For me the issue was that I wouldn't really get squads(or missions) to take the duty base after "bandits reached superiority", those missions for random points would only happen again after taking the neutral base, which I couldn't get to stick

My second try I had freedom occupy the duty base after which I joined the bandits, still running into the issue of the neutral base getting abandoned after conquering it

In soc this is not the case but I’ve broke like 10 of those little boxes that usually have stuff in them and only about 3 of them had nothing. Really did like those side quests though. Something as simple as that one quest reward where he lists out items and lets you choose feels like a slap on the wrist from gsc for being too greedy
