Good programmers could get quite a bit fixed in a few days, but you have to have good ones. It doesn't even need to be shut down, just don't start anything new.

I once had mutliple supposed programmers telling me they rewrite all code that's more than 2 weeks old or not written by them, because they can't follow code to see what it does. They posted this publicly, and multiple others agreed. Somehow the IT industry as a whole has gotten people to believe that bugs are normal, and can't be fixed.

If code gets released with bugs in it, the people who wrote it, and the people who tested it, didn't do what they were supposed to.

As a programmer myself, I can tell you that fixing all the bugs in this game will definitely be a long project, not a short one. The game was built to be something it isn't today, and update after update were piled onto that old code base until we got where we are. They sound like they figured this out in recent interviews, but it's not a quick or cheap fix.

I have a suspicion that there isn't that much new code. I suspect what they do is use the same code. Like the g3 faction miners. Good chance that's one ship's worth of code, not 3. Or why events have variables with "officer" in them. Most of the updates are probably assets. This is why hostiles feel so familiar, a lot of them are likely the same hostile. I could go on. Might be why negative values creep in - because the same variables are used for a bunch of different things. Or arena and incursion. I could go on.

Yes and no. I've never seen STFC's code, but I'm confident there's some reused functions for much of the stuff that comes out. But much of our bugs, especially the lag ones, are most likely a result of doing too many tasks on the server at once. We have too much stuff running in too many places, with too many API calls being made, etc., because the game wasn't build to handle this much or even some of the types of stuff it's running. That's why they've said they're working on changing how the game updates things and whatnot.

Thanks. I just tried Curadh with my 14 billion cube. The Runners were okay, but the 200% hazard damage blew me up. I was only able to hit 3 Runners for about 2000 containment curency. My base hazard resistance is only 80% so maybe I'm missing some new, not prime, hazard research somewhere?

If that's not it, forget it. No way I'm sending my cube there 21 times to get 42k for one chest pull.

I have given them professional bug reports on things that list how to reproduce them them step-by-step, errors from the PC game log file, and I put the bug reports on a silver platter to them, and they still don't get fixed.

That tells me right there Management isn't letting the programmers fix them .

That said, most of the bug reports they get from players are useless . When you post in the bug channel and just say "this isn't working" that's very little to help a programmer fix what's wrong
