I think it's a better idea to learn over weeks or months and then putting all of the knowledge in practice for when you finally do your first build, it's good to learn about the quirks of specifically what you're getting, since knowledge on one platform does not necessarily carry over to another

Hey guys i'm having a weird issue that has started appearing after the latest Windows 11 update where my computer will randomly start to stutter, like the whole computer itself, screens, applications, game I am playing and not to mention audio will become choppy. A friend of mine uses an AMD GPU on Linux, and he is very smart, but there are just things AMD GPU's cant do that are kinda required. Its a shame, AMD hardware is kinda useless for a lot of AI acceleration. The lack of FA2 is a nightmare for memory and compute density

They can specify certain aspects of computation, and offer more efficient calculation methods

For example, and LLM on his system may use 21 GB of his VRAM, but the identical one on my system would use like 16 GB of VRAM, run considerably faster, and degrade less in speed as it continues because of these technologies

There's a registry edit thing to stop windows from autoinstalling it's own drivers

Windows, and often games when they push updates will often ruin driver stability

It's always good to ddu every so often

Gpu drivers are the canary in the cage with windows most of the time

I almost always opt for that first

Some gpu driver updates can be so bad they effectively can't be installed without ddu to begin with (COUGH COUGH NVIDIA COUGH)

Well to be fair AMD Drivers age like fine wine. I remember back in the 5700 days of the constant blue screens...

Just speaking from experience

AMD still has the fun feature of self-bricking if you change the display layouts and resolutions too many times

Nvidia does this too with nvsurround

You can entropy the driver stability on any rdna 2 or 3 by changing the display and hz rate on monitors too many times in succession

But it's there

If you don't mess with it much and just set it up one way, then it runs really well

it's less likely to happen if you match vblank rates as well (monitor hz)

In ratios or identical, either help

Reduces idle state power too

Nvidia isn't free of this problem either, too many quick changes and the black screen resets can cause entropy too

Nvidia is a lot more consistent tho

But if you play with stuff like nvsurround or multigpu, or changing displays a lot while out of idle state, the chances still exist
