Im getting a different case and wifi adapter though.

sand falcon
#

on it 👍

azure sable
#

does anyone know a aio with a gif screen?

#

the kraken z63 is always sold out and wanted to find another

sand falcon
#

@languid mauve that ssd is super sketch

opal stratus
sand falcon
#

PSU could be better

opal stratus
#

Does this switch need to be flipped

#

To be on

sand falcon
#

Looks on to me

languid mauve
#

The ssd is bad?

opal stratus
#

Ty

sand falcon
#

Yes

languid mauve
#

Hmm

sand falcon
#

Sata with no dram

languid mauve
#

What do you suggest?

sand falcon
#

mp34 is good for nvme

languid mauve
#

Ok

#

Yeah I heard some good things about it

sand falcon
#

ADATA XPG SX850 is good for sata

languid mauve
#

I’ll swap that in

#

NVME is faster right?

#

But a bit more expensive I assume.

sand falcon
#

The PSU could definitely be better too

languid mauve
#

Or?

#

Ok

#

I was checking out seasonic

sand falcon
#

Nvme is faster but more expensive, yeah

languid mauve
#

They make quality stuff

#

Okay

sand falcon
#

Seasonic is pretty decent for some models

languid mauve
#

What do you suggest?

sand falcon
#

Let me check what's available

languid mauve
#

Is best buy good?

#

Don’t worry about price

#

I’m going to price match

sand falcon
#

Depends. If it's in stock, it's fine

languid mauve
#

They match with amazon

#

Okay

sand falcon
#

Price matching doesn't help if all the retailers are about the same price

languid mauve
#

I guess

#

But things are cheaper on amazon or cheaper on newegg

#

It covers the net

#

Saves a bit

#

Can’t complain

sand falcon
#

True

languid mauve
#

Is 450 watts good?

#

Im also going to be using a 24” monitor

#

Mouse

#

And keyboard

#

Would 450 do fine?

sand falcon
#

You'll probably want at least 500

languid mauve
#

Hmm

languid mauve
#

You suggest bronze and 500w

#

Not gonna go for anything off wish

#

But

#

I think 70 is a bit off budget

#

Is 50 for that too good to be true?

sand falcon
#

Which one?

languid mauve
#

Seasonic S12III

#

The evga is only 63 though

#

So if it’s a must ill go for it

#

What should I go for on my monitor? HDMI?

sand falcon
#

I'd go for the evga over that seasonic, but that's just me. Get DP for your monitor if you can

languid mauve
#

For display port what do I need?

sand falcon
#

A display port cable and a monitor with a display port jack

languid mauve
#

Okay

opal stratus
#

It’s done!

languid mauve
#

What mouse do you suggest?

#

Congrats!

#

Nice paintings

opal stratus
#

Ty and ty lol

languid mauve

nah fr

#

They look nice

opal stratus
#

Very oriental

languid mauve
#

mmhmm

opal stratus
#

I like razer mamba

#

But razer is overpriced tbh, id do some research if I were you

languid mauve
#

Logitech

#

#

Ok updated build

#

Peripherals are not important rn

#

#

I actually got a deal on a razer mouse and keyboard for 20

#

Oops

#

Thoughts?

sand falcon

It's a keyboard

languid mauve

Yeah but like

#

Too good to be true for 20?

sand falcon
#

Looks good to me

opal stratus

Nice

That’s probably membrane idk I’d u care

sturdy leaf
#

Does it feel brand new

If so might be fake

sand falcon

¯_(ツ)_/¯

If it works, it works

languid mauve
#

Okay thanks guys.

#

Tommorow im going out and buying and assembling the parts for my pc.

What to do

fast dust
#

Boot into the BIOS and make sure USB booting is enabled

scarlet gazelle
#

Sorry I should’ve responded—I had it booted into BIOS

#

How do I enable usb booting?

fast dust
#

Switch tabs until you get so something that says “boot” or something

#

Sift through there and see if USB booting is enabled

#

If not, enable it

#

Then in that same tab look for your boot path, and set that to try to boot to USB first

sturdy leaf

Do u guys know how to pirate windows

scarlet gazelle

Yeah just go to Pirate Bay and download the torrent

Get BitTorrent first

plucky island

made this budget 1080p machine for my friend and recommendations?

#

the ssd will only be used as a boot drive and for one other thing

potent prairie
#

That isn't a good boot drive

#

No dram

plucky island
#

what?

potent prairie
#

DRAMless drives can be worse than hhds when full

plucky island
#

well w10 only takes abt 50gb

#

thats like 40%

potent prairie
#

Here:

#

**SSD Considerations: **
• DRAM/HMB: DRAM/HMB is basically ram on your SSD that stores metadata (google it). An SSD without DRAM can get much slower than a HHD as it fills up. HMD allows your SSD to use your system memory for this, but not all systems support it. DRAM/HMB is the pretty much the most important consideration when purchasing an SSD. DRAM >> HMB >>> DRAM-less.
• Bits per cell: SLC (1) > MLC (2) > TLC (3) > QLC (4). TLC is the norm, the more bits per cell, the less durable and fast.
• Interface: NVMe SSD > SATA SSD > HHD. NVMe drives are much faster than SATA SSDs, which are much faster than HHDs. Don't assume all M.2 SSDs are better than Serial ATA. M.2 is just the form factor, they can still be Sata drives and run slower.
• Law of Diminishing Returns: SATA SSDs with DRAM offer tangible speed improvements, but a HHD --> SATA SSD is a much bigger jump in performance than an SSD --> NVME or an NVME --> Gen 4 NVMe. Don't feel that you need to buy the newest Gen 4 NVMe, they don't offer that much more than a good Gen 3
• Brand: Don't shop for a brand, shop for the product. Some brands (AHEM Samsung) make good products but charge a premium for them.
• Speed: Faster is better, but keep in mind the Law of Diminishing Returns.

potent prairie
#

Yeah, that is another option

plucky island
#

yeh both r good budget ssd's

scarlet gazelle
#

I love M2s I just discovered them haha

potent prairie
#

M.2 doesn't mean that much

scarlet gazelle
#

Just so cool. Small and fast

plucky island
#

wait but if an ssd only writes then i'm pretty sure that it preserves it's speeds for way longer

scarlet gazelle
#

Fits right into mobo

potent prairie
#

Don't assume all M.2 SSDs are better than Serial ATA. M.2 is just the form factor, they can still be Sata drives and run slower.

#

True, but m.2 doesn't mean fast

#

M.2 drives still can be DRAMless, sata and worse than an HHD

scarlet gazelle
#

True

#

Definitely has a brighter future imo

potent prairie
#

I dunno about that mobo either, but I guess you are on a tight budget

scarlet gazelle
#

I have b450 for a ~$1100 build I think it’s a p good option as well

plucky island
#

honestly scene as he won't be doing any overclocking and just a bit of gaming I personally wouldn't worry abt the mboard

#

it has good reviews ryzen 3 ready and I trust msi

potent prairie
#

Well yeah, but A series chipset vs b series

plucky island
#

all that matters here is does it work

jagged ember
#

And for how long

plucky island
#

well yeh

potent prairie
#

Alright then, if you want to save the 20 euros no judgement

plucky island
#

ÂŁ

jagged ember
#

Eh ig it's fine

#

I'd still go for a series chipsets tho

plucky island
#

ok how long would u estimate that a board like that would last?

jagged ember
#

It should last some time if it isn't under a lot of heat all the time

#

Which it shouldn't

plucky island
#

well yeh idk how much he'll b gaming but I doubt it'll be more than 10 hours a week

#

also there is 2 case fans with on open fron pannel

#

panel*

jagged ember
#

Ig it'll be fine then

plucky island
#

oh and the exhaust that comes with the case of course

#

and on open top

jagged ember
#

It's not going to explode

plucky island
#

the cpu fan can pull air from the top and the gpu will be getting pleanty of fresh air

opal stratus
#

Do I have to set my ram to 3200 in BIOS or is it already like that?

plucky island
#

yeh you do

#

oh yay new role

opal stratus
#

Oh ok ty

plucky island
#

I still havent built my first pc yet bc my mum lost her credit card

jagged ember
#

Turn on xmp basically

#

It'll set it to 3200 by itself

plucky island
#

here is what i'm planning on building

#

already got the gpu bc it was on offer

opal stratus
#

This looks ok right?

#

My cpu keeps dropping down to like 200MHz and 0.75 Volts

plucky island
#

thermal throttling?

opal stratus
#

Not under load

plucky island
#

yeh thats when that would happen

#

what r ur cpu temps like and what cpu r u using?

opal stratus
#

Ohh ok

#

Guess I won’t worry then thanks lol

plucky island
#

u paired a 1650s with a 3600?

#

not a bad choice

opal stratus
#

Oh really?

plucky island
#

but i'd of gotten a 1660s and a 300x

#

3300x

opal stratus
#

1650 is temporary lol

plucky island
#

ohh ok that makes more sense

#

what u getting?

opal stratus
#

I’m planning on upgrading to like 3070 or whatever’s coming out

plucky island
#

oh nice

#

that thing will probably b like the same as a 2080ti

#

mby a little less

opal stratus
#

Yeah, I heard the new AMD cards are monsters

scarlet gazelle
#

Yooo im in my menu haha I don’t know what this is

#

How do I download my ISO file

plucky island
#

but scene as a 1080ti is the same as a 2070s in terms of performance and they are saying that going from 10 to 20 will be a small boost than going from 20 to 30 that makes sense

scarlet gazelle
plucky island
#

we will just have to wait and see with the amd cards

scarlet gazelle
#

I’m so excited man this is my first build

plucky island

did u steal that keyboard from the library? xd

I'd be a bit cautious with the PSU, but even with that plus buying a new PSU if needed, still good deal. So go for it and then see which PSU it is (note: wattage, rating, and brand mean little in PSU quality. Gold PSUs can easily suck, PSUs from known brands can easily be IEDs, etc)

Should I upgrade to a 1080ti or a 2070 from a 1650?

2070 is newer and will last longer I believe

opal stratus

If you’re insistent on upgrading now go 2070 Super, but if you can wait then wait

ASUS Prime H310M-E R2.0 @opal stratus

deep skiff

it should work fine at pcie 3.0 16x unless you have something like dual 3080 ti's

scenic cliff
#

you think ? @deep skiff

deep skiff
#

confident

#

looking at pcie 3.0 16x vs 8x, it takes dual titan v's to show a difference in performance when the bandwidth gets cut in half, like what would happen if a pcie 4.0 16x card ran at 3.0 16x

scenic cliff

I currently rock a 1650 with 16gbs ddr4 and a i7 9700f

#

What do you personally think my next upgrade should be @deep skiff

deep skiff

9700f is still good for gaming i'd upgrade the gpu like you were thinking about

scenic cliff

my first first upgrade was 8 to 16gbs .

So i thought the gpu would be best for next

ya upgrading the ram to 16gb was smart, after the gpu you should have a killer rig

Sorry for the noob question but looking at building a PC for my first home lab. Can anyone recommend some hardware for the PC build. I’m mainly going to run Azure, Active Directory, Virtual Machine and maybe sneaker botting software. Budget is around $1000

sand falcon
#

Why azure 😦

kind cape
#

Jumping into an IT job and I need to learn Azure and Active Directory.

sand falcon
#

Rip

#

Will this just be for home lab?

kind cape
#

I’m going to be using Azure/Active Directory everyday at work. As for my home lab, I just need to use Azure to get better acquainted the service. I’m not using Azure for personal use

sand falcon
#

But it will just be for home lab, no gaming or something like that on the side?

kind cape
#

Just home lab, some Minecraft

sand falcon
#

Minecraft server or client?

kind cape
#

Client

sand falcon
#

Oh

#

Dang

#

So more a general purpose PC that also happens to be home lab?

little osprey
#

What does homelab entail

#

Is there something a 1080ti can't do?

sand falcon
#

Homelab is a small server

little osprey
#

OHH

sand falcon
#

Generally, homelabs have no GPU

little osprey
#

Yeah, Idk why you'd want to play minecraft on a server pc

#

Just build a cheap server

kind cape
#

Yes but I want to do a complete build. I know for the VM I’m going to need at least 16gb of ram

little osprey
#

And play minecraft on an 800 dollar pc

#

Wha

sand falcon
#

However, since it will also be used as a minecraft client, it will need some GPU

little osprey
#

Is it like a server / pc hybrid?

sand falcon
#

Any pc can be used as a server

little osprey
#

he could use an igpu but it would be terrible

#

Any pc can be used as a server
@sand falcon You shouldn't do it at the same time

#

Better to have to separate imo

sand falcon
#

Not really necessary

little osprey
#

Ig

sand falcon
#

It's fine

little osprey
#

Just my opinion

#

Depends on how much ram / cpu really I guess then

#

What is Azure for?

sand falcon
#

@kind cape what sort of case you looking for? 2U, 4U, normal tower?

#

Azure is a server OS

little osprey
#

Yes, what is the server for

sand falcon
#

Azure

little osprey
#

Like a website, database,

sand falcon
#

VM

little osprey
#

Okay sorry, what does Azure do

sand falcon
#

It's an operating system

little osprey
#

It runs a virtual machine?

#

Im so confused

kind cape
#

Database mgmt also

little osprey
#

Oh ok

sand falcon
#

It's an operating system, like windows or mac

little osprey
#

That makes more sense

kind cape
#

Azure can run VM also

little osprey
#

Okay so what does it do?

#

Okay its an so

#

Os

sand falcon
#

It's basically microsoft's version of Linux

little osprey
#

Is it just really intensive?

sand falcon
#

No

#

It's relatively light weight

little osprey
#

So they are running a server but on azure (operating)

kind cape
#

It’s modular. You but what you need

sand falcon
#

^

little osprey
#

i don't really understand

sand falcon
#

Anyhoo, what sort of a case are you looking for

little osprey
#

but im a windows pleb

sand falcon
#

I know

little osprey
#

linux is pretty mind boggling to me

sand falcon
#

It's just an OS

#

Nothing fancy

little osprey
#

Im aware

sand falcon
#

You log in, you open firefox

little osprey
#

But it cant open stuff like msis and stuff

sand falcon
#

No

#

There's software you can get to do that

little osprey
#

Well the ones at my library couldnt

#

Well yeah

sand falcon
#

Also, library computers are kinda locked down and you shouldn't install stuff on them

little osprey
#

I installed minecraft

#

When I was younger lol

kind cape
#

@sand falcon I’m going normal tower

sand falcon
#

Cool

little osprey
#

But I mostly played flash games

sand falcon
#

Any size preference?

little osprey
#

Eazy does that sort of thing require a lot of cooling though

#

I'd probably think Ryzen would be better for that sort of thing

sand falcon
#

It really depends

little osprey
#

Probably a 7 or 9

sand falcon
#

It really depends

little osprey
#

If you have the budget

sand falcon
#

It really depends

kind cape
#

@little osprey I think so.

little osprey
#

YES I KNOW

#

Im just saying in my opinion

#

Saying "it depends" is like saying "yes and no"

sand falcon
#

Thank you for your opinion on something you have already stated you know nothing about

little osprey
#

If im wrong just give me an example

#

I just said I dont know much about linux

little leaf
#

When he says it depends it depends lmao

little osprey
#

Clearly ryzen is better for servers

sand falcon
#

Again, it depends

little osprey
#

Due to high thread count, no?

sand falcon
#

Really depends

little osprey
#

Not even trying bro

little leaf
#

It depends

#

Bruv

sand falcon
#

Mostly on what you use the server for

little osprey
#

Not even trying bro

#

Not even trying bro

#

well yeah isnt that kind of obvious?

sand falcon
#

for a DB server, you generally just use some low power CPU, maybe 2 cores

little osprey
#

Wait he isnt running an mc server?

kind cape
#

@sand falcon eventually when I have the money I do want to explore NAS but for the time being do you think 4u would be a good size to start ?

sand falcon
#

Well, 4u isn't a standard tower

#

@little osprey mc client

little osprey
#

Nvm

#

@little osprey mc client
@sand falcon Yeah just realized lol

sand falcon
#

I can design you a rack or a tower, or both

little osprey
#

My old school had a bunch of racks

sand falcon
#

For a rack, the PSU will be cheaper, but the mobo more expensive

little osprey
#

It was really awesome ngl

sand falcon
#

Probably switches, right?

little osprey
#

I'm not sure, it was before I was super into building pcs although I had mine

sand falcon
#

Okay

little osprey
#

But there were a lot of servers, and it was mostly for managing internet traffic because majority of computers used chrome

#

Which is a really big bandwith hog

sand falcon
#

That would be a switch then

little osprey
#

Okay

#

Im guessing yes then

#

There were like

#

Multiple computers in every room

sand falcon
#

Thing with lotsa plugs and blinky lights?

little osprey
#

Yes

sand falcon
#

Yup

#

That do be a switch

little osprey
#

I stuck my guitar in there often

sand falcon
#

They're fun

kind cape
#

For the switches I picked up some second hand Cisco switches

little osprey
#

It was always aced as well

#

I presume to keep them cool

sand falcon
#

Cisco is good

#

Are you interested in any sort of raid?

kind cape
#

Not at this moment but when I get everything up and running...I’m going deeper in to the rabbit role

sand falcon
#

Cool

#

I will leave the option open for the future

#

Will you be running any OS besides azure?

kind cape
#

Primarily Windows, I’m going to Run Linux on VM. I run Tails from a from my thumb drive

sand falcon
#

I would highly recommend native Linux for the server, especially if the only game you run will be minecraft

kind cape
#

Which Distro ?

sand falcon
#

Probably debian or centos if you're going into server

kind cape
#

Okay

sand falcon
#

I finally found the case

#

I love this thing

#

I will assume you will not be needing wifi?

#

🤣

deep skiff
#

that thing pains me

sand falcon
#

Shuddup

stoic island
#

that thing seems nice

kind cape
#

Looks good...I’m good with the WiFi 😀

sand falcon
#

It's the next best thing to a server rack

#

Those ports on the front? hot swappable 3.5" HDD slots

deep skiff
#

that looks like if the first xbox was a server rack

kind cape
#

I like that !!!

sand falcon
#

That is OCD triggering to a whole new level

#

Does anyone know if the 4750g is actually available?

stoic island
#

Not in the US so far

sand falcon
#

Dang

#

That would be perfect for this build

stoic island
#

rip

sand falcon
#

This build makes me so happy

stoic island
#

I assume you have a reason for the ram?

sand falcon
#

It doesn't have pcie4, but you could upgrade later if you end up needing it

#

Server with azure, database, and vm

stoic island
#

nothing that would be GPU workload?

sand falcon
#

Occasional light minecraft

stoic island
#

oh then that's fine I guess

#

570 for 150$ thooo

sand falcon
#

570 is probably overkill, but eh what the heck

stoic island
#

why no 1650s

#

:P

sand falcon
#

I actually didn't think to check price

#

I just thought cheap and went amd 🤣

#

570 still cheaper

stoic island
#

570 is not worth 150 tho just saying

sand falcon
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

kind cape
#

@sand falcon that would definitely work. In the future could I add another cooling system to this build ?

sand falcon
#

Definitely. That's another nice thing about that case

#

Lotsa cooling room

#

Not length wise, but depth wise

#

You can use server grade fans in it

deep skiff
#

noctua go brrrrr

sand falcon
#

Blowiematron goes brrrrrr

#

It also has separate cooling sections for CPU/GPU and PSU/HDD which is cool

kind cape
#

@sand falcon Got it !!

opal stratus
#

Could someone pls recommend a budget m.2 that has like 1tb or more?

kind cape
#

@sand falcon I really appreciate it. Going to post pics of the finished product

sand falcon
#

👍

#

@opal stratus mp34 for 1TB

#

sn750 probably for 2tb

stoic island
#

or sabrent rocket

opal stratus
#

Cool thanks

#

I mean how much storage could I really need

#

I just play games and do school work

stoic island
#

Try 1tb

opal stratus
#

Also I put thermal paste in the pcie so it would have better temps but it isn’t detecting now, any ideas why?

#

Yeah I’ll go with 1tb, I already have 500gb mp34

stoic island
#

Ahem

#

You out thermal paste in the pcie?

opal stratus
#

Yeah so it like cools down better

#

Pcie is the ram slot but longer right?

stoic island
#

.........

#

@celest horizon is this something you could recover from?

opal stratus
#

Trolling don’t worry 😂

stoic island
#

I'm actually curious

opal stratus
#

Actually now I am too

celest horizon
#

opal stratus

stoic island

It shouldn't damage pins but how do you get it out

opal stratus

stoic island

opal stratus

stoic island

Question: I've used Intel and Nvidia all my life, going to be switching to AMD products. Can I use my Nvidia GPU on an AMD board? Or do I need to get an AMD GPU?
