department stores & humans is my favorite tabletop
I'm basic, I love silver dragons.
Blood Clott, my sweet warforged is just an incubator for my back up character who I should have just been playing the entire campaign instead but ya know
I love silver and white dragons lol
Dangerous underground bunkers & mythical flying lizards is probably the best game I know
But I love all dragons honestly
Bruh, that's like saying dungeons are cool
Im here for the dragons
i'm specifically a gold dragon enjoyer due to a short story from a 2006 anthology
Dungeons are cool, Dragons are hot and together they are room temperature
Ooh, which?
traitors
my half-dragon is descended from the king from it, orchtrien, specifically because he and his sons have a lot of bastards
and from elves at that
Is that the name of the anthology or the story? Both are important!
story, realms of the elves was the anthology
Isn't his surname Baratheon by any chance ?
no surname i think
Actively tweaking waiting for another UA
I have so much lore for my warforged and back up character and I love them so much
this is the sort of attitude i love seeing people have for their dnd chars, bc i function like that too
Yesss
loredump to me if you want
Lore is good. It is a floor upon which to build your world upon.
In this chat or in dms? Because I could go into details because I love them both so much I could continue on for a while because it is a lot
if it's allowed here, here is fine, but i'm also cool w/ dms
You can never have too much lore. If it feels overwhelming that is because there is an error in how the lore was presented rather than it's existence.
I had to rework my character because I figured DM probably wouldn't like I would try a ride everything. The character was supposed to be like Johnny Joestar and crawl everywhere without a mount.
Then I’ll tell it here, though then I have to decide if I begin talking about the first campaign in this world or the sequal campaign that my warforged currently is in. Because the lore of the first campaign is only relevant to my back up
i only used my half-dragon in campaigns among friends because that's a very veto-able race that might not be very convincing for a lv1 pc, even if his backstory involves a halted incubation for 26k years in the astral plane
Yet it also does set the scene of the world
Oh imagine making a warforged be from the astral plane, so many ideas at once but anyway.
I assume it is good to set the world to then begin to explain the characters?
sure go ahead
The world is pretty easy to summarize, even though I don’t remember all details I do remember the gods of this world put together something that ended up being the abyss. The divinity of change basically and all of the gods regret creating the abyss because of the plague it basically is apon the world. The abyss is very crucial as it has both a divinity and a god and they are separate beings. The god just helps the divinity keep things intact
I remember that there was supposed to be an Daggerdale writeup in the 2014 dmg that never got included in the end. Does anyone have any info on that?
The abyss basically gains a cult following around every 50 years that always leads to the cult trying to destroy the world. Trying to take the entire world into the abyss or just destroying it from the inside out because of change is all the divinity wants, it finds joy in change. It loves it and it even finds it hilarious.
One small thing to mention is dead gods become demons in the abyss, another reason the many gods hate the abyss and want it gone.
The world also has two continents, the western and eastern lands. The eastern lands is where the first and sequal campaign is. The western lands don’t believe in gods. Demons taint the lands and ichor(demon blood) is in everything so the people that live there have to survive eating food tainted with ichor
does it taste like pineapples?
pineapple juice burning your mouth intensified tenfold?
The two continents are also you could say blocked off each other. Nobody has been able to go from the western lands to the eastern lands successfully yet
I don’t remember what it was described as on how it tastes but I do remember when a player tried to eat it they had to do constant con saves to not throw up
The first campaign in this world is only in the eastern lands and only lasted around half a year. It has so many good moments
Have you ever been able to defeat a god with holy toilet water? Because I did in that campaign
peak writing (not even ironic)
i love that tbh
sounds like a genuinely miserable world on the eastern side though
My character in that first campaign was a water genasi monk, raised by three men monks on an island to train. She eventually joined an adventure party with two other people. They got to a temple and found this sentient sword that can change into whatever weapon you wanted so we took turns wielding it and changing it to our build(important) we go through city’s to find information. Fighting off demons and had basically a scene of my character glaring at the bbg on her home island where her family were basically infected with demon infection
I did forget to mention demon infection, the name itself says what it is. It makes you become something you aren’t, we had to fight a bull that had it and it stood on its hind legs, it front legs skin and muscle fell off to make the bone into weapons and fought us
That is where the cult always comes from the eastern lands. As only in the eastern lands do you actually believe in the gods
And yes, that entire last session of the campaign was peak because it was just perfect ending
Hii:3
that bull is one of the visual descriptions i've ever read
I'm doing dnd rp with a friend of mine, and we've both cried, gotten angry and gotten grossed out at the characters and scenes. this is the best thing ever
it's giving nightmare fuel i think
Yes
Hello!
Hru?
yeah that makes sense
so how much did you do in the west, if you arrived there?
Im doing good, I am just yapping about the campaign/character lore I am in
Also imagine how it was for us to have that description told to us on how we just saw this bull from standing on all four stand to standing on the hind legs
What do you do when people at the table get overwhelmed and shut down
mr. incredible uncanny.png
Take five and breathe.
It really depends on the exact circumstances
i can practically hear the exact meme music just imagining the scene
But a little bit of rest is often good
This was a couple years back, but there was a scene in an Eberron campaign that I was playing in where I almost had a panic attack on behalf of my character. It was marvelous storytelling but it's a good thing that it was at the end of the session.
What colour do you imagine psionics as ? (Don't think about my shitty wording)
That is where we are currently in that campaign, to summarize it shortly we managed to escape the cult and through a portal we ended up landing from the skies into the western lands that is full of sand. The entire goal of this arc was to get back to the eastern lands to stop the cult which is what we are doing next session. Using a machine to do a journey that nobody has successfully done and get to the other side of the world
I figured smth of the sort was inevitable but it's cool regardless
Invisible, usually. Or that iridescent purple-green-orange haze.
Now I got to figure out how to shape that in form of eye colour
Ye, the last session of the first campaign was amazing. We basically found where the bbg is and where they are trying to open a portal into the abyss to swallow the entire world whole into it. We went down stairs into a temple and there were two statues there. The trope ’one tells lies, one tells truth’ etc. Two doors, we didn’t feel like dealing with it so we opened the door on the left and it was just a bathroom(the statues laughed) so we went the other way. The other door we meet the bbg and some cultists and we fought against them before they could summon the black hole (basically) but we were too late. We did kill off all the cultists and all we had left was to do something about this.
It is slightly important to know we were only level 3 with a lot of homebrew buffs called divine boons (my charscter ended up being joked to be Undyne because I made my divine boons be spear related). My characters name was Lazuli
Make it mabye fade through those colors?
The orange would likely stick out unless I go for pattern as well. Purple as base, green as maybe some overlying circle and orange dots.
I love the statues thing, I pull exactly that sort of stuff on my players
lv3 vs a blackhole 💀 my party of 5 are lv7 and they are struggling with bats atp
also bbg instead of bbeg is one of the funniest typos ever
One thing we did was break the wall to the bathroom, break the toilet and as a water genasi I had shape water so I used that to take the holy toilet water (this is a temple. Of course holy toilet water) and threw it on the ritual markings and we turned the sentient sword into a broom to sweep the holy water across the ritual markings (it didn’t work fully)
Wrong server, mb
i almost envy how creative your party is
Lol, big bad guy I see bbg also as rather than just baby girl
or baby gorilla, depending on your perspective
honestly i'm really impressed by the solutions you came up with
Big banana golden dog also popcorn
the most creative thing to come out of my party so far was when the EK threw the light cleric at a giant bat. except he landed in its mouth. and got chewed a bunch.
Though eventually we realized we could only save the world by going into the abyss and fight the current abyss god so the player with the sentient sword I allowed myself to get pulled into the black hole and entered the abyss. The sword then allowed itself to be absorbed to be like a divine essence, aka making myself stronger. I had the choice to fight the god alone or pull in my two companions. I pulled my companions in so we fought the abyss god that was a centipede looking creature that was and old man. (That was the only reason we were able to fight it at level 3)
and you didn't get a fourth level-up for any of this
it is sort of funny hearing about a party throwing hands with a god when they can't cast fireball
6 days so far in 2026 without any new book annoucements from WOTC
We did defeat the god and become gods ourselves. As I was the one to take the main blessing of the sword I was the more powerful one out of us three.
Here is the important part. I made it so Lazuli became the new abyss god, hoping to dely the next abyss disaster by an extra few years so a new group of people have extra time to prepare and save the world from it as she knows even as a monk she can’t stop herself from being corrupted fully and that was the end of campaign one
oh that's
okay yeah i see why your dm has been stingy with level-ups this campaign will last basically forever
Hello folks, new to dnd! I loved bg3 and I heard that I should start with 3.5e, other than the website is there any thing I should know?
from all you've said so far it's giving 5 year campaign
That was a half a year campaign
Every other week
no i meant like if the next ones are the continuation of this
i think you're set up for something you're gonna get even more invested in than you already have
i think it's really cool actually
Ah, well the one we are currently in might be like a one year- a year and a half campaign, we started it before summer last year the sequal
icic
We did also basically have no sessions under the summer so..
we have more irregular sessions
i've also set up my campaign for something very long-lived, but rn i'm at a loss for balancing it
We try to aim for weekly but not everyone’s schedule is fit.
But anyway time for me to start talking about the sequal campaign aka my current character and its lore
all the pcs started at lv7, but the five of them have comparable damage to my lv3 wizard pc from another campaign and i don't know how the hell
Players not reading their features?
yeah pretty much
So the sequal campaign is 75 years later after the first campaign. So Lazuli did dely the abyss by an extra 25 years when the average is every 50
Blood Clott is a warforged that has existed for 74 years. They were created just one year after Lazuli became the abyss goddess he was created to destroy the cult of the abyss for the future and serve another purpose which was be an incubator. Blood Clott is a hermit as he has stayed in one place, he used to work and live in a clinic with other vampire spawns. The clinic was just a clinic for women to get rid of the monthly blood in exchange for we get to use the blood to drink and use as fuel as Blood Clott used blood as fuel to survive
Interesting background for a warforged
You are a vampire no matter the race, Lesbian Vampire Dungeons & Dragons Official Server
Gave a character a haircut once. Alexis did it to his druid with a hand and a half sword. She was... let's say surprised.
And there was the time De Vor got an actual bath and a dress and her hair done. That was a bit of a surprise to the party.
Blood Clott over the years did completely forget their original purpose so all they did remember was that they are suppose to destroy the abyss. In this clinic also for legal reasons Blood Clott is legally married to a vampire spawn (they forgot the name of this vampire spawn but they refuse to admit they forgot)
ok that's funny
Sad fact, every vampire spawn except this one vampire spawn is dead. The only reason this one lives is because we saved it from being slain by a demon
I was rping as my orc, urias. We were talking about my past I said "some will tell you im the nicest guy in the world. Others will say im the biggest jerk they've ever ment. Believe them both, they got the version they deserved"
ok thats. not funny.
Did i cook or no?
poor goober, their savior doesn't even bother remembering their name
impromptu it's good
i find myself fumbling a lot if i am not given some time to think
Blood Clott tries but they just call them vampire spawn
(Also the vampire spawn is an artificer so they can fix Blood Clott as construct. They are the perfect duo)
was put on the stage and couldn't give my minotaur his intended greek-australian accent
I'm glad to hear that. My last role play was..... interesting... to say the least.
I basically role played my orc getting on all 4s like a feral animal stealing a raw fish from some poor fisherman. And then I proceeded to eat it
So I guess its a flip of a coin for me, when it comes to me making great role plays
Now as I said way earlier the group were all captured by the cult and taken into the headquarters of the cult where they meet the five bishops who control it (the ones we have to kill) we basically had to meet the divinity of the abyss to get approved to join the cult and by doing so we gained blessings of the abyss. One each, that is also what activated the part of blood Clott that is an incubator
You see Blood Clott as I have mentioned once or twice was created to be an incubator. The thing he is incubating is the humanity of the goddess Lazuli, what remains
Hi yall! I have a question what's the biggest difference in your campaign world to offical dnd
I don't know all the details yet, but I know a small difference that will happen to our friend group campaign
The dm is making a new in verse way of fast travel
Trains or just blessings from gods, and mabye metaphysical damage
They mean probably the official world of dnd, faerun etc
How many gods are in dnd? Are they all nuetral?
There's many gods and they span all the Alignments!
To specify in the campaign I am in we are given 3 blessings from 3 gods as soon as your an existing creature. Blessing of life, blessing of combat and one more that I forgot. Basically in the campaign if you indulge too much with the abyss you slowly lose those blessings aka you just are worse in combat, you don’t heal as much every night etc
Well if a god has the annogram "lol" in thier name. Then you would be dumb to expect them to not be trolly
Thats dope, so like there's a undead god?
Thats dope, mind me using this idea for newer players when I dm?
Also thank you :3
O hell no
I like green
There's different panteons for a lot of species as well, but the main Panteon to know about is the Faerûnian Pantheon as those are some of the most well known and powerful deities
Dont worry, its a hot spider
O a pretty lady spider, that acts like a land siren, that lures lonely men into thier doom. No thanks
I LOVE LOLTH! I literally bought the dms guide 2024 edition with the limited Lolth cover just because of Lolth was on it. She’s so I love her
Spare me from that crap please
Would you be more interested in Tiamat?
I love Tiamat
Lolth isn't the type to Lure you to your death, she's the type of directly cause it one way or another.
Isn't that the dragon in hell?
I'm not sure
Uhh, kinda?
Sure! Of course you can
She’s an evil dragon goddess who is trapped in the Nine Hells, yes
So shes a physical attacker? Not the kind to use spells?
There's many
No, I mean, she'll manipulate people to take care of who she wants
Yeah, the Forgotten Realms setting has a bunch of gods, there are too many good aligned deities to name off the top of my head
I love Tiamat and Lolth.
I mean. She's evil. Simple basic, and one doesn't have to be good to get recognized. She's pretty cool
My favorite deities are Ilmater, Hoar and Vhaeraun
OML WILL YOU STOP 😭
Lolth, Tiamat. That order
Dont know those. Which ones are they?
Idk what to be scared for, you or the spider goddess
Ilmater suffers for the sake of others, Hoar is a War God concerned with Vengeance
And Vhaeraun is the Trickery God son of Lolth who seeks to usurp her
I want both Lolth and Tiamat at the same time
Ilmater is the god of endurance and martyrdom, Vhareraun is iirc a male drow god of trickery, and Hoar is a god of revenge and retribution
In what way....
Your name fits you more and more
The dm
Another fun Deity is from the Eberron Pantheon known as the Sovereign Host, her name is Dol Arrah and she's the Deity of Hearth and Home
AO, I think their name is
I think you know
Shut up, I was just being logical
Strongest with in lore would probably be Cthulhu
-
Yeah, Ao is the big top 1 god. Doesnt care about the world 90 percent of the time though
Not even close, actually
AO Is the Lord of the Forgotten Realms. However, he does answer to a higher power
Joking*
Cthulu isn't anywhere near the power of Ao
:3
You all are sussy bakas
Thanks
No I am desperate for women
Ao has the power to literally permanently injure other Gods AND Strip them of Godhood
That explains Lolth, but Tiamat...?
So shes the queen of the gods
I love dragons
He
Fair enough
Some said he was a girl, sorry
Apathy he cares that the gods are doing their job and nothing else.
Bite you
I also like Loviatar and Shar
Ao wouldn't technically have a gender because well at a certain point gender doesn't matter to power
Women gods?
Ao is male in most depictions, but any Deity can take any gender or form they please, honestly
-# Tie me up
Yo, have yall ever found a way to control a dragon?
WHAT
Remember this is a family friendly Discord
They have webs!
Can we not be freaky in the PG server >->
Absolutely logical answer. She would then feed you to their babies, still alive of course
Yeah, I think the new FR book actually explicitly states that due to their nature, the gods don’t have explicit genders, just forms they choose to take.
Exactly! It's awesome
Who is the god of the undead?
In the Forgotten Realms, Kelemvor
There are many
Jergal and Kelemvor are the main two, however
Isn't he one of the good ones?
I mean Hades if your asking in general
He’s considered a “lawful neutral” figure
They are mostly good right?
I will just say this, I like evil aligned women gods
But he's not the god of death that's thanotos
Ah ok
Kelemvor is a very noble diety, yes, he believes in fair judgment of the dead
Ai sucks
Jergal is basically the bookkeeper of Kelemvor, he keeps track of all who have died
Lemme guess, when lady dimucrestcu was revealed in resident evil village, your neurons activated.
Yes, I don’t even play resident evil
grabs spray bottle
Undead? Velsharoon
My favorite evil aligned Deity is Baphomet :>
Honestly that's fair
Yeah, Jergal used to be the greater god of death. He decided to step down and take a role as a minor deity, so he’s basically Kelemvor’s accountant now
:3
Well, Baphomet and Jubilex are my favorites, they're also Demon Lord's
Don't the gods, hate the undead bc it ruins the order of nature? Like isn't there a dude who hates vampires?
They choose to not be a greater god
Baphomet created my favorite species (Minotaurs)
And Jubilex is my favorite primordial ooze fella lmao
Yes, Kelemvor hates undead because they are outside of the “natural order”.
I remember that from yt shorts
Not all Gods hate undead, however
Velsharoon -> Undead
Kelemvor -> The Dead
Myrkul -> Death
Jergal -> Scribe of the Dead
Lathander also hates undead
Vecna is literally a Lich God, afterall
Setting dependent, yes
VECNA?!?!
And Bhaal -> Murder
Yeah, true ^
make a deal with god, and get him to swap our placess
In some settings, Vecna is an arch-lich. In others, he’s a god of undeath and forbidden secrets.
Similar to how the Raven Queen is a powerful being in all settings, but only a goddess in some
Vecna in D&D is different than he is in Stranger Things.
He's the God of Secrets and forbidden knowledge as well (Setting dependant)
The person I was yapping to disappeared, sadge
No.
Loosely, the monsters are only named after D&D beings
Awww 🙁
The demigods of the Forgotten Realms are some of my favorite people.
Like Siamorphe the Goddess of Nobility.
She's just like a lady that hangs out in Waterdeep or Baldur's Gate. And it's passed down from person to person.
The D&D names you hear on ST are just names the characters use to associate the show’s villains with D&D
Can you become a demi god in campaign?
Demogorgon, for example isn't just a Lil guy, he's one of the Head demon lords.
Oh ok
Also, he looks more like a giant baboon with tentacle arms and two heads lmao
I have a homebrew god of the arts his name is Rob boss
Oh, it would've been cool if it was a dnd show
So Vecna, the Demogorgon, and the Mind Flayer in ST aren’t the actual ones from D&D, they’re just what the ST characters call their enemies for the sake of making an association with the monsters they’ve fought in D&D.
That and branding
I do like the tennis ball sized stranger things d20 they did
Those three monsters are also considerably more powerful in D&D
At least Vecna and Demogorgon are stronger than their stranger things counterparts by miles
Yeah, the Demogorgon is a demon prince in D&D. In ST, it’s a type of monster.
If those kids were fighting the actual Demogorgon, the world would've already been screwed off gate lmao
Have yall seen the dnd movie?! I just seen it. That was one of the few things that got me to seek out a campaign
Though I will say, the Mind Flayer in ST definitely feels stronger than a mindflayer in D&D
All of the DnD movies are peak entertainment
Oh, absolutely
my entire party wants bahamut, i think
Oh yay your alive
sorry i was throwing rocks at strangers
The latest one was hilarious, especially when they are talking to the dead guy
What a odd things to do
god forbid a man have hobbies
I only have Three Characters who are married and/or have partners lmao
Yeah, Honor Among Thieves was a great movie
I'm wondering what we're in for this year regarding adventures and other content.
My wife and I just recently rewatched it
It's dnd right? I assumed it was when I saw the owl bear
Hopefully a super epic murder Dungeon
Yep. The name of the movie is “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”.
My biggest gripe with that movie is that homedude isn't really a bard.
You missed a lot of talking in this chat
Oml, its been awhile
He is
Me just yapping about the sequal campaign
What's his class and subclass?
Does dnd beyond accommodate sub classes?
my bad, sorry, i was distracted
You guys know that Bards the class and Bard the job are two different things right?
It’s alrighty. Just your gonna have to scroll a little bit up to read the lore I wrote
Same with Clerics and members of the clergy
If I was gonna stat him out, I’d say he’s a lore bard who doesn’t cast spells. Cuz the movie wanted to prioritize the sorcerer as the spellcaster of the group, whereas the bard prioritizes inspiring the rest of the group.
Yes. To access the additional content on DDB requires payment.
time to homebrew your own class
I'd agree with that, but is there really a point in saying that when they had a druid who could also cast spells? It's not like that would diminish either of their importance.
The druid in the move really only wildeshapes
The Druid doesn’t cast spells in th movie either
Wonder if you could crowbar the Hellboy movie into a D&D scenario outline?
It highlights her Wild Shaping abilities, but aside from that, she doesn’t really do a lot of magical stuff
True. But it's still magic, isn't it?
But it’s not spellcasting
I did also forget to say one thing, Blood Clott is a homebrewed class of blood mage that my DM made
oh that's neat
But yeah most classes in DnD also refer to actual jobs people do. Not every solider who fights is a Fighter
but they are all fighters
guess what my only homebrewed subclass is
She was more the animal shapeshifter than a druid with power over the various elements of nature.
Why not just let him do the same? Give him some weird magical "rizz" that lets him charm people.
whats your guys' opinion on the "best" language to pickup as a second language (other than common)?
does draconic make sense for scrolls and magical artifacts maybe?
Ultimately, the characters are designed to highlight what their classes do. The Sorcerer casts spells, the Druid Wild Shapes, the Bard inspires, the Barbarian rages, the Paladin smites
Common Sign Language.
He is constantly charming and inspiring people all of the time in the movie
Draconic, Elvish, Common Sign Language
Technically, the paladin is the DM PC.
Because the sorcerer’s whole character arc revolves around him trying to get a grasp of his spellcasting. It would look bad if the sorcerer was a mediocre caster and the bard was better than him.
Random fun fact!
Drow (The Dark Elves) actually have their own sign language system!
source of envy, not bad
Why would that matter? Everyone's better than someone at something. It doesn't make someone an inferior if they're better.
One of the opening moments in the film is the Bard charming the Absolution council for a pardon.
ight thx, any reasons other than communicuation with other races (more like stuff such as the scrolls etc)
But again, the movie gives all the characters a moment to highlight whats unique to their class. Bards and Sorcerers are both casters, but Sorcerers don’t have Bardic Inspiration. So they focused on the Bard being an inspiring figure and the Sorcerer being the group caster.
Hm, his story wasn't that convincing, but fair.
Ye
But he still gets the pardon
I can get behind that, but he seemed more like a Rogue to me who had the "job" of Bard like Kas says.
i sort of itch for a table where i can take out my chronomantic sorcerer for a test ride, but no oppurtunities yet
just gotta wait until the oppurtunity pops up and i'm free from dm jail
Not all bards are musicians. Bards and Harpers go hand in hand to the beginning
Common Sign Language is good for talking to your party quietly
Draconic is good for dragons and other creatures that solely speak it or for private communication with said creatures
And a lot of creatures know Elvish as well lol
He’s definitely Rogue-ish, but I can still see him as a Bard given the fact that he’s inspiring
infernal and gith have nice swear words
The movie kind of makes a joke that he's not very inspiring or very good at planning.
Draconic and Common Sign Language are your best options
His whole speech on failures is basically inspiring leader
Doesn't the party literally ask him what he's here for?
Yet he ends up inspiring the rest of the party by the end of the movie
In fact, throughout the movie he kinda keeps the group together
Yep without Edgin Darvis the party fails immediately
🤷
Even when they joke about him, he’s the one who keeps the group together
One time I made a dnd character for a campaign a drider just so I can have a connection to Lolth
I have a Drow Celestial Warlock and he absolutely hates Lolth
Best part? His Patron is Eilistraee
I can't wait to ruin Lolths plots :3
It's also because I hate how Lolth treats her people as well lmao
My drider hates Lolth, used to be cleric, now ranger
Anyway I gotta dip so I can sleep, gn!
Rest well
how are we all doin?
before you go, here's the goober i mentioned #dnd-arts-and-crafts message
and now, good night!
Hii
I told you about this but my character is the exact opposite of this
You will be freed from Lolths servitude soon enough, dear friend.
She's a lolth sworn drow whose patron is a lich who hates non-drows and wants to make the drow conquer the world
Monk gongs
Well, raised lolth-sworn. But her current patron definitely has similar goals.
Her current Patron is a Fool, just like Lolth!
Abd here me character would say "You are a traitor to our species, a drow should be proud!"
Existence of Lolth suggests existence of cry-in-silence-th
You deserve to be turned into a drider for that joke
insert ash baby meme
Your bio is peak btw
He actively does inspire them and keep them together in the movie.
I think Cisth [Cyst] is cool name for her
Aren't all driders male?
Pershaded
"Lolth is as childish as she was the day she seeked to betray her people, no one kind can reign supreme over all the realms, especially when said peoples "supreme ruler" is apathetic towards their suffering, you're just as short-sighted as your beloved "Goddess"
Would probably be his response
Nope
If you're talking about my character she already has a name
Nah, I'm pretty sure it's like general punishment for being a good and not shitty person
Its for the drow who fail her tests
I thought this was a punishment for male drown only
As of 2024, it can also be considered a blessing
*drows
So whether it’s punishment or a reward is up to the drow being turned into a drider
I meant Lolth
Becoming a Drider was also never a gendered punishment/blessing
I mean...being male Drow is like punishment enough
For saying shit like that about Lolth and not only worshipping the Lady of the Dance but receiving a part of her power, I'm sure they could make an exception.
Yeah, in 2014 it was always considered a punishment for failing, but as of 2024 it’s punishment to those who would see it as a punishment and a blessing to those who see it as a blessing. But it was never a gendered thing. At least not in 5E.
Drider may have been exclusively male in prior editions, but I wouldn’t know.
Who would want to be a webass
Does anyone make up lore on the spot to add to campaigns if it doesn't interfere with the existing material? For example, lore that I've come up with is that Undercommon doesn't have plural and the number of things being referred to is derived from context.
...would drider be called Spiderman or Venom ?
Maybe a people who have been deeply indoctrinated into a Lolth-worshipping cult society
or the secret third option, Black Widow
All the time
That's your average Drow baby nickname
Hi echo. Don't scroll up in the DM discussion chat.
Question about this, actually: does she actually ask anything of your warlock, or is his belief in her teachings already a fair exchange in her eyes?
Don't forget that not all Drow are Lolthites
Yeah ! Not all Drow are lollies
In my campaigns, languages like Draconic, Celestial, Abyssal and Infernal aren’t completely pronounceable by humanoids, so they speak a “bastardized” version of those languages. And depending on who you’re speaking to, they may or may not be offended. That was just something I decided at the last minute when the party tried to speak Draconic towards a blue dragon who was offended that they would seem so worthy as to even try and speak their language.
Ahem
Webass
micdrop
I like to think that Minthara is closest you could consider to kind drow
that's really funny, i would exclude stuff like dragonborn can be fluent in draconic, etc.
He cried out for her to grant him strength when his sister was murdered by a Balor, he blames Lolth for letting it happen and that festered his hatred towards her, Eilistraee granted him an escape so he could become stronger without his plans being found out
"Hey, webass." Said goblin in loving voice
all the gd time. most of it is stuff like "a strong enough wizard can make a bigger demiplane than the spell description"
(i just really wanted to make a demiplane inn)
His Pact with Eilistraee was simply her giving him a gift of compassion
Idk what sectarian branch of Lolth worship he was smoking that he thought Lolth would intervene to save the life of someone too weak to defend themselves.
A thing that I came up with just now: most elves write left to write, but drows are the only ones that write right to left. They do this because they literally oppose all of the other elf species.
Edgy
This sounds like a slur that drows would use against driders
Well Lol-thiates probably found it funny
He wasn't "smoking" anything it was just the moment where he realized how truly uncaring Lolth was towards her Drow, letting demons freely roam the streets of Menzoberrenzen to do as they please, even if it killed one of HER people? That's when the veil was lifted for him, when a Child died.
Time to turn Tokii into a Drider boss fight /jk
I could honestly see a particular kind of Lolthite implanting that sort of false doctrine just to watch people suffer as their expectations shatter against reality.
Tbh that sounds like something Lolth would approve
I'm pretty sure there's slur for every species in DnD. Chadwick's Guide to Insulting Language
Yeahhh Tokii is giving me some serious drider energy
Well with Lolth being chaotic and all, she would probably find it funny as Hell
"Faerie" is a Drow slur towards other elves, but looking at it from an outside perspective, you know.. slurs are kinda cringe? Lol
Iirc Lolth doesn't get upset about people lying about or slandering her as long as they are clever enough to get away with it.
If you get caught....drider time.
My character Just calls everyone that isn't a drow n'wah (if you recognize what this is from I love you)
Can I borrow a french frie ?
Hopefully Sovis lives long enough to make it back to Menzoberenzen, I hope he gets to shout from the roof tops and rally people against her tyranny, even if he dies! >:]
Just needs to survive 3 more bears
💀
The few times I've DM'd I've used my background as a hobby linguist to employ very obscure reconstructed or classical languages as a stand-in for in-universe ones
Every drow that escapes the web has their own breaking point. Every Eilistraeean comes to the light by their own path.
Imagine calling Dragonborn an Imagine Dragon
If they are an animal-like race my character calls them something that is made of that animal (she called a dragonborn "bag", a harefolk "patê" and an owlin "feather duster")
I know, but it doesn't always have to be the case.
How... original
Your character wouldn't last a day against my Waterdeep Party, we're fairly known there for killing racists
Well, she'd probably kill us right now as we're level 4 lmao
My character is a vain and egotistical mega-racist, yeah they'd totally fight. But trust me, I could totally write an enemies to lovers fanfiction about this.
We've got a Tortle (Me), A Tabaxi, A Saytr, A Human and an Orc lmao
And im the Human! 😊
Yeah, we love our human homie
Sounds about Drow
Hey. I'm new to discord. I'm looking to find some people to play DND with but have no idea how all of this works. I have only played dnd at home, never online.
You could try using the looking for games channels. Try #find-a-game
I have one Quam with the Forgotten realms adventure the book doesn't have Shar but the YouTube game play did that being said I bought the book for the calendar and am confused by how it has days that over lap please help
You don't have to do everything by the book
Thanks @glass granite
That wasn't my point I was hoping it would have information about her other than what's already on the wiki
Is there a way to make giving one player the eye and the second player the hand work
in eve of ruin
I mean, I think the Hand and Eye still function as their own things even separately
but to destroy them you need to have both on you and die to the sword of kas
The sourcebook isnt gonna give more than a blurb about deities. Youd need an in-depth book related to that, and tbf, this is just an update. What existed about Shar since 2014's release of 5e is still true to this day.
Well one player can keep an eye on the other players handy work
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/frhof/gods-of-faerun#Shar
But is what the new book says, if you own it.
The adventure book doesn't contain it, the players handbook does.
If you wanna know more about Shar, the Forgotten Realms wiki is a good go to for FR lore also.
awesome
I have the wiki saved to my computer but was hoping to find something in the book other than just a small blurb I'm still relatively new to the world of D&D but have made it my hobby that takes over my life when I got the time but nowadays I have little time. Thanks for letting me know
Honestly this is the one thing I will say stranger things did they helped expand DND to the public
There's not much source material that the wiki leaves out.
There is actually quite a bit missing from the wiki
It is the most complete D&D wiki out there. But there's still so much left to put on
The FR looks like it’s thorough with its sources because it has a lot sources.
But that’s because D&D has a MASSIVE amount of sources.
And the fr. Wiki is very studious. One of their regular contributors recently tracked down all of the artists from the TSR card game spellfire. So that all of the cards could be credited
There are some things that just will probably never be put on there.
In the late '90s, there was an RPGA series called The Living jungle set in a remote region in Southern Kara-Tur. There are still a handful of Adventures that they don't have copies of. And to their knowledge no one does. As these were printed on standard copy paper and handed out of game stores.
So I need some help with my homebrew cyberpunk dnd thing im doing
I just joined this server to ask how to play dnd i never played it but me and my friends are saving up money to buy it but we all dont know how to play it
Most metallic dragons, probably
Most Metallics are Lawful Good and aren't likely to kill you for just offending them
Just buy some dice everything else is free.
Is that a online game?
We are thinking about printing everything is that good?
We wanna play irl
But I doubt most dragons would let you scractch under their chin
Of course, thats why I said Metallics would be less likely to kill you for it
Alright but how do you play dnd?
tablet/phone, dndbeyond (app or site), dice, some paper... get started 🙂
Dracoliches are often very evil, so yeah lol
Hey guys I got a question does making your character chaotic evil lead to derailing a campaign?
Replace your slow pencil and paper for slow electronic paper
It doesn't have to, people often just misconstrue how Chaotic Evil characters really work and don't play them as best as they could.
If you're gonna play a CE character, give them a reason they NEED to work with the party and can't bring harm upon them
I can try but it is a one shot
They feed them apples
gather around a table, create your characters either on paper or through dndbeyond app (using the rules of character creation in the players hand book), one of you will have to start narrating the story for the other players using the dungeon master guide to help direct things with rules supporting what and how things happen
Chaotic Evils don't have to be Murderhobos.
They can just be incredibly selfish to the point they don't care about laws or who they hurt to get what they need.
Oh ok fire
Neutral Good characters are good individuals that aren't typically driven to cause harm, but they won't go out of their way to do good for no reasons how I interpret it.
i'd imagine they won't appreciate it either
Most definitely not
as a good dm will allways tell you... You can try...
Neutral Good characters would also probably have a bit of their own code of what they think is right, but probably not to the whims of a Chaotic Good individual
whats your guys's favourite "small" race and why?
A bad DM always says no
A good DM allows players to try anything.
A great DM knows when you can try, and when you just can't.
None, lmao
I'm not a small being enjoyer, typically
I play big Fellas, Minotaurs, Centaurs, Orcs and the like
just want some inspiration for the falvour of my CL character and I want the small for benefits
My Yuan-Ti player says Halflings are the best. Because they taste best.
xD
I always enjoy letting my players hang themselves with their actions. Sure, go ahead and cast shatter on the walls surrounding the city, it might create a hole for you to sneak in through...
I like firbolgs
My Dragonborn Fighter is biased for Kobolds because his boyfriend is one lmao
Bring back 10' firbolgs wotc
I was thinking kenku maybe :/
I pray for that day.
simply bc u can be annoying with them lmao
Gnome just to say guh nome every 10 seconds.
I mean you can be annoying with any species
My Lizardfolk Phantom Rogue had a bit of a Crush on a Halfling Grave Cleric because she was the first person outside of his sister to genuinely show him kindness lmao
Ive also considered goblin for some mind this and that jokes
or even shadow goblin lmao
Anyone here ever pulled off the two kobolds in a trench coat? [Or any other race variant]
but thats more sth for my abberant mind sorcerer character xD
Oooh, My Aberrant Mind Sorcerer was a menace to society, he was constantly reading minds and when mind reading wouldn't do enough his interrogation tactics were rather cruel, using Illusions and Enchantments to truly mess with them until they gave him what he wanted lmao
oh tbh I just picked the class for a oneshot bc I like hunger of hadar lmao
My fella was an Aasimar from the Far Realms lol
Yeah an annoying player is going to be annoying regardless of what's written on their charicter sheet
If you're going to play an annoying character, at least try to be a little endearing
Have a quirk that shows your genuiness or your desire to be a hero or something
What do you guys consider "annoying", like are we talking a goblin who only says "gibby"?
Honestly, probably the least annoying type of character imo, it's something you can kinda drown out, but it also doesn't add any substance to the party dynamic unless their actions quite literally speak louder than words
I hate the tough guy archetype, you don't gotta be a jerk to your party members to get the point across 🥀
For me annoying characters really don't exist. Annoying players do.
I love occasionally playing jerk characters, but I never really go overboard.. and when I do play those types of characters, I try to have them develop over the course of the story/campaign
I love a slow burn development, but if they are just being a solid jerk and never change for like 15 sessions, im not really gonna roleplay that well with them
An annoying character to me is a person that ONLY cares about enacting their characters flaws lmao
What level of flaws are we saying, like kobold's being portrayed as idiotic 90% of the time [This comes from personal experience]
Yeah, the dumb character who is only THE Dumb guy and doesn't have character besides being dumb is a good example of what i mean
Amazing to know that we agree
Just because your character is dumb, doesn't mean he shouldn't have an opinion on obvious stuff
This reward goes to the kobold character in a campaign I played in who never made any decisions, never had a story, and never did any meaningful roleplay
personally the characters i find the most annoying are the ones where the person roleplaying them gives them 3 (mostly negative) traits and never lets them deviate even in extreme situations
I feel like that's mostly a player problem as mention by Kas, there aren't annoying characters, only annoying players
ex. a character who likes to poke fun at everything cracking jokes during a life-or-death situation
Well, there's also a difference between purely being inexperienced and actually being an annoying person
Im fine with flaws if reasonable and they actually make sense, and aren't always up front
oh yeah the issue isn't flaws. the issue is one-dimensional characters
I had a wood-elf that was fantasy racist in a homebrew world setting that was 50% ruled by "The Empire" which was, you would never guess. [super fantasy racist]
My Knowledge Clerics main flaw is not putting his foot down with the party until they do something incredibly stupid, but he also doesn't want to impose himself on them as compared to him, they're still in their youth
His life goal was to raise wood elves out of being secondary citizens in the empire by slaying the draconic queen, and the planned story arc was for him to realize "maybe the empire is wack"
He just kinda goes along with their plans, but occasionally tries to steer things towards a better outcome, such as not straight up killing every bad person they encounter In Waterdeep and instead turning them in to the law
Guess which 2 characters wanted him dead
The knight from literal hell and the oathbreaker paladin
and why would they want the character who has literally helped them obtain multiple magical items and supported them all the way to die?
because of a bad DM who instigated, that's why table issues should always be addressed
Do you guys prefer pencil paper character sheets, or online character sheets
pencil paper
online
i am very annoyed by "attack first, ask questions after"
I agree unless it's reasonable
Past DM pulled up a picture of some lady with blood all over her with a sword, I shot, and then I got called a murder hobo
If it looks like it's going to kill me, im probably going to shoot
I mean, yeah, obviously
i also specifically hate life clerics, it's oddly specific but life clerics are banned from my tables (not because they're good or anything)
Like, how they act or how they fit in dynamically into a party?
reading the subclass description put me in a coma
What did life clerics do to you
Feels like every D&D player has one specific hatred for a race or sub-class or item
i think it's like 90% from how bad they are in bg3 (my first exposure to dnd) and despite that people praise them endlessly
They are just good healers
I'm not hearing a reason to ban them from a table
There's other ways you can heal but life cleric is just, the healer
i don't actually need a better reason than "I don't like them"
After session 1, the fart sword
and for 80% of DMs it's plasmoid for some reason q_q /hj
Plasmoid has to be like a band wagon of DM's hearing other DM's ban it then they ban it
I don't think there's a single build in D&D that is just "the healer".
not really in that game, all healing spells are pretty bad, but life clerics are barely any better with them and they have 0 domain spells that aren't already available to all clerics
then again, that game made fighters the best healers, so it did warp my perception of healing magic
I don't hate anything specifically, as I don't think anything in this game is worth such strong negative emotions, but I do dislike Bards and Rangers because I just don't enjoy playing them
Aura of Vitality is kinda nice
20d6 for a third level slot over 10 turns ony taking the inital action and concentration isn't terrible at 5th level
Life clerics in 2024 are decently better with the minor buffs to healing spells
the buffs to healing spells in 24 definitely don't seem minor at all
Literally just bandwagon imo
Alright,major then
2d6 for healing Word
People say "Oh it doesn't fit my campaign" when plasmoids can easily be reflavored into being like sentient gelatinous cubes
2d8 for cure Wounds
2d4 for healing word
Even I fell for the bandwagon plasmoid ban when I ran some of my first campaigns
Humanoid oozes just aren't something most settings support.
HEaling word is 2d4, cure wounds is 2d8, good berry is 1x10
So you have to write something in after the fact
tbf plasmoids are probably magnets for certain types of annoying players
Wait, yeah, whoops lmao
Yo
I still think it's a bandwagon, alot of people say stuff about plasmoid but I never see any concrete proof
Anyone have inspo for custom character sheets? Im tryna make as much game or show themed character sheets so it can be diverse
Tokii made a mistake, time to banish him to the shadowfell
oh i dont disagree lol. bandwagon culture is real
What’s wrong with champions
Taking my vacation there already
They're fine though, it's an exploration focused species with some fun traits
there's way more abusable species out there
I mean like I could see the annoying players but that also matches up with the "new player sees really cool and inviting race"
When I first started playing D&D I immediatly wanted to play plasmoid because "That's sick as hell"
I'm not the type of person to hate a class or subclass for "being op", if i dislike a subclass i just think it's uninteresting, which applies to those two(in my opinion ofc no offense if you like em)
I reckon there are a lot of DMs that hate "furry races" and ultimately think of plasmoids in the same way.
Anything can be interesting with effort
Hmmm. I always liked the grunge aesthetic a la David Carson and Raygun magazine. Try a design along those lines?
You can give me literally any D&D combination of class and race, I can make it interesting with enough effort
My go to was kobold until they announced plasmoid and then it was a plasmoid styled after a kobold because that's fun for me XD
If you can make a human fighter interesting, you can make anything interesting
i could never coexist with a dm like that. i will never play a human or human-like race
Maybe one based off of the artist Ghost?
You’re killin me time
I do ban warforged in my campaigns though [Unless they have a really good pitch]
Im gonna check it out
i have a very cool human fighter in my current campaign. the campaign is in avernus, and he's tagging along because he's pursuing his nemesis, who's a fiend from here.
Then again, time kills us all in the end
yep, same; have 0 interest in anything even vaguely humanoid; already play one in real life thank you very much >.>
I'd only ban Halflings >:] /joking
If I have to play with one more warforged player that constantly speaks in a monotone voice and acts like a robot, I might just melt.
Alr found one like that before
I love halflings
The short people with hairy feet?
Same Same Here Here as Well Well
Personal experience.
he told me that his plan for the event his character died would be to make his next character just that nemesis-fiend puppeting his previous character's body and i thought that was metal as hell
No worries, this one speaks like ChatGPT.
i approved of it faster than the speed of light
Halflings are based off of Hobbits, but they don't have overly hairy feet typically lol
They just have them grippers out always, like.. put them DAWGZ away!!!!
they used to be called hobbits until TSR got hit by a cease and desist
My gripe with halflings mechanic wise is that most of their species features really lean too much towards rogue
And that I wish they kept poison resistance
if i play a warforged i'm imitating wheatley from portal 2
My gripe with Halflings is that they're only Half as interesting as a human lore wise, in my humble opinion
just make them immune to poisons that need oral ingestion, make them little eating machines
Oh my god yes, finally a warforged player who doesn't think they have to be an AI butler
Gnomes are more interesting because Garl Glittergold is just a madlad
or glados, that could also be funny
very nonchalant
I have always wanted to play in an evil aligned campaign
Is it such a burden to want to be edgy once in a while
i have never played a good-aligned character. nothing can make me.
I have two KIND OF evil characters atm lmao
Evil divination wizard that uses their portent to make their allies fail
Ones an Alchemist Artificer
The other is a Berserker Barbarian
Warforged Glados with autognome Wheatley in the same party
It was meeee Barry!
The Berserker Barbarian is in the Zhentarim and a worshipper of Bane 🧐
I generally play chaotic neutral/lawful neutral
Zhentarim vulpin swashbuckler rogue is in the works this week
I think next time I write a campaign i will make a Glados-esque DMPC
My one warforged was basically Han Solo. All he cared about was getting paid and getting away with it.
Reverse Flash is just a super fast evil monk
Not emotionless, but extremely professional in his habit.
Most of my characters are Neutral or Neutral Good lmao
Im still traumatized from DMPC's
local lawful evil wizard/sorcerer here
i bring a minthara-esque vibe to the party that the paladin and cleric players are not happy about, but the infighting makes things interesting
I need an evil cleric and an oathbreaker one of those days
Make a Wheatly-esque character have the
"I. AM. NOT. A. MORON!"
Crash out and you've got a masterpiece
*fireballs the party*
Could a moron do that?
Counterspell
Yeah, I do that every day!
yessir
What’s better for a first character between barbarian and fighter and paladin? I want to play a warrior who uses a 2h weapon like maybe a great sword or a war hammer. I just want simple to play and fun to rp as.
I know barbarians tend to be more wild and savage in leather armor and have rage fits, fighters tend to be more heavy armor knights, and paladins are similar to fighters but more holy knights like knight Templar with some healing thrown in
I don’t necessarily need the easiest of the 3 just something that’s not too hard to learn and is a lot of fun for both combat and role play purposes
Thanks
i really enjoy oathbreakers but they might not fit a beginner's party
Paladin probably is the easiest to get RP out of between those 3.
Kk tyvm
All depends on the character you bring to the table, tho
oathbreaker kinda necessitates the player to be evil so keep that in mind. some GMs tend to ban that subclass for that reason
it really depends on what the dm wants, yeah
Paladins do have oaths so depending on your DM you may oath break, so you should read up on your tenets and rp based on them
oathbreaker is also kind of a misnomer
Oathbreaker's one of those classes that really enjoys the house rule of not requiring an evil alignment to play it
you can manage to be evil without being disruptive to a party most of the time, but it's really specific
Very few people can nail the Astarion/Laezel/Minthara blend of evil that isn't griefing your own team of good people
Tell that to my garlic bread domain cleric who somehow switched over to being an oathbreaker after eating gluten free bread
and it's normal that a lot of DMs don't trust that you can pull that off with your character
That's a bit different since Clerics don't even have oaths in the first place, not to mention that Garlic bread is homebrew
The campaign was truly something, I miss it
their vibe is exactly what i go for with most my pcs
The existence of Oathbreaker, and especially by that name, is a bane on countless games.
I actually really don't like good D&D campaigns where the story, roleplay, and combat is good.
Because they always have to end.
So im a little scared, my DM just told me to increase my Hit Dice from a D8 to D10.... what is he planning on throwing at us lol
you want the bbeg gone because you want to save people. i want the bbeg gone because he is a potential rival. we are not the same.
Tyvm I think I will take a few minutes to read up on the oaths in handbook I leave in like half an hour or so to go to first campaign
Just read ch 1 of PHB last night did not get to ch 2 yet
That's, uh, odd.
A couple more hit points won't be saving anyone.
What subclass are you picking, I can give a quick summary
They really ought to call it something else. It makes sense as it is but by that same virtue a lot of people confuse it for the general case of tenet violation
I know throughout my entire D&D career, I will never play barbarian
So many people ignore the whole paragraphs of stuff detailing what happens before the subclass comes into play 😭
Oath of Desolation, maybe.
Expecting D&D players to read is like expecting a dark souls fan to watch a boss guide
Barbarian is quite straight forward mechanically with just rage > fight > use whatever is around you with a weapon or your 2h weapon. Fighters are a little more deep than that having options of going 2h, dw, sword & board. Paladins mix in magic with martial so that's the heavier of the 3 with rules to know.
I'd probably go fighter or barbarian depending on which 'personality' i wanted to RP. Barbarians can be played off as endearing big lugs that just want to help everyone while a fighter might be driven to prove his fighting style and specific weapon mastery is the only way one should fight.
Lots of ways to go about it, envision how you want your character to fight and then give a personality around supporting that.
It happens, but alot of people refuse too
I do have an idea for a non-evil oathbreaker who desires redemption but thinks all his worth comes from the dark powers he embraced & that he will be nothing without them, but it's half-baked.
and like, he'd probably stop being an oathbreaker by the time his journey ends anyway
Even that there sounds like an Oath of Redemption Paladin in the making
yup exactly
A character can only be as good as the story permits
a big part of the experience is figuring the boss attack patterns yourself :3
Wym my characters are the awesomest ever /j
you don't get the "ah i understand it now" feeling if you just watch a boss guide
I love putting 6 hours worth of writing into a backstory for a campaign that ends in 2 sessions
That's more time than I spend writing a whole campaign
still, that's the best i have. a once willingly-evil character tempted by dark power, who's later too afraid to face his past crimes and cannot seek redemption.
It takes me 2 weeks to write a campaign
Gotta write factions, bbeg, noble families, towns, cities, laws, etc
just for it to be wasted each and every time.
I write a problem, pick a published setting and go
ok nvm i kinda wanna rp this
Oh you want to play a pre-made character that dosen't fit the campaign at all, how about I direct you to understanding basic respect.
how funny, how quant, how fantastic
I have 3 pages of written prep for my dunes campaign that's on session 5
So he low-key realized that his worth comes from himself and not the powers bestowed onto himself so he low-key turns into a fighter.👀
can the "darkness" fueling an oathbreaker be fear, in this case?
Me looking at Druid
definitely an option
Im playing druid for the first time soon
me with rogue/monk i think
Favorite class so far has to be either bard or cleric
You will never be able to guess mine
Exceed to me as a player. There's just nothing that a Druid does. That is really that interesting. That isn't already almost comparable to another class. And i'm not a fan of any of the subclasses, either.I think they're almost a little bland for my taste
Idk, turn into animals?
Hi, is there some sort of up to date version of current standard for 5.5e?
while i do think they have the least interesting base spell list of any full caster, they have spike growth, and man i love spike growth
my homebrew sorc subclass gets spike growth
I think I will make a halfling paladin of the ancients because they cherish life and laughter and art and I could see a halfling cherishing those kind of things and good food and love of growing plants
i actually want to brainstorm this idea a bit. maybe an alternative scenario that makes them hold on even tighter to the dark powers
joins good party thinking he can Grow and Improve as a person, ends up feeling proven otherwise, embraces his worst self
i like swordmage
inconceivable
What if we all played human battle master fighters named john
can i be ioannis anthropopoulos
you may be John ioannis anthropopoulos
john john humanman
[only survivor of the tier 4 campaign]
well, john john humanson, more accurately
Something special about being the most non-unique character and surviving to the end
Anyone Have An Idea How To Have Your 14 year old friends that are brainless and somehow still brainrotted intrested in dnd?
bring the topic up to them
Ydah bro ofc but what then
Is there a channel to find people to help brainstrom
Check the #channel-guide
Depends on what the topic is
brainstorming for class and lore names
That sound fun i wanna do that
So #character-discussion sounds about right with maybe checking in #dnd-lore for official D&D lore sources.
(but really, make use of the #channel-guide as it explains what channel is for what)
maybe martials should be able to attune to more magic items
3 is plenty usually, artificers can never remember all their items at once when they have all 6 in my experience
A lot of weapons and armor do not require attunement afterall
so im creating character (cause dm burnout) would a harengon mystic be cool? if so im pondering bacjstory
Any combination of race and class can be cool if you make it cool, so yeah. Just depends on whats interesting to you and how well you develop the concept
yeah agreed. im just struggling to figure out a good bacjstory for them
a harengon mystic seems really fun though
Should not casters be the ones for attuning magical items, i mean they are the ones that live and breathe the weave
Good, evil? Any place in the story?
My intuition tells me its a farmer that attuned to their casting potential and with the discretely hidden power that gives him he fights local crime and evil doing with relative personal ease and earn enough from being a folk hero to not work as a full time farmer but still sticking to his craft.
has anyone ever done some house rules involving how attunement and magic items work in 5e? I can't stand the system
Not I.
oooh cool idea. good. its a feywild campaign is all im aware of atm. session zero is tmmr. but yeah really cool idea
I have been thinking about doing it at some point but have worked on other rule changes instead and kinda forgot about it. I would be willing to discuss it
scratch that, maybe there shouldnt be an attunement limit
go back to the way it was in prior editions
Be lucky that they can even attune to one.
Hello
Any particular reason? Personally all active rather than passive effects with magic from items should have attunement i would say unless there is a work around to make active effects without the persons interference.
So a staff that legs you cast spells are always attunement. Armor that just protects the same over time are not attunement
W pfp
Reminds me of a khajiit
Its a lynx lynx
Yee
Ah you know cats then
Its funny to me that my second character i ever made had the most complicated personality
Oh lol
But they have a small bit of puss in boots in there too.
Oh heck yeah
Its basically 30% of his seventh identity
The rest is shallan davar and Prince Charming .
Oh nice
more horizontal progression mainly. the fighting man had historically had much of their progression tied to equipment in older editions. given how 5e is obsessed with trying to bring back its sacred cows and elements from the older editions they might as well bring back the fantasy of the fighting man wearing 10+ magic items and weapons
it'd at least make fighter less of a bore to play as
I mean you can still cary more than 10 tbf
right but ur only benefitting from the magical effects of 3
Have you heard of non attunement items?
yeah
You can benefit from more than 3
Btw when you say homebrew do you mean the race or class?
Class
How did you make him? I guessed he might be a kensei monk before
Swashbuckler would work too
True
Would it make sense to place a displaced beast against a level 3 party (If I need to nerf it then how should I)
Ok this is my first time playing an eloquence bard and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find it hilarious how good this subclass is
how long does a shadow's strength drain last
till short or long rest if I remember correctly
long rest or greater restoration is highly likely without looking
just checked, no special duration listed; so it's until either your next long rest or until greater restoration is cast on the drained target
yeah in 2014 it was until short or long rest but it doesn't have a duraction in 2024
The rest rules in 2024 clarify that they help with this
is it okay to play dnd with unpainted minis? (i cant paint good)
yeah it's more than ok
can play without minis if its something you cant afford yet
One day they may come up with greatbow that shoots spears as arrows...perhaps one day
Hey so Orcs officially become adults physically when their 12-14 years old
Would I put that as I want my character to be an adult but within dnd it’s says that’s when they become one
different species age differently yes. you do not have to be the youngest adult age of your species however
How long do Gnomes live ? I never thought about that.
350 to 500
This is the same reason that one YouTube made the short about the tavern keep with the book they pull out “species and age?” Before serving a drink to any PCs.
i would still ask players to make their characters at least 18 because my human brain cannot really conceive the idea of any age less than 18 being an adult
I specifically played a 14-y/o goblin in a game where we were attending adventurer school but that’s I think a special case
Yeah I made my orc character 22 which is between 20-40 years in human age
(Note the DM asked us to put the age in “human years”, so I was probably 10-ish in reality.)
We all miss Spurt or whatever.
Being an elf has to suck. All your non-elf friends grow old and die by the time you’re ready to adventure
More or less, they just make new ones or befriend other Elves as a result
In the Dwarf section of PHB it basically mentioned that by the time a Dwarf is truly ready to accept a human as a friend, they're practically on their deathbed
I imagine its similar for Elves in that regard
Pretty sure elves are entirely capable of adventuring as early as their 20s.
they can't age to death before you if you only have 50 years left
No I mean like the human is on their deathbed by the time the Dwarf is ready to accept the human
Ah
Any tips for new dm, new dnd players aswel. I’m being a dm and getting friends for dnd so really 1st overall dnd experience for dm and for the players
Are there situations where greatclub is a good weapon, or do people take it more for character reasons?
Where do i put sorcerer subclass on character sheet? on spellcasting class or features and traits?
Don’t worry too much about getting everything right, but if you do have questions, #dnd-newcomers and #dnd-rules exist
I feel like every time I'm reminded greatclub exists the person I'm building has martial weapon options and can just take warhammer instead.
I think if you take the mastery then there’s no chance anyone is as good at your weapon as you, so there’s that argument to be made
more for fun or character reasons
Sure a hammer or maul is better but a big stick is funny and still useful
im running a campaign where all the players are deeply connected with the fae and cant touch iron
barbarian has a greatclub
Yeah, I feel like it's gotta be wanting to bonk with a big stick, cause every other reason I can think of for great club there's something else that does the same thing but better.
Yo
Do you think elves snug clothes on their pointy ears when they put on clothes ?
Id imagine on accident sometimes
i gave my party magic toques last night, and the 3 american players were super interested like i had made some fantasy thing they had never heard of
Are you telling me they dont know what a watchcap is
America has hats too
improvised weapon most of the time, doesnt loose edge like many slaying weapons, easy to use, cheaper than any other weapons.
Me trying to figure out what that is because I learned English from playing Minecraft
Watching elf figure out fishnet tank top has to be one of the funniest things in the realms
are there any defensive cantrip spells for wizards that are good
Never heard of a watch cap
Its the most basic and most common hat for men at least
Also called beanie
No american can look me in the eye and say they dont know them
Shield, Absorb Elements, Silvery Barb
Random question: what is the absolute highest CR rating an entity can have in traditional D&D context, and what entity have that?
Wait nvm you said cantrips
there are several into the high twenties and low thirties of CR in 5e IIRC
In that case no, defensive cantrips kinda suck
Huh
I know beanie. Those are the poor fisherman in movie hats right?
the Tarrasque is the big one at CR30, but most things up there are named entities, really hecking spooky dragons, and godly aspects
People sure are fascinated with that terrasque.
all of the spells listed are level 1 I'm looking for cantrips
Blade ward is okey
Also wouldn't be most common hat be like baseball cap, Yankee with no brim or whatever are they called ?
Its the most commonly worn headcover in many countries by all classes
Yeah my bad, uhh refer to this
Those are also popular youre right
Can you just look up beanie watchcap please
Thanks for answering! I was searching up how Challenge Ratings are calculated and this popped in my mind.
oh yeah thanks didn't see that thanks
Theyre common and not for poor fishermen lol
Your only real option is Blade Ward but that's not worth wasting a turn on
Though theyre good for people in the cold so fishermen have at it
and concentration, its still at least 1 less of damage to 4
Sickest hats, I have Demon Souls themed one myself
it's way more funny on a non-caster martial class via Wizard Magic Initiate though
just have to open with it if things start looking like a fight but before things come to blows
or if you're out of range of whaling on the thing
but instead of wasting that, use lvl 1 spells for defense and cantrips for offense.
False life, shield, mage armor are good defensive stuff
Cantrips are for offense and utility, have at minimim 1~2 damaging cantrips and then a few utility ones such as light, mage hand, prestidigitation, or minor illusion
literally my setup for my sorcerer
Yes, for offensive in lvl 1 you have, ice knife, witch bolt, magic missile, ray of sickness, etc. Lvl 1 spells are too much utility too but mostly better for defensive
witch bolt and ray of sickness got a massive glow up IIRC from the 2014 versions
Later you can rely in other stuff, considerate positioning well and then teamplay, Staying behind the thicc and strong barbarian//paladin//cleric//fighter are good options
If not, considerate ways to always get the upper hand in the encounters, plan more properly and make plans and ways to solve the encounters
Why do wizards get NOTHING from 5 - 18?!
I guess the spells are a boon enough by themselves
Casters are typically the most powerful class in the game.
Can a vampire use bloodmancy
You get stuff related to your subclass at level 6/10/14 so
Okay thanks
they get a big amount of spells and the sub classes depend too
Mostly is that they get that much spells that they dont rely in features at all
Yeah I'm well aware there's a lot in between haha
It's just funny to see a jump from 5 to 18 in the class features
Wizards are technically like the simplest class in the game if you discount needing to read and understand spells
It happen, considerate that spells are just giga broken. In fact they are like 50% of the appealing in DND
This is me when I look at Assassin Rogue
But yeah, the spell list and being able to copy scrolls are the two major features of wizard
You get stuff at level 3/9/13/17, but the level 9/13 features are to do with disguising and fooling people
I am trying to think of a last name for my human wizard and I googled “human last name generator.” Buddy,,, that’s a phone book
If there is any other wizard and your party slay it, the wizard get one of the strongest upgrades possibles if its able to pick that spellbook.
I wanna get into D and D is there a way to play it ONLINE?
Like without buying the dice and maps and all that
I play online. I use electronic device. I do pay for some maps, though.
na, sorc can adapt spells, change their effects and features.
But I'm a DM.
You may want to check out #dnd-newcomers .
Sorc is adaptability
Druid is nature magic
Wizard is variety
Warlock is raw power
Artificer is an engineer
Dm? That’s what stuck out most to me I guess
druid is big into utility and a decent chunk of healing but doesn't get a ton of amazing damage options
warlock is basicly build-a-class
Yeah, same do fighters getting equipment for upgrade their capacities.
I know it’s dungeon master but that’s about it
They make the story for the campaign and stuff right?
Yes.
Warlock is the cheater of the whole casters section
They get powered spells but few of them at higher levels and they can access to a loooooot of stuff between pact, invocations and subclass
Can be martial, can be casters, can be skill characters, they're secretly bard version 2
Right but how do you like…start off as one is my question specifically for online play since I don’t think I can find people in person to play and stuff
I’m looking at the learn to play Chanel
Like, literally, you can get feats for free, eldritch blast is good, defense too, etc. etc.
bit of a random question
could a cleric use divine intervention to restore a spellcaster's ability to use wish?
pact of the blade is really nice
They're better bards
Not to mention, they are so versatile with their pacts! You can pretty much build whatever your heart's content with them.
i still have the need to get into some Kinda modern campaign like western and get a Warlock//pact of the blade flavored into a gun that shoot eldritch blasts
I was very skeptical about warlocks at first because they're so overplayed but I now understand why they are overplayed. Other than cleric, I have had the most fun playing as a warlock. And I've only had one, there are many invocations I want to explore like the Tome and Chain.
I'm a big fan of splashing them; also has a built in hook in the form of your patron
My primary character runs druid 15 / warlock 5 at the moment, still figuring out exactly what I want her doing though >.>
luckily, there's an invocation for that
except it's just actual guns instead of eldritch blasts, but flavor does exist
was going for GWM longbow but it's kinda silly stat wise; might instead go more into defensive duelist as that'll help with her AC woes even if it eats into her damage
My dm has approved me taking devouring blade rather than 2014 life drinker, but I can't get both at level 12. luckily, it's much better considering all the vampires we'll have to fight, as necrotic damage is not great into them
Why do you think you can get Feats for free?
Lessons of the First Ones
Okay that's 1
you can take it multiple times
Oh cool
a human with 2 levels in warlock can have 5 origin feats
that's... a lot of origin feats

just take all the good ones like lucky, alert, magic initiate
some can be other magic initiates so you have more spells in general
not exactly optimal but very funny
you can take Skilled with a few of them and have proficieny in everything
Upercasting a guiding bolt would be dangerous ngl
i think every class should be designed like warlock where they get "feats" for free as well as a bunch of cool abilities that refresh on short rests and a few very strong abilities that refresh on long rests
just imagine
warlock confirmed new jack of all trades
that's called pathfinder 2nd edition
Warlocks function so differently to every other spellcaster and class, it's wild
yep, that is why i call them the cheaters of spellcasters
warlocks can functionally do almost everything if they want (although they're not great at healing, why did we not improve celestial warlock from 5e)
Not cheaters per se but they do fit like gloves if you multi with other spellcasters
Cuz Warlock slots =/= Traditional spell slots, best of both worlds
I'd go a step further and say they're still stupidly strong if you take them all the way to level 20
Genie Warlock for that god exit
Warlocks are kind of best played as specialists rather than generalists. You take a tactic and focus in on it, your Invocations making you really really good at that one thing. That thing can be a lot of things, but once it's picked you're rather locked in as a Warlock.
I do think genie warlock is quite possibly one of the best subclasses of dnd, it's hard to beat
Taking a whole bunch of Origin Feats sounds neat, but it's not actually that powerful.
The best in many ways
Easily the strongest class bar none with exploits, stays at the very top without exploits too
the good ole glyph of warding every item in your genie lamp for days on end with buff spells, buff whole party before a boss fight
No just god exit as early as level 1 lol
well that too
Its just that you'll get insta kicked after
But is it worth feeling powerful for 3 secs? Yes
is anyone cool with giving me the blade ward details because its locked on dnd beyond and my friend has the players handbook rn
"My Genie Vessel is a Ring of Three Wishes" is very clearly an exploit and probably not intended and almost certainly not allowed at most tables.
just throw all your allies in the lamp, then dimension door away and laugh at your enemies
Yeah Lessons of the First Ones is pretty good but spamming it for a bunch of origin feats can be more of a waste of invocations.
ugh wait this is 2014
This is probably against the rules.
o ok
they are, but I just really like having both available
also silly that I can use my pact slots to summon my Wild Companion familiar
The real fun is
2024 Human Merchant Warlock with Lessons of the First Ones for Tough, Alert, and Lucky
it 100% is but it is really funny
Yeah in a 2024 game, I tried Celestial and my BA healing was so laughable that I just eventually decided to change my subclass. XD
nah, gotta go for skilled skilled skilled
it's so bad, I don't know why the die doesn't bump up as you level up, or that you get a good number more of them
Oh yeah that one's always funny
"What proficiencies do you have?"
"All."
2024 Human Lore Bard with Skilled Skilled is downright hilarious
for real, it feels like it just got included and they didn't actually test it
Negate your Jack of All Trades feature by having prof in everything
I might just take 13 cha and use longbow + finesse via dex instead >.>
Here, have my long rest resource of... Rolls
8 healing!
Let me go slam my head against the desk a few times.
Well Celestial ain't really supposed to be a serious healer
not worth heavy CHA investment if I'm not a huge fan of the social pillar and generally fovus on druid spells over warlock
It's more like a pinch healer. And the fact it doesn't use slots or can be counterspelled makes it valuable. Also BA
the celestial warlock in my mad mage game used their level 14 ability for the first time last game, was brilliant
might take performance proficiency though just for fun
I'd scale the dice to d8 immediately, then push it to d10 at level 8, then d12 at level 15
Still not worth an entire class ability.
Nah, that's why you get other abilities and good cleric spells
