Why?
idk let me check
personally i'd skip skulker and instead plan to grab a bottle of smoke
Yep, that is why again "if the Dm let it happen" was said.
Giving a chance to a player to make his own spotlight moment is something nice. A sacrifice, a lucky strike, etc. etc.
i did not realise how much of a brainstorming mood i was in before i started writing š
I just want to know how common light obscurement is. That is all
but the player isn't making their own spotlight if the DM has to give you everything you needed in that moment
Can't rely on magic items being around
it's extreamly uncommon and harder to produce than heavy obscurement
Dnd as a TTRP cannot make rules for every situation, only broad rules. And a DM should be able to break those rules in order to tell their story, as well as help the players tell theirs
Depends wheee you are. Dim light, patchy fog, foliage, all can provide some cover
So, in a CoS setting, I'd imagine that there is at least plenty of fog and dim light, yeah?
Mhm!
And dnd already has plenty of absolute rules, which are the entire combat mechanics
Ultimately we're playing a game to have fun. I don't think it's a bad thing for a DM to ignore a few rules to allow for a cool moment
But it wonāt be the easiest, say, indoors if the lights are working
It's not chess, it's a ttrpg
Yep.
yeah but the DM shouldn't have to ignore and/or make up rules in order for your PC to feel cool.
What would be stopping me from putting them out as I go?
actrully i don't know what animals i can pick...
Nor should the DMs be able to abuse their power
That's okay. Take your time
I just go for my favorites. Frog, Toad, Giant Frog, Giant Toad. šø šø šø šø
this one's a bit harder to moderate but yeah
Thats not something absolute rules would fix
Thats not a system issue, thats a real life person issue
Well I guess that's just an issue with the system, not with the DM who allows it
Not much
And frankly, whats stopping a dm who abuses their powerā¦. From just doing it anyway?
yeah i'd like to see the system improve is all
True, they shouldnt, they do sometimes and sometimes it create such moments to remember.
That is the beauty of DnD, its felxibility.
Even better, team has dark vision and Paladin has Light
So thoughts on that being a good way to make both sides happy?
Could work. Depends on the party.
Just be stealthy in putting out the lights
Donāt knock a plate over or something
Can cast silence over an area with guards and kill them fast
if needed
or just knock them out
How does Silence work, like, physics-wise?
The silver lining to it is that I and the Wizard are quite passable at stealth
And I don't mind burning a PWT to keep quiet
Nugget! I need to find a new player. š
Yeah but it's fun to speculate :>
Does it just stop vibrations?
Make a whole area without sound, that is why in fact counter Thunderclap
That is how I imagine it.
either make a bubble and no sound from inside get outside
Or you can literally not make any sound inside of it.
Hmmm
I was going to suggest that it could disrupt things that rely on vibrations, but I can't actually think of anything that does that
so nevermind I suppose
It might work against tremorsense???
Technically it might not?
Spells dont go through solid objects raw
So technically the ground would still make vibrations
Line of effect and all that
it stop sound, that is why Thunderwave is countered by it. But beside that, its uses are either cut the spellcasting of some enemies, silence an area and take down enemies or other many things
i dont know if "power word" could be countered by it because at the end of the day, there wont be any "word" if you are under it
If you subtle spell power word kill, it would still work in silence
yeah, but that would be an Exception of it.
I mean, you cant cast verbal spells in silence period
You can with a cantrip bait an Absorb element, call it some raidant damage cantrip and then use hastened spell for cast a whole spell in the bonus action.
or some other element damage, not sure now if it can absorb radiant, but that is the idea
Gotta be acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder
If you don't use a word, is it Power Thought Kill?
Power think kills you
You
D:
Me
Friend :3
Now your 23 rats instead of 2 dozen
Awh no, feel better soon :<
Nooooooooooooo
Why would you do this š
I taste nothing, it is hell
For the love of the game
I, for one, don't love this game
That sounds like someone whose about to only have 22 rats instead of 23
22 rats will soon turn into 2200
-# okey sorry
I've got to play my depressed Bugbear Ranger today :>
Ooo fun
We're level 2 now
Obligatory ranger hate (i long for what it could be) but they really did make paladin their first halfcaster, which is the inbetween of fighter and cleric
And then decided to do the same for ranger, an inbetween of druid and rogue
I suspect that could be figured out. It would, of course, depend on the kind of dragon and its age.
i decided to be a giant space hamster
But forgot to give it ANY sauce
Adolescent radioactive blackbelt hamster?
just one carrying a dragon plague
Most metal thing Iāve heard all day holy shit š„
I love him for him
He's gonna be a Gloomstalker at level 3
yes because i can choose it. for the 2024 extra on D&Dbeyond since i have the spelljammers book.
This was a comic book at one point.
š«” youre a hero tokii. Go out and be free of powergaming
He's also got a Wood Elf wife named Thalia who loves him very much... she even made shampoo for the silly bugbear boi
Can't wait for him to inevitably die and his wife be widowed š
I am extremely invested in this bugbear's well being for no reason
Do not let him die >:(
It's because I told you he was depressed, huh?
possibly
I also like bugbears
And his name :>
is John Cena! šļø
pam panam paaaam šŗ
No it's Bogey
It is very late for me
So goodnight peoples
Bonne nuit!
it took me a while to figure out how D&D beyond Vtt works.. now i know. kind of... >.>
Heya quick question. If I cast telekinesis on myself could I fly?
youre just restrained and locked 30 feet above the ground
Creature. You can try to move a Huge or smaller creature. The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw, or you move it up to 30 feet in any direction within the spell's range. Until the end of your next turn, the creature has the Restrained condition, and if you lift it into the air, it is suspended there. It falls at the end of your next turn unless you use this option on it again and it fails the save.
Ohhhhhh. Dang.
Thanks š
crazy
Rip that idea
Oh but I mean actually.
It says āunless you use this option againā
Therefore it could work
Suggestions for arcane trickster spells, feats, magic items for lvl 8 rogue?
Personal preference: metamagic adept
Booming blade/true strike as a bonus action and Ready Action as your action
Should hopefully let you sneak attack twice per round
If youāre fighting at range, I like skulker
hey guys who wants do start a campaign (have 2 ppl more people is ok and need a dm)
Okay, so I convinced Paladin to start helping me with Bless spells
Edgy looking, slightly traumatised, canonically sailor mouthed undead warlock. Actually very determined and usually pacifistic, and she has an equally wholesome adoptive ghost mom*. ||Previously, not so wholesome.||
All it took was her telling me that she wanted to save spell slots for emergency healing
And me reminding her she is an Aasimar Paladin and playfully teasing her for trying to hold out for emergencies she is more than capable of handling
I mean, come on. Healing Hands, Lay On Hands, and a Druid with CotS Unicorn Totem + Healing Word + Cure Wounds
You had me, and you lost me.
I asked her to help with casting Bless for upcoming fights
She said that she was mostly saving up healing for emergencies
I showed her we have plenty of healing on the party from herself and Druid, and that a 1st level spell is a small cost for good boosts to accuracy and saves
I'm saying that you had me because it seemed like you approached it maturely and positively in a social way, but saying "come on" is something that could be seen as reductive to someone choosing to play how they want.
Just try to leave out the negativity. Be happy that you worked with your group, and try not to ruin that by turning it into a complaint about what it was prior, even if you disliked that prior circumstance.
I realize I didn't ping you about this, so I'm guessing you missed it.
I'm truly not trying to rag on you, as it'd literally be easier on me to not bother trying to help, but every issue you are having it largely avoidable or at least something that can be mitigated by communication. Even if the result isn't what you want, you can at least approach it in a method that has a higher chance to succeed.
yall why are there nio classes in dnd beyond
I getcha. I didn't say that verbatim
I just have a habit of communicating the idea, not the words, of things
The actual conversation was more explaining 2 good points. Those being that we already have plenty of healing
And that trying to save things for emergencies is great, but can turn into hoarding resources that end up never getting used
For that last one, people will recognize it as the "Master Ball Syndrome"
As a Pokemonian, I have used a Master Ball ONE time. The free ball in the Crown Tundra, used to catch Shadow Rider Calyrex.
When I play my undead warlock and inadvertently ritual cast phantom steed, I'll flavour it as a Spectrier
So you get the idea, hopefully. Saving up resources for emergencies is a great thing to do
The problem is, the more you keep saving up, the easier it gets to fall into the trap of saving items for emergencies that never happen
In Legends ZA, I spent 50+ dusk balls on Mewtwo instead of just using the damn master ball
In my defence, the dusk ball sending-out effect is metal
Remember guys, you all can eat something with your bonus action and if its a food made by a chef feat, you get temporal HP.
You can in fact do a Skyrim move.
I can't shove 500 wheels of cheese down my throat in a turn
Not Skyrim enough
I think I found a new favorite trope in games
"OST that is played in a bad situation, but is catchy enough to stop and listen"
Someone should rate my backstory
Lysander is a dog-folk bard who grew up in the town and city of HobbleStone after being adopted by Kevin and Nancy In HobbleStone, music is forbidden. It is not allowed. But Lysander wants music to be part of his life. When he hears music, he feels like a better person like there is something more inside him that the world refuses to let out. Every single day, Lysander would go with his longtime friend and secret crush, Milly, to practice music and listen to it in the underground ruins beneath the town. It was the only place they felt free, even for a little while.
Eventually, a group of teenage wolves (Tyler, Scarlet and David) found out about Lysander and Milly and reported them to the city council leader (Alexander similar name hmm? Lysander was sent to prison, along with Milly. They were taken away together but separated once inside.
During his time in prison, Lysander spent his days thinking about what he would do and how he would ever play again. All of his instruments and all the music he had ever made were destroyed in a large bonfire, meant to erase everything he loved.
He didnāt know where Milly was being held in the prison, or what had happened to her. That uncertainty never left his mind.
It was at that moment that Lysander knew he wanted to escape. He couldnāt stay there and let everything end in silence. He came up with a plan, pulled it off, and escaped. Since then, he has been on the run, always hiding and always listening.
But he will never let it go. He knows he hopes, he prays that one day he will see his true best friend again, and that together they will perform the best music they ever have.
Thatās pretty good
Orcs and Elves should be able to procreate, change my mind
"change my mind" is the least inviting way to start a conversation tbh. why not elaborate
well, is there a good reason beyond the gods don't want it to happen? gods are constantly being defied
also, nothing is stopping you from making a orc-elf kid
I believe thereās a name for them (in at least one setting)
yeah I dunno which seting you're even asking about
in the first place, i dont think theres anything stopping it
exandria has them
there ya go
dnd 5e
not a setting, thats a ruleset
but in any case... nothing is stopping you from making an elf-orc kid
5e is a rule set. there are a bunch of different official settings and also unnumbered homebrew settings
Indeed. Though there just isnāt an official species for it.
Which makes sense imo
I think you'll find outside of eberron there are no official mixed heritage species - and the ones that are there are there because there's a long cultural story for them
An erc
Olf
Orf
There isnāt extensive official documentation on which races are compatible or how genetics works between races afaik
3/10 Somewhat interesting, but too long for how little usable material there is, also feels ai generated.
Ai generated is crazy, Ophid š
It genuinely feels that way to me. I could certainly be wrong.
Idk why that just makes me think of an orc obsessed with orchids
If your character is on the run, why would they risk their life to become an adventurer?
One concern is a lack of drive for adventure. Why would they go retrieve an artifact when all they want to do is sneak into their hometown and free Milly?
Characters and motivations should ideally be tailored to the campaign (or able to be tailored).
I agree, if your goal is to meet Milly again and play more music, it seems thatās the end of your adventuring career with the party.
But also, why not just wait out your sentence and/or Millyās sentence? I couldnāt imagine the crime of āplaying musicā could carry a significant sentence
also, it begs the question, why was music banned?
feel like there's some juicy lore there
maybe the first arc helps free the town from whatever made them ban music all together
what is the most damage a PC/NPC can do?
potentially unlimited
how tho?
wish
most powerful spell in the game that lets you do almost anything (with the right wording and dm)
if youre new to the hobby, i suggest checking out #dnd-newcomers
music was banned? Sounds like the plot from Footloose.
A level 9 spell, commonly known as the best spell in the game
Spellcasters become insanely strong at higher levels (exponential power scaling)
Meanwhile martial classes stay mostly linear
Even in non-combat modes, Spellcasters have huge advantages over Martial class due to a wide utility of spells. They have a bigger toolbox for solving problems
i posted a one shot on sunday the 25th its currently thursday the 29th is posting a campaign allowed now? im needing to fill one spot
it hasnt been 7 days but it is a different week
It's D&D, it's fantasy, you can make it whatever you want. This system endorses that you homebrew it anyway
You only get one post a week here. You could try putting a reply in your own thread and hoping folk see it. Alternatively, hit up Roll20 or the LFG areas on the D&D Beyond forums and Reddit.
Does anyone know if thereās an alternate cover to the Heroes of Faerun book?
Just searched it up, yes it does
Good. Time to go on the hunt at the library
Why is it so hard to find one shots to play online
You checked any of the #looking-for-community servers? Sometimes they have a range of D&D games and campaigns you can join.
Westmarches in particular is a style of play where there is no set DM or group of players
I'd also look at other places like Roll20, Demiplane, etc. as they have game finding services.
Ok thanks
Honestly, I kind of wish 2024 kept things like Assassin, Sharpshooter, and GWM
I get they were really strong, but I've always been a big believer that buffing is much better than nerfing
They kept them, just changed them
And I personally liked the change to Assassin
Surprised was just too annoying for me
Isn't the main one just that instead of crits, it's rogue level damage?
But it no longer requires surprised, is the main thing for me
Just that you move before the opponent you strike
Fair
As for GWM and sharpshooterā¦Iām more divided. I will say that I do like the GWM change more than sharpshooter
Both of them aren't terrible per se
But they definitely are not noteworthy in my honest and probably very uninformed opinion
Oh GWM is still a staple
Sharpshooter is nice, but not needed
And assassin is a decent subclass
I just like crit builds. Nuff said
By the way, which would you say is more balanced: chunky crits or exploding dice?
Explain exploding dice to me plz
Roll and add new number on a dice if it's the max possible number. No limit to length
I like knowing my big hits will be guaranteed good damage
I already worked hard enough for that 20
I like the crit version of: Max damage plus normal damage rolls and modifiers
That is what Chunky crits are
Undead warlock players, who is your patron and what does your form of dread look like (compared to your normal character)?
Lord Soth, and the form of dread is a poor mimicry of him
Hello
Howdy
Hi-hi
Is there a channel here for questions on character creation?
I'm not sure if character discussion channel is the right one
i play crits like if you crit you get maxiumum damage without your modifier + double your normal dice + ability modifier
Hey guys š
#character-discussion would be the right one.. unless you want to make the most numbers powerful character then somewhere like #optimization is an option.
I wonder if we will progress in CoS fast enough to get Raise Dead to save this one dead person in time
lv3 rn, so six levels to go
Can I ask a question? Is pirate able as an background? Because my character is basically an rouge but an ex pirate
there are a lot of pirate subclasses
Sailor is a background at the very least, not sure if a pirate was a specific one though
How many?
And yeah Pirate is a variant of a Sailor background š
Swashbuckler
I thought there'd be more, but hey, Swashbuckler
arr you too can be a pirate.
but really anything can be a pirate if you put your mind to it
just gotta know the lingo and that pirate codes are just guidelines
True tho.
Be an artillerist artificer and be a smart pirate
wooden peg leg that shoots fire.
be a warlock pirate and pray to Cthulu
I mean, any subclass you could pretty easily reflavor as pirate, so you're not exactly limited there
For example one of my pirate character plans is a Barbarian with Ancestral Guardians subclass, with her summoning her dead crew's ghosts to help her š
He is a human,so...
You can also be a sea druid and lure sailors into the sea or whatever sea druids do
I dunno,I am just gonna keep it as "pirate" as the background
they collect sea junk per the Little Mermaid.
But also do note that "Background" and "Subclass" are two completely separate things
LMAO Sea Druid cosplaying as Ariel
gonna have a musical number mid-campaign
this fork? butt scratcher
Yeah, know that one. My friends are so confused and don't want to play with me š„²
the best kind of pirates have a musical number mid-campaign
We just reached the boss fight at the end of last night's session and BOTH monks are out of ki points.
Is it wrong to have an AI as an DM? Grok.
Yes, without a doubt.
yes
Not wrong but I doubt it would be much fun
even if hell froze over? still yes
Oh, suckish. Well, then I have no one to play with
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
Yeah, but, the problem is with my schedule. I have a LOT to do,such as go to tutoring, school problems, friends are too busy to play with you etc.
Objectionable to many, for many reasons.
It might be worth your time to find a good play by post game tbh
No time to commit? well here's the revolutionary tech in DnD called oneshots! for a ONE TIME session, you can play DnD for your desired time!
Play Baldur's Gate 3 or another D&D video game.
I mean,Grok is kinda decent as DM. Not trash but maybe you right
AI make terrible DMs. Please don't train yourself to start accepting machine hallucinations as quality storytelling.
I mean,I am in eastern Europe.
Oh,ok
And I'm in Southeast Asia, playing with a group in North America.
it lacks immersion
You gotta pay for grok otherwise it cuts you off early and at that point you'd get a better experience finding a paid dm
also in Southeast Asia playing with Europeans, Africans, and Americans, definitely making it work
Or play a D&D video game, you get great story in BG3.
I mean. Yeah,I dunno. Having strict parents who don't know about discord and stuff like meet. L
Just want to play DnD but my life is dragging me down
From it
But I guess I will try at least. But probably won't work
if you come in with that attitude, it won't work, you've got to try and be confident
Sorry? Did I say something wrong? My bad
But I guess you right. Probably I do lack a bit of confidence
I will try to see what I can do
It sounds like you might still be in school.. could you talk to someone about starting a D&D club?
I think they may have been referring to the fact you said "it probably won't work".
A statement like that puts you in a negative mindset about whatever you are doing because you've already told yourself you will fail.
Its like starting a journey where the map says turn right and you decide you'll probably never make it in time and turn left immediately.
I am in 8th grade but my school won't start clubs, only sport clubs
Oh,I see.
Thatās tough.. maybe there are other classmates you can connect with, outside of your normal friend group, that might be interested in playing?
I just love this gameboard. Maybe because I love creativity and actions but also strategy. So, couple of months ago I bought my first D&D and now I just need people to play with
My friends are the only ones who want but they are busy. Rest of the class are basically jerks to me (except for the girls, they are nice to me but they have no idea about D&D)
Or maybe there is a teacher in your building that could help facilitate something?
Any libraries or local game stores that might run games?
Shame that school doesn't run any other club types at all.. not even a loosely "boardgame club" that d&d could fall under?
Youāre at a tough age where you want the freedom to play, but you and your friends have to go by your parents rules and expectations.. maybe talk to mom and dad about checking out a local library or game store?
chat what's the ruling for using shillelagh-club + other light weapon for TWF bonus action
I mean, local library there is none. But yeah, means your parents will give you less freedom. Seriously my mom is very strict when it comes about talking to people online and stuff like that.
Your mom is very wise to be strict about talking to strangers online
@fossil wigeon please edit your posts so they dont include your exact age. Its against our rules to share or ask for exact ages. Ty
Otherwise i will have to delete the posts.
I used to play a bit of D&D over my lunch break with friends in school.
Yeah itās really unfortunate your school wonāt host a board game or D&D club. I know itās asking a lot but maybe if you had a teacher you knew and trusted, they could āsponsorā it?
I don't know. My parents only care about my school work. All about grades and scholarship
But I will try to find if I can do an club of D&D at my school
If it helps when you talk to teachers, there are educator essentials to help teacher run clubs like this https://globalphilanthropy.hasbro.com/en-us/educators
Though the kits are us and Canada only
Iām confused - is the āExploring Eberronā book only digital and an official d&d release? or is it homebrew that can be bought on d&d beyond?
I think it's 3rd party
Question: what does "railroady" mean in context of a dnd campaign?
I guess it's probably not giving players a choice and making them progress the story
You can buy the physical version on the DMs Guild.
You can also get it in a PDF format there
wicked, thank you!
Exploring Eberron was made by Visionary Production Design it is a third-party company, that was created to make products for the DMs Guild which allows third-party individuals to make material using Wizards of the coast IP. It is the first product that uses such IP that has been able to be sold on another platform such as D&D Beyond.
VPD, has made several Eberron books, all of which are made for print on demand on the guild. And all of them were done hand in hand with the setting Creator Keith Baker.
VPD just recently released a new book set in the Forgotten Realms with writer Rhys York and Ed Greenwood. That is part sourcebook and part novella, called Souls for the Taking: Return of Larloch Book 1
Itās Third party thatās now being added to D&D Beyond.
Many settings in DnD donāt every thing officially part of D&D.
Dragonlance and Eberron being the examples.
Websites like the DMs, Guild and drive-thru RPG have been a great boon to this industry.
Allowing authors and teams to create quality content and get it in front of users, without having to shoulder The upfront cost of supply chains and international logistics to get physically printed books on shelves. It has done wonders to lower the barrier of entry into the industry. And even Wizards of the coast is taken notice. Many of their recent hires got their start on the guild.
+1 to that!
Also shoutout to things like GM Binder and Homebrewery that give people the (free) tools to make layouts that look professional and consistent.
You can even use Google Docs to make professional looking documents tbqh.
And while 50% is very high as a royalty share to lose on the guild, it makes sense when you use Wizards of the Coast IP without having to pay for it. If you want a smaller 30% take which is what popular stores like steam take regular drive-thru RPG doesn't have that additional 20%
gm chat
Morning everyone. Hope yall have a safe day.
other tools (for art editing that is free online) is sites like Lunapics. I often use it for textures and filters, or resizing images. I also use Word Doc alot. It works.
Yup! I've also used Kleki (like an online, free photoshop) for D&D content.
There are so many tools out there for content creators. It's actually so great.
you can also just make your content for free or give all the money to a charity of your choice.
and if you're gonna give to certain charities (I believe Extra Life is one of them) then DMsGuild will back you up with the charity.
Down came the claw
Ok Mr. Disney Villain
wasn't the claw from inspector gadget?
Jokes on you: I used barrelmancy
Thatās a dnd villain what are you talking about
Oh
Its a bg3 thing
Man what a great bgm fr fr, I'd punch the guy just to jam to his bgm
who
oh, my mildly favorite character from the game.
I asked my DM if we can recreate Raphael for our next campaign, as I think it'll be funny (and it'll actually fit the lore/story he has planned), but add in his own twist/flavor.
He is kinda just a modified Pit fiend from what Iāve seen
One of my friends tried to convince me that Raphael ran hell
it depends
On what exactly
depending on your actions in game it may impact his outcome
The way Asmodeus deletes him super easily if he tried
Baphomet solos
I also asked him if we can implement a Withers system, since his campaign is planning on 2 teams of parties up against one another for some bigger mission/quest. Like a contest almost.
Even that ending where he ātakesā over he is sooo dead. Zariel solos.
Big scary item couldnāt stop 4 level 12 adventurers.
Raphael is just a half-fiend right?
xD
Yeah but he doesnāt ārun hellā
He's basically just a business man when you think about it
Yes he is a Cambion
Aren't most devils?
Also yes
Literally all devils are
fair enough, i suppose it's an over simplification
Hes also the son of Mephistopheles
yup, cambion. also he's a pushover:
you would think 666 hp would make him less of a punching bag
alas, get hold monster'd idiot
Bro gets out-action economied but this is leaning way into spoilers
down came the claw
Barrelmancy + Hold Monster + Rogue & Barbarian wailing on him = dead in 1 turn
down came 16 arrows and 14k dpr from the eldritch knight archer
wait, my bad
19 arrows
That's crazy
Do you have a link for that? I've been starting a new playthrough as a Durge ranger
so I'm wondering what are some good ranger builds.
I've learned not to diss on Rangers anymore after my DM decimated the final boss of a oneshot I made for him
I think it's on gamestegy
Alr. Anyways is ranger worth in 2024?
(he still only used melee weapons, rangers still suck at ranged fighting)
but it's an 11/12 level fighter build, for ranger you would go for gloomstalker assassin usually
which is slightly worse in direct combat but still overpowered, and it's better at stealth archery
Rangers have never been a bad class lol
Rangers are just..
Bland, not bad
you can finish any combat in the game easily without rolling initiative
For a new potential campaign I might be joining, I'm thinking of being a lizardfolk ranger
well, nearly any. some combat is forced.
They try to do too much at once which makes them fall at most things
no, he straight up evicerated the manticore up front
... What?
For example old ranger got that āyou cannot he lost by magical meansā
That doesn't mean they're bad? Lol
Rangers are good at a big variety of things still.
Like what
Just cause your good at doing very few things when another class can do even better doesnāt make you good imo
Ranger compared to all other classes just keeps getting the short end of the stick
Doing damage, being a survival expert, being a scout, being a healer
They don't lack in any apartment, they're varied which makes them good
Bro sorcerers are literally stuck at doing basically 1 spell per turn without expending very limited sorcerer points
and can't do anything else useful
dnd or bg3?
in bg3 they are the best spellcaster by a long shot
2024 ranger looks pretty good only issue is the over reliance on hunter's mark but it's still good
They can give themselves advantage on every spell they cast and a +1 to there DC save wdym
dnd
You see, that's bad logic.
Other classes COULD do something because it's their main thing
But,
Artificer, Bard, Rogue and Ranger are all Jack of All Trades master of none.
Gang is smoking something
metamagic is pretty alright, but 2014 sorcerer's honestly much worse than wizard
2024 is cool though
it's good that they gave more subclasses of sorcerer free spells because knowing like 3 spells at lower levels feels awful
Rouge sneak attack bard BUFF AND NERF Artificer my beloved
More spells really doesn't mean anything when you can only do like, 1 per turn unless you expend resources to do more
They can do a bit of everything, being well-rounded isn't a bad thing even if they're not the best at it, they're a utility class.
What's wrong with expending resources to do more?
like cool, I know over 25 spells, but I'm really only to ever use like, 4 of them
I mean the same applies to monks both of them have their own resource as their main mechanic
That sounds like a you issue as a sorcerer especially since sorcerer gets some of the most busted subclasses in the game besides wizard
what sort of sorc knows over 25 spells
Again being able to get advantage on every spell you cast for 10 rounds is still insane
True
any complaints about 14 sorc are valid though, there's a reason they got a mountain of buffs compared to wizard
Wizard hardly got anything cause itās wizard
They don't really need it honestly
if you asked me which i'd rather have in my party between wizard and sorcerer in a 14 campaign, i would say wizard without thinking
True
now i'll sit there and give it some actual thought
Yeah but again sorcerer can get access to hold person and cure wounds and basically any cleric spell in the game
The only thing that needed Buffs for Wizard were the subclasses
I'm super hyped for new Transmutation Wizard whenever it'll be coming out
Divine soul sorcerer was a work of art
divine soul has the worst case of decision paralysis possible. you still learn very few spells, but now your choices are split between two massive spell lists.
^^^
Thatās changed in 2024
is 24 divine soul even out yet?
Since all casters are prepared casters
I really hope it gets updated at some point along with other Tasha and xanathar subclasses
No they're not?
Not everyone can swap out spells on a long rest.
they only changed the wording. all spellcasters work almost exactly the same way they did before.
There are still classes that do it on level up
also there's no 24 divine soul
Draconic is still pretty good as well
draconic is way, way better than 14
They're all prepared casters but only a few still switch out every long rest. Weird change for sure.
Very
they miraculously made it not boring
Warlock got a few buffs
I understand why Bards aren't because at level 10 and beyond they'd just be the strongest caster hands down
Hex blade isnāt as worth it anymore since you can get pact blade at level 1
2024 feels way to combat focused in my opinion
It does make up a chunk of the game
In D&D Iād love to play a gritty campaign with dark themes but I want a focus on disease and realism rather than what those āpeopleā want
Truuue
the necromancer UA is so exciting
Yeah but so much flavor got removed from the game to make combat more āsimpleā
I can't believe necro might get features that don't lower my blood pressure enough to induce an instant coma soon
Every time I mention this i always hear the most disgusting vile things in the universe
People .. like players?
I can't wait to play my Warforged Forge Druid soon š
So, there's this movie...
I mean with how much stuff people "get wrong" in that simplified state already and how long it takes new folks to get into this simplified combat, having it be more complex (even if that adds better flavor) is just not feasable realistically (at least if u want to attract a new playerbase too)
Also, realism? Gross. No thank you, not for my fantasy games.
His name is Sentry and he's gonna be a bit inspired by Ramattras dismay towards humanity
give him the sentry feat for flavor also
How we feel about Warforged Monk?
It takes like two seconds to look up a rule
S'pretty neat
i would appreciate a little bit of realism, why is wet wood effortlessly catching fire
I think it's cool
Real steel beat you to the idea
Players with indecent minds every time I mention wanting a gritty dark campaign
Bad Echo, go and play your sorcerer
They're cool, many Warforged would probably pick such paths as Clerics, Monks and Druids imo
REAL STEEL
i am banning you from playing bard or sorcerer
No.
hey everyone
all I see is the "karakuri barrelMDL 96"
Counterspell
I sincerely have no idea what you're talking about, but I am also not interested in gritty or dark.
into the lava pit you go then!
I just started a circle of the shepherd warforged Druid that was slightly inspired by big foot and the other players say it is just wild robot and Iām like āno itās different I swearā
YES! I get the reference!
Iām sad echo knight isnāt in 2024 : (
yes, but with the amount of rules already in place, different interpretations potentially (that differ from RAW), RAI, arguments and also, people that dont have the DMG e.g. not being able to look everything up constantly its already fairly complex
lets goooo
Crap, can't cast polymorph on myself because I'm a shapechanger, oh the horror!
Oh the misery
can't you consciously fail the saving throw?
Technically no
"This spell transforms a creature that you can see within range into a new form. An unwilling creature must make a Wisdom saving throw to avoid the effect. The spell has no effect on a shapechanger or a creature with 0 hit points."
yall i know this isnt the place for it but my friend and i are about to run a oneshot(im the DM) and i need like 2 people
He's gonna be in an Eberron campaign after the events if Cyre being destroyed
Therefore, main House Cannith having been destroyed and warforged probably not being produced anymore and discriminated or killed.
You cannot willing fail a saving throw in dnd
oh I thought it was tied to the saving throw lol
I am dying on a hill that a warforged druid wildshaping is basically just Transformers
it literally cannot affect shapechangers, at all
for certain spells you can
you can in the description of many, MANY spells
I recommend going to #find-a-game
/forgo the ST
probably so I can't transform into something with more or less limbs
Certain spells not all tho
Especially forge druid
so a lv10 transmutation wizard changeling effectively has no lv10 feature except learning polymorph for free
Mine is for curse of strahd and is an innocent guy, basically a stereotypical Druid cause although Druids are my most played class I have not done a stereotypical Druid.
Just imagine you're a hunter looking for food and you see a metallic robot deer in the middle of the forest
I think so?
yes, and exactly that is an example of the whole "rules" thing and being "too simple", in theory yes
but the proclamation that "you cannot intentionally fail a ST" is wrong, due to certain aspects of the game saying otherwise, or certain areas differing in mechanical function
In a world like dnd id ask my self is that a war forged
I mean, let me see what true polymorph can do
Mine is Circle of Forge, so.. yeah, he turns into construct versions of animals lmao
Yeah but for spells like polymorph you cannot willing fail the saving throw
Circle of the forge is basically the transformers druid subclass honestly and that's why I like it so much
Itās so peak
nope, This spell has no effect on a shapechanger or a creature with 0 hit points.
sure, but that doesnt take away from my argument and is not really relevant
The reason I chose Warforged is not only because it's fitting, but new Warforged count as Constructs so less things effect me in wildshape because I keep my creature type š§
I have a Warforged Fighter who's backstory is that he swindles and steals from "meatbags" around him.
But for a vast majority of spells you canāt just choose to fail the saving throw
wait isnt there a stupid interaction with certain healing spells?
So again itās a loud percentage vs a very few
I intentionally geared him with Dex and thievery
Dead weight
Nope, no rules against Constructs and healing spells in 2024 rules
ah 2024, carry on then xD
Old Warforged didn't count as a Construct, I'm glad they changed it lol
Yeah they were humanoid but now there constructs
Good morning mortals
I never knew Changelings were immune to Polymorph and true polymorph, another Changeling upscale yum
I wish I had a campaign but all of them are to far from me
The new books being very free with what creature types playable species can be has really made me go wild with homebrew species
Pardon? You dare speak to me in such a tone?
You could always play online
Yeah cause they are shape changers duh
Also I feel like most of these dnd campaigns don't except people like me who are furrys
yeah :>
I am absolutely in love with Kalashtars from the new eberron book
They do have disadvantage on saving throws against moonbeam spell
Yeah I don't think that's true
You
I can say with confidence, a good part of the D&D community is FURRY lol
do werewolves count as shape changers in dnd
Tabaxi
Yes
Yes, actually
Probobly
Thereās a reason there are so many species of them after all
Iām about to cook
Yeah, that sounds pretty accurate
-# Whereās my wolf species, wizards of the coast!
Idk ware to find a campaign tho and all of them have entered fees its like looking for awfual Medicare.
Thankfully this server has its own looking for game hub
A shapechanger makes its saving throw with disadvantage. If it fails, it also instantly reverts to its original form and can't assume a different form until it leaves the spell's light
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:

It would make since for them to be counted as a Shape Changer, under the condition they go back and forth between the werewolf form and current species
Is thare a fee filter?
Iām gonna krill some wolves
Like, my characters right now:
Tabaxi Thief Rogue
Tortle Knowledge Cleric
Bugbear Gloomstalker Ranger
Dragonborn Cavalier Fighter
Harengon Bladesinger Wizard
Yuan-Ti Alchemist Artificer
I think that's pretty furry coded, though unintentionally on my behalf lol
All of the games posted in #looking-for-players are free. We have a separate #paid-looking-for-game channel if there are any costs for players.
It already is the filter, #looking-for-players is different than #paid-looking-for-game
Only if you're looking through the paid games channel
What about a location filter im from LA
no location filter, just check the "time" of the campaign
both for privacy reasons, and better scheduling
Ok sweet
All the games on the lfg channels are online anyway
Nope - for safety reasons we donāt allow folks to share too specific info - see user safety section of the server rules.
So no location filters
Also most of the games posted here are online
Well also im looking for irl
My species (with what I have and what I hope to have in the future:)
- Kobold Draconic Sorcerer
- Warforged Defensive Fighter
- Drow Druid Circle of the Underdark
- Hombrew Species Warlock-Homebrew Class (I have a DM helping me out for this to make it balanced)
- Lizardfolk Ranger (idk what subclass yet)
That's another thing
If you want local, check Facebook or local game and book stores
You could probably share rough timezones though
for irl. try irl locations
I do but they are always booked
Even local public libraries may host D&D groups
I also have
A Drow Celestial Warlock
And
A Starfinder 2e Character!
A Ysoki (Ratfolk) Mechanic
I only ever tried one and it was some boring horse rodeoh for people to bet on in adventures leuge
I have always been 13 hours ahead, the lowest/closest is 8 hours ahead
I wish I whent to waterdeep instead
I whent to the maze at universal and it was awsome
one of my characters is incapable of entering waterdeep
I cant whait till I turn 21 tho so I could pound it with like some kinda dragons blood drink
@worn lagoon No offense
Lol
Here we are now ENTERTAIN US
I just wish they had like a website like bayblade
Or magic the gathering
Kill him via turning him into a chicken and throwing him off a cliff
Polymorph a horse into an ant and feed it to him.
Iāve.. never thought of such a thingā¦
Your mind is locked beyond possibilities
Happened in a Drizzt novel fun fact.
if you wanna inconvenience someone use grease, get all the oil into it, and replace all of their cooking oil
Except it was a dude turned into a mouse and fed to a cat.
That's a good idea, have a cat as a familiar, turn someone into a mouse and make them chase
I should note he fed the guy to his own house cat.
Wizard said āyou think your cat loves you? And is loyal to you? Letās stress test it.ā Or something to that effect
Fun idea! perfect for the whole family!
Rip the cat though
My cats don't swallow mice, they just rough them up and bully them
I love how the book sells how evil and powerful the bad guys are.
Until they foolishly intersect with the main characters or bigger bad guys.
there's always bigger fish to fry
or... bigger mice to catch š
It was one of the only times we saw Jarlaxle go from silly to angry. Bro stood no chance.
Turns out an Archmage isnāt strong against a dozen guys with Counter spell
I love jarlaxle
I like Jarlaxleās 5e stat block lets him get Sneak attack up to 5 times a round
omg really?
āSorry I didnāt hear you over 35d6+7d8+63 damage this round.ā Jarlaxle probably
jarlaxle being the coolest drow as usual
Its so fun that he is the same CR as Strahd but hits wildly harder.
well yeah, strahdās a bloodsucking nerd
bohoooo, running water, now Im traaaaapped
omg someone cast daylight!!!!!! haaaalp!!!! š
ahhhh a splinter, well now I cant move bc its on a specific area of my bodyyyy uhhhh
strahd isnāt even the coolest vampire in dnd smh
aww that girl Iām in love with rejected me for the 1000000th time and now I have to sit here for twenty years or something again š
I love that nowadays its become something of a gag
The coolest vampire is the ivory prince
nah itās Astarion
The coolest one is that one vampire at the end of the hallway
he shows up, threatens to drink blood, leaves and refuses to elaborate
Well Strahd did make sure to remove the sun and big sources of running water for a reason I suppose.
hmmm. youāre not wrong. second coolest
Probably why he is a wizard too to dispel/counter any attempts too
That is pretty cool
I do respect that he just sits there on his butt for twenty years or something every time. heās dedicated
Immortality does that
you know what that makes a lot of sense
The reason why adventurers show up is because he is bored I think.
strahd should play minecraft or something
Too busy with League of Legends /jk
omg
"Force Strahd to play league of legends and get challenger", lvl 10 Spell. Sealed and prohibited
Strahd would own at league tbh
"The spell is casted. It changes nothing surprisingly."
Force strahd to play Minecraft instead of trying to get some chick who isnāt interested: level 10 spell
Also yeah eternal youth and immortality and 20 Int helps him a lot
Forcing strahd to survive with a low latin america budget (He casted PW kill on himself)
Strahd should just start teaching a bunch of warlocks. Being a patron is a full time gig and extremely rewarding when you can pick your own students
I'm not biased or anything towards warlocks and you can't prove it
Bold to assume he cares about improving other people
Strahd would be a Patron just to watch someone fail
true, he would start doing a pyramid scam
Strahd single handedly prevented Warlocks from having more than one spell slot until level 3
how
Hey im new can someone help understand the basic
You can find a lot of help in the #dnd-newcomers channel.
strahd seems oddly weak
Also we have #learn-to-play with a lot of resources.
Ok thx u
yeah if youre just looking at his statblock, hes stronger in his home plane of barovia, especially within his castle
to avoid being charmed by him
How do u join a dnd group

Compared to what? Or who?
for something i'm assuming a party of lv10 pc's will face
I mean, Strahd can kick our party's š« even if we were all level 14
i don't think you guys could take down an adult black dragon at lv20
Oh, I can beat a dragon alright
one more bard joke and you're going in the lava pit
time to get water walk
I don't think that'll save you
This spell grants the ability to move across any liquid surface ā such as water, acid, mud, snow, quicksand, or lava ā as if it were harmless solid ground
Are there any stereotypical cleric jokes
idk if my DM just makes bad choices when we fight his NPCs or if he's just being really easy on us
we got the pyramid from a bag of beans and fought a mummy lord with our level 6 party
I know it's a frail creature in the 2014 version, but he didn't use any legendary actions, resistances or anything, and spent his first turn using animate dead to make a single skeleton. Also he might not have used the rotting hand attack or he just didnt get a hit off on anyone i don't really remember
note, creatures crossing molten lava can still take damage from the heat
usually the same as "exhausted medic who is unfortunately bound by the hippocratic oath" jokes
huhhhhhhhhh???
First of all, snow and quicksand aren't liquid
Second, the heat from the lava would still burn you which is what I was talking about
So the same as the mmo healer role joke. got it
Third it's called water walk not lava walk
Why does it let you do that
that's what it says right here in the spell book baby
Yeah and I'm saying it makes no sense
I assume it's so we don't have like 5 different "walk" spells
Realism? in my fantasy game? no thank you
sorry, I'm just echoing someone else who said the same thing earlier
They should call it "liquid and also some powders walk"
well, why is it called Thaumaturgy when thaumaturgy isn't a word but if it were it wouldn't mean any of those things?
It's because Liquid Walk sounds stupid, and because you don't need 10 spells with ten slightly different names
they could call it Buoyancy which would be a little funny
On rezzing the cleric; "Now you've truely turned undead."
hey, give an apology to Smite, Searing Smite, Thunderous Smite, Wrathful Smite, Branding Smite, Blinding Smite, Staggering Smite, and Banishing Smite
Thaumaturgy is very much a word and was so before D&D.
I'm still mad at it >:(
Also, wall spells
oh am i thinking of prestidigitation then?
Also a preexisting word.
Also existed
Wall of stone is š though :c
why do neither come up when i google them š
It turns out that Lanugage Is Big And Old And Has Many Words You Do Not Know
ok tumblr
Because Google is a dumpster fire ruined by AI algorithms.
this is true
Search Engines have gone Massively downhill.
You can put "-ai" after your search to not bring up ai generated answers.
early 2000s google was the shit
it's basically useless by comparison now
only the tagged ones, but less AI is better than more
No I like wall spells they're good :>
Except for the walls that aren't actually walls like wind wall
Like, why are you making a wall of air???? Huh???????
would rather Warding Wind
Are you able to change what type of air?
Would wind-related spells fill up a vacuum?
I can't hear you over the sound of your wind. Could you say that again?
jokes on you, Awakened Mind and also Common Sign Language proficiency
No, it'd just turn into an Orb of Annihilation, free of charge. Start eating more air. /jk
Assuming you mean Wind Wall, its main use is to protect from arrows, flyers and gases. Extremely circumstancial but I have used it once when we got ambushed by about twenty archers.
Don't prepare it. A single scroll is probably all you'll ever need
Lots of spells honnestly are just better as a scroll in your handy scroll case
Indeed. It is a feature, not a bug.
The circumstancial spells, the ones that exist as a counter to extremely specific situations that you are unlikely to anticipate, are the ones best kept in scroll form
lets you have extra virtual spell slots and prepared spells for a bit of gold
After joining 2 paid campaign i still crave for more dnd. Is this a curse?
The problem is that realistically you're only buying Scrolls, because the process to make them is stupidly time intensive.
Mine caries a few scrolls of fog cloud and a scroll of remove curse
I like thinking of it that way:
Imagine a child, finally gets its own teeth. It eats a burger, it's the first time it's eaten something that's not milk. So it craves more burgers. What should the child do to stop craving more burgers?
The answer I think is that it should eat other things. The child craves burgers because the child has very limited knowledge of what's food.
Find something different?
Exactly
So you telling me to find other stuff then dnd?
So, my advice: Feed the child other things, let the kid develop its own tastes. To leave the metaphor behind: Yes, try other TTRPGs, see if that does something to the craving
ANd prefferably not more paid games. Do not hemoraghe all your cash for a hobby.
oh my lord this is a metaphor, I thought you were actually giving advice on someone on how to deal with their child in DnD
I have little to no experience with toddlers so I wouldn't know
But I do think that giving kids more than one type of food is probably good for their development.
Don't quote me on this.
Can aasimar become mindflayers?
Ah damn, you mean feeding my elven child pizza everyday is bad for them? oh no
Yes. They are humanoids.
Mild celestial heritage doesn't do much again the brain squids
Although I do have to say: The host does not become a mind flayer. The host is killed and its body is used by the parasitic tadpole as the casing for its metamorphosis into a mind flayer
Two clerics are standing on the side of the road with a sign that says, "It's not too late, turn your life around."
A man rides by on his horse, laughing at them. "What loons!"
Moments later they hear a scream. They look to each other and say, ||"Perhaps we should have written 'Bridge Out'."||
Even being non-humanoid isn't really enough to dodge Ceramphosis. It just typically means weird and nasty things happen. See all the horrible abominations, like that two headed Mindflayer Ogre thing I forget the name of.
ettin cenomorph
Or the tiiiiiny little gnome mindflayers
Those are somewhat adorable
My favourite cleric joke is from Order of the Stick where two high level clerics meet and it goes like this:
"Oh the life of an adventuring cleric. I remember it well. A perpetual struggle to maintain the hit point totals of four or five nigh-suicidal tomb robbers determined to deplete them at all costs. Like bailing out a sinking ship with a thimble most days."
"Exactly! It's like... Can't they manage to go ten minutes without perforating their aorta? Just once?"
Friends... I don't think I have a high enough INT to get this joke
The joke is that clerics are trying to keep the adventuring party alive, and the party are morons with no sense of self-preservation.
I thought it was a pun
"Perforating their Aorta" (Outperforming their quota), but that makes sense
Puns are short.
The flow is a bit odd, like it's a commentary more than a joke.
I've met some pretty tall puns
Yes, it's more of a commentary, but it made me laugh the first time I read it. When that particular strip came out.
... In 2012. Oh god, that story arc was published 14 years ago.
Being a paladin means your the parties healer, crowd clearer and heavy armored fella
I'm going to buy my coffin now, goodbye
There are members on this server younger than that comic strip, holy hell
By the gods are there that many young dnd players
yep
Go ahead, make me feel even older.
probably came here from Stranger Things
Oh this is hitting me right in the mortality.
Thankfully I just have to be the heavily armored wall who can lay hands on the actual healer if he goes down.
also 2016 was 10 years ago
Maybe. Altough some of the older could too. People in their late teens to young adulthood love stranger things too
Im lucky because our whole party is basically spellcasters.
I liked the first season, but after I watched the second one I figured the show wouldn't be worth the effort.
2024 will eventually be 2 years old
I'm told it got increasingly worse, leading up to a very poorly received finale, which vindicates me. I am an oracle.
technically already is
The show was...alright ig. Last season was just boring
the edition of DND is?
The finale sucked, or so I've heard
Show was nothing special
honestly i didn't even watch it, i figured it was overhyped and would wait until the next season and then they took too long and i was unwilling to acknowledge it
Quite frankly I've been more interested in dumb stories my 3 year old cousin tells me that he certainly made up
I'm not very familiar with Stranger Things, but everything I've seen about it disinterested me. Not my kind of thing, it feels too... meta, perhaps is one way of putting it.
impossible
i tihnk i'll homebrew new rules for spell scribing for my table
Ive read better fairy tales
Bad DM, focus on your Finals
oh come on, 3d printing for surgical applications isn't THAT hard
note to self, dont get surgery tools from this man /j
irl artificer but i print spines
reminder to never get a spine from you
Hello everyone
I am mortal, you know.
How are all of y'all doing?
Now hold on my back might need some fixing
... in the hells maybe
3d printing in the dnd universes would go so hard, imagine not needing to supply your bones
thats called fabricate
true
That's what fabricate's for
I was Dvaj the prince of wales!
Wouldnt you have plastic bones then lol
No you aren't
I did. We sent a reminder about it, but also in #1133105454495580290 message
Guys, obviously Incubus is a lich king who has stockpiled knowledge for many eons
The entire thing was in the English language
hey dumb qiestion
for my druid with magic initiate (spores) which blade spell should i get
Now, certainly, no true immortals exist. Immortality is only a word. All that exists can stop existing, all that lives can die. Every living thing has a weapon against which it has no defense. Time. Disease. Iron. Guilt.
hello smart answer!
nah, even worse, a fiend
What about a waffle house? I heard those things are strong
Study the thing, get to know it, and then you may even slaughter gods and sup on their flesh. Break their bones and suck the marrow. Drink the succulent nightmares born from their decay.
i've heard you can get true immortality from claire's, but i've never been to america so i'm not sure
I misread this as "even worse, a friend" and I was like awwww that's wholesome. but no :(
I am not a fiend, sir!
look at your name
Shillelagh + True Strike (via MI: Wizard) for 2d6+mod force + 3d6 Radiant damage in tier 4
Cause Green flame blade is good for multipletargets while booming blade is just one target
Coincidence.
not only are you named incubus
isnt booming blade potentially a lot of st damage
but you call yourself a corypheus??
Meaning someone who conducts a choir, sir.
suuure
This is literally what a corypheus is.
true strike just kiges advantage on attack though
Can a mindflayer return to their old form. Yk before they became a mindflayer
and do they not conduct a choir of beaucracy in the hells?
2024 truestirke is built different
you need to specify if 2014
if the target willingly moves
You know... I think you know more stuff like "Polymorph a horse into an ant and feed it to somebody"
nothing short of a wish spell afaik
my fault, yeah its 2014
that would end the polymorph. inside you
No, because it is not "their" old form. It is the form of the thing they killed in order to transform from tadpole state to illithid state.
When you wish upon a staaaaar
Exactly.
... ooooh
you can wish someone erased by an illithid parasite back into existence iirc
Awwww shame
Now, certainly, any disguise spell may work. Same as shapeshifting.
Then probs Green Flame Blade for the multi hit
got it
But it is important to repeat: Illithids are not people who are transformed. The illithid is the tadpole who has fed and killed the host.
they simply retain the memories of the old host
The Summer Hikaru Died character possible...
In the same way that a wasp emerging from a caterpillar is not the caterpillar transformed.
Hey... so can I be an Illithid good guy...
Define "good guy".
good, debatable
does anything change on which class i chose as the MI for Green Flame Blad
HAH! not falling for that bait Incubus!
That explains in bg3 how a certain character has all their memories as a mindflayer
but there are illithids whose goals arent world domination
I mean if their cut off from the hivemind
Mine is
omeluum was chill
Can I play a character who was taken by a tadpole and became an ilithid, now that the ilithid is now "someone" they love being human and experiencing things
Yeah but that character is also a pathological liar. Simply put: If he is talking, he's lying
within some amount of reason, yeah. You still need to like... kill Humanoids to eat, but you can still accomplish good deeds otherwise!
It changes which ability mod it uses for 2014 version
sorcerer and warlock would be CHA wizard or artificer would be INT
Again: You would be playing the tadpole.
it would be a good excuse to play a sorcerer
Oh no no not him not him, im talking ||about if karlach becomes a mindflayer||
Apologies.
Yes yes, that's what I meant
i think bg3 has sort of retconned and the host's soul lingers for a while
No its okay, hard to understand. So many mindflayers to keep track off lol
and then apparently it's gone
I figured but Green flame blade says make a melee attack
the weapon attack will still use your Str, Dex, or WIs
andthe damage roll of the weapon as well
but the damage of GFB is based on the spellcasting ability mod of the class you pick
Okay this js funny ngl
I get mind flayers. Thoughts are tasty :>
the party, overcome with grief, accepts the monster as their "friend", clinging to the idea that they did survive. "Though it looks and sounds just like Hikaru, what came back down the mountain was not Yoshiki's best friend."
BG3 did not retcon that. BG3 introduced deviant tadpoles that do not follow the normal rules of Illithid tadpoles. Mutants, pitiful creatures.
you mean the netherese magic-afflicted parasites
Watch out the fans of that character are gonna get mad
Also, dumb question, but for the druid, what stats should i have higher?
They scare me
wisdom and dex are universally good
Yeah I donāt think people realise this; while BG3 retcons a few things the tadpoles follow a completely different logic than the regular tadpoles
Iām a Astarion fangirl (Iām sorry) and even I think theyāre odd
Wisdom, Constitution, and possibly Dexterity; in that order
Constitution is the most important stat in general imo
So if i just get wisdom high, i can go Shillelagh, Green flame Blade, symbiotic entity
Eh, not really. Dexterity outranks it by quite a bit.
Hello
Yeah i getcha
There are some builds/characters that can dump dex, but dumping constitution is universally a bad idea. I do agree that dexterity is important though
My point was more that Constitution is fine as a secondary stat. Because Dex can be both your Offensive and Defensive stat and does triple duty by also being the most common save.
Do wish bg3 had more races buuuut theres way too many to add
That is fair! I meant that constitution is the most important in that itās pretty much always one of your higher stats, although itās never the āmainā stat
My Druid/Lock takes 10 dex (though she could have 12, but she eventually goes for a Barrier Tattoo (large), has Absorb Elements prepared, and sticks to the backline; so not terribly missed
I was kind of disappointed aasimar wasnāt an option
Yeah same. Had to use a wing mod to make a ripoff aasimar
I just made a human and pretended the tadpole deleted her wings or something
That works too
should i take mage armor with Magic initiate or is there a better feat-
i mean spell (2014)
She looks pretty human like anyways (her hair is a bit redder than is naturally possible and her eyes are yellowish green but thatās about it)
Oh question: what stat is the āleastā important overall
Really depnds on your class. Becuase if you've got armor proffiency's, you really don't need nor want Mage Armor.
circle of spores druid, I'm going for a melee build
Strength, sadly.
ehhhh. I was thinking intelligence but thatās important for a lot of skill checks
Which stat benefits the least number of classes.
str?
Either intelligence or strength.
For me it's Int. Sure there are skill checks. But int only benefits two classes otherwise it's the common dump.
wait, no int. only two classes need it
STR, Strength is ALWAYS my dump stat
To be fair, int is important for Eldritch knight ajd arcane trickster as well
some subclasses might need int though
And arcane archer
Why need strength if you have Finesse weapons?
we dont talk about arcane archer
Carrying capacity
psi warrior and mastermind are there
I like arcane archer š
Dumping strength may result in your character simply not able to wear their armour and backpack
Hey the UA Update in 2024 isn't bad.
remind me, carrying capacity is on for avernus?
ooh, I don't use encumbrance
Iāll say itās probably strength though yeah
You did say it was
perfect
You monster
and yall dumped it. bad of holding should help a little bit
my favorite thing is making a martial and dumping STR, taking Eldritch Adept for the 2024 Pact Blade, and forcibly converting it into a CHA class
Ngl itās hard for me to enjoy martials without playing a gish subclass or something
Not using certain rules is really strange to me. I get that it can bog down action. But one loses imo a lot of authority over things like balance if you come to the game while not playing the whole game.
a fish subclass? sounds... fishy
paladin benefits massively from my negligent feat distribution
Circle of fish druid
are dragons fish
No, dragons are chickens
If you look at old art dragons are traced horses.
are chickens fish
I had a WILD idea
Yes
so, dragons are fish
Personally, it's Fine to ignore parts of the game. People have been Ignoring disseases and whatnot for the entirety of 5E's lifespan for example
Dragon mythology likely stems from older cultures finding dinosaur bones. Dinosaurs are birds
No
So dragons are birds
If i ever wildshape with my druid. the wild shape form has mushroom sticking out of it like minecraft mooshrooms
if dragons are chickens and chickens are fish, why are dragons not fish
Because Dragons came first.
technically all life came from the sea, so all life is fish
warm-blooded, egg-laying vertebrates (class Aves) characterized by feathers, beaks, lightweight skeletons, and wings
so... yes?
so... fish are dragons
Arcane archer? What arcane archer
Can someone rate my blender monster drink photo?
yes, that's correct
Exactly. Dragons are fancy dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are big birds. Dragons are big fancy birds
ic. so the stories of carp becoming dragons are true
Yes. It is fine to ignore whatever you want.
What I mean is if you have a balance complaint like about rangers or players having too much money. Etc. Those common things.
99% the reason for those complaints is that you aren't using the whole game. Encumbrance, ammo tracking. Exploration, downtime, etc.
Yeah I think so too, as long as the DM knows what theyāre doing
Not meaning to be mean to anyone, but sometimes people will make rules decisions without knowing what thatās gonna do to the game
Everything is a fish
"Why are my casters novaing everything!"
"How many combats do you have a day?"
"One!"
Wyverns are featherless bipeds, therefore they are men
My dad calls literally every flying unit in Warcraft ābirdsā
so maybe heās onto something
He's not wrong now is he
āHey Iāve got 5 birds over hereā has five Frost Wyrms
Ah yes! I remember when Diogene went to Plato's class on a flying wyvern and did a kickflip
Huh i was wondering why i grew wings
but Aaracokra are feathered bipeds, so are they like, not men? do we quantify them as animals? or are all aaracokra just female?
Waiting
They obviously have to be plucked first
gimme a minute then
when they are feathered they exist in a separate reality of non-existence
like once? is it like a rite of passage before they're entitled to human rights or do they have to maintain that?
Aaracokra are not men, indeed. Male aaracokras are male aaracokras, not men.
Who said that beholders are a metaphor for modern audiences again
But... they're feathered bipeds... and when they're featherless... they're man
That would be me
If beholders are modern audiences, what does dragons being giant fancy birds indicate?
really? paranoid, xenophobic, megalomaniac, eyes everywhe- ooooh
Easy: Dragons are the economy. Specifically the top 1%
Average Twitter user
Oh my godā¦.because they hoard wealth,,,,,,
so if i eat a dragon. im ating the rich
It's... genius
And they have all that power but even the āgoodā ones just sit there on their giant piles of treasureā¦ā¦
We're treading on dangerous territory now
clearly none of you met sardior
Do you want to eat the rich? Come to the city of Hlodeth in the Vilhon Reach. Our Yuan-Ti citizens can secure any cuisine you want
So what are tressyms then
