Oh okay. Well, the one I was really looking at Radeon 6600xt at around $600, but he said it was too high.
you can look at a 6500xt when it's at msrp of $200, but even then there are generally better used options
$600 is a bit steep
try r/hardwareswap
decent
It is closer to the price I actual want it to be.
actually*
welp, it is out of stock now
Well, I found another one near $450
mmm, any recommended pre-built PCs?
Abs systems are nice
I like to keep my options open.
but thanks.
I heard about Apex Gaming's prebuilt PCs through a video ad. Are they any good?
Meh
Their quality may be decent but their value is horrendous
@earnest olive check this out lol
That 1256 gets you a 3100 on a a320
And no complimentary peripherals or anything
That's pretty damn bad value
what the hell
that's not in any way bang for your buck
it's more like, bang for your entire wallet
poof for your buck
So basically they are ripping people off
gotcha.
I forgot where I saw that ad. It was one of those gaming channels on YouTube.
Apex pcs are terrible
I tried telling people in the comments of someone sponsored by them that
They wouldn't listen even after I linked other pcs lol
Just "I can't build it myself" even tho im linking pre builts
lol what?
Theyre aimed to take advantage of people who've no clue anything about pcs and literal children
Terrible marketing strategy, but it gets them their money I guess...
Why wasn't that guy listen to your recommendations? I mean if I find a PC that has same or better specs than Apex, I ain't gonna buy it from Apex.
for a better price
but I have seen a lot of ABS builts on Newegg tho
My guess is it was a child
Probs
It was a minecraft youtuber, so it would make sense
About half a year ago I think
Smthn like that
Apex PCs are the greatest, the apex of garbage 🤓
🤣
"attractive price"
they're delusional
LOL
my god
worse than the wanna-be businessmen pedaling their bottom of the barrel sandybridge xeon machines on ebay
exactly
gotta love how they literally have athlons in these systems
for $1k+ thats delusional
but why tho
server?
workstation?
a $35 a520?
I think he is going to use it for a server. He has like 10 tb bay he is putting with it
hope he doesn't use much cpu load lol
that mobo is gonna have fun
ehh maybe it'll be ok with downdraft cooler
3600cl16 is better than 4000cl18 plus you'll be able to run it in 1t instead of 2t, and it's 7$ cheaper, asrock 12th gen is decent budget options from what I've seen
Plus the sub timings are 22 22 42 so it's not like it's actually significantly better
cut the case cost and spend it on a cooler
and if hes using it for server and running linux, cut off the ssd for better motherboard
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CqnxY9
For 10$ more
I'm guessing out of question as manual price mean prob already bought, I'm guessing 2nd hand
Fair but those be the changes id make if possible ya know
Ofc ofc
Nothing was bought it was a deal I found
700W psu enough for a 3070 OC, i9 10850k, 32gb 3600mhz ram?
Yea
Cleared CMOS now boot and VGA light up, what's the issue?
Monitors receive no signal
Lots of possibilities, pointing to gpu atm
Might want to check 24pin and reseat gpu
Reconnected pins nothing changed
Have had issues in the past of monitors randomly disconnecting, so gpu has been bugging
Possibly faulty GPU?
Should I contact for replacement
possible but might as well go through a bit more random troubleshooting and see if it helps
take out all ram sticks other than a stick in slot 2, just clear cmos with jumper to make it go quickly, and see if that helps
Thx
@runic flare make sure all the power connectors are connected and i would try boot with the gpu out of the pc as well using the igpu to make sure it is/is not the gpu
Ohh well then I'd do this
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tmKzMb
Personally I'd spend the extra 15$ for a 500gb ssd
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Brvqqs/team-mp33-512-gb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-tm8fp6512g0c101
Why a 130$ case
Ohh ffs amazon being weird didn't see that
It was 39 this morning idk if Amazon being weird or pcpp being weird
Fixed
That makes more sense lol
As a focus g owner, sad, could just get mx330
Pa 120 no fit tho
Otherwise would have
Sad, but maybe v5
But for a 5700g I'd go pa120/fs140 :/
Fractal g sad
How that bad?
Just sad to use
Not great airflow, front dust filter is thicc as heck
Everything feels tight
Drive cages annoying
Front io cluster is annoying (barely reaches)
Fan mounting is really weird
It's just sad times, usable, but annoying
I bought some 140mm fans that used centered 120mm mounting, didn't fit the holes, is mounted sideways with a hole through the focus g
I bought some p14s, didn't fit mounting holes on the front
P14 didn't fit mounting holes on the bottom either, with removed drive cage, it was just sad
I've put many holes into the mesh on each side of the focus g
And many zipties to fit the fans
Rip
@fossil cedar you can see how my top fans are slanted so they fit one hole
hey guys, i want to ask you for advice.
i am looking at two laptops, asus tuf 1650 i5 9300 8 gb ram and 500 gb ssd
and the msi gf63 it 10300 1650 8 gigs of ram and 256 gb ssd
which one would you recommend
i5*
What country, price budget and use is there for the laptop?
lebanon, around $750, and I'm a CS student
soooo
I am kinda lost
please help me 😦
@fossil cedar
Hmm, where can you buy from in Lebanon?
my budget only fits these two options or something similar to them. if you were to choose between them, which one would you choose and why?
Is there no options with 16gb ram? :(
If those 2 are the only options, 10300 + 1650
No problem
What parts should i get budget 1.7k-2k white or red theme.
Going for a specific theme tends to limit options, increasing the price
I'd put a list together but I'm clocking into work in 5min
What do I need to look for in:
Motherboards
Liquid cooling systems for cpus
Cases
Mobo is a bit hard to say, I'll list list features, but they're complicated
Mobo:
VRMs, IO, Debug LEDs, post code
AIO:
Performance
Case:
Performance, Cooler support (Top mount radiator if possible, front mount, and air cooler height), hardware support (mainly drive cages)
What’s a good brand to start with for mobos
don't go by brand

every brand makes good and trash boards

Well, idk where to start and what I should be looking for
for what CPU
Give us the budget and pato will tell u what parts to buy
thanks for the nomination
Hey its 3 am im going to sleep also ur good
lol
lmao
seems like I have to take back my position

Have you considered getting good?
no, what's that
lol
pato where da link in #tech-deals
nice
This is why hes only the pcpp techie
GPUs staying in stock for longer = time to make standardized pcpp lists
i7
9700k 10700k 11700k 12700k?
3 different platforms across 4 generations, just Intel things...
Bruh

I’m only asking because I made a custom build online for $2800 with a 3080 ti and it felt too good to be true
ehh you would be skimping out on other stuff tbf maybe like 2.3-2.3k
Pretty sure 800$ can get you 12600k build w no GPU, I can slap a list together though
hmm yeah possibly
Had to cut down a bit on Mobo and ram, but definitely doable, and you can get better ram if you drop down to 12400
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DpPPsL
Oh and it doesn't include the 5$ brackets from Amazon
doable but very cutdown ye
I'd call that a good build other than the ram :p
Need 80$ more and you can slap in 2x16 3600c16
Yeah
But it does work for 800$
Btw b660 prime atx is exact same price
Being lazy because mobile
Smh most of my pcpp is mobile
Smh I usually take time when I'm on laptop
filters are such a W on desktop
or laptop
it’s so hard to sort results on mobile quickly
Yea
Here’s the one I put together
Ouch the 3080 ti price
Also 80+ rating has nothing to do woth quality
Also that aio id meh at best btw def not enough for a 12700k
wow 4 free case fans
🙄
at that point just get a prebuilt off newegg
thats basically all that is
It won’t even let me change the aio
Yeah prebuilt is probably better
I can always upgrade it later, right?
ordering the parts yourself is the better option
It says the cooler isn't compatible with the mb or cpu?
Or does it just need a new bracket?
you can get a 6900xt for 1500 rn
then the rest of the parts considerably cheaper
also i doubt you even need a 12700k
12600 would be enough
What real benefit does the 12th gen i7 have over the i5 when gaming?
none
In what cases would I really need an i7?
unless you playing a game that goes absolutley ham with threads
which i think theres like 3 or 4 that do
Ok.
I was just butting into your convo, because I currently have the i7 in my cart
yeah its kinda a bit much for gaming in general
I would like to get into software development. Would that benefit having an i7 over i5?
you get the additional boost clock speed, but its not a whole lot more
Oh my god I put in the filters and all of the desktops are at least $4000
running an IDE takes hardly any processing power
Ok
unless you think youre gonna be nonstop, constantly compiling C
I think what pushed me to the i7 was that I wanted to play 2 games at once.
Idr now. I've been researching so much about pc and building that some of what I looked at is now jumbled mess in my brain lol
And there’s so many of these veltstorm ones
I can probably find cheaper ones on best buy
Soo
With best buy. That was the route I was going with, but
I decided it was only $500 more to build my own pc with none of the issues best buy pcs have
just buy the parts yourself tbh, its not super complicated
Plus like 2 or 3x better gpu/cpu
R7 5600? And 3060 ti was going to cost $2k. Build my own with 12 gen i7 and 6900 xt will cost me 2.5k
Plus i get adequate airflow and cooling.
Which is the issues with almost all the best buy prebuilts.
Plus their software issues.
it takes a bracket
Gotcha.
MSI Aegis RS (Tower) Gaming Desktop, Intel Core i7-12700K, GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB Memory (Dual-CHL), 1TB SSD + 2TB HDD, WiFi 6E, Liquid Cooling, USB Type-C, VR-Ready, Win11H (12TE-257US) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MSL5B7G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_AZMZ343A3ME0A4PYTQKD
Is this a good one?
I would recommend abs or Hp prebuilts
The ABS on newegg were really expensive
Damn
Other than the cpus it seems nice
Huh? Those CPUs are some of the best out there rn
should i get a rtx 3080 or a 6900xt?
Hmmm
I though that the Ryzens didn’t perform as well as the Intel ones
depends on price
Rn Intel 12th gen is beating out 5000 series because it basically is brand new, but 5000 series Ryzen is still really damn good
I apologize for all of this
This is my first time building a gaming pc so I don’t know what I should pick
Under 3000 is optimal but I’m willing to go up
I still think the msi one I linked is nice
I think it’s upgradeable
I’d go for this https://www.newegg.com/abs-ali590/p/N82E16883360225
Basically the same as the MSI one you linked except $900 cheaper
Only has 16gb of ram but you can always add more if you feel like you need it
And only 1TB of storage but like the ram, you can always add more for pretty cheap
As in 2Tb HDD for ~$50
Other than the gpu it seems fine
I really want a 3080 or 3080 ti
Ahh I missed that, thought it was a 3080
There’s this https://www.newegg.com/abs-ali595/p/N82E16883360230
Personally I trust ABS a lot more than MSI with prebuilts
Also with this one you get a bit more airflow than the MSI one
That one is a bit more expensive but it seems nice
I like it
the cpu is plenty for a 3080, even if playing at 1080p (why would you with a 3080)
abs tends to have much better build quality than other pre built companies in the same price range
Yeah I would play at 2k with the 3080
also the ABS one has better ram
both more and better ram
power supply is unnamed in the msi build as far as i can tell
as well as the motherboard
I put the second one in my cart
So I just copped a 12400 from microcenter but that used majority of my cash rn does anyone have any like suggested mobos that are decent and won't break the bank
12400 draws like no power
so you can realistically get the cheapest b660 you can find
theres an asrock board on newegg for 95
Where cuz Newegg has it at like 185
i basically want a 12105 with 4p cores and 2 e cores
Thx (and thx to the other dude
so its performance doesnt tank
E-cores come in clusters of 4
Without a major topology change to rearrange the die, it's required
They've got it so 4 of them fit in the space the normal cores take
I suppose you could put 4 and fuse off 2 but the yields on those e-cores is pretty decent so not much point
It would come down to frequency and cache, but that would be a weird layout with basically a 3 core design (but one core split into 4)
right, didnt think about that
3p and 4e should be possible
thatd be a weird cpu itself, ignoring layout lol
Right, and that's probably why they haven't done these layouts. The ones they have are pretty logical.
@fading elbow https://youtu.be/TpTrrIsMGXU
The MSI Aegis R pre-built PC is one of the worst systems we've ever looked at. It's impressive how MSI combined software and hardware incompetence to create this abomination.
Sponsor: Buy Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste on Amazon (https://geni.us/JMVNtOE) or Hydronaut paste for water cooling (Amazon - https://geni.us/Fsray)
Watch our pre-built ...
I already picked the second one you sent
But thanks for the extra info
is this good? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rXyjcb
unless youre deadset on the ram, id change it to 3600c16 g.skill ripjaws for cheaper
other than that it looks fine
Bios and Device Manger recognizes my new 970 Evo Plus but I can't find it as a storage device. Google hasn't helped much
Anyone might know what's going on? I imagine it's something simple but idk. The m.2 drivers in the device manager are up to date.
@potent portal Just curious on your thoughts about this build? I’m positive this is what I’d like just curious about windows 11 and GPU now that it’s outta stock
Or anyones opinion built for trading and big programs running
You have to initialize the drive in disk management
Do you need NVIDIA features like dlss or nvenc?
You have to initialize it in disk management
It doesn't automatically do it
Due to me not know what that means ima say no. Goal no lag super speed running 4 monitors
Ok I’ll make some recommendations
Okay thank you just running 4 monitors I will be running discord audio zoom video and 3-4 trading programs that needs TONS of data to run at least that’s what I’m told.
Tryna stay within the same budget but still get 6-8 GB
I’d go for a 3070 or something like that then at minimum 32Gb of ram
See I get told the most I’ll need is 16GB and others are like 64 is way too much. Lol I’m not the best when it comes to builds I literally learned what I know in a week if that explains anything. Made that build. Does having too much ram slow down the computer?
Nah it’s fine. Not the best but it will do the job.
I like liquid freezer
but performs like one of the best
Just getting a starting point
What’s AIO ENERMAX?
Your Newegg build didn’t have a cpu cooler
Oh NVM I over looked it
Yeah cause the case has 4 fans in it I didn’t think I would need more
You have to have a cooler for the cpu
3 in the front and 1 in the back
Oh! See glad you are all here cause I in a sense have no clue
Also ryzen and intel preferred choice or prove. Facts as far as speed?
Proven*
As of today 12th gen intel is king on almost everything
Intel has as good or better performance and better price
If you decide to go AMD you’ll have a headache with DDR 4000
Nothing needs over DDR4 3600
Is this ram OCable?
I mean like is it good ram to OC?
Gotcha the 4000 I thought helped with speed so I was like okay I’ll take another 400 from the 3600
It can, however it’s a very long explanation of why it’s counter productive unless you want to spend hours tweaking RAM
For DDR4, 3600 is the sweet spot for price and performance
Ohhh it’s not plug and play? I was going to spend the money to have Newegg assemble it cause I don’t wanna break anything lol never done this before
Also I heard of overclocking stuff I don’t plan on it unless it’s a must cause well, I don’t know how to do it lol
Youtube video builds about your MB/case/cooler if any. It's actually really simple.
No, RAM above 2133(JDEC) is overclocked. You have to enable XMP/DOCP in bios. AMD RAM speed is directly tied to its FCLK(infinity fabric). The infinity fabric has a limit of how fast it can go. Once it gets above a certain point it’s unstable OR goes from 1:1 to 1:2 ratio actually reducing performance
There are some good youtubers out there who explain the process thoroughly.
I was having a bit of anxiety about putting one together, but after watching even 1 vid, that anxiety went away.
Okay sweet
They're right though, if you have an amd processor 3600 is the sweet spot, preferably c16
Theres many jdec standards btw
Yes, but typically without enabling xmp it’s going to be 2133
It depends heavily on what sticks they are. Mine default to 2933.
Interesting, learned something new
Mine default to 2933
I have sticks that default to 3200
Quick question. Can I plug my USB3.0 CABLE INTO THE JUSB4 port and it run my 3.0usb port?
@minor garnet if you wanna ask questions ask here, #tech-deals is only for posting tech deals
You can only plus a usb 3 header cable into a usb 3 port, they have different pin layouts
is 200 usd for a 5600x a decent deal?
Yeah
dang im tired, i read the "usd" as used
any potential problem with using a fan splitter cable on the CPU header?
one would be the cooler the other would be case exhaust
That's fine, they'd just be tied, personally I'd just split the chasis fan header tho
can somone give me some advice ive got a i5 114500 cpu and just got my motherboard its a gigibyte b460m it supports 10th gen intel how do i flash my bios ive never had to do it
Is it 11400 or 11500?
11400
Look at the rear I/O and see if there is a flash bios labeled USB slot
There is a chance that the motherboard had its bios already updated at the factory
Like my B550i supported my 5900x without needing to flash bios, even though the motherboard was made for 3000 series ryzen
is there a way i can tell im pulling a alot of part from my current build over to the new one and dont wanna take it back apart to download the bios
Find the exact model number and what version the bios is from factory (usually on the box) and I can tell you
B460M DS3H AC
Nah that works
i dont have the original box its just in a genaric box from my local pc shop it was on clearance since they didnt have to box
ive sent the new bat file for updates in #windows-ios btw
i appreciate the help this is the first time ive built a system by buddy always did it for me on my previous builds
Depending on which version number you have on the board, it may or may not support 11th gen at all
also can i flash from my ssd i cant find my flash drive ill run and get one if i need to
damn how can i tell from just the motherboard
usually is something printed on that says
Below the pci slot, where it says B460M DS3H V2
If it's V2 it does, if it doesn't say then it doesn't
yes
Reason: Bad word usage
The official list of supported cpu
thanks man ill go swap it out
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tK4KZw feel free to make edits i kinda want to build a new pc but i also dont wanna spend to much
What parts do you have atm?
I havent bought anything
Ahh okay it sounded like you already had a pc, what's your budget?
1.5-1.7k
I think what i picked was decent but could use improvement
From someone who knows more than me
Do you plan on ocing the cpu?
Imo https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FH2tJM
If you want the 12600k, then get a liquid freezer 360 (only like 3$ more than the 280), and im unsure on a heatsink for the 12400f
And whatever gpu you can find for a decent price
@fleet pagoda https://pcpartpicker.com/list/D9rzMb
That case tho
Nice price
I second what pato sent lol
Maybe add rhe x400 if you want more storage, I threw it in since you originally had 2tb ssd
No point going 240hz unless you wanna play valorant/csgo at very high level imo
Wait is that heatsink enough for a 12600k? I thought it needed an aio
I want to play valorant mostly i was plat last time i played
Ty guys
Im gonna try to buy the gpu first probably gonna try to get a 60ti fe
It's pretty decent cooler and not optimal but any extra money should go straight into better gpu/save in pocket
I have a question for whomever is able to answer
I am getting an RX 6600 brand new this Friday and was wondering with S.A.M. active with my 5600x cpu what performance should I expect? (Also idk if this is the right spot to ask tbh)
Whatever better than a 1050ti
Basically nothing crazy just an upgrade from what I have
You will see an uplift for sure coming from that
Can someone help me out? Trying to build my own pc for the first time.
My buddy had a 1060 and I convinced him to finally upgrade to a 6600xt and he was blown away except he’s on a Ryzen 5 3600 cpu
What’s up buttercup?
Sadly no 6600xt available at my microcenter but I just need an upgrade so thank you
Ah I was able to help him purchase one from a shop local to me and they shipped it to him
I should be fine with the 6600 I'm not in a hurry to go crazy just get what I can
No absolutely man it’ll definitely be a good upgrade for you! All that really matters is that you are happy with your build, ya know?
Trying to make sure everything I picked out will work well together. I'm on a 1060 build and I ordered a pre-built from a company that may no longer be around much longer so deciding to do it on my own.
What did you get?
Or what did you pick out?
GeForce RTX 3060
Corsair 5000D Airflow
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
ASUS ROG Strix B550-XE
Rosewill PMG750 80 Plus Gold Certified 750W
SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 500GB
SAMSUNG 980 M.2 2280 1TB
CORSAIR Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB
Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
Corsair LL Series CO-9050072-WW LL120 RGB
Corsair Hydro Series, iCUE H100i ELITE CAPELLIX
All looks good to me but you need to make sure your motherboard supports two m.2 drives. I’ve seen people have issues where it’ll only register that one is installed
If you’re going everything Corsair why not go for a Corsair power supply?
2 x M.2 Sockets
1 x M.2 2242-22110 supports PCIe 4.0 x4 & SATA modes
1 x M.2 2242-22110 supports PCIe 3.0 x4 & SATA mode
Thats what it says on their website
I didn't even think of that, I'll check them out now
Could I get rid of the second SSD and use a HD for slower storage?
You can still get an SSD just don’t do a m.2 drive
5600x is rlly good that's all I can add. I like it and would recommend it in a heartbeat
Thanks, I'm having a hard time with the m.2 thing it looks like they're all m.2. Would you recommend one m.2 500gb os drive and maybe a 1tb ssd or hard drive for storage?
Do one m.2 and a SSD
it does have two m.2 sockets
if you can afford it and you have good reason to have your mass storage drive to be extremely fast, get both m.2 drives
personally I would go for a 1tb m.2 boot drive and a 2tb hard drive for mass storage
scale up the HDD as you see fit
Samsung drives are usually overpriced, I'd go for something like an Sn550, MP34, Pilot E, Sn750
Or, you could go for basically the best gen 3 m.2 drive out there, which is the sk hynix p31 gold
For AIO i'd go for an arctic freezer II 120mm
one of my external HDDs has a white LED on it and its blinking
the hard drive has also been acting weird lately and not showing up in windows but its not making any clicking noises
if i unplug it and plug it back in it works for a little then it just ejects itself
I cut the tabs down (not off) on I/O shield
they were annoying the hell outta me
after that the board installed perfectly lol
I wish all mobos would just integrate them
have you checked the drive health?
it could be dying
Drive health was good
i checked yesterday in crystal disk mark
that’s the first thing i troubleshooted and the disk spins fine
no extra noises
i suspect it’s the USB controller
Just got a Seagate 4TB HDD and 2x16gb sticks
All I need left is CPU, Motherboard, and GPU
Will a 3070ti fe run okay with a 10400f?
Don't tempt me (jk(. Will have the e3-1240 installed on Friday.
Anyone know what a whea_uncorrectable_error is?
what cpu and what speed were u running ram at
Not good
No?
Yeah, not good, what cpu and ram/speed you running?
pretty sure it's a hardware error detection thing built into windows
I7-11H
32GB 3200mhz
11800h?
Believe so yes
It's a laptop
RAM isn't OCed
And it's the stock ram that came with the laptop
Idk brand off the top of my head
did u add more ram?
Nope
I didn't touch the ram
All I did was buy it without a hard drive and then I added in a 1tb gen 4 wd black NVMe. I've had it for a little over a year now
well if it bsods with the same code more times then we can see
run the .bat file pinned in #windows-ios
How can I run that if windows won't load?
press [1] on keyboard after launching it
shoulda told us it doesnt boot lol
thought it was a crash and then restart
like a normal bsod
I even said I get an error code lmao
so does a normal bsod
Yes
Yeah but usually you can boot up after
I went to start up repair and got the code
It restarted it happens again and again and again
Could I try system restore?
i mean u can but this is just gonna happen again
I'm calling windows support and they're saying I need to reinstall windows lol
because u are going to need to
I just wanna grab my windows key lmao
Can you answer our questions please?
Yes there's two sticks
ok take one out
There's no OEM key tho
How?
Yes
ok u can recover ur key that way after reinstall
btw was ur pc crashing before this?
or is this the first crash
hmm just format the drive and reinstall windows then
id run a memory stress test after tho
like after windows is reinstalled
run tm5 extreme anta
I tried system restore and there's no OS apparently to restore
Rip
Time to grab my thumb drive
It boots now, I have no idea what I did, but I'm logged in
run the bat file in #windows-ios
sfc and dism scan
the file attached to the only pinned message has a .bat extension
so it ends with .bat
Ahh I see it now
Also, my bad, it's a single 16GB stick
Looks like a generic stick
It's a Forza 16GB 3200 cl22 RAM stick
Oh man cl22
That's actually average for laptop
Fastest for laptop is cl18
While staying 3200mhz anyways
Idk about faster
There's faster, but i didnt know you were on a laptop lol
I said it here
yea i wasnt gonna scroll up that much
🤷♂️
@little osprey where is your exhaust fan?
so i'm pretty new to the world of PC building. the only real upgrades i've given my desktop and laptop are extra ram sticks. so i just want to know how to tell if parts are compatible with each other?
Easiest way is PCPartPicker.com @fair socket
thanks for the link 😁
similar question though. how can i tell what's compatible with what i already got? because this AMD software is saying my desktop's cpu needs an upgrade
(my desktop i got from Best Buy in 2018)
Probably a bios/firmware update
really? how does that work?
Should be part of your AMD software if you have a AMD CPU
Unless you're trying to compare specs of a game to what you have currently
In which case you would need to buy a new CPU
And thermal paste
ignore the amd upgrade advisor
its bad on the best of days
pu whatever parts u have into https://pcpartpicker.com/list/
and share it here
ill take a look
that so? i honestly had a hunch but didn't know enough lol
its telling me my cpu doesnt meet even the minimum spec for csgo
I have a 3600x
lol
wow
might have to get back to you later on that
gotta get ready for work
wait..
i know the motherboard is a B350M Bazooka
(thank you glass casing)
What’s the difference between atx power supply and sfx? the o11d mini I’m getting only uses sfx
Oh, so atx is not compatible
ye
Alright, looking at that part picker site and fiddling around with it. I think I have more options than I thought
Granted I'm only going off the motherboard as it's the only part of my desktop I know
Well, b350 is a bit sad, won't be able to slap in any current gen CPUs
speaking of which, asrock b660 boards suck
look at hwunboxed vid
oof
So I should probably upgrade the motherboard too?
Secondly, could I possibly keep the current case?
The case?
Well now that I know that AMD software lies I'm not in that much of a rush anymore lmao
I should probably start saving though
I don't want to break the bank
You know what, when I get home from work I may as well list off all the parts of the desktop
Bios is how I find that out right?
Would be cooler if you use pcpartpicker to build your current pc and then link it here so people can help you find upgrades.
Would be easier on them as well.
I don't know what other parts I have outside of the motherboard
I think hwinfo can tell you
Ok, I'll try it when I get home from the office
Oh lol I meant I was gonna use that site to list them off. I should have been more specific. My bad
Hi i have an issue with one of my case fans
my other case fans run fine but they’re 80mm
but the 120mm one kind of like stutters every 3 seconds but never like fully starts spinning
Maybe there isn’t enough voltage being supplied
Have you tried plugging it into a different header?
Yeah
there’s only two headers to try from as well which is a rip
One is CPU and one is for case fans
what is the price difference between a 3050 and a 3060
if it's too expensive, which it always is, i'll just go with a 3050
Are you talking market price or msrp?
market
Looking at ebay you can expect to pay $350 for a 3050 or $550 for a 3060
@limber oyster what's custom about the laptop?
replaced ssd😂😂😂
😔
DIY gpu
I'm going to make my laptop a custom laptop by putting a sticker on the mobo
you gonna buy it?
Yes. I am going to do whatever it takes to buy your laptop with the very special sticker on it
nice
Lol
no u
3060ti for 630 usd any good?
not bad
Reason: Bad word usage
Meh
630 is mid price
10-4
It's very meh when antonline bundles exist
yeah I just convert to usd since most people here are from the US
That’s a good price for canada
I'll probably grab it if it's still available later
not sure how much longer that'll be though
3060 ti at 630 cad is great
will XMrig work on an xbox one
not 630 cad
even if it works it will make cents. i dont know why you are so deadset on this
i know this isn't crypto chat, but i jut want someone to know how so we can talk about it in the right chat
the gpu is equivelant to a gt 750
it's better than an intel pentium
look at crypto profits of mining with that
0 profit. why?
Pentium is a brand, not a model (for 10+ years)
If you want money crypto isn’t the way to go for you
Trust me
I have a capable gaming pc and i still don’t think it’s profitable
Took 3 months to get $50
Pentiums aren't even on the nicehash calculator lmao
No point of even trying 😂
If you can barely hit like 2.3ghz
Actually my pentium is hitting 2.61ghz rn
what about a 12400
or a 5600G
cpu mining isnt profitable at all
especially intel cpus
12900k makes 4.5$ a month after electricity
3995wx makes around 1.5 a day iirc
or maybe 3990wx
because of the way intel cache works doesnt let it use all cores for mining
Uses so much power for minimal profit
and throws off a lot of heat
Choking your gpu if you have one
10300 makes -0.14
12400 is too new for the calculator
Great conclusion
-0.14 for even a 10300
Mind looking up 9400f while you’re at it?
Well, as we know mining is much more useful on gpu, just for some reason somebody had a wack general statement of xbox one beating a pentium. Power is expensive here. I wouldn't even bother if I had a 3070 to mine with.
🤦🏻♂️
3060 ti fhr is making like 70$ a month rn
let alone a 12400 lol
given i do use my pc for gaming ofc
75 or so for a dedicated 3060 ti fhr then
Salad ??
There isn't a single profitable Intel CPU for monero, even looking at the 12 series
The cache is what's killing Intel on RandomX algo
I was gonna use salad but i was like meh.
same
i don’t make enough to do crypto anyways, lol
A Ryzen 9 5950X can make 23 cents a day after power cost
5800X breaks even
This is all with a pretty cheap power estimate of 12 cents/KWh
so a 730 would be more profitable than CPU mining
What can you mine on a 730? I forget how much vram it has
that’s cheap?
Mines is 11¢/KWh
Yeah and mine is 10 but much of the rest of the world is a lot higher
2GB?
I don't think you can mine anything on that, not without at least 3gb and going for less profitable coins
Ravencoin requires 3gb
i have 64Mb of VRAM
someone i know mines it with a 1030 for some reason
makes like 10 cents a day
no point but whatever
not my energy being wasted
What, on your xbox?
10 cents before electricity anyways
Lol, probably using parents electricity
prolly
ETC requires 4gb, going down the list lol
dropped $20 since BTC fell
Tf is zcash 😂
That shares system memory, it's a lot more than 64mb total
If you run dxdiag you can see how much is allocated
Looks like estimates for the GT 1030 are -$0.14 per day
Guys, Quick Question — What would be the AMD equivalent of an i5-12600K + 3060ti PERFORMANCE-WISE (Not price wise)?
5800x, but unless you already have a motherboard that supports it 12600k is better value
Hmm, thank you. Can only gen 6 mobos support 12th gen?
alrighty i'm back from work
and now that i downloaded this hwinfo program i now know more about the parts i have
here it is: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MF8mzM
wait
lemme make sure i'm not missing anything
What case/ram do you have?
Put those into the part list
Also maybe your psu
Basically build you whole pc on the website.
the gpu could be salavaged
maybe case
maybe ram
maybe psu
as for the rest, it will most likely all be e waste
gpu still decent though, mid range card
sweet
do you have a budget for your upgrade?
alright how do i find psu
do you have a link to the pc you bought?
not sure how to find it. Best Buy doesn't seem to sell it anymore
tbh i doubt the psu will be salvagable, judging by the cpu itd prolly be a 500w with meh at best quality
lol
an WD HDD
youll need an ssd as part of your upgrade
do you have a budget in mind?
theres nothing about the psu but i doubt its worth keeping tbh
case is an absolute heater
if there was no budget in mind then you wouldnt care about saving parts
true
maybe the highest i'll spend is $1400. gotta save up though
what were you saying about the case again?
ah
so forgive me if this is rude, but you dont seem to know a ton about pcs so im assuming you dont care about overclocking?
you are very much right. i know very little of the hardware side of things XD
don't worry you're fine
i'm assuming overclocking is related to overheating?
ok
basically, its a way to force the parts to run at a higher frequency, to get more performance out of them. gpu ocing is relatively easy, cpu a bit more difficult and risky (unless you know what youre doing)
im asking because the motherboard is important for ocing
if not ocing you can get a much cheaper one
imo id do this and try to get a better gpu later on https://pcpartpicker.com/list/C2gd6r
oh wait
one sec
nvm thats fine
still, not great
ok
just want to say thanks for all the insight everybody
i cant really find a decent case i suck with cases lol
id wait for someone else to come whos smarter than me
This is definitely not a simple as I originally thought
Maybe I should just build a whole new pc and not worry about upgrading anything 😕
the gpu you have is fine
theres a gpu shortage rn
so id keep it till you can get a better one at a good price
Good point
I'm glad it's at least decent
Sounds like when building a pc center around the gpu
with the shortage yeah, but since you already have a mediocre one theres no reason to buy an overpriced one rn
best bet is to keep it and try for a well priced gpu in the meantime
Understood
is it possible for systems to detect that you don't have a grounded connection and refuse to power on?
seems to be what happened to me when I tried to test my new one because it worked fine when I moved it to a grounded outlet
instead of a crappy extension cord with a 3-prong adapter lol
evga warranty still covers second hand owners right?
What model? I'll check
Hi i need help with one of my case fans, it wont start spinning, it keeps trying to spin but only stutters every couple of seconds
i thought it was because i was using a Y splitter but apparently not
Spin it manually 🧠
very efficient cooling
Not unless it's an older model that's grandfathered in. According to their site,
This Limited Warranty is only valid for the Original Purchaser, is non-transferable and does not extend to any used Products or Products not purchased from EVGA.com or an Authorized Reseller.
Hey, I'm having a problem with my build
Well my friend is
She just got a 3080ti and a G5 EVGA 1000w power supply and after plugging everything back in her NZXT x53 kraken CPU cooler is havig issues
The fans turn on and spin but the logo light doesn't turn on nor does the water pump
Any ideas as to what the problem could be?
Probably a loose wire
We checked for all the connections no wires appear to be loose
What header is the breakout cable connected to
It's plugged into CPU_FAN
Ok. And the usb header and sata power are connected too?
Yes
Well the only thing I can think of is to unplug everything and plug it back in
Maybe a cmos reset
We've done both of those
alright thank you, sorry for the late reply I was at work
I would like to know what Intel Chip that i can upgrade from a Intel i7-4712MQ
i dont really think its worth it even
upgrading laptop cpus is not fun and just meh when you already have one of the better of the generation
while it isnt soldered, itd still be a pain
ill let someone else give a second opinion on it tho
nope
not worth upgrading
you're only locked to 4c/8t max anyway
the chips are also mega expensive
like they usually go 200-300 a pop
Are you trying to buy a new laptop or just upgrade the cpu?
@obsidian wigeon @south kite Thanks! I knew I had to get to that screen but was struggling to find it 😅
Is firmware same as bios update?
For mobo. Allow this pic to explain - Yes, generally you could say "update firmware" or update bios and most will understand either way. it just happens bios is sort of a mobo specific term.
It's 100% custom built
this should help me not have to sandwich-bag all my parts lol

just look at those lanes
Upgrade
You cant just upgrade the cpu in a laptop unfortunately
My CPU I can cause its not sober on MB at all
Doesn't matter anyway not worth your time or moneh even if it's not soldered
??? Why not then im not dropping $2,000 for a laptop when I can upgrade the 1 I have but ok
a better laptop than the one you have can be bough for less than half that
you can get a good PC for much less than 2000 dollars man
a FAR better laptop
whats his current laptop?
Acer
oh yea, you can definitely get a much better system for not much
I got my 8750h 1060 3gb laptop for like 600 used
I wouldnt recommend buying a used laptop though
way too much of a gamble even if you know what to look for lol
Ok so pretty much your saying to throw the 1 i have away then
I didn't say you bud but its ok im a AMD guy not Intel.. I hate intel chips I have already blow through 4 intel chips AMD I haven't
Its just that any upgrade options you have are all still something like 5 years old
And not comparable to chips today
Right so even if I got a better chip then the one I have within the 5 years won't work then
I'll put it this way
You have a 4712mq, socket is pga946
Best chip that goes into pga946 is a 4930mx
Both are completely outmatched by smth like 11600h today
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-4712MQ-vs-Intel-i7-4930MX-vs-Intel-i7-11600H/2228vs1985vs4629
4930mx also puts out much more heat
Buying the best upgrade you could get, 4930mx, is still basically e waste relative to anything decent today
so depending on the laptop it might end up throttling
and afaik 4930mx goes for 300+
yea, and those are 8 years old
yee
Ok well at least I can still do my Rams
Wouldn't be a major upgrade and I would rather just get a new laptop but you could do that if you really wanted to
Although ddr3 prices are a bit wacky, and you'll mostly have to rely on the used market
honestly if you already have 16 gigs or more there's no point
I don't I have 8
An my laptop max is 32GB
