Diablo 3 angels
Fair, but if only DMs say “ hey guys keep your names within the theme of campaign” but it seem like they don’t care
maybe angelo ?
No
wait ima switch to phone i need to toilet
That was information we didn't need
Dont call the angel man angel
How about Bangel
You son of a beholder im in
And they have a bangel on the wrist for that all they had on them that they as a kid they can call their name
I can't wait to try DND but 2024
……. 2024 isn’t bad tho
Could always go after the literary historical paladins from which the class name derives from.
Roland, Oliver, Archbishop Turpin, Ogier the Dane, Astolfo, Florismart, Malagigi, Huon of Bordeaux, Fierabras, Ganelon
I love how much better 2024 is
The first class I play is Wizard in 2014
How Wizard 2024 doing so far?
My group tried going back to 2014 for a bit, we just missed all the cool changes 2024 gave us
ok im back
They can change a prepared spell on a short rest, and now get expertise on an Int skill, and their subclass now gives up to 9 free spells to their spellbook
Or even the sword of the paladins had badass names like Durandal, and Cortana
So the diviner subclass can get a divination spell for each spell level
what about barbatos or Morax
Abjurer gets an Abjuration spell for each spell level etc
Solus
Oh the prepared spell changes on a short rest is a really good change
Yup
🥹
Also they made it way more obvious they can ritual cast a spell without having it prepared
By making an entire first level feature spelling it out
Shy, you can choose any name for your character as long you like it
so that mean...
I can cast-as-ritual Phantom Steed at any time I want???
idkk im bad at naming
Or you be like me and make up names
So long as it is in your spell book
yea same as 2014
Yeah 2014 wasn’t as clear on it so 2024 made it much more obvious
Look up the meaning behind a name, and see if it fit your character personality
Yeap. Names are typically the last thing I give a character
You mean... some terminology has been changed?
Yeah because it isn’t often a person gets to choose their own name
I have everything else figured out before hand. But I am a "serious gamer"
Fadon Afficonnet is a character name is used recently for my wild heart barbarian Aasimar
Meaning: The name is thought to come from the Latin word "morax", which means "that which delays" or "that which stops".
Yeah they reorganized all the spells, magic items, and other stuff to be a lot easier to read
I'm missing the tone you're aiming for there.
You stop the advance of enemies to protect your allies and friends
Or is your entire purpose in life to delay the machinations of something else? Or to stop a great evil? Lots of hooks with that name.
guys can Skyward be a name?
Sure
Exactly
Yes most names have literal meanings. Look at Smith. Smiths are smiths
maybe like Morax the Skyward or something
Considering "Shadowheart" and "The Dark Urge" are canonical names for people in D&D I think you can get away with a lot.
I make things!
The name Skyward means "directed or moving toward the sky" and is used as both an adjective and an adverb. It can also imply a movement to a higher level or greater value. The word is a combination of "sky" and the suffix "-ward
cool
Morax Skyward
matches my character
So would they be given the name Morax The Skyward? Or would that be an honorifics they got after performing some backstory feat?
Skyward Campion
If starting at level 3 perhaps the first time they flew
wait
"ward" as a word also means defense, protection
Names are meant to historically disclose a lot of information to people as quickly as possible both people and places.
Johnson - That's John's son.
Calimport - That's The Djinn Calim's greatest port city.
Imperator Augustus - The Venerable or Great Victorious Commander.
OOH WAIT
Barbara - is just female barbarian.
"Ryu from Streets™" the class
ok idk
what name would be for a protectir of skyes or like wind protector or wind guardian
Skyward is definitely strange as a first but not last name. That doesnt mean a fantasy character cant make it work
Or Skywarden?
welp skyward doesent seem like a name but its cool
Skywalker
yea
Yea, works better as a surname
Skywanderer.
Something something Skyward the something
What guards air?
Destroyer of winds
Air doesnt need guards. Its air
I'd move away from just Skyward simply because it makes me want to say Squidward.
If you mean a protector that flies, thats different
Windstrider
Veter seems like a name to me
kuutar
Might make people think of vader though from star wars or vater from german father
mann
Or vetter which is another relation in german but noone would know that outside
wait lets translate wind in every language
Let's not on main, but the idea is a good one.
Try to find something that fits his origins
breeze in latin means aura
idk whats his origin
uh
Just wait until you become a DM and have to come up with NPC names on the spot.
"The merchant greets you, offering their wares."
"What is the merchants name, DM?"
"Uh, Merchant McMerchantface?"
What setting is this also?
hes from heaven
In the forgotten realms setting?
That's why you come with a list.
Like a guardian from heaven maybe
What setting is this
A setting is the universe you play in
Star wars is a setting
Harry potter is a setting
Forgotten realms is a dnd setting including for example all baldurs gate games
Dont know it but that sounds spanish
I guess youd want a spanish divine name if hes from that settings heaven
The most famous "myth of a gold world" is the legend of El Dorado, which started as a Muisca ceremony of a chieftain who covered himself in gold dust. European conquistadors misinterpreted this and the legend evolved into a mythical lost city of gold, fueling centuries of exploration and conquest
So this is set in the real world but fantasy?
well hes from like heavenly place made of gold
Im lost
Aasimar are typically mortals and not fully angels
They are to angels what Tieflings are to fiends
Themberchaud, get this guy
Begone
in what chanell can i send photos
Cobblepot put that in every channel wow
Photos of what?
weapons
Photos of Spiderman!
Welp cobblepot got hacked?
Question.
What are those wierd tentacle-looking things I sometimes see on a Dragonborn's head?
They look kinda like "Fleshy Dreadlocks" if I were to describe them.
This is probably not the server to post photos of actual weapons
ill just put on my pfp so u can see what im thinking of
That Crest or sometimes called Plume, are horn like scales.
Horn-like?
But they're floppy, like as if extra tails grew on their head.
Do y'all feel warlock is too reliant on eldritch blast as a class?
Horn like scales. Not horns. Horns are bones. But still have scales on them. Think cartilage like your nose or ear
Ohhh ok
It’s either that or pact of the blade
Also, this kinda got me thinking because like, eldritch blast does kinda feel like a staple to the warlock kit
What does pact of the blade do?
Thinking about playing Santa Claus for my next player character i have a character sheet for him
How does this work? Some of Santa's abilities are kinda very op
lord kas do u see my pfp
Pact of the blade allows a Warlock to choose a weapon to Bond with and they can use their Charisma to attack with it
ok nvm
No, it's just how it's designed
I see.
It gets the best cantrip cause it doesn't function like other casters and doesn't have a large pool of slots.
how hard is it to keep track on two campaigns as a DM. i dm since few years but only with one campaign and wanted to start the next after i finished the first. but now im thinking about it
Depends on you
yeah i guess.
i still dont know how to name him
There's a guy here who was running 8 weekly campaigns, personally I can barely handle two
i play only written adventures. no fully homebrew worlds
omg guys
''Benny'' The name Benny has Hebrew origins and means "son of the right hand" or "son of the south," from the name Benjamin. It can also be a diminutive of Benedict, which is Latin for "blessed," or Bernard, which is Germanic for "brave as a bear".
Arcane Trickster rogue, I would just ask my dm for a bag of holding and the naughty or nice list
That definitely helps, wouldn't hurt to try if you do wanna run more games
I'd just be upfront that you're seeing if you can handle running multiple games, and maybe do an anthology
I haven't seen a 2024 druid in action. Are the new changes liked on that class?
Cool,
Lore wise how does your character become santa? Is the bbeg the grinch but rather than killing them you inspired them to change their ways?
Most people I see disliking the changes don't play Druid so I think the druid enjoyers are probably enjoying it
This implies the actual grinch story ends with Santa killing him
I know I love the new druid
guys idk how to name my character
I use name generators
Well I mean by that, usually as to my understanding
Players almost always kill the bbeg.
I am looking at new druid tentatively. Shame I don't like wild shape but like druid. I'm sure I can win with it
witch one
Fantasy name generators
Well the only druid that actually solely uses WS is moon
The rest can use it either for find familiar or their subclass features
Honestly I think it would just be for the fun of playing jolly old saint nick. Do as many Christmas puns as I can at the table and bring my dm's npcs presents whenever I can
(I kinda imagined the grinch being a very grumpy green Torbek aka a bugbear and also sassy, like Jim Carey's Grinch
4:00 wallow in self pity
4:30 stare into the underdark
5:00 solve poverty and hunger across the forgotten realms, (tell no one)
5:30 Jazzercise
6:00 Dinner with myself, I can't cancell that again
Type stuff )
Oh really? Hmm my daydream druid character may actually come to fruition then. Wild shape scares me too much. I don't like making the table wait to find an animal to transform into
Hiii
Stormy skyward
a bit of preplanning can fix that
or stormy the skyward
get a list of animals you like, then get their stat blocks close to you
if you can play a full spellcaster class, you can manage some animal transformations
I’m new to dnddoes enywhere know I can find a dnd template
choosing a spell, or finding out how it works, takes just as much time if youre not prepared
do you mean a character sheet to put the info on your player character in?
haise what y think of Stormy the skyward
Yeah that
dnd beyond has free ones for fifth edition on google
Ty
be careful you grab the right one. there is 2014 and 2024
bit too cute for my personal taste but it would definitely work
or durin but thats more of dragon name
It took me way too long to realize that Druids have built in proficiency for scimitars, and that its basically the best melee weapon for druids
well a child afterall
oh youre playing another child?
ye lol
Most druid types want to save WS for the subclass ability that uses it
Another question
How feasible would a Dnd x Darkest Dungeon campaign be?
And has anyone already tried that?
ok i go now ig
very
the only real homebrew element would be the stress which there are are 100s of homebrews for on google
the rest is basically just classic rpg roles and enemies
ofc youd either have to make clear to your players that player death will happen a lot
or you make it less lethal than the dungeon inspiration
my players feel like they are playing darkest dungeon on occasion
the peril and intensity of my games is very real
I kinda can infer that Leper/ Baldwin is definitely a paladin but, what would be a good way to put the whole Leprosy thing into the game?
I actually love this game, hardcore as hell.
So I've been playing 5th edition since it came out, and I'm JUST learning about the "Climb onto a Bigger Creature" rules, as well as the Disarm, Mark, Overrun, Shove Aside, and Tumble options in combat 😬
leper is a fighter or barbarian
he literally uses reckless attack
second wind for healing himself
Yeah those are less popular optional rules in the 2014 dmg, they don't see a lot of use
the leprosy would have to be homebrewed imo
I mean, those are in the dmg not the phb. So if you've only been a player and not a dm, it makes sense that you may not have known of those.
They seem pretty decent...maybe half baked, but not bad at all
I would say the amount of dungeonmasters that have reat the dmg cover to cover is very few
I could see some fun homebrew rules piggybacking off of them
Also very true @crimson gulch
It's a better read than the CISSP book, at least
You'd think the opposite would be the case, but 🤷♂️
the what?
Lol DND players don't read. It's one of their biggest flaws
My bad i kinda imagined him being a paladin because of the armour, that and only my friend has played the game, not me.
he definitely has paladin aura but the paladin is the crusader
It's an it certificate. Not related to ttrpgs
i was joking about the dmg
Dragonborn in the refresh got tails because no body read/cared that they don't have tails.
No, it's not nessisary to read the whole thing to get started
Plus he has a kind disposition like how you'd expect ppl to play paladins as
whaaat
The what?
i love the distinction with the tail
halfdragons having tails was cool to me and im unhappy with this change. revert it wotc
Half dragons lost their tails????
Dragonborn monk in the PHB have tail
no
I mean... it was already 5e canon that some had them and some didn't before '24
What does that look like in-world? Design of chairs, riding style, clothing!
Sure, but plenty of DMs don't seem to want to finish the job once they've gotten past the initial stage, I've encounter a few DMs who have many sessions under their belt, read the DMG cover to cover, and exclaim, "wow, why didn't I read the whole book before? Useful stuff in here"
chat gpt is cooking smth
Dragonborn aren't (necessarily) half dragon. Canonically, they usually aren't.
Yes it was given to them in one of the books. I think it was acquisitions Incorporated. But the trend of giving them tails was already being mainstreamed by artists everywhere. Kind of like how firbolgs had a brief stint as cow people because of critical role
Yeah I get that, but they kinda said Half dragons, so i assumed every dragon/other hybrid suddenly lacked a tail
Exandria is an official WotC setting, like it or not.
Mercer used the word bovine to describe one character. The other firbolgs in official art do not have that kind of cow-like appearance that the critter community ran with
Yeah the tails were at least a thing since the mtg forgotten realms set
In the realms, specifically tails are seen culturally as a deformity
it really doesn't matter to me. species being homogenized is a massive problem that dnd has always had. If some firbolgs are cow-like and others aren't, that's not a problem to me.
I'm not claiming that it was a problem
I think it also does just play into the fact that wotc really wanted Dragonborn to have their own unique identity, rather than just dragon man. I do respect that, but I think their identity wasn’t very appealing
I'm claiming a larger broader stance of artists. Not reading materials and going off complete vibes. And those vibes sometimes being contradicting to what is previously known or sometimes printed right next to them
And just trying to make it clear they’re not half dragons, which I think as of 2024 they kind of reversed in that they’re trying to make clear half dragons are different from Dragonborn
-# maybe don't call them dragonborn then, lol
Its just like how tieflings are not half devil/demon etc
“Bigger kobold” doesn’t roll off the tongue as well
Unfortunately, xgte made that a thing that is a RAW possibility
Kobolds are better as dog people than dragon people anyway
kobolds are more halfdragon than dragonborn though right?
They’re mostly just another dragon-related species
looks wise
apex kobolds
dragonborn actually look really weird in most art ive seen. i hate it
In current 5e? Kinda, sure. Entirely depends on the setting though.
Also no.
the weird face tendrils
Yeah the 4e/early 5e Dragonborn isn’t extremely appealing
Muddy colors, the scale dreads, short snouts.
Hey guys I'm new to DND and I've made a few OCs for my college portfolio, I thought that playing as one of my characters would be cool, which one do you think I should play as?
-# '24 made kobolds creature type Dragon, sorry
whichever one you think you'll have the most fun playing 💪
Thank you 🙂
Put the options in character discussion and I’ll toss a vote
Which I hate. As I said, they're better as little dog people than little dragon people.
i like the dragon people
Idk how to send photos sorry 😭😭
anyone wanna rate my character?
Should I put it in the character discussion?
Neutral I guess. I don’t have many strong opinions of kobolds in general
That really doesn’t change anything
When Dragonborn creature type is Humanoid, it does
noone?
Yeah and they were mostly just changed so they could stay in the MM and keep the “no species based humanoid stat blocks”
Also to sell them to us later because species with unique creature types are exciting
I'd like the new eberron book now please... giving us that preview when it's already 4 months late was mean
that and selling copies early when it was already supposed to be out
where to post my character sheet for someone to rate it?
Yeah I’m ready for it to be out.
Question for y'all (I think this is the right place to put it, correct me if I'm wrong): How do I get my fellow players to engage in roleplay more? Both me and my DM are frustrated that our friends aren't really taking the opportunities for roleplay. At the same time, the players are complaining that they aren't getting enough chances to roleplay. What can I do to help make sure everyone is having fun?
How do you get image perms
So uhh, how long do goblins usually live?
There is none
Have more NPCs come to talk to them
Then how do you show your charectar
Have the DM asks "what do your characters do?" After describing the room or town or wherever they are. Also when the players wanna make a persuasion/deception/intimidation check, ask them "what do you say?"
One thing I did for a one shot yesterday was ask the players "Why is your character here?
Get them in the head space
Also another option is to write down some scripted lines for guys they are fighting.
When you say "roleplay" do you mean "acting in character and describing actions" or do you mean "social interaction?"
both
Like a ghost at a door way is a spooky fight. But adding things like :
"What ever you are searching for isn't here, only death." or "This place will only bring suffering to the outside world. LEAVE." can give playeres more hints at the story or a chance to reply.
Ok I just wanted to make sure that you're not using "roleplay" to only mean social.
Also if using modules remember that "Hostile" does not mean fight on sight. Just get in the way.
One thing you can do as a player is to directly address questions and interactions to the other PCs in character.
That's what I've started doing and it definitely helps but I'd like my fellow players to engage a bit more too.
And of course as the DM you can just reinforce behavior you like by giving out inspiration.
I didn't even think of that, I like that a lot.
As it is a mechanical incentive to play how the DM likes
Sure, but you can't control them you can only control your own character.
A way of "I think how creative that was take an inspiration." or "Thats a very fun and cool description! Take an inspiration!"
And a reminder if someone gets inspiration while already having it they can give it to another player.
The problem is that they used to do it in our last campaign, but they just kinda stopped this time.
Sounds like it's time to have another Session 0.
Yeah, you're probably right. We need to re-establish expectations and communicate like adults. I'll talk to my DM about everything y'all have suggested. Thanks!
Did they like combat more?
Some do, yeah
Why is almost every server 18 plus does enybody know any active dnd servers that allow beginners and minors
my only thought from personal experience is it just allows to tell more mature stories
#find-a-game is the only place to ask and look for that on this server.
You could try LFG forums on other sites and discord servers!
Also there’s players who just don’t want to play with young people
What’s lfg forums
#looking-for-community also has some
LFG stands for "looking for game/group"
Basically its forum sites dedicated for finding groups as well.
This is a weird, kinda off topic thought but I’ve been thinking about how much the game would change if one wanted to try and focus the spell math more on lower amounts of encounters per day. Something along the lines of having casters get less total spells per day, like just 5 on average for most levels (probably split among 1 highest level slot, 2 of second highest, two of third highest, losing slots as you go). It’d probably need a lot of tinkering but It is just ringing around my head
I think low level spells would need more upcast benefits to be worthwhile though
Upcast shield to gain +1 ac every spell level
i dont think shield is the spell in need here lmao
I think it would very much hamper utility casters, but probably not so much to hurt blasters in low combat per day games
kek (woops accidental ping)
I should say I’m not trying to advertise this idea as good. I don’t even know if it would really solve any problems, just a thought
Is this like a spellcaster nerf?
Kinda. I was mostly just thinking that most casters won’t use all their slots in a day so I wondered if having less slots would have an effect on gameplay
Roleplay focus campaigns would benefit from this more
I never really care to put much thought into 5E homebrew or rebalancing. Mostly because once I start thinking about stuff I don't like about the system I don't stop until I've torn the whole thing down. Like no classes, for example. At which point it would be easier to just play another game. So I just find it easier to accept 5E as it is, whole cloth. With it's good and it's bad.
Which is a fair idea. I think I’m kind of in the opposite camp, I like to see why a system does what it does to see what makes it tick
I don’t like to treat many designs as good or bad, just how it effects the game as a whole
My rule of thumb for homebrew. Casters need no more options
Give assassin rogues d10 sneak attack die
What would it be like for Lvl 1-4 though?
Most of the stuff I add is to balance the martial options to give them more things to do
progression as normal I’d assume
Oh alright
You want to burn their spell slots, give them things that burn their spell slots.
Easier said than done in an RP campaign, tho
Idk it might
Things like sheild would be significantly worse
If your casters aren't using all of their slots you need to be throwing more at them.
My homebrew idea is literally just making Quarterstaves and Spears finesse
Which I agree, but as said before it is easier said than done
No, just run more encounters
I kinda think that’s why it’s in my head. Most DMs probably wouldn’t wanna run dungeon crawls with 6-8 medium encounters just to provide gameplay fairness
Here is how I do it.
"And that is where we will stop tonight."
"Do we get to make camp and long rest?"
"Lol, no?"
Most, but not all 🙂
It doesn't make much sense in the context of the game but it would be cool
Quarterstaff and Spear Sneak Attacks as a Rogue. Interesting.
Yeah it works better with 5 plus hard encounters, most medium encounters can get chucked without spending spell slots
Yeah, in the “intended” game, it’s very possible for casters to conserve slots easier than melees can conserve their hit die
Unless those casters wanna really be spending slots on out of combat healing
Running the game to the daily exp budget is way easier than changing the game in my experience
They can conserve their slots. But after three combats of not pulling their weight it's gonna get rough.
I guess just my thought process is that the DM I’m playing with would rather be writing a fun story than coming up with a bunch of encounters and having to justify that in story (hard to do unless the story is “go in a dungeon”
I get that. So the option is either increasing the lethality of those encounters or accepting caster superiority.
Like I think the intended amount of encounters is a good way to make game balance healthier, but it might not be as fun. It’s like eating a salad compared to a Big Mac
Or play a different system that supports that play style
Dragonborn Ranger sound like it be cool
Yep so if you have one encounter have a spellcaster enemy. They will burn the hell out of slots for counterspell
Honey I’m playing casual d&d players, not gonna happen
not that I really wanna
imo past a certain point with an RP campaign, spell slots don't really matter
And again, I probably don’t even expect to play this nor am k saying “this is the correct way to fix the game” I just think its an interesting thought experiment
You could try Flee's Mortal's style
Since that can support 3 combat encounter adventuring days
I can see that
But you can adjust encounters to be deadlier so you don’t have do multiple (assuming just combat encounters)
i might buy the 2025 monster manual for my DM. He mostly uses old stuff but i do think the monster design is definitely more challenging
maybe for christmas
Yeah. I am hesitant to take things away unless it's specific things like species options or certain spells. Rather that changing core rules by reduction.
Much better imo to shrink the room height by raising the floor.
Like you can have an obstacle encounter like, “ oh look you have to climb this mountain but their is no clear foot holds to climb”
i do think that for balancing lethal encounters, it does become a literal balancing act, as simple luck on stuff like going first on initiative can be the deciding factor on if they dominate and take heads or go down too quickly
Every campaign is an RP campaign, though?
I make problems without planning solutions costabtly
The game is a roleplaying game.
I'm gonna have a circle of liches today circle casting spells
Some campaigns are more RP focused than others
So like ... every pillar of the game is roleplaying. Combat is roleplay, exploration is roleplay, social interaction is roleplay.
You can be a combat focused campaign, and that's still roleplay.
But they have occasional combat
Less lethality of bigger hobgoblin baddie and more
Hobgoblin and 5 goblins while on a caravan road where failure could mean a TPK or all of the civilians you are escorting dying
I think most people understand the distinction, but here's how I'd draw it.
RP - Everyone Lives Happily Ever After
non RP/Combat - Everyone Dies an Excruciating Death
Social interaction and roleplay don't mean the same thing.
eh
I do agree with that, yeah. I just kinda figure that hypothetically, that might just bloat stuff instead of fixing a problem
Easy solution.
Slow the pace of your narrative. This is something WotC sucks so bad at.
Your game doesn't need to be hauling ass from beginning to end the world ain't ending tomorrow.
yeah that is true i do definitely like gritty realism as a rule.
Pacing is important, dnd is a marathon not a race narratively
Downtime and such also are pretty absent from modules
In the game I play, we're mostly sailing from island to island, so there's like days and weeks between major setpieces, decent chance of an encounter on sea.
My Living campaign runs in real time. For example.
The only one that really i think lets that happen is SKT, since its pseudo-hexcrawl
My campaign pace Is largely "oh my that escalated quickly"
It's been running since May 5th 2024. Each IRL day is an in game day.
And we've kind of been doing semi real time. Pretty much a week between each session's events
I go hard and fast
If your campaign involves travel. Do your best not to skip over travel. Sure you can say that you've covered 10 to 15 mi in a day. But have things to do along the way. They don't have to be plot relevant but they can be things to do.
Suddenly, Orcs attack
Not to mention this will make your ranger players feel really happy.
also we really haven't had that many combats. I just dont think my DM likes long combats that take most of the sessions. Lots of combats end early for story reasons, or are things like croud brawls where it is mostly non-lethal
Even small amount of combat
Pathfinder for martial superiority
Or a random ancient ruin
Can an Orc Chieftan be a good first arc baddie?
or just the DM ruling a lot of luck based stuff. A sorcerer took a yuan-ti abomination completely out of a fight with a level 1 cause fear spell alongside a nat 20 intimidation.
Yeah
Sure
I was thinking it’d be too weak
Orc chieftain is a pretty good first act antagonist
Nah. Rule of thumb, they would never fight alone.
From what I've been seeing, isnt most campaigns now are RP-focused i think?
do it backwards
Have a Tarrasque, Lich and THEN Orc Chieftan as a BBEG
Especially not a party of adventures.
You said arcs, are they connecting arcs
Chieftains are leader type enemies. Solo, they suck. With minions and in their own forts and camps? Theyre pretty neat
Mythic campaign where the BBEG is a human commoner
Draw Steel/D&D 4e for true balance
I was thinking connecting arcs yeah
All D&D is RP. It is a roleplaying game.
It dangerous out their, here take these minions with you
in the sense of "Campaign that doesn't really care that much about combat balance, moreso just about having fun and character interaction/telling a story" I'd say so
its just what more people expect out of d&d these days
Hard to say if it's "most", but it's certainly a popular style. Not my cup of tea, but obviously different people want different things out of the game
at least if youre not running something like a prewritten its definitely common, but i will say its not totally black and white
If you look at published modules, most/all will try to split the difference
It varies. There are certainly more now than there were in the past, but I’ve played plenty of campaigns which are still combat focused dungeon crawls.
i do wish there was a better term for those types of games. Something like "Casual style game" seems kinda mean (I'll say I think I have the most fun playing d&d with these types of games, but its definitely about the social aspect more than anything)
Rp focus is such a weird thing, because the rp never stops in My games
Honestly I think if people understood that even full on combat is also roleplay they might make it more interesting.
Do you mean a "Beer and Pretzels" style game?
when I think of RP-focused, its just telling a good story abit more seriously
kinda? I guess by casual, i just meant less interested in the mechanical bits
idk if i thought wrong
Can we stop saying RP vs Combat as if they were different things?
i think you can have beer and pretzels dungeon crawls
although thats why i like playing Old school games
Yea there somehow seems to be this idea that a "traditional" combat-focused dungeon crawl is somehow devoid of all RP, but it's called an RPG for a reason, it's not a table top war game with faceless soldiers
Yeah that's called "Beer&Preztels" style where you just get together to chat and loosely play D&D non seriously.
If we stopped using the term "RP" to only mean socials, it might help.
I agree, we need better language on this
Yeah RP isn’t social only
I mean, I think I enjoy getting serious about it, but maybe more on the theatrical/storytelling aspect? this game was the first time i've really been attached to a character like this in years
maybe the real difference was the friends we made along the way
Beer&Pretzels is not about what you do in game, but about how you approach gaming as an attitude.
Oh taking the theatrical side of it seriously is like a hmm ... Dramatic or High Drama game, I think?
So start with you. Stop calling it "RP focused" because every D&D game is all RP.
What would you sugges then other than "RP focused campaign"
We lead by example.
more or less, yeah. I might even just say "Character-focused" but i admit thats still vague
would Theatrics-focused be accurate
Well if you're talking about a Socials heavy game, you can say that. If you're taking about a game that takes the Narrative seriously say a Narrative Focused game.
Theatrics Focused sure, but that's more about the acting part rather than the story flow, which is a slight difference.
Like if all you want is a chance to act in character and really get your part correct, but don't care as much about the story staying coherent and flowing.
I love being theatrical
I like "Narrative Focused" because that's placing emphasis on the story.
yeah I think there's also just a lot of me trying to let go of my mechanical fiddliness in it and enjoying whats in front of me. I played a rogue for that very reason, and I'm definitely enjoying relying on smart solutions rather than spells
also I'm debating if my boat has room for a chicken coop, for the crew of course
Hahaha ... yeah, I'm beginning to discover that. 😉
You fluster me so, Ophid 🧐 /joking
Me too, because I have never played at a table where the game was run like I run
I run into this problem too
I only DM a handful of times a year
I enjoy playing to take my mind off of things but I’m definitely so much more invested as a DM than as a player
I dm a lot, 8 sessions this week
1pm at the shop today and 8pm online tonight
When I'm a player I have to spend so much time stopping myself and waiting because I'm used to being in charge as dm, but I refuse to backset dm unless they ask me to weigh in on a rule
Heya folks
I'm going to be dm'ing for the first time, any tips?
Roll in the open so when you crit they see the 20
how do i play with other people?
Allow silvery barbs so the crit roll above never happens /j
Do people play actual DND rounds on this server
No. We do not host games on this server (this is noted in the server rules)
how do i play then

Hi, how do you build an a antimagic paladin? Like a mage hunter, made to counter mages
Paladin is already fairly perfect for this, you want to be both fast and have high saves
as for how to fight one when you are already in the melee range... i will be honest with you
Disarming action their Spell focus
Plus with 2024 have enpelled equipment you can try to get one with counter spell or similar spells
What feats I should use or take? Mage Hunter is a must, as a human Spellfire Spark could serve as a way to reduce magic damage?
There's also the Mage Slayer feat
tho this is very specialist, and there are probably better options
Problem with fighting casters is the fact you never know what you gonna get with them
You want a way to close the distance and a way to obstruct their vision
Once you get rid of their vision and spell focus, they lose 90% of all their tools
though same can be said for any class outside of monk
Never realized how fire monk is for a class
I’m building a Monk/Rogue and he’s pretty good
Not very charismatic though lol
Monks rock, the one in my game last night folded a dragon like laundry
Awesome
What’s annoying about my character is that he has no charisma at all which makes NO sense seeing how much aura he has
You'll get more charisma eventually don't worry
Get yourself a tome. Or hopefully earn a bonus feat as a story reward or something
REALISTICALLY SPEAKING, if I use tomb of LEVISTUS while grappling / holding somebody, can I technically freeze both of us and give additional temp hp to both?
You guys think using a wish spell for essentially the ability of taking fragments of peoples powers is worth it?
No
No
(Taking languages, racial abilities, proficiency’s)
Damn, well I’m assuming hiding behind the cube could still count as cover lol but oh well
Cover, sure.
effects do what they say they do and nothing more
Warrior of the elements monk
i need to be free
It comes with the PHB
20 levels of druid feels free
the best way to fight a caster is to strangle them
can't speak (choking)
can't see (losing vision due to asphyxiation)
dying (being strangled)
The best way to fight a caster is murder
lvl 3 max
I’m trying to learn more about how to play the game. I was playing for a little bit last night with a friend that was a DM. I would like to see if anyone will allow me to join with them and play with me for a little bit more so I can learn more stuff about it.
gtg
I’m new to this
choking is not included in combat rules
I mean I'd rule it'd just use drowning rules
Lacking choking rules: Darkness spell. Grapple. Disarm their spell focus or their component bag.
it'd be a lot of grapple checks/saves
Don't. You just turned grapple from a good option into the best option
do you know how long it takes to drown to death in dnd
what would a swimming check be? dex, strength?
athletics
oh i see
watsup nerds how do i play
i've heard that in previous versions of d&d people would take their armor off for swimming checks because it was basically a death sentence
Wait.. so is that a yes? or is it purely up to DMs disgression?
I'd interpret Athletics as your ability to swim, but might call for a CON save if the swim distance is long, or in rough water.
And everything was a death sentence in previous versions of D&D 🙂
just got accepted to art school let's goo
Correct
well there's no surprise there.. it just sounds insane that wearing armor in water was basically instant death
I do. It does not matter. Implementing such a rule thoughtlessly would still break the game
#looking-for-dm I’m trying to learn more about how to play the game. I was playing for a little bit last night with a friend that was a DM. I would like to see if anyone will allow me to join with them and play with me for a little bit more so I can learn more stuff about it. #find-a-game
also are vampires a thing in D&D? just want to know cuz I'll be DM'ing for the first time
Is Salazar a good dnd or fantasy character name
Yes. Monster Manual
yes of course they are
my friend that is 10 checks/saves for every +1 that the strangled has to constitution
Super badass, go for it
castlevania type vampires
It's a real name. Portuguese
Yes. That would still unbalance the game.
aka will not work unless you can successfully knock out anywhere from 5-50 checks
it's a side gig, I'm starting software study next year
I wanna get some more figurines
I had a character concept for a Lenonin Ranger that fought bare handed, his name was Atlas, because why wouldn't I name him after the guy who lifts the world on his shoulders?
I should play Atlas one day 🤔
samurai ranger shinkenger
is there any fox people figurines that would be good for a furry campaign because I wanna do a furry themed campaign with some of my furry buddy’s
You could play a Tabaxi and reflavor it as a Fox.
Or, alternatively
Play a Shifter and have their hybrid form be fox-like
casually remembered I have a Master Sword and elf ears back from when I cosplayed Link
Man.
I wanna make dnd stuff
A METAL MASTER SWORD
Is anyone willing to help me
Sora from Kingdom Hearts?
Nope
I did that already
aww man...
humblewood is a third party book that has Vulpin a fox humanoid.. you might find figures for that
I think I wanna run a one shot in my HB setting sometime in the next couple weeks
Something involving a train firearms, and maybe a Dragon.
Are maximilians earthen grasp or dust devil any good or should i just stick to web?
They're decent.
Web is just really good
I see, alrighty
what if the funny tavern bard is actually an evil amazon alexa.
What about dragons breath? Maybe if i use it on a familiar?
Y’all ever play grung for a campaign?
rhymes with grug
Nah, but I'm playing a Tortle in one, am I still based?
His name is Artanza, he's a Knowledge Cleric 🧐
KNOWLEDGE!!!!
If I were to play a Grung, it'd have to be a Barbarian or a Monk because well...
Yes.
okay, what if i say the main transportation method is a 2005 F1 car.
What are some control spells to consider as a level 4 sorcerer if we already have a cloud of daggers in our party?
DMs, how do you guys deal with a paranoid party/player?
Except web
That's just every party /hj
I pulled out a magical cursed dagger with my hand instead of using something else and almost got murdered by ghosts today
Will be doing that again, was worth it
Average D&D player action
Do you feel responsible for their paranoia?
(That's why most of my characters have Proficiency in Arcana)
Im not a DM but was curious as to what the responses will be
Yeah it was peak. Like when later a dragonborn knight asked us not to light a lighthouse so we did and he called a dragon on us. Later i died and reincarnated as a halfling so now I'm small
💀
In our party the most intelligence anyone has is +0 i think with me and fighter having proficiency in history
Damn full martial party?
Oh
We're quite the charismatic bunch if i say so myself
Sometimes, paranoia is exactly the effect you want to achieve
What if they were paranoid throughout the entire campaign?
Well, i can't really answer that, I'm not at your table
That probably means they've had very bad experiences with dms before or watched too much false hydra videos
Oh fair enough
Or at least those are my guesses
Btw is grabbing a level 1 spell at level 4 instead of a level 2 spell fine?
Like, I'd need more details about whence this paranoia. Was the campaign suffused with bait and switches, traps, curses, backstabbing? What do you think is the source? Are you not paranoid as well? If not, what makes you different then than the other players?
Validate it. Have things really be out to get them. Reward the precautions they take.
That's actually really good advice
Once you reward the precautions, they are no longer paranoid. They know what is out to get them and can calculate appropriate countermeasures
The campaign im in is heading towards that direction, yes
Which are everyone examining eich door and and chest and room and casting alarm before long and short rests and detect magic on everything
Also sending familiars into every room before walking in yourself
Then without knowing much else, I'd say some DM is rubbing their hands together and chuckling evilly, this is all working as intended.
They shot down the familiar Eagle I summoned last time so i guess that wont be working anytime soon
Still glad I got my poorly built Wizard killed tho
I wonder how a two headed Dragonborn pc would work
Why stop at two?
Or three? I think we know where this is heading
To be fair, that's standard dungeon crawling behaviour.
Give it five heads, each of different colors
Why not 1trillion heads
Hydra dragonborn
Yes yes, agreed. Wow, we have made a very original character
Discounttiamatborn
It’s perfect.
Amazing what the imagnation can come up with!
Tiamat from Temu
Hey Amity I came up with a cool ranger idea
Hi
Wehavetiamatathomeborn
I would be careful, Tiamat is a Archfiend she can lawyer you for that one's soul
Temumat
I'm a DM, she can't hurt me
Counter lawyer her back, so Temumat becomes the real one
Could she lawyer against five headed dragon from yugioh
Has temumat become the name now?
Yes 😎
Wow I invented her name
Halberd Hunter Ranger anyone
I have no idea never touched ranger ever
Was Temumat the result of a monkey paw'd wish from a worshipper who wanted to summon her
Pretty sure Cracker was making one
That was me
Whats a ranger
I think it’s a type of jeep
Don't they protect parks?
Oh yea tru
Yea jeep rangers they drive around shooting poachers
Who else is imagining a jeep with a hunting rifle strapped to it
I didnt know park rangers were a thing in DnD, imagine if they could mark a spot on the ground and anyone inside that ground takes more damage
That would be cool i think
Isn't that just a worse hunter's mark?
(I think that’s what spike growth basically does since it’s a trap spell)
Is dragons breath decent when used on a familiar?
Hey cracker
Hai!
What you think is a good species to use with halberd hunter ranger?
Human is a classic for a second feat of course. I expect goliath to also be great
I throw in Dragonborn too
You could do elf and flavor it as like those fancy glaives, or do human and maybe treat it like a boar spear , ultimately I never really see hunters with halberds since they’re more of an anti human weapon
That doesn't sound bad at all
Dwarf can also work too
What do you think of halfling?
Pretty much any species can work. Warforged helps supplement your AC, so does Tortle.
do any of you have tips on giving your characters flaws that are genuine
i tend to make my characters too silly and the only real fear i can think of is "losing the party ive grown to love" and thats just so generic it can apply to anyone
Can for sure work
Base it off people you know irl
Tbh any species can work really
I love the idea of a halfing carrying a weapon twice his size and just wrecking everything
Real human flaws are only found from other people irl after all, just improvise on it after
Addictions are usually my go-tos
You can think of the character personality first
Actually gnome can be good too for advantage on saving throws too
Already am
I based my characters flaws based on their background
One of my favorite characters is gnome barbarian with a maul
I thinking a big harpoon as the halberd, and have this character be a Sheriff that was a fisherman from a ocean side town
Make the flaws something that are a part of them that is often difficult to actually remove themselves from. Being impatient, being nervous, having prejudices, being jaded and cruel, naive idealism, an impulsive nature, hedonism, envy, etc
Stuff where they can still exist and have a life, but it influences their decisions and downtime, and can get in their own way
Work in progress
in this case im struggling because the character was too open
it was my first character and i built wrong and didnt understand the game. a barbarian tortle, then switched to monk, ended up 2 barb 5 monk, pulled a bad card from a custom deck of many things and he disappeared and was replaced with a new character
said character didnt vibe with me so my old one can return as a full monk, but that has rendered his background and pretty much everything obsolete. He is a level 8 monk now, no real history or problems, no family, its too open its hard to close if you know what i mean
i especially struggle to make him flawed as a monk since a strong state of mind is his forte, without making it silly like "he meditates thrice a day but still needs to paint his face before combat" as a dumb example
prior background was effectively a teenage mutant ninja turtle trying to find his rat cleric dad lmao
You can always make a completely new character or ask to make them full barb maybe?
You don’t need historical problems or family issues to have a flaw, a lot of people’s flaws come solely from their own personality or mindset despite taking themselves sincerely
yeah true
But I would also agree with cracker
List of other tricks you all can use:
- An unseen servant with orders to administer a healing potions to downed party members, open doors for you and pick things up.
- Always have detect magic up.
- Corners can be dangerous! A small pocket mirror or a familiar can help you check them out without risks.
- Resting is important. Being attacked while resting sucks. Alarm, rope trick, tiny hut, magnificient mansion and cordon of arrows all help!
- Rope trick is an hour. But you can take 10 minutes inside rope trick to cast tiny hut.
- Stay close to your paladin and use bless. Saving throw buffs are good.
- If you have an elf in your party, don't bother setting up watch turns. Just let everyone else sleep 8 hours.
- Keep a journal to protect against memory modification!
- If you have a home base, regularly have everyone step through zone of truth or detect thoughts to check against possession, mental influence and betrayal
- Blindsight. Full stop. Get it. Get a familiar that has it.
- Have dispel magic. Always.
- Have gust of wind. Always.
- Every week, cast dispel magic, restoration and remove curse on the whole party, for hygiene.
- Shapeshifters are bad! Break a vase, have every party member carry a piece, check by mending the broken object together. A fake will not mend with the rest. An alarm spell designated to not be set off by the party will be set off by imposters. Arcane lock works the same way.
- Related: Cast arcane lock on every container of your party. Backpacks, pouches, everything.
- Back-up weapons. Always.
- Set up magic mouths on your possessions to scream "thief" if your things are taken without permission.
- In a zone of truth there is a simple way to lie. Set up magic mouths on your clothes. Move your mouth as if speaking to replicate what the magic mouths are saying.
Imma take this
can i join a game
Sounds like a great plan, thanks!
plz i love the jist it just seem s hard to get into it
I'll still go full ahead with my 26 hp sorcerer and open the door after a simple glance over 90% of the time but sometimes this can be useful
down for a low level or whatever at this point ive wanted to for years
you can find out how to use our looking-for channels over in #find-a-game
Sure. But as you get into dangerous and heavily guarded places, you might want to implement more and more of those
i cant message in there
Lookin for dm for me an my boyfriend also players could also join up to 2 or 3 players preferably 18+ would like homebrew a campian has not been made yet manly playing when we arent working.
Cast fireball every time there's an open space you can't see
I know it's a joke but for people thinking about that: No, don't do that
im not doing to great as a human rn
not yalls fault but i just kinda wanna get out of my skin
Just cast light on a stone and throw it there maybe
The dm can twist it so that theres actually a really good magic item in said empty space and you destroyed it
Better safe then sorry I'd say
Valid
ok maybe another day we can talk but i guess i should go for now
While quietly sobbing
Oh: antimagic places exist. If you are thinking about it, there is a simple way to check. Antimagic will turn off an object with a light spell on it, but not a torch
If you are worried something is an illusion just throw a rock at it
unless someone wants to run a tiny game
That one is good
nvm
Can also do this with a small item with presdedigitation
Anything for cursed areas or items?
I like getting curses because curses are entertaining so I’m happy when they happen
If need stay sneak
Time to use this to fuel my character's paranoia
Depends on the nature of the curse. But the advice of "once a week, cast remove curse, dispel magic and restoration on everyone" applies
Does getting turned from human to halfling count as a curse?
Yeah
What if a party member accidentally attuned to one, would it still work?
Wish me luck, I’m playing dnd with my family and a couple of friends
funny dialog idea: if two party members ever form a dynamic duo, write them a signature like introduction of sorts
Most of the problem with cursed items comes from mindset. If you’re already a psycho, the evil sword can’t make you worse 🙂
Then i got cursed last session after reincarnating myself from death by cold dragon via wild magic
Prepare for trouble
then at some point in the campaign, if they feel like it, have one go "TO PROTECT THE WORLD FROM DEVASTATION!!– wait wrong script"
At least my parents won't recognize me anymore
where Meowth
Jessie and James were so peak fr..
Yes
How do I get permission to post in the LFP channel??
wild west firearms in medieval european-style fantasy my beloved
there's instructions in #find-a-game
you don't need permission - only bots post there. #find-a-game has the instructions and you can type the commands in any of our chat channels you can type in (like this one) and the bot will post to the right place
ok well again im looking for a trainer tonight to hit an hour or so game so i can learn if not then ok ig
Thanks I'd missed that
Thanks, just saw it
ik "looking for game" but i need a trainer"
have you read through the basic rules? folks over in #dnd-newcomers can help with any questions you might have, but reading the free rules is a great start
i just wanted someone to help me out and do a faux game
i did a faux game last night
i learn from experince becasue i have short term memory so im sorry if im not going from the rules my bad
i mean no harm
What's a faux game
like not a real game like a short game
Practice game, I believe
Oh i see
So like a one shot?
because teh numbers n shit confuses me
she tried to explain it and i got it for a sec but then it just kinda died in my brain
because modifiers and stuff
base and modifiers confuses me
Once you get used to it, it’s fairly easy.
yeah i mean its just my brain tho
Well you haven’t gotten used to it yet, so it’s not easy.
It can be hard to keep track of all the different modifiers, especially in combat, I recommend adding them all together and writing somewhere on your page " + X to attack" or whatever
yeah she had me on the one website where you can just click to do your roll on certian things
Every 2 base stat that goes above 10, your modifier increases by 1. If you’re proficient, you also add your proficiency bonus.
There have been so many times where My DM is like roll attack and I'm like what the heck do I add to this
if anyone is awake enough tho to just chat with me and do a faux game im all here and thats what i want tbh
Roll 20! It's great A little hard to customize but great
yeah i think that was it
I'd be down, I would only have time to run probably like one encounter
thats fine
Sweet how do you wanna do it
Let's do it in here! One sec
oh ill join in
You can’t play in here I don’t think folks
Nope, if you want to RP you have to take it off server.
Ok let's do a private call
ok call me whenever then
sorry guys my b
added you btw
i have my pvt settings n shi
How would you use invisibility?
I’ve had this concept for an encounter for years now, but I’ve never gotten to use it
Two bosses, a spellcaster and a barbarian, but at the start, the spellcaster casts greater invisibility on the barbarian boss
-# do you mean greater?
Then the challenge is trying to break the spellcaster’s concentration on the invisibility spell while the invisible barbarian wrecks shop
Yes, I do, Ty
True invisibility... aka, banishment
Haha true
How come banishing smite requires the target to be under 50 HP and doesn’t even act like actual banishment while banishment doesn’t have a HP requirement and can end fights?
Hello
True Invisibility aka, Disintegrate
Hell, if it's at 50 hp, you might as well kill it at the point lmao
WoTC being the great game designers we all know and love.
Have been a barbarian with greater invis on me, was ridiculous, can confirm the strat
Goly that sounds scary
Btw how does dragons breath save interact with innate sorcery?
Looking for a game
Ok
The DC is increased by 1 like all save spells
Not invisibility but similar. Made a encounter in the desert. Party was camped at a shack. A caster was carpet bombing them from a cliff and rouge was digusissed a cactus incing closer to them.
It's a magic action though, not exactly casting a spell. Would it still work?
Yes
Alrighty, thanks!
That’s what I thought
Wild magic sorcerer with innate sorcery, tides of chaos, lucky feat and lucky from halfling sounds like it can't get a 1
!new sorcerer
Bruh, what's the right command
!create new sorcerer
/new sorcerer
?new sorcerer
?tag new sorcerer
Sorcerer
Wield magic innate to your being, shaping the power to your will
Sorcerers wield innate magic that is stamped into their being. Some Sorcerers can’t name the origin of their power, while others trace it to strange events in their personal or family history. The blessing of a dragon or a dryad at a baby’s birth or the strike of lightning from a clear sky might spark a Sorcerer’s gift. So too might the gift of a deity, exposure to the strange magic of another plane of existence, or a glimpse into the inner workings of reality. Whatever the origin, the result is an indelible mark on the Sorcerer, a churning magic that can be passed down through generations.

I'm lost too 🤷♀️
Hi lost too, I’m Nugget
You're a witch, burn him
Burn him even if he isn't a witch
To be a witch or to not be a witch, that isn’t the question
Burn him at the stakes
You know, I've been thinking
Why the hell isn't there a Fey Bloodline for Sorcerers yet?
SOMEONE ELSE GETS IT
Draconic, Clockwork, Aberrant, Wild Magic, Shadow, Divine, Spellfire, Lunar, Storm..
But like
No Fey, Demonic, Giant..
I need a fey and fiend sorcerer NOW
Giant I understand why not. I can think of only one that can cast spells
Rune Magic is a giant thing, though.
Although, I have just gotten an idea for a giant subclass for my battleborn class
A Fey-Fie-Foe-Fiend Sorcerer?
Good point.
Good one
I cast fireball
I tap two islands and cast Counterspell.
How much damage would a 500 pound boulder do?
Also, my argument against that is not every Aberration or Construct (though I'm aware Clockwork is more related to order) Casts spells either
It depends.
That's a good point too. I have switched sides now
If it's yeated at their head
There also needs to be a Giant Patron and a Dragon Patron for Warlock.
There are plenty of Otherworldly Giants and Dragons!
ALSO...
Wizard needs more interesting subclasses, because Bladesinger feels like the only nuanced one to me and it bugs me
It depends.
On what?
I've just been using pointy hat's dragon patron subclass but idk about it
Who's Tasha?
Velocity, density, atmoshperic conditions.
My wife /j
nah we getting GOO sorcerer first lol
Someone else can give you a serious answer
Well, the damage can range from 0, to 1d4, to a LOT
DM’s discretion
Aberrant is literally that.
Hopefully my dm can let the a LOT slide
Actually, I must support my wife and glaze her
ALSO, Monk, Barbarian and Druid need more love
They've barely got any subclass UA's
Especially Druid!
Only having one.
Ok
O, then please tell
She's like, the coolest non-evil spellcaster in the game's lore. Raised by the queen of hags, she became a legendary wizard and just did cool stuff her entire life
I'm going insane here, I'm gonna start homebrewing and trust me, NOBODY wants that
I demand more nuanced and interesting subclasses IMMEDIATELY
She lived on the plane of gloom, Hades, for a time, she made a bunch of spells, made enemies and lovers with demon lords (well, one specifically)
guys what spells are there that control minds like i know about wish, suggestion, command but idk if there are more?
She is chaos incarnate and I love her
Crazy. I thought she was evil though
Way too many, imo. Geas, dominate person, crown of madness, and more
Wish isn't specifically a mind controlling spell lol
Nah she's chaotic neutral
cool ty
Ah i see
its still in the same
Crown of madness, impressive
The only difference I can tell between the mind control spells is just the spell level they are
No no I was just listing mind control spells for shy. All of tasha's spells are named after her
I don't understand that take, yes, it's a spell that can do anything, but... it's a spell that can do anything.
Alter the fabric of reality
Ohh oki
Like her hideous laughter?
witch ones are lvl 4>
Tasha's hideous laughter, tasha's bubbling cauldron, that's all i can list for now
Suggestion isn't exactly mind control ig but it's broken
yea
Interesting
Just checked. There's one called Compulsion that's at 4th level. A bard spell
Ngl I'm getting dragons breath and casting it on my warlocks familiar. About to make them feel like the coolest guy ever
cool
One of my players cast suggestion on an NPC who was secretly a spy for the villain, the players told them they cannot lie and will answer all questions immediately... and they somehow still didn't figure out they were the spy 😭
Also might grab create bonfire for a concentration cantrip
im making one character from one serries
High int low wisdom party
Dear all Warlocks who complain about their familiar being frail
Cast mage armor on them so they have slightly higher AC then maybe they won't die so much
Thanks for coming to my TED talk
Not even that, all charisma, no int or wis
players are always the weakpoint in any devious machination
Ngl that's my party. 3 warlocks a sorcerer and a fighter
amity i can send a video with the powers and fighting scenes so u can maybe help me a bit of in making her but im gonna make her a male
That's hell.
nah, thats a lesson about to happen
Sure. But also I dare you to keep her as a woman /lh
aww mannn
Last session our fighter also wasn't able to join us and we took a hostage whom we're trying to keep alive. So it was quite a difficult battle without a frontliner and with liability
i cant dm u 😔
have you tried, FIREBALL!?
Just a precaution
But it's all good fun
Btw how useful could create bonfire be?
Can be really useful at a chokepoint
its great at level 1
its bad by level 3.
Ah ok
My friends keep getting arrested today
I have mind sliver, shocking grasp, sorcerers burst, minor illusion and prestidigitation rn
Irl or ingame?
a lesson enacted
Ah phew
Is this a good selection? I also have mage hand from telekinetic
shocking grasp is pretty bad in most cases
As a DM I love arresting players
mage hand is something you should absolutely have
Alrighty
Although I rarely undulge in it
I took it for melee to disengaged but now that i can do the push ability with telekinetic as a bonus action I don't need it as much ig
What would you suggest i replace it with?
as a squishy sorcerer in melee, you should be Disengaging, and moving away
not trying to fight in melee with bad cantrips
I mean, it's essentially disengage but with 1d8 damage
Though you could miss ig
Sorcerers have advantage on all attack rolls when in innate sorcery so odds are good but i get you
So what would you replace it with?
ah right 2024 stuff
It depends, I would take my DM's combat styles into consideration, as well as the overall campaign setting.
I see
Jokes on you, I'll fight with bad cantrips anyway!
did you take Shield (level 1 spell?)
I've been using a bunch of mind sliver last session though it's ability wasn't brought up once
I have shield, mage armour, chromatic orb, detect magic, web, enlarge/reduce and dragons breath
so you're level 3+?
4
What are you enlarging/reducing?
I think it could be useful on our fighter or to do it with a bolder, throw it at the enemies and then lose concentration and enlarge it back
very DM dependant
I see. Tbh I don't mind replacing it, i just don't know what else to pick
idk how enlarge/reduce works but it sounds usable
enlarge a door as a barricade, or reduce a door to get past it
Enlarge reduce is neat
It probably requires quite a bit of creativity though
I love enlarge/reduce
I had a druid character who was best friends with the barbarian of the party and in almost every serious fight, she cast enlarge on him
Interesting, sounds great
She was a halfling, so sometimes he'd lift my druid up so she could get a better view for her spells
I personally have web and dragons breath on concentration though
I love dragons breath
It sounds like a really cool spell to me, especially since one of my warlocks has find familiar
But i can also give it to my fighter and let them do more then sword fight
i like enlarging my friends as a joke as they try to walk through doorways i dont think they should walk through
or shrinking them down, and punting them out of the diplomatic talk...
Now that's a good prank. I gotta try that
Odd Question: How many level one players could defeat a Tarrasque?
1
You can if it 2024
Bet
Yup
The classic Aaracokra cleric trick?
whatever can fly
Experience Dm: you think I let you do that here, easily?!
im new to DND how do i create a campaign for dnd beyond
bro the stranger things pack is so peak ❤️🩹
How much is it?
42 pounds for me [UK], it's probably different for you
but it's good! pretty well-made maps, premade characters, it's got a good 4-part adventure and whatnot
The people in #dnd-newcomers would be better at assisting
you don't really need to like stanger things too as the campaign doesn't focus on the stranger things stuff, rather I THINK it's based off the DnD game they play in stranger things?
I'm tempted to watch stranger things only to see my husband
Torkey moment
Hey Ive got an idea for part of my game but idk if it’s anything? Is here the spot to put that for asking if it is
Is this DMing related? In which case you might put it in #dm-discussion, but here might be okay
Oh it definitely belongs there thank you
No problem. Fire away in there
insert witty dnd comment here that gets tons of positive react emojis for its clever awesomeness.
Genius
Couldn’t have said it better myself
hello guys
