To put it into bullet points:
- needs to be plug and play after setup, and can be put away easily
- would be used to stream to zoom, but trying to get them to switch to YouTube
- needs to have an adjustable picture in picture
- needs to be relatively cheap
Bro I’m not reading all that
If you can afford it, yes.
If you're patient, they're always cheaper later on
Those reviews look bad tho
I did the F2
Having issues with my keyboard, I rely on my windows key a lot to switch from tab to tab. But for some reason it doesn't seem to work. I tried to reset my PC a couple times, and followed some things this source gave me : https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-key-not-working/0c796f79-0aa8-466e-ab44-802005d1791b
Still haven't gotten it to work. I'm using a HAVIT KB487L TKL keyboard, if that helps at all, does anyone have any other ideas on how to turn it back on? Or any alternatives to switching tabs quickly.
Got this phone and this is a 200MP photo so you have to click to see it
I am not rich I bought it on 24 month carrier instalments
Lol
While it isn't an official standard from the TIA, there is still a difference. You can think of 6e as falling between 6 and 6a.
Some manufacturers might take advantage of the fact that 6e isn't a standard and produce subpar quality cables, but that's rare.
So you're saying it supports both 1 and 10gbps but at different distances than the ones of 6 & 6a
The differences are mostly physical layer.
There's better performance at extreme distances due to the higher operating frequency and improved shielding
As such 6e is better suited for datacenter environments compared to 6
I have these hdmi ethernet extenders and I've only tested them with a 5e cable, so 1Gbps which is way less than what is required for fhd 60hz to actually run at 60 frames
Will 6e (10~20m) help with the low framerate? They mention 6e so I guess 10Gbps is supported on these devices...
Is this the correct way to measure the required bandwidth for a video connection?
vRes × hRes × refreshRate × bit/rgb
Bit/rgb as 8bit per color in each pixel, or 10 for hdr (so either 24 or 30bit per pixel)
It does claim in those "features" that it's 10.2Gbps
For an uncompressed video signal that should be correct, but you might also need to account for other features such as Freesync and DSC.
10.2 as the hdmi 1.4 standard ig
Same for a philps TV I have with no remote 😅
I don't like tv boxes that lack power button
Same, no idea why they stopped putting buttons. I can control my TV with my phone... if it's on already. But there's no button to turn it on, so if I lose the remote I can't use my TV at all.
Nor ones that runs on android with just a skin slapped on top
I prefer android tv more than normal android
Because less app choice for tv
Or more specifically made for tv
It's rather amusing installing 3dmark on my TV and seeing it get less than 1 frame per second
How much would those features add up to in gbps, less than 1 probably...?
Oh I just discovered there's furmark2
2
What
Since when
Oh so it's fairly new
Is it any better in stress/death testing?
I saw some things like vram tests which are cool
I cannot test the HD baseT extenders because I just have 30 ethernet cables all of them cat 5e
Then I have fiber
But this thing obviously doesn't
It varies wildly, you can calculate with DSC since it's just a compression algorithm but freesync/gsync you should just account for an extra 1gbps at least
Ok, so 2160p @60hz should be 12gbps raw with sdr
Ok, can't run 4k60hz anyways with these extenders
Cause it's 1.4
Not unless all devices support DSC compression
With HDMI 1.4 the answer to "does it support DSC" is probably no
I have no idea and the current TV is 1080p60, but if I were to get a 4k one I'd like to run it at least @60hz
You could run 4k60 at 4:2:0 but it'll look like garbage
No DSC operates differently
It actually compresses the stream of data so it appears to run at 4:4:4
Yeah, i was just asking if the singular frame compressions, the ones with 4:X:X are just those 4, but I guess those are all
Oh, yeah those are the 4 chroma sampling methods but PCs only support the first 3
I guess one of these is being used when I run the extenders with 5e, since the pic looks slightly blurred in some parts
I get almost the same quality as running windows remote desktop over my local cat5e network
That's very likely happening yes, since
Probably remote desktop does the extender job but into the pc that is being remoted to
Does all the compression cause significant latency?
No but there are compression artifacts
Which is why everyone is so mad that all the new OLED monitors only have DP 1.4
I'd probably be mad too if I had to spend 600 and more bucks on a display with limited capabilities
Yeah, hey, this $800 OLED monitor has 4k 240Hz, but you can only use it at that if you sacrifice some image quality which is super noticeable to many people on an OLED panel
All they had to do was put DP 2.0 or 2.1 ports and the problem goes away (for AMD 7000 users
)
Yep, you definitely notice the worse pic quality if you care so much about the better color range and spend that much money
I say for AMD users because Nvidia didn't see fit to include more than DP 1.4 ports even on their "$1600" GPU
So we're at a weird point where you need the XTX to support 4k240 without compression but only the 4090 has any hope of hitting that at reasonable quality settings
I feel like I'll stay with AMD for a while til Nvidia makes some changes
Unless I go crazy with the drivers
6950xt: price ranges from 550 to 600
4090: well over 1600, so 3 times as much
But where's my 3x performance?
It's there, you just have to cherry pick specific games, turn on ray tracing, and use DLSS compared to native on AMD
Aliexpress really saves me when buying tech stuff
Cat7 20m is just €10 compared to €20 on Amazon
Is there a reason why we don't have more flat ethernet cables if they work just as well as round ones? Or do they not
In short runs they're fine but in longer runs you can get crosstalk and other issues
Will the cat7 stiffness be about the same as 6a?
Stiffer
Mmmh
I already find 6a quite difficult to route in certain places so I guess I'll just get another 6 or 6a
it's all you really need for home use
Right, you probably don't have a 100 gig nic on anything you own
Yeah, considering that even in the future I won't get 1gbps, it's only for the hdmi over ethernet thing
Update: I can click my windows key.. But now I can't type in the windows search bar, or the settings app but not even minecraft? Nor my Xbox app, but I can type in my web browser, discord, command prompt, etc.
Again; Any ideas?
I had a keyboard die on me recently. It froze up and didn't detect any key presses, and when I plugged in another keyboard every time I pressed a key it would think I was taking a screenshot.
So what I'm saying is try unplugging the old keyboard and try a different one, it could be on its way out.
But it works fine on other programs like Roblox or Opera GX?
if you do something like this, do all of the keys show up?
https://keyboard-tester.com/
it might be possible its some kind of windows language problem, for example, sometimes I accidentally switch to chinese and programs that don't support those characters just show nothing when I press keys
Yep, except F3 which I still know works because it brings me to a search.
I only have Russian and English on here, if it was on Russian then I would be using my Russian keyboard, but interesting.
It would also show on the bottom right
Looks like minecraft chat only supports these characters for example, if the windows input method setting was set to russian for some reason, minecraft would show nothing if you tried to type, so this might be something to look deeper into
I don't think my PC is on russian
Well how would I change it then so it inputs Latin?
You can try overriding it here
I can't access my settings app
Well, I can't type on it at least
What would be my trajectory?
Wait nvm
And again, I can't type in settings, or my windows search bar.
actually can you just check on the task bar the keyboard layout selected here
should be able to access it with just mouse
I'm on Windows 10
hm
I can only access it after I've done the shortcut (Win + Space key)
I can't remember where it was on w10
default keybind to switch keyboard method was alt+shift iirc, try pressing that rq
That doesn't work anymore for some reason either?
I think Windows might just be having some issues, tbh
it might've changed to win+space at some point
Neither work
I thought it was the same for 10. my keybinds for keyboard switching are win+space and shift+caps for method
I remember alt-shift, but I've been on w11 for a while now
I don't know if maybe I messed something up while trying to fix the fact that I couldn't click my Windows key yesterday?
Everything was fine yesterday except for my Windows key problem, and now that the Windows key is fixed, typing is limited for me.
lemme try downloading the windows russian and using it in minecraft and check if the symptoms are the same
It.. Should be the same, Minecraft supports Russian.
Minecraft definitely didn't support chinese inputs when I checked a moment ago
But again, I'm not trying to specifically fix Minecraft, I'm trying to fix Windows
even though the display language can be set to chinese
I don't normally use Russian although
Just checked, minecraft does support russian input, not the problem
its probably just a problem unique to pinyin inputs
Again, I am trying to fix Windows
Not Minecraft in specific
It would be nice if I could play Minecraft, but Minecraft isn't the problem
Matching symptoms can help with figuring out what the problem is
But Windows supports all keyboard that it offers.. And I can't type in my search bar, or settings.
So.. Any other ideas?
That is the shortcut I use on both 10 and 11
👍
With your search bar or settings not working however, it is probably an issue with your windows install?
You could always try a sfc /scannow
It says I'm not the owner of this device..?
btw, can you use the on-screen keyboard? win11 keybind is windows+ctrl+o
Need to run it as administrator
need to run as administrator mode
No
How do I open up command prompt as admin again?
You should be able to enable it by clicking accessibility->keyboard->on screen keyboard in settings
It opened, it just wont let me type.
click the keyboard
Win r "CMD" (right) ctr shift enter
right click command prompt and run as administrator
can also do
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth```
Haven't seen it do any changes.
I'm gonna reset my PC and see what happens
Still nothing, this is getting on my nerves.
Reinstall* reset does little to nothing
If you have another computer, you could test to see if it's working properly on that
But considering that sfc had found corrupted files, your windows install might be a bit corrupted
It isn't a new computer, if thats what you are thinking.
Does that mean I have to get a new version of Windows?
You can stay on windows 10 if you wish
Though it may be more convenient to go to windows 11
My PC can't run Windows 11 it says
Oh dear
I think 9th gen should support windows 11
I don't plan on moving on to Windows 11 anytime soon, maybe when I finish my next PC then sure.
Yeah your cpu supports windows 11
I say then because I know that I want to make the most out of this current PC before I hand it down to my brother.
There currently isn't many downsides of upgrading to 11; the downsides are to not upgrade, because that would mean you have to update it when 10 loses support in 1 year
Or maybe 2 years? I forget if it ends in the start or end of 2025
"I’m not upgrading to Windows 11 because I was told it's bad" just shut up 💀
?
Dang, ok
When it completely loses support I'll have to buy my brother that OS as well
No need to buy
Same key as Windows 10
Oh? Interesting
microsoft wants to keep you on windows more than they want you to pay for windows
Update: Everything works now, I rebooted my pc completely
I'm surprised
Not really surprising, they make more money from telemetry than you buying their license
Fair enough
System integrators practically get their licenses for free
I got a MacBook Air 2020 now when I was trying to get it charged with normal usb type c it was looping I just got the charger in and now it boots to just the Apple logo and I mean the keyboard works still because the caps lock turns on when pressed is there anyway to force it to boot through?
Ok, now I have to chose between a CAT6 or 6a. Any differences if I'm running 20m of cable? That should allow for 10gig on both categories, right?
I'm thinking about buying two 10m cat6 or 6a and connecting two ends together with a connector, since I may need to add a switch in the middle of the run for other projects. Will the 10gig get compromised with the connector in between?
You mean its not booting? Can you get into recovery mode?
I don’t think it can go into recovery mode what buttons do I need to press
It’s not getting passed the appple logo it just boots to that
They changed it recently so Im not 100% sure. Used to be cmd+r when booting now I think you just hold the power button until you see a options button from what I am seeing online
So hold it even if it turns off?
I’m not even getting to that the picture I posted is all that pops up
the apple logo is what comes up when it tries to boot the main drive. this menu is accessible before that
unless they changed something recently i believe you can access recovery without a drive installed
I’m telling you it’s only booting to that I can’t get nothing else to work should I try with a keyboard plugged in?
you don't boot the computer, you completely turn it off then turn it on by holding the power button and continue to hold the power button until you see such screen
Ok
there is also this if even that doesn't work
im gonna give it time on charger im also plugging in a normal usb type c charger
dual bios except instead of bios it's dual os frfr
I don't know if my phone has this problem where I can't get the update if I'm outside the intended use country. Not sure what they mean by that but I feel like that has something to do with the default phone carrier...?
s21, April and I still don't have a14 + one ui6.
Other people with s21+ got it last month if not earlier
I'm in Italy and I bought this phone refurbished from an Italian store. I have no idea why I haven't got any updates yet
Updates are either slow or fast no matter what phone you have as far as I have owned android phones
I had to manually check for updates to get latest update on my S21 FE after it has come out for a week
Since my phone didn't notify me
I'm on one ui 6 with android 14 here
I always check manually, guess I'll try with smart switch on my pc
Worth a try
My s21 fe is a used phone kek
Still haven't fixed back cover glue problem
I got it 5 weeks ago I believe
f
You can always download and flash it yourself if the update exists for your exact model/original carrier. I think the Samsung flash tool still works but it's been a few years since I've used it. It doesn't trip Knox if you use official images.
This phone shouldn't have a "default/original" carrier. How can I check that?
How safe is it?
Any risk in losing data?
Usually it's tied to the model number. For example, a Tmo phone might have a model number of SM253-GSV and a Verizon phone would be SM253-SG (not real models just example)
It's an official Samsung tool.
You should be able to tell it to leave the user data partition alone so it only affects the system.
Mine is just sm g991u, so I guess no carrier
Should I wait a bit more for ufficial update release to play it safe?
Idk if updating it with the tool is a 1:1 replica of a normal android update
Android updates are usually distributed through your carrier sometime between 0 months, 6 months, and never
I had an old LG phone that never got the official last android OS edition it supported because Verizon decided not to distribute it
And if course I couldn't install it myself because Verizon bootloader locks are not easy to bypass
Even on phones that are supposed to be unlocked and every other carrier is unlocked
According to the site I get Samsung updates from that model is only distributed in the US to T Mobile, Sprint, Comcast, and Verizon
So you're saying it should be a US phone designed to get its updates in the US when using those carriers?
Yes
So I will never see the update come out on its own
Is it still possible to update it to android 14 with the tool or will there be anything else stopping me?
Maybe not never, it depends on your carrier and if they have an agreement with the original carrier
I can find the original carrier with that version number, hang on
Looks like an exact match for all the possible carriers so it's probably the same version for all, just with different carrier bloat apps
So what does that mean?
Any image intended for that device should in theory work, it'll just include different carrier apps
If it had something to do with my current carrier, will changing my Sim card for a while allow me to get the update?
I currently don't have carrier apps
But I'd like it to stay that way, no horrible boot screens with the carrier logo or other bloatware
I can grab the one that's for devices sold without a carrier so there should have no carrier apps
Okk
My mother has a s21+ and got the update in late February. Idk if things are different between these two models but she has a different more popular carrier here in Italy.
Maybe if I try using that other Sim I can get it to work?
Oh wait
If I remove the Sim will I get any updates at all?
All of that depends on the carriers in question
I don't know their internal workings and policies
Some carriers will tie a sim to an imei and if there's a mismatch it rejects service
Others don't care
Is there a list of samsung s21 codenames with their corresponding country or default carrier?
sammobile.com has search functions for that
Ok, thanks for all the info
I don't understand why an update has to be so difficult to get if you don't cover every single smallest system requirement
Make sure to backup everything just in case, and have the adb drivers installed
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s21/firmware/SM-G991U/DSA/download/G991USQSAFXC2/1818795/
https://dl2018.sammobile.com/Odin.zip
Ok,
I noticed there's an option for backup in smart switch. Will that create a copy that can be deployed back to get everything to how it was previously?
Or is it like just a personal data backup and requires configuring the phone again *if something goes wrong
I feel like all of these update problems and us phone are releated to other problems like Samsung pass & personal area not being available since I configured the phone
What ethernet cable requirements are there to run poe over about 5m of cable?
5 meters is barely anything, cat5e is fine
If it's in an enclosed place, just make sure the wire can handle warm
Most normal patch cables are rated for like 60c
Only like really bottom of barrel you would find any that is rated for lower
Looking for a good laptop for about 1500 dollars. For descent specs and cooling and power. If anyone's got good brands please tell me
I read online that a usb c to rj45 adapter can be used to set up a wired connection using your phones mobile data (samsung device) and I guess a router on the other side of the cable. Does it really work that way too?
Theoretically yes
Make sure your phone supports USB 3.0, as well as the adapter you use
Might be better to just directly tether to a pc
If you want multiple clients, glinet's portable router/ap combos can take a phone tethering as a source
And they're very cheap and built well
Very cheap as in good value
This is a fork of openwrt
That's interesting, I'll think about that too if I ever need it.
I guess any regular c to rj45 allows setting up your phone as the main router (output) as well as use etherent to get internet connection on the phone (as an input)
Any usb 3.0 adapter will do the job right? I'm not going to use it much rn, so probably a €5 adapter from aliexpress is good enough
Yep
What is your use exactly
I usually do some testing when I need to wire ethernet ports and checking cable speed limitations on my home network when I rearrange the devices connected to ethernet
And it'd be really helpful to use just my phone to test the wired connection
Then I felt like I would find a good use of the adapter to set up temporary routers using phones mobile data
Hmm yeah then that would probably be fine? Make sure you have a crossover cable if your adapter isn't gigabit though
also btw we have a #networks-security-and-home-servers channel that you coul have asked in as well now lmfao
Ok, I never deal with gigabit speeds here so...
Wha
I never saw that
Why is it hidden form my list of channels
Every gigabit or higher port is auto duplexing, crossover cables are obsolete
the reason why i say you need a gigabit adapter is because iirc the standard for automatic midix or smth
yeah
Many 100mb ports are also auto
hmm
bye
yeah i was telling them go look for gigabit since it isnt 100% that there would be that function on the under gigabit adapters
'tis new
Digital or analog mixer for 12 channel input and fairly close to the instruments and singers (4 meters away approximately)?
The pros are basically just digital has remote control with an app, and analog is half the price
you mean like for studio recording?
Live music
yeah analog is more cost effective. Personally I'd probably just do analog since it's easy to learn and usually has enough control and effects to be usable. digital can be more complicated to learn and train people on because of the software aspect
digital is pretty standard in many places now though
hmm alright
Now that I think about it I feel like samsung pass foesnt work on my s21 because it's a US model outside of the states and without a US carrier
Could it be?
Is there a way to flash the phone to a non usa software version? Or is it linked to the firmware/rom and stuff?
You usually can't cross flash carriers because they'll use slightly different models. It might not power on after you flash.
If it's the exact same model as the one you intend to flash to, then it should be ok.
Not a recommendation question, just a curiosity question
If cost was no object, would you rather have a central vacuum, or would you rather have a Dyson cordless vacuum
Central? Is that the one where you brush it into a whole in the floor?
If so cordless hoover anyday that sounds like a fat pain
tbh never heard of a Central
there's more (and better) dupes that do more than a Dyson for cheaper. Dyson is the Apple of vacuums and idc how steep the hill I die on is while making this statement
The stick hooves are chefs kiss, plus no wholes in your skirting or whatever idk if NA houses have skirtings i assume they do
We do. It's called "base molding" in America
Wtf is central
lol
Is this like the hidden capital of the underworld or sum 💩
just get a Dyson dupe offbrand tbh
I actually hate the word "dupe" but that's the word we're using now
We had a V8 until we got a V12(? maybe it's a V11) Now we have the V8 at our office lol
You wouldn't believe it but $40 aldi clone #7 from last year do be the dyson killer
(There's some truth to this but also bleh)
V8's are good
Just remember to buy a replacement battery after a few years
I knew that there were off-brands that are killing Dyson for a third of the price but damb I didn't know that there were $40 killers 💀
There always is in the supermarket space
Ask me what one is I don't have a name cos I have a Dyson
We regularly get sales from Aldi here where they flog off promotional items for dumb cheap to get you to shop in their store
Bro we have "smart vacuums" now that connect to your Wi-Fi (I don't know what this is for tbh but I know it's a thing on some vacuums)
Alexa, play rick roll from my vacuum
bruh
(who needs these features)
Just give me a cordless vacuum that lets me stand it up for when I'm not using it
bruh
Just give me cordless
(these exist but I forgot what brand it's from and it's like $120)
DOG
My dyson got dat dawg in 'im
In wall vacuum. Just have a bunch of air duct outlets scattered through the building walls like wall outlets. Can plug in a tube and suck the floor.

PRO B650M-A WIFI and ryzen 5 7600x should i buy them or wait next year and any help pls asap
Depends how desperate you are to upgrade
This looks so cool

Will a m2 a+e key device/dongle/adapter... work on a m2 e key slot?
Looks like the a+e fits but not sure if the pinout is the same or if for any reason the device won't work at all
a: 2 of PCIe ×1, USB 2.0, I2C and DP ×4
e: 2 of PCIe ×1, USB 2.0, I2C, SDIO, UART, PCM and CNVi
unless you need the displayport x4, then it should work the same?
though realistically
if the device has the keying for both, then it supports both
kinda like how sata m.2 ssds have b and m key, but can work in both m key or b key slots
though you probably only want to use the b key for sata ssds since m key supports nvme
Unless the slot doesn't support sata like mine 🙃
I was rather steamed when I figured that out. Everything else about this motherboard is fantastic except that one flaw. They did both M.2 slots off the CPU lanes since Zen 4 has 24 lanes usable, but no sata support from CPU.
I was thinking about buying an adapter for one of my Dell wyse 3040 mini to expand storage using SD cards.
It has an internal e key m2 with sdio interface and I checked online and apparently an SD is the only way to get additional storage to work (not flawlessly). Instead of making my own adapter (as suggested by someone) I wanted to buy a cheap one, they just had a+e so I wasn't sure if it'd work
One in image looks like e key
It says it uses sdio which is only supported on e key
Try to see what interface? Your a+e one uses
I'm looking at repairing a z370 motherboard that doesn't power on. I've written some stuff in #cpus-mobo-and-memory about it, and I'm assuming some compoennt, maybe an ic or anything other that may not show visible signs of damage died.
I've always been curious on how nwr checks basically everything about a board from components to voltages, resistances,... using some program that I don't know. Example https://youtu.be/lblWSta8iIk?si=NDTUY19CfO-A8QEK#t=1m30s
If a scheme of the motherboard is available I could start looking for the problem, as far as this is like an open source thing and doesn't cost a kidney.
For repair, please contact me by following the link in the channel ABOUT page.
Buy me a candy at paypal.me/tonynameless
Tools, schematics, boardview files etc are available here
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12XQpmc9tLwlRQjlo3Mn_XwKlVcV8XYGI?usp=sharing
I found the program, it's boardview. Almost all motherboards schematics are available, some of them cost few bucks
Yea boardview is great
Its come in handy so many times for me
I still need to fix my extreme11 boards 😩
what are some non apple phones worth considering? my brother is looking to replace his failing s23
Trading in to samsung if it's not a noticeable issue and it's very very clean he could get a serious refund value for that s23
And go to s24
good idea
I'd personally do pixel if he's ok with switching
The 8A is a very compelling phone
Make triple sure it's spotless and in as good of a condition as possible
The less likely they are to notice a problem, very much a high chance they get the good value
Clean it up
Make it look brand new
factory reset
Or yeah try a pixel or refurbished apple
How's a s23 already failing?
More than likely user error
Even my S20 FE is stilll holding up from user abuse
Drop it enough and things like antennas will shake loose
Dropped it a few times on concrete, fell down the stairs a few times
it doing fine
Me on the other hand? I'm not doing fine, I got some loose screws
User error on the software side I mean
android doesn't do well when its bloated and storage is approaching full.
Dude probably has Samsung bloatware all running at the same time
Bixby anyone?
I hate opening bixby on my tablet
why the hell does the power button bring up bixby instead of powering off my tablet e.e
Can't you disable that?
I have an ipad now that is used for second display
it's been subjected to lesser potential
Hes saying it's overheating
My s23 that I've had to have dropped hundreds of times is perfectly fine
Literally identical to the day I got it, including aesthetically
This things a tank
Does he have a ridiculously insulated case on it?
I told him to try w/o the case
Like one of those goofy asf otterbox
He did not respond to me
I've had two cases for my s23
Both under $15 on amazon
Again I've dropped my phone hundreds of times and it's fine
Yea spigen and ringke cases are about $10-$15
I'm one clumsy mf
My case is from Theo because my S20 FE is from Theo 😂
I bought it off of him after mine got stolen in nov 2022
Tragic
This is what happens when you try to do an event for your university
Now I use whatever this clear case the last owner had
When in doubt, factory reset
Once I got S21 FE
It's not much but I hate bulky cases
I like holding the phone with a feeling close to og
I need to glue the shell around my case lol
Should get one of those water cooled cases
But don't wanna scratch it up
You want it raw
I'd actually run caseless if it weren't for the damage and wear lol
I don't put a case on my phone
I do because I don't like anything being dirty
I leave the peels on everything
Clean out my PC every week
Thats like cortana, nobody uses it
Same until they come off on their own
That's the only thing that is bad about the Meshroom S... so much dust and cat hair gets inside
I have an air purifier on blast, but not enough to keep all of it out
Well your pc also kind of acts like one if it has enough airflow
it's got plenty haha
I was just looking at it yesterday and saw a nice film of cat hair on it in just under a week
Are there any decent thin screen protectors for a samsung s21 that don't interfere with the fingerprint scanner too much? I need anything that can protect the screen from scratches, I'm not looking at a drop resistant protector or anything like that.
The plastic ones that most phones come preapplied with would be fine, I don't like glass protectors as most shatter after a few days of use
Do you have any recommendations for good oleophobic screen coatings products I could buy for cheap?
My phone's coating is non existent...
Anyone know a good keyboard & mouse to use with a usbc tablet?
I already bought a case and just want the keyboard now
Can someone recommend a good laptop for a college student that's not a macbook? Something that runs windows budget is 750$
@chrome dust your duty calls
just word processing? or is there any specific programs that you need to run
with specific hardware requirements
Does your usage involve just text processing or anything more?
Thinkpads usually work btw, its recommended to factory reset the thing to delete all the lenovo bloatware
500$ gets you a refurbished, Touchscreen 14in laptop, fits well for me at least
Depends
Matte is useful for using in places where you might have a bit of sun
Otherwise, yeah
I actually prefer matte
Gloss is annoying as piss when there's literally anything with light in the vicinity
Matte goodge
Ngl I find matte more difficult to see in direct sunlight
With glossy you can just put a cover around it and your fine but on matte it just spreads the glare across the screen at every angle unless it is in a dark room. Learned that the hard way after accidentally getting a matte screen protector for one of my monitors
Well, yeah, direct sunlight you can't really see for either
anyone know when's a goodtime to update my 1660S?
i'd say at 2pm on a saturday

actual answer is when you arent able to run the games you want to (or cant run them at the settings you want to) basically
I can technically run my games, they just only run on low settings based on the games I play (cyberpunk, somehow gtaV, street fighter etc.)
It's not even a 1-hour job lol wym
Actually 2 hours
?
What are you doing for 2 hours
Do you have hard line custom loop?
I can build an entire PC in an hour
2 hours for a GPU swap is crazy
Fr
Well, I guess if you also bundle in PC cleaning
Maybe that can take 2 hours
But just a GPU swap has never taken anyone 2 hours
30 minutes for me lol
Including DDU and reinstall
dude I havent even touched my gpu yet
Im talking like I didnt buy a prebuild 6 years ago
Yep
Skill issue
Fr
2 hours for a GPU swap?
If you include twiddling your thumbs, scrolling on TikTok for an hour and petting your cat then yeah
the 30-45€ "airpods pros" on ebay are all fake right
theyre really suspicious listings and when i message the sellers the answer is very ambigious
They said to me "2x Bluetooth Earbud"
Yeah that sounds fake
My rule of thumb is if it looks too good to be true, it probably is
I heard the Hyperx (cloud 2s?) are good budget headphones
I forgot the name, I think those are the ones im thinking of
they are pretty old at this point but still recommended by some. At that price though I'd probably just go with the pc38x since they are on sale
Oh?
The epos pc38xs?
What Retailer?
Yellow version on drop ig
Yeah the regular version, 119usd right now and from what i understand it is quite a bit better
Open back vs closed back though
True
Closed backs only if it has ANC tbh
"But ANC just makes you feel lonely and makes everything overly quiet" yeah I need that
Lmfao
Nah, ANC is just a patchwork solution for something that can be done more effectively; passive noise isolation
Headphones with good enough noise isolation doesn't need ANC
Yeah. I need it to be quieter
But having pass through is good for those so you can hear without taking them off
Regular closed-backs are pointless compared to ANC and open-backs to me
I don't like the noise anc introduces but I will say anc has fixed a lot of my issues with cabin pressure feel and such on certain devices like the airpods pro and max
I absolutely hated the anc I had with Bose Quietcomfort stuff, too much pressure and I heard the effects it made
I actually had basic Sony headphones over ears that covered sound pretty well. Only issue was...well they didn't charge
I use expensive ish (technically much closer to the budget end than the high end) iems
And Bluetooth headphones
$200 iems, and 200 headphones
And my mic setup was about 400 as well
And my chair is also $400
And my keyboard was also $400
Bro spent more on peripherals than it would take to build my entire PC
im pretty sure my audio equipment alone is worth like 2-3x my pc tower
And here I am with a free keeb and mouse, $150 chair, and $60 headphones
lol
The only thing I really hate paying for is storage. just today I got back from a video shoot and realized this is about to get real expensive when 1hr of footage turned out to be almost 300gb
raw moment
that's the thing, it's not even raw LMAO
I'm glad I decided to not pay the extra licensing for raw
At least it wasn't a terabyte of footage
There
everywhere
To the right
take it back now yall
one hop this time
Oof, way out of my budget sadly
I only want to spend 40/50€
I dont need more expensive openbacks or anything
Just something that isnt horribly muddy or has a really bad V profile
Oh? Well I brought it up because the hyperx cloud you mentioned retails at 100usd. In that budget perhaps look at the razer blackshark v2
I also have the Cloud. Software is buggy but the headset is noice
Also the cloud stinger exists...kinda big but gets the job done
oh hey rtings is working on a dehumidifiers and microwaves test category
Oh?!
I was basing off 2nd hand prices so yeah sorry
I should just buy a new one and not second hand
The blacksharks are also quite expensive for me, the cheapest versions are 80 EUR
Hmm it may have gone up in price
Quick question, should I prioritize gpu speed or Vram?
Based on my budget I'm thinking a basic 3060 with 12gb is nice
but stuff like the amd 7700 or 7600xt also seems nice, plus other variants
id just get 7700xt
plain better gpu
3060 is slower than 7700xt
and 7600xt is a meme
maybe...
Depends on your needs but I would take speed personally
I am looking for a good headphone with budget 150$
any recommendations
also does wirless headphone give stable sound
as like it won't cut off randomly and the sound quality is as good as wired headphones
ok yeah as long as the signal is stable, it would be around the same assuming that the DAC inside is decent ish quality, usually would be similar to onboard audio
the downside of wireless (bluetooth specifically, there are ones with 2.4ghz dongles or whatever) is latency
which sometimes can be noticable
especially when gaming
I don't want headsets since I have a mic
normally you can get a higher quality headphone for the same price if you go wired
hmmm
here are some lists since i gotta go now https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/best/wired
https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/best/by-feature/wireless-bluetooth
oh yeah also a downside of the dongle type of wireless headphones is that it might not have bluetooth so it would require a dongle (which means you cant use it on your phone for instance)
The best wired headphones we've tested are the Sennheiser HD 800 S. These top-of-the-line audiophile headphones are for people looking for the best.
what are the best headphones with best sound quality and noise cancelation? I don't care about price
Best? Time to spend $60,000 on a HE-1
uhh maybe like under 700 😅
lol
idk, i did research for months but that information is long gone (BTW XM4/5 and Bose QC Ultra are just kinda better than most ANC but not the best)
what would u suggest? xm5 or bose?
Prob QC Ultra honestly, since unless there are known issues, the XM5 gets a bad rep from my friends and the XM4 kinda gets hot
Budget wise tho...for 200$ Costco has q45s and Sony refurbished XM4 ain't bad
i guess ill go with the bose then
rtings ranks bose as the best for noise cancelling (as of May 27, 2024)
and for exactly 700 (before tax), the best sounding noise cancelling headphones according to rtings is the Focal Bathys Wireless
the xm4 is also more recommended than the xm5 it seems
apparently the xm4 is more comfortable
build quality is also lowered apparently
10 hour longer battery life than the xm5
as well
charges faster as well
how did sony make almost the same headphone but make it slightly worse

Thank you 🙏
looks like a q1 from keychron
modded? idk
probably
q1 pro specifically
since it has the knob
keychron doesnt sell keycaps like those, so they probably bought the barebones kit
idk what the keycaps are though
that monitor stand looks like those herman miller ones or whatever lmao
Unsure about the laptop tho
it's a macbook
Is it a macbook?
probably
Damn I had it on my mind
it's probably like
lmao
a logitech mouse lmao
maybe those ceycaps?
not quite
I thought it was the layout
missing some colours
also some colours arent the same
but look at biip to see what their keycaps are like
Y'all never guess the mouse pad
it's not a ltt dot com one is it
what mousepad is it lmao
You'll never have guessed
if only there wasnt compression
Goliathus razer
nahh hahaha
yeah the mouse i recognized, didnt know the sku but i knew it was something from logitech
is that a fern?
it doesnt really look like one?
it looks more like grass
though blades too wide
waddahail is this
Mickey elephant
kasane teto if she was gray
*winks furiously *
You just need to
fam
can you recognise these caps?
can't really tell
When it doubt, etsy or amazon
just joking about the keycpas lmao
He's got a marble window shelf you see that
Oh he def american af
Practically doxxed
Who the hell has popcorn walls
Demon Slayer fan spotted
I have the same wall
Mmmm asbestos wall
Btw if your house was made before the turn of the century (2000s) there is a risk of any popcorn paint walls or ceilings to contain asbestos
So if the house is over 20 years old, and you have that stuff, it is better to test to make sure that there's no asbestos in it
It was banned by the 80s but there were still some installations that may have still contained asbestos
The house I was in 2 houses ago had popcorn ceilings
Hell, where I live, we didn't stop exporting that crap till the 2010s or smth ☠️
That was definitely a house
🏠
My Razer Kraken V3 pro wired headphones works for audio but not as a mic, anyone know why? btw my motherboard is a Gigabyte Z590 UD ATX LGA1200 Motherboard.
is the port you're plugged into (im assuming 3.5mm) a combo jack? if not, that's probably why
most desktops i see dont use combo jacks, only if they only have one 3.5mm on it
if you see 2, normally it's not a combo jack
The back has a blue, green, and pink port while the front has one mic/headphone front port
Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case
Thats the case I use
its 3.5mm but whats the problem with that? I can hear the audio from all apps but can't speak back to people like in discord
if it isnt a combo jack then it doesnt have the conductors to connect the mic as well
or at least, i dont think it's a uhhh trrs connector?
I have to have a combo jack which is one of these things?
yeah possibly
ok, I guess I will give it a shot instead of ordering a SteelSeries headphone
if you have a laptop, or a phone with a headphone jack, you can test with that as well
also another common mistake people might make is leave their mic muted, sometimes there's a switch on the headphones
Im just going to order one and wait tomorrow to see what happens next. Thank you
So good news, I found out where the audio problem was at. It was in my privacy settings where I forgot to turn it on. I just didn’t see discord or any other app on the list that use mic so I assume something was wrong with my app or something else.
@chrome dust one more laptop request
Fiancé needs something than an old Chromebook
Something lightweight, with a touchscreen.
Cheap as you can go.
Im looking for a surface pro for college, does anyone have recommendations for one under 1,500 usd? I see a bunch of them but Im not sure which one is the best
why a surface pro specifically
Can be refurbished**
I think its good for college its basically a tablet and notes
lenovo yoga also can do that
Used ipad is a pretty strong argument tbh
Yeah depends on your budget. A sub 500usd ipad can do almost everything a student needs. Anything more can be done at the library if ever needed
is weight an issue? In that case a surface pro makes sense
But I only paid 800$ for a samsung S9 FE and Thinkpad
Not when you consider you'd then have to buy $300 in accessories just to use the dang thing
I mean you work under the assumption it has 90% of those when you buy it. But there's always a used galaxy tablet if you're apple adverse
ipads are light
Sure ig. But the convenience of an actual Windows computer can't be replicated with a tablet
At least, I didn't like my tablet enough
depends on what you're doing tbf
purely notetaking is fine with a tablet
The most expensive accessory you need is maybe an apple pencil which can run you 50-120usd. The ipad itself is ~300usd then you can get a case with keyboard if you want for around 50-100usd. Though I have to say I often ended up using the on screen keyboard over a physical one unless it was external
You have to keep in mind tgat if these are the sort of applications you are looking to use a tablet-like notetaking device is certainly not what you are looking for
I know way too many college students that got fairly expensive laptops because “the classes required it” only to find they almost never needed it and wished they had x tablet lol
I honestly just got a scholarship that lets me pick out a laptop, so i was thinking surface pro because its basically an ipad but is there a better laptop out there? Thats like a tablet?
2 in 1 laptops
Or if you don't need to fold it, touchscreen laptops
It would help if we know what applications need to be run
Its not gonna be used for heavy use, just notes, a lot of tabs in the background
Basically like a tablet but i like having windows on it yk
Maybe some games? If its even strong enough to run any
Then yeah look at the Lenovo yoga line
Not detachable but folds all the way back
So it's like a tablet
Im picky i like the detachable ones 😔
Unlock more possibilities than ever with the Pro designed for a Pro like you. The first consumer laptop-to-tablet PC based on the Intel® Evo™ platform and designed to light up the best of Windows 11, Surface Pro 8 combines the power of a laptop with the flexibility of a tablet, and every angle in...
I found this one, it looks pretty good to me
Well, in that case, idk if there's any other good quality detachable windows tablet that competes with the surface pro
Real
Rog has a few gaming focused tablets but idk how good they are
Not to mention they are probably closer to the 2k range in price
Now that I think about it, for school stuff I would just figure out what note taking app you want to use and what device works best with it because a lot of this is app specific
Goodnotes on an iPad
Base iPad plus Goodnotes and an Apple Pencil. That’s all you need. Cheaper than a decent laptop with a crappy stylus and OneNote
Samsung's notes is pretty nice too
Tablet includes pen in the price and if you have an Android device you can quickshare between them
Same goes for windows as well
But again, depends on what features you want
Surface, 2 years down the line it'll probably start struggling to exist sometimes, not a great laptop
Exactly what happened with my pro 7
Randomly fans just ramp up, gets really hot, lags occasionally
Then the hinge broke off at year 4
And uh, yeah OneNote is a little temperamental on occasion
their requirements are fully detachable, windows, and can run alot of tabs ☠️
i dont think there's much options for these requirements lmao
This is fair...
can someone suggest a good, cheap surge protector?
just go to walmart
find something name brand
GE
general electric?
How much surge protection you need is an important factor. That can range from "mild static shock" to "direct lightning strike on the building wiring" and the cost varies as you might imagine.
1440 joules is good
Imo invest the $200-300 for a professional installation of a whole home surge protector
(the surge protector is like $100, and the installation may be like $200)
If you have a larger house, it would cost more, but for a single detached home in the US, I think $300 would be a fairly good estimate
This does protect your entire house
will this be enough for a desktop?
yeah
honestly speaking, a ups makes more sense for a desktop
well, surge protection is still useful
but you'll probably run into more power outages than power surges
and ups's ususally have surge protection
Unfortunately, you also can't replace the surge protection once it's worn out for ups
how often are power surges ☠️
i havent had a single power surge in the 3 years i've used this ups
also i need to buy new batteries for it soon
Every time there's a power outage, when the power comes back on there's a small surge. It's usually well within the spec for any connected devices, but it doesn't hurt to be able to filter that out.
We get outages at least a couple times a year thanks to the storms that have been increasing in intensity this past decade
true
neglected that bit
the fairly small power surges from high draw devices and power coming back after outages are usually so small that i dont really consider them surges in my mind, especially since most devices can handle it, but yeah true
i wonder if the surge suppression or the relay/contactor in my ups would die first though
or maybe it would be the cooling fan
i do wonder what the cooling fan is in my ups
and if it's replaceable
though i doubt it would die in the lifetime of the ups? since it's only on during battery power
Honestly I'm not sure about that
The fact that they still use lead acid is kinda weird tho
Cheaper
at least initially
long term, lithium may be around the same, or cheaper?
also with lithium, that likes to stay like, 80% of the capacity for longer lifespan?
Oh that's true
while lead acid prefers to be kept at 100% charge
Yeah that's a fair point
so yeah, they would need more lithium capacity for a certain capacity of a ups for it to last for 10 years or maybe even more, so that also raises the costs
definitely more power dense though
energy dense
oh yeah a benefit of conventional lead acid battery UPSs, you can pretty easily mod it to add way more capacity
could use car batteries
can even use flooded lead acid batteries (but highly not recommended due to spill and explosive hazard lmao)
What if you just used a lake as a lead acid battery
you'd need quite an acidic lake
lmao
lakes tend to be higher on the ph scale which probably wont work
Looking for a cheap but good ups to power 550w pc (max it draws under load) and 50w monitor. From the little I understand about ups I'd need at least a 1000VA if the power factor is 0.6. Could also be a 800VA with 0.8 pf. So that they're able to provide a constant 600W+ output.
People recommend true sine wave for computers and other sensitive electronics. Recommendations? Thanks
power factor of most psu's are actually fairly close to 1
my ups says that my pc is using around the same w as va
usually AVRs should be fine for pcs? havent really had issues with that on the cheaper pc, though my main rig does use a pfc ups
Main problem on Amazon is the one they sell are rated for a certain output and barely meet 60% of that before overloading
CP1000PFCLCD
BR1000MS
those 2 models (cyberpower and APC) should meet your needs, both sine wave
cyberpower is $200, apc is 300
er
actually apc is in cad so it isnt 300
ok cp and apc are both around the same price
Mmmh
I was thinking of spending less than €100 but I guess there's no chance if I want true sine wave
yeah true sine wave isnt cheap
if you go for simulated sine wave, that you can get for much cheaper
Batteries ain’t cheap
I dont know if anyone would know, but is there any gaming keyboards in Norwegian Nynorsk (Or Bokmål, doesn't matter for me) language format?
Checked amazon and they only have work keyboards
You can often just switch the key caps
Most keyboards use Cherry MX style stems
Lol np
buy keyboard, buy keycap on amazon
Yep then you just change your input language from inside your OS
Anyone have any experience with the VITURE PRO glasses? Or gaming with them please?
tried looking for some but i kept getting japanese keycaps
looked on another website, found this

Or these
they get more expensive depending on the material, pbt ususally costs more than abs, but is more durable
double shot has a more durable print
do they think im gonna smash my keys lol?
kinda hard, you could try aliexpress
as much as i hate ali, theyre just keycaps
ill check it out
first few keycap sets are on sale
Oh wow they look nice
keychron would be higher quality probably
it do be keychron yeah
yeah most are pbt
something to consider, especially since they're on sale rn
i dont think i have that type of keyboard
the enter key wouldnt fit
i have a havit keyboard
is it ISO or ANSI?
ISO is the one with the big enter
ANSI is the one in the embed image
iso's the one with the L shaped enter button
ansi
it should fit i'd think?
idk what keyboard you have exactly but if it's standard, it probably would
main thing that you usually need to take note of is the spacebar size
this yes?
yeah it should fit
you don't technically need to replace the enter keeycap on the original keyboard
or the spacebar
wdym? like i should just keep what i have now?
if it doesnt fit, just use the same enter as you have already
just replace all the other keycaps except for the enter and the spacebar
is what i'm saying
i figured i would just do that
change everything except the caps that are different for foreign typing
looking at the image though, it should fit though
nothing about the sizing on your keyboard looks non-standard
last thing you want after spending a fortune on a good keyboard is for your keycaps to wear down STUPID fast. Thats the purpose of higher quality materials on the caps. They dont wear through to the plastic, print face stays and or the surface doesnt become slick and shiny as fast. ect
our new wifi is supposedly really good, but for some reason every 3 minutes i get a huge internet lag spike, my ping goes from 90 ms to 850 ms, could my pc be the issue?
but it only lasts a second
what's the cheapest / under USD150 Android tablets with active digitizer support u'd recommend ?
(refurbished/good condition used is ok)
what does "supposely really good" mean
just got told it was really good no elaborating
Are you using your own router?
Or just using the modem router combo the ISP gave you
If it's the latter, yeah that's kinda expected
Only things you can do is turn up the antenna power on your PC
Like, a friend? Or the isp lol
that's basically every tablet ever rn
oh, something that supports pens?
maybe tab s6 lite?
my stepdad
you can do that?
yeah but it can just kinda crowd out all the other wifi devices in the same room that way
so everything else suffers
eh i don’t think everyone else needs that much
or, they might
idk, we got quantum fiber then got some boosters
is quantum your internet provider?
yea
oh gotcha lmao I was a little confused
Windows button + X is a shortcut for opening device manger btw
then you select device manager from the little popup
Under Network adapters, double click your wifi card
Click on the Advanced tab and scroll all the way down
Click Transmit Power and set that to High
you can also do other optimizations while you're there, actually
Double check 802.11n/ac/ax Wireless Mode has AX selected. If you don't see AX as an option, just make sure AC is selected
Set MIMO Power Save Mode to No SMPS
Set Throughput Booster to Enabled
@calm mural
I’ll do that when I get home, thank you
thanks yup I see that recommended a lot,
but even refurb still around 180
I was wondering as close to 100 as possible but that'd only leave old used/refurb Galaxy Tab S series like S3 or S4
which prob no longer get security updates
pen tablets are worth a little bit since they're useful for notetaking; refurb usually has a little warranty which is nice, but you can definitely find stuff for cheaper that arent refurb, but dont have warranty of course
yep certified refurbs for the peace of mind,
used stuff or even seller refurbs I'd have no idea what to really expect
S6 Lite go for as low as ~150 ebay refurb so not too bad 🤔
I'm currently looking for an ups for my pc and other small devices.
I think I understood most stuff stuff about Watts, VA, apparent/active/reactive power, power factors... I'd like someone to help me on this topic. From what I understood, at least for pc power supplies, the active power is the one actually used by the components, reactive power is the heat generated from the power supply and apparent power is the sum of the two (aka what gets really drawn from the outlet), all related to the psu efficiency (80plus thing), right?
So, what are VA and Watts on an ups? I already measured the maximum power draw of my PC from the outlet (apparent power?) ≈ 550w
What would be the minimum ups requirement considering only my pc + possible brief power draw spikes?
I'm not really good when it comes to actual electricity and all units of measurement together with long and confusing explanations I find online
As far as I know, VA is equivalent to W.
Id say a safe bet would be a 1000VA ups
I run my desktop and other electronics including monitors and stuff and when utility power is lost, it'll run for 5 minutes with everything on
This is also mathematically true, you can check it
va = w when the load is resistive
inductive loads usually is higher
residential housing is usually billed by the watt hours, while commercial buildings, especially factories are billed by the va
I'm not sure if I got this right but I read somewhere (I may have got it wrong) that the ups can provide continuous operation as far as the total power draw of the devices (what they would consume from the outlet) doesn't exceed the ups Watt rating, and you can actually go past that for a short time as far as you stay within the VA rating.
Oh right I got this from chat gpt but it can't be trusted much yk
tbf
most ratings are slightly under the actual max capacity of something
like, 500w psus usually have OPP set a bit higher than 500w
True, true
