Whenever anyone asks me this. My answer is no, cos K5 pro, as gross as it is, will squish down almost perfectly to allow better core contact

Some cards you wouldn't do this, like 3090's you'd kinda want pads on the backplate (and good ventilation in a lot of situations) but the benefit is not the thermal transfer it gives, but how much it helps in allowing a card to have a good mount for the core

People tell me not to use k5 pro all the time but every time I go back to it I get incredibly good core repaste results

if you end up doing this, don't get memory with an XMP higher than 3800. Long story short, AM4 has this thing called FCLK that needs to run at 1/2 the speed of memory frequency & above 3800, it usually won't unless your CPU is really special (e.g. 3800=1900 FCLK; 3600=1800FCLK, etc)

X570 Steel Legend loks pretty good around that price... the issues my friend had could've been specific to his board &/or CPU not the board design
