Yeah it's cuz gwen is cascading off of the dmg boost from Ash. Remove Ash and the dmg will drop and then gwen doesn't have as much to cascade off of.

What we are hearing is unfortunately a lot of this is a “you” based issue.

Even without spending you can easily have strong ships if you make sure to put mats into ships and researches. Now, if you refuse to do that and maybe just slapdash through ops or ignore pvp oriented things that would benefit you, that again lands on you, not others who “spend 10k”. Little hint, there are a lot of free avenues to really solid options to help with pvp, you just have to play with intelligence and a plan.

No one likes the “woe is me” banter, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and make yourself into something an alliance would rather have on their side than not, or just accept maybe the game is a net negative on you and your attitudes, drop it like the bad habit it seems to be for you, and bring some sort of balance and positivity back into your life.

You just click ready and it finds 5 others, balances best it can, go. ELO handles the resulting consequences

None of the matchmaking and rank issues would matter if rank wasn’t illogically tied to Terran favors. Remove that link, and the player base would increase exponentially. We wouldn’t care if we get mismatched a few times in a row, as the rank would even it out. BUT since that rank is tied to Terran research unlocks, rank is this ugly thing that sours the whole loop for many players. The fix is easy to test, so much easier to implement than every other thing they have tried to do with arenas.

The issue with that vs what every other game that has a ranked mode dont have is this game has insane power creep and is based on years worth of research, crews, ships, favors, primes and other p2w features, and everything else where as something like COD or R6 is just a pick up and go, other than unlocking weapons or ops which takes a few hours everyone has the same stuff and is on the same playing field and its just about your skill for 99% of matches.

STFC has the YEARS of research and all the stuff I said above and the fact that 60% or so of the game is below ops 41. so you do those changes and 40s-50s will have a lot of load times but would make it nearly impossible for 60s or even some 50s to find a match in their ELO range without making the ops levels WAYYY uneven

Heck look at COD and R6 and most other games with ranked, even they cant do the ranked system well when they have the easier side of it, how are these devs gonna do that when they cant even make sure tasks for the tournaments are not invisible for the 4th time in a row

I had no problem at all with the matchmaking before they reduced the squad range banding. Because of that change there are now fewer squads participating, meaning the matches are becoming less “balanced” as the average ops of the squads in a match is often further apart than before.

I believe so. If there were only 2 squads close in rank and the next squad is a much poorer match, the same squads will play each other repeatedly. Add more squads into the set and the distribution improves; some matches are still uneven but the number of even matches improves. Add more squads into the set and ... etc.

It really annoys me when people suggest just binning the feature, because fundamentally, it's not that bad by any means. It needs some tweaks in a few places, but the core of it is no worse than the rest of the game (and in fact most of the lag-related issues are probably part of the core codebase that gives us lag at some many other points in the game anyway, eg event reset time).

As I see it, implementing the following would make the entire feature much more appealing for all concerned:

1. Revert back to +/-7 ops banding for squads. Changing it to +/-4 has had a detrimental impact on player engagement, and by extension, the quality of the matchmaking
2. Remove the Impulse Speed cap. This was supposedly done to improve lag-type issues, but from the comments seen here and my own experience, it hasn't changed anything
3. Reduce the rank penalty for losing matches. This would encourage players to keep playing because the risk is lower. Alternatively (or perhaps as an additional measure) introduce rank locks similar to the FKR rep locks, so players can feel safe that if they have a truly terrible run they don't lose everything they've earned. Fundamentally, players shouldn't feel penalised for engaging with the feature, which is exactly what happens when you rank down, as your daily pulls reduce in value (while costing the exact same) and certain valuable content in the faction store is gated behind rank.

The potential issue I see with the rank penalty, of not reducing or locking rank, lies in whether they calculate the rank part of matching by player rank score or by rank "bucket". If it's simply by bucket then everyone eventually reaches platinum I and matching problems such as in the very beginning resurface, but if it's by score then fine. I would hope they would calculate average rank scores as part of the matching and not average bucket.
But this is $copely and deep- or forward-thinking seem more the exception.

A workaround for the 0.00 warp bug is to swap the ship you want to use to a different dock, warp one system away from your station, then recall, then switch back to your main dock, it should let you warp normally.

Why don’t you do the mirror systems for tri rep grinding? The lv40 MU system offers better base rep per hostile than any survey in g3/4 space. Plus a bunch of other benefits to going to mirror space for rep grinding.
