It's as if Scopely looked at Ferengi values and interpreted them as real guiding principles on how to conduct business in the 21st century, missing the actual purpose of ST writers including Ferengi values in Star Trek, which was to act as a satirical critique of the failings of late 20th century humans driven by avarice, individualism, and self-interest. To be clear, Scopely, for those of us who genuinely long for a Star Trek future where we make life good and fair for the many (and preferably all) rather than only the few, avarice, greed and self-interest are bad things).

Who knows what the secondary effects of such selfish behaviour might be? There's a reason legislation is being rolled out in countries all over the world to protect the vulnerable from in-game loot boxes, e.g. minors who don't know what they're spending or the ramifications for their parents, or the gambler, struggling with addiction, resolved to be better but emotionally compromised by his past. An individual who may lack the capacity to always make the responsible choice to buy food and pay rent that week, who, initially starts playing an exciting, visually appealing free-to-play game to escape. He quickly becomes conditioned to hit the buttons as they appear to release that sweet dopamine, like some lab rat, because that's what the designers purposefully built it to do.

He finds himself nudged ever upward by covert code along carefully constructed crescendos toward the sweet promise of dopamine release, and one day, in a moment of blind, reward pathway-satisfying happy madness, succumbs. Why did he click the shiny button and spend all the food/rent money on a shiny thing on a screen that seemed to represent, what? Hope, perhaps? Escape from an often unbearably traumatic reality and threadbare life? Maybe it was just something colourful, and it seemed beautiful, and benign, and for a moment, made him happy. But after a few seconds, the dopamine fades and reality's cold tendrils snake back in. Except now, unable to eat or pay his rent, this is going to be a far colder week than the one he'd been facing mere minutes earlier. And that one was going to be cold.

This is a hypothetical person, but we know countless people just like him exist. I propose it as a moral thought experiment for your consideration, in the hope of introducing some slight spark or moral conscience into what seems, to most of us players out here, a hyper-capitalist, consumer exploitative, profiteering business model lacking any discernible guiding principles other than the pursuit of profit. Secondly, I know that some of the cynical and manipulative coding and UX design processes I mentioned in the above paragraph do go on at some game developers but I have no evidence nor reason to believe Scopely engages in such things, and I'm not suggesting that it does. I am just using a hypothetical human being as an admittedly worst-case scenario example of the potential fallout and human cost when the primacy of profit above all else is the driving force behind how a company does business.

It has felt very exploitative lately, very greedy, monetisation creeping into ever more areas of the game. Fairly transparent efforts to convert more free players into spending ones. All of that is fine of course, up to a point - it's a business, after all. But guys - you are way out of balance right now. And what seems to be completely lost on you is the staggering irony of a company so ostensibly driven by greed, producing a Star Trek game.

The Star Trek future is a Utopian one whose foundations are equality, compassion and cooperation, where money is no longer even needed, because "the acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives." (JLP, First Contact). But it sounds like a significant percentage of the player base perceives that Scopely's STFC business not only involves, but prizes, depends upon and maybe encourages things like self-interest, short-termism, profiteering, and greed. These are not only the failings of unevolved, small human beings without vision; they are the very behaviours thwarting our species' collective aspiration and drive toward creating that bright future. And whether you have failed to perceive this glaring irony, or you simply don't care, it is beyond absurd.

A single turn in on max g3 rare mada chest nets usually 70-200 epic calls. As long as you save up 1k calls you’re golden for the mada events

The dirty little secret about events is that they're just like the refinery, or scrapping: put in 10,000 and get 10 back of something slightly better. The trick is to not be a completionist. Only do the events that have a reward you need and can afford to chase.

Tickets are easy. Look at the reward for the ticketed event. Is it needed? Look at the effort needed to get there. Is it worth it? Then join. Don't have enough tickets? Oh well, move on.

Yeah. And I'm disciplined and intelligent enough to figure out where the easy events are, where the annoying or poor value ones are, and try to avoid the frustration that eggs me on to spend money. But... I ask myself: 'what other forms of entertainment do I consume where I have to avoid purpose-built frustration targeted at me just so I can enjoy a part of it?' I... I got nothing. Advertisements in media I suppose, but then I watch things on Netflix and not on TV to avoid exactly that. And I just think of times where I played Sim City, or Civilization, or a Call of Duty campaign, or a WoW expansion, and I never had to deal with constant frustration that is pushing me to spend more and more and more money. The frustrations I face there are bugs and poor mechanics, where the developers release updates to eliminate them. Here the developers are doing it on purpose! Oof. Its definitely time to step away.

Remarkable number of fails this battlepass, even for Dopley. 2 fails on the Treasury Launch (second one screws players on an event); then players who complete an alliance assist event get screwed out of resources (mostly lat) when the score for contributing is doubled and requests for rebates are ignored; then players are charged tickets for an event that magically is switched to free and are told to pound sand when they ask for their event tickets back. And finally, to keep the magic that only Dopley can create going, they want $100 for the key to the treasury vault.

I don't get what extra work anyone did to unlock the treasury lockbox? It's automatically opened when you do your dailies for 7 days. No extra work is needed (unless you don't do your dailies). It's not a new game mechanic. You can speed it up by killing hostiles if you're impatient, but honestly and normally active player probably opened it after 3 days just doing their normal stuff.

Also, you already get a rather nice chest for completing 7 days of daily goal milestones. For once I'm kinda agreeing with scopely on this: don't be greedy.

I'm not really sure about this rounding thing working. It's gotta go back...so late Sunday I sent a miner to token space to mine a node that had about 750k. When I reset to fill my "1" mil cargo it wasn't even half full.

This is what was left on a 1mil node when I was full. 32ish hours later.

1.6 mil plus is what I came home with.

Big difference from 1 mil.

Oh forget that display on the ship control screen. The ad is nonsense. You can't even look at the datasheet to see how much cargo capacity you actually have. You can click on the four squares to the left of the display, but the display there is not always correct either. In principle, it is no longer possible to see how much cargo capacity you actually have.

They should have left it the way it was. Even if the rounding would work correctly. Is that still a disadvantage that it is no longer displayed exactly.

I realized that it was no good when I had 800k cargo and the ship control screen said I was half full, but still had 1mil for max. Just want expecting to be there a day and a half to fill up the tank as opposed to 18 hours if it was only 1 mill like it shows.
