That's not what it is: the Windows installer asks the BIOS for things to autoinstall, ostensibly drivers, and then installs them. Bloatware is bundled this way.

Maybe, if Windows installed the associated programs and not just the driver. All the driver does is let the system use the hardware.

That would be an extremely rare situation though. Most of the time Windows installs the generic drivers from MS servers.

The bloatware is definitely in the BIOS (or was). It makes use of an OS feature to install it, but without the configuration resident in the BIOS it wouldn't happen.

I’m not sure if anyone has suggested this, but over time, PCs get very dusty. The amount of dust can vary on multiple factors. Dust can make your GPU warmer than usual. You should get some compressed air and clean it if you can. It may reduce your temps down a bit.

Most reviewers are using 3600c16 or 3200c14 kits of DDR4, which are fine for budget options. I mean going straight to 4400 16-16-16. A kit like that would crush any current DDR5.

Compatibility? I doubt that'll be an issue. The IMC on 12th gen is better than the one on 11th gen, and that one could handle it in gear 2, sometimes even with 1T command rate.

I bricked my windows install by changing my motherboard
My activated copy of windows 10 home somehow became an unactivated copy of windows 10 pro education
I couldn't fix it. I'm not sure why, but I think it was because even after I deleted the OS off my primary, it still had the recovery and efi partition on it.
I could get windows 10 home installed in both my secondary drives, but not the primary. Also, every time I tried to activate it on the secondaries, it told me it "couldn't connect to my business server" because the "business server" in question doesn't exist
So eventually I ended up formatting the primary again in bios, which I think got rid of the EFI and recovery
But now what happened is that apparently the windows install USB I used to put windows on both my secondaries was somehow formatted? I guess? Idk. I can't boot to it, and I can't boot to anything else either

Well, last night I found out that at least under my specific circumstances, the windows installer "format" option doesn't remove those partitions. No matter what I did there were still traces of the old OS somewhere keeping me from updating or reverting to a version other than win10proed

I think it's a security protocol, but what matters is that most last gen platforms aren't compatible with it. So unless you're on like alder lake or Ryzen 5000 I don't think you can run windows 11 outside of a VM.

Hey, is this a good place to ask for ideas on customizing my multi-monitor wallpaper setup?

I want slideshows, but I I'm getting sick of the ultrawide's backgrounds showing up on the other monitors.

So apparently my Windows PC sometimes keeps closing apps and forcing videos out of fullscreen for no reason by itself.

No idea why it does this. Could it possibly be doing this to save resources, or is it for another reason?

Windows typically won’t just do stuff like that to save resources. Something is triggering it normally. I would recommend looking in the event log to start off with next time it happens within the application log. See if that helps shed light. My first guess would be a driver maybe. Might want to try updating your graphics driver.

I recommend using robocopy. Event viewer may have logs.
Robocopy is a command line based utility that will bypass the character limit. any files that are hitting that limit, i recommend moving to like c:\temp and see if you can move it into place from there.

a google search should be able to find that. immediate guess is that something turned off the weather display and it will show for a few seconds before hiding again when updated.

Apparently microsoft is blocked for links. If you google Windows 10 Versions end of life, there is a microsoft website with a table, the version number and the dates that it starts and is retired.
the summary of this table is that it will no longer receive regular updates. Typically these versions will receive major security patches and 0 day patches but that can be hit or miss. 1507 is one of the very older ones - i think first iteration of main stream - I would recommend moving up to at least 1909. If you have a windows 10 licensed copy, it will support the install to the newest versions.

If it is the utility I am thinking of, yes. I am not sure if an old download will grab a new version or not but you can download the latest off the microsoft store fairly easily. The one you download should grab the latest mainstream release which in this case should be 21H2 to my knowledge.

FPS is typically based off the way it is recorded. I am not a video editor by any means but i am not aware of any way to do this. What you are trying to do is some kind of upscaling almost.
Editing frame by frame. Free? You can try VSDC or Lightworks. I have used both of them and can confirm they are legitimate software. If they have the tools you need, I am not sure.
Paid or possibly free trial, Adobe Premier Pro or After Effects will be some of the bigger and more well known ones. I imagine they have a free trial of some kind or they should have a student discount. They are a monthly subscription these days so if you only need it for a few weeks, you might get away with paying just one month. Just make sure they dont lock you in a contract.

Good luck! I have used VSDC alot, its pretty heavy but the free version has a good amount of features. Not sure if what you need will be one of them but I can give it a good recommendation for freeware.

The goal is to "hide" the area (unallocated) containing bad blocks
while using the rest like 1 partition

Assuming HDD? The best way I know of is to delete one of the partitions, but there's no way to move physical bad blocks.
Bad Blocks should be unallocated from the drive's firmware and reallocated using spare blocks. If the drive has run out of spare blocks or isn't unallocating the blocks properly, you really need a new drive asap while you can still read your data to transfer it.

I tried remapping bad blocks with some tools, which they reported successful but it was taking too long + too many bad blocks in that area,
so I thought best to just unallocate the affected range (180-185GB)

It's a 2.5" external TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 1TB

After the remapping, reallocated sector count went from 0 to 24

A full surface scan on L came back 0 incident
I'll do E next,
if that's also clear, could I assume it's fine to continue using the drive ?

Reallocated sectors are still able to be used, they were properly reassigned locations in the firmware and the disk knows to skip those sectors now.
It's still a good idea to replace the drive, any number above 0 Reallocated sectors means potential failure. It could be next week or next year, but it will happen, usually sooner than later.

Also very concerning are the udma crc errors, those often point to a bad controller or other hardware

It's also reporting 8 pending sectors, which it will reallocate soon as it's told to. Smaller drives don't have that many available backup sectors, 32 might be your limit

it should be reallocated by the drive's reserved good blocks
And once those run out, drive's health is a fast downward spiral from there

Unallocating (or not) bad blocks would only be helpful if the drive hasn't run out of reserved blocks

Alright, trying to install win 10 on this new ssd is starting to piss me off. Endless Windows setup loop. Sometimes it says cannot install to disk because it's gpt format. Using a disc for XP or usb for Win 7 was never this. Uefi/legacy stuff is a headache. I did eufi boot only, did uefi/legacy. What, gotta convert it to mbr or w/e somehow? Bout to not even bother until I have newer mobo/cpu.

This "new" 2 yr old MX500 has pretty decent speeds I'd say, especially VS a hdd. I should've at least put my Win 7 setup onto an ssd long ago 😅 . Win 10 drivers are cool, stuff moves around well and I didnt even install GPU drivers yet (task manager sees it correctly too). Gonna go ahead and try to activate w/ my main win7 key. --Edit, activated nicely. I got a weird issue with my windows that's running on virtualox.
For some reason, when i go to the start menu or file explorer i am unable to type anything in the boxes. I can still type perfectly fine the web browser a notepad doc etc but file explorer just isnt working. I did a bit of googling around and found some guides saying to restart the search in task manager and all that but none of these things seems to work for me.
Is anyone familiar with this issue that might be able to help me out?

What are the best practices here when upgrading? Do I need to reinstall windows? Also, whats the best way to back up my boot drive just in case

Least issues would be fresh install to a (new) SSD. It's pretty quick. Could then take time copying stuff back to "C". Even better is a 3rd drive, copy all wanted stuff to it then format the old C drive, if that makes sense. ---Currently I have old Win 7 OS, data/game HDD, and "new" ssd got Win10 on it 2 weeks ago.

Gonna research a bit myself, I never changed mobo+cpu w/o reinstalling, but it's gotta be possible w/o much issue. Perhaps boot in safemode for driver unstall. Edit: Win key might be only tied to Microsoft account, that'd be a good thing. Used to need to reactive w/ a new mobo.

Right click the start menu button, hit system, then advanced system settings on the right, startup and recovery settings, then under write debugging information select kernel memory dump (it's probably on auto or none)

You can also set it so it doesn't automatically restart on a blue screen error if it's still not working, so you can see the error code

Uncheck the box that says automatically restart

This should make it write the error dump file that you're not getting

A kernel dump is usually enough but a full dump can be useful for very complex problems

firstly I would disable all enhancements in windows sound control panel, make sure you have nothing running that is meant to alter the sound in any way. if you have any other devices for sound other than the built in port try that

windows launches into a black screen after logging in, i can access task manager and launch apps from there, windows goes to normal after using an app for a long time

rarely file explorers crashes after opening downloads folder

a ghost windows of some sort appears, its a transparent window, only the borders are visible, and if it covers an app i cant use that area of the app untill i restart

apps from start button or search dont launch, i usually click find file location and launch it from there

other : windows explorer looks weird ( like a web browser or smthn) and doesnt display any files, this happened only once which is now and its after the black screen appeared rendering my pc unusable

It's basically the way the drive holds the information of what partitions are on the drive. Older mbr format only allows 4 partitions per drive (with workarounds) but gpt allows much more and tends to work better with uefi as a result

A standard uefi install takes at least 3 partitions, efi, boot, and data

You could do a repair install of it separately and it should skip over that step in the installer

They're pretty common because every program tries to install its own version of the vcredist package, so you end up with 10 different installs of the same package, but different versions.
