e5-1660 is $60, e5-2665 is $8.69
For Photoshop/Lightroom would you want better core speed or more cores?
ah, the e5-1650 is is $22, not bad
e5-1650 turbos to 3.8ghz on 6 cores, e5-2665 turbos to 3.1ghz on 8 cores
The 1650 beats it in both single and multi core so it's a moot point
interesting
Where you seeing it for $22?
hmm passmark places the e5-2665 higher in MT
but not that much higher
By 150 points lol
yeah, e5-1650 is probably a better choice
guess there's a reason the 2665 is $9
$22 is still a great price
For sure, $22 is still great
I have the 1650 in my home server, it's great for plex and storage
hmm any chance the e5 v2s work in that board?
Can I just take the old CPU out and drop this in?
yeah absolutely
Depends on bios
But nothing else physical? No extra bits or whatever?
Does he have extra paste or is he gonna run pasteless?
gonna need new thermal paste yes
Like $5 for a tube
Ya, I'll grab a tube 😊 thanks for the reminder
Np
i forgot too lol
xD
interesting
this workstation got a bios update in 2019
it doesn't say anything about adding support for v2 cpus though
I'm not seeing v2 anywhere either
I'm out for now - thank you so much! I'll be back of I need help with the BIOS ☺️ have a good day y'all 🥳💖
oh, the v2 cpus use a different chipset (C602)
you too
oh, interesting, the e5-2687W apparently works in the T3600
that's an 8 core with the same turbo clocks as the 1650
$44 though
not officially supported due to too high TDP but i saw some people saying they got it running
You could probably ask our resident xeon lover
far?
I have my pc built and have a lot of rgb from different companies, ordered a new keyboard Corsair K100 and theNexus to go wit it. Will the Icue software cause me problems with with all my other rgb? Do I chance connecting these or just return them and get the Logi G915 lightspeed keyboard to go with my mouse? I really don't want to have issues with all my RGB getting messed up as it was a pain to get everything from all these places to sync up in the first place. Anyone have experience with Icue working with other parts and software from other companies?
When you're mixing vendors like that sometimes you'll have luck using signalrgb or openrgb, so you can use a single program for all of them
Or at least use that for most and the incompatible stuff can use its own
Not trying to use or sync Icue just use it for the keyboard stand alone and the nexus aas a monitor
(stupid nvidia FE cards only work with PX1 software)
icue is the problem
openrgb does work on corsair keyboards
not sure about corsair mouse but probably
Thank's right now it's all synced with fusion except for one of my back fans which is TT and I do run my ram seperate with Gskills trident as it just has better looks then fusion offers
Got a Logi gaming mouse only thing Corsair would be the keyboard and the nexus. I probably should have got the keyboard to match the mouse but really liked this old corsair keyboard
Logi mice work in openrgb
Probably just get the G915 keyboard then and return this Corsair stuff
once i build my new keyboard openrgb should also support it over QMK
I use it in my linux install. Syncs all my stuff except my gpu.
Even the 30 series FE?
oh
probably not lol
i don't have any FE cards
isn't the led in the FE card white only?
interesting
I'm on 0.71, is there an update?
0.7 is the one that started supporting all my gpus
Yeah latest official release is 0.7, I'm on a version I compiled that's newer

What's this coord that ABS never hooked up for on the back of the Mobo that says PC data?
I'd assume feeds overall PC data to something but? It's not in use lol
The back of this PC is a mess so many things are intertwined instead of just layered I'm gonna have to unplug basically everything. Any videos y'all would recommend on better understand what all these diff wires are for? Watching build videos isn't very helpful it's always just watching them put stuff together with minimal explanations because they expect the viewers to already know the basics.
That's the rgb controller
If the rgb is working and you can control it with software then that wouldn't be necessary to plug in
probably to hook up the RGB controller to software sync
I haven't been able to do anything to the LEDs on the cpu fan. The front fans of case have a button on top to cycle thru multiple modes.. but I'd like to be able to sync CPU fan and the front fans. As well as maybe add some fans in the top of the case if I ever start working this thing hard lol
Where would it plug in?
Dang I didn't know there were PC building simulators that's pretty cool
motherboard RGB header
So it's currently plugged into the back of the Mobo and gets plugged into Mobo somewhere else? There's also 2 plugs on the end that isn't hooked to anything
these PC building simulators are freaking awesome. Watching a YouTube about it..that could be a helpful way to learn
I wouldn't know what to do with one currently though. I need to know more about the diff parts used still
I couldn't even tell you where the ram stuff is on the Mobo. It's really bugging me I can't find like a clear cut way to just learn this stuff. So much nonsense on YouTube
Or stuff already past my knowledge level
I'd love to get control of all the RGB on this PC though. Can even the strip under Asus on the GPU be changed??
where is it plugged in on the mobo?
oh i thought you meant actually plugged into the mobo
Top left corner says PC data. Then it's not hooked to anythjnf else and has two plugs on the end of it
that's the rgb controller it's not part of the mobo
Oh I thought that was backside of motherboard my bad
if you hook it up to the mobo then whatever is plugged into it (probably the fans you can't control) can be software controlled
(probably)
Hm.. well what about the button on top of the case that does those 3 fans would I need to change that too?
So is one of the two plugs from the cpu fan that are plugged into Mobo for the LEDs and could be plugged into the controller instead?. I see now, the 3 front fans are only thing hooked to the controller.
So I could get it all on the button for the case couldn't I?
I feel like one of the plugs is in fact for the CPU LEDs and could be plugged into that controller on the rear. But the spot it's plugged into now on mobo says "Add_gen 2.2" ?
that is the correct header
for ARGB
so your software can control the cpu fan but not the case fans?
you could plug the cpu cooler into the controller than plug the controller into the mobo
unless your mobo has more than 1 argb header then you could just plug the controller into the other header
I don't even know if I have any software. The cpu fan is on default I guess. And I control the front three case fans with the button on top of case that goes to the RGB controller on back of PC.
I'm so confused what to do. The cpu fan RGB is plugged into this individual RGB spot,
Couldn't I just move it to the RGB controller on the back....or if plug the PC data coord in from controller to mobo will I get control of cpu fan that way?
yes
Yes to which option? Both?
I can't figure out where the PC data plugs will go on the Mobo either. I don't see where it would fit.
I'm so lost this is getting frustrating
If you connect the CPU fan to the controller it'll sync.
What's the other end of the PC data cable look like, the side you said isn't plugged in?
is there a HUGE difference between a Asus KO 3060 ti OC and an Asus KO OC 3070 ? debating on a $100 price difference for the 3070
how much is each
not worried abt pricing tbh, anything under $900 for a gpu is cool, i just wanna know if there’s a huge difference between the two
^
You have 900 for a gpu?
The 3070ti for $720 is a decent deal rn
cad i should mention sorry, didn’t think it would matter about pricing - just wanna know if there’s a huge difference between the two
I mean for a 100cad difference the 3070 would be very similar dollar to performance as the 3060ti
what resolution you playing at
3070 vs 3060ti is like a 15% performance difference, your call whether that will be worth it for games you currently play or games you plan to play in the future
1440p
if the games ur playing are gpu demanding i’d go for 3070
waiting for the right gpu to go on sale, 3070 Asus KO OC model
Otherwise 3060ti is perfectly fine
What games u playin tho
both are fine at 1440p, but I'd rather have the 3070 at 1440p personally
sounds good, i’ll shoot for that. $850 for the 3070 KO OC
I dailied a 3070 at 1440p for a bit
only really demanding game i play is DL2, WD2, and maybe RD2, but everything else is good
yes lol
it went up $100 which i’m waiting for it to drop
but you guys have higher tax too
yeah 11%
so closer to 700
so $850 is actually
tax is like 10.5 here 😭💀
yeah 5% gst 6% pst
my city is at 8.75, my gf's city is at 10.25
Reason: Bad word usage
It used to be 9.5 here but now it 10.5
we're lucky until we need an ambulance
fr
wow rommy
I thought you loved me
after tax?
after tax
but I am healthy
my brain is a geforce 210 with a core2 duo e8400
3070 KO
and 512mb ddr2
gota add the ddr2 ram😎
LMFAO
running microsoft bob OS
off of a 2gb ide hard drive that makes demon noises
okay
bring your 3090 over
we will play fortnite rtx
sure I'll treat you
I actually had a 3 slot SLI bridge
but I sold it
idk who actually bought that
Chef rommy
isn’t sli basically a meme now
since you don’t gain any practical performance from it
SLI generally decreases gaming performance now
seen up to 40% decrease in some games
But it’s good for like GPU heavy rendering stuff right
with 2 2080ti in nvlink vs 1 2080ti
I don't think you even need nvlink to do multigpu renders
just have the gpus in there
Wait facts
but I'm not sure, I don't render
I know my 3070s are able to do innocent cuda workloads together without any kind of link
Smh
A 3 pin RGB plug and a plug that says gdv
i remember seeing 4 gt 710s in sli
lol
4 gt 710 worse than 1 gt 710
GT 710s are the most popular video cards on Amazon, but they also suck...but do 4 of them SLI'd together suck? Let's see.

WATCH MY ...
So much effort wasted
sli bad
I just plugged cpu fan into the RGB controller... Plugging the controller into Mobo isn't giving me control thru the software. I think it's conflicting with the case button that can also control the controller... So I just put CPU plug into controller for now and can control it all with the button on the case
That's as close as I can get until I ask abs why I being plugged into the Mobo isn't working
Figured out issue. Gotta tell case I'm using Mobo and aura sync instead of button
The all new 2840
Yayyyy
I got all my RGB working on aura sync now
Robeytech discord helped me out. It was just the case button conflicting the Mobo having control of the rgb
w
Stc sorry

that is still confusing
Still confusing
stc isn't a rating as far as I know
Thank you 😊
Yay cool
Arctic mx4 is good and cheap
mx-5 is great as well, buy whatever is cheaper in the quantity you need
Also found my new favorite type of remixed music. Drill remixes... Makes sense as I did percussion in highschool and was on quite the good team
Music synced lights are so fun.
I like my rgb practical so it's set to CPU temp color.
Yea they are. And these drill remixes have me stoked. It's like the type of music I've always needed. As in a way I'm always added onto beats in my head or drumming with my hands when I listen to certain songs. Need to get a soundboard and start trying to make my own remixes as I can definitely come up with the beats just need to learn to use the software etc
Was on indoor drumline in highschool and we placed 11th in the world our first year doing it. And performed horribly at that lol, we'd been practicing in a high school gym for months and then all the sudden in a nfl stadium the sound was so off we all dragged time because it caught us off guard.. still took 11th lol
Ok it's official. I'm ordering a soundboard soon
I've had it in my head for years I wanna make remixes of songs and just add on to the beats. And now I'm finding people already do it. Oh I'm in lol, I bet I could destroy some songs
Nice you on 1080p?
2 x 27" 144hz @ 1440p
Ah cool
Yeah, and you'll be ready once more games support Microsoft direct storage. Nice.
The i5-12400 is plenty powerful too
and good value
With the asus b660 mobo, you actually get m.2 4.0 on primary m.2 slot, coupled w/ the Crucial P5 Plus m.2 4.0 it is actual read speed of 6600Mbps
8 thread gang. Bye bye 3550.
@sacred rivet curious about the decision to get braided gpu power cables but not braided mobo power cable?
Have the braided one, but wanted to get the system up and running before I bothered with the install.
Hy-510
(dont)
Now time for lga2011
dude came in asking about upgrades for his dell precision T3600
recommended an e5-1650
Yea that's a good chip, though I'd probably go for an ivybridge one
couldn't find any proof that it supported v2s
Fair enough
couldn't find any bios updates from dell that suggested it either
bear in mind it is dell we're talking about lol
My dad got himself a z420 a few days ago, has a 1650 in it
think dell would rather you buy a T3610 than upgrade the T3600 to a v2
definitely
Yeah I caught part of the talk. I'm reall unfamiliar with 2011 & most xeon stuff in general. Running cinebench as a quick speed/temp check then I'll try 3dmark before some gaming. Extra cache & 100MHz was a small bonus to 2x cpu threads. 3535 on cinebench. Max temp 51c & 49w says hwinfo
yea the e3 xeons arent particularly interesting imo, but its still cool how they're basically slight upgrades to their i5/i7 counterparts while also being cheaper
For sure. Instead of $60ish, it was $35ish so definitely worth a try. Worst case it just makes a slightly better spare rig. Oh yeah I ran 3dmark. Gained a solid 800ish cpu pts seems pretty healthy. Might have a bit lower cpu usage & better 99% lows in a couple games. Also found an 11700 I'm gonna bid on.
yea thats pretty cool
it's good how slept on these older xeons get
the 2680v3 is down to about 55 bucks, it's crazy
Could someone make a pc list for 2000 AUD, for 1440p Ultra settings gaming, Game creation (Unity, unreal engine) and some light video editing
I felt like I made one 2 days ago
On my mini homemade PC the back panel of the case is completely open and I'm scared of the back part of the CPU, I don't want to accidentally touchi it, short it, or anything...
What should I cover it with?
anything thats non conductive
Give me a few examples of what could I use (something that I probably have at home)
Plastic, cardboard
I'll check what I've got
Thank you
No heat problems since the 2400g stays at 23°C at idle
🥶
Became the front panel
Because the case is homemade
I cut it
Ahh
Do there numbers look good?
electric tape as well as what pato said
@orchid ruin please god no not ubm
But why
!ubm
`UserBenchmark is NOT a reliable source of information and has been blanket banned in many hardware communities such as r/hardware and r/intel for what started as an anti-AMD bias but has spiraled into delusion.
In fact, they tried so hard to skew results in favor of Intel's midrange that they even cannibalized Intel's own high end. For example, according to UserBenchmark, the i3-9350K is rated higher than the i9-10980XE.
For a similarly convenient quick-and-dirty hardware comparison website, we recommend using PassMark instead of UserBenchmark.
PassMark CPU comparison: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleCompare.php
PassMark GPU comparison: https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/singleCompare.php
Want to know more?: https://youtu.be/RQSBj2LKkWg`
okay then
ill do heaven benchmark
anyway
I replaced the cooler with the latest noktua one because why not
and it ended up amazing
thank you so much!
If you want a good gaming performance benchmark use 3d mark timespy
3dmark demo is free on steam
I've never even heard of that before, what are you trying to test?
Pato
I got the PC
Processor Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2640 0 @ 2.50GHz, 2500 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s)
16 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD, 500 GB Hard Drive
what gpu?
GIGABYTE GeForce 1660
nice
thats the best i could do in my budget
wanna guess how much this cost?
Nice find
Hello all
You don't need to put in build pics btw but nice
I'm trying to put together a computer and would like professional help in looking over what I've chosen
Not a professional but i know my stuff... What country are you in what's your budget and what will you be using the pc for?
Okay that will get you a fantastic pc... How many monitors do you want to power?
ryzen 5900x
Asus AM4 Tuf x570 plus wifi
Crucial balistix 3200 32 GB
MSI Ventus rtx 3060
Corsair 4000D case Mid
Corsair 750 Watt power
Corsair Hydro series H100i liquid cooler
Looking to have the option for 4 monitors
Wasn't sure about 5950X or 5900 and about the motherboard. Going for the B550 or 570
Also Rog Stix v Tuf
what do you want to do with your computer?
productivity?
or gamuctivity?
I'll put together a list of what i would do
@buoyant abyss how many displays are you going to be running and what resolution?
2 to start then 3 then 4
Okay 👍
so olmo my 5950x shreds premier pro and blender
so if you want to render and compile
its pretty beast
I have both 5900x and 5950x. Both are great cpus and capable for your tasks. I would think the internet/networking speeds would impact you more.
From what I've read it seems like both would be good. I'm just really ignorant and trying to make the best choice.
I would like it all to last as well.
Don't want to re do this too often
they are really comparable cpus
the 5900x is very slighty better for clock speed
but the 5950x makes up for it with core count
the price tag of the 5900x is really nice for what you get
but the difference begins to show on seriously taxing renders and video editing
Thanks
@buoyant abyss i would do this
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/r2PF8r
what is budget?
nice thats perfect
They're gonna be doing trading as in stock n shares
Oh
I hit 25w on one of my 5950x cores so theoretically you could hit 400w on the cpu alone
so if I would upgrade it would be the psu
but thats right on budget
so its swag
750w is plenty for a 5950x and a 3050 tho
Y'all know to much lmao
If they want more than 4 displays just add another 3050 or something
ahh
did not consider that
just thought they would get a big boy gpu
thicc
potentially
hahaha
im used to itx builds
No point since they don't even need 3050 power just the ports lol
I only ever build its I forgot several slots exist lol
new gpu have so many ports
itx
You can have 2 GPUs?
My itx card has two ports 😭
yes~
Ye does nothing for gaming tho
Yeah or three or four if you’re feeling spicy
Daymmm
for a while they messed with nvlink
I don’t see a point of 4 gpus unless you’re like mining
My dad has beefy PC and I always wonder why he had to GPUs
probably for monitors
Only reason to have more would be mining or Gpu heavy compute or just to power a lot of displays
a lot of displays is the best non mining reason for having two gpus
because they only have so many slots each
I don't see the point for 2 lol
Gpu rendering
my brother has a 2080 on his gaming monitor and his 1650 on his other monitors
Hm
or a 1650
True but dont they usually have ancient ports
sadly gt 710 no longer good enough as it'll hold you back from installing newer drivers
uhh
hdmi and dvi usually
yay
dvi can easily be adapted to hdmi
Dvi :/
Yeah
True lol
Dvi is nice because it’s not vga
I just bought a dvi to hdmi adapter for $0.47 + $1 shipping
How much are 3050s anyway?
and it's one of the rigid adapters that sticks off of the port, no annoying cable
ideally $249
right now or msrp?
Daym
Good one
😂😂😂
Wym
Msrp is manufacturer suggested retail price
Not even 300 is a steal
yeah so people buy up all the gpus and sell them at a higher price @fleet heron
I did the pc builder on newegg
so the market for gpus is pretty rought rn
The other one than lol
rough*
Ik
Would it allow incompatible parts to go together there?
Kinda like the ps5
and get a mobo with HDMI + DP
Might as well use pc part picker.... Gets you more variety and cheaper prices sometimes
banned for not being corporate slave
Ehh for trading i think the extra cores are worth
you could use ddr5
pc builder on wegg limits parts so much too
12900K beats 5950x in MT lol
^
power draw isn't that much different either
Ddr5 has no use in day trading until it becomes as cheap as ddr4
241W PL2 on 12900K vs somewhere in the 200s for a 5950x
Ddr5 as in the ram?
It depends on what the benchmark is tbh
day traders also typically care about single core performance the most
Yes
so 12900K wins there
but that 12900k also comes with much more heat
Oh really i thought they needed multi?
it really doesn't
105tdp vs 125tdp
Fun fact
the formula for TDP doesn't even include power at any point
it's a completely made up bs number
interesting
I just said 5950x and 12900K power consumption is practically the same at load
Lol
Shouldent we be talking in general?
if you put a cooler advertising itself as 125w tdp on either of those chips you're going to have a really bad time
Nah
When purchasing windows 11 brand new for new build, get the usb flash? Or?
no? we're talking about a build
haha ikr lol
Oh we are?
@fleet heron do you already have a 5950x?
You can just get a key code you don’t need a usb
that would not be epic
Huh
😂
You don't need to purchase windows 11, you can do windows 10 or just leave it unactivated
you should switch to 12900K if you don't have the stuff already
Bro is so confused
They got nothing so far
Nope I've got 20$ in my bank acc
I sold my pc
12900K has better single core, better multicore, and will get you more display outputs
Sheeeesh
$20?
And brought some stocks
ok, get a core2 duo
Wrong guy
Kk lol
W
oh
Lmao!!!
Yea..
Olmo is the one building
oops
I've been using a macbook for a long time, not much other experience
well
Core 2 duo gaming
get a 12900K
my brothers 12900k hits 96c on 280 rad thats my reference point
I have reseated it for him
Apple doesn't really offer anything for gaming
he just ocs it to hell
They're not gaming .......
and my 5800x hits 90C on a 360mm rad
You don’t consider apple arcade as gaming?
what about it
my 5950x peaks around 81
🤖
under 100% load
zen 3 taught us that heat density is far more important now
just my point of reference is my brothers cpu
that's why 5800x runs hotter than 5950x
my 5950x peaks 15 degrees cooler than his 12900k
are you ocing it like he is?
Meh not really ngl
Alternatively you could do this instead of 5950x but it's gonna cost more @buoyant abyss
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RqGPVw
run 1.4 manual through your 5950x and watch it burn
I was kidding 😂
I can get my 5800x to thermal throttle without overclocking it
Interestng
under a galahad 360
no but we have comparable scores
and 12 case fans
I dont oc my 5950x because of power consumption worries
3080 with 5950x on a 750w powersupply
lol you're fine
I have hit 25w per core
I ran 3600x + 3080 + 3070 on B tier 650w
no you haven't
U @ him
lol?
do you have screenshots?
25w per core * 16 cores + 30w soc
430w?
custom loops can barely handle 20w per core
I dont understand it like forks
you running LN2 on stock settings?
single core sure I believe
but no way you hit 25w on all cores
the laws of physics will not allow that
my motherboard is itx
Physics moment
whats that thing called
the meme
with power distro on my cpu
power steps?
power stages?
whats that called again
electricity
:/
the stock power target for the 5950x is 142W
so if you didn't oc it will begin to throttle at 142W
which is less than 8W per core
7.625W assuming 20W SOC
It has pbo enabled
But what is the thing I’m thinking of mushroom
It’s the power steps between psu and cpu
you mean... vrms?
what board do you have?
it's not very hard to drive a 5950x on ambient cooling as far as vrms are concerned
Yes thank you lol. You know what’s funny is that wallpaper engine in the background was turboing my cpu to 4.7 idle lol. I couldn’t find the source forever. I think forks remedied my power draw issues we sat in vc for a while and he did all the stuff so I’m confident in it now. He scared me a little when he first talked to me not gonna lie haha
use a scene instead of a video
scenes take very little resources
video wallpapers will happily load up 40% of your cpu
Thank you! That makes sense I’ll try it when I get home
i have a custom made scene running on my internal monitor
takes almost zero resources
just filter workshop like this if you're not making your own
It’s just a benchmark test
Yes but what where you trying to benchmark so i can recommend one that actually means something
@fossil cedar Cpu and gpu
3d mark timespy
man I gotta learn how to make my own wallpaper engines
@torn peak how did you get a free airflow panel?
Corsair support. I asked them for one and they said yes @fossil cedar
Oh sweet lol
Did you get the 4000x or 4000d non airflow?
4000D non airflow
I remember when I had a corsair carbide 275r
and the 275r airflow came out
I asked if I could buy an airflow panel and they said no
Guess you weren't very lucky then
Corsair literally have the 4000d airflow panel on their site but for like 15€/$
Dam
It's also never in stock in the us iirc
apparently the 275R and 275R airflow have more differences than the front panel
so they couldn't sell me one
i just sold it and got an actually good case
oh well
Lol
275r h510 edition
Any reason why this could be happening?
Could be a dodgy cable or driver issue but first make sure you're not using a resolution with an i at the end instead of p - you can check in your graphics drivers
I’ll take a look at that
Huh it’s set to p, I’m going to reinstall the drivers and restart and see if that will do it
looks like bad cable
Yeah I’m going to go buy a new one now, what is better hdmi or display?
Oh okay ima go yoink one real quic
Is it free
yes, search 3dmark on steam and download the demo
Bad cable or your GPU. My laptop did that at one point whenever I tried to switch from having an extra monitor hooked up to going back to one
Dose anyone know if there a cable to change this to a regulate RGB conector. It eme to to my omen control board
Is that... a sata data connector... on a rgb controller?
Yes it is
But I don’t need the board any more I upgrade past the omen board and now I’m going to use a b450 ds3h v2 and going to control rgb off of the led cpu port on the board
@earnest olive so i maximized the mounting pressure with shorter standoffs than the ones arctic gave me
still thermal throtlting (according to HWINFO64)
at this point i think we can narrow it down to a coldplate based problem
I will assume you didn't do what I did by applying thermal paste and leaving the peel on the coldplate. Don't try to watch the NFL playoffs and install aios.
Got it, only watch NBA playoffs and install aios
So
My partners psu is top mounted, they don't think there's any extra cables connected to it
No extra cables came with the psu
Is it possible for the extra cables to be tucked somewhere up top?
Need just a single 6 pin cable
i just finished my build and i can't get it to post. everything powers up. I've reseated the memory and went through the connections. I have noticed the usb's are not powering the keyboard or mouse. Any ideas? everything is new but the motherboard
those aren't lighting up either. Z590 plus, i511400 vengence LPX DDR4 16GB
at this point i'm thinking bad motherboard?
you have the 8 pin eps power plugged in?
yes
asus
Ok, and you're saying the debug LEDs don't come on at all?
nope. not even at power up
Check the motherboard for bent pins under the CPU
did that as well and dont see any bent
You said the board is used right? Have you cleared the CMOS?
board is used and i did clear the cmos
Is that the regular 11400 or the 11400F?
regular
Take out the GPU and SSD and see if that changes anything
You can plug the monitor into the mobo
samething
Yeah that's probably a bad board
ya i was afraid of that. Just hope it didn't mess anything else up!
hey guys i need some help, just built a new pc downloaded all the drivers but i still cannot hear anything and mic isnt wokring on discord
Are you using the onboard audio for headphones and mic?
if you are referring to plugging it into the motherboard then yet
yes
not too sure if thats what you meant
back
Are the plugs in the right spots? There's usually 6 and manufacturers don't always standardize or color code
my board only has 3 and Im still not sure if they are correctly plugged in tbh i had a video playing and just kept switching them until i heard something but I still cant hear
Which motherboard? I'll check your manual
asus b550m-a wifi
okay so i just found out that my headset cables are labeled for mic and headset and i see that on the audio driver software it says the green is headphone in and pink is mic but somehow i manage to get sound only when the mic jack is plugged into the audio port
and the sound only comes from one side of my headset
this is so confusing i dont know why only half of my headset has audio now
and my mic still doesnt work
The problem with onboard mic is usually you need to turn the gain up all the way
Which you can do in the sound control menu
do you think it makes sense to move my OS to a bigger SSD? I have it on a 500gb ssd
but I'm contemplating on moving it to a 2TB SSD I use
if I do this, then I can keep my music plugins and other big installs on my main system drive, and use the 500GB for something else. Not sure what.
I have a 4TB HDD for archive, 2TB SSD, 500GB SSD, 1TB HDD for misc, and a 2TB external seagate usb HDD that's slow as hell
yeah that's smart. I feel like I'm wasting space putting it on the 500 instead of the 2tb
idk, maybe it's not an issue. I feel a little bit like I don't like mixing my data, and I feel the need to 'reserve a drive for x purpose' but I guess that doesn't really need to be the case
like, I guess there's no reason I can't mix and match stuff , like some games on C, some on another
idk
I feel sorta stuck
It's only an issue if you let it be one.
It would only affect organization of files and you can make links to other drives if you need to.
yeah true
The thing I'm running into is that having my plugins on my 2tb ssd, since it's not my system, some plugins like having access to writing in the registry, resulting in issues if not installed on my system drive (500gb ssd)
so maybe I'll save the 2tb ssd for my big big big big plugins, and just keep the lighter/smaller ones on the 500gb
How big are these plugins?
keyscape, omnipshere, native instruments, all add up to 400gb or more probably
Sheesh
yeahh
keyscape and omnisphere is 77 + 60
and I think 300 from native instruments
that's the biggest of them
16gb for my orchestral library
I've never had an issue with registry specifically like that but in your case maybe it would work better on a bigger drive if that's the problem
and then, for my music projects, including project files, mp3s, stems, etc.,, adds up to probably 200gb
I mean, been a while since I checked but you get the idea
yeah, it just becomes a hassle because some DAWs like fl studio allow you to have multiple paths
but ableton only allows one plugin folder
that's the issue
there's a tool out there to create symbolic links so I might try that
so I can have some on both drives
the other idea I had is just uninstalling all my plugins and starting from scratch
the drawback is that it'd be annoying to reinstall them if I have a project I want to go back to
but honestly, is what it is
I been hurting for a "factory reset" sort of thing, because it's become such a mess in my mind
and well, could be all in my mind truthfully
music plugins just install themselves all in weird places. There's no standard.
I heard a story where one was installed in a folder "stienberg" instead of "steinberg" so the user had 2 different folders
Would this be a good pc for 1080p or 1440p gaming and maybe some light video editing https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/RKdF8r
What's your total budget and you forgot a gpu
My total budget is 1800 to 2000 AUD, and ye, i forgot to specify that idk what GPU to get
Cool 1 sec
@junior crescent i would do this
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/nxQRTn
@potent portal if I verified that the problem isn’t the mounting pressure
And that’s it’s not the radiator cooling
Does that mean the problem is the copper coldplate itself?
@orchid ruin almost thought that was a p400a lol nice looking build
Anyone know much a pc cleaning may roughly cost? Im trying to get a mint clean bc im not meticulous enough to do it myself
A good spray out is usually good enough right?
PC cleaning is basically free
Im lazy lol
Nice my PC won't post
Whyd I have to combine the two most garbage ram kits in my daily system bruh
Shoulda just used the ballistix oh wait
cries
Speaking of, the 32GB 3200c16 (ballistix) recently went from $113 to $130.
it only gets worse from here
unless random warehouses find misplaced stashes of ballistix
I'm checking Ebay as well. I found a listing w/ a typo so I might get a 16GB kit of it for $50even+tax. There's also various 32GB kits for $110ish still, I just like the 5% back from amazon at least. Also, I finally bought a cpu for the 500 series mobo I've had: 11700F
- I'm literally doubling cpu cores/thread again. E8400 to 3550/"3770" to 11gen, lol. Not really any bigger upgrade unless people went 2/3gen to 12gen.
rip ballistix
you will be missed
this question does not belong in #building-and-recc-chat
thanks :)
there is a chance they are bad bims as well lol
ram prices have gine up a bit
and ballistix are dicontinuod :(
definetyl spelt that wrong
Is ok
Thanks lol auto correct was not working on ipad for some reason
How much do you reckon my b450 ds3h would MELT with a 5700x
Box has a really good deal on their ebay... Would probs work to about 250€ for me after import tax
About 3
Hmmmm I'm actually trying to see tho like might be worth it then snag a decent b550/x570 used/cheapish one new
Also are there any 5700x reviews yet?
No like how bad because very cheap 5700x rn
It SHOULD be fine
if u keep pbo off
is gone :(
Won't you need a new cooler?
Since don't you have the 224xt atm?
nope i ordered a d15s from ebay a couple weeks ago - it arrived bent and i got a refund for it but was able to bend it back... i would just need to buy an am4 mounting kit for it
Nice
oh noot
It was 1000% a pricing error they have 5600 non x up for the same price now dammit I didn't get cuz I didn't know how much the diff between 5700x and 5800x was :(
F
das no good

Reeeeeeeeeeee haxor
Seems ABS support is now refusing to return my calls now that I've said the PC is fixed and I just want a refund for the bad PSU like I was originally offered instead of a replacement because I wanted to upgrade....
So what happens if I have another issue with the PC they just won't return my calls?
try talking to support via chat like dm @fresh garden or maybe try newegg chat support on their site
I will try that if I don't get a call back soon. Originally they were returning my calls within the next day at the latest
Gonna stink if I can't get that refund seeing as how I went out and bought a way nicer PSU already... Only after confirming that was an option with them. As originally I asked if they could send me a nicer replacement and I'd pay the price difference. They said no but could do a refund
Also kinda curious why my LEDs came wired in a way to where the front 3 case fans were controlled by a button on the case. Then the CPU RGB was plugged into Mobo and totally separate. Couldn't sync them... Moved cpu RGB to the RGB controller where case fans were, then figured out how to turn the button off and allow me to control it all thru Asus Aura sync software.
My build looks sooooo much nicer now. The original PSU had red and yellow wires etc. The 24 pin was all sorts of diff colors. New PSU is all black and then with LeDs synced up it looks like a new build almost lol
Not impressive to you experienced builders, but putting a new PSU in, and then fixing the RGB was quite the feat for me as a beginner. I'm so stoked with how it looks now
Curious, I want to get some RGB to do backlit monitors or whatever you'd call it. Do you just wire them to the RGB controller or how does that stuff work.
Id also like to get the keyboard and mouse RGB synced with PC
Hey I want to put a 1050ti in my optiplex 790 but would I need to invest into a new PSU as well?
Possibly
oh god dell website is defaulting to italian bc i'm on vacation
it has a 240w psu
you'll be fine
no need to get a new one
@steel fox
Thank you friend
If a monitor has rgb it's usually controlled through the USB connection
If you get a rgb strip to attach to the wall or back of the monitor you can control it from the rgb controller.
You can often use openrgb or signalrgb to get stuff from different brands to sync
Honestly RGB Is just overrated and overpriced
But it does add like 10% perf
Only if you set it to red, everyone knows that's the fastest color
obviously its white
but that takes the most power
No white is for stability. It'll never crash if it's set to white.
red is the best
Blue is for the cool kids
And old men that want to feel young
set it to black
Nah the monitor itself has nothing. So yea it's be an RGB strip I need
So I can just attach it to controller on PC perfect.
What should I use to monitor performance of my PC? Want to make sure stuffs working right. Curious at what point my GPU fans come on lol
For super simple, afterburner with rivatuner is nice
It has an overlay that's fairly easy to set up
If you want a bit more in depth, hwinfo64 is great
Not familiar with simple or indepth lol
Probably first need to learn how to monitor performance
Do GPU fans not come on often unless you're actually gaming or?
Depends on gpu
Modern ones will usually only come on during high usage like games and stuff
Gotcha.
You think I could get the gamdias keeb and mouse that came with the prebuilt to sync with the PC RGB that way?
No
I don’t think open rgb or signal rgb support gamdias yet
gamdias isn’t that large scale
sadly
Ima be painfully blunt
Pretty terrible
What's the budget for the build?
@desert void
Ohh that's all in cad
i was thinking maybe gg 5600x or 11400f
Are you gaming?
Kk
Here you go https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/p38z78
Could prolly save a bit with a cheaper case
Bit 4000d airflow got good airflow
Could also get that p360a from newegg
Also a good case
Np
11400 < 5600x < 12400
lol
Oh damn, gpu went oos
One sec
Next cheapest 3060 ti https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/VcN2Vw
idk about sea of thieves but valorant and genshin run great on integrated graphics
Sea of theives would want a dgpu
