I really need a reset switch now damn
$5 on amazon for a 2 pack, lol
Clear cmos switch?
Yeah
I have it
I just don’t want to take my gpu out to install it
I just put the case reset button to the clear cmos jumpers
I just have to slide it on the cmos pins
But the cmos pins are covered
I know what I’m doing rawr lol
The case reset button is useless anyway tbh
I don’t have a case reset btw
I have a literal button
I just need to take my@gpu out
Maybe when I move
I might clear my loop and take out gpu whole transporting
So then I might add it
Did you hard line?
No

…what on the hell is that on the left
I did the mod on the left with a much larger iron, lead free solder, no magnification 3 years ago.
That makes a lot more sense

https://i.imgur.com/78utmxc.png
Nice you got the 1st place spot
Nice cup
I wish there was more ycruncher competition, it only got global points a year ago, but so few people run it
I posted that score in a few other discords hoping it'll encourage some 3970x folks to run it
Wonder if benchmate becoming more popular and with more benches will help with getting more competition in all of the benches
The sub is with pbo, but easy to beat the score on safe daily volts with fixed core https://i.imgur.com/ycKvOyV.png
Good ram though
gnasher ran 4533, I just couldn't get that stable with any timings, I only really have two good 8GB b-die sticks
I assume tr runs crap on dual channel?
No, 2 ranks/channel is better, but I wanted to beat the score on 4x8
Was trying to do it at 4.0 core, but gave up
For now
Fair
What is that screenshot lol https://hwbot.org/submission/4852070_ @modern walrus
nvm, it's not your top sub, just saw it in the submission history, assumed it was because it's the most recent
I was trying to find a program on benchmate that when I went to go do the submission for 3d mark (port royal) it would fill in all the hardware info for me
Just click "use previous submission hardware"
well the other thing is I'm using just PBO not 4.7 all core on 5900x
& I didn't wanna annoy you (obviously that failed) by putting the wrong crap
the three options are use XTU, prepopulate fields by previous submission, or manual
I hit the 2d one
If pbo autofills the clock speed, it's not a big deal to just leave it
oh damn okay I'm overthinking like usual
I do need to fill out memory disk & PSU tho right?
Some benches, you can't use the "previous sub" option, e.g. x265
No, and remember, you can just look at recent subs from the top 10 folks
I hope once I get this one done that all subsequent 3dmark submissions will just be on these specs
for 3d mark don't you have to do the manual submission?
Maybe there's a way to sub from the 3dmark page?
by which I mean this
oh is there? let me go look on there
You can submit directly online from 3dmark.com, but only for TimeSpy, not port royal. I'm going to submit a timespy & see if I can transfer that info over to port royal

is nvidia performance tunning safe?
An automatic overclock thingy? Honestly better to do it yourself, they don't stress test it very hard usually so it could be an unstable oc
Nothing you can't do in msi afterburner in 1 minute
Nvidia also tends to be very conservative on the memory overclock
It gave me +200 when I tested it, I can game on +1200 lol
that atleast means its safe
Not necessarily
overclocking my gpu, where do i start
Msi afterburner
pretty simple from there?
Slide the power limit all the way, start with +100 core +600 mem, then +15 incremets on core
Until crash
Then go back 15
uhhh
so are there any presets already for certain gpus?
and any downsides for overclocking other than killing the parts longevity
No

It won't kill your parts, heat
i got a good amount of fans and good case for ig good air flow, but my room tends to get hot cause its kinda small and i have a big setup
I legit just told you what to do, you can't have a preset for an overclock because it's different for every card
See if it's hotter than you care for increasing gpu fan alone should do lol
cause i got a total of 12 fans if you include my gpu fans
is there a guide for ram oc subtimings

OH thanks
If all of a certain gpu could have a preset, the manufacturer would make said gpu just have a higher boost clock... Some gpus won't even be able to go any higher.
This case includes 12 case fans stock, but the case is like a black hole for airflow. We're reviewing the Abkoncore Ramesses 780, which is one of the worst-designed cases we've reviewed.

needed that
i have a total of 18 fans
12 of them are not in my pc at the moment
I was about to paste that exact video lol
wish they did 5900x also. oh well
wish I could get 4.7ghz at 1.26v. He's using vcore as the measurement. Is that the same as SVI2?
i got 4.625ghz@1.25v on my 5800x
silicon lottery hates me
I had to set to 1.296 to get 4.7 on all core on 5900x
Why manually OC zen 3
Run pbo with offsets
Wouldnt advise
i get 4.3ghz
you think silicon lottery hates you?
i would need above 1.4v to run what you get at 1.25v
sooo 1.45v for benchmarks cool right?
wait what
but you still got really lucky with your 11800h
wait so you're telling me that if i repaste the cpu and add cooling pads and stuff then OC it i can get similar results???
14775 in r23
bruh
I know somebody who degraded N7 ryzen with benchmarks at 1.45V
I wouldn't run that high on anything more than a 5600X unless you have sub-ambient cooling
The big issues with the tests he did are
- Sample size (3 chips are not enough)
- Only the single CCD chips. The multi-CCD chips will naturally run hotter under an equivalent per-core load because of greater heat load
- He did not max out the frequency at the voltage, and so the resulting temperatures were likely far too conservative (~75C from what I remember. I wouldn't consider it "safe" testing below 85C)
- Cinebench for "stability" testing. Cinebench stable can be very, very different from truly stable.
All core benchmarks. PBO is great for single core but trash at boosting all cores.
I would have loved it if he ran them closer to their limits (as you would if you were pushing 1.45V), at a higher temperature, and used a more thorough stability test.
I still appreciate the effort, since it's not trivial to do the tests he did, but a little more effort would have gone a long way in that IMO.
Still, at least we know 1.45V is certainly not catastrophic
(further reinforcement that the PBO algorithm can be considered quite safe)
I was talking for running daily
^^^^^
Ive heard of chips running cinebench passing and the whole pc crashing from opening task manager
Well hey i had my 3070 oc stable for timespy but crashed in overwatch where I'm heavily cpu bound lol
not repaste, he used liquid metal and added viscous paste for the vrms and such
and 4.3ghz isn't oc
it's stock
No matter what I did I couldn't get 4600mhz/core to hold longer than 5-10 seconds into render on R23 with PBO, even bumping 185amps on tdc & edc. Scalar started looking tempting
It pokes holes in, but I don't think discredits entirely, the idea that voltage over 1.25 under load is too high
Well there's lots of factors, isn't it? It may be safe for a 5600X at only 4.5 GHz running less than 75C, but what about a 5950X at 4.8 GHz at 90C? What if your LLC settings are too high?
Or... maybe one chip can handle it just fine for years, while another will degrade in a few days
Absolutely
there's a lot of variables, and the advice given for "1.25V" is the "safe" advice that likely accounts for worst case scenarios for a lot of the factors.
EG cooling, LLC, workload
Lol I didn't really think 1.25v was the ceiling since PBO will run 1.3v+
Under load
Which was probably dumb on my part
depends on the load...
PBO will run 1.3V on a 5900X or 5950X just fine for something like R23
but if I load up prime95, it will drop to 1.2V or less
I also heard you're not supposed to undervolt
Which I ignored & put a -. 0625v offset
Which is the only way I could get slightly over 4600mhz on R23
Granted for a brief time.
Ya p95 won't pass 1.25
I think it'll usually sit at like 1.14v if I remember correctly
Which is another thing I wonder about those tests. Did they force constant voltage under p95? If they forced it at 1.45, they were probably getting like 3400mhz/core lol
Reduced voltage can mean less heat, which lets the algorithm boost higher. As long as it's still stable a negative offset can be helpful.
I think the 1.45 was just vcore, it would droop lower. But yeah if it was pbo and not manual the heat would reduce the boost clocks. You don't set manual voltage without setting manual clocks, though. That's bad practice.
Can you can do that just to get a baseline?
I the way I saw it by having offset in addition to curve optimizer meant I was able to set the cores that could handle it even further than -30 magnitude
It's frustrating that curve optimizer is only as strong as its weakest core tho. Like frequency on all-core will drop cuz of one core
I wish it was at least divided by CCDs
Your board must be weird because I can do a per core CO and I get way better frequencies
this is overclocking huh
It is
https://www.twitch.tv/antitux Alder Lake on ln2
he did 4600mhz
dont bother i found out she tried running a 5800x at 5.3ghz without setting a voltage
left it on auto
ah
for real? which board??
MSI X470 Gaming Plus
hmm I wonder if B550 has that & I just never noticed before
there's so many damn redundant settings that wading thru it all isn't easy
but since you have MSI let me ask you something else
It's just a toggle on my CO menu, per CCX or per core mode
is VCC Sense or Socket Sense a more accurate measure of voltage? (this is MSI Gaming Carbon Wifi Z490 w/ 10700KF btw)
I'm not as familiar with Intel overclocks
no VRVOUT unfortunately
ah okay
I'll check that out once I get my 5900x rebuilt
I already rebuilt GPU & CPU blocks
In fact I've never owned an Intel computer except my server in about... 14 years
gotta finish washing out the pipes & flush tf out of the rads
haha damn dedication right there
Back in the day I had a Win98 that had a 300MHz Intel chip
You're in USA but you work overnights or something right?
I remember having Intel Pentium something
on my like Compaq Presario or whatever
I'm in US but my schedule is weird. I work when I'm needed on site and most of it is remote. My boss doesn't care what I do as long as the servers keep running.
that's a pretty sweet gig
how far are the servers from where you live?
or do you go hang out in server room until next shift or something?
Yeah, and since I'm technically the manager (of a department with 4 people in it) I can delegate most of the tech support calls lol
It's about 20 minutes from emergency call to onsite
I actually had like this how to be a manager seminar thing at this awful job I had
& about the only thing I really learned at it is the best managers know how to delegate properly
which initially seemed like counterintuitive because you think like oh you become manager because you're really good at the job immediately below manager
Yeah, that's really all that most managers are good for is telling people what they should be doing
but turns out that's not really why
do I remember you saying you degraded your CPU?
no desire to replace it?
I used to run 3800 14-15-13 at 1.54v but now I can't hit that without WHEAs no matter what voltage I do
Nah I'm not worried about it, I can do 3600 14-13-13
damn overclocking Intel without VRVOUT sucks. Like my Aorus Z590 has VRVOUT & I know the CPU is getting 1.305v under load. Meanwhile vCore shows like 1.415 or something insane
tbh I forget what's generally accepted as "safe" voltage for 10th gen intel. Gotta do my homework again
is 14nm the spacing between or the size?
It's supposedly the gate width but in reality it's a meaningless measurement that isn't standardized. Intel 7nm is about the same as AMD 5nm for example.
AMD measures the gap, Intel includes more in the measurement
20 years from now they'll be like 7 altometers apart
We're getting pretty close to needing to measure in angstroms
I've never even heard of that SI unit
Apple is down to what, 3nm?
damn are they?
The angstrom (, ; ANG-strəm, ANG-strum) or ångström is a metric unit of length equal to 10−10 m; that is, one ten-billionth of a metre, 0.1 nanometre, or 100 picometres. Its symbol is Å, a letter of the Swedish alphabet.
The ångström is not a part of the SI system of units, but it can be considered part of the metric system in general. Although ...
how the hell do you even build that
I used to remember most of the metric unites
T G M K H D | D C M M N P F A
So 10Å = 1nm
Tera, Giga, Mega, Hecto, Deca, [base], Deci, Centi, Mili, Micro, Nano, then I forget the next two then alto I think
like pento & femto or something I dunno I'll google it
D 10^-1, C 10^-2, M 10^-3, m 10^-6, n 10^-9, p 10^-12, f 10^-15, a 10^-18
so alto has like 18 zeros or something
or 17 zeros then the number? Chem was a long time ago
1am = .000000000000000001m ?
I stopped caring when I passed the last math class I ever needed to take, AP stats in high school
AP credit counted to college, never had to touch it again (except binary and hex conversion occasionally)
See, that's why I took stats. I would rather do one class and be done than take two.
I had AP US history, AP US gov't, AP Environmental Science, & AP Chem
My laziness won out
Idek what my scores were, that was over a decade ago.
So you're a few years older than me at least.
I'll be 34 on 12/2
Just guessing I think I got a 3 on stats and 2 on history... never my best subject, too much memorizing
Or I could be wrong and it was a 4 - 1 🤷♂️
I was so mad I got a 3 on US history
but my school had a rule where they didn't want you taking AP US history unless you also took AP English
& AP English was an "A period" class
which meant you got to come to school an hour before everyone else & have one extra class
& after doing that with honors biology, I was not trying to do it again
so I had to take regular US history first quarter
I got 100% on every test
God English was so boring for me. I actually failed it for lack of interest. I never did the homework but aced every test, so one year I got the one teacher that weights the grades more to the homework than tests like a freak.
I'm like can you put me in AP now?
so they did but unfortunately the standard class was up to the revolutionary war by the end of the first quarter & AP was up to right before the Civil War
so I ended up with a gap in my US history knowledge from like 1800-1860
Of course, the period that half the test took place in right?
ya for real haha
like you know the whole becoming a legit country, going from Articles of Confederation to the Constitution
Federalist Papers still cited in modern court cases on con law
some pretty significant stuff
plus westward expansion
War of 1812, Spanish-American War I think
wait no nvm
Spanish-American War was after Civil War th am I saying
Ye Texas wasn't a thing at that point lol
Now I'm curious
ya for real I'm going to readthe wikipedia article
Florida was the 40th state
Ah yeah that's right, it was 27th but then the war, and then reintegrated
I think Platt Amendment is why we still have Guantanamo Bay
No wonder you didn't remember, that was 1845 right smack in your gap
ya that was really not cool of my crappy high school
wait this chat isnt dead
wow
crazy how Spain & Great Britain used to control most of the world & now they're like the size of Maine
Yeah for some reason we went from overclocking to math to history, a usual late night chat
BSOD face
lol ya still dunno whether to use VCC Sense or Socket Sense for core voltage measurement on Z490 but glad I came here nonetheless
The jump to math isn't hard to fathom when we were talking about nanometers and angstroms
No idea where US history came in
They're still blue afaik
it should be green happy face cuz techies to the rescue
mine is always green
lol wth
Maybe you panel is BGR subpixel instead of RGB and colors get swapped?
Ah no I see what it is, the green screen is for insider builds
ohhhh
damn I never knew that
ya I like to run Betas on dailys & dev on occasional computers
sometimes some cool stuff comes along
I think my favorite feature they've had in the last year or so is the thing where like
your clipboard shows up on all devices
like I can copy something on my phone & it'll be available for paste on computer
Isn't that on Win11 already?
with Microsoft Swiftkey
Also like that Edge on Android I can click continue on PC & it'll pop up
as new tab
I've been doing that with firefox for years tho
I used to use Firefox all the time with ubuntu
but I felt like Firefox mobile was not that good
for awhile I used Chrome
Edge is just Microsoft version of Chromium
I use multiple browsers for multiple reasons, firefox is my main because of the sync
I only use Edge now because I can sync history, passwords, etc
I freaking hate remembering passwords
convenient
it's why I don't mind paying for OneDrive
That's just pocket on firefox lol
even tho it's really just about the same as manually putting folders in your favorites folder
Moral of the story: these days browser choice doesn't matter because they're basically all the same
ya true
Only reason I go with Edge is its native to windows
which I assume somehow means it'll integrate better
not sure how but eh
Only because M$ forces it
They've gotten in trouble recently with an antitrust lawsuit over forcing their browser to load search results and stuff even when another browser is default
isn't it funny how that works tho
Same thing happened in '02 I think it was
like they can't just be like "it's our OS" & take their ball & go home
you know, I wouldn't be surprised if they get hit with that sometime soon for pdf in Edge
because Adobe DC Pro is my default for pdf but in Edge it'll still open in Microsoft's pdf thing
but you wanna talk about antitrust? Acrobat is like the only pdf reader anyway
They created the pdf though, pretty sure it's under copyright or something
hmm just got a notification for another Software Update on Note20u
I wonder for how much longer tho
Ah no it's patented, not copyright
those type of scientific intellectual property things don't last long
probably utility patent?
the view being like okay you can make your money for awhile cuz you came up with the idea
They grant a free license to people to use the format but it's their format
but after that we allow others to use it because we want things to continue to get better
one thing I kinda miss about iOS is that the changes from iOS versions usually had some sort of distinct feature changes
Android updates are like oh look... exactly what I had before cool
haha well played Adobe
like ya sure use our thing btw did you know we have the best software for that file format? check it out
Here's the best part
"If you sue us you are implied to have never gotten permission to use the software"
lol seems a bit ex post facto to me but
ex post facto is more to do government
damn I should really rebuild my damn computer. I've been slacking
pretty sure I messed up the nickel plating on the CPU block
in a stroke of brilliance, I cleaned it with white vinegar
damn you reddit
That's why I'm getting solid copper heatkiller block
I think it's copper under the nickel at least haha
Yeah that's what it usually is, nickel plating
I'm looking forward to getting started on my custom loop. I've been thinking of doing the fractal torrent with a dual 180 + 360 setup
Top fill port is vur nice
Have you seen the Thermaltake P8?
that thing is a monster
but I'm all about those big fans on the Torrent
fans anyone?
I'd put this on the bottom https://www.aquatuning.us/water-cooling/radiators/radiators-active/360mm/12877/alphacool-nexxxos-monsta-360mm-radiator?c=25320
yoo
those NexXxoS
you can get 400mm
2x200mm fan
I wanted to do it so bad but I needed at least another 1/8" or it was going to be pressed against motherboard VRMs
Yeah, I could do a 420mm if I wanted but... eh
This would be the front https://www.aquatuning.us/water-cooling/radiators/radiators-active/180200mm/15241/alphacool-nexxxos-xt45-full-copper-180mm-dual-radiator
I always liked this case
that is heckin sweeeet
damn you're making me wanna swap a build into another case rn haha
I like my Cooler master H500P Mesh build but it's kinda small & doesn't have side rad option
Not like you need a rad on every intake anyway, unless you do lots of short benches.
I like 7000D but no 200mm fan support
7000D was just Corsair saying "look it's bigger"
lol ya pretty much
definitely whatever case I get next has to have bottom fan support
it's wasted intake space if you ask me
I always put PSU upside down now since hot air is supposed to push out of the back
& there's no reason to have it right under GPU pulling away cool air GPU could use
kinda unnecessary with waterblock tho I guess
I agree, bigger is not always better. It needs to be bigger with purpose, like the torrent
true but at the same time I can't imagine ever doing one of those ITX builds
Its whole thing is GIANT rad support
ya & it's practical
ITX is good if you have to move PC around alot or something
just doesn't really appeal to me to have less space & worse thermals
I guess for like non flagship processors it's good tho
No but you can do 2 more 180s on the bottom lol
Or triple 140
Actually I think it comes with triple 140 on the bottom already, interesting. Now I want it more.
haha niec
I don't appreciate 140s as much as I should
I've only ever used them as rear exhaust
since that's usually largest that will fit there
I think torrent is non-rgb tho no?
They have both rgb and non
with the fans too?
Yep
oh nice
Yes, and it actually helps CPU temps when using an air cooler
hmm never used one tbh
More channeled airflow and less blown out the top
Actually they have a graphic for that too
It got some of the best CPU temps out of any case GN tested
GPU too of course with those 140s pointed right at it
Yes, and it pulls air from inside case so acts as exhaust
good idea
well I'd think but wouldn't rad fans likely pull more air out than PSU fan?
PSU fan is designed with PSU in mind not really any other components I'd think
what does it support for rear exhaust fans?
single 140?
Yeah it can do a 140 on rear
Positive pressure for days
But also check out that rear panel
Nice and open
that is a bad ass looking computer tho
does seem strange not to have rear fan tho tbh
they need to make a case that has no PCIe expansions except for one for vertical GPU
so you can mount like 3x120mms on the back
You got a dremel? lol
I don't think it would make enough difference tbh. As it is the air is forced out the back at high pressure, and the rear is clearly high airflow
I was gonna make some cuts on 5000D cuz I was convinced 200mms could fit
but ended up not doing it
I like the idea of rear intake, front intake, bottom intake, top exhaust
cuz like physics & stuff
hot air rises
I always wanted to build a C700P Cosmos
but it's so expensive
plus looking at it again now, it's kinda dated
the bottom shroud is ridiculously large
like wth are you hiding under there?
unless you have like 10 HDDs
More likely it's a he but the point of them being in #overclocking is so they don't do that
Hey is it possible to over clock a ryzen 5 2600 to 4.2 GHz all core with Ryzen master
Possible, yes, should you do it, maybe not.
i like this graphic
Ohhh that's cool graphic
Wish GN did schlieren imaging to test that
Is that the term for that style of graphic?
It's the name of the imaging system GN has that allows you to visualize the airflow patterns and such
Ahhh that would be cool yeah
They used it here
https://youtu.be/VVaGRtX80gI
Using Schlieren photography techniques, we're able to show NVIDIA RTX 3080 Founders Edition airflow paths and behaviors. This is new to us, and we have a lot to learn for the future.
Grab a GN Foil 1 Million Subs shirt while you can! https://store.gamersnexus.net/products/limited-gold-foil-1-mill-subs-shirt (you get something cool, high quality,...
Oh i missed this, will watch
whats bios
i just use ryzen master
but my pc keeps crashing
Bios is the "basic input output system" and it controls all the hardware in the system.
You can access it by pressing delete when the computer is starting up. Ryzen master is pretty bad for overclocking 2000 series, you'll need better control over voltage and such.
i have a 5800x
Oh I mixed you up with the other person that was right above the message you linked
If the PC is crashing under load you probably need to change load line calibration setting to level 3 or 4, which you have to do in bios.
Most people should just enable PBO and leave it.
i set it to 5600mhz but it keeps crashing as soon as i open cinebench
JFC that's like world record speed on liquid nitrogen, it'll never go that high normally
No, it just means you're trying to kill your cpu
You have to pass a load test for the record
Just turn on PBO and call it good. That'll be better for gaming than any manual overclock.
If you really need the all core manual overclock, somewhere between 4600 and 4700 is usually the limit with a good liquid cooler
😦
i dont want my cpu to die
wahts pbo
Precision boost overdrive
The option is in ryzen master too
It should allow your cpu to boost single core speeds to 5000-5100 when gaming, or 4700 or so with a few cores loaded. All assuming you have a very good liquid cooler.
Slower and working is better than faster and crashing
i guess so
It's plenty fast anyway, about 400-500 fps in cs:go
1080p low settings like esports players do, yeah
wait whats cpsgo
Minecraft Java or bedrock?
whats the difference
Counter strike global offensive, a first person shooter online game
i think its education edition for minecraft
Bedrock has a limit on the number of fps
my mom said im not allowed gun games
they give me nightmares
Roblox is fps limited too, don't know about gacha
im gonna find a roblox fps thingy
Could do at least 200-300 then
You'll need to give more detail than that. How do you know it's a virus?
it said it was blocked because it found potentialy harmful software or somethiq2ngq
BNUT WHAT i do
is it getting my password?s
Then it was blocked and you're fine.
Do you want to play "stop trolling and wasting peoples' time?"
nobody wants to play with me 😦
i consider most people having an anime pfp and playing adopt me as female
apparently 1.6 million people played that at the same time
lol
Tis do be the internet
This is prob a stupid question but how to oc?
Check the pins
what

Yeah, I don't get it
the pinned messages in this channel
do you know how discord works
looks like this
Yeah, I know how it works but I need directions on the mobo ting
we dont have time to waste giving generic instructions to everybody
if you are serious about it
you will do the research yourself
if you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask
Should I look on youtube If that helps?
sure, there are some good guides on youtube somewhere, i havent looked into them though. start by reading the reddit post thats pinned at the top
huge index of different resources, pretty easy to find what youre looking for
Alright thanks
Overclocking is complicated and can be lengthy to explain so that's why there are guides pinned on how to do it and you can always look up YouTube tutorials
is there any way to estimate what VRVOUT would read if motherboard had it based on vcore?
Intel overclocking without VRVOUT sucks
which mobo thing
no

hi
also guys what should i set the wattage limit for pbo
i have 5800x
Find out the maximum power the chip can draw before throttling. Subtract 10-20 watts from that.
with hwinfo?
Eg
I set the limit super high (300W), run R23, monitor power draw, and I see it hit 170W after a few seconds, so I subtract 15W (I have an AIO so it will saturate with heat eventually) and set to 155W
hmm
lol
its just those to cores boosting to 4800mhz+ while all the other cores at 3800
x99
choosing that as my first XOCing platform was an experience
Btw whats the use of those fans when ln2 ocing? I think you might of said before but i forgot lol
Keeps the -196c ln2 vapor from freezing the board
also prevents condensation yeah?
That's the point, if the vapor cools the board, ambient humidity can condense
The board is usually fine frozen
Ahh yeah thought it was something along those lines
guys is 3666mhz cl18-22-18-21-40 better than 3200 cl16-18-18-18-36?
Both aren't great, but the 3666 is slightly better probably
i know i was dumb when i bought my pc
i got 3200mhz ram cjr die
Frozen pot much?
lol
hello
can I have help with my ram
i have been using 3200 mhz ram cl 16 but i recently upgraded to 4000 mhz ram cl 18 because it only costed me 10 more dollars compared to the 3200
i inserted it into my pc but my dram frequency is only running at 3200 mhz
i tried manually changing it, enabled the xmp profile but my *Task Manager is telling me its running at 3200 so I just let my motherboard configure the best options and now its running at 2747
i have a asus gaming tuf z390 mobo
and a 9700k
@hollow lotus #building-and-recc-chat
I answered ur question there
Dont ask in multiple channels
Dang that's satisfying
Satisfying indead, why heat up, to take off cpu quicker?
Also itx board cheaper than good atx t topology board ?
Yes, especially on am4, don't want to rip the cpu out of the socket, it was a 5300g I was running for the 3dmark 11 physics 5ghz stage. I usually heat the pot to 40c.
Ahh yes fair enough lol
It's the b550i strix, going for sweaty memory here, something like 2400 fclk, 4800c14
Twist and then pull off at an angle also good technique for am4
Figured
Unfortunately, this board has a 1.8v hard limit for vdimm
1.8 aint enough 👀
Yes - but isn't going to work when the paste is -100c
Bdie benches at 2v
Or even 0c
Oh fair
Most b-die scales to 2v, depends a lot on the pcb and just normal variation.
My best 2x8 3800c14 neos are terrible at 1.8v but do 4800c14 tight on the 10900k for geek3 @ 6.7, 32m @ 7.2
Damm, would they be okay with only a fan tho? Surely you'd need bit more than that?
On a board like that, the sticks are right up against the pot and if anything, can sometimes get too cold. But yeah, definitely want to keep them < 50c
Ahh true
😮
bruh what was the ram's stock speed
4000c18 or something. Two of my six 3800c14 neos did 48c14 tight on the 10900k on water
wow
this guy has single rank memory
do you think i can get similar results with mine
ample when
if you remove the inductor it should be easy to hook it up
Isn’t that the board that has 1.8V capacitors too
idk
.. like literally every other epower
yes
Just oced my gpu and cpu and ran a valley bench
My first time overclocking but it turned out amazing
Wouldn’t have been able to do it without my graphics card from Newegg tho
Check out benchmate, download is in the pins. Gpupi is a nice, free gpu only bench

Casual ram OC
Casual 5200 straight 14s lol
Samsung b die too good
yes
guys im actually doing it
im tuning the timings for my broken ram
i think its faulty

How can a 1050 Ti, even do this? It's even going past it's set boost clock.
What's your curve look like?
Could you rephrase that?
See the way core clock says "curve"
Can you show us the curve, not sure what button you press to get it up on that skin for afterburner but ye
Might be from the auto oc
boost clock is basically an imaginary number now and has been for many years
GPU boost algorithm will automatically go far past that
until it hits a wall at either max voltage, max power, or max temp
I had a 1050 mobile with an advertised boost clock of 1490mhz
got it running at like 2025mhz
might have been higher, memory is hazy
too long ago
let me see if I can find an old benchmark
ah I found it but unfortunately it didn't report clocks correctly
oh
Hey guys, how do i overclock for beginners or can it be done with these specs?
Intel i7-4930K 3.4ghz
DDR3 16 gb 1333 mhz
Asus Strix GTX 980
256gb SSD
Asus Rampage IV Black Edition motherboard
Seasonic 80 Plus gold 850W PSU
What CPU cooler do you have? @clear glade
I used to have a AIO corsair, ... it was dying on me making too much noise, i recently turned it into a cheap air cooler... Coolermaster Hyper 212, i added another fan on it, so i have 7 fans in total
Hmm yea you could probably overclock your 4930k by a few hundred MHz, and increase voltage if necessary by up to 100mV probably. I'm just giving a really rough estimate since Im not actually too sure.
What are you current temps when you run let's say 2 back to back runs of cinebench R20? Have you done any thermal tests as it is currently?
I haven't done anything lol i am new to this... i dont know where to start and what to do
I was hoping someone can walk me through or share some tutorial or something
undervolting?
Can anyone help me ajust the idle clocks of my gpu? 1 p state is like 570/810 core/mem & the lower pstate is actually clocked higher at 608Mhz. Tried w/ Nvidia profile inspector but hitting apply does nothing. Is that because afterburner is running? Thnx
it didnt work
pc still brokey
the lights turn on but nothing happens on the monitor
Flash bios from another gpu of the same model. That'll change your tables.
Just make sure it's got the same power and video port config
ok
wheres the battery
why would it have a battery
i cant find the battery
whats it supposed to look like
ill check online
@ivory lichen in it's own flat socket, usually shape/size of a nickel (usd 5cents). Kinda shiny, it's around the middle or near a gpu slot sometimes.
oh ok i found it
is it not meant to be there?
was i supposed to take it out when i got my pc
They are needed, almost all mobos for 20+ yrs have the same cmos battery. Uh, take it out to clear certain settings*, then reinstall. They can go bad and require replacement
Sorry, some typos I fixed.
Asus Strix specifically I guess? I have the 11gbps mem not 10, doubt that's any issue. Well, I'll look up a bios on techpowerup or something. Haven't edited/flashed a gpu bios in a while. --thank you.
It doesn't have to be the exact model, for example you can flash msi bios onto asus as long as the above rules are followed on power and video.
Also a potential issue is flashing non-lhr onto lhr gpu or vice-versa
i took the battery out
do i put it back in
almost 12 hours of anta+arshia ass kicking & no errors but CPU-Z, Asrock, & HWiNFO all show nonsense for frequency. Should show 3866
this 32x2 mjr kit worked fine when it was with 10900K on MSI Z490. Now same kit & same 10900K on Aorus Z590 Ultra, won't boot XMP & does this goofy crap
could be defective mobo
never had issues with the 3200c16 set tho
dunno what's going on
IMC degraded, memory itself corrupted somehow, I dunno?
sfc & dism find nothing
the little indicator on the motherboard says AO (all okay) too
Looks like it reverted to jedec after failing to train
well that would be pretty crappy
I wonder if I bump CL back up to 18 if it would work
I'm gonna check all the settings first
any idea what training voltage should be usually?
I'm not really an Intel overclocker but I know general stuff about dies and such. I do know it's a lot easier to run gear 2 and 2T.
it's running 2t
That much I saw
I feel like it's gotta be something with the board settings. I dunno
heckin aorus
I have a love/hate relationship with that board
Same settings are likely to yield different results on different boards for various reasons
still blows my mind that XMP with same cpu & same kit ran fine on MSI Z490 but same cpu & same kit can't POST XMP on Aorus Z590
your TM5 bugged out
notice how it's still on cycle 1 and no tests are running
oh thought cuz it was anta+arshia that it was different somehow
but it ran 6 hours of anta777 no errors also
I'm trying CL18 now to see if it shows the right frequency
it's definitely training cuz it does this cycle of speeding up fans then dropping back down then repeating like 2-3x
pretty crappy feature tho tbh
wish it would make me clear CMOS or go to the "BIOS failed to load" thing instead of just acting like it's okay & running crap
See if there's an option in the bios to increase the number of training attempts
I'll look for it
I know my msi board has that
would it quit training after like 3-5 seconds of doing it? lol
Might be called memory fail retry or something
with CL18 at least my LAN connection is back
It usually does 2 attempts and quits
still shows 31,982 for frequency tf
since XMP won't POST, I guess I have to run whatever frequency is under 3800 instead of 3866
heckin crap
I should just sell this crap for like half of what I paid (since that's likely all I'll get) & get another bdie kit
I'm gonna see if 3700c17 POSTs
awhat is Realtime Memory Timing?
oh allows you to change settings in OS
It's entirely possible that the die on your memory isn't as compatible with the new board
Which would be a bios thing
heck
what do you think resale on 32gbx2 MJR Trident Neo Z would look like? lol
not seeing any settings other than training voltage
low
lol heck
maybe $100-160?
maybe better
that's c18 & 3600
this is 3800c18
then again, once ebay hits you up for the whatever % $160 is probably about right
ya ebay sucks for that
thiught you had 2x16
no 2x32
but this kit is crap
I mean it's alright for someone running XMP & needs lots of memory for whatever
but for OC it's crap
I'm gonna boot at 3400 everything auto & see what it does
cuz if it's still showing nonsense for the frequency I think Fal'Cie is right & there has to be a compatibility issue
hmm
stuck on the Aorus logo
this board & this memory do not like each other for real
for now, I'm gonna swap it with the 2x16 3200c16 in my 10700KF build
since that build has the MSI board that it worked fine on before in it
& update the offerup post lol
gotta get my status up in performance PCs so I can list there
offerup hasn't gotten anywhere in like a month. oh well
WTH
still showing nonsense with the MJR inserted lol
well we're trending to better tho. CPU-Z shows the right frequency now at least. HWiNFO hasn't joined the party yet tho
@sudden torrent So besides other usable options, I found the 2 stock bios's for my exact card, AS01 & AS04. I have the latter, & I think it was about default fan settings or something. They were made only 18 days apart in 2017. ---The good news: since PC on from standby today, idle core/mem is 139/405Mhz w/ just quick spikes to the next P state of 570/810. That high-idle could've been a glitch, possibly also related to using MSI AB for a .9v max. Idle 25C cold hourse, load 60-65C. Thnx for the input.
@sudden torrent Oh I think I solved. MSI AB clock/voltage curve, clicking a point then hitting L to limit voltage or actually "lock" it seems to keep me at 570 & not drop to the super low idle. 👍 .
Well, Happy turkey day everyone!
@proven canopy sorry to at you, but just realized I submitted score for GeekBench3 multi... was supposed to be for GB4. Whenever you get a chance can you lmk how to delete it? not trying to have score canceled or impropriety allegations
is there anything to be gained from over clocking an evga 3070 ti. not really sure how to do it.
download afterburner
set voltage, power limit, & temp limit to max
then start with +100 GPU clock, run furmark or something of the like until it crashes
then back up 15mhz & save/write down
then set mem clock at +480 & increase by 15 until furmark/whatever crashes, then reduce by 15mhz
you'll get more FPS & better performance, but it will make your graphics card hotter
download HWiNFO or something to monitor temps
I do increments of 20 on memory because GDDR6 and 6X are QDR, meaning it's 5x4=20

FX 6300 on Biostar 990fx Mobo
So Fal'Cie idk if I accidentally flashed my bios to the "older" one, but gpu-z says it is. I kinda want to flash (to newer), but nvflash was being finicky trying to type commands in the prompt. Plus, not like AS05 would do much.
Could someone help me overclock my gpu using EVGA percision X1 or another program
@faint sage There's guides, but I'll give a crash course. Note that your 30 series has different options/settings as my 10 series. Msi afterburner is what I have and it's popular. It's not very complicated. Well, simplest setup I think is to only put the Power Limit (PL) & perhaps also Temp Limit (TL) up a bit.
Otherwise, you (also) increase core clock and/or mem clock by 5-10mhz then benchmark in certain games or programs to check stability, then repeat.
Upping voltage a certain amount helps max OC, but I don't touch it personally. I undervolt my gpu, but not sure why I bother w/ the sweet Strix cooler & it is winter.
I'm not at home to check the nvflash commands, I'll ping you later
Unless someone helps first
Is it the 3060 in your nickname?
Ok thnx, no problem. If you'd like, can msg here later* or in DM about nvflash. I tried running it inside cmd as admin and stuff. Maybe glitches from having other stuff open concurrently.
yes
Ok cool, I'm guessing it's a gaming overclock. Start by maxing out the power and temp limit, and then set memory to +1000 and core to +150. Then you can test if it's stable using a stress test or benchmark, like furmark, unigine heaven, or time spy.
Yep
just push run?
Yes
then what
Let it run, and watch it to see if it crashes or the screen looks weird (artifacts, tearing, flickering, etc)
If it looks fine after a while bump up the memory +100 with it still running
Let it run through the bemchmark
it didnt crash
didnt see ur message till it finished
do i keep doing that until it breaks?
That's fine, do +100 and run it until it crashes and drop it back down. Then do +20 until it crashes again.
I've seen some 3060s max out at +1500, others get stuck around +1000
just memory mghz
Yes just memory for now
how long should i run it for each bump
5 minutes is fine for initial testing
Ok, you can either leave it at 1300 or try to push it further in increments of 20.
Yeah. Every card is different, some can do more than others based on luck and binning
so where is mine on the scale?
Above average so far
Ok 1380 is as far as i can go
@sudden torrent Now what
It crashes on 1380 or passes?
Ok, it's a good idea for stability to leave it at 1360. That way more demanding games don't crash it.
ok
Next you'll be pushing the core clock in +30 increments
so 180 now
ok
If it goes above 210 you got a really good overclocker
ok it gave me a black screen sadly
165 then right?
Boost bins go in 15 increments. Doing +10 usually has no effect.
Now you stress test using another program
actually wait when i had the first crash my power reset let me try 180 again
Heaven is good but not the most stressful, run furmark for 15 minutes and watch temps
ok
If anyone finds 32gb (16GBx2) bdie on super black Friday sale lmk lol
because overclocking MJR & AJR sucks
pinged you with some in general btw
Much appreciated
Np
interested on used?

Where's that at?
If anyone wants to help a goldfish (me) get memory to run at 4400mhz xmp dm me
What's a good ceiling for safe vddq voltage for alder lake?
I'm at 1.45 and got 4000mhz cl19 stable
can i overclock my chocolate frosted donut
Spin it in a circle faster
Yes
Stick it on a spiny boi motor, and push all the volts into the motor
Throw it real hard at someone and ull reach 1 hurts

HWiNFO author talking to noob is probably how most of this channel felt answering my questions for the first 3-5 months https://www.hwinfo.com/forum/threads/how-to-install-hwinfo-on-linux.7083/
Hi Martin, i'm new to all of this and try to figure out how to install the new version on linux?
i guess i did just install the HWINFO version by typing "sudo apt install hwinfo" and now i will need the HWiNFO v6.42 to be able to read the Memory Junction Temperature on my MSI RTX 3080 Ventus...
holy crap lmao
but nah he's not on linux or windows, he's on templeOS 🤡
ultimate plot twist
Is that the reverse engineered win 95 copy lol?
I forget, I don't really know much about it besides it's the butt of a lot of jokes lmao
No its a OS built with a custom language called Holy C developed by Terry Davis and x86 assembly
In the late 2000s, a man begins relentlessly sharing his custom operating system, but when people take notice of the man's strange behavior, they become witness to the degradation of his mental state.

It's both open source and in the public domain also, people have made distros based off of TempleOS which is neat
Ahh
thanks, this gave me a headache
well heck that certainly wasn't my intention
FNG eh?
so at what frequency would the penalty incurred by desyncing FCLK become worth it? would jumping from 3800c14 to 4000c14 be worth it? 4000c16?
define worth it
For daily? Almost never worth it.
I see thank you]
btw the higher CLDO_VDDP & VDDG CCD voltage was based on:
and even tho for Ryzen 3000, I (for whatever reason at the time) separated SOC & CLDO_VDDG voltage by 40mv based on:
just increased CLDO VDDP from 1.04v to 1.075v & AIDA shows drop from 64.1ns to 60.6ns (ran benchmark 3x & got 60.6 exactly each time)
tempted to try 1.090 to see if trend continues
i like overclicking
My CLDO VDDP is only 0.9V 0_o
wonder if I can get tRCD 14 stable if I bump to 1.0V
can you send the link from where you got this from?
oh nvm
it's from the DDR4 OC guide
It's the guide yes
At the bottom.
Well first picture is from the bottom
Second is above frequency I believe
you can bump to 1.09v I believe lol
I got diminishing returns north of 1.075v but maybe your experience will be different
sooo does this get me a spot on Zen RamOC Leaderboard spreadsheet?
No get a 5800x so less latency
lol the lowest latency on the sheet is like
well hold on
& heck
don't have a 5800x but I have a 10700KF? lol
Nah but fr nice oc
the top spot is 60.2
top 3 is 60.9 lol
not even sure how this works anyway. Is latency what decides rank?
I appreciate that
even the blind squirrel finds a nut type thing tho lol
But fr 5800x will see far lower latency because single ccd
lol then I gotta buy another CPU
not to mention take apart loop & all that mission
repaste
plus this has to be old
Ur on the zen 2 tab
lmao
I'm trash actually
48.3 is lowest Zen 3
back to BIOS for me
from thinking I'm like number 3 or 4 to unranked cuz I'm not even sub 60ns
doesn't look like any 59xx is in top 50 w/o >1900FCLK
yeah i was about to say
60.2ns top spot? seems wrong
i have 53.7ns and i don't even have b-die
if it's zen 2 that makes more sense
Ayo @proven canopy any idea as to how i submit a result to the AM4 community CPU/RAM overclocking results spreadsheet
I'm sure there are instructions on the doc
Just says add a new entry at the bottom but that is not working
Hmm strange clicking the link on here doesnt work but if i go to my history and click on the same thing it does
anyone know if WHEA service works on win11?
what gpu do you have again?
i can go up to +1450 on my 3060 ti, and it has a factory +100 on it
