Most cards can be hard modded, either with a trim pot on the pwm controller's feedback pin or over the i2c/uart bus. But the Epower is good to at least 600 amps while many stock VRMs are not.

I realized if you wanted a $30-40 upgrade that is even more of a difference, get a 2600(K). I went 3550 to "3770" (4core4thread to 4core 8 threads) & I'll say at least in certain games, a moderate upgrade regarding cpu usage. Probably not an issue under a decent mobo heatsink or something. I really like techpowerups reviews showing temp/throttling w/ a fan or not, and they both show how most drives don't throttle until past at least maybe 150+ GB of pure writes. That low number is often for Gen 3 stuff tbh, gen 4 is maybe 250+ GB before throttling. I'm still itching to snag the $160 2TB 970 evo + from amazon, but the S70 will be fun.
