and trying and no chances for advantage (even more chances with disadvantage because of how many people could just sprint 125-200 ft in a turn by sacrificing all their actions
Wait- is this Baldur's Gate?
yeah, bad homebrew is bad allright
I feel like 1 spell per turn is already a rule you should be breaking
Leveled + Cantrip + Reaction spell FTW
Cantrips are actually surprisingly weak compared to 1st level spell utility. Losing a level 1 spell for another cantrip of any class is very weak
you can a spell and cantrip in the same turn with metamagic
Flanking optional gives adv
or a cantrip// spell + attack with eldritch knight
Wait isn't that a thing you can just do? Did I break the rules that often?
24
oh damn
2024 is not a problem, only 1 spell SLOT per turn
Yeah
This one just gave +2 to both attack and damage. Which, by the way, I did the math again
2014 is weirder, but alas does the same thing iirc
Oh I got worried I really ruined that without any DM ever noticing lol
No 2 leveled spells same turn without other ways of casting
Also iirc, combined with Warcaster, with your reaction you can cast "Haste" when an ally walks away from your reach
If Fighter pulled out all the stops: GWM, GWFS, prone, flanking, and Action Surge, that would have been a DPR of 103 at level 5
Why do you need flanking and prone?
you can't stack advantage
May I ask if it's weak but actually usable, or so weak that it needs a buff? (And is 3 Cantrips too much?)
All good
3 cantrips I think would be enough ish, but the strength of level 1 spells is utility that is too good to be constant, like feather fall, Shield, healing, etc
And if you are taking an origin feat for it, you are usually getting the +1 spell to cover a certain base or weakness
So while yes, 3 cantrips could work, that's also more than some casters start out with
Well I'll be testing that out then! I mostly never got much out of Magic Initiate in Martial classes and even 2 Cantrips of any choice felt a bit more usable as a start
Sorry, small tangent
2 cantrips being a fighter can be a lot of things in general
Wait, isnt magic initiate now 2 cantrips + 1 level 1 spell
Hmm... my party is about to level up to 5... what uncommon or rare magic item should I perhaps give to them...
sadly there is no T.hp or heal cantrip i know because it would be giga useful
Cloak of manta ray, its cute.
It's a bummer that Druid doesn't feel as abusable (or I'm doing something wrong) but maybe that's the intention lol
For HP and tanking by spamming Wild Shape
yeah, but think of something like just 1 class thing.
Like Eldritch blast is something htat most of the time only warlock get
As a fighter, if you dont have good casting stats, Guidance, Message, and Minor Illusion could work
Just stole the party's weapons and magic items last session, all of 'em
Moon Druid does this best, but I would say Druids are quite durable with Wild Shape for early levels.
Even better if you're a halfling and minor illusion a cardboard box over yourself and crouch down
Custom sneak attack
I think best early tiers of play go to Druid, Cleric, and Barbarian
Oh ye, Moon Druid feels more balanced but still stupidly good lol
But also, stupidly good for exploration and infiltration
Flight and Invisibility go a long way
Mhm
What's a fun magic item for a Way of The Sun Soul Monk...
Mmmmmmmm, do I say it......
Wraps of Unarmed Prowess is a safe and good answer
anyone able to help in Optimization
đ¤ Hell yeah
Go on
Hmm sounds like Wraps of Unarmed Power... but better?
just straight up an upgrade
Either or works wells
Eldritch claw tattoos reflavored, Dawnmaker, Amulet of the Devout (I know >:))
Or you could give them a belt or something that allows them to recover ki mid combat as a action/bonus action
Sun Stone
Dragonhide belt
That is an actual thing
Im working on my first campaign and I need feedback
Dawnmaker? or Dawnbringer
with what
The campaign
Yeah, that, mb
They're level 4, so NO I won't give them a legendary item
They already have heightened metabolism
i meant what do u need feedback on, like the specific thing
Not really
???
So a bunch of adventures (the players rest at a tavern right after a long journey (thay do improve bar things until thay meet forexinstare who starts talking about dragon sittings and then everyone gos black mid sentinc (thay dont know this yet but the hole tavern gets swallowed buy a dragon thay wake up in a dragons stomach ware thay have to jump a pit of acid and then find the dragon hart wich is super fragile but will like nuke explode at the slightest damage (improve them finding a way to withstand/block the blast) then thay end up free falling ware thay land in thare own way then thay see a village that forexinstare says that's ware she grew up we go thare and we see its being attacked by ice elementals thay are thanked and taking to the mayor and that's it so far
Pffff
"I will spam this 30 times before the mission"
Ill make it stack
im too sleepy to read this
my eyes hurt
Lol
I wanna give my players a Belt of Dwarvenkind
Whatâs stopping you?
A number of factors as to why I can't right now in the game I'm running
Namely the martials already have a lot of magic items and I need to give some more caster specific magic items
Aw man
Just give attunement stuff, that'll be fun
What are some buffs that a necromancer can give their minions that wouldnât be better off on other player characters? (Or have a large enough amount of targets that you can buff both them and your minions)
it's Criminal DnD Beyond still doesn't have Spell Loadouts
dnd beyond is different than dnd
oh
antelope people also seems like an easy reflavor for satyr
or shifter
but they're not in the looooooooooooore :<
At least Lupin are coming
I don't see why specifically antelope people out of all the potential animal-human hybrids should get a place
Pretty sure there is an antelope person in the lore of the fr anyway
(or at least deer-adjacent)
there's a favorite species of mine that's too obscure to be a whole species. also deer are overrated.
Looked it up and found Hybsils
wasn't Antilope person a main singer in Zootopia?
I'm referring to the eastern bongo, specificaally
Honestly? I wish they'd give more along the anthropomorphic spectrum that was between "humanoid" and "furry" or "cartoon animal"
Satyr is darn near perfect, but that's about it
There is, some Furry artists pull out chart so you can choose your prefered drawing type as if they asked you how well you want your steak done
I meant playable in 5e
? There are multiple
It goes
Human > ~~Lupin ~~ to be released> Shifter > Tabaxi
I guess we can fit Satyrs somewhere on there
Shifter seems like a good mix.
between shifter and tabaxi
Dragonborn, Shifter, Kenku, Leonin, Kobolds, Lizardfolk, Loxodon, Minotaur, Satyr, Thri-keen, Tortle, Aarakocra
do we count Centaur
you could yes
The Shifter's like a half-lycanthrope
With four different types with exclusive features
You can't transform, at least not fully
So you'll often look more like a freakish creature
-# Tieflings often have animal traits due to demons and rakshasa being a thing. Probably can say the same for celestials. RIP Aardlings
Tieflings are goated.
they are not goated, they are demonic, devilish or Yuggolothish?
I got a tiefling whose rakshasa traits manifest as elephant ears and small tusks
nice!
Im playing Merfolk
I want to do a gnoll Tiefling. Still got the horns, but has spots on her skin/fur and is noticeably scruffier
don't they need to be in water every so often?
no
ok
and even so, don't you take a shower every day, its kind of the same
anyway that Merfolk is based on Dragalge Pokemo
they walk
I think polearms being a dex weapon is moreso Genshin logic than DnD logic
by putting one feet in front of the other
and than just repeating until they get somewhere
A bostaff is like one thing, but an actual polearm? In reality, polearms are pretty heavy and cumbersome.
do their legs show up once their tails are dry of
You might be overestimating the weight of weapons there
Maybe. I guess it depends on what you classify as a polearm.
A polearm or pole weapon is a close combat weapon in which the main fighting part of the weapon is fitted to the end of a long shaft, typically of wood, extending the user's effective range and striking power.
Why would they?
Is that the description in DnD context?
I wonder, could someone technically be half aasimar half tiefling. Or rather half fiendish half celestial
i dont think weve been talking in DnD context for the last little part
That's just human as it turns out
It just feels like it would be a good fit. Especially because dex melee weapons always felt super limited
And in theory, it would definitely by possible
Wat
Nah, dex is good enough, 2h weapons being all strength is fine
Scimitar, shortsword, rapier, dagger, Revenant blade double bladed scimitar, whip
Thereâs options
Wait do aasimars even count as celestials
no
Donât believe so
Well thats...weird isnt it
Is it weird Tieflings arent fiends, or genasi arent elementals?
In my opinion, yes
For reach, a d4 is pretty ouch
Theyre plane touched
theyre mortals with powers associated with an extraplanar or plane of existence
To be fair, the dex based classes mostly can use it better than most. Rogues can sneak attack with it, and monks get bigger dice
Ranger doesnât get much though
Unfortunately so. They could technically just use a pike, but that requires a very good strength stat on top of dex
On the bright side, you can use a shield with it
Only reach one handed weapon
Javelins are thrown and they don't have finesse, I'd say they are very close to polearms
Spears have the thrown property and versatile, but not finesse either.
Pikes, Glaives, and Halberds I'd say can be argued as types of polearms, are classified as heavy and two handed. These are what I was thinking of polearm in DnD.
Even quarterstaffs, which I think bostaffs would fall under, don't have finesse. That is kind of weird to me.
I guess DnD just considers any long stick things to not be very dextrous...
I still find it silly that tridents arenât polearms RAW
throwing a weapon would require strength to increase the kinetic output/damage it deals, but actually using a polearm in melee combat requires dexterity for sure more than it requires strength.
Even those don't have finesse. As far as DnD definitions go, the properties of polearms are fairly consistent.
Oh I donât think tridents should have finesse
That would be kinda busted for rogues
If there was a Pike having the finesse property and no other polearm having it, then that definitely wouldn't make sense since those are like the heavy two handed polearms.
But nah, every pointy stick thingy does not have finesse
any sharp/pointy weapon is (in real life at least) going to be better in the hands of someone hwo is agile moreso than the hands of someone who is strong
As a reenactor who actually has to carry a pike i can confirm they are not finesse
aye pikes are hefty though that is true
They are clumsy and are not balanced.
I mean irl speed is basically everything isn't it? If you can be agile with a warhammer, well you've basically compensated for the weakness of a warhammer. The question is moreso can you be agile with a polearm.
Definetly not fun to carry on your shoulder. Boy does it make it sore
pikes however were moreso used for being in formation against a charge, and you didn't really use them in combat with a 1 on 1?
Correct.
See this is what I think the reasoning for DnD polearms is. Generally speaking, most would be kinda clumsy with a really long stick that has a weighted tip.
so you'd drop your pike or let it be stuck in the horse and draw your sidesword
spears and halberds:
It would take someone specialized with polearms to use it dextrously so polearms shouldn't have the property by default.
They were easy to counter so thats why they just dropped it and took out their secondary
I love great hammers and War hammers
Like a monk having a feature that would allow them to use DEX for a polearm
on Qstaffs and Spears
Mmm stick my fav weapon
If you've seen spear use irl you know people can be fast with them but don't typically like, flip them around and do acrobatics with them, they generally keep them pointed at the enemy and stationary. The dexterity from using them comes from the dexterity of using any piercing weapon, accurately landing a stab without being blocked or parried.
speed edge alignment and draw length are what counts with swords
the heaviest of zweihanders were like bellow 15 LB, which was an absurdly large sword 7 ft long! most zweihanders which are greatswords in D&D were 5-8 pounds and very balanced so you were quite agile with it
I think it should be noted that weapons in dnd use strength and Dex for balance and variety more so than realism
Yeah, greatswords in DnD are MUCH more agile than they are irl so using IRL logic for the game at all is kinda not very logical. But greatswords also don't have the finesse property either do they?
I'd say that axes and maces are actually good with the STR stat as their base
Agreed, plus mauls too. But thatâs secondary to balance in my mind
Bludgeoning weapons make more sense with strength due to their lesser force multiplier
was what I was getting at
Yeah, axes, hammers, maces basically anything that would still do a ton of damage if you hit heavy armor or had your attack blocked fit the STR depiction in DnD very well.
is also why I could see greatswords not do bad with a dex stat really
(and longswords)
I donât think even those weapon would do a ton of damage to heavy plate
oh ... they would
They would?
I somehow doubt smacking a person in full plate with an axe is gonna do a TON
Those weapons are famous for beating the hell out of armor.
a flanged mace strike to the chest even with plate on will knock knock the wind out of you.
and possibly break a rib
a knock on the head and you're out cold
Axes have enough weight behind them that they can generally cleave through a lot of plate armor as well. Chain they might have a bit more of a struggle against I think? But still.
Couldnât plate armor at some stage take a bullet? In all fairness Iâm no expert, but Iâm skeptical it would cleave.
And hammers are just the bane of armor. Archeologists have found holes in skeletons from hammers, armor be damned.
if we are talking like a one handed footman axe, then yes, it would struggle... but a turkish/janissary war axe or pray tell a russian bardiche, that will hurt
I think halberds axe heads are historically scary too. Halberds in general are terrifying weapons.
Tbf, most weapons are terrifying if youâre fighting someone with one
very strong defensive weapon, especially if you had plate armor and didn't need a shield for sure
Billhooks are also cool
Yes but a halberd combines the mechanical advantage of basically a long ass lever and a hammer...
yep, but in theory expensive and one must have the strength and learn how to use it well
With the piercing capabilities of an axe
And the reach of a spear.
Spear, axe and hammer in one weapon, in dnd is only reach and slash but irl is like, top tier medieval weapon
Exactly.
-# ad mortem inimicus in the background
still 1d10 is good, i would put it like 1d12 tho
and make it 15gp more
I actually co-designed a weapon for my barbarian orc that is a bardiche with my DM :o
its look like a greataxe or is what i found in google right now
Flavor is nice always tho
I think it's statblock is very nice. Reach, cleave, and slashing basically covers everything without giving it too much and 1d10 feels appropriate considering it's not really a specialized weapon like greatswords and greataxes.
it's custom drawn
and it's basically absurdly heavy (50 lb) and anyone with STR under 12 cannot use it in combat and under STR 16 rolls attacks with disadvantage
It's not redundant with anything else I think is what I like about it.
D...damn...
true, but i just want martial weapons to be more op honestly
and we added that for every 2 points of STR above 16 adds 1d6 bludgeoning damage on a hit with a max cap at STR 26, so the damage will scale a little here but not too much
Actually, I think it could use piercing instead of slashing. Because even the axe part of a halberd would basically pierce armor.
Because as it stands the glaive and halberd are almost mechanically the same, just different mastery properties.
hard happening but i see from you would be going
If not, special magic weapon or just special weapon. Halberd "Insert name of some great adventurer or legend in your campaign"
Can be used for either piercing, slashing or bludgeon damage
So druids get their powers sometimes from nature gods. But what about rangers
Thanks to their connection with nature, Rangers can also cast spells that harness primal powers of the wilderness.
Hey, what's a good reward for finding candy for an engineer in a ship's engine room? The engineer is a fairy, so what would she do as a reward? This is a low level area.
same, both get their magic from embrace the nature powers and sense them
So technically. Almost every class has something holy about them, wether it be their own class or subclass aside from 3
Damn what is this holy dnd
Zealot barb
Clerics no need to explain further
Druids sometimes
Same with rangers
Sun soul monk kinda but not really
Paladins
Celestial warlock
Divine soul sorcerer
Smth smth wizard i forgot the name
if itâs 50lb anyone Medium size with strength under 20 shouldnât be able to use it and anyone with strength under 25 should get disadvantage
thatâs an insane weight for a weapon
real life bardiches are like 6-7lb
Six se-
quiet teenager
Ill see myself out
Ik lmao. We good
Anyway i was actually thinkin of playin ranger. Any suggestions for a subclass that are fun and not just optimized
in general d&dâs weapon weights are pretty accurate and when theyâre wrong itâs mostly in the direction of too heavyâŚ
2014 or 2024?
How about both. We do a lil funny
Winter walker and Gloomstalker are fun. Oh and Drakewarden!
Thank yew
Iâd only do drakewarden if you know itâll be high level tho
Gotcha
Hi friends
Hallo
Oh wow gloomstalker seems really fun. Ill be playing that
Feels like a ninja subclass lol
It's basically ranger meets rogue đââď¸
atleast from what i can recall of gloomstalker
more like Assassin meet ranger but yeah, gloomstalker is okey
the winter walker one sound funny
Ah well if we're talking about specifics then yeah it's assassin rogue đ
"what's your speciality?"
"I walk... in the winter."
+"I was raised by a pack of wolfs in the winter mountains, now where is the next mission?"
-"The....dessert..."
+"What is that?"
-"Ermmm....
I'm pretty sure that's the main reason they got rid of favored terrain đ
âAnd for the rest of the year?â
âWell, it takes me 9 months to hone my skillsâŚâ
âGet out of the party.â
"Frickin seasonal rangers.."
"You got leave with that?"
na, people tend to just ignore it or smt like that
yeah a winter walker would definitely be more at home in icewind dale than in chult
in general sound a class that is a bit more tanky for the HM thing and the extra cold damage sound nice
âNo, but you can work from home.â
âHow can I adventure at home?â
âThe same way you train your Winter Walking: far, far away from us.â
and can always flavor it like a Dessert walker, instead of cold you can get resistance to fire and that it is
Change the elemental thing to fire and there
quick question i just started a new campaign and i went ranger/druid was that a good pick?
a bit redundant on spells
Are you enjoying it? Then yeah, technically
cant really say we only had one session so far
in flavor wise, kinda yes
IN gameplay not so much but if you are having fun, go whatever make you happier
ok thanks
try new stuff, strats, campaigns, change your expectations, play with other kind of objectives in mind, etc etc.
Try other TTRPGs as well. It can be good to explore other game systems and see how they handle things.
Also okay to just take a break.
my flavoured terrain is dessert
Second this
Or fight 400 baboons
Trying other things can make you appreciate something you enjoy more.
A whole 5 session chapter in a campaign about fighting an army of 500 baboons
what character should i use next in D&D game? Thesekar, wanderer with dragon cub, or The Un-named one, he wears a black cloak and an animal skull as a mask and uses dark magic as well as a giant demonic ghost dragon that lives inside of him, he can sometimes open dark garganta like portals and he really like metal and rock music (lets just say NIN, RammStein, and MĂ NESKIN exist in this D&D game. Also my DM said I could use either of them)
Im not sure i know another
I could try that. Maybe be a better roleplayer
Pathfinder is what I'd recommend if you go the try another rpg route
Ask your DM first
It's very free to play friendly
I have, he didnt directly answer but said I could use both
Flip a coin
It's action system is also a lot less complicated than it sounds and honestly less complicated than 5e.
Okay I can try it
Just 3 actions and your done and everything costs 1 or more actions
yoo hey where can I find a best art
im gonna name the un-named one, his name is now La Carne and I'm gonna use him, now instead of demonic dragon and strange dark abilities, he uses flesh
Playing a bit of PF initially made me feel like "I kinda like how easier 5e is to play" and I got back on the proverbial 5e horse.
Older dnd editions is also a decent choice. You get to see how the game has changed over the years.
See the good, the bad, and the ugly of older editions.
Tried Shadowrun yet? Wrath & Glory? Roll for Shoes? Blades in the Dark? Rogue Trader? Go do some internet research on TTRPGs, pick something that piques your interest, give it go.
gonna rephrase that, he is now a giant living ball of carrion
Shadowrun is definitely a system that'll make you appreciate 5e more lol
Okay, ill try it. Maybe, ill drop the campaign im in then
And if you end up enjoying it, most Shadowrun fans love nothing more than new people.
That goes for most systems despite internet reputations.
Like 9/10 if you ask a Warhammer 40k fan how to get into 40k they're gonna excitably bombard you with lore, likely about their favorite faction rather than the 1/10 that soils their internet reputation would do.
or just take a break from it, its okey doing that
Yeah, how do you make dnd fun?
I like big numbers of damage and some roleplay
That it is, im that basic but in other way im kinda new to DnD so i have still an exploration window
How do you make dnd fun?
Wdym "make" it fun?
find what you think is fun about dnd
Homebrew, homebrew, and tons more homebrew
Especially making it yourself
think what exactly about it do you like
Whatâs your favorite animal? Make (Insert animal)folk
Like Lizardfolk, but that animal
Losing my interest so just asking
What parts are you finding unfun? Find a way to minimize or remove those elements
I nearly quit tabletop altogether cause of bad experiences.
But then I got in the current circle of dnd people I'm in currently and have been enjoying it again.
Just not getting immersed in the world
And not enjoying rping as much
Have you been playing a lot of D&D recently
Fair enough, thx Sora
Could be burnt out
No, im returning from a hiatus
Youâre allowed to be out of practice at the things you like; as you play more now that youâre back playing, youâll get back in the groove in no time
like sora said too, sometimes it's the people you play with. i've played with people that made me wanna quit the hobby all together
I seem. None of my friends play unfortunately
do also note though, that your friends may not be the best dnd players
(in this instance i mean they might be problematic players)
((not that they would be good at playing dnd off the rip))
i liked the game a lot better when i found a group that didn't care nearly as much about optimization as my last group
i don't mind making a strong build but it gets on my nerves when people try to tell me off for making a choice with my character for flavor and/or non-combat
Oh thats valid. I do appreciate the rp and narrative more. Perhaps, im in the wrong table top tho
i'm in a group where sometimes we forget to roll dice with how involved we get in the roleplay
That sounds great, ngl
yea fr like sometimes i intentional choose not to do something during combat just so we won't end it before the enemy took their turn
or most of the time i build my character for support & utility
i try to build mines to make a certain task properly
The fighter im playing must stand his ground and literally obliterate some enemy
Anyone know of any save increasing items that don't cost an attunement slot?
No, as a general trend, they all require attunement
would be too good then, attunement is a way to balance the things too
battlemaster 3 gloomwalker 5 assassin 3 and maybe a few extra lvs if u can spare it = obliterates every enemy ever
God I missed playing a fighter. I missed extra attacks so much. Killed 6 out of 8 twig blights in an encounter
Also I got to respectfully nog the other martials who were doing less damage than my minimum with GWM 2024 and fighting style
I do think I love the proficiency to damage that 2024 gives to gwm over the -5 +10
forgive me if this is a silly noob question but what on earth does LFG mean in the context of dnd ???
looking for game
oh my god thank you it all makes sense now
na, im doing for now a 1 class per character thing.
Later after experimenting some of each i will multi
Letâs Feed Gnolls /jk
I only know what LFG stands for in dumb internet slang and I tried to say it and got put on timeout cause I didnât know swear word was illegal đ that was a very humbling experience
I would feed gnomes, maybe not gnolls unless we were chill like that
How to post in looking for dm?
Read #find-a-game
Ty
Tips for first time dm?
run lost mine or dragonspire peak. theyre the starter set modules, and you can find them for free online iirc
What?
I have my own world
you can find lmop for free but you have to pay for icespire peak
ahh thats it
Communicate with your players
Respect your players
Put passion into the game
Donât overprep
Expand your vocabulary
Show, not tell (and use descriptive language that talks into all senses)
Have fun, no stress, and COMMUNICATE
Have a session zero
You donât write a story, your party lives through one. Donât prepare tales, prepare scenarios.
Try to know more than your players
COMMUNICATE
keep your platter small, make sure everyone is having fun, reflect on mistakes, hydrate
I second âhydrateâ
Thatâs like perfect thx
third that, youâre talking a whole lot
Oke doke
they're pretty open, so you could even slot them into your own setting without too much trouble. I recommend them mostly because they are so good at teaching new DMs how to DM. that being said, if you are dead set on running something unique, let nothing stop you
Oh and if you want help specifically with anything, ask. #dm-discussion is one place
Ok Iâm going as unique as possible but still like dnd
Ok thanks
Oh and remember that lore is only as good as your players can absorb it
Iâm gonna do a test run With just 1 person to start
Good to know
Focus on things that are happening or will happen over history, because unlike history your players will experience the story directly
History can be fun to write and add lore, but not everyone will want to read 5 pages. Keep it concise, sharp and engaging.
also i recommend giving ur player a "cheat sheet" for the common rules, have a list of names for inprov, and look through ur player's character sheet
Ok
keeping a notebook is nice
I was thinking of making some things up like characters up as we go along (npcs ofc)
Naturally, you canât build the entire world at once down to every detail
Exactly
That was my thought process
yea exactly, have some stuff like names for improv makes making stuff on the spot easier
Care to share the unique-ness?
It takes place on a alien planet
But still magic and monsters
Not futuristic
also if ur using a campaign book like ones made by wotc read it thoroughly, once i didn't read carefully enough and had to look up the pronunciation of a name in the middle of the sentence
Do not have any of those just a map and dice
My friend lives in new York so uh no we doing digital
Other side of America lol
Thanks you were EXTREMELY helpful
-# i cant tell, is that sarcasm or is that genuine?
Genuine
I couldnât tell myself lol
dndbeyond lagging rn?
Wait does it ever NOT?
What do you say is the most fun class to play in your opinion?
In my opinion: Tie betwen warlock, barbarian, or paladin
Iâve only ever played shinobi it was really fun
I take is Shinobi is a homebrew class
lol me too
Can I have the details for the class?
um i dunno i like warlock, wizard, and for melee i dunno
Bow katana and grappling hook also low health and poison darts
My favorite class to play is Clerics, because it's got the most DOG in them out of the casters imo
Looks over at my Tiefling War Cleric
I should play Karkas again one day
lol one of my player played a cleric, no offense but i don't like it tho
My War Cleric killed a Lich twice in the same combat :]
Once temporarily, it then absorbed some hp, came back to life, then he killed it again and we destroyed its Phylactry
Guys Iâve only ever done 1 campaign and Iâm not even done with it weâve done like 3 sessions
oh lol lich are annoying
what about it?
Idk I thought it was really fun
Iâm on the fence between bladesinger, paladin and shinobi
Shinobi isn't an official class, so you'd have to ask your dm.
Are Sleight of Hand, Strength, and Persuasion a good mix of skill check options for a challenge? I didn't wanna leave anyone out,
And I want to play
challenge for what
Options for a skill check where you're trying to grab a ring through a sewer grate
Slide your hand through, lift the grate, or ask for help
I can't wait to punch more people in the face with Sentry tomorrow :]
Bladesinger then
are you ready to deal with a dragon first
We're already talking to her smh
try #dnd-newcomers , or #find-a-game for info
still havent dealt with her :P
Doesn't she have a job request or something for us?
:)
dragons are stronger compared to cr early but later it's mid
I can't imagine with how cordial and apologetic she's been acting that she'd want to kill us
We didn't kill her Minions when they attacked us either smh
Guys guys pls help I spilled some stuff on my desk and in a panic I grabbed the closest piece of paper I had but that was actually the plan from my D&D campaign and it was the only thing I had it stored on
And now it's ruined
The thing I spelled was paint
Spilled
... um try to save what u can and redo it?
Ok
How do I get rid of the new to dnd role?
How do I rp better
there's no direct solution, the only thing there is to it is practice
try describing your character's options more
I find a good set of PBIF (Personality, Bonds, Ideals, Flaws) helps with this. It's basically a self written custom guideline for your character. Use them as touchstones when you don't know how to act in-character.
**Personality **- The default emotional âstanceâ of your character or their standing animation at the character select screen, if you will. This is how your character generally behaves when nothing else is going on.
**Bonds **- The people, places, and things that are important to your character, either good or bad. These are the connection points between your character and the game world, very important for integrating the character and the plot.
**Ideals **- These are your characterâs ethics. This is where you state how your character believes people should behave.
**Flaws **- These are your characterâs blind spots or things that plague your character in a way that drives the story forward and makes the plot more interesting, a built-in conflict generator. Usually they will be a kind of weakness in your mindset, but it can be anything else that consistently obstructs your characterâs life.
A solid and clear Personality is a default stance you can always fall back on whenever you don't know how to act in-character. Having that as a starting point from which you can branch out is usually helpful. Also helpful to pick one or two signature behavioral tics. It doesn't have to be an accent, but that's one choice. It can also be habitual word choices, catch phrases, posture. Always flipping a coin, perhaps. Or biting your nails nervously.
That Personality bit is probably the biggest acting guide part. Pick a stereotype of your character and just keep repeating it until you feel comfortable doing it. Once you're comfortable with the most stereotypical bit of your character, you can start branching out form there and adding nuance.
Thereâs no like true base line of how to rp, do whatâs comfortable for you. Donât overstrain ya self to do voices/accents ect.
Stuff comes with time
so... is detecting poisons species dependant?
Would a dog person detect chocolate?
Would a Sheep fail to detect Holly Berries?
Would a human mark down the Dwarfs Food?
If im Allergic to Gluten would my Detect Poison just detect regular bread?
Asking the real questions. The spell seems to me like it would pick up the capital P poisons as listed in the book. I suspect dietary incompatibility would be out of scope there.
yep, for the same reason dragons dont intrinsically detect as magic i'd reckon
Can I use the mending can trip to fix a torn bag of holding
no
well, you can use mending on it, but it explicitly can't restore magic to a broken magic item
well poison does depend on the dosage, so technically everything is a posion
maybe thats why the druids spell detects the ocean as poisonous ... and they're overreacting for no reason
What are good or creative uses for mending
magic show for sure
fixing torn clothes
Patch up a shredded letter?
sealing small portals
unpicking fruit
If there was an earthquake that caused a huge fissure, can I fix it
Many Small fissures that make up a big fissure?
mending can fix things explicitly coded for mending yes
Ooo you can mend lockpicks
Erasing evidence of breaking and entering. Just be mindful that it's a one minute cast time.
Gotta pay gold to have the bag of holdings enchantment restored which isn't cheap
mending could mend a lock đ
Just break all the pins inside and make it seem like someone attempted to break in and failed leaving in a hurry
"...single break or tear in an object." So if you'd clipped a bolt, sure. If you'd gotten a lockpick stuck in a key lock and it's broken off, jamming the mechanism, not so much.
My enire old account got deleted but somehow i msnaged to contact someon from my old party
how do i ask about players wanting to join my campaign
Go to find a game and then make a post in looking for players
Then look in looking for dm
i dont think you understand, im asking how to gain permission to post in those channels as they are locked to me
my players just messed up their stealth mission đ
You cant post in them directly, only on the threads posted there
See #find-a-game for instructions
Oop, did you have a contingency plan for that being derailed?
Improv baby!
It's just the gta v diamond casino heist
You go loud once you get spotted
No one will notice you if there's no one left to notice đ
Heavy Stealth
My party was plying through Keys From the Golden Vault (A module of heist type one shots), and asked for a horn of valhalla
Horn of valhalla
Which summons a bunch of berserkers
For heists đ
So when it comes to fiend warlock, i suppose you usually make pacts with lesser fiends and not someone like zariel yes?
Could be. Higher level warlocks are maybe on Zariel's radar. Most starting adventurers are basically interns.
Well that would give me an idea for a zariel tiefling
Hey, I got a paladin thing im curious about
Let's say a paladin swore an oath to protect someone they held dear
But that person then betrayed the paladin and their allies, and the paladin then swear an oath to avenged his slain allies, what would happen?
I think what happens next would be something to explore in the game. ;)
Or are you asking other DMs how they might start pulling on that storybeat?
Now i got a thought. You could technically turn eldritch knight into a sort of halfcaster. If you use booming blade and green flame blade
Theyâd break the oath of protection and change it to an oath of vengeance, is howâd I rule it
Yup, thatâs how Iâd play my Eldritch knight
Is the first one an Oath oath, like Devotion or Crown, or the kind of vow or promise anyone could make?
It is smarter to do em like that after all. They are frontliners so
My god i wish paladins had booming blade
They wouldnât be able to make much use of it past level 4
But you can get it through magic initiate
It doesn't play well with Extra Attack. And Paladins don't have Hextra Attack.
They are already a third caster, though?
But yes, Eldritch Knights using Blade Cantrips is pretty standard.
No no ik that, i was more just suggesting the fact that they could technically be off brand halfcaster with those cantrips
I kind of assumed all EKs used those already.
Wait dont they get an extra attack at level 5 or smth or is my memory that bad
Paladin gets Extra Attack at 5, yes. But Booming Blade doesn't work with Extra Attack.
It's not that hard for Paladin to get Booming Blade, being a High Elf or having Magic Initiate can get you access to that spell. But once they get their Extra Attack, they're going to want to use that instead of Booming Blade.
Dangit
"Hextra Attack" which is a fan term and not an official one, is what we call the version of Extra Attack that allows you to replace one of your attacks with a Cantrip.
Eldritch Knights do get Hextra Attack, which means they can weave Booming Blade, Green Flame Blade, or True Strike into their Extra Attack.
I see, what a shame but understandable
And is something that probably all Eldritch Knights do, since it's just basically free extra damage.
The idea just randomly came to mind, but I have never played a paladin before, so I was wondering how it would work
That im very much aware of lol
Its like smites but cantrips instead
quick quection, how powerful are 9th level spell slots?
on a scale of, this is good to- im ending the world with a snap
They're pretty good. They won't end the world, but they're the best a mortal caster can manage.
Uhh im ending the world with a snap basically
You might want to rephrase the question. Ninth level spell slots can be anything from using a 9th level slot to upcast Find Familiar (no increased effect), upcasting Magic Missile (increased effect, but it's still a 1st level spell) to casting Wish (the most powerful spell currently existing.)
Well wish is powerful thats for sure
Better answer, yes.
So are you asking about Ninth Level spells?
What are even the limits of wish
well, im joining an overlord-anime-themed campaign, we start at lvl 20, im tryna make a 'Johnny Silverhand' but customised cuz why not,
a spell-which makes any magic 10 feet without you dissapate, but let's you cast magic- is that too strong or does it come under 8th slot(round 1 hour duration)
DM fiat, basically.
So it could be anything
Again you should understand the difference between "9th level spell" and "9th level spell slot" before you homebrew stuff.
well im like consuming the slot to use the spell right?(sry, never played mage)
Im pretty sure they mean a 9th level spell
You can consume a spell slot to cast a spell of that level or lower.
yeah, we get 1 i believe.
yes
so leme clarify, im talking about making a spell
So when you're referring to a spell itself, don't call it a slot.
mb(holy lol)
Especially when homebrewing, you're going to want to be very technical with wording because it makes all the difference.
Perhaps have a look at some existing level 9 spells to use as a baseline, rather than trying to make up magic without a frame of reference?
kk
Also this already exists. Antimagic field does exactly this as long as you exclude yourself from the emanation.
You think tiefling horns can grow back if their broken off or no?
probably not
Why not
would depend on the material, I seriously doubt that those horns are made from keratin
Yes, if you want. No, if you think that's cooler.
It's fantasy, not biology. Do whatever feels cooler.
And also there's validity on both sides because irl a lot of creatures that have horns grow it back, but others don't
But take that with a grain of salt bc fantasy
Well id say no, better if they want a helmet to fit lol
I think all fantasy should be 100% grounded and realistic and I HATE escapism
Ew, "realism."
If I were a tiefling I'd just find a helmet made for tieflings I am not cutting off my precious horns
That's a very humanocentric assumption that helmets aren't built to accomodate horns.
If i were one i would probs do it cuz they would just be in the way depending on how big they are. Some go far back to the head
I just got a really good idea for a homebrew item, a magic helmet that is summoned around the horns, a one-fits-all for tieflings and other horned species, as the helmet adapts to the location of the horns when summoned
You only say that now because you don't have horns, if you had them as part of your body you might feel differently
I dont play tieflings alot give me a break
Would you dislocate your shoulder to put a shirt on?
While your right a shoulder isnt usually in the way. Big horns can be really annoying. If they were smaller yeah id keep however
Just put it in, donât care if it tears the shirt, and cast mending!
But again i dont wear helmets or hats for that matter usually
I physically cannot wear hats irl because of my hair
I only wear a tricorn for reenactment lol
It wasn't shade against you, just a comment about the assumption.
Dw i didnt take offense lol. I just usually dont see helmets fit for horns is all
It's usually good to look around at new things.
I suppose it also depens on how the horns are shaped and size
Since they come in all shapes and sizes
We live in a world where humans are the only ones we consider to be people, which means we don't really know what it would be like to live in a world with so many nonhuman peoples. Among those assumptions are how clothes are made.
I suppose so
Also there is art in dnd of horned people wearing helmets
Oh damn, havent seen it i usually see art without helmets so
The only one I can recall right now is a fey warrior in Adventures in Faerun
But I swear I've seen more
If you were looking to use Tieflings as a way to tell queer stories (and a lot of folks do), then âremoving hornsâ might be a really clear (and visceral) way to talk about ways queer people are often forcibly changed.
Even then, horns could grow back (you canât stop being who you are) or the donât (you bear the scars - and get still survive).
So yeah long way to say, I agree, do what works for the group haha.
Hmm thats kind of a good point
I wasnt really thinkin of it but it gives me an idea for sure
Now that's metal af
Wait are tieflings used as a way to tell queer stories?! Is that why I play tieflings so much?!
Like getting rid of the horns to look more human or hiding the tail.
But later accepts who they are
Maybe that's why I am so viscerally opposed to cutting off the horns
-# Oh man, hits close to home
/hj
Well i didnt mean any harm when talking about the horns lol
(Not sure if you are serious or sarcastic here but itâs a fairly common stereotype. Iâve seen a handful of PCs who do fit the stereotype, not enough that I can personally speak to how true it is)
Oh no worries, I wasn't actually offended or anything
Thank the gods. Last thing i wanna do is be rude lol
I am serious, I had no clue, but this is a wonderful new discovery for me
Changelings, elves and tieflings are Def common fabs among queer players due to how they interact with gender presentation, objectification and oppression based on perceived morals.
I should try making a 5e character using old school style rolling where you roll your ability scores in order and can't plug them in around
I understand changelings but why elves
I play changelings too đ
Elves are also often treated as other, objectified and nebulous in gender presentation.
when I pick tiefling it's because of fire
I like playing super cute fairies
Perhaps the meme that queer people often play tieflings was true afterall
I do want to play a fairy pc at some point, they have such a cool vibe
Ive played a fairy wizard and fairy ranger
Gotta play a Fairy Barbarian or Fighter some time
I do have a fairy ranger in mind
I built mine around two weapon fighting and throwing daggers
I am queer incarnate /lh
Elves are typically seen as more androgynous, gender fluid. Bit more queercoded based on those stereotypes.
I love Elves
Well thats a new fact i didnt know
hah! nice!
I don't typically play flying species (aside from Aasimar) in fear of fall damage
just play a monk
Aasimar my beloved
I play Knomes when I play monk
It appears that Knome has infested your brain /lhj
I havenât played Gnome yet
But I have a gnome PC idea that I might use soon
Knomes are very fun to play
though that may be because my only experience with it was using a level 20 monk
You play what
I mean based Iâm also playing monk rn
I find it kinda odd that Resilient can't be taken more than once with different save proficiencies
Speak of the devil and he shall appear
I thought it could
I will make you
well dang, that's the most creative threat ive ever recieved

thank you for the video, but i also wanna know how they do it** Online**
Not much different from doing it in person?
Are you trying to learn how to do it yourself? Iâm confused
Like, the basic game doesn't magically change from Online and In Person.
I know, im not looking for learn d&d that much more want to know how they do it online, not the game but hosting it
They usually use a virtual table top like Roll20 or Foundry
hmm
they are free?
Owlbear is used too
Yall I have a dnd question
There are a number of free virtual tabletops
witch one is better?
Why havent we gotten a dragon themed barbarian
you can ask the DMs if you can spectate but if they allow you make sure you don't disturb their game or share your advices, just watch.
im not gonna talk at all
I don't have much experience outside of roll20 but thats mainly sunk cost fallacy, its free but its a bit more limited than if you pay money. Most VTTs are free with better options for if you pay.
Because dragons are more tied to Sorcery then anything else.
My personal preference is owlbear rodeo. It's free and works pretty well. It doesn't have too many bells and whistles, which is a win in my book. It's the only one I found which doesn't try to integrate character sheets.
so go to #looking-for-players and find a game you think sounds good and ask politely if you can spectate.
So "rage of a dragon" doesnt sound cool
Also we legit have a dragon monk right there
Elements Barbarian would be sick, Giant kinda has that
Theres also drake warden
But thats more so owning a dragon
But I want a barbarian that like gets a fly speed whenever they rage and maybe a breathe weapon or something
Dragonâs Fury
Exactly!
When you rage you also get resistance to whatever dragon type you picked Its as easy as that
So why havent we gotten a barbarian themed around dragons!
Thats kinda why we don't have it though theres a lot of stuff already in that wheelhouse
You can just play a Dragonborn Barbarian
And get those same things
Im not playing a fruad
Dragon Monk is a Monk who just gets the same things as Dragonborn (with some extras)
Its like why we don't have wild magic warlock and wild magic wizard
It doesn't need to be a fraud. It can be a dragonborn who when they rage, taps into a more innate part of their heritage and uses their draconic blood to fuel that rage
I don't we think we need a subclass that just apes Dragonborn features
My personal preference is đĽ đĽ Theater of the Mind. I know many people hate Theater of the Mind, but I have hyperphantasia, so Imagining all those adventures for me is super cool.
That might be true in some games, I DM for a dragonborn who's got such a rich connection to their culture and their draconic heritage. It's awesome.
Neither would a Dragon Barbarian
I like a bit of in between. I do think theatre of the mind is great for most of the time in a game, but I do love when a combat can take place in an expansive battlemap.
You dont know that!
Know, I do kow that.
I much prefer battle maps with grids or hexes
Because subclasses don't magically turn you into a different race
Mainly because I run combat heavy games
Not what I meant
I do dislike battlemaps for more exploration and RP-based seqeunces. If we aint in combat I'd rather imagine it. I dislike the video gamey feel of dungeon exploration with a full dungeon map up.
I'm fine with TotM for exploration and roleplay or intrigue scenes but for combat and dungeon delving I need a battle mat
Lore wise a draconic bloodline sorcerer is more dragon then a dragonborn
What kind of ideas would you look for to bring a draconic theme to a barbarian?
at least in 2014 I aint sure how thats effect in 2024
There's always homebrew for whatever weird bugbear you've got with not being dragony enough.
I feel like positioning and such is too important for my games for me to handwave them in combat and dungeon crawls
that's what I do when I DM. most of time we use theatre of the mind but when combat comes I have all of the battlemaps prepared. but by combat I mean a really big combat and not one evil little goblin and two of his kobold friends.
I dont know Im not a game designer
Both dragonborn and draconic sorcerers do pretty explicitly reference having draconic ancestors (and draconic sorcerer actually says this is only one option, and most draconic sorcerers have more tertiary connections to dragons)
Made by dragon gods not real dragons
The hardest and most scary part in DND is scheduling đ
Still think its weird that they arent native to Toril either
I think it's more neat then weird
I see damge resistance was mentioned. There's precedent in Bear for that. Perhaps coupling it with a PB bonus to damage dealt of the same type? Would also need a magic weapon, most likely. Hmm. Maybe elements monk could share something. One for #homebrew, but it's sounding possible.
They just kinda fell from Abril into Toriel
Based on the text of the Draconic Ancestry feature: "Your lineage stems from a dragon progenitor. Choose the kind of dragon from the Draconic Ancestors table."
It also mentions that that's one such story, and another is that dragons created the first dragonborn themselves without the gods' blessings. They do not offer a very specific insight one way or the other.
It was hardly an accident, they deliberately moved to escape slavery
Really? I could find like no info on how they did it
I'm going based on the 2024 PHB
Which granted, isn't a novel that describes the entire history
I meant how the dragonborn jump ship from Aberl to Toirl
If anything there more so aliens in lore
Granted that would make a lot of races Aliens like humans and dwarfs as well
the concepts of what is and isnt alien gets a bit bendy in a game like dnd
Gith?
Them too
Another thing I found really weird that that in like dwarfs did like little to nothing until the second sundering
They were just kinda there
It was the elfs and fey that did the flowering after the dragons and giants almost killed each other
It was the humans who made wonderful giant floating citites
Dwarfs were just.. kinda there
Didnt really do anything noteable
Compare with Dragon Age where the dwarves were basically in charge of keeping the darkspawn bottled up until they couldn't, but at their height had a vast subterranean empire independent of the kingdoms above ground.
I enjoy gith lore but they are so... insufferable sometimes
I gotta play one
"yellow as a toad and twice as ugly"
I like that they get medium armor prof and a invisable mage hand
How do i make a bomb? Is it alchemy?
you can't really make bombs in D&D
Are you player or DM?
Player
Ask your DM
Yes you can
not modern bombs
What if i use my long rest make spell write in a book ,everytime i rest
Then boom!!
... what?
Also
âSetting fire to a container full of gunpowder can cause it to explodeâ
???
what is a "modern bomb" to you
Grenade
but I suppose bombs don't have to be Grenades
Just making additional copies of the spells your wizard already knows? It's good to have a backup spellbook. Expensive, though.
Are they talking about glyph of warding tech
Could could circle casting to make a fireball
Writing an explosive glyph of warding in spell book..
Weve been over this time and time again
The second you move more than 10ft the spell dissipates with no effects
You wouldnt be able to move the spell book
It's in the description of glyph of warding
The demogorgon has new powers
I don't think he does - not for the last few years
So if i want to use it i need to be in a explosion rage?
No, just that when you cast the spell, it can't be moved. As soon as you take the spell book 10ft in any direction it fizzles. So, you need to cast the spell and then not move the book.
You need to cast it in the area where you want explosion to happen. But you can't move the glyph more than 10 feet before it goes away.
Which can work but it requires you to lure enemies to one specific spot which is not always possible to plan super far in advance
Yep gonna use this one
Thanks
If i turn into a giant ape by using polymorph will my war caster feat will also be disappear
I don't think so, but can't say for certain.
I just was rereading tiamat lore and why does she need 3 of herself in avernus
Tiamat had three manifestations in Avernus as well, one of which never left the gate to Dis. Her manifestation as Azharul[6] was her other 'public' face used for when foes challenged her to combat, meanwhile her original body remained secluded in her lair.
Feats aren't one of the things retained when you get polymorphed so yes, it will
Can I and should I make a whole quest in one page
I have a quest idea but it's last minute but like it's so genius
Yes you could! Look up "one page dungeon contest" to see how others have done this.
How have you done it
I haven't done it myself - I'm just noting others have done it and you can get inspiration from what they've done.
Alr
Situation, location, opposition, complication.
First scene, a conflict. Move on into exploration, investigation, solving a puzzle or social interaction. Two of those scenes, then a big battle for the finale.
Guys my quest is genius
So the questgiver wants the players to catch a fairy, and then they catch it, right? Easy as that, quest over
But the thing is, once they long rest, they don't wake up in their camp, they wake up in the house of the Sylvador crime family
And then they meet the Fairy Godfather, who is the uncle of the fairy they caught
I'm a genius guys
I like it, now tell me how this turns into a quest and isn't simply an execution?
They quest is catching the fairy
The goal is to escape the Sylvadors
And they're actually in Fairy Land or smth
I'm a genius guys I deserve a reward
That seems like just a prelude.
I'm copywriting this
Is this the general chat?
General D&D chat, yes.
I love this
Rhehe
Ah I see well Iâm new. Hello
Well it's the general channel
Try not to use all caps, it messes with some people's assistive tech.
Instant ban
I was meant to post this in the dm discussion channel
Help
It's fine, not that big a deal
Oh wow I didnât know that. Thanks for sharing!
I gotta practice my Fairy Godfather voice
Iâve never done D&D before but it looks interesting. Iâll admit. I need a new hobby other than staring into a computer screenâŚđđĽš
So by the fairytale logic of the Feywild, does the Fairy Godfather just kind of monologue like a storybook villain and allow them time to escape? Or is this supposed to be a lesson about how not to trust the first person to give you a quest because you might be doing something bad to someone with a family?
Hi! Welcome! To learn how to play thereâs #learn-to-play and for any questions you have thereâs #dnd-newcomers
Itâs a big learning curve tbh, but itâs worth it :)
Hopefully⌠đ
I'll improvise
I'm willing to spend a whole session just for this one joke
Wondering if my character can still be called good aligned if she isn't really actively altruistic
Improv is great, sometimes you panic and it makes for funny moments
Tried to sneak in a Hamilton reference and my players caught that immediately
The best DMs (me) are like this
Oh yeah I panicked so hard once my party, who was escaping the dungeon of the evil church, had a dance battle with the church's cheer squad
What church has a cheer squad
Ok bro
Amen đ
my party just arrived in a new town, talked with the priest and asked for any advice, panicked and said "Talk less, smile more, don't let them know what you're against or what you're for, this town is in a power struggle between ..."
Wuh
Hamilton fan.. funny. Did they catch on?
Yes
I don't know anything about Hamilton
Clocked immediately, the Monk snickered and said "He's making a hamilton reference"
It's a musical made by Lin Manuel Miranda, it's my favorite for sure though it's off topic for this channel
Oh man what if the Fairy Godfather's house has doors that lead to different dimensions and later in the campaign we could use it to do some Peacemaker episode 8 type stuff
Why would a mobster have those?
Peacemaker>>>
Would the godfather commission them? Or do you just expect them to take over the house
I expect them to kill him and take over the house yes
They did that with... my entire kingdom
Typical
Multi-planar racket.
It would not honestly be that unusual for a powerful leader of a crminal orgnization to have routes into places like the City of Brass.
Wonder if there's a homebrew stat block for an Ashiarai Yashiki yokai from Japanese folklore
Anyone tried doing a DnD sci fi campaign?
As far as I know DND is just fantasy campaigns, but I wonder if sci fi is possible
It has certainly been tried. There are many other systems better suited though
I tried convincing my friend to let me play the Thing from the Fantastic Four
Instead I'm playing the Object
Legally distinct
I've already run out of my D&D character names
i would rather just use a different system
the last two I've made are named Don John N. Duragon and Jonathan U. Man
Anything that involves technology is probably going to fall flat with D&D
DND has been built in with built in expectations for what kinds of settings it can be played in.
Free league? Never heard of em till now
you should also check out Dragonbane heehee
I only got this idea after watching way too many Stellaris lore videos
I don't know how much...
i remember being really excited to start a dragonbane campaign and it got cancelled like a week before session only announced in the lfg and not the discord we were invited to
Pathfinder fixes thi- /joking
Starfinder does though
I loved playing Starfinder with my homies
I played a Ysoki (Ratfolk) Mechanic named "Bucket" and he had a robot companion named "S.A.K.R" (Super Ass-Kicking Robot)
They were great
S.A K.R was a crew favorite..
Well, except for the Android that didn't like machines and was trying to become human..
She learned to accept her fellow cybernetic individuals by the end of the campaign though
Can you guys give punny names for a fairy themed Italian crime family
I have the Fairy Godfather alr
Hmmm⌠I will think on this
tinker bell
Tiny Soprano
what's an underrated species for Rogue? đ¤
Goliath
Would it be reasonable that if I were a Changeling and I had means to grow to Large size I could use my shape shifting to make myself look like a large creature such as an Ogre or the sort
Like if I had Enlarge or I was a Giant Barbarian
Having the urge to play a character but not having any campaigns to play them in đ
Me with my character John Isekai
Centaur
... is this the "no one suspects the horse" joke
you can negate Centaurs inability to climb with Thief Rogue
I can't get over the visual in my head of a Centaur Druid turning into a regular horse
"peter, the horse is here"
I tried some solo DMing after some tips here to maybe not keep playing with players I don't like
it felt good to brutally die to the dice myself at the tutorial encounter
does someone know of a good solo oracle module focused on wilderness, outer plane or dungeon survival or something like that? I now feel the siren's call to play a game with limited resources and no long rests basically
