expertise + +3
Ah, Skills, I see
ah, on a skill, sure
A +5 dex with proficiency
Dex is presumably 16 or 17, then prof + expertise
i prefer this over predictability of point buy atp
Min-maxing has been around in D&D since the 70's. If a player wants to have 8's in non-primary scores, that's on them. They will learn the hard way when those saves comes around
They just said skills! >->
I like Point Buy
I js asked a guy that plays in the same group so il hopefully know soon
Tell that to my first set of rolls, I just don’t want to do that again.
But I usually have players who either make bad spreads or balanced ones.
My assumption was they were referring to that in the first place by talking about rogue right after stealth was mentioned
Ah, yes, like our dear Rogue and Cleric friends
Omg why is everything so complicated in this game
The general discussion here has been over the main stat bonuses
It's really not.
Cleric? Balanced? I think not!
Because it's is still Advanced D&D, when they should have chose
Time to make some very strange stat spread for a cleric
I think I might not be smart enough for dnd
I might have bias because I just rolled once (all 6 stats) and they are like 13 in average so pretty good, and im happy.
No, talking about our Cleric and Rogue doing horribly point buy-wise.
And our Cleric had done it on purpose
It's written at a 6th grade reading level. You are.
Same
It really isn't - just make a character in dndbeyond - know what kind of a stat arrangement system your group will be using - dont worry about min-maxing. And once session 1 comes up. Have fun. You can have a +5 in every stat and skill and still roll like crap. Enjoy the chaos
Ohhhh, fair enough. Clerics are fairly easy to do point but for I suppose, as are rogues
Thx lol
The Rogue didn't do bad, but they didn't have a negative in any stat so their stats were spread thin.
our dm allowed double magic initiate so um now I have both magic initiate druid and cleric atm at level 1 fighter, lol
clerics are super easy to assign points for imo
My Fighter dumped Dexterity because I'm a Psychopath 🧐
Time to make a str based war cleric
The best way to make a War Cleric lmao
what would it be?
yo im pretty new to dnd yall git gc i may join to play ?
high strength war clerics are fun imo
Just set con to 14, max out wis and str and call it a day
depends on the domain
not a war cleric tho we have 2 fighters in our party
It's not hard to make a War Cleric Strength build
Just get heavy armor and don't worry about Dexterity, I know mine didn't
D&D is a game, where you think you are creating a character like James Bond. But when the game starts and you are rolling dice, it will become really clear really fast, that instead of Bond, your character is Johnny English.
Is support enough of a description?
realising i could dump dex with a war cleric was weirdly liberating tbh
The standard would be 17 wis/16 con/14 dex/10 cha/8 int/8 str
i mean all clerics are support. are you playing say, a life cleric? a war cleric?
so WIS > CON > DEX > CHA > INT/STR thank youuuu
I've talked about my War Cleric, Karkas, ad infinum at this point, but he was one of my favorite Cleric characters I've played and he was only for a high level 4 session oneshot lol
Just take alert and you don’t even have to worry about going last
Find a group via your local game store, ask your friends, use Groupfinder, check discord servers. You'll find a group somehow. And bam, there you go
With a little variation, this is how most clerics would operate yes
I was gonna take alert then realized 2 people already have alert, sooo I just got the double magic initiate
i dont have a gamestore and i dont have nerdy friends 🥀💔
heavy armour using clerics can switch str and dex around but yeah
int is pretty much only for very few ability checks for nonwizards, it's easy to dump
Nah, you should always take alert if you’re dumping dex, it’s so good
int is also my go-too dump for any class that doesnt use int as their spell casting ability
You know what I hate?
People assuming that an 8/ -1 in intelligence makes their character a complete idiot..
When it's in actuality, just below the average intelligence of commoners 😭
Then use any of the other resources I mentioned. The internet will connect you to other players looking for a group or to groups looking for players. Im pretty sure you could find a group within a few days. Use a LFG platform online
I’m js gonna continue with making the character and if I was wrong on sum I’ll sort it out tmrw
neverwinter nights makes you exactly that lol
yes but we cant roleplay as ourselves sooo we just exaggerate
i agree with this but i like playing 8 int characters as being book dumb
Very few?
Isn't the common commoner at a 10 stat all around?
the 4 dedicated to it don't feel like they come up as often
My Centaur Barbarian has a 9 in int, is he going to be a fool?
Nah, he probably just won't always think everything through
oh yeah i dont dump int for characters that use int skill checks
I mean if it doesn't come up with your DM, that's fine
you leave int as it is and the game makes you so stupid it makes every single dialogue in the game insufferable
yep, 10 everything with 10 AC and 1d8 attack
But, he also has a +1 or +2 in Wisdom, so I think that Balances out "Bad Int"
Your ability scores do not need to be roleplayed at all.
An 8 cha wizard can be very suave. They're simply unlucky.
A 6 str rogue can be extremely buff. Perhaps their grip just often slips.
ive never dumped int in neverwinter nights. is it fallout 1/2 level?
Yes :3
you literally go googoo gaagaa
that also happens in fallout 1/2
i feel like charisma or dex checks come up more often in most campaigns in general
its hilarious for like 5 minutes and then it gets tiresome but its a nice reminder to not just completely dump stats
Your DM will most likely check your char sheet before the game anyways. If something is wrong or off, they will tell you. Don't worry
I'd be interested in where those campaigns are, because 8's in inteligence and Wisdom means you can be treated like a drone
i mean if you're in a reasonably balanced party one person having an 8 intelligence isnt a big deal
flying around, crashing into trees?
the 6 int monk in my exandria game is having a good time
shes actualy nailed more religion skill checks than anyone else in the party
if you're in a party of 4 babarians it might be an issue
eeeh, not really? you're barely a slower learner/worse observer
I said to my friend make ur int lowest (he is a fighter), and he was gonna rp like that but his lowest roll is 13 😭
If those saves never come up, I am sure it's no big deal. That's not a sign of a character who excels in saves.
🤣 i love rping my characeters lowest ability as a flaw tbh
If it helps to frame it, even with 8 strength, your maximum lift is still 240 lbs (8 * 30) if you're medium sized.
Edit: So for other stats, hopefully it helps illustrate the "average".
yeah, an -1 modifier doesn't make you a buffoon or a wimp
he is literally SMART with 13 tho 😭
i cant believe i have 4 strength
what.
oh irl
think of it less as an issue - more of a - quirky game where you don't have an well rounded team. But even with 4 barbs, most situations can be managed. Not well, not successfully, but thats the charm. The game isnt just "No, you fail" - it is "No, but..."
i am a 2 strength character irl
maybe he thinks hes dumber than he is? 😭
naahh
well yeah i personally dont view flaws in characters as "issues" because it adds to the roleplaying
aye
real people arent superhumans
I like to imagine an 8 Strength Adventurer losing an arm wrestling match to a 10 Strength commoner
Then the Barbarian steps in...
I did not want to read the message that was sent to me out loud because the message literally called my "insolence" (well he is but i wouldnt call myself that), then our rogue persuaded me with 22 😭
And with a +5 to their strength, the player rolls a 4 and still loses
Hi, I have a question as a DM, but it's more lore-related.
A Fire Genasi Monk (player) survived a shipwreck for unknown reasons, and I had the idea that she might have been secretly rescued by Umberlee and is her secret patron now.
However, I don't know what would motivate Umberlee to do something like this, other than mockery. What ambitions drive her to have a chosen one?
I also don't really know (besides water breathing) what minor abilities the Monk with real fire hair could gain.
I'm not getting much help from the wiki pages either, except that she wants offerings, but that doesn't seem like a motivation or goal to me, since any mortal can do that.
Then they Rage, get a Nat 20 and now half the building is gone /joking
funny
That’s what my divine soul sorcerer had
This might seem like a cop-out answer - but have you discussed this with your DM?
weak of body, strong of spirit
I am the DM
Ah, gotcha
He was so frail, a stiff breeze could knock him over
That’s why he sat way in the back and cast buff spells
saint rain world
Uh guys quick question (again sry) for the proficiencies I wud have to be in the minus’s for my stats to have a zero in them right
I remember when one of my Minotaur Barbarians smashed through a solid stone wall because someone accidentally locked him out during dinner time
"minotaur barbarians" (plural)
Since the character is a fire Genasi and it is a water deity. Give them some Steam powers.
One of them.
the minotaur that hired us went through the window instead of the door for god knows what reason
one minotaue barbarians?
As in if I have a plus zero for int it wud be a plus two for like history
I've had 2! One was a Giant Barbarian and the Other was a Berserker, two different characters, I just wanted to flex I had two. /joking
Lmao
If you have proficiency for History and your proficiecny bonus is +2, then yes
in real life if you go to a gym and try to lift 240lbs you learn right way if that is accurate. lol
Barbarian*
Mockery is a good motivation tho. To take someone who is of the opposite element and be the puppeteer for them. You can play with the idea that they want to snuff out the flame in them - to quelch the fire. Perhaps there is a problem (a rival of the Umberlee) that they want to take care of, but them being of water element, they don't have the upper hand. But with their new flaming pawn, they might be onto something. Or at least they think they might be.
And yeah, steam element stuff is potential - Give them Control Water, at times. And maybe some other water element spells to access at higher levels
Dos, I was correcting myself 😭
But if I don’t have a proficiency for history only a plus 0 for int then wud history be 0
Only the ones u have a proficiency in u wudnt have a zero in
So u wudnt have like a plus two in everything if u had no negatives
Listen, if you're a Minotaur, smallfolk structures are nothing but a nuisance in your way
wouoldnt window be SMALLER
sure let's say the in-lore reason is that the door was too small for him
No, the point is, if it's made by a being smaller than a Minotaur, it's not worth their time to respect, typically
The hair, if you wanted to put some kind of mechanical benefit to it, treat it as a candle or torch. That way it isn't to overbearing and while it has an upside it has a downside.
Is there a reason why Umberlee is important?
Evil dieties historically weren't worshiped to gain something, often they were worshiped to be spared their wrath.
This character could have offered something that caught Umberlee's attention and while the ship had to be sank, her offer was sufficient to be spared.
Umberlee may also understand something about the characters future, and how it will benefit herself.
Or you could always go with the tried and true, sometimes living is a fate worse than death.
then I would suggest, The Wall.
we got Roger Waters over here
Funnily enough, actual Minotaur lore here:
Male Minotaur apparently can't differentiate smaller races/species from one another
It specifically stated males there too, which is funny to me
"What? They tiny and you tiny!"
And they called them Gaben
Unrelated, but one of my pcs had only ever known shadar Kai, so he didn’t know how to differentiate genders of anything besides elves
Which is weird because in Elvish society, Elves don't usually differentiate eachother with Gender
What do you mean? I mean, 240 lbs is a heavy deadlift for sure - but it's definitely possible.
Gender truly doesn't matter to Elves 😎
I have a stupid question, about Faerûn. A letter to me says "You need to gather men from North Region" would it be the North Faerûn or the North of the Neverwinter (Nw is where the letter came to).
He also sort of stood out, so the shadar Kai took in his village it upon themselves to explain some concepts such as this
Have you lifted a 240lb barbel?
Yes.
The North generally refers to any region to the north of the Delimbyr River and to the West of the Anauroch.
most people cant deadlift 240 pounds lol
Good. Some haven't and they will know it once they try (that was to Steve)
The only Elves that actually care about Gender are Drow...
Because it's a Matriarchal society
hence why elves are the best
It'd be the same if it was patriarchal to, probably, the reason I mentioned it is because Drow actually seem to 'care' about the gender of their leaders
It was even funnier when he met a pair of Dragonborn, both of different species, and he assumed they just had fancy colors and were related
They'll know... that it's heavy? Sorry, I'm confused lol. Maybe I should just drop it.
It's good to keep in mind that while it's fun to compare D&D stats to real life, D&D does gamify stats and the like for the enjoyment of play, rather than for real-world accuracy
most people cannot deadlift 240 pounds especially without trianing
yeah cuz its heavy (drop it loool)
Elves in D&D are truly whimsical and chill beings
personally i like having canonically 4 strength
nah im better
Sorry, just for context. This whole "8 strength can still lift >200 lbs" was just to help folks realize that 8 intelligence is not like... a huge difference from the "average".
I did write it in, but I assumed the shadar Kai might’ve had a more matriarchal society due to the one they followed
I wouldn't say all Drow are Matriarchs, just those within that certain clan. Like any creature, if they aren't born in that group, they can be anything else based on the environment and people around them
i wasnt trying to be rude lol sorry about that! im just clarifying what they were talking about
Except for halflings. No matter where they are born, they are chill dudes
Shadar-Kai and Drow are both incredibly different Elvish beings,
Shadar-Kai are typically very apathetic beings due to the plane they're found in
Where Drow are sometimes very zealous in their worship
eilistraee my beloved
Shadar-Kai in older editions also used to be Humans found within the Shadowfell but for some odd reason they changed them to elves
ello
I think it would've been more interesting if they kept them as a human variant tbh
can a lvl 13 party of 7 beat a cr 16 boss?
Last i checked most drow, not all, but most drow live in the groups that follow lolth and therefore follow their social system
That’s fair, that’s where my hexblade aasimar grew up, and he very clearly stood out
did you know that many halfings in Eberron are dinosaur riding barbarians and hunters, while many halfings in dark sun are cannibals.
(possibly a modified planetar)
What would be a good rival? Sry I dont know much about the deitys, I am new into DnD.
I’d say yes
Possibly. It depends on what kind of classes they are and what magical items they have, and it depends on the Boss and their abilities
Fr. I played a character before with a -1 CHA and my group reacted to it as if he socially stunted. Like he isn’t gonna get backstage without a pass but otherwise worst case a little awkward. Which (un)fortunately I can play well
danke
True, Elves never do anything messed up
Well..
Majority of Elves are whimsical...!
I prefer to focus on the somber journey to earning rebirth
Lolth worshippers want to have a word with you
Whimsical isnt my thing at all
Lolth worshippers lol
Imagine worshipping someone who can't get over her ex.
There are a couple of bad Elvish groups, but you can't let them tarnish elves name in whole!!!
Mhh only because the player got drowned and I thinked about BG3 Umberlee in Act3 and Mighty Nein Ford Patron.
Thinked about she died in the ozean (she has also fear of water) and Umberlee gived her life back, so her life depends on Umberlee alone.
Its not important, but well thinked of that in a way for some time.
Wouldnt be a good patron super boring? I mean giving her a secret plot about a evil dity is super spicy and keeps good stories.
Drow are misguided anyway, I wouldn't say it's their fault
i have no one too play with so how do i be a dm for the first time without being embarrased
You just do it
That’s why I love the seldarine
Watch how other's DM on Youtube
Real ones, not the actors reading from scripts
Out of curiosity
I have a question can you make a psi fighter with int as the highest stat
You sure can
I have been wanting to make a charcter that presented themselves a certain way yet acted another and I think a faking people out with a high strength high int fighter seems cool
Unopptimal probably but idk it seemed cool
I mean, yeah, but it'd probably be better just to have a high physical stat with it
Keep in mind you'll have some trouble
Yeah but that isn’t as cool I was just curious is there was any gameplay restrictions behind it
Ie a 18 int and 16 strength
As it's designed around you pumping your main stat to a max and int to 16
Well, one is probably not being able to hit as often as you want at the given level
👋
Maxing out int can end up being a waste of your feats too
Ehh true but who cares when you have a awesome concept of a old man psi fighter
Well I've seen when concept means burden on the party so keep in mind a Fighter is meant to Fight
Heck, I'd assume if hes an older warrior he'd probably be pretty good physically all things considered
Especially if he's kept in shape
And your combat abilities do rely on strength or dex to actually use them since you need to hit with the weapon.
I mean I don’t plan on making him bad just think it would be cooler if his highest stat is int even if it makes him slightly worse plus Psi fighter scales off int
guys what is hit dice spent and max I have no idea what is a hit dice help.
A couple extra damage in exchange for hitting decently less
If I really wanted to be optimal I would do a 18 in dex instead of strength since dex is just better in every way and bump down int to 16 but that’s less cool imo
Strength is still pretty viable too, you know lol
Strength builds get higher damaging weapons
It can be but dex just gives you a ton of perks with a very slight damage reduction
Do it, the only reason that matters is you want to
That can be negated by taking the dueling style
Nah, Strength all the way
Long as you're not burdening your party
It’s a game, have fun with the game lol. You don’t need any other justification
Ty paladin fan you get I was just curious if there was any gameplay restrictions
Just don’t play like an idiot
My dual wielding Paladin was still a strength build smh...
Nah, you'll just have less chance of hitting enemies
As a fighter you'll be able to get both Strength or Dexterity AND your intelligence as high as you want, eventually anyway
i mean i guess but wouldnt you rather have some more feats
If they're pumping int there's not many int feats they could use
As int feats are geared for casters
It'd be best to just ASI int to 20
what for
hi
They're a Psi-Warrior, Intelligence is their third stat anyway
i found a pretty cool map maker on deviantart
Oh?
Do tell
Do tell
im not sure i can post links here but their name is greaterhtrae
they've got game maps, exoplanet maps
like they got everything fr
My spidey senses are tingling
what did he mean by this
idk, u sound like ADVERTISEMENT
My senses hurt, agony! Arghh.
but my insight is like +1 at max
I don't think it's Lilly's intent to advertise lol
i dont advertise i just thought it was neat
They're just sharing a tool they found
lilly did not feel genuine tho 😭
was googling exoplanets and stumbled onto their profile
For some people half the fun is the map
-# I am not one of those people
yeah you are Nugget
Hello not one of those people, I'm Echo
If we want to talk more about it, we can go to off-topic, but if you have a group that likes the map, using a map making TTRPG like The Quiet Year can be a great way to kick off a new D&D campaign. 👀
Are you a people?
Can a person become a warlock by having their patron be sealed inside them or fused with them, without making a deal?
Sure flavor is mostly free and that sounds close enough
Alright thanks!
Always run it by your dm
would a stealthy ranger be good?
yeah
I have a ranger with a longbow and a shortsword, focusing on stealth, but their spellcasting ability sucks
...what stat did you even invest besides dex/con/wis?
Strength
Gng do barbarians not have armour so no armour class
it has 7 intelligence and 8 wisdom give me a break
Hey guys
Hi
lmao dang
it's for a different campaign where we start at level 3
already found another campaign? your drought era's over
Have any of you guys played in a setting where you travel by water with an engine?
Bc in equipment they don’t have an armour
No this was the campaign I found before yours
oh they finally got around to doing smth
We FINALLY settled on a date, it's starting in 30 minutes
Barbarians have a feature called unarmoured defence where their armour class is 10+dex+con if they are not wearing armour
Like a raft with a motor engine or something
oh heck, good luck, get guidance'd
my spell save DC is 9
swap str and wis smh
Omg tysm u saved me from so much confusion
yeah I think I'm gonna do that
HEH. Where’d your wisdom go lol.
most of us in that game are also in 2 campaigns, i run one, grudge runs his
Also they are proficient in light and medium armour if thats what you mean, they don't start with armour in their inventory however
i think next session before we continue ours grudge will run his and i'm looking forward to being a player again
it's FINE I switched strength and wisdom... now I have 11 spell save dc
bruh
I miss using Charisma for my spells 😢
Ok that’s…
Still bad but it’s infinitely better
Also characters still have a default AC even if they aren’t wearing armor and have no other features that give a different calculations.
Your default AC is 10 + your Dex modifier. Other features and armor just provide different formulas that you get to choose between. Yes this means that if you wanted to use a lower calculation you could, but you never want to do that
My ranger is just gonna hide in trees and snipe people
Yea that’s what I was confused with lol
Gloomstalker?
Hunter
Reasonable
Ohhh
I'm poor and cant afford any digital books for DnD beyond right now
Hi poor, I’m Hi, I’m Nugget
you forgot my middle names and last name
anyway believe it or not this is actually not my weakest level 3 character
I believe it
I think I do the opposite of optimization
You make a paladin monk?
Finally finished my character
Isnt lvl 1 dc like 13-14
12-13
Ah, no worries there. You don't know the history of the kingdom, you prefer instincts to logic.
8 + 2pb + 3/4 spell casting stat
oh my god 😭
Did you share your character sheet anywhere? Curious what it looks like
sure I'll send it in #character-discussion
Does the undead warlock do well as a necromancer?
DC 12 is enough for the early levels, just get that ASI at level 4.
I'm unfamiliar with the term
Ability score improvement
Asi is ability score improvement
ohh, yeah
At level 4 you can either choose a feat or that
I usually choose the ability score first and then at level 8 take the feat
Just get a 20 with your 4d6drop roll ez
Thankfully 2024 has all half feats now
Isn't it 4d6 and drop the lowest?
Yes
I genuinely think it’s one of the best changes they’ve made
Yes
Max 18, +2 from background or species
I'm playing bg3 rn and the feats not giving asi is really bugging me
Ohh right
Good thing you can cheese a bunch of stat bumps in that game anyway
I think I've dodged every single one of them so far, but I'm only act1 so there probably haven't been that many a paladin could take
Most of the cheese stats are in act 2 or 3
Alrighty, I'll be on the lookout then
Although, you can always get the club of hill giant str and dump str
is Absorb Elements good?
Just gotta know where to find it in the Underdark
Yes
thought so, it was the only level 1 spell from Ranger that really stuck out to me
that and Cure Wounds
Zephyr strike isn’t bad
I can't enter withers because of a little…accident so sadly can't respec anymore
Uh, thats gonna be a problem
Is oathbreaker that bad?
No, it’s pretty solid
Phew
Withers should still deal with you even if you broke your oath
I dont have access to that as that is paid content
He doesn't allow to respec
Weird, you can always just pay to reinstate your oath
Can always manually add it, if your dm lets you
I'm not dishing out 1000 gold to get my oath back for a couple more days
Tbf, gold is extremely easy to come by
Maybe...
So far I've had a bunch of gold but there's more items i want to buy then the amount of gold i have. Might just be act 1 stuff though
Oh, you’ll have thousands of gold well before the end of act 2
Might be the best place to discuss BG3 things
Alrighty, thanks!
can you cast Hunter's Mark on someone, then hit them with an arrow, and then use ensnaring strike?
No, because both are Bonus action
The session is about to start and 3 people are missing 😢
Dnd lowkey is the reason I met my gf so I gotta be thankful for this game always.
Even when I roll my 20th nat 1 of the day.
hell of a love story
She is my dm lol.
not only to someone you play DnD with but with your Dungeon Master? you must've rolled a nat 100
i havent played dnd ever and i only know becus stranger things it looks boring
it's a fun game when you get to play it
I GENUINELY used dnd rizz on her.
I ain't even lying 🥀
back then was she still your DM
She still is my dm.
she was your DM from the start? 😭
yeah but i feel like a learn how to play dnd is like 1 hour long
Campaign is still ongoing lol.
1 hour long vs years of games
Thats how we met.
"Can I roll to seduce the DM"
true how long do games usually last
Months
Months if not years
I mean basically yeah, all the members are chill abt it.
also you can learn while you play
Can be shorter tho
Oneshots yeah
Or short campaigns.
Can last around a month depending on how many sessions you can do
i feel like it was fun in the 80s because they didnt have anything brtter to do now that we have actual games whats the point of playing it ykwim?
Eh?
that is a very narrow view of it
We will be dating 2 months in abt 1hr 20 min.
Congrats
They played it back then because it was enjoyable, and it still is enjoyable even with modern technology, hell Modern Technology made it even more fun
I mean soccer has been around for 100s of years still is a good sport.
I mean 5e is arguable better than 1e, bunch of new races and classes.
ill learn abt it just to educate myself on it and ill play it
I don't think anyone's arguing that 1e is better than 5e
Plus also new tech like owlbear, incarnate, hero forge etc makes it 100x better.
Also more accessible too.
Thanks dude.
How good is a Halberd on a Fighter compared to other two handed weapons?
Can someone tell me why our DM just left right before we were about to start our one shot and then made another post on this server saying if anyone else wanted to play the exact same adventure we were going to go on, btw don't go on "ghostings" or "nates" adventure as he's the one who ditched us
Tis fine
The best part about being a composer and a DM is that you get OSTs for your campaigns.
How can I..
You can search it up and then add it to your channels
There is a search bar just bellow the server name I think
Anyway, if you're interested... heh. I don't charge, it's fun being supportive.
Type /looking-for dm
His name being ghosting is the cherry on top.
No I mean it literally says I don’t have access
I know
I added all channels
That's weird
Ye
Did u check the channels and roles section?
Yep
Clicked add all too
My favorite part of D&D is that you can make a completely stupid character and have them have the best storyline ever.
Another dude said I could join his campaign with my gf, leveled up my character rolled stats and got added to his server, just to bloody ban me and my gf and block us without a word.
Type /looking-for dm
No one can speak in those channels directly, only through bot posts
damn-
its under the find a game category btw check that in the browser?
Can I make a furry character? And name him Tails the Fox
Its dnd make what u want.
probably
Fact
Wait which one is for posting as a dm
i had a friend who played a dino in a top hat-
Also thank you
My fave character i play is a half robot half human alcoholic.
how does that even work?
I was thinking of making a skeleton... that tap dances.
But also this
HAH hell yeah do it
DEFINITELY A BARD
So, cyborg bender
Bit of homebrew he can mess with electricity and also has a keyboard on his back that allows a player who has a mute character to communicate.
I think making a character should also have thoughtfulness for the world the dm is running and the tone of the story instead of always just what's silliest
Yes, even as the lord of goofy 😔
Whatever he types on the keyboard he projects from his eye.
It should primarily be this.
beat them with the tap of all dances
oh thats actually so cool
Alcobot fits in all stories.
Characters should make sense in the setting they're being played in.
He dances and makes the ground tremble, summoning an army of dancing skeletons and the dragon tap dances with them all
That's not the point I'm making.
thats why one should always consult the DM about "silly" stuff cause they really have all the right to say no
I can't see them fitting into any of my campaign worlds.
Oh, correction, I thought it said Alcohol
No, an Alcoholic Cyborg does indeed NOT belong in every story...
Yeah alcobot isn't really silly persay he js is an alcoholic as he lowkirkenuilly watched his parents get slimed out when he was 10.
Don't worry, silly characters fit into all stories if you like making them die in the most ridiculous ways.
I have absolutely no idea what you said here.
That's.. not true either?
Ion think he's considered a cyborg cuz he was born this way, mother was robot, dad was human.
No. If the table agreed to a serious tone, your silly character doesn't belong.
Not every story needs a comedic relief or a silly character
I'm just jkin dont take me seriously
I also have my own serious characters 🤨
How in the world am I supposed to infer you weren't being serious?
I personally think Comedic relief ruins a majority of stories, but that's just me lol
Sometimes it's fun to have a silly character that will js become incredibly serious when needs be.
Because the opinion in question was indefensible.
The only time silly characters are fine is if everyone agrees to it, and it still would only be fine in a one shot
We get that a lot here
Like when a comedy actor plays a serious role lol
I personally love seeing the comic relief character snap.
Comedy is fine. Comedic relief isn't even funny.
then you know its about to go down too is the fun part
Any fans of Wizardry 8?
And... ? A lot of people say wrong things and believe those things.
woah comedy is subjective
Please reread what I said.
EXACTLY... y'know it serious when the 2ft tall artificer all of sudden has a bomb in someone's face.
Nah the fairy snaps lol
Are you assuming smallfolk can't be serious? Smh.... for shame! /teasing
Im 5'5 irl lol.
That's not smallfolk height
Imagine how funny that would be tho. A fairy snapping and all you hear is small high pitched squeaks
Smallfolk are beings under 4 feet of height, imho
How small is small folk height ?
-# average height is 5'10" in the US for men
Because you'd be considered a medium sized creature in D&D smh.
Personally, I have a character who is a paladin, a paladin on a path of redemption, since he has a dark past. It's fun.
5'5" isn't small. 5'2" is about small medium
Im not in the us nor a a man.
I didn't say you were.
can some dnd nerd larp with me
(Im a teen)
Cool
Wrong reply lol.
Redemption Arc for being a teenager
Cool teen
I meant to say i have a friend who plays a paladin who's sole personality is based on knight books he read when he was young.
Whats a cull
we doing a cult
Dame?
Don't worry about it
Im gonna make a hobgoblin paladin, raised by paladins when he left his tribe as a 14 year old
According to the US center for disease control the avergage heights for men is 5'9" rounded up and 5'4" for women rounded up
Anyway i worry so talk
I owe no explanation to you!
I'm the GOOFY one.
Make him have an excessive weakness for pies in the face.
goofiest*
Gorsh.
No, I'm the embodiment of Goofy.
Not just the goofiest.
One pie in the face is like kryptonite lol
Tell your buddy donald to heal me please.
A-hyuck! And I'll do it again!
i can def imagine that LOL
Real
I've never played a small species, my closest was Dwarf but they're not small
Small dog energy.
Like a chihuahua.
Wait, I've played a Kobold
One who was actually a deathly serious Barbarian.
small serious energy?
The party actively tried to joke around with him but he firmly ignored attempts at humor
It's fun
The constant terrain hazards caused by 2ft of water is fun and I'm not even being sarcastic
did they start a betting pool on who can make him break first?
No, they couldn't, he was a lad raised by some mean damn giants
(His egg was offered as a tribute to them by his parents, but he hatched before they could eat him, so they kept him as a pseudo-son / pet)
LOVE...
He was even raised with hatred of dragons
I play an endlessly patient autognome in my Sunday game he's only threatened to punch someone in the gut once!
He was probably the meanest spirited Kobold I've ever seen as a character, he wasn't cruel, but he was a man on a mission to kill a Dragon so his "Father" would finally accept him as a "Giantkin"
Was he a path of the giant barbarian..
Indeed.
Really good...
He was only Path of the Giant because obviously, growing up, he was pretty well exposed to Giant magicks
Yessss
My Minotaur Giant Barbarian was a Giant Barb for a different reason, more so metaphorics as he viewed himself physically and mentally bigger than other people
Oh that's really good
He even learned to wield elements (Giant strikes subclass thing) out of spite towards spellcasters
Amazing...
His rage didn't manifest as Anger either.
Just Pride and Strength, a primal connection to sense of self
My newest character is , on paper, a vampire werewolf
BUT!
But.
Not really.
He's Dhampir/Order of the Lycan Bloodhunter and he's reflavored to turn into a hideous bug monster every day that he can't dismiss for an hour
I just created a new setting and would love to hear your thoughts on it.
He was originally a sub-level 1 adventurer in a guild tasked to fell an evil presence threatening their settlement.
Unsurprisingly this was a higher challenge rating foe than they anticipated and most of them died. He sold out his remaining guild member for his life to be spared and then the Bad Guy turned him into a Dhampir bug monster
Might fit well in #dm-world-building
Love when rage isn't represented as anger. It's easy and the go-to, sure, but it's also a lot of fun to do other things like what you did.
Anyone here familiar with full metal alchemist
hi all, started playing ddo today and was wondering if it's possible to bind block to mouse right click?
Not my friend talking about how his spell save is dc 24 when I'm planning to throw a terasque at them
Either he has some crazy stats and magic items or spmething is going wrong
He's a lvl 20 bard (lvl 20 1 shot) so it's definitely he just put an insane amount into cha
is anyone down to play dnd friday be the dm with ppl who have no experince at all
or did i finf someone one of a kind
If you'd like to use this server to find a group th instructions to do so are in #find-a-game !
A level 20, 20 Cha Bard will have a save DC of 19 so they're getting an extra 5 either by miscalculation or items
Stats and levels only get you to 19, other then that its magic items
Plus NGL I didn't like most the other members.
U like me tho?
Barely.
My entire search history is crammed with various "La Llorona _____" because I had a warlock idea and wanted to know if anyone got to it first.
Probably
La Llorona, that horror film, right?
Hard to make a 100% original character
They are lowkey strange
Im sure you could do it, but its probably gonna be a really random character without any real coherence
Hey, I'm a new DM making a homebrew campaign, any tips?
Focus on the big picture for your preperation, let the small stuff come more naturally
Schizophrenia helps make memories.
And if you ever wondering about specifics or idea crafting try #dm-discussion
Please make sure to use #find-a-game for soliciting games! Just warning before mods step in
And if one of your players says "I have dark vision" spikes are the answer.
"i have dark vision" yeah idk FLASHBANG
Most species have Darkvision, it's not super hard to deal with, if you need to at all
I ain't playing with u bro.
ok fine. But why...
Introducing * magical darkness *
Ik but when u describe the room being dark and they interrupt with I have dark vision.
Then spikes are Ur friend.
Also darkvision has its limits, both in range (unless twilight cleric) and color vision
No one is obligated to play with anyone else for any reason
A blinding light source serves the same function btw
Ngl was just curious.
That feels like a respect thing that should be discussed in Session 0. That's how I weed out most problem players trying to interrupt my BBEG monologues
Yeh but thats not darkvision exclusive
If a light is blinding it blinds both people with and without it
Also works for players interrupting others in general, including me when I DM
Heheh Except for the blind.
Playing a blind character has its own issues
Tremorsense or true sight but those usually have really small ranges
Ngl must be fun.
Sorry, blindsight not true sight
No, can you imagine having perma disadvantage on every attack
It can be fun but hard. And that assumes you're playing to RP someone with a disability not just for the aesthetic
Yeah, the fun part of roleplaying is getting into character who isn't u ig
Was that already part of the room, or did you just throw that in there because you were irritated?
Thats a good question ngl
When in doubt, falling rocks
Welp, if you dont have other ways to justify his "sight", like toph with vibrations, some sense of "magic" in creatures or whatever else. Yeah, you wont have a nice time
"Or you can make it have poisonous skin."
can make it like the serpents that use hte tongue for smell around them
Can make it like some bat using echolocation
There is lots of ways, just even heat is enough to use it like a sense of direction
Its just that i dont think that a whole black map would be so entertaining for a player
Theater of mind maybe, there is no problem
Yeah it sort of wraps around to using blindness as an aesthetic. Blind characters can be super fun to play but if you're immediately turning around to find mechanical ways to ignore the real downsides then there's not much of a point.
The work around can has its uses. The example of toph with 'tremor sense' is a good one because her blindness isnt really invalidated
Its all about how you roleplay it imo
Or you can make it have its disadvantages, it would still be fun.
I found a crazy exploit on a DnD version we are playing at my school in English class
If anyone wants to know
Exploit how
Which D&D edition are you playing?
It's a battle royale version, but not like regular DnD
I'm not sure I follow
Sounds suspiciously non dnd
There is no official "battle royale" version of 5e. That seems more like a campaign style than an actual edition
Well it kinda is, we got a whole powerpoint on it
I can make a powerpoint saying donald duck invented dnd
probably, but I found a exploit that makes me invincible
Are you sure it's D&D 5e? Or any D&D edition?
Lets hear the exploit, we'll figure out if its from actual dnd soon enough
Feel free to post the exploit, it may be interesting to see what mechanics are interacting outside of literally just casting Invulnerability
Unsure, I can send yall the info
You can post it here as long as it's not a huge wall of text.
hey guys im new here as my tag says
If it is you should either summarize or post it in a google doc and send the share link to it
Yeah I can do that
Welcome! If you were looking for resources to learn D&D I suggest checking out #learn-to-play and #dnd-newcomers
ye i was thanks where do i find games after learning how to play
I can just do it in dm's if you want? it will be easier
The instructions to use this server to find a group are in #find-a-game !
alrighty
aight thx man
Ur so cool...
Serious question, what class would Mario from Mario Bros. be?
Probably a fighter
Monk
That's a good opinion tho
Honesty he is what ever the writers want to make him
Do undead creatures get any buffs or just weaknesses
Yeah and Luigi? Prob a mage
Because like the late great Stan Lee said who ever the writers want to win will win
Any story with batman
I mean look at death battle the fight with Ben 10 and the green lantern
The green lantern wouldn't be able to touch Ben
Real
Benjamin Kirby Tennyson
Would defeat most of the league
Only really having a problem with Wally and wonder woman
I love how the concept of Ben 10 is respect for all living beings.
yep, something kinda related i saw one time is a player that wanted to play a kind that is in fact, a giant insect humanoid and it couldnt talk
It got like tons of features and then i told him," what is the downgrade to this? what is teh "bad" thing from taking this one?"
Grandpa Max It represents me.
Grandpa Max was putting belt to ass
He's THE MAN
Because, yeah, it couldnt talk. So i guess it should find ways to talk, like telepathically or smt.
Solved
I would add something like, "you are a completely monster, so people if see you directly will get scared" because it said "monstrosity" in a section of the description
Skeletons are immune to poison.
Skeletons should be experts at dancing
Especially tap dancing
Fact.
Any other undead creature you can play?
You can't actually play as a skeleton unless your dm allows you to do that kind of homebrew.
I played as a ball with arms and a sword soooooo that was fun 😂
What do you consider a buff?
Anything that improves the enemy via extra dps, resistances, or immunities pretty much
I just said dps instead of damage
Features that give them extras like more damage to unarmed attacks or just free things like dragonborns having a fire breath
immunities like, again, dragonborns
Dark vision
Speed superior than 30 // 40, less problem climbing
Ah
I like Dungeons and Dragons
When I think of buffs I think of something external giving you extra damage or something else.
Like Bless etc
Me too (never played)
Same (play not enough)
oh my god what a session
Guidance, bless, enlarge reduce, holy aura, paladin aura stuff like that
Have not watched it so pls shh
I meant my session 😭
Oh
Was it good
... it was fun
Ah
I thought my character was weak but I ended up being the MVP
Will it be good?
Someone touched a cursed item
Maybe, I don't know 😭
How many terasques could a level 20 team of 3 beat
it wasn't professional but it was still fun
It's good but there are other good ones out there too. Don't limit yourself. I remember TSR used to have superhero , Western, Post Apocalyptic and Futuristic RPG's
Depends are they power builds
Masks is also a fun one
It is good?
I think the highlights of the campaign were at the start, we had infinite freedom with no narrative, and I got eldritch blasted off the bat
Not really ik one is a creation bard
Yeah I thought my barbarian ancestral gaurdian was weak. Until he reached level 14 and got that capstone. Then his damage output became incredible. I like playing support so wanted to play a support barbarian. He def lacked toughness like totem. Didnt have dps like the others. But after 14 he became a real dps support tank
My party skinned goblins and took their heads.
Then id say maybe 2
Random stat PC's lose every time to a single Tar. You aren't beating one unless you knew ahead of time and built for it.
What did he take for level 18?
Shapechange?
Ah typical behavior my machine just ate all the enemy swords and the rangers arrows
welp, yeah, it can be taken like that.
we use like base race the humans
no dark vision,
+2 to any stat
Free feat
In forward of that each race have like his "idea around"
Orcs tend to be martials//fighters
Elfs relate a bit with casters
ETc. etc. not meaning you cant make an Orc that is a caster or an elf that is a barbarian.
Ranger Hunter is SURPRISINGLY good
Fair
and the goblins were stupidly tanky.
My first character was a Goliath druid
Also they just had to piss off the goblin queen and start an encounter that lasted 2 hours, where half of them died immediately
From magical secrets?
Yes
Fireball and wish
LMAO
we didn't even defeat the goblin queen, let alone her henchman, but still we survived, barely
What makes bard top 5 for me. If they dont choose amazing spells then it can go very much lower on that end.
My healer kit was used a lot
Rangers are a good class. I don't understand why there is so much hate on them. They were good even in AD&D 1e. Albeit you didn't get spells until 9th level
Horde Breaker is so good
I cant blame the wish spell... shapechange is hard to pass up along with true polymorph. But wish is wish
I can't wait until I have a gun
yep, it is.
Had played it one session and the extra 1d8 of damage feel really nice, later it get some features that turn you into a serial danger
I mean I've never really played one. But the gloomstalker wisdom saving throw profficiency at level 7 enticed me
combined with Ensnaring Strike
i have one in the campaign im playing that ranger hunter, if i reach lvl 11 i can whipe out a whole group of enemies
He did make the mistake of telling me exactly what he's going to use it (he is going to make a button that whoever presses it gets a long rest and it has two uses) and I will be abusing how he worded it
didnt used any offensive spell, considerating taking zephyr strike for the always advantage on attacks
Helped one of my new friends with a speed based character, it was insane, he was running 10k mph
So with that you can have up to 4 saving throw profficiency when you normally can only get 3. Unless you are monk, Trans wizard, gloomstalker
Why do rangers get such a bad rep? I wanna try one but all I hear is they’re awful
Gonna use wish for long rests?
I do not have access to Zephyr Strike unfortunately, since it's paid content
Rangers aren't bad if you know what you're doing
are there any mods in chat currently
Cause fighters are better archers
Druids are better at nature
Rogues are better at stealth....
weird, in any way, im thinking of using zephyr or hunters mark
So if he presses it he can use wish more
my fellow party members kept dying, especially the barbarian
Barbarian behavior
oh my god recounting from memory, the barbarian didn't kill ANYTHING
He was dead at the start of the encounter that lasted 2 hours
Zealots dont die. Tell him to play zealot hahaha
Insane
or unconscious*
So what are rangers good at?
uh, being cool
He swung our unconscious party member to try and break the legs of an old lady, who turned out to be the goblin queen.
Thematical rp..... which you can do with any other class.
They get some terrain advantages and specific foe advantages.
They are a mix of a few classes while being good at range, they have certain buffs depending on the situation
I think by far I did the most damage out of everyone in my party
Least it wasnt that bad, my barbarian punched someone only to get punched so fast he died on impact, it did a sonic boom lol
I rather that would've happened instead of him dying immediately 😭
Is 3 terasques plus a lich who's phyalactary is one of those terasques survivable
honestly though, there's like one amazing ranger spell that only one other class gets
He had a mortal Kombat fatal blow screen happen to him😭
Fair point
every turn I had to maneuver myself so that I could heal my teammates while killing the enemies from afar
and you know, after all of that... we got 48 xp.
Oh yeah sounds like the dm didn't wanna do that
Milestone>xp
Anyone have an anime themed campaign that has room for someone? Or looking to start something of the sort and needs people?
Elite= in person
Great = FaceTime
Good = vc
Ok = pbp
You never know until you try
Pbp is good for people who live in different time zones
Irl I get stuck with a bunch of plebs who screw around so we dont get anywhere
I need actual good dnd friends lol
I like it tbh especially if someone's taking notes and sharing screen then it's so good
Interesting
Don’t let anybody tell you what is the best way to play. The best way to play is whatever works for you and your friends.
Yeah cross table talk can linger in game.
Plus most of them are pretty new so half the time im doing stuff for them
It's also just easier for planning because I've had multiple times where we just were all on so we just played dnd randomly
Like kristina... tell us about your dogs libido later....
Someone should make a character who had a hilariously high con score and the reason is they have an addiction to milk
Its more annoying then fun atp
Had a pretty experienced guy put everything into intimidation so he could intimidate anything into doing stuff, inanimate objects too
Actually..... this is funny and I think ima spin that from milk to a herbal doctor
I play druid so I have herbalism kit. I can just act like my character is constantly eating ginger and turmeric and other forms of health nutrition lol
Paladins are fun
Yeah, they are good. High capacity of AC, spells, smite
The only thing i would think they lack is movement, but again, why you would care about movement when you can stand your ground
I'm sure he's joking about the xp
I'm making a soda bender
facetime campaigns?? or you mean when there's a requirement for facecam
Hello. I am new here.
new to D&D or the server
to this server.
hi there buddy, any favorite spell you would like to share?
welcome
I don't have a favorite spell. I think so many of them are fun.
damn, mine is Ravenous void and dark star, both are so terrifying and epic.
Do you guys know how to make the “looking for players” thing?
I haven't been able to play regularly in month and months. Every time I get a game started it falls apart for one reason or another. I had a druid character, and I liked to use poison cloud. I would describe them as the "worst fart you ever smelled"
Hi all, i just joined the server and have been thinking about trying out some dnd, but ive never played before and dont know where to start.
#dnd-newcomers #learn-to-play are good places to start
I’m a wizard…
The voices are telling me not to-
yall i am makin my first character and i need advice on the race
im basically makin a type of dark/unknown character that is tryin to get over hiis past while acting happy and social towards people
But no if I had to pick a fav it’d be a ritual like identify or a fun attack like Gust Of Wind or Thunderwave (totally not biased of thunderwave getting me 20 kills in one action)
Fireball
magic missile
Why not Sorcerous Burst?
My absolute favorite spell will always be divine smite
I enjoy ritual spells as a wizard as the ritual can be as little as hand gestures or as a grand as spelling out arcane letters with your staff and slamming them into words (similar appearance to Skyrim words of power)
All you need is fireball
all you need is smite
Nothing more nothing less
As someone who plays a draconic sorcerer kobold, I approve of this message
My favorite spell is detect thoughts
“I didn’t ask how big the room was, nor if it was wood, I’m casting fireball cuz I know it will work, FIREBALLLLL”
Such a spell
No thats only for paladins that dosent count. But wizard spells is fireball
Only reason why i would play warlock
I mean
yo?
Warlocks are also fun for the fact that we get spells back on a Short rest
that's not the only reason I do
All you need is Eldritch blast
hunger of hadar is a heck of a spell, and I do thoroughly enjoy eldritch smite
Dont need spells as a warlock i have eldritch blast
exactly
Altough i can get fireball on warlock best of both worlds
Alr warlocks are good nevermind
Warlocks have a better smite, it works on ranged weapons!
Exactly
Jk, but it is really funny
When do warlocks unlock fireball btw
And besides that you don't need to follow a code of being good
you get it at level 5 if you're a fiend warlock
Most warlocks are little shits and they're gods love it
The fiend subclass at lvl 5 I think
Alr
I want a warlock who multi classes into another warlock make him a human
If you catch my reference nice
A warlocks concept is much more interesting then other spell casters if you ask me
Agreed cleric it makes sense how they get there power somewhat and sorcerers are just lucky
Just sucks they dont have alot of spellslots
And wizards, book
In the late game, they functionally get a lot of spell slots
I mean true but again short rests regain everything
True but still
Also warlocks aren't gonna be casting a lot of spells
I dont see em as a bad class tho i find em cool
They abuse cantrips for a reason that way when they need to use spells they got em
if you want a ton of spells, do pact of the tome and take the ritual invocation, whatever it's called
Hm maybe, buuut also having limited spellslots does sound a bit more challenging
Hmm any good recommendations for patrons for a more good hearted warlock
Ah that would be celestial warlock
If only arc raiders wasnt 40 bucks
Fair just play dnd it's free
Except dice
Digital dice rollers, which are more random then real dice, are often free
Yeah I know, less fun though
Alright i might make a celestial warlock. The deal is as long as they use their power for good, never harm the innocent or side with the evil and always eradicate the evil they get to keep their power
I could make the patron be a devil but i dont wish to end up making wyll from bg3
Sounds about right id suggest making the patron an angel
Sounds well good
I dont really like making evil characters. Feels like im ruining for the party and just edgy
I had a necromancer beast tamer build and we killed a bunch of aboleths and I tamed a good chunk of em and put them in my bag of holding, then using them as a minigun, one shotting the campaigns final boss
A little broken but
Should i make the patron be a potential love interest
nah
Alr then
make it a unicorn
Lol
I mean, it's a real celestial
Unicorns aren't nice
sure they are
Tell that to Edward
Hey I'm new to d&d and I want to do a camping with my friends can you guys help me make one
im looking for players how do i make an add on that channel
Type /looking-for players
Hey guys I am new to d&d and I want to do a camping with my friends can you guys help me set it up
Or walk me through on how to make a camping
Sure go to #dm-world-building
Ok
Not entirely accurate 😅
Or one of them I believe
pick or make a verse and sandbox in that verse
I always go with forgotten realms near the sword coasts
yeah....i fear that if i play some wild magic one just show up and throw han....hooves at me....
Yeah, the wild magic can make one show up for 1 mintue
I saw the immediate typing so I’ll get yuck level nerdy. The Rand function isn’t truly random at all but just the current time in microseconds run through a standard equation and truncated to within the boundaries of the 1-X of the dice emulated.
Sorry for going there
It’s a prng but it also doesn’t have physical imperfections which is where physical dice typically have issues in their “randomness”
For most games it really doesn’t matter though what dice rolling tool you use
Physical or digital - it’s random enough
Tru dat
And with that random you can get some funny moments
Like i got one time 15 times nat20, welp, not me, hte DM did it.
We were laughing a lot in that session
We survived for a few things because holly cannelloni we almost got obliterated
Does anyone know if the starter sheets in lmop wld work in doip?
Starter character sheets*
Using quantum superposition to randomize my dice like a pro
more than 2000 thousands of years of evolution, more than 500 of technology improvement
all that for making a digital dice totally random
Amazing
Absolutely! You can pull adventure elements from both box sets and run your players around Phandalin for months!
anyone wanna play some dnd
i do
Hello, friends
ok we need a dm and maybe some other playrers
bet
We're getting a Warforged War Cleric in our Vecna Eve of Ruin campaign!
Finally, my Celestial Warlock doesn't have to constantly carry with healing by himself
i like turtles
Play a Tortle
would you play with us
I’m sure the upcoming boss will totally not kill them.
Hey guys how do I play a paladin
are you a defensive or offensive one
Get in the way of enemies, buff yourself/allies
I Wana be an offensive
Smite people
then hit things, your allies will follow you
Yeah good luck with that with Paladin
is there really a flaw to paladin I can’t find anything
they make great damage dealers
I'm new
You will thrive for 1-2 encounters. Then you are just a much worse Fighter
pllease will someone play dm with us
Slow movement and lack of AOE and half caster so they are lacking slots in long adventuring days.
with the new rules, you certainly can extend that much further
Not the place to ask.
What spells can the paladin use
where
Their spell list.
Go to #find-a-game. Random people on a Discord chat won't DM for you.
I love having find steed, it's great. Half casters are still better than not being casters at all, and you can get aoe with certain subclasses
#find-a-game has the information you need
What is the paladins main job?
Yeah but not that many and a couple that are close to good.
Paladins are also only really good protectors at lower levels when their party is close to them
Which can be problematic
Ok
Party defense.
ohhhh sweet got it
They have AC and spells and features specifically at protecting their Allie’s
DMing takes quite a bit of effort. Don't expect most people to drop everything to make a game for you.
Oh so like a tank?
Paladins will not do a metric ton of damage, but they are incredibly good for protecting their team (not quite like a tank, it's hard to explain)
Ideally if you want a very offensive martial Fighters, Barbarians, and Monks are the way mainly
Paladin is like Druid and Cleric with a more supportive and defensive role
Oh sweeetttt
Even their smites have ways to help your allies
sorry im new you guys are lowk helping me out so much
gotta say, oath of the ancients goes pretty hard for protecting people
or oath of the noble genies
Paladin? More like Palamid. /joking
I love paladins
that's weird, so do I
Is there like a heirarchy of the characters (what are they called)
It's not like, my top 5, but it's definitely top 8
Hierarchy of what?
it's in my top 3 for sure
The uhm like whatever paladin is
What is smiting
Hierarchy of Paladins?
Like a list of best to worst?
A spell you can cast to hit something a bit harder
Ok
divine smite, it's pretty cool
no like the “characters” like paladin is
or classes I think
Classes.
wizards are the best I'm pretty sure
Yeah, there's a bunch of different classes
I still don't understand if you are asking which classes are the best.
Well.. 13 (Soon to be 14, my beloved Psion)
Yeah which ones are like the best
primary spellcasters
Wait psion? did I miss some news
They do different things. There are no best classes.
Ah okay
Is there like a team synergy thing?
Usually yes.
Yeah! Any group can make it work though
There is no best class. It's all subjective. Just like there is no best Species. Opinions differ
The classic is the Rogue, Fighter, Wizard, Cleric as they cover most things in the game you’d ever expect to face for example
Oh cool!
Druid with faerie fire fuels my rogue's sneak attacks >:)
