Meh I mean it's decent but you sacrifice a ton of CPU performance if you ever get a dgpu some day

#

It's basically a 3600 with igpu

#

I'd rather just live with a 11500 and get a dgpu someday and be way better off

cinder tinsel
#

That's true

light bay
#

If amd didn't gimp the cache on their g models I would def go for it tho

marsh sphinx
#

Not worth almost $60 usd

#

lmao

dark notch
dark notch
#

its not a ton

#

it still has double the cache of the 4650g

#

and it clocks memory and fabric wayyy highe

#

yes its worse

#

but its like

#

5%

#

maybe 10%

#

3600 is like 20-25% worse

forest prairie
#

if you want to buy a basic display adapter at least go cheap

#

quadro 600 or something

stoic crest
#

4650g is poggers

#

it has amazing cpu perf and igpu

The GT 710

jolly inlet
stoic crest

just get cpu with igpu

#

if you wanna get a 710 lol

jolly inlet
#

Yeah even the igp on the intel 10 series is often better

stoic crest
#

any modern igpus in 2021 will beat 710

oak sentinel

Gt710 is very nice for extra monitors tho

grave delta
#

@abstract elm trim your link, add price and short title

abstract elm
#

alright

grand orbit
#

Also bad deal anyway put please trim links lol

grave delta
#

I think we should all also specify what the ltt psu tier list rating is or link an aris review to psu posts

#

If there's a rebate, add "AR"

grand orbit
#

That's a good idea

abstract elm
#

it's $47

#

and it's a super good psu

#

tier a

prisma mortar
abstract elm
#

gold rated and fully modular

grave delta
prisma mortar
#

idk if newegg shows an embed, ive never seen any of the links i post of it embedding

jolly inlet
#

Sometimes it does

grave delta
#

I often remove embeds manually there - I'll just disable them soon

grand orbit
abstract elm
#

yea

#

it's $47

grand orbit
#

That's nice then

abstract elm
#

fr

grand orbit
#

Mb say the price in the post

prisma mortar
#

it says it's only $10 off for me too so idk

grave delta
#

"half off" is meaningless

jolly inlet
#

But the price on that psu before the rebate is still pretty bad, and you probably don't need A tier if you're using 500W

grand orbit
prisma mortar
#

ohhhh lmao

abstract elm
prisma mortar
#

i thought that was like the shipping price so i ignored it

grand orbit
grave delta
jolly inlet
#

Yeah I see the code I just don't like rebates lol

grand orbit
#

Fair lol

abstract elm
#

the rebate is only like $10

#

the code is most of the discount

grand orbit
#

57$ is still aight

abstract elm
#

yeah for what it is that's a great price

jolly inlet
#

You can get a B tier 650W at that price usually though

#

Maybe A

abstract elm
#

wrong link

#

i think

#

there ya go

grave delta
#

I know luke kinda "retired" so maybe someone will repost to be able to maintain the list

jolly inlet
#

Good idea having that handy for this channel too

grave delta
#

@dusky timber How relevant is that tier list link these days? Any suggestions welcome.

#

It's been fun trying to terraform #tech-deals into an actually useful channel

prisma mortar
#

ngl i kinda want to kinda be like gamersnexus and get a bunch of PSU testing equipment and just test psus, but it's all so expensive and ive also havent had any training on how you test psus so yeah

#

only a distant dream

#

unless i join gamersnexus lmao

grave delta
#

Those programmable electronic load boxes are very expensive, but you could get a decent scope, dmm, bench psu for a few hundred used to get started in the hobby.

prisma mortar
#

maybe some other year, but definitely not now since i dont have the funds 😔

thick locust

Most of that PSU testing equipment they use is $10,000+

stoic crest

damn

that plat psu deal is juicy

cinder tinsel

only 560 w though

minor lava

560 enough for a lower end build i think

light bay
#

Maybe if you leave it stock and oc the hell out of the 5600g lol

dark notch
#

guess which one has more OC headroom?

light bay
#

This is gamers Nexus

#

5600g

dark notch
#

you can clock +200mhz easily with 5600G

#

hell

light bay
#

Yeah

dark notch
#

people wanted +500mhz

#

and you can do that

#

5600G has wayy more headroom

light bay
#

And even with a higher clock on the 5600g you still won't get to 30 percent

dark notch
#

i never said 30%

#

?

light bay
#

Nvrmind 20-25

#

Doubt you'll make it to 25 tho

dark notch
#

thats not a good cpu test anyways

light bay
#

If you oc both to the max

dark notch
#

SOTTR for example

#

or firestrike physics

light bay
#

But that person was going for gaming

#

I don't think they could care less about workstation stuff

#

Otherwise they woulda prolly grabbed a 10850k or something

dark notch
#

?

#

i didnt say workstation

light bay
#

That's what physics and stuff is

#

Or is that a game

grand orbit
# light bay

Siege is more gpu bound tbh, csgo/valorant will show larger gaps

light bay

I'll go look for benches on those then

Altho I do say pbo is p nice for some thing

dusky timber

And the people@who think they know stuff are basically collecting pkemon cards

Hard to screw up a CPU with pbo

dusky timber

It’s the kids who collected the cards but never actually played with them enough to know how the cards work

hmm

dusty trail
#

thanks for letting me know

I'm just glad intel have finally loosened their grip on prices

3090 are going for around 3 grand or higher depending on brand (Atleast on facebook market) (Ebay is worse) Its pretty worth if you are going to make a profit with that. For example you could sell the 3090 for about $500 higher and leave yourself a free mobo. If its 3k cdn go for it, but if its usd, reconsider

$249 for a power supply isn't a good deal, even if it is 1200W platinum. They're just trying to gouge miners.

That's double the price of a good 850W+

grave delta

I think it's a good deal - if you need a 1200w plat leadex, it's very good deal in today's market, but I doubt anybody who sees that link here will actually buy that

Any ATX PSU is gonna be overpriced

dark notch

sure

#

but that means they're all not overpriced

slow sluice

No, they're all overpriced

dark notch
#

i mean the bom delta between a RM550X and a RM850X is a couple bucks

#

does that psu have a 5 volt rail

#

or a 3.3 volt rail

#

or any of the standby or negative tails

#

does it have power cables

slow sluice
#

You're getting gouged if you buy high wattage ATX PSUs

dark notch
#

high voltage

#

ah yes a barebones refurb psu compared to full retail psu

#

how much those cost new

slow sluice
#

Words hard

#

Probably around 150 new, idk

dark notch
#

and again where are the seconday rails or power connectors

#

those add cost

slow sluice
#

That's just one PSU that I pulled

#

Breakout boards are probably going to be 15-30 bucks

dark notch
#

still only 12v

#

no secondary rails

slow sluice
#

Is it?

dark notch
#

yes.

slow sluice
#

Some server PSUs have the necessary rails, some don't

#

For the ones that don't you just need to add them in

dark notch
#

which adds cost and complexity

slow sluice
#

It's not like the 3.3V and 5V rails draw a lot of power

#

Breakout boards

dark notch
#

find me a breakout board with 5v and 3.3v and 5vsb and -12v and -5v rails

slow sluice
#

Don't need negative rails

dark notch
#

#

but sti

#

find me one without the old rails

#

oh and how loud is that fan again thinkhyper

slow sluice
#

Very quiet

#

It barely needs to run

dark notch
#

for a server i'd assume its at max rom constantly

slow sluice
dark notch
#

also

#

the supermicro

#

is 1100W max on residential 120V

slow sluice
#

Actually lol nvm, it is supermicro

slow sluice
dark notch
#

so a 1100W psu that doesnt fit in any chassis and is refurbished for $90 with hideous cables

slow sluice
#

That's just the first PSU I clicked on on eBay

#

You're paying 100-200 or more extra just for a different size box

dark notch
#

yeah

#

one that fits in a pc

#

and brand new with 10y warranty

#

not a refurb

#

you're paying thousands of dollars for slightly special sand

slow sluice
#

You don't get it

dark notch
#

ofc refurb liquidated psus are cheap

#

the msrp on that unit is $480

slow sluice
#

Where'd you find that?

#

That one is new

#

ATX PSUs are just plain expensive, that's all there is to it

dark notch
#

"new"

#

T710 and R510 is like

#

8 years old

#

oh nvm its like 12 years old

#

overstocked liquidated server psus are cheap

#

i'll give you that

slow sluice
#

Yup

#

And quite frankly, the use case for a PSU of that wattage is probably gonna work just as well in a rack as a workstation

#

Only advantage of the workstation is it looks pretty

#

Or even in a dual PSU workstation where you could use two lower wattage PSUs. Would be more expensive than old server stock, but still cheaper than that 1.2kW unit

@dark notch why get the P34A80 drive when the sn750 is cheaper?

because sn750 se is dramless

and only a 4 channel controller

It's a four lane spec

dark notch

nand channel

#

not pcie

slow sluice

Oh lol

dark notch
#

so the SN750 SE has pcie 4.0, but cant even get 4.0 speeds because its limited by the speed of the nand and the controller

#

and it doesnt have dram

#

Max Sequential Read Up to 3600 MBps
Max Sequential Write Up to 2830 MBps

#

keep in mind

#

this is PCIe 4.0

#

these are 3.0 speeds

slow sluice

Don't buy it as a pcie 4 drive lol, that'd be dumb

It's a gen 3 drive, just with a next gen controller

its a glorified sn550

Meh

dark notch

it even looks like a sn550

i'd rather have the p34a80

slow sluice

You're acting like a sn550 is bad or something

sn550 is cheap

How much slower though?

pcie gen 4 x4 is 8GB/s

dark notch

i cant exactly quantify it

its not about bandwidth

slow sluice

So it's about latency?

dark notch
#

yeah

access time so to speak

or seek time

whatever you call it on ssd

slow sluice

So cache misses are expensive

That's normal

@tough bronze AYAYAbaka why is Sn750 higher tier than phison e12

same performance tier

slow sluice

Given his thoughts on why HMB is bad, you're probably not far off

dark notch

its not just read latency AMshrug

tough bronze

ok then what is it, because that's the SN750s largest weakness

oak sentinel
tough bronze
#

also HMB isn't a big deal at light QD

dark notch

it matches it in basically every catagory

grave delta
#

It's pretty hot/power hungry too

dark notch

HMB is fine

tough bronze
dark notch
#

but its just not as good as dram

#

reference phison e12 ssds

tough bronze
#

wow incredible observation

dark notch
#

yes?

#

that was my point

tough bronze
#

wat

#

SN750 has much better sustained perf then quite a few E12 SSDs

#

actually compare 2 drives and not just say "e12" like all ssds which use the same controller perform the exact same please

dark notch
#

sorta?

#

i mean its barely any better

tough bronze
#

when we refer to sustained im referring specifically to native write

#

how the two drives behave throughout drifferent fill capacities is entirely different aswell

grave delta
#

I'd think copy would be most relevant to normie users

tough bronze
#

E12 uses dynamic SLC, and will have a large buffer when empty

#

SN750 uses static and will be remarkably consistent throughout different fill states

dark notch
#

sequentials?

slow sluice
dark notch

like full drive writes?

tough bronze
slow sluice
#

F

tough bronze
# dark notch sequentials?

the SSD tier list methedology is in the guide and you can see that sequentials play a part in how they are tiered

dark notch
#

anyways

#

thats beside the point

tough bronze
#

you're making a dumb blanket statement

dark notch
#

is the Sn750 SE for $98 better than the P34A80 for $100

oak sentinel
dark notch
#

or was it $97

tough bronze
slow sluice
#

They're pretty comparable, I go with the cheaper one

dark notch
#

just buy $80 dramless pcie 3.0 then

tough bronze
#

would get the P34a80 if oyu only had PCIE 3.0

#

not sure how SN750-SE performance scales from 3.0-4.0

#

there's actually not much info on the SN750-SE at all so its position in tier-B is more like a "thats probably where it will go" once there's more reviews oni t

slow sluice
#

sn750se is a decent gen3 drive that just happens to use gen4

dark notch
#

its like a slightly glorified e13t

tough bronze
slow sluice

Yup

tough bronze

yup

slow sluice
#

Which is why it should be cheaper, like it is rn

tough bronze
dark notch
#

sure

#

well

#

E16 is yeah

#

e18 is 12nm, extra cortex core

#

a lot better in randoms than e12/e16

tough bronze
#

did not get the meme

slow sluice
#

Well, E18 is a slightly glorified E16 and E16 is a slightly glorified E12, so by the transitive property of glorification the E18 is a moderately glorified E12

#

Did I do the math right?

dark notch
#

E18 is quite a bit different than E16

tough bronze
slow sluice
#

So probably more like somewhat glorified?

tough bronze

Innogrit Rainier IG5236 is king

slow sluice

When are we gonna see more mainstream risc-v drives?

dark notch

#

barely saturates 3.0 tho

dark notch
slow sluice
dark notch
#

Minimum peak sequential write - 128KB block size: 3000MB/S

#

Minimum 50GB copy transfer rate (Diskbench): 600MB/s

#

not seeing how SN750 falls into tier a chima_shrug

#

also p5 plus is in tier S twice

slow sluice
#

Fork and make a PR lol

tough bronze
dark notch
tough bronze
#

oops

#

was scrolled up

#

@dark notch results are actually based on this, which indicate a variation in software/test setup over time

#

ah, that's megabits per second

#

or MBps

#

i take that's what it is?

#

no

#

then the result would be 8 fold

dark notch
#

their testing mebbe just cursed

tough bronze
#

i would imagine possibly a software change/update

#

but drives tiering changes based on where they stand in newer reviews

grave delta
#

None of the values matching between graphs is a good sign

minor lava
#

is or isnt

tough bronze
#

The general trend stays the same

#

the SN750 review was updated more than a year ago, and was originally published even further before

grave delta
#

meltdown mitigations etc maybe?

#

Pretty drastic - but idk what kind of synthetic load / system that is

tough bronze
#

so stuff like that may have changed aswell

#

either way based on the updated info SN750 is in the right tier

#

the tier list methedology is kind of a "just there for credibility thing" but we try to follow it

#

it's still getting changed since it's not perfect and probably won't be for a while

#

because having a set in stone methodology for something like SSDs where performance can vary greatly based on testing methodology, firmware revision, the current cycle of the moon, etc is a little difficult

#

i imagine it was probably a change in diskbench though that made the difference here

dark notch
#

well anyways, i just dont see what makes the sn750 (and 970 evo tbh) a tier above the normie drives

#

such as e12

tough bronze
#

970 evo is B tier

dark notch
#

evo plus

tough bronze
dark notch

drives based on the reference phison desigh

grave delta
#

Where would you place a p4510/p4610

tough bronze
#

Those U.2? it's a consumer ssd tier list except for the p5800x which is in there as a joke

dark notch
#

because if you look at stuff like the og p34a80, the inland premium, they are literally the same as the reference phison e12 design

grave delta
#

Yes

tough bronze
#

Probably S tier though considering enterprise drive

tough bronze
dark notch
#

that barely affects it

tough bronze
#

also they are legit not fast enough for A-tier but you can check

tough bronze
#

this is epic

dark notch
#

but lemme check

bottlenecked by the controller

tough bronze

LOL

dark notch
#

or interface

tough bronze
#

what

#

SIR

#

that makes no sense

dark notch
#

bics3 64L is the es that anandtech got

#

inland has bics4

#

oh waits thats e12s

#

p34a80 e12 is the same bics3

tough bronze
#

basically all e12 drives are e12s now

dark notch
#

literally same drive as reference ed

tough bronze
#

ok

#

cool?

dark notch
#

like all the other e12 bar the one or two with custom firmware

tough bronze
#

go prove that they belong in A tier and maybe some will be bumped

dark notch
#

mp510 for one

tough bronze
#

i think there was one E12 drive that was in A tier for a bit, the addlink s70 but there wasn't enough recent info on it to keep there

#

all E12 drives are probably E12S by now, so they need some more up to date performance metrics

#

and when i was going through a lot of the generic E12 drives they just didnt make the cut for A-tier

#

evo plus does, and it's going to be even deeper in after the elpis switch

#

very good native write though

dark notch
#

the firecuda has custom firmware tho

#

:p

#

toms hw hasnt reviewed any other e12 drives at 1tb

#

but lemme see if i can find

tough bronze
#

why do we care about custom firwmare or anything

#

junk

#

e12 drives stay in b tier

because firmware affects performance
