going on a 9800x3d so don't need particularly amazing cooling just want something quiet
True
Can get a 240 and forget about it fr
Now the bigger part is which one to get
Because like their air coolers, they also have many aio models
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT, Jonsbo D31 MESH Screen MicroATX Mini Tower
well i got everything ordered
lowkey i can prob break even selling the old pc
Possible
I could sell my 6700 xt and make a profit even though I just bought it like a month ago
Hey guys I just built a new computer and it’s been stuck like this for a min
I have an amd ryzen 7 7700 x
i like the screen inside my current pc, this seems like the best way to keep that in a smaller case
Right
Do you have bitlocker on
what did you press?
I just hold on delete and now it says entering boot menu and it’s been like that for 5 min
That I do not know I just built it and plugged in
Typically I see this when upgrading to a new platform or something, not on a fresh system
I would press y then if its fresh
The graphics card and nvm ssd is used
Oh wait then
I made sure to wipe ssd but now I’m too sure
Ok well if its fresh then it doesn't matter
Should I just restart it and press y then?
Yeah
You’re literally a god I love you

I got one more question
I feel like an idiot but I only have an ssd nvm
How do I put that as a boot
Ok so you have to put windows on it by either downloading the iso from microsoft, or using the installation media tool
Appericate but is there a YouTube video regarding this, I probably need a usb stick but how do I get the nvm ssd as the boot
So when you run the installation it will ask what drive to install windows onto
Okay!
Is it bad if I use my monitor outside the operating temp as mentioned in the specs?
If it’s for a short time while you upgrade your stuff no, but long term it can be very detrimental
there any laptops in the $500-$800 price range for light gaming and such worth considering rn?
I generally don’t recommend using laptops at all cause they’re pricey for a product that will crap out on you eventually, but if you must Newegg has a deal
Looking to get a psu for my 5070+Ryzen 7700. I’ve seen atx 3.0 and 3.1 will a quality 3.0 be fine or should I go for 3.1
Depending on "light gaming" they might want a dedicated gpu
I'd get this. Good quality modular unit, 850W should be plenty and leave room for a gpu upgrade in the future
There's a 750W as well but it's the same price rn
Thanks but idk if it would fit in my case. I’m using a jonsbo z20 so smaller the better
It's 140mm, should work fine in the z20
Oh wait
Pcpp might've pulled the fan size not PSU length
Nah it is 140mm
Isnt that the typical size
Ok, so is 3.1 a big deal
no
Some higher wattage units will be 160 or 180mm
Looks like a lot of the Corsair rmx units are 160
Right
The z20 can take those but because of the layout they reccomend <= 140mm
In a "normal" case layout the extra 2cm doesn't matter but in the small matx cases with vertical PSU above the gpu, having extra space for the cables is nice
i forgor what someone said
but a question i gyatt is what if I install windows 11 on two ssds and have them both installed on my pc
🤔
would it even matter bc of boot thang
It was component swapped
It’s not good anymore
Bruhhh
yeah, realistically id like a pc but i need smth thatll fix in my toolbox
thanks
Question. Would a 7700x be a worthwhile upgrade from a 9700k?
Thinking of picking up one used for $150 to get moved over to a B850 Mobo
256 gb ssd enough to replace dell 3100 16gb to change os from chrome to windows?
also looking to run a dedicated server off of it so maybe from 4gb ram to 8?
maybe 128
If you can upgrade the storage yes a 256GB SSD would be fine for windows. A 128GB SSD would work as well as long as you're not planning on hosting a lot of data on it.
Definitely
If you have access to a microcenter tho I’d go 7800x3d
Yeah especially if you can’t afford a 3dx one
any way I can make this build better and cheaper? I need the rtx card for 3d work or if not that one another one https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Dt3wFZ
Do you need all the cores?
If your workload values single threaded performance over multi core you might be able to get away with a cheaper cpu
In fact I'd probably spend more on the cooler
use case is 3d work and maybe a bit of ai
ue5, blender stuff like that
The power supply is also a bit suspect
That's an understatement really
Blender also favours single threaded performance
Try to use a bit more gpu power in those applications, the cpu section doesn’t really get hit by either unless you start running simulations
Part List - Intel Core i7-12700KF, GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, Zalman S2 ATX Mid Tower
Optimized it a bit
Still pretty overpriced but eh it's 2025
I wonder if the 5900x with ddr4 can outperform the 12700kf with ddr5
Nope
Alder lake still better
ddr4 is an option I suppose
Viable in my case so far
I wonder how much alder lake benefits from ddr4
if it's not all that much
might not be a bad idea to go down to ddr4
although it'll limit upgrade options so that's a tradeoff
Unless the application is memory dependent the cpus performance would be not really affected, just stay with a 3600mhz 16cl kit and your set
But previously the only reason to stay ddr4 at the time was mainly pricing, instability, and availability, but that it’s matured ddr5 is the only recommendation for new pcs or upgrades since ddr4 is making its way like ddr3
Ddr5 does outperform ddr4, even with near jedec kits, it's still a nice 10% boost with bandwidth and other small improvements, there were a couple of tests when it launched, iirc it was comparing ddr4 3200 and 3600 against ddr5 4800 and 5200
I see
I imagine it'd be even more apparent in productivity tasks
Where they make better use of the cpu compared to games
Could anyone lmk if this would be an efficient build? Just mainly used for gaming and a little bit of school. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pwVG6Q
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, Montech XR ATX Mid Tower
Although I already have the 3060, and it’s a trio not a duo
Oh god
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7500F, Montech XR ATX Mid Tower
This and a used gpu
Was it a bad build?😭
Yes
Someone suggested the motherboard I had
It will do nothing
Like literally nothing
You can save money by not going atx mobo from my build asw
Also you chose an asrock mobo, those aren’t great rn
It’s fine
That motherboard is fine
However
The rest of the list is not
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Montech XR ATX Mid Tower
I've purposely left the gpu out because of the instability of the gpu market
I've also selected the 7600 because of tariffs on aliexpress
Sidenote
Don't get corsair vengeance
They're just bad
I didn’t know that
Why not the Newegg 9600x full bundle btw
Oh it’s gone nvm
Anyone got any good monitor deals?
-
I really just need a second monitor for productivity.
-
Current second monitor shattered on the way back from college, AGAIN, and now I'm back down to 1.
-
Current UNBROKEN Monitor is 1440p @170Hz.
-
Old monitor [now shattered] was 4K @60Hz
I kinda just selected those as a placement, also would the 7600 be good price to performance? As they mentioned the 9600x is $208 rn😭
And ASRock is not a bad motherboard for correction?
considering the gains are marginal from the 7600/x to the 9600/x
either would be good
although since the price difference is also marginal
you might as well go for the 9600x
the asrock board is fine yes
it's the cheapest wifi board that's not trash actually
Perfect
I don’t mind spending more on the processor anyway
I’ll probably order that 9600x when I can before the sale disappears
the bundle with the mobo and ram and stuff isnt
But the 9600x for dman near the same price at the 7600x?
Definitely copping that
Is this not the same motherboard??
The price is drastically different
It appears it is, amazon just has an insane price diff
Not sure
Yeah it's pretty much the same
But does it have wifi? I’m not too sure I can’t find it
And last question, does the Rs matter at all?
If it says wifi on the listing
It has wifi
There's a wifi and non wifi version
RS is just marketing
Gotcha
Wait it doesn’t have wifi right
This one would work tho
Practically the same thing
Eh
I'd look for a cheaper gpu
Look on ebay for a used 3060ti
You might be able to find one under $250
Do not pay $400 for a 3060
That is a scam
I suppose $260 isn't the end of the world
Brand new aswell
It's a bit pricey for a non ti
But it's not too atrocious
I didn’t do a whole lot of browsing but I was hungry to start
Especially in 2025
which do I get? I don't know much about pc's and 2 of them were suggested to me, somewhere around thst budget
if those suck please help me oht
first one is the least bad deal, just throw some extra storage in it
it take it you're looking for a prebuit and really really don't want to build yourself?
it'll limit options if so, but there still may be better deals about
not a clue how to, I don't really know anything
my bubdet is like £1k at most I'd sat
1k 1.1k ish
it's really not too difficult, i'd strongly recommend checking out some build tutorials and seeing if you feel up for it. plenty of folks here will be able to walk you through it if you get stuck somewhere during the process as well. you'll certainly get better value doing it that way. but no pressure, there isn't any shame in going prebuilt either. just be aware you'll be compromising somewhat
is it cheaper by a lot or is it just like a little bit cheaper
depends on what you're looking for. would you rathe save money on something comparable to those builds you linked, or get the fastest possible PC at $1k?
(or any other budget i suppose haha)
well I'm looking for performance but nothing too outrageous considering I don't really play games which are really gonna depend on my parts as I don't play games like cod etc. saving some money would be good yeah because from what I've been told these builds are good performance for the price in this market
any plans to upgrade at all in the future, or should we not consider CPU upgrade path at all?
not any as of right now, never really been a fan of games like cod so i don't think I'd need an upgrade
this would be my go-to for something around the same price as those builds (check the ebay links for the price-adjusted parts in the PCPP list)
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/whdJ2x

Functionality condition: This device is in fully working, used condition. It has been fully tested to ensure all aspects are working. Socket LGA1700. Model B660 DS3H AC DDR4-Y1. Form Factor ATX. [New] Alpen Optics Night Vision Digital Binoculars.
Ordered on amazon in mid january. Only used for a few months for browsing and light gaming. Works perfectly fine. Comes with stock intel cooler.
for something a bit (lot) faster, this stretches your budget by about $70, but is significantly more powerful (same links for cpu/cooler/board, i just swapped the 6800 for a 9070)
Part List - Intel Core i5-12400F, Radeon RX 9070, Montech XR ATX Mid Tower
the 6800 is still HEAPS faster than 4060/4060 ti btw, but 9070 is a good strong upgrade over 6800 as well
I'll look into it, thank you 🙂
also my budget won't be stretched as that is in USD
and I'm in Scotland so I use GBP
oh shoot my bad, i could have switched over to scotland ebay offerings
i've gotta run now, but i'll send you over an updated list when i have the chance, unless all those options are already available at the proper price for you via international shipping
I'll go check but thank you so much 🙂
12400f and 9070 is mental
Wow that list is… interesting
I’ll help with the list… that list is not good
What is your budget?
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/MTcyRV
this and a gpu will be much better than what he sent
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Antec AX20 ATX Mid Tower
around 1000 GBP
what gpu? and how good would this come out to be
Scotland?
Can you order off those sites on the list I sent
that eats a lot of GPU budget for a CPU 10% faster than a 12400
It’s not 10%
Also there’s ddr5
it's close, but even so you can save €40 by going 7500f over 7600x
Then get that
yeah and yeah
sorry for the late reply I was busy
@mental hazel @fallen sphinx sorry I was busy, so about the pc parts, what ones do I end up getting?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 7700 XT, Montech X3 Mesh ATX Mid Tower
I was also sent this one in another server, seems closer to my budget but I don't really know much as in if it's bang for buck or not
Eh
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 7700 XT, Montech X3 Mesh ATX Mid Tower
But id look into a better gpu
Actually that psu is better
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 7700 XT, Montech X3 Mesh ATX Mid Tower
asrock is fine for 7000
just more ram you put in?
i dont see any reported cases of 7000 series failing on asrock
from 16 to 32gb
which motherboard? I'm going to end up building one because by the looks of it I'm getting better for same price
and is everything else good?
Not asrock in general
That specific board isn't ideal
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 7700 XT, Montech X3 Mesh ATX Mid Tower
hmmm ok
Here's a more optimised list
is it because its an m?
oh
what's different about the board? and the PSU which you changed?
Better vrms
where's this list?
And I just went for a cheaper psu because 750w is quite unnecessary
vrms?
The motherboard voltage regulator module is a crucial but often-overlooked component. What does it do, and why is it important, especially for overclockers?

also I noticed the old one is semi modular and the new one is fully modular, what difference does thst make? Just a quick explanation
It really just comes down to convenience
ah so it helps the cpu remain at a lower temp for longer
No
for mine the 24pin cable for the motherboard was stuck on and not removable
Gonna do some penny pinching
what sort of convenience? if im not planning on upgrading soon etc. then should I stick with the 750W or the one you put in?
man choosing parts for a PC is confusing and I'm barely doing any of it😭
Cable management
If you're not upgrading any time soon then getting the 750w is completely unnecessary
well I don't think I'll be upgrading any time soon as I won't be playing games which constantly increase their graphics and requirements to play them such as COD
Semi modular has most used cables being built into the PSU, rest removable, modular has all cables removable
"future poof" gamers when they are just going to rebuild their rig in 5 years:
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 7700 XT, Antec NX260 ATX Mid Tower
so fully modular PSU is better as I can swap out the cables if they get damaged somehow, unlike a semi modular ?
The psu is more likely to blow up before that happens
If your PSU cables are damaged in any way I'd replace the entire PSU lol
Unless you use 12vhpwr
Don't risk anything with the PSU
they need to standardize these stupid cables
This is probably the cheapest I could get it
Wait
This isn't the US
Gonna hop on AliExpress
It's just nicer for cable management when you don't use all the cables so there's no unused cables hanging around
its bad enough that they arent compatible but they also have to make the connectors the same size
yeah, scotland😭
No tariffs = fun cheap stuff
I kind of liked the other case more, it looks a bit cleaner, but honestly it's not much difference between the two that I see
I just found this on AliExpress:
£171.56 | AMD New Ryzen 5 7500F R5 7500F 3.7GHz 5NM L3=32M 100-000001015 Socket AM5 Tray but without cooler
https://a.aliexpress.com/_okaecR5
No that's a good thing
and the cpu cooler is a newer version?
Cheaper
okay
Same thing
ah okay
Scotland doesn't have funny tariffs
rgb= more fps tho😞😞(this one is actually a joke I know it doesn't)
Are you seeing 121 pounds on the aliexpress listing?
is that better than the 7600x?
is aliexpress reliable though? I've never really thought to buy electronics off websites like them
It's just as reliable as amazon
It's pretty much a cheaper 7600/X
amazon says the 7600x is £138.33
no returns or refunds though
When your PC has the world’s most advanced desktop processor for gamers, you can focus on what really matters: being victorious on the digital battlefield. Whether you’re playing the latest titles or revisiting a classic, the AMD Ryzen™ 7000 Series processors are a gaming powerhouse with high-per...
am i missing something
161.97, same as the one pcpartpicker shoesd
weird maybe because my location is weird
maybe
the 7600x is 1 GHz faster and £10 cheaper
That's not how it works
it's roughly £10 cheaper and im guessing its performance is slightly better
Just get that then
okay
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/XcvNTM final build then? if anything I might change the case back to the glass panel with the handle so I can open it without unscrewing it
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 7700 XT, Antec NX260 ATX Mid Tower
the montech x3
Eh?
get a 1600w for future proofing/j
Why would you need to open the side panel
That wouldn't involve maintenance
cleaning for example like dust and that, simpler, no,
£5 difference
as someone who paid $240 for my case i have no say in this
😭
This case is the same price
It's a decent alternative to the X3
No screws on the tempered glass side panels
Up to you but the XR is generally the more aesthetically pleasing case
in that case the xr it is, looks really nice to me aswell
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 7700 XT, Montech XR ATX Mid Tower
looks sweet to me, been about this all day looking into it with you all here and some people in another server and this is what they suggested, you guys made slight changes (more ram, slightly different PSU and case), do we have a winner?
I think so but you guys are the specialists
soo I'm taking that as we have a winner
okay, thank you so much for helping me out with everything this whole day, i don't know what I've had built without you but it was mostly likely gonna be 10x worse lol. Once again thank you so much 🙂
okay
okay, thank you so much once again I really appreciate it, I'll order everything soon and keep you updated on how its running😁
good luck on the pc
thank you
was gonna buy ryzen 5 7500f for rx 9070xt but found some stutters in some games what cpu do you recommend with 250 euro budget
source?
It could be a faulty testing methodology
single stick of ram frfr
i saw some benchmark were there was stutters in cyberpunk gta5 and hogwarts
i will like to take your advice which build is good when it come to price to performance ryzen 5 7500f with rx 9070 or ryzen 5 9600x with rx 9070xt
why not 7500f and 9070xt?
its also an option but i saw in some benchmarks that the preformance not that big when it come to price
the rx 9070 where i live is 660euro and the xt is 740euro
the gains from the 7500f to the 9600x are marginal
eh
the XT isn't atrociously overpriced
not optimal but not the worst
7500f is 144euro and 9600x is 210 euro
ok definitely not worth it
you're paying 70 euros for marginal gains
are you just upgrading cpu and gpu
or building a whole pc
do you have a list in mind?
building a new pc
1700 euro germany
one sec
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7500F, Radeon RX 9070, Lian Li Lancool 207 ATX Mid Tower
optimised the list
swapped the motherboard out for a better one
and it's also 73 euros cheaper
thanks for help
I'd say the 9070 and the 9070XT are roughly similar in terms of performance/$
it's up to you if you want spend more for more performance
thanks for the advice i appreciate it
np
Possibly hit the holy grail
CPU won’t boot but he’s also selling a bunch of his PC parts so I’ll have to test if I get
Sus gpu
Might have crap vram
And crap silicon
These chinese gpus often are that
True but I could test.
I’m going to probably boot it into a stress test
Sure It’ll take 10 minutes
But I’m sure the dude can wait for 300$
Oh
The seller lets you test it
That's a different story
Yeah there's no risk then
I'd probably run a couple more test too
If he doesn’t then I’m not buying
Just to see if it's actually a 3080
a broken part should sell for at least 1/2 the original price tbh
and for cpus you shouldnt even sell broken ones
99% of the time they cannot be saved
What y'all think about this
Clickbait
Different use case
Also nothing groundbreaking
Mobile silicon's been used with high end gpus in mini pcs for a while now
Finalizing a deal with my irl friend for this used prebuilt $1650. What do you think?
PC Specs:
Case: iBUYPOWER Y40 Pro
CPU: Ryzen 9 7900X (12-core, 24-thread)
GPU: MSI RTX 4080 SUPER
RAM: 64GB DDR5 6000 (upgraded)
Storage: 4TB SSD (upgraded)
Motherboard: ASRock B650M-C
Cooler: 240mm AIO
PSU: Uncertain
not terrible but i would swap the case as if i remember that one stuggled with thermals unlike the larger y60 and 70 case, and get a check on the psu, but otherwise good deal
What do you need in a monitor? A cheap 60hz 1080p monitor should be plenty
A friend made this build, how is it? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZygNTM
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, NZXT H6 Flow ATX Mid Tower
do they already have the 3060 or smth
In 2025, if you have the option not to buy it, yes
Good deal new tho aye
I assume they already bought everything
Hopefully not
The power supply is especially bad
For how much?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, Montech XR ATX Mid Tower
This would be better for cheaper
Please do not get the power supply in the original list
It is a safety hazard
Same as the one I copped which was $260
Jesus 😭
Great
please take a look at the list
I've made several changes which would result in a better computer for a lower price
It looks great
There’s the compatibility note about the power supply but
Better than what it was
I sent it to him and he said he didn’t know some of the brands tho
don't buy based on brand
buy based on the specific model
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1B27_j9NDPU3cNlj2HKcrfpJKHkOf-Oi1DbuuQva2gT4/edit?gid=0#gid=0
for ram it doesn't really matter
The brands generally don't make the dram itself
unless it's corsair
generally most kits with similar specs will perform the same
Gotta say you’ve been one helpful lad
So that build would be the most optimal for gaming
not the best you can get for the price once you factor in the gpu
but it's as good as it can be
under the circumstances
Sigh you make me think the 3060 was the worst decision of my life
I mean could went up a generation for nearly the same price 😭
If it can run steady at 1080p or 1440p with nice frames then I’m happy
massive difference in performance
True
unfortunate but it is what it is
I mean it’s not the worst tho right
I won’t be running that high of demanding games
it's bad for the price but it's not a bad gpu
Mainly I wanna run older games so that won’t be an issue at all, VR Games on my oculus that I can’t run on it stand alone
And some lower demanding title, indie games
she'll be alright
actually
I won’t know what could be that much better
Aaand i will be terrible at actual games so
what console?
Ps5
Well better in also from what I can play to
Yk
Cs i mainly wanna get it so i can play games i just literally can’t
At high graphics so
depends on the game
Do you have a chart like this one for cpu?
you can probably just look up benchmarks
for a recent gpu
they'll generally have comparisons
I atleast know the 9600x is a pretty nice upgrade from the counterparts I was gonna get for practically the same price
well
it's marginal
I wouldn't say it's much of an upgrade
but for the price difference it's not bad either
hello wondering if anyone can provide me feedback on a build i want to make for a nephew of mine. He is into fortnite, COD, and apex. So mostly fps any feed back is good i have yet to buy anything. Besides the case which i already saving for awhile unused, so its new.
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, Radeon RX 6700, GAMDIAS TALOS E1 MicroATX Mini Tower
ok like i said ill take any and all advice i have not bought anything for this
one sec
so what should i change it for?
well the power supply's not the only thing so I'll give you optimised list and explain the changes
sure i am not good at picking parts which is why i always come here for help
so thank you 🙂
I assume the 6700 and the case is already bought?
what about the gpu?
so how do you plan on purchasing a gpu?
this is what I have for now
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7700, Radeon RX 6700, GAMDIAS TALOS E1 MicroATX Mini Tower
i don't under the question?
The gpu has no price listed
I assume it's unavailable
oh wait
I forgot the power supply
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7700, Radeon RX 6700, GAMDIAS TALOS E1 MicroATX Mini Tower
oh well i have on sites but most of them are refurbished
if i can't find what is a good swap for it
I can't say without knowing the price
anything on this chart that's around similar performance for less/the same price
just a general idea found this on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/156742730154?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&google_free_listing_action=view_item&srsltid=AfmBOorDlH_JSD1x6w6voU2MUc4RMaE_S-_RIdLRCNJoOqJz1_giE0HdpPw&gQT=2
that's not bad
so should i just stick the GPU then?
I mean it's not great either but in 2025 that's probably one of the better deals you can get
if you can't find anything better for the price
yes
it's around $100 cheaper
swapped 7700X and 7700 because they are practically the same
motherboard is cheaper and better
swapped the ram kit for a cheaper one
replaced the ssd with a better one
same with the psu
ok thank you
Get this instead. Same card $100 cheaper
Slightly nicer cooler as well I think
Thank you
Bros flexing the Busch Apple 😭
Anyways that probably a gpu sag bracket. Goes under the gpu at the end to keep it from sagging
I was fixing to say this lol
I've been trying to get some but the supply is limited and the frats are snatching it up 😭
Going home for the summer tho and I believe supply will be better there
Yk what’s funny
My store has a whole pallet on display and it’s going strong
30 pack cans
I was flexing it but also did my gpu come with 2 then? I have a little stand then I have that
Not sure tbh
Might be the one you sent only works in certain cases and the little stand is more universal?
We have no Gamers in here
get the one that feels better to you
and that you can afford
mechanical keyboards are highly subjective
I reccomend red switches (linear, no bump or click) to start
What are your opinion on blues?
I'm personally not a fan
Most overrated switches imo
Some people like them but I think for a gamer reds are the best place to start
Noisy and don't feel all that good
Or silvers/speeds (still linear, slightly less travel)
I'm really tempted to build a keeb with silent switches
Since my mech died
Spilled water on it
Sadge
I have plans to get a nicer keeb but rn I'm moving between college/home and have 2 boards
Don't wanna commit to a nicer one till I'm only living in one place
I fear going from the nice one to an ok one will make me sad
@digital folio I reccomend going to #peripherals-and-displays and stating a budget, plus if you want things like arrow keys and numpad
my friend heard a "weird" noise when he turned his pc on earlier and then everything shutoff and none of the lights are on. We are assuming it is the power supply but not sure how to rule anything else out. He said there is no smell of burnt electronics. no visible burn marks or tracks on the mobo. Any ideas? he doesnt have any spare parts on hand and isnt local to any pc hardware stores. He wants to isolate which part is the problem and if its fixable.
the psu is a nzxt e500. noise was from the pc.
does it boot as is?
he has it plugged into a power strip and everything else plugged in works fine.
he came home from work and turned it on, then heard the "weird" noise and since then it doesnt get any form of power
maybe OCP just tripped
then it'd have to be something with the PSU, can't really troubleshoot anything else if it can't get power
I'd swap the power supply
damn, he was hoping for some form of way to find out if it damaged more than just the psu.
is there a way to reset the OCP?
I'd replace the psu
would a new psu of the same type be fine or should he replace all the wires too?
ok
it is important that if you're getting a new psu
do not ever use the same cables
the pinout is different
you will fry your parts
even if its the same model?
if you want to be completely safe
I'd swap out the cables
it may be fine but you can never be too safe
good to know, ill play it safe if I ever come across the issue.
He said he is gonna try to get ahold of a Enermax Revolution III 650 so he will have to swap the wires.
if it was working correctly, it'd be reset for the next time you turn it on
Office chairs are designed to be ergonomic
And takes up less space than gaming chairs
Gaming chairs are more of a gimmick if anything
Unless you're going for a sim racing setup
And you want that aesthetic
I mean, Herman Miller chairs aren't budget
used Herman Miller chairs are often budget ish
But you have to live near offices to get a good deal on them
Nah
Sim racing setups do not work with gaming racing chairs
Because it has wheels
Technically you can add wheel chocks
But you still can rotate
So it's still terrible for racing sims
Literally just go to a scrapyard and grab an actual car chair to make a racing cockpit
So much more comfortable
I mean you can just build it without the wheels
What's the point of buying it if you're not going to use the casters and air spring
You can buy a racing cockpit chair for cheaper
Or a whole cockpit kit
Yeah those foldable ones are nice

Both my grandmother in a very rural town and my girlfriend have had this chair. This chair absolute ass
It is not ass, peak office chair
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/r9V9PJ how’s this build?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, Montech XR ATX Mid Tower
Ignore the psu, I didn’t want that there
Pretty good
Could probably cut down the mobo to $150 or so
Pretty sure Corsair rmx is good as well
Though for $100 you could probably get a decent 850W
Ram should be 6000 cl30
AsRock Micro ATX then?
ASRock Hdv/m.2 is pretty good iirc
Would going cheaper for a mobo be a good idea?
$150 will still get you a good motherboard. I'd try and put more $ towards the gpu
Ik a few people that recommend this https://pcpartpicker.com/product/qcbRsY/asrock-b650m-pro-rs-wifi-micro-atx-am5-motherboard-b650m-pro-rs-wifi
There's also this if you don't need wifi
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FcbRsY/asrock-b650m-pro-rs-micro-atx-am5-motherboard-b650m-pro-rs
And I believe this one was used to set an overclocking record?
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Dq4Zxr/asrock-b650m-hdvm2-micro-atx-am5-motherboard-b650m-hdvm2
Bro what
Thats a crazy vrm
I love asrock
Except for the recent bios versions
Get it together fellas
I can’t Ethernet so
Great if you don’t need it tho
Can I dm you Stevie joe
Sure
I thought I gave you a list the other day?
What's wrong with the list I gave you
it may not be working correctly then. he let it sit unplugged overnight and still nothing
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, Montech XR ATX Mid Tower
Nothing, but I wanna get good at building budget pcs for a side hussle
I would not get that $200 mobo
Although I did want to inquire abt that psu
Should I try to grab a 850
It's pretty unnecessary
750w is already in excess of what it needs
And still presents quite a bit of upgrade headroom
The SSD in the list is better, the ram is also better
Also being cheaper
So basically for mine we chillin
It's around $80 cheaper and the parts are generally better/on par
Wait
So are you making a different list
Is that separate from the build?
Well that was yes, just a play build
Ok
So I assume you'd want some opinions on the list
Motherboard is overpriced,
Ram is sub-optimal (DDR5-6000 CL36) (You want CL30-32 for 6000-6400)
NVMe is meh (there are way better ssds that costs less)
PSU could be cheaper but not bad
Case's also pretty overpriced but there's some pricing shennaigans going on here
I wouldn't get the XR black until the price comes back down
I see, I also just learned abt the ram earlier today
In the list you made me tho, the ram is 32 but it’s also 6400 so I assume it’s not the worst tradeoff?
You're getting a higher frequency for the latency
CL32 is still acceptable for 6000 so
6400CL32 just happens to be better value at this moment in time
The practical $100 difference will help me out a lot
The only thing I’m worried abt is a good monitor 😭
Consult #old-monitors-and-tv
That’s solved, I’ll hold on until I have the funds
@plucky timber it’s not safe to put a pc on the floor right?
It would be great for me to have it on the floor
Could I build some type of leverage?
yeah
The mobo supports Gen 4 ssd?
Might also need to update the bios to support the cpu
yes
there are gen 4 lanes
not that you'd see that much benefit over gen 3 but still
What's it going to be for raw performance before any FSR/DLSS, AMD's 9070 XT or NVIDIA's 5080? I have a microcenter warranty coming up on expiration soon so I wanted to get some more data, perhaps from gamers and their views on running with those cards

AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 GPUs are launching tomorrow. This benchmark and review of the AMD RX 9070 XT (Sapphire Pulse model) looks at the gaming performance, ray tracing, power consumption, and efficiency vs. the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti, 5070, AMD's prior 7900 XT, and ple...
yall is it normal that i use 10 gb ram with only discord open😭🙏???
5080 is better but much more expensive, however 9070xt oc/uv really well, and currently in doom dark ages (although probably a driver issue) 9070xt majorly beats 5080
On Windows 11? Yes and that’s why people will suggest 32GB as the standard nowadays
When buying an ssd are they all compatible as long as a sata slot is available? My dad has a pc that only had a hdd . I want to get him an ssd so it can run faster
Yes but get him an M.2 SSD if the option is available
Sounds good
what type of ssd?
where can i find the best of the best specs for pc builds out there?
I saved up some money and I want the best PC out there. For Editing, gaming, streaming.. etc.
the concept of "best of the best" is not really applicable to pc
oh ok
you can spend $5000 on a computer only to realize that you could've had similar performance for a fraction of the price
or less performance, but you save $2000-3000
i see
in summary, the price of "the best of the best" pc will not scale with performance
it gets to a point where you're paying a stupid amount of money for marginal improvements, or none at all
ok
oh and
paying for the best performance/$ is generally better than getting the best parts
you'd be only looking at 1-2k in comparison
which leaves you money to upgrade when the next generation of hardware comes out
in general going for performance/$ when building a computer will be more cost effective in the long term while resulting in net performance gains after an upgrade
depends on the budget
that's a stupid amount of money to spend on a computer
what exactly are you doing on it?
editing streaming and gaming
right
my old computer was very old back in 2011 it was cheap
with 1660 ti i bought it several years later in 2019
it took me 9 years to buy gpu
now i want a brand new one
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT, Montech XR ATX Mid Tower
not the best price/performance but it's only $2000
compared to the $5000 budget
the 9070XT is probably the most powerful gpu that's not stupidly overpriced at the money
the 5080's double the price
not worth it imo
with that amount of money you can buy one gpu now and a gpu upgrade next gen
the current gpu market is very inflated
I'm a bit generous with the parts selection here because the budget allows
This is what it would look like if I were to optimize it for the best price/performance
Sure! Any recommendations?
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/JTXnTW/sceptre-e205w-16003r-195-1600x900-75-hz-monitor-e205w-16003r smth like this is plenty for a second monitor
??? Just looking to make his pc faster
I forgot to mention in my question of performance of 9070 XT vs 5080, what's going to be better on average FPS near 144 FPS at 1440p?
5080 is a better gpu then a 9070xt for pure performance
You'll have to figure out if his pc supports m.2 nvme or not
nvmes ssds are generally a lot faster than sata ssds at the same price
Unfortunately it does not
Sata it is
pcie adapter for m.2?
would cost more than just getting a sata ssd
pcie to m.2 adapters can also be janky
true
@plucky timber sorry for the ping, but would this mobo work instead of the other you had in the build https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813162196?item=N82E16813162196&source=googleshopping&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords-mobile&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-mobile-_-pla-_-motherboards+-+amd-_-N82E16813162196&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid+shopping&utm_campaign=knc-googleadwords-mobile-_-pla-_-motherboards+-+amd-_-N82E16813162196&id0=Google&id1=19141281834&id2=145065843518&id3=&id4=&id5=pla-2391616321641&id6=&id7=9015321&id8=&id9=g&id10=m&id11=&id12=EAIaIQobChMIuJOz-pyfjQMVTjEIBR2CJh_AEAQYAiABEgImmvD_BwE&id13=Y&id14=Y&id15=&id16=639427466870&id17=&id18=&id19=&id20=&id21=pla&id22=8438988&id23=online&id24=N82E16813162196&id25=US&id26=2391616321641&id27=&id28=&id29=&id30=17674012467289104178&id31=en&id32=&id33=&id34=&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19141281834&gbraid=0AAAAAD-YhmN7AGKiqWWtcy1Cpej3fVL9v

Perfect
hey could someone help me? my motherboard has arrived and it has 2 thing which I have no clue what they are for, i don't see anything in the installation manual for them either.
a singular tiny screen and the two black prong things
b650 eagle AX motherboard^
wifi antenna
if you want to have strong wifi signal yes
okay🤣
okok
that screw looks like an extra screw for m.2 ssd slot
also I have everything but gpu and ssd, should I start building my pc the now or wait till I have everything and do it all at once
ah possibly
thats up to you
tempting to build as much as I can rn ngl😭
I'm building my first PC and I'm trying to connect the case fans but I have no idea where any of the cables plug in to eachother and the motherboard. could someone help me out?
montech xr atx mid tower case
i only have minimal knowledge, i know most mbs have everything labeled.. but ill see who can help
this one does, but it's the case fans which I need to connect and I'm not sure which female port gets plugged to the motherboard from each fan
each fan has a set of these 4 cables
2 male 2 female ofcours
3 fans total
gigabyte b650 eagle ax motherboard
@vivid gale possibly?
some are busy, but theyll respond when they are free !
okay
the fan connector goes on the motherboard, the rgb connectors go together then onto the board at the correct connectors
dont plug male into male, or female into female because that's not how you have a good time
fan connector is the rubber or plastic one?

I think I got it, im connecting the PSU now but it's a bit confusing
in my fully modular PSU, which cables do I NEED to connect?
Anything that needs a connection. Basically if it doesn’t need plugged in, don’t.
I have no idea what needs and doesn't need plugged in
Minimum, you’ll need 1x pcie cable, 1x cpu, 1x 16pin, maybe 1x Sata.
24pin in my case I believe
okay I've unplugged the satas and 1x cpu 1x pcie
CPU is here
Pcie goes to gpu
Gpu plugs in here
gpu coming soon, don't have the money for it rn, getting payed in next Friday and I'll have the money for it(or possibly this friday)
thank you so much 🙂
like plugs into the gpu?
also should I install the cpu cooler fan the now with the thermal paste or should i leave thst until the PC is fully built and ready to be used?
is it normal to have this many un used bits,
COM, ESPI_DB, SPI_TPM, SYS_FAN2, QFLASH_PLUS, F_USB3, F_USB2, F_USB1, that half next to the F PANEL, LED_C, SYS_FAN1, CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT?
(the cpu fan will get installed when I get my gpu)
Yes
wtf is wrong with the case
Thats what i was thinking LOL
Its held together by duct tape and dreams 😭
Real
Maybe
Yea but i was making a joke lol
Please refrain from trolling in #building-and-recc-chat
You don't want to confuse people here
This is like george orwells book 1984
It's more that we don't want to confuse/intimidate first time pc builders
no it's the plastic film they put on it when shipping
I didn't take it off in that pic
Ah sorry
Or they're leaving it on permanently and it will look like garbage because the edges start to peel and collect dust but they continue to not peel it
I've seen this way too many times

I always peel mine immediately
And yes, they do infact get a million fingerprints on it almost immediately
hence why I didn't peel mine immediately😭, want it to look nice for at least 2 seconds once it's complete🤗
Yea

9070xt worth 899 at microcenter?
Definitely not
No
@plucky timber would you be able to help out?
Idk if it helps, and I'm genuinely not trying to sound like an ass, but it actually helps if you watch a couple tutorials about building PCs
I have watched so many yet none show you how they're connected to eachother etc. just howbthey plug a single one into the MB and they work
however I think I've solved it
all 3 fans go to the same MB header
you did it right
it's called daisy chaining
i would watch for the fan's current ratings
but a typical header should be able to safely handle 10 fans
also, what cpu do you have if i may ask?
you might be able to use the pc without a gpu to test it if the cpu has an igpu
ryzen 5 7600x
it does indeed have an igpu
I've just finished installing the cpu heatsunk and fan
would i be able to see if it runs without an SSD/HDD and GPU? it would boot straight into BIOS and nothing else, and i wouldn't be able to install windows yet
@obsidian wigeon
okay uh it doesn't turn on
and yes the PSU was on.
what do you have connected so far from the psu to the mobo
and yes, you don't need storage and gpu to get into bios
24pin, cpu
and the pcie isn't connected yet bc no gpu
Okay
Have you connected the case's front panel cables to the mobo's front panel header?
That might explain why you can't turn it on
I infact plugged the front panel cable in wrong
it's booted up now
however there is some red light shining on the motherboard
it's booted up now
That is good then
You have a working pc
The red light was most likely memory training
The board does this to learn the ram's values and test it every time you reset the bios
okay
what should I do now that its booted up? I don't have an SSD just yet so obviously can't download anything but I can still do all that bios stuff right?
I would leave that until you get storage and OS figured out
There's only one way you know if it's stable or not
and that is?
also what do I press here? Y to reset or N to keep? it says the fTPM or PSP NV is corrupted
or the structure is changed
also all these fans are intake I think. is that good or bad?
the red light is coming from a little bit labelled 'BOOT'
@obsidian wigeon
sorry for pinging
or should I just wait for the SSD and GPU before I press anything on that screen? it's the first thing that came up upon booting
It just means you have no boot device
The BOOT led
Fan placement is honestly dependent on your case configuration
But leaving it stock is often enough
And for the tpm warning, just press Y
by boot device it means what exactly?
an SSD?
Any storage device
ah okay okay
SSD, hard drive, anything
nah that's ok to leave it be
all you wanna enable is just xmp/docp, but do it when windows is installed
there's an off chance that the ram could be defective and couldn't run at its xmp profile speed and timings
you don't wanna risk corrupting a windows install, that'd be a pain
okay okay
gpu and ssd coming next week or maybe even this week🤭🤭
thank you so much🫠
you're welcome
also wont the pc boot into BIOS before I can download windows?
like since there won't be an OS on the ssd
yep
it will always boot into bios
or just boot up with a blank screen with a blinking cursor
or with a message about no boot device
so how would i download windows when I get my SSD, via a USB?
