I found a product key {33628a12-6787-4b9f-95a1-92449f69fae0} that had "Name not available" as its name... will try uninstalling this one to see if it fixes my issue
YES
It worked!!
After all it was 3 hidden installations of a redistributable behind the name “Name not available”
Thanks for your help Fal
is anyone available to hep me with some storage and bios support
there are loads of people willing to help if you would just ask your question 😔
In Firefox, is anyone aware of a "Reveal in Explorer"-equivalent feature ?
- Search results do not reveal bookmarks' paths
- Bookmark Search Plus 2 shows u paths,
but does not 'teleport' u there
I wanted to be "teleported"/redirected there, like u'd expect from a "Reveal in Explorer" feature,
instead of having to dig nested bookmark folders
alternatively, if Firefox Bookmarks manager / "Library" were to have a URL/path bar u could copy and paste the paths, that'd help a lot too
I have this really old pc with a i5 3570, gt710, it keeps throwing blue screen errors and all are different, I'm not sure what is the exact problem, when I searched those error codes, it was about faulty ram, system error etc, I recently installed an SSD with windows 10 in it
Sometimes it shows errors in dd
Run the bat file pinned here
Scans and fixes windows errors
Oh okay...I'll restart and see of the problem persists
my pc is so slow it just windows 3.1'd itself
So i have this gpu a 980ti and its overclocked. It doesn work with my 700w psu but i have a 1030 and it works. but when i plug the 980ti in somebody else's pc it works. How can i get the 980ti to work? can it be a psu problem?
Literally sounds like a power issue. If it works at idle but not load, simple thing to try is lowering clockspeed and/or voltage to stock or a bit lower. Also a better thread is the one about gfx cards or cases/psus.
what power supply? if its a bad psu it might not be able to handle it
^
so im trying to turn on toggle keys and its not working
the one where it makes a sound when you turn on caps lock
its not working
I get the error irql_less_or_not_equal. I only installed the nvidia display driver and Intel drivers, is it because of a faulty memory module, cus it didn't occur when I used my other Ram sticks.
How can I chech my ram
use 1 stick of ram in each dimm and keep putting it over by one and see if you still get the error
also try both sticks if you're using 2
try all 4 if you're using 4
I have two slots and have 3 different sticks...
are they all diff brands and speeds?
Ig yess
eek
Bought in three different timelines
Probably not the best way of doing things, some sticks of ram wont be compatible but they will also slow down ur ram to whatever the slowest is at
best to go with a 2x16/2x8 kit 🤷♂️
It's DDR3, I knew it is bad to mix up sticks but i didn't expect my pc to keep crashing
It restarts before i even login
I have an SSD installed so it crashes really fast
yeah im using 2 diff models of ddr3 atm till i get my ddr4 comp motherboard, i dont recommend it, if it works gg but alot of the time it wont
Oh yeah and is the error 'IRQL_NOT LESS OR EQUAL error somehow related to bad memory??
These sticks came free actually, I'll tell my dad to buy a new one instead
it can be from bad ram modules yes
Al least ddr3 can be had pretty cheap if you hunt. Well decent priced I mean. $40 or less for a fine 2x8GB kit
I need a windows 11 pro key for cheap but I want a trusted seller?

No retail keys?
Not unless you consider 110$ cheap
Or you can leave unactivated if you don't mind watermark
OEM keys and retail keys are pretty much the same for an average user
Iirc, OEM keys can’t be transferred between installs.
You mean 1 key on 2 separate actively used pcs?
Reminds me of the bs calling Microsoft in the past to reactivate after getting a new mobo. Glad I have an extra key for future build then. Some people dual-screen, I'm gonna dual-PC
I mean, they still do that iirc.
You can link your ms account to the profile if you want to avoid that
Any good softwares to move windows to a different drive
I used AOMEI Partition Assistant but iirc I had to purchase a license to use it
Was hoping for a free one, I have one but I think I have to get rid of everything else on the drive to move windows cause I can't select specific files
Marcium reflect
That's the one I have but not sure on how to just copy windows files
if you want just windows, reinstall
So you just want a fresh version of Windows? Then just use Windows media creation tool onto a usb and do a fresh install
I was thinking of doing a fresh install but how would that work if there's already a version on there?
If there's already a running copy of windows on the drive you would otherwise clone to, what's the problem?
So basically I've got a new drive an sn750 I wanna move my current windows onto but cloning just the windows file is the part I'm unsure on cause in Marcium reflect you can't select certain files. But if I do a fresh install I'll have two copy's on separate drives unless I just delete that one
Would that mean I'd need another Windows key
Anyone familiar with TrueNAS?
Fresh install generally means formatting over current stuff
You basically just erase over it
You either copy over the whole drive or install a new copy of Windows, you should just be able to covert the windows key over or you could link your ms account and it will copy over the key. Sounds like you just want to copy over the whole drive then format your old drive so you don't have to go through setting everything up again
This new drive is only 500gb and the old one is a tb which is full so think I'll do a clean install and delete the windows files off the old one
Yeah you can fresh install to empty and copy over what you want before formatting other drive(s)
I came here to say one thing

hey guys i have a question is virtualbox.org safe
i heard about it never used it
Is this a real question?
ummm no
virtualbox is safe lol
Virtualbox is one of the most used virtual machine programs. Top 3 at least.
Hey, I have a question for y’all
!ask
Does anyone have any suggestions on getting a copy of windows 7 for an old Toshiba Satellite laptop? Microsoft seems to have pulled all downloads of it a while ago and the recovery partition is gone, I tried windows 10 but there were far too many driver issues to keep it on.
I’m afraid there no legit way to do it. There’s always the non-legit ways though.
That's kind of what I figured. I did find a few promising things on the internet archive, so we'll see how that goes. I was able to revert to windows 7, but something is causing a service host process to constantly eat up RAM, I'm not sure if it's a memory leak or what. Either way I'd like to try a clean install, the laptop is eleven years old but has somewhat decent specs for a media center which is the plan if I ever get it working smoothly.
can i get someone to help me please?
We kinda need the problem to help you
my start menu is not popping up anymore whatsoever.
i know i know. i'm just tired
and frustrated
already ran through command and powershell and nothing is working
Did you try restarting explorer.exe
yes
nothing
last resort is reinstalling windows 10
but my wife has a lot of stuff on here too and i wanna talk to her about it first
Run the repair batch file in the pins
This one
What is that? I’m sorry, I’m about to head off for the night
It runs a couple of built in windows utilities, sfc (system file checker) and dism (deployment imaging service management) that repair the base windows files in case of corruption or deletion.
So I'm in the amd folder on my pc do I need to keep all the old driver installers there?
like the exe files you ran? Not usually. I keep or DL latest ones once in a while because they don't use much room.
could someone help me figure out why I can't open snip and sketch using the print screen key specifically while I'm tabbed into discord? It works every time if I'm not clicked into the window
Is it keybinded to anything in Discord?
no, it's actually a new windows + discord install, too
I checked focus assist in case that had anything to do with it, but that's turned off
leaving this question for anyone who can help me. so i come to find out that there is some firewall on my computer that i dont know about. apparently a windows 11 feature is disabling its own firewall if it detects that there is another active firewall in the computer.
so how would i go about finding what firewalls my computer has?
What anti virus program do you use?
it was mcafee. but it's turned off because i never renewed it
Uninstall it
And ull be using the norma;l windows firewall
nothing. i think some sort of firewall found its way onto my computer
this is really stupid. but i was trying to get directplay to work, and i may have downloaded a third party firewall type program that would apparently repair damaged and corrupt files. i uninstalled it tho, so windows should be the only firewall i have right now
If ur refering to the windows scan and fix file thats pinned here, its not a firewall or a program
hi i am experiencing an issue which causes some games ( around 90% of my games ) to lag to around 3 - 10 fps depending on the game , this glitch randomly happens while playing , also any audio from outside of the game will be distorted , when this happens the fps drop effect out side apps , not my cursour and and the animations in the taskbars tho , ive tried restarting my pc , and clean installing the drivers using ddu ,the issue isnt probably a performance or thermal thing since geforce overlay or any other fps showing app shows normal fps .
the only games that seem nnot to cause this glitch is minecraft ( bedrock edition , havent tried java )
am on a laptop , idea pad gaming 3 , gtx 1650 , intel core i5-10300h 8 gb ram around 500 gb ssd
this is haunting me and makes me a bit depressed every time i remember it exsists cuz it kills half of my games for me ,
also in taskmanger windows managers started taking 1.5gb of ram
and gpu usage drops
ram isnt free , why did they sell me this laptop then
its a gaming laptop that crashes when running games
...
also am scared to buy ram with 30% of my money ( am still in middle school ) then for the bug to stay
Just get more ram
how to know what type of ram sticks are in my laptop
try hwinfo64 and cpu-z shows basic info
This is often accurate too, in case they decided to solder your ram it'll tell you
https://www.crucial.com/upgrades
hmm , the clock is lower than what the ram stick says
but bruh , the clock says 1600mhz , here it says 3200mhz but taskmanager says 2933
1600mhz is 3200 ram
Since double data rate
ok
Task manager often reads cpu and/or ram clock wrong
either snip and sketch doesn't work while specific apps are open, or Discord blocks some shortcuts from working while it's focused. Anyone know how I should troubleshoot this?
Anyone know if switching from Office 2010 to Office 365 will make it monthly subscriptions?
365 is always subscription based. And I hate it.
is like 250 tho
When viewing on Desktop it wasnt complaining about not being available in my region and was only like 1.5x the price of Personal ($80 Personal, ~$125 Home)
Either way, still dont know whether 2010 upgrade is Personal or Home
@crisp spire
Ok so hawk can you boot into recovery mode and then start up the command prompt?
or rather advanced options
and command prompt
cant rn but its not that tough ull be fine
So I clicked "setup my pin" and now it's just stuck on "just a moment "
ok then hard reboot your pc because its probably not really gonna go through
hold power button down
Done
ok you know the screen where you go to boot to safe mode?
go to that screen
dont go to safe mode
So the hold shift and restart?
And then advanced options?
yeah
Ok now what?
choose that and hit next
Ok done its in the loading screen
Restarting now
It works!
Thanks man @crisp spire
np
for the future id recommend googling around as to what something someone on the internet recommends actually does btw
also id recommend running the windows scan and fix file pinned here once rn
@digital karma
Windows scan you mean the antivirus?
Oh I should run that rn?
yeah
killbot is geometry dash right?
I forgot who sent me the youtube link for a superlite windows 10 iso and other custom iso's
I think it was Sips or someone else?
@tall lichen hate to bother you but were you the one who sent me that video about the superlite windows 10 iso?
Its been a while
no
Forks maybe
perhaps
it might've been a user that is no longer here
I know Forks has this
#overclocking message
lol
Tbf this isnt superlight as much as stripped of almost all functions to give maximum benchmark perf
Yeah you dont get internet anymore or nothing
if i have 2 gpus connected to 2 diffrent displays and run two diffrent tasks that are gpu heavy not that cpu heavy, will each game act if have the same gpu , but a weaker cpu?
and if soo can i make it that the deticated gpu in a laptop connected to an extarnal display but the integrated graphics to my display?
What
Why would you use 2 gpus
You can't play 2 games at once anyway
Like you can have open but you'd only be able to look at one while interacting with the other
just askig
Hey, I just bought an hp victus and it won't let me get to the desktop unless I create a Microsoft account.
Is there a way to bypass this? I really don't want to make an online account just to use my laptop.
dont connect to internet when making account if on windows 10
Thanks, will try that.
Not even an option
Won't allow me to progress without internet
They're getting really aggressive with their tactics
Not even a button to put the laptop in airplane mode or turn the wifi off
Sweet Jesus, I gave it dummy info just to get through it for now, and now it's updating to Win11 without my input.
I have no control over this laptop and it's pissing me off
I really hate how I can't seem to "choose" which of the priority updates are downloaded, they all are.
There's an easy way to stop it from updating to 11. Disable your tpm and the pc will be deemed incompatible.
I had to go through two sets of setups just to get to the desktop
It wouldn't allow me to edit any settings that would stop that process
can anyone help me with some basic raspberry pi problems?
like not being able to do a headless setup
not sure if its because its connecting to a 5ghz instead of a 2.4 or something else...
(doing headless because no peripherals are working w my pi)
ping me if you could help
are you using a headless iso to flash to it
also generic peripherals that don't require proprietary drivers work best, keeb most important to get working
is the program "Teams Machine-Wide Installer" by Microsoft actually from Microsoft Teams?
I had Teams installed for school but i uninstalled it, but that other app is still there, is it safe to uninstall?
Yes it is, it installs teams on any profile that doesn't have it when they log in, so if you want to uninstall you need to uninstall both teams and machine wide installer
alright, thx
anyone know what tpm 2.0 is? says its needed for win11
it isnt something you can really add to your system
so if you dont have it you dont have it
nvm i found out how to enable it in bios
i was just looking at the requirements and the pc health check said it wasnt enabled
ig not
you gonna install win 11?
what cpu you got?
ryzen 5 3600
eh i would stick with 10
its really only makes a difference with 12th gen intel chips
i heard its not that good with gaming
looks better but i wont switch for a while
some systems can have tpm disabled by default
It's only recently manufacturers have started pushing bios updates with it enabled by default
A poor reskin at that
if I have slow startup and when I shutdown my pc there error messages shown and it automatically closed
You can see the errors in the event viewer. Filter by critical to see if there's anything major.
Move the columns so we can see the event source better
It's not the kind of issue that whocrashed picks up
Critical are the only ones that will throw the errors you're seeing. Having a few can be fine depending on the issue.
Click the top one
Oh wait nvm that's 2021
3rd from the top, the one from this month. Click that and show the bottom of the window
Hit the details tab and that should be the last thing to tell if it's relevant at all
Ok, looks like your headset driver
See if you still have errors with the headset unplugged
not every time it shows
how do i scan a drive other than C drive with sfc/scannow? I forgot
Hmm. My headset has those same kind of intermittent errors too, and it does make the boot time longer when it's plugged in. Try leaving it out when you're not using it for a few days.
Offwindir=X:/Windows offbootdir=Y:/efi
are u trying to run checkdisk?
thanks
replace d with drive letter ofc
Or just chkdsk D: /r /f
oh fair yeah
guessing i replace D with whatever drive im scanning?
ive been having random crashes
so im checking all drives for corrupt files
Chkdsk will check the physical sectors of the specified drive, and attempt to recover any files in corrupt sectors. Sfc will make sure critical system files are intact.
Running both is not a bad idea.
Sfc is included in the pinned bat file but chkdsk is not
alr thanks
one of these drives barely has anything on it, like 1/20th of my main drive and its taking much longer
even tho its an hdd im guessing it found smthn
It's a hdd, 'nuf said.
Seems they sometimes choke up on a random task
@rocky cedar you busy?
my friend is having an issue installing drivers for their igpu (amd), minecraft gives an error when trying to launch and it says to get up to date drivers
i have them go through the install process, it gives an error message saying windows blocked it
What driver is Minecraft looking for?
gpu im fairly sure
theyre extremely out of date
since they got the pc
3200g, so vega 8
error 204 i believe
alr thanks
Bro
This scan is still at 27% total
I think it might be my ehdd
Nvm
It's an internal
Would empty space be able to cause crashes?
If that makes any sense
Because this drive has maybe 300gb on it with over 3tb of empty space
If there's hard fault errors or physical bad sectors yes
Even an empty bad sector can cause the read arm to skip as it passes by
Oh also
I miss explained it earlier
The crashes I get are freezes, not proper crashes
Everything freezes, other than my cursor
And I can still talk on discord if I'm in a call
Only way to turn the pc off is via holding the power button until it forces a shut off
I thought it could be a drivers issue, but those are up to date
Happened four times now
Just before the first one I got a blue screen
@vestal ibex does that sound like it could be a drive issue?
Drivers can cause hangs like that yeah. Or a failing peripheral. Or a bad drive, as you're testing now.
My monitors are all fine, no way all three died simultaneously
Really
The headphones are pretty good
I won them, shure srh 440s
Mouse is a roccat kone air or pro, I forget which
If it's a peripheral there's usually a driver fault critical error in event viewer around the time of the hang
Just happened again
Becoming more frequent
Happened while the scan was going, meaning the progress was lost
Was only at 48% after all that time
At this point I'm unplugging one drive at a time
I dont need all the storage I have anyways
And isolating the problem would be good
Anyone familiar with windows automatic repair loops ?
It's just realtek, so "shut down anyway" .
There is no problem to fix
tbh I have something like that once in a while.
yes
If it bugs you enough you can reduce the time the system gives it to respond before forcing it to quit
Hmm regedit?
Is it possible to hook up an iPhone into OBS as a camera and if so how to do it
you can use something like iriun webcam which is free and then setup a camera input in obs
Okie
Speaking about camera what’s a good budget@friendly camera I can use to@record videos
You can use your phone camera through obs virtual camera and an app like iriun or ip webcam for starting out if you want btw
Any tutorials
there are some on youtube for iriun
Same for ip webcam
K
Yep that's one way.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\HungAppTimeout
Thanks! never knew i needed this till rn
actually that key doesnt exist on win 11, unless i need to manually add?
figured it out
Imagine using any new OS within a year of it being out, couldn't be me.
rip Win7. EDIT thnx Fal for that reg edit
are there any good/easy to set up tts programs for VB cable?
is there a way to park cores using windows power plan? thought this would be it but it doesn't seem to work
i want a power plan where i only have 4-6 cores active to save power/thermals in lighter games
(it's a laptop)
still seeing 4.6ghz effective across all 8 cores when running a stress test with above settings applied
my audio randomly cuts out and i get the loudspeaker with an x next to it, is there any way to stop this from happening?
and when it says audio is playing no audio comes out
i have tried restarting windows 3 times and it hasnt done anything
tried updating audio driver?
try a different port, front io, back io, etc
ok so i can get audio through my bluietooth speaker but not my wired headphones
or my laptop's speakers
anyone know what drivers i sould install
thank you for the great advice everyone
not sure why ive connected the pc to a tv , and glitched stopped then ive stopped using the tv and the glitch still havent happen
why?
i swear i am going to have a mental breakdown
i cant find out why my laptop's audio just wont
ive been trying to fix it for 5 hours
@torn thicket
now i am getting audio but it keeps freezing
and it wasnt when i first got the audio working again
it is also causing my frames to drop while im on my desktop/watching yt, and it freezes my mouse
Screen tearing?
In December i had been getting help here about my PC bluescreening. It was suggested to me that i remove my CMOS battery and let the BIOS reset and see if that helped. To begin with, it seemed like that had worked. I did not bluescreen again after doing that but then today after going to play farming simulator 22, right as i joined the game, my PC bluescreened again with the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. Prior to me joining the game, i had just been watching youtube/netflix etc. Nothing all that demanding. So I am wondering if perhaps when i go to play the game, it is pushing a certain piece of hardware that is making me bluescreen but i do not know how i can troubleshoot this to identify what is causing the error.
Can anyone recommend some troubleshooting to find if any of my hardware has an error with it that could be causing this issue?
Are you running your ram/cpu with an overclock?
No. Set to defult
Okay, download and run testmem5 extreme anta profile to test your ram,
Do you have an official site to provide that i can get it from?
It's not really an official app to begin with. It's from some guy in Russia and looks sketchy AF but no one has found anything bad with it.
Ok well maybe an alternative way to put it is what is the best place for me to download it from that you know is a "safe" copy? 😂
aha. I was just looking at this page actually, wondering if it was good enough. Thanks
Np
Make sure you open it, click load config and exit, select extreme anta, then reopen it
Ok so when i have done that part now. Loaded Extreme1@anta777
Relaunched it and it says "The program in compatibility mode, need to run with Administrator privileges"
I exit and then right click and run as admin and it gives a popup saying "To enable AWE, you must run with Administrator privileges"
I think the test is running now....How do i know when it is done?
Also the tests seems to be so random too...
2,2,4,12,2,5,7,1,13,2,5,13,2,8
dont avoid filter
Oh....sorry. Wasnt even trying to avoid any filter. Did not realise swearing was a no no here. Don't see it mentioned in rules either 🤔
pg
I was reading online about how to use the program etc and saw mention of it saying to edit the CFG file. Which i didnt actually do. Is it worth me changing anything in this?
Depends how much ram you have tbf, takes about 2hrs for 16gb, thats pretty linear scaling with other amounts
Nope ~500mb available is right
Nah that would just be for making a custom config. Which you've already loaded.
I saw someone on reddit mention there 16GB kit took 25-30 mins but i guess mine may be different seeing as its still going at 36 mins.
Oh alright then
How many cycles does it do?
Nah, even at 3800cl14 it still takes sips like 55 mins on a 16gb kit iirc
3
Wouldn't recommend sitting and watching
That was somewhat what i was doing seeing as i didnt realise this was a slow test 😂
This thing guzzling up all my RAM like a chrome tab right now as well so i guess i can't do much else on here right now.
Apparently my CPU is at 100% right now too. Is that normal for when this runs?
Welp...wish i didnt start running this late evening. I don't normally like to leave my PC on over night seeing as its right next to my bed and not the quietest... Guess it's staying on tonight though
You could set an auto shutdown timer, but you'd also need a way to save results
You could probably set a timer to set a screenshot then shutdown the pc
Sounds like extra effort on something i would have to try learn right now that i dont really wanna learn tonight 😂 But worth knowing i can do that in the future though for stuff.
I wonder if my PC can still handle Netflix running while the test is going...or is it best to just do nothing with it?
Ideally you'd leave it but hardware accelerated Netflix should be OK. Might stutter still.
Ok fair enough.
I just noticed on the test that the available has now changed to be 1135mb. Earlier on it was at 565mb. Does it free up the memory once its done checking it or something?
It'll vary during the test. Windows might also page out inactive tasks.
Ok
Ok well cycle 1 just finished and it's 54 mins in so i guess if thats the average for it overall per cycle then that's not so bad
It'd hard to explain, in almost every game I play there's some level of tearing going on, almost like my frames cant keep up. In some games, it feels more like I'm playing at a lower hz level than what I have it set to. For example, when playing Hunt Showdown, my character will lag back for a moment before jumping up to where I would be if my frames kept up and my game feels like its running at 60 hz. Onn Rocket league, my game will stutter every so often and make it hard to play sometimes. And on Rainbow Six siege, my frames just have a hard time syncing with the movements occasionally. My computer is making every game I play not smooth at all and almost like I'm playing at 60 or 90 hz when I have everything set to 165hz. Could reinstalling windows be a solution to this?
Do you have vsync or vrr (gsync, freesync) on?
I enable vsync in all of my games
Does your monitor support vrr? If so leave that on and vsync off
not sure how to check that
I looked it up and don't see variable refresh rate anywhere in my settings but I turned on a setting to reduce latency and improve performance well see if that works
Hey can some one pls help me I’m having a problem with my new pc
!ask
Are you definitely getting near 165 fps? If framerate is pretty far from refresh rate, gonna have tearing afaik. Sounds like typical obsolete (nornal) Vsync. At least if fps was above refresh rate instead, could simply drop extra frames or "limit" fps various ways & get good latency w/o tearing.
So limit my max framerate to 165fps?
Worth a try for sure. Ingame preferred, otherwise use Rivatuner statistics server is my go-to. Lcds & depending on software/drivers is funky. It's not like the days of a CRT at only 70-75Hz smoothly allowing as high fps as the pc can do.
Test is finished. It came back saying no errors detected
Uhh okay that's odd, should have picked up an error, what cpu and ram do you have? Also make sure to run the commands/bat file in the pins so that nothing is corrupted
I have some gameplay recorded that shows what im dealing with cause i'm having a really hard time explaining what the issue is
if anyone cares enough to look at it lol
Processor is i7-8700K
Motherboard is Asrock Z370 Pro4
Memory is TeamGroup 2x 8GB DDR4 2400 (16GB total)
No overclocking has been done
Sure upload it there
Also which bat file cos it looks like there are 2
Hmm that should be fine i can't think of why it would
Either is fine, mine just requires you to right click and run as admin, rawrs is mine but it prompts to run as admin for you
Yeah it's fine tho lol, you can search the commands if you want
My clip is too long to upload in here
Does the file keep on looping until i tell it to stop?
No
It's designed to loop one of the commands
It looks like it's running the /scanow command again
Yeah that's on purpose
Ok fair enough
Am I allowed to send you the clip you dont have to watch the whole thing Im just desperate to know what's wrong with my computer
and slightly ticked off about it at this point
If you can't upload it here you won't be able to upload to my dms, upload it to google drive and share the link for that mb?
I have no idea why you bsod'd then
Agghhhhh
Reason: Bad word usage
agh
typo -_-
I might try testmem again tommorow with everything closed down that can be seeing as it recomends you have everything shut on your PC when running the test
Tried to type shut and hit I by mistake -_-
Something else that might be worth mentioning.
When I do bluescreen, I have dual monitors. My main monitor goes blue but then my other monitor still has the programs open on it that were there. In December when it happened I'm sure that screen went blank.
Don't suppose that means anything relevant?
Also just now I decided to try again playing my game while having task manager open to see if anything spiked. The game was running longer then I had managed to stay on before and then I tried to open the internet (Firefox) and when that was loading, my pc bluescreened...🤷♂️
C drive went to 100% usage as well it looks like 🤔
Hmm what was the error?
The blue screen error?
It's still been a WHEA error.
In December and when it happened yesterday
Just thought it was odd that the second screen still showed whatever I last had open on it when my main one was blue screened
Like the stop code was whea ?
I assume that's the same thing as the blue screen.
It was WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
It shows the percentage for collecting the error as well but doesn't appear to immediately do anything. I do know if it would if I left it longer perhaps 🤷♂️
But yeah, I'm guessing it's not normal that my second monitor would still show the last thing that was open on it?
Are you aware of any program I can use to test if my GPU is ok and my CPU. If anything even exists.
I'm running testmem again at the moment. It's not got much longer left to go and found nothing again.
I'm gonna try the ol pull out a stick play the game and see what happens trick. But would be good to test my other hardware though
Your cpu was tested with your ram, i don't think your gpu can cause errors but furmark or occt on the gpu mode is a good shout
Try occt memory test too maybe just incase tm5 isnt catching it for some reason maybe?
Would it make any difference if I were to run them while my pc is in safe mode as well? That was another thought I had earlier on
Then means I have less running doesn't it and can help pick up the fault I guess.
I've never run my pc in safe mode before so idk if the program will even show up there either. Doesn't it just give me basic windows stuff
Shouldn't make a diff
Yeah only the essentials basically
anyone know why my computer does this? as i highlight over the shortcuts, they get a black background, and when i highlight an area on the screen it turns into a black box too. after i took this screenshot the entire thing is now black.
Heh ok so funny confusing thing for you here.
I tried to remove 1 stick and boot with 1 stick. On bootup it bluescreened. Didn't make it to the sign in page. Tried the other stick back in its original slot with the other one out. Bluescreen. I tried both stick again in there original spots.....bluescreen
Correct.
Slot 1 is blank
Slot 2 occupied
Slot 3 blank
Slot 4 occupied
I also as a long shot tried to unplug a HDD in there as that's new ish to see if it changed anything and when it got plugged back in, it booted. I just unplugged it again and now it's bluescreened. Same stop code. So the fault seems to be very inconsistent
Occasionally I'll get this when I boot as well
I wonder if it's the mobo 🤔
That's correct
Hmm
Could just be already corrupted windows install then?
I've unplugged everything I can unplug from the PC apart from mouse and keyboard.
Also unplugged as many of my drives as I can.
I have 1 stick in slot 2 right now and it's still bluescreening.
I think I have Ubuntu on a flash drive. If I were to run that from the stick does Ubuntu have it's own kind of bluescreening?
I removed ALL drives from my pc so now it technically has no OS in there. Plugge in the memory stick with Ubuntu on it and it says this when trying to boot after a bit
I tried it with 1 stick being in slot one and then tried again with it in slot 2 no difference
So I would guess based on that fault if it's doing that with Linux too then it's a hardware issue not software for sure, no?
Hard to say, make sure that secureboot is disabled in the bios.
If that doesnt work, I would recommend rebuilding the ISO on a windows box. Try rufus - had good luck with that. Or PenDriveLinux. Its possible the ISO didnt load correctly.
Or try a different flash drive if you have one. its possible that may be a problematic drive.
This iso was loaded on with Rufus previously.
I don't have another easily usable machine at this very moment in time.
I do have win10 on a stick and I have a spare 2tb m.2 never been used that I just out in so trying to install windows to that right now. Seems to be working.....so far
Secureboot is disabled also
Thats good. Diagnosing some of those issues without a second computer can be quite problematic sometimes. I have inherited many over my lifetime - most of them junk now, but they are good as backups in case of a situation like this and I just need to rip a USB drive real quick.
I do have a second PC but it's got Ubuntu running on it and hasn't been turned on for over 6 months so idk what state it will be in right now to try anything
Plus it's midnight and I don't wanna start playing with that one tonight. Tomorrow maybe, but not tonight
Fresh windows install "appears" to be working right now
Hi hello! So Im building my first ever PC today and Im using old drives from my old PC and my old Laptop. My drive from the laptop already has windows 10 installed and I was wondering if I could boot from there instead of installing a fresh new OS?
If you have an answer, please ping me. I don't have any notifications on except for pings
fresh install
Can you explain why?
drivers and stuff meant for other pc can cause issues with newer hardware
Makes sense. Alright thank you :))
Yeah no idea, my guess is that it could be ram but ehh not sure
There is a pc store in the town I live and I managed to go in there this morning and borrow a 16gb stick that matches the speed of the 8gb ones I currently have.
Gonna give that stick a try with my original windows install and see what happens
Good luck
Gotta wait until after work though annoying 😩
If I have an oem lisence windows 10, can I transfer the os and just reactivate it with a new key on the new mobo?
Most likely not
Ok I think I gotta it figured out maybe ....
I tried to boot my PC when I got home with the fresh windows install seeing as it worked yesterday.... bluescreeened.
I swapped out the ram for the 16gb stick I said about earlier today. Bluescreened.
I removed my graphics card and booted from mobo onboard graphics, bluescreened.
I'm gonna guess by that logic, it's the motherboard at fault here. Is there anything else I can do to test the motherboard and see if that really is the issue for certainly?
Make sure you link your Microsoft account
Uhh it could be but idk
Seems to be very inconsistent....it's booting to desktop now -_-
I'm not sure tbh sorry ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Aghh. Okie doke. No worries.
I appreciate all the help you have given regardless though. Been very helpful even if we didn't fully get to the bottom of it
If I do, is that a yes?
im not sure if this is software related or not but my downloads are super slow, anyone know why?
It should
Depends on your download speed and your drive speed
the task manager screenshot is to show that my drive isnt slowing down the download process, and network test is about 21 mbps download
if this means anything while im downloading mods in games it is also super slow so it isnt edge
im no expert
21mbps is pretty slow
mbps isnt equal to MB/s
also the server might be slow
either way its definitely internet speed limited
So I bought these two laptops from the university surplus/salvage store. They have a windows sticker underneath them, and a random guy there thought they might have a windows license like, embedded in the computer itself. In the chips or something. Is there any way this might be correct? Cause otherwise we’re gonna be using windows unactivated
Perhaps just doesn't have the usual key sticker. Gotta turn em on to find out.
Windows unactivated but sometimes they're stored on the mobo kinda somehow, it should auto activate if it is tho
It will be so cool if they are, maybe it’s like a tpm thing
But I mean, how bad can unactivated be xD
No difference apart from the watermark that I'm pretty sure you can get rid of with reg edit and having to right click images to set as background instead of in settings
Not worried about it
As long as I can use that script to unbloat it I’ll be happy
And my non techie brother would be happy with a toaster with a monitor soo
I've been just dealing with it for several weeks now, I started to look into finding my old licenses and just couldn't. I will probably disable it once I get my Windows machine back up and running.
i fell asleep in my chair with my desktop background set to the image i made and i woke up 45 minutes later and now it looks like windows 11? i lost all background images and the taskbar now looks like windows 11? i checked my system info and it didnt update in the time i slept! it still says windows 10? i am so so so lost
anyone got a clue of whats going on? i got great paid protection so it cant be a hack.
Sounds like someone is pranking you to me
Do you have siblings?
Or friends
And have you made it known that you hate win 11 before?
They are probably vaccinated. I heard Win11 upgrades were an unfortunate side effect.
What, a tpm chip?
Lol
Don't get me wrong, I think it is a perfectly reasonable trade-off. I'd rather Win11 than die.
I’d rather die
But see, I got the Pfizer, so my side effect was installing Linux instead. So who knows
Is Johnson and Johnson ios?
do you have a fix for the right click taskbar being crappy on win 11?
Death. Works every time.
What do ya mean?
Task manager from taskbar?
Only way to do that is to right click the windows icon now
this ickyness
Does 11 still have performance issues with ryzen
it used to, think its fixed now but i dont really like win 11, no feature worth upgrading for unless youre on 12th gen intel
I am getting ready to build my 12 gen intel. What is the Win 11 benefit?
it can schedule the e cores properly, if going 12400 tho or something windows 10 should actually be okay
Oh you cant change that
Unless maybe startallback
The app
Ew
12600K
Any idea why my messages sometimes sit greyed out, then turn white, or sometimes disappear instead?
Discord
Just seems random, but sometimes they sit there grey for an extended period.
Then you want winn11
That means your signal bad lol
That means they havent been sent yet
I'm hardwired.
Rural area though.
But usually no issues.
Connection type carries not much significance btw
should i upgrade to windows 11
Nah
Is it normal for 1 core to be under more load then any of the others. Core 6 seems to be over 50% but then the others are 15% or below
I ran a CPU test on OCCT
Prime95 for stress, cinebench for bench
Yea, pic clearly shows occt done but somethings are simply using part of 1 core only. 👍
Yeah i knew the test was done but youre saying that there is nothing wrong with there being a high usage on 1 core?
Correct. 50% on 1 core would be like 16% usuage spread over the whole cpu , lol (in my mind)
no one can answer that for you
alright 😂
I am, but I only "upgraded" from Win7 about a month ago. Win11 isn't much more than a re-skin, and it's pretty dang new. Good for 12gen Intel cpus that have the E-cores though.
So you'll notice that one or two of your cores will always be used more than the others. Both AMD and Intel will have a favored core(s) that will always try to take the single threaded tasks
Ok that's good to know, thank you.
My PC has been bluescreening with a WHEA error so I've just been trying to see if I can narrow it down. That seemed like a chance if it wasn't normal
Whea uncorrectable error is caused by a hardware malfunction that prevents windows critical functions and can't be automatically corrected
It is most likely CPU, but can also be ram or motherboard related (socket or power delivery fail)
Is your CPU overclocked?
NOT pato had been helping me with trying to resolve it over the space of a week ish but couldn't quite narrow it down all the way.
I ran testmem5 as recommended and this flagged no errors. I also tried different RAM sticks as I was able to borrow some and this didn't make a difference. Still bluescreened. I removed the GPU and booted from onboard graphics. Bluescreened.
I feel like it is narrowed down to mobo and CPU but just want to try be 100%. No the CPU isn't overclocked.
The fault seems to be intermittent though because now the PC doesn't seem to be doing it.
Originally I was able to be watching YouTube Netflix etc with no issue. Then I started playing a game and not long into starting (a few minutes if that) I would bluescreen.
I have 2 sticks of RAM at 8gb each. I tried to pull out one of them and boot and I bluescreened on boot which didn't happen before. I swapped the sticks over and it did it again. Then I put both in and it did it again.
After stripping the PC to the bare minimum and even using a fresh windows install that it did do it on, and then adding things back 1 at a time it now seems to not be doing it anymore....
i7-8700k
Processor is i7-8700K
Motherboard is Asrock Z370 Pro4
Memory is TeamGroup 2x 8GB DDR4 2400 (16GB total)
No overclocking has been done
The main 3 bits
It's possible your CPU has degraded to where you can't keep turbo clock on spec vcore
But that usually only happens to really old chips
I'm talking like i7 2600k and older
PC is a couple years old but it's not insanely old.
Think it built it in 2018 or something like that
2017 CPU shouldn't be have degradation problems if it hasn't been overclocked
And before 10th gen Mobo makers weren't stuffing extra vcore to get longer boost power
Ya never been overclocked before. Never bothered with it never wanted to risk the trouble tbh
I've never messed with any of the VCORE stuff before either
It started having this issue recently?
It did it before Christmas a few times. It was recommended I try remove the CMOS battery and insert again to which I did. This appeared like it fixed the issue. I then went away over Christmas so the pc wasn't used for 3 weeks. When I got back again I was just YouTube and Netflix watching. Nothing intensive and then started playing farm sim 22 and the first time I booted it about 30 seconds to joining the server I bluescreened. Booted back up and joined again and it did it again.
Following this is when I turn pulled the PC apart and did all the stuff above that I mentioned
Okay that narrows it down
Those are heavier workloads
So I think it's either the CPU degrading and can't keep up with stock vcore
Or the Mobo power delivery failing or overheating
You've confirmed CPU wasn't overheating yes?
I assume I've found that it's not because I've run testmem5 that does the CPU. I've run furmark which has a CPU burner and I've run occt as you saw when you replied to me. Nothing bluescreened when those were running
I've tried playing the game again since and haven't been able to bluescreen
So it's very intermittent
I can't actually remember now tbh.
I think it did yes
Alright
I'm pretty sure it did
I think it's a power delivery issue to your CPU, that's usually what causes whea errors
It's usually not having enough vcore to be stable
The only issue with raising vcore to see if it's cpu needing more voltage due to degradation is that if it's your motherboard CPU power delivery failing, it's just going to stress the power delivery more
Your CPU could also just be faulty but that's kind of rare for a CPU to fail without degrading first if it doesn't fail soon after installation
Could also be power supply related screwing up cpu
Did you upgrade any components like GPU since you built the machine?
Only key things that I've changed are the AIO cooler. Changed the case and added more drives over time
Other then that, all the same
AIOs pull more power but not enough for me to be worried
Rare chance it can also be a drive going out and sending bad data to CPU then getting confused when it gets what it asked for back
In practice whea from a drive going out is rare though
Have you tried using a fresh windows install on another drive? It can be temporary just to see if it blue screens
That could help us narrow down what hardware is failing
We know that it can't be Ram or GPU. Whea is caused by hardware malfunction
Yes I did.
I had a spare M.2 that I bought a while back. I removed my original M.2 with windows on it and installed new windows on the brand new drive that had never been used before and it did it.
It let me install windows but after install I did a shut down and then on start up it did it
Before I upgraded my AIO, I already had a different AIO installed as well so it's not like I've gone from an air cooler to an AIO. The machine has had one since I built it
@spice beacon I’m getting ready to install windows. Should I just use the normal way with the startup disk creator or another way? I’m doing win. 10. The reason I’m asking is because of the debloating script
Just regular windows media creation tool, then run the powershell command
Okie thanks
Np
So idk if this could be any use to you after our discussion today.
I've just been playing my game and managed to bluescreen again. On my second monitor I had gpu-z and task manager running to see if there was anything specific that happened.
11.9v isn't great but the 11.7 on the 8pin is what really stands out to me. For reference, all mine are at least 12v, & often closer to 12.1
Sure seems mostly like a power or psu issue. Which psu? drives use 3v or 5v, not 12v so at least those probably are not a factor
As an extra thing, i do use these cable extensions for my mobo. They have been in for a little while though. Like way before the bluescreening started but figured it was worth a mention. But at the same time, im sur i tested the PC without these in there and it still did it but cant fully remember now
http://www.phanteks.com/Extension-Cables.html
PSU is .... good question
That might actually be your culprit
It seems your CPU isn't getting the power it wants, which may be bad power delivery to the Mobo itself
Is there an extension on the 8pin gpu cable?
Evolabs Cronus modular 80 plus bronze 750W is the PSU
Yes there is an extension on the 8-pin
1st thing to try is no extension for the gpu. Bet that alone might help the 11.7v issue, & possibly eliminate the recent crashes
It's not the GPU chillen
For the GPU? Do you mean CPU. I thought 8-pin was the little one on the motherboard
We've gone to just integrated graphics
Ah you have a CPU extension?
Definitely should try without the CPU extension
May have to completely un plug everything and run your PSU outside of your case to test if cables don't reach
Extension on the 24-pin, 8-pin and whatever the GPU is
All 3 of those cables. The 2 into the mobo and the 1 into the GPU
This is the gpu cable, even if it's actually a 6pin. Idk, all I can think of. Cpu was under light load in the pic
Lemme try it without the extensions and I'll get back to you
I know that I don't like seeing any voltage below 12, lol.
Hi. I am absolutely unable to get into bios so I can enable tpm. After hitting ueifi restart, my pc just restarts. And it restarts slower than usual too. It just takes me back to the user sign-in screen. No bios. Any idea?
So I've plugged in the stock cables with no extensions in.
These are the current readings while my PC is actually on and not bluescreened
The thing I find funny is that the game I'm playing is on the F drive but that has no usage 🤔
Like idk if that's a standard thing at all. Not saying that's part of the issue. Just seemed weird
Ssd is fast & many games don't access a drive all that much while playing. Notice you have 12.1 & 11.9v for the gpu now. Idk if it's the fix but that's a lot better than 11.7v before. Cpu load was light so to test that instead you can do cinebench even if it's not a pure stresstest like prime95 or occt.
That's kinda maddening if it is the extensions. Now my PC be looking a little ugly again
well it might've been the cpu extension also, but I'm thinking just the gpu extension was the main issue and there various choices if you really wanted to keep using extensions. They shouldn't drop voltage this much usually.
8 pin is reading 12V or more now
Do I wanna run a test for CPU multi core or single core?
multi core
Never used cinebench before
It's 1 of the simplest programs to use, all we hit is the start button
. Single core of course takes almost 4 times as long but is more for showing how different generations compare.
So it seems
Ok so the test is running and the 8 pin is going down to 11.9 sometimes but typically sticking at 12+
well the 8pin spot on gpuz is gpu. we'd look at hwinfo64 for cpu cable voltage perhaps (I forget what it would be listed as). Here's my gpuz pic for reference. 12.2 might be on the "high" side, but I never see below 12.00v. 11.9 as minimum is definitely fine in my opinion.
I can download that as well I suppose. I already got a whole family of software going at the moment
Which one?
local us probably. It's just where (how fast) it DL's.
I've got a stop watch going on the single core cinebench test haha
IDK if this shows what you want. It's just what came up on launch
wow, nice drive collection. ok, right click the tray icon and hit sensors if it's not already up somewhere
That's not even all the drives thats the sad part 😂 I unplugged them all during testing and didnt plug them all back in yet
The tray icon?
Ok yeah got that....it's alotta stuff
Closing thing I'm finding for me is. Probably should've had hwinfo in the background when running cinebench, but oh well. idle voltage says a lot also
Where is that under. The motherboard bit?
yep, or just scan around and try to find "+12V" somewhere.
12.48 max seems on the high side, but at least it's not below 12v. would be neat to use the cpu extension and recheck. especially w/ cinebench or a similar load running. So far I'm thinking the gpu extension was the main issue.
Ok i can shut down the PC and plug in the 8-pin on the motherboard and see what happens
If nothing then i will unplug that and then plug in the GPU one and see what happens
Yeah let's hit this button and rerun cinebench w/ hwinfo running. This button resets the sensor info.
Oh re run now before i try the extensions again?
sure, then just cpu extension 1st. Also I found the single core test takes 15+ minutes for me haha.
Yikes
Uhhh idk if I can ask for help here
sure, or certain other threads if they're more applicable. Might have to wait for smarter people also.
So...I'm trying to turn on Secure Boot
And TPM 2.0
But it's not working
It keeps mentioning the UEFI Graphics GOP
Sorry, me = not big 🧠 about that stuff. TPM 2.0 can be wonky. Also I've heard secure boot is often unhelpful and/or unneeded.
Valorant won't run without it
Just have the Anticheat in the game not having to connect to the Computer ffs.
Configured it. I flashed the CMOS.
Those all look pretty fine. cpu extension time I'd say (then run cinebench), then later add gpu extension and do 3dmark or a couple games.
Oh 3d mark. There's another one I don't have to add to the family
I think my mobo 12v sensor or frozen or something. Last time I crashed was just messing around w/ ram OC and maxing out the cpu turbo at below stock Vcore, so no biggie.
Oh dear
Oh what'd you get on cinebench vs the 7700K that says 6302?
7845 I think.
That looks like the one from when I ran it last
That's a good increase. update on using the cpu extension?
Indeed. perhaps run 3dmark or a game quick because they use some gpu w/ cpu, before checking w/ gpu extension also. Here's the voltages for gpu in hwinfo btw
oh you can get the demo on steam if you felt like it, or a certain in-game benchmark would be better than just playing certain games.
The only gamei have installed right now is farming sim 22 😂
My game drive died recently and havent got a new one yet
Oof, haha. Which psu btw? I'm feeling it's either not fantastic, and/or we just need better extensions (might have to not use the gpu extension).
this one
You asked earlier 😛
I dont this this PSU itself is probably that great when i look at it now. I didnt really know what i was choosing when i built the machine 🤔
Damn my internet slow
taking so long to installl
Is that PSU as bad as i think it might be?
well it's not on any tier lists I know of, but for now perhaps ok w/ that 1060. I'd say definitely dodge the gpu extension also. New psu is probably a good idea in the future before GPU upgrade and such though. Pato is one around here who is great at hunting down good components. Phanteks Amp or Bitfenix for $60ish a just a couple I currently think of.
Why dodge the extension? Don't want me to do the test then to see what the volt shows?
we saw the volts earlier I think, but you could try it to confirm.
I guess for my own peace of mind ill do it
Ok 3d mark installed. Time to add the GPU cable back
3dmark generally does 100% gpu usage for much of the test(s), so we'll confirm soon enough that at least the extension isn't kosher.
Test is still running but yeahhhh
I'm surprised this test isn't making me bluescreen
Soooo it be looking like the cable then
Yep, I'd say so when the min on gpu 8pin for instance is 11.75ish instead of at least 11.9 w/ only stock cable. Also I wouldn't oc the cpu much if at all because I learned that the "12v" spot under Motherboard should be pretty stable actually. That's why mine seems frozen at 12.24 w/e it was lol.
Didn't plan to overclock so it's all good 😂
I removed the GPU extension again and plugged in stock and it's at this now soooo.
I know we saw it before but I just wanted to check for sure on it 🤷♂️
Oh wait
No
It's under again
oh make sure to hit that sensor reset button to make sure.
Yeah ima start the test again cos I don't remember if I did
I definitely reset it this time and this is the numbers while 3d mark is running
11.6 now
That's a snazzy curve ball then
Maybe I'll try swapping out the actual stock cable incase that's an issue?
oof, yeah not a fan of all the 11.7ish stuff. You could, but unfortunately I doubt it's just the stock one and more likely almost psu-hunting time. Good news is Pato among others here a great at finding or knowing european deals.
I need me a UK deal 😝
quoted screenshot above could also be posted in the cases and psu thread. Sorry, UK/europe both foreign to me.
Final result from the test
Those silly foreign people over there 😝
Welp fair enough then.
What will be beneficial about pairing that screenshot then?
Showing people another reason you might need a good psu besides just saying "help me pick a new psu", lol. Also here's the columns I use for hwinfo. Doesnt matter , but it's funny how much we can change in this app. Hmm, actually average might be useful sometimes.
I kinda wanna try and make my PC bluescreen running on stock cables 🤔. But this is where I find it won't do it now or something because it's so intermittent.
Like why didn't I bluescreen while running those tests?
hmm, could try both cables and run 3dmark 3+ times in a row. 1060 being low wattage is "helping" not bsod as much I bet, lol. Your recent max was 117W and my 1080 would be 160W even undervolted.
(250w peak when oc'd)
Looks like they are already that at default on mine plus the average
I'm running my PC on fully stock cables now.
Think it would make a difference if I plugged the cable into a different port on the PSU or not really?
Doubtful, but actually possible. The overall performance/quality of that psu is an unknown w/o an actual review.
😂great. Trust me to have that one thing that's just got nothing about it anywhere
ikr, I mean 4 reviews on amazon-UK
oh well, just don't upgrade anything before psu i guess.
I moved the cable to the other port on the PSU just to see if it's any different. I guess if I'm gonna test I might as well be sure
Yup other port is showing the same issue. Below 12v
My one last test even though it's futile. Trying a different cable in there as well
Sooo swapping the cable for another one I haven't used before gives a min of 20v.
For some reason 3D mark keeps telling me I cancelled the test at the end of the first segment when I didn't so haven't been able to do a full one yet
Now that's a much b etter range. If the min on any of those stays above 11.9 at least then I'm more content.
creepy gif, lol.
Still probably worth me replacing the PSU anyway I guess. I would like to upgrade the GPU eventually.....when the world isn't so mashed up
Thank you for all of the help you've given me to find the issue. Very much appreciated
Gonna get that cable goneeeee now
Would it still be worth me using that screenshot you said abot before that shows the voltage of not worth it now seeing as it's found to be the cable?
I'd show people a before and after. Also, what does the "12v" under mobo spot say now? current/min/max/average shouldn't be a huge variation.
Current 12.288v
Min 12.096v
Max 12.480v
Average 12.284v
The spikes alone would look bad but the average/current seem ok for now. Others might say otherwise and just start psu searching now 😅
You thinking it's on its way out then from the numbers you've seen?
No idea, could've had numbers like this for most of it's life. One of the techie/mods could give a better definite answer for sure.
I just did BenchMate w/ an older cinebench version and finally got my min 12v reading to not be exactly 12.24
idk, my psu is a evga G3 & known to be a pretty good one. the lone 12v sensor under the mobo section is supposed to be pretty steady I've been told.
Yo, why is Ubuntu getting left out? Lol
What?
Left out of what? 🤔
randomly got this memory management
haven't had a bluescreen for 2 years
anyone know what I could do to stress test all my memory?
i've updated my gpu driver to the newest one
Test mem5 extreme anta profile
Anyone that uses windows 11?

meeeeeeeeeee
Is it good for gaming?
dunno i like the ui lol
its better on some games and not for others
i didnt test between versions tho
so eh
Oh ok thanks
need advice/suggestions. currently have a 1TB nvme ssd with windows legacy installed on it. i want to switch to windows UEFI. really dont want to redownload/install everything, so is it possible to install windows 10 UEFI on a new NVME (maybe 256gb) and then uninstall windows on the current 1TB without losing all of my stuff i have on it?
or am i just better off backing up what i want/need and then wiping the drive and starting fresh?
Why do you want to switch to uefi? There's not many reasons for an average user.
The best way is going to be backing up and reinstalling. You'll have to reinstall either way.
Alternatively, you can install windows in uefi mode on the new drive and use the old 1tb drive for data storage. You can just delete the windows folder on the old drive. You'd still be reinstalling this way too, though.
i'd like to upgrade to windows 11 but having my current windows 10 as legacy is currently preventing me from doing that
Upgrade installs are bad. You'll likely lose performance. Just install 11 fresh with your linked Microsoft account and you won't even need to activate.
You'll also need to enable tpm and secure boot mode in bios, and probably disable csm
and that alternative way you suggested of installing on a new drive and deleting windows from the original drive is the way i'd like to go but i just wasn't sure how it all works. will the computer just automatically recognize it as just a storage drive?
gone through that stuff already. last thing i need to do is the legacy vs uefi
Yeah, once you install and boot on the new drive the old one will just be there ready to use. You can tell the new os to use your old library folders and it should redirect most things to the old drive.
despite changing all the settings in the bios, the computer doesnt recognize the secure boot because i'm currently running windows in legacy mode.
i also like the idea of having a dedicated ssd for just windows and the other ssd for storage
Yeah, you'll need to disable the csm mode so it's in uefi only mode before you go to install the new os.
This will make the old os unable to boot until you enable csm again
ok, thanks for your input
So me and my friend are useing my computer like a console but its only letting us use 1 user at a time
Im thinking its a windows thing were u can only use one account at a time?
How whould i fix this?
VM with driver passthrough, which works best with amd gpu but can be done on nvidia
We both can play but only roblox since i have 2 versions of it on my account
Ok
Wait no its already working as 2
But we can only use my computer log in
Yeah, the VM acts like a different computer running on the same system
Once one of us logs in all other accounts on my computer are locked
So we can both use it but we are both on my account and so only one of us can use a app at a time
Im already useing aster to split it
But windows wont let us use diferent accounts
And if i am useing crome he cant and if im in Minecraft and he oppens it we both get closed out
Well with games like minecraft that require paid accounts, it'll only let you run one instance
Since the account lock happens at the log in screen im asuming its Windows
Steam has a workaround with family profiles
No like he has one and when he logged in it logged me out
Because it wont let us use diferent computer user accounts
And a virtual machine should stop that, because it's like having multiple computers in one
Yes but it wont let the second computer sign into the a different user than the first computer
One host computer can run a number of guest computers equal to the number of processor cores minus one at the same time
Think of it like it's 2 different computers, each with their own users
But since it only lets us use one account at a time it wont let us use the exact same apps at the same time
Ok look
It only lets us use one user account at a time even tho they are separated
Exactly
Because that's only one computer
Aster works similar to a VM but not quite the same
A vm is a totally separate computer inside of another computer
It can still be windows
Does windows have a thing were regular cant have multiple accounts used at once on one key?
Windows technically doesn't need to have a key at all. You just might get a watermark on your screen.
How do i get the second one on a different user?
You simply install windows on the virtual machine like you would normally on a new computer
No idea how to do that
How do I get windows to stop asking for my admin password when my son tries to use a game launcher on his account?
It takes me straight to win10 on second
You can either upgrade his account to admin or disable the security warnings
I don’t want to upgrade his account, I was hoping there was a way to specify which programs required authorization.
Not any way that I'm aware of
If the launcher requires permissions but the game doesn't you could bypass the launcher and load the game directly
Then you only need to load the launcher once a week or so
Hey Fal, is there a quick/simple way to not need my "pin" when booting and/or coming out of hiber/sleep? Win10 pro. Any similar ideas welcome. go straight to desktop. Not sure where to disable the pin
Thx Fal’Cie. His mother knows my password so she’ll just have to do it for him when I’m not home.
is there a way to upgrade windows so it would let us use difrent accounts?
There's 2 ways actually. Netplwiz and group policy editor.
Gpedit is easier since you're on pro. Win+R, gpedit.msc, navigate to computer configuration >administrative templates >system >logon, double click "don't display the getting started welcome screen at logon", click enabled, ok, and close it all out.
Only server allows that. Virtual machines are the workaround for this basic windows limitation.
how do i get it to let me into splash on second workspace?
You'd load up your VM program, virtualbox for example, and tell it to start the OS. It then loads the OS like it's a different computer.
Once it loads, the login screen comes up.
im in aster tho
Fal. Awesome, thnx. I'll try that later after my monthly pc dusting
This is screenshot from my computer running a virtual machine installing windows while windows is running on the host. Yes I have 2 monitors, it makes these things so much easier.
can someone help me with my pc
