my friend heard a "weird" noise when he turned his pc on earlier and then everything shutoff and none of the lights are on. We are assuming it is the power supply but not sure how to rule anything else out. He said there is no smell of burnt electronics. no visible burn marks or tracks on the mobo. Any ideas? he doesnt have any spare parts on hand and isnt local to any pc hardware stores. He wants to isolate which part is the problem and if its fixable.

I have watched so many yet none show you how they're connected to eachother etc. just howbthey plug a single one into the MB and they work

however I think I've solved it

all 3 fans go to the same MB header

it's called daisy chaining

i would watch for the fan's current ratings

but a typical header should be able to safely handle 10 fans

also, what cpu do you have if i may ask?

you might be able to use the pc without a gpu to test it if the cpu has an igpu

I've just finished installing the cpu heatsunk and fan

would i be able to see if it runs without an SSD/HDD and GPU? it would boot straight into BIOS and nothing else, and i wouldn't be able to install windows yet

That might explain why you can't turn it on

I infact plugged the front panel cable in wrong

it's booted up now

however there is some red light shining on the motherboard

You have a working pc

The red light was most likely memory training

The board does this to learn the ram's values and test it every time you reset the bios

It just means you have no boot device

Fan placement is honestly dependent on your case configuration

But leaving it stock is often enough

And for the tpm warning, just press Y

nah that's ok to leave it be

all you wanna enable is just xmp/docp, but do it when windows is installed

there's an off chance that the ram could be defective and couldn't run at its xmp profile speed and timings

you don't wanna risk corrupting a windows install, that'd be a pain
