assuming Corsair pairs their coolers with their basic $13 fans
you should see an improvement in temps
one thing to consider when buying fans in the future for a radiator is how much static pressure they have
bc while high airflow fans are great
they are less useful when trying to push or pull air thru a radiator
oh my god i am never building on an intel platform again
i am actually having chest pains from the rage this cooler installation process is causing me
@topaz blaze hm?
Is the mobo in the case rn?
how is that the fault of the intel platform?
it's the fault of the socket design
Also, the AM4 mount is definitely more difficult
if anything, blame Thermaltake for doing an arsefirst mounting mechanism
i've worked with AM3 and TR4 and neither of them were this aggravating
mind, that cooler is a wonky one
listen, you can tell me if i'm doing something wrong
but combining this cooler
and this motherboard
makes me feel like i'm going to explode
count to 4242
and then try again
letting your temper flare is not going to get the cooler mounted
oh i know
i'm stopping for the night
i just want to vent to people who know what i'm talking about
after 15 attempts and one yell loud enough that my neighbor asked if i was okay
i am done for the night
perhaps have a look if someone has done a video about it?
could be there is a "trick" to it
well this being a 2019 cooler and a 2011 board probably isn't gonna have a video about the combo
age of both have nothing to do with it
the socket has not really changed in the mounting holes
and my guess is that it is the screws for catching the ring that is playing tricks on you?
well "screws"
it's basically
i have to preattach the cooler to the bracket because of the insanely confined space around the socket, it won't be possible to attach the cooler after the fact
which means I have to do the bracket attachment with an entire cooler in the way
pull the board out of the case
it is out of the case
i'm waiting until a replacement IO shield comes in the mail to put it in the case
there "should" be space to work
because it is going to be close to impossible to do it the way you are talking about
you are trying to work against the spring that holds the cooler to the ring
ok so here's the thing
you see that massive VRM on the right side of the board
it's tall
and there's nowhere near space to get my fingers in there
ring cant be rotated?
because on that cooler, orientation does not matter
if i rotate it 90 degrees the pegs don't line up with the mounting holes, and if i go for 180, the handle part of the attachment-thing clashes with the vrm stack
you are going to need more than yourself IF you want to do it the way you suggested
because the "spring" will do its utmost to make it IMpossible without at least 2 more hands [edit:impossible]
you are very welcome :)
the easiest solution for you is to get a different cooler
sorry to say.
i originally was using a hyper 212 evo
because i got one for 2.50
but it's too tall for this case
because those caps are going to be the bane of your life for a number of coolers
what case?
one thing that is nice tho
is the fact that it uses a full ATX PSU
which made getting a good deal on a used power supply easy
so does the Node304 case i am using right now :)
this is a huge contrast to the case my main PC is in
i'm more used to building in things like this
:)
but this pc is for the gf
what cpu is it?
in hers? i5-2500k
stock or oc?
i mean hopefully OC
but that comes once i have it fully built
but this is a really beefy Z77 board
aye, i know
this is an option

Why not go for the nh-l9x65 instead?
@merry crown because of the usecase.
also, from the NH-L9x65 product page
"The NH-L9x65 is a highly-compact low-profile quiet cooler designed for use in small form factor cases and HTPC environments. While it provides first rate performance in its class, it is not suitable for overclocking and should be used with care on CPUs with more than 84W TDP (Thermal Design Power). Please consult our CPU compatibility list and TDP guidelines to find out whether the NH-L9x65 is recommended for your CPU."
now, let is take a little stroll into the land of practical things to remember about the 2500k cpu.

TDP: 95 W
Ive seen video's of that cooler used on a R5 2600 overclocked and usually hits a max of 70c
But just saying what i saw so
yes, because listening to the recommendation of one of the most respected cooler manufacturers would be the easy way out.
C14S is a great cooler
that it is
but I’d probably go for the d9l+ a second 92mm fan
is the h100i platinum a great cooler?
its a cooler
yeah but it’s pretty pricey
im choosing it over the pro because it has a coolIT coldplate
this is the kinda setup I’d go for (d9l and if u want fan swap/extra fan) @topaz blaze https://youtu.be/R-sMP_wIQx8
After my C7 started sounding like a jet turbine under load, I knew it was time for a change. Let's check out some options for my mITX rig!
Amazon (US)
Cryorig C7: http://amzn.to/2eSWyZD
Cryorig M9i: http://amzn.to/2gQ2yCO
Noctua NH-L9i: http://amzn.to/2wNN87U
Noctua NH-D9L: ...
thanks, i'll take a look later
Why are nocta fans so ugly
@remote canyon (if talking about the brown ones) it was/is because they focused on performance first.
Owh
hence why they didnt release the black variant until they could guarantee the same performance
im planning on getting an aio at the front of my case and using the top and back as exhaust which means i will only have the bottom front left for cool intake is that going to mess up my cooling
if anyone can anwser i would be very thankful as its hard finding specifics like this my case is the p400 and im gonna get the front panel with holes in it
you asked that question a while ago didnt you @cinder berry ?
Well, imo the beige noctua fans look pretty nice.
@cinder berry and the answer is that it doesnt matter all that much
should i keep the 3600 stock cooler or should i put on an aio
personally i would not spend the money on an aio
okay
the poor guy with all those problems last night
the secufirm is the BEST mounting system ever
tbh, i will only buy noctua or other coolers that copy that mounting design because of the completely painless process compared to others, CM in particular
the 212s are nightmares
the detents do nothing for retention when you actually put the cooler on
imo the extra money spent is worth it
and it will pay for itself many times over as it should last for more than a few builds presuming you continued using SFF builds
noctua makes all black fans now, btw @remote canyon, they have been doing black coated coolers since october or so
and have been doing black fans for longer
@topaz blaze i invite you to try installing the cooler on this dumb god damn board
it's actually a really excellent board
but the situation of installing a cooler on there makes me wish i could finally die
i am just saying, a bit of homework goes a long way
a few extra bucks on a better design is probably worth it next time
i'd return it and get a different cooler if it's really giving you that many problems
regardless of where the mobo guys put the VRMs, a well designed mounting system especially one for a mitx/low profile cooler would be designed with the constraints in mind
like the noctua mount can be rotated 90*
sounds like more of an issue with the cooler/mounting than the board itself cuz i had one of these boards (maybe not that exact model, but one from asus with the vrms in the same place as both the one i linked here and your mITX board) and had to rotate my mount 90* to fit
or i rotated the cooler
one way or the other, the issue you encountered can be rectified with a different, more well thought out cooler
Hey guys, so im worried that my pc is running too hot. My cpu is a ryzen 5 3600 with stock cooler in a Nzxt h500
Thats the idle temps
Im i just panicking or should i invest in a cpu cooler
Im thinking about getting a Corsair H115i RGB Plat. 280mm
xD
here is a bit of a blast from the past
@topaz blaze yes, good mounting systems are worth a LOT
Any recommendations for budget argb fans?
yeah darkflash
try now @sturdy warren
I've bought that set twice now
they are quiet
only downside.. 2 speeds for fans
so not idea for radiators
My friend has the other version of them
would be better honestly
Nice
I just got some LL120s for my second build to replace my laptop. It’s literally all about looks right now because I’m going to use it for LAN parties once I get a dedicated GPU in it
I also am getting some RGB strips
its a return to their old alu/copper pattern, which, if it is anything like the old cnps, looks fantastic
Not on Amazon or wegg yet tho
should be there shortly.
ocuk has them in stock at the moment
gibbo and crew dont normally have long(if any) exclusive deals
what is "interesting" about the cnps20x is that the way it has beat the d15 is by using 300 grams more metal
1.3kg vs 990grams
which really is one heck of a testimony to the noctua engineers
Oh wow
But Noctua should be able to respond with a d16
And maybe completely wreak everything
there are limits to how much heat you can move at a given noise level with a given amount of material in use
More metal time for Noctua?
potentially.
they are the ones that know exactly what the limits of their current implementations are.
@topaz blaze it's not just the location of the VRM but the sheer size of it
but it doesn't matter because i'm returning this garbage and getting the noctua low profile one suggested
Like d14 was 2009, d15 2014, d16 maybe this year?
actually i think the noctua ones might be outside my price range
:/
ok so i ended up (due to pricing and mounting mechanism) just bought a noctua nh-l9x65
@topaz blaze just dont expect the biggest OC on that 2500k
i'm hoping for a moderate one
but the big thing is like
as long as it beats her existing proc
which is a constantly heat throttled i5-5257U
which, you know
and of course, graphics
just as long as you dont expect magic from a cooler that is not rated for what you are potentially going to do to it
i'm not trying to push it
and if there's problems
don't tell mike i bought through amazon instead of newegg for the sake of a no questions return
hey, i have no direct affiliation, so i dont care about that
@acoustic scarab thats the temp when im playing Overwatch and fortnite and cod about the same
- or - 5
Anyone know if the be quiet dark rock slim is a good cpu cooler?
i had one and loved it for stock speeds for my 8600k and now its on a 4690k and it does well
but that was the pure rock slim so the dark rock will def be better
@gentle shadow if you are staying under 70 while gaming then you are in very good shape
@acoustic scarab thanks
H115 platinum or pro? I heard the plat comes with a new pump
whats the difference between sleeve and hydraulic bearings? and which is better o.o
The differences in case fan bearings, sleeve vs. ball bearings, fluid (hydro) dynamic, and which is best for gaming computers. -
rip lmao
looking for a thin case like fan. about 1/2 inch thick. up to a 120mm size fan
a12x25/a12x15 for 25 and 15mm thick
Help what's the difference and what should I get?
For what
I have a ryzen 7 3800x
Whats ur build rn
Dunno what that is lol
So do I get that one if I have a ryzen 3800x
you probably want the one for 119 then
Thanks
I got most of the parts . Sec
I'm buying my gpu last I gave a 1060 atm lol zzz
Have*
What have you not gotten yet
It's from my old computer lol
I wouldve done this
Mhm yeah understand that
My brother was like my psu might not be nuff lol
Should be nuff
474w on partpicker
Well, for your cooler
My brother telling me to use the stock wraith
I would go for a D15 from noctua
If aggressively overclocking
If not, just the stock yeah
The ryzen 7 stock is really quite good
Yah I guess I'll hold off on a aftermarket one then lol
Is this all for gaming?
And video editing as profession
Ok
Oh yeah wedding videos
I remember
Personally, I would take away a monitor and get a 2080 super
Then buy the other monitor later
@tropic vortex?
the super is not going to add any convenience on the workside of things
But will for gaming
And streaming
Hm. I could monitors and gpu is kinda last for me only cuz I got a 1060 for now to keep by hunger at bay and my 1080p MX279h
Well currently the super and normal are very similar
Dont know about the canadian market tho
@topaz blaze @cold island @burnt goblet thank you
Noctua cooler was just installed so easily
@topaz blaze happy to hear :)
now you know first hand why people (especially people that build a LOT of systems) love noctua coolers

rofl
Box are those Fluidgaming kits decent?
$143 for CPU and GPU cooling sounds like a steal
but it works, if you want to get into custom cooling, ek fluid gaming is where its at
Man
Now I'm really thinking about getting the fluidgaming one
It's $240 on Newegg
I just read that the GPU block is mostly compatible with reference cards
Any recommended rgb case fans? Either 120 or 140 don't matter
Any deals on the Corsair h60 with led
The only reason to hate on aluminum in a loop is that you have to make sure that you don't throw any copper parts in the mix.
If I had the money I would totally buy the $90 ek kit just to play around with.
Has any ever tried the corsair hydro x custom water cooling? Looks pretty good to the eye
most AIO's are copper and aluminum......provided you use the proper additive it's a moot point.
I installed 4 new fans to my PC and non of them are spinning. I used a fan splitter for all the 4 fans. Do I need to do something in bios for them to work
Where did you plug them in? What header?
My system 2 fan pin
its 2 pins?
System 2 header?
Might need to set a fan curve in the BIOS yeah or possibly in software for your motherboard
Can you send me a link on how to do that
Need to know what motherboard.........
msi-B450 pro-vdh
Thank you very much
YW
Switching fan mode and adjusting fan speed
You can switch between PWM mode and DC mode and adjust fan speed in BIOS >
HARDWARE MONITOR.
ok
ya, with the proper fluid and timely fluid changes mixed metals isn't the end of the world. But still its ideal to not mix. I have an old corsair AIO that I pulled apart and the copper on it still looks great, but I dont know what the aluminum rad looks like inside. usually its the aluminum that gets eat up in mixed metal.
I should find a picture of my old gpu block after many years of use. its full of holes
H100 I think?
mine was an h105. the copper looked perfect. I was actually really amazed. it had a little bit of a white solid one particular fin. makes me think maybe some foreign body was in the loop and caused some kind of reaction to form it.
Possibly the anti-corrosives just flat wore out. They are only good for a certain amount of time
That almost makes me wonder if it's not cavitation
From the water moving through the block for years
aluminum top copper bottom. you can see the holes in the aluminum
That's a real thing in car engines, causes pitting and erosion. Looks like corrosion but it's not
it also had some build up on it, but I didn get a picture of that before i cleaned it.
Ah, probably the additive going away
This one was from around 2003 or 04. I ran it on a few different systems over about 5 years.
That's a typical life expectancy for an AIO anyway, IMO. Not bad.
this was the gpu block from a custom loop.
Oh, how long was it installed? Yo umentioned H105 above.
I still have a corsair H50 from 2009 that works
Its cooling a pentium right now, but if I can find the am4 bracket for it in my office I am going to put it on my 3000g.
That'd keep it nice and cool
ya, it actually gets pretty toasty. I have been using it for overclocking.
Kinda not surprised with an integrated GPU
I had the wraith prism on it for a few days and it would get up to around 80C but that was with 1.5-1.55v
now i have a wraith spire on it. but I have just been playing with ram overclock
1.5 volts? WHEW!
ya, it was $50 so I am not too worried about killing it
I dont want to kill my 2700x or 2600 so I dont really push either of them
but this thing, I am hoping I will be able to get 4.4ghz one night when its cold
nah, the prism is good. it keeps my 2600 under 60C at 4ghz. but I had the core on this at 1.55v, soc was at 1.4, the igpu was at 1.4v
was trying to get some max speed runs in 3dmark, but it wasnt stable. couldnt get all of the overclocks to work together. It was mostly the ram. Its not completely stable at 3933. after that attempt I had to put my 2600 system back together so the prism went back in that pc.
I don't plan on trying to use the spire with those kind of voltages.
yeah no lol. Watercooling might help until it gets heat soaked
This was the highest ram overclock I managed to get stable. Pretty decent considering that these things are built on zen+ and not zen 2. 3933 will run, but it eventually blue screens after about 20 minutes.
I don't think I ever posted this here. 3 stock coolers. left is wraith spire from my 2600, middle is the cooler that came with my 3000g, right is the stock intel cooler for a kaby lake pentium
How hard do y’all think custom water cooling is
I want to go all out and splurge for the best looking best performing cooling
I’ve only ever done air cooling
No water cooling AIO or anything
Do y’all think it would be hard for me to build a water loop from no previous water cooling experience
yes
@warm comet the stock low profile intel one
or at least it looks like the lowprofile one
@fast thicket depends on if you do soft or hard
And the distance of your tubes
The hard part is buying everything and making sure you get everything you need and that it works and its enough
Under 100% load, my dual 130w TDP CPUs maxed out at like 48C
So it's totally worth it
@burnt goblet yes, its low profile. honestly the thickness of all 3 heatsinks are very similar.
but, density is fairly different iirc
and the low profile intel one is light as all heck
I have a scale I could weigh them with, but just holding them in my hand I would say the stock intel cooler is a good 20% lighter than the athlon cooler.
Intel is so cringe for stock cooling
(for that generation at least)
on my stock ryzen 9 cooler i accadentally brushed a bit of the thermal paste on the plastic casing, can i still use it or do i need to re-apply
the spire is installed, but its considerably heavier than the other two. much more fin density with the amd coolers. Both amd coolers are pretty much the same fins, but the athlon one has a smaller slug in the middle and has been cut to a square instead of a circle.
depending on your definition of "a bit" it wont matter @polar ravine
Hows the 3600 stock cooler btw
now I am curious how much they weigh. I needed to go in that room for something anyway.
gotcha
3600 stock
like literally none at all, just enough to notice
55 idle on mine xD i dont know maybe need to resit
@polar ravine dont worry about it :)
the other one is for 2400g
i sold it to some kid i know
i sold it for 100$ 2400g + stock cooler + receipt.. it has 3 years warranty.. only used 7 months
XD i really need to get that 3600
@burnt goblet thanks
Oh lol same
Have you seen the vid where you can unlock the 5700?
It gives you performance similar to 5700xt
yeah
Cool
yeah i dont do any exp on my card xD
@polar ravine you are very welcome, and congrats on the new build :)
yeah man, thank you
ram and power supply is coming in monday i hope
that’ll be all i need
I pulled them apart and weighed just the aluminum. both parts weight exactly 95 grams
Nice
@polar ravine do yourself a favour and test boot it outside the case :)
@warm comet hm, cheers for the trivia info :)
@burnt goblet gotcha, thanks for the advice
@azure crown aight thx. Yea I’m doing soft tubing
there is a little black fleck on my thermal pad on my stock ryzen 9 9300x cooler and i have no idea how to get it off without ruining the thermal pad
anyone have any clue?
needle
Lick it
The wraith prism is fine as cooler, but for a $500 chip like a 3900x many would suggest investing in a $5 tube of MX-4 along with a $80 air cooler like a Noctua D15, BeQuiet dark rock pro 4, $50 Scythe ninja or mugen 5.
https://www.https://www.arctic.ac/us_en/freezer-34-esports.html this is the one i have its 40
Any deals on a Corsair liquid cooler
So can anyone lend me a little bit of help im trying to do a custom loop for a pc build in a few months but I was wondering if anyone knew of any reservoir's, Cpu, 2070s cooler, and a pump
im not too knowledgeable of it this would be my first ever time building and id like to do a nice loop but i have no idea where to start or let alone how to find it all
@left matrix idk much either, but EK waterblocks has a lot of stuff
So check out their website
okay thank you
@left matrix hardline or soft tubing?
wish to save money when possible?
Cuz I mean Bykski has custom RGB loop kits (CPU/GPU block, 360mm rad, small reservoir, pump, soft tubing) for $250 or so
ekwb has a pretty decent configurator to see what kinda parts you need, i'd check other companies for cheaper parts cause theirs are pretty pricey for what they offer
Yea i found and did a custom set up with soft tubing because i dont own a heat gun, but the whole thing is tubing, res and pump combo, with coolant and rad and fans for 370 in total on Ekwb but i will get out Bykski thank you @magic sparrow and @cold island
@left matrix Is that the ekwb fluid gaming stuff? Apparently there are some issues with the blocks not coming tight enough. That I cant really confirm much because basically no info on that
Uh I think so and damn I it might I’ll check out bykski before I buy tho I still got time I gotta save about $1500-1900 depending on if I do a nvlink so just trying to get a idea of budgets on stuff
I’m new to this pc thing and had one of my friends build my current setup I wanna upgrade my cpu cooler to liquid cooled. How hard would it be to do myself?
Unless its custom. Which it sounds like it isn’t.
liquid cooling is not magically going to make your system better/faster
I have the wraith cooler that came with my ryzen 7 2700x and it just gets so loud
get a bigger air cooler
it will be cheaper
and the work for installing it will be less
Any you recommend?
I bought a cooler master cooler but we couldn’t figure out how to install it properly
@raven bane some of the mounting systems used by fx cooler master are fairly ... silly ...
be quiet! Dark Rock 4, BK021, 200W TDP, CPU Cooler https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BYP9S95/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_plyqEbY23W7K7
This one I like @true siren but I think their are some better for the price.
Thanks! @sturdy warren
the Dark Rock 4 is fine
its a bit cheaper vs the black version of the Noctua NH-u12s (which is 70usd)
ofc there is the "tastefully retro coloured" variant of the NH-u12s which is 60
that
I’ll have to check those out after work. Thanks so much
You’re welcome @true siren
@true siren you are very welcome :)
#cpus-mobo-and-memory help pls
@raven bane and to answer you, i personally dont see a point in it.
the amount of headroom for OC on 3700x and the others in the same family, is very small
let the built-in systems do what they want and focus on using your system instead of what the benchmark scores say
ok thanks
Macho Rev C for $44 that has a black cover on the top would probs be a better option
so im mostly going for the astetic on water cooling and doing a hard loop, have expericance on bending and moulding tubing. Is there a prefrence in the 2 main companies ive seen around for parts? with EKWB and Bitspower?
Yeah pretty much @heavy lake
Im just debating what GPU i want to do
Depends on budget
just trying to figure out if i wanna rog strix gaming x or arourus
kinda ruled out the arorus since water block takes away everything astetic from it
but idk why the powercolor liquid devil looks really sexy to me
can Ek and Bitspower parts work together?
im noticing parts from both areas i like wonder if they are compatable with eachother
like water block and back plate from EK but the distro block, lian li flat res and pump and cpu block from bitspower.
true
and at $600 its worth just going invidia at that point
im familiar with the stats and benchmarks on cards
ill put a part picker list in just a sec
Mk
This is the basis of what ive selected so far https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wszgFG
I have about 12 LL120s on hand so RGB is a thing, also need to figure out the radiators if i wanna go thick or slims
Lemme change it a bit gimme a sec
I already have the ram and SSD, just realised there is 2 of same NVMEs that should be only 1
You have already bought them?
Ive had them from past builds that i ended up doing something diffrent
Yeah uh
That dominator platinum is a ripoff
Ill add in what I would get ok
But whats max budget
I got 32GB of the plat RGB for $60 no issues
Oh for 60
4x 8GB sticks
i agree
I need to know
with that list if i bought the rog strix 2080ti OC it leaves about 700 for the loop
Mk
idk i like matching boards to gpus and stuff like that
kinda why i went corsair with basically everything
PSU ram and fans lol
easier to set up RGB sync i guess
even though 9/10 times im running static colors
lol
I wonder if asus makes a white strix 2080ti OC
They do I think
but then id have to find a board, meh who knows
👀
Are you going for a white aesthetic?
Mk
I know the white lian li dynamic looks good
id like to put a 100w in it, once the end of year hits and the 300 series ividia cards hit and 200 cards drop, im heavily thinking about SLI
I put the pricefor the 2080ti in manually
Idk how much it will cost
So you might have ti wait
imma look around for it real quick
Its not out
actually
just thinking about it
the color on the GPU dosent matter
its getting water blocked
lol
just do the nickel backplate lol
nah, ive been wanting to do a hard loop for about 5-6 years now
Mk
I wonder head to head what board is better overall from Asus, the X570 Pro ot the E gaming
on the lian li dynamic EK makes the replacable distro block for the front tempered glass can i run that in tandem with the Flat resevuor that bitspower makes that goes along the front inside the case?
https://shop.bitspower.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=7163
https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-classic-dp-front-pc-o11d-d-rgb-spc-pwm-5801
can these be ran together in the same case
Bitspower Touchaqua Sedna O11D for LIAN LI O11 DYNAMIC (PWM)
The EK-Classic Distroplate Front PC-O11D SPC PWM D-RGB - Plexi, is specifically designed to provide a comprehensive water cooling solution for the most popular water cooling case on the market, the Lian Li PC-O11D. It embodies the EK-Classic ideals of budget-conscious SPC pump...
@heavy lake why would you need 2?
question for anyone using a dark rock pro 4, which way do you orient the fans? the logical way to me is to have them work with the exhaust and push out the back, but just curious of anyone has them aimed towards the front.
If you want to watercool any card get the FE/reference
much better block support and cheaper blocks
So then what suggestions do you have for me with a cooler @burnt goblet
the stock one
because this is an updated build list
i changed a fair amount of things
it is a bit cheaper, and faster on all fronts
(aside from the mechanical harddrive, which is the same as you had)
Any white mother boards?
what is most important to you
performance or how it looks?
Both. But just wondering if there was a good white mobo
not in that range iirc
Ok
And if i seem that I'm being annoying I'm sorry 😅. I just wanted a good PC and really do appreciate all the feed back.
you are not being annoying.
i was just looking for that one white board i know about
it is currently priced at close to 200 usd
because sadly it has not been in regular circulation since january last year
And I can always add a cooler and other components later on.
the stock cooler is fine
re: the x470 board you started with, you can use that if you want
but i would fairly strongly recommend that you change the other parts
that is how the list looks with the x470
and with that posted, i will have to run. Post any questions either here or in #building-and-recc-chat
Ok thank you!

What is a great company to order for custom water cooling parts?
EKWB is like the Apple of watercooling
Alphacool has decent parts
If looking more on the cheap side, go Bykski or Barrow
XSPC also has a few parts, not a huge selection tho
But, XSPC and Alphacool are the only companies to make crossflow rads
Which are really nice
What would Corsair hydro x be for custom loop
apple but with a higher price and rgb
do you think a single fan radiator version of the Kraken Z series will come out
probably not the Z line since its the super high end and 120mm/140mm dont cool super well, but maybe the new X lineup
my case cant fit the 280mm radiator but the front fan area probably can, should I just swap all my fans to make it work? I only have 1 output fan so now i will only have 1 input and then 4 out
okay im new to pc's but why does the NZXT water cooling stuff have no visible water
is it in them wire like tubes
some have clear tubes others don't
most all in one water coolers don't have clear tubes in fact
@topaz blaze yeah it comes with the water already in the tubes, you just have to attach it to your case and cpu
I have a 2700x. Any suggestions for a AIO water cooling system?
you guys see that Corsair cpu air cooler? the A500. it looks pretty good, maybe rival DRP4 and noctua dh15
@tender flicker yes, its a simple one, dont waste money on it. It is a very expensive light strip
@supple jay look at zalman instead, they have a cooler that seems to beat the dh15
wouldnt be surprised if that Corsair cooler would be $90+. At which point is pretty eh because of all the other companies that exist. Scythe, Thermalright, Zalman (Im taking Naed's word on this as I havent heard of them)
https://www.kitguru.net/components/leo-waldock/zalman-cnps20x-and-cnps17x-noctua-look-out/ <- here is a bit of reading @magic sparrow, if you want to ofc
it is basically a 2 coloured nh15 that is 300 grams heavier
it also has a slight bit of rgb
its a bit of a weird design, but then again, that is zalman in a nutshell
(look up the flower heatsinks from them)
But anyways
I was confused why the d15s that were sent were different
that is the flower models
in the video
listen to what he says
production differences and/or changes in the fan variables
etc etc
there are plenty of places you could look at and point at, as likely causes
but 3c was what was interesting to me
it closed the margins a good bit, tho the zalman still beats d15
I'd love to see it available in the US still tho
(and the mass reviewing of the cooler)
Yea Noctua does their work well, just hope they don't become another apple that stops their innovation
well, the big one is available in a local shop here in town, and i am not in the UK
it is however more expensive vs the d15
really? I thought on the review the MSRP was like 60$
suggested retail price
this looks like the importers retail store
keep in mind, we have some fairly nasty taxes etc here
ah I see
the nh-d15 is 91,5 usd
the cnps20x is 112 usd
keep in mind, that is AFTER our taxes etc have been applied
you will have little to any luck translating the local cost here back into actual US retail price
what IS very interesting is the fairly massive difference in cost no matter the currency thou [edit:currency]
we'll have to see how it goes
aye
going to be interesting to see when more sites get their grubby little mitts on both models
surprisingly, theres one listing on ebay for a zalman cooler when I look up cnps20x, but its an international listing for a different cooler
hehe
second guy cannot read
read exactly what the first person says
"it does pretty well lol, but if you absolutely have to have RGB fans i believe you can change out the included ones ..........."
well, let me rephrase that
the person asking the question is either trolling or on serious need of some education
the first person answering it does so with a bit of humour and a valid observation.
the second person answering could, imo, provide more context
and you @maiden steppe should not crop things like that :P
@burnt goblet
here ye go
was probably a joke
lol
but besides that
any of yall got a good fclga1151 rgb cpu fan for me?
none of that actually tells anyone what you are looking for, in a way where they can actually effectively help you
What are some good, cheap case fans I can get? I want to put more lights into my build cause its kinda bland right now, but I don't have enough experience with this stuff yet. It doesn't matter if its full RGB or just single color and I would need preferably 4, but 3 would do. I was hoping maybe no more than $60. Any recommendations?
awesome, thanks!
I use them, they are really nice.
pretty quiet too on radiators at 100%
75% is pretty much silent
that's almost 1,500 rpm
1,800 at full
yea noise isnt much of a concern for me, as long as they arent deafening and actually move air, i dont care that much
oh yeah you'll like em.
cool, thanks
anyone have an opinion of the Thermaltake Riing Plus RGB? Thinking of buying a three pack (please mention me)
@topaz blaze honestly they look like great fans but they may not be able to be controlled by RGB software, i am not sure about that
and that might be a concern because you couldn't really control them then without some kind of controller hardware
does anyone know how to fix loud fans even during idle? I built a new PC and i have 6 fans inside and all of them are running, including the 2 fans on my RTX 2060. I installed all the drivers and updated... do I need to tweak the BIOS?
Plz mention me i need help
not sure if i’m over exaggerating
you would need to have a look at where/how your fans are connected
because based on that picture, and taking into account what you said above, you are missing 1 fan
3 in the picture, 2 on the GPU
that is 9 fans
so, they are going into some kind of fan-hub somewhere
because based on the picture above, you are only connecting to 3 "control" points on the mainboard
so i need to connect the other 3 to the main board as well?
thats enough
that's the complete list
looks like you have a cable splitter.
the first picture you posted. bottom right of that, there is a Q-fan button
in there you should have the tools for handling it
the CHA1/2/3 fans are the ones you need to mess around with
or you could click on the silent option
ah, so if the temp is around 40 C, i should set the fans to like 20%?
but, as mentioned, leave the CPU fan one alone
mess with the CHA1/2/3 ones
those are the ones making a racket in general
i see
turns out i am super dumb
there is a fan calibration button.....
@burnt goblet but thanks for ur help
@eternal socket you should also have this on your desktop https://i.gyazo.com/82e0b612ac7dbc788f1bb3e0f5ba5472.png
Just saying could always play with the fan curve on there as well
@merry crown which program is that?
Asus AI Suite III
ty
Im doing my first water cooling on my next build. I got the heat gun to do the bend. I know I'm missing something to put inside the hard tube and I cannot remember the name. Which is the best tool to cut the ascrylic hard tube? and what was teh name of the item you put inside hard tube?
during heating
its a sillicone insert, you just need to be sure to get the right diameter https://www.amazon.com/PrimoChill-Rigid-Silicone-Bending-Insert/dp/B01K2732UK?tag=gnviglinkanywhere-20
Hey, I have a problem
it’s going to be hard to explain, but I need a cpu cooler, that dousnt screw in to the mobo.
Does anyone have any idea?
Umm some coolers use a latch but there is still a noun screwed into mobo
@cold island how do I know it's the right diameter? I will have a 10mm/16mm acrylic hard tube.
@cold island I appreciate the link. Little nervous and been watching so many videos
buy 10mm, that’s the inner diameter
Got it
but I’d probably watch other videos cause I’m not the most knowledgeable with hard line
@cold island appreciate it man. This makes me feel like when I was building my first build lol. I ordered am extra ser of tubes to practice on as well.
yeah water cooling looks like a really fun project :) always good to have extra
water cooling sounds scary to build
And that's why #aircoolinggang
@low pumice for real
If i were to ask about case fans would I do it in here or in #cases-psu-and-cooling
Here
ight
what are some good value case fans
idc that much about acoustics, just some that are semi-cheap, and hopefully black
or rgb
id be willing to do like $25 total at most
Hmmmm lemme do something
ight
epic thx
Does anyone know the specs on these screws/posts? I have the bracket and I need to make sure I have the right hardware before my build this sunday but I can't find the details on these screws.
correct, however I build a lot of PC's and reuse parts often. I've misplaced the original packaging and I have a load of screws and posts...I just wasn't sure what size I needed
You are a box bruh
but what you posted does look like the am4 posts.
if memory is correct.
I think the intel had longer threads.
this is 100% the correct posts from Corsair's site. But they do not mention the size.
I have a number of similar posts and screws in a box in various lengths. If I use the wrong ones, the cooler will not make solid contact with the CPU. I'm looking to understand and ensure I have the correct ones prior to build rather than trial and error
So, I have my case fans connected via sata power. Is there a way to connect them to the SysFan to control the speed based on the temperature?
Youd need a fan hub I believe @eternal token
Hello, friends! Does the Fluid Gaming A240R Complete Dual 120mm Water / Liquid Cooling Kit 240mm with EK-AC Radeon Vega GPU Block fit on the GIGABYTE AMD Radeon RX VEGA56 Gaming OC 8G - GV-RXVEGA56GAMING OC-8GD ???
Be careful with fluid gaming. Apparently have issues with shipping out their blocks with untightened screws thus causing leaking. I'd go for Barrow/Bykski as they are slightly cheaper, full copper, and could have RGB depending on the model you get
Guys if I have a mid range build and I'm not planning or wanting to overclock can I use the fan that comes with the CPU eg an amd one?
Cus I'm in high school and my mates are saying to save the money from buying another CPU fan like Corsair
Yes, got a link to a pcpartpicker? Describe your vision of your intended use case. What prorgams? What current issues with your setup cause frustration?
Nah I don't have any issues but I'm looking to get a new rig since I only have had an old one and I'll be using it for gaming and prolly school work
I'll try and make the one I'm gonna get
On pcpartpicker
Sounds like a 3600, 2x8GB , 500GB nvme drive, $80 PSU, $20 in tools, $100-250 GPU, $50-100 case, $10 paste, etc
Is that Aus or us?
US.
$620 us is around the "sweet spot" for bang for buck , it's a local maxima on the performance vs price curve
Ok
Do you reckon that I need a fan or no
Cus like I can but it'll be nice to save if I don't need it
CPU fan that is
@hasty sable no need for an extra CPU fan. Also you can get better for the price
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/4HmJp8
Ok thanks
Hey guys, i had a question. I just built my second pc, im using the Wraith Prism cooler but i want something better. I was planning on getting a Cooler Master ML240L. My question is, can i swap the fans that come on the rad to the fans that i already have in my case?
Yup
@gentle whale why get an aio?
Because they want one.
the question is: What do you think you will gain from going with an AIO?
no the question was " can i swap the fans that come on the rad to the fans that i already have in my case"
so the answer is yes, @gentle whale
if your case fans are 120mm 😄
They are
then ya, no issue
@burnt goblet i just feel that if i went with the Hyper 212, its just so bulky in the case.
I have one in my last build that i gave to my sister
consider this, air cooling = an amount of metal on top of your cpu
aio = an amount of metal somewhere else in the case
Yeah i know. Which one has better cooling. Im running a 2600x
and do you actually plan on trying to OC the pants of the cpu?
D15 or equivalent gang @frail thorn
I would love to get a D15 just to test it. But thats a lot of money for a cooler that I don't really need.
the ones advertised with the am4 bracket are way too expensive on newegg
Wierd
@warm comet I got my NH-D15 SE-AM4 same price as normal d15..?
https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NH-D15-SE-AM4-Premium-Grade-Cooler/dp/B01NC06ZYT/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=nh-d15+se-am4&qid=1582310394&sprefix=nh-d15+&sr=8-5
Eventually I will get one. Too many other things on the list for now
The only seller that has them on Newegg is first from asia and they have 3 different listings. the cheapest is $140 and the the others are $180
Not saying you need or even should buy it
Noctua SHOULD logically be dropping out a d16 sometime this year
Anyways the Amazon link is sold from Noctua, and sold at same price as normal d15
There is one for the same price on newegg and it lists am4, but its not the am4 model number
could just get the chromax. pretty sure it comes with the brackets
Interesting
Wierd
I bought the SE-AM4 from Amazon iirc
I was able to get it from noctua
but it seems its no longer avaliable
https://www.newegg.com/noctua-nh-d15-se-am4/p/13C-0005-00111?Item=9SIAADY5BC1607
@warm comet the whole "specific version for am4" was a stopgap thing.
I know, but you never know when you will get old stock.
hopefully never. Because FIFO should be in effect in any warehouse
Designed in Austria, Noctua's premium cooling components are renowned for their superb quietness, exceptional performance and thoroughgoing quality.
Since Newegg has a product description with AM4 listed but in the specs it is not then I would have to assume they still have old product on the shelf. Its not like they will pull product they have already paid for off the shelf and dispose of it. The same can not be assumed for motherboard bios either. Anytime you order a product that was manufactured before and after another product was released unless its specified you have to assume the possibility of old stock unless you can hold it in your hand before purchase.
newegg have plenty of descriptions that are wonky
well
Noctua ships free mounting brackets if you do get a unit that doesn't have the bracket
also, here is a nice example of wonky
what exactly is a "d-type"
because they sure as .... dont explain that anywhere
and they link directly to a bog standard d15 page
will the amd wraith spire fan fit on my ryzen 5 3600? i know the spire comes stock with teh 3600x
i just want the LED ring tbh..
it will
you can take any "higher up the rank" heatsink and use down the stack
@sudden wasp does that answer it for you?
sweet, thanks a lot. @burnt goblet
anytime :)
So heres the situation, looking for advice.
-I am running a i7 7700 and GTX 1060
-My PC has been running a bit loud lately (and maybe hot?).
-Speccy is reporting both my GPU and CPU are running about 80F under low load.
-About 30C each.
-I have been running roughly the same build for about 4-6 years now.
-I have cleaned the system (after neglecting to clean it for quite some time) and applied new paste to the CPU and GPU
-I am running a Corsair H100i v2 cooler currently and believe that it may be the source of the noise.
-Someone has recommended the Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Edition.
-My CPU temps seem to be fine even while gaming but my GPU seems to struggle temp wise (looking at maybe getting a better GPU soon).
-Trying to figure out if I should continue AIO cooling or switch to Air Cooling and if the temps would be much different either way and what recomendations are out there for cooling.
@autumn ice for CPU and GPU that is quite cool
proper measurements for temps as well is C not F
Its more of a noise issue, its driving me nuts and I am not sure if the AIO I have isnt dying?
play with the fan curves if your AIO fans are connected to your motherboard and use something like MSI Afterburner to play with your GPU fan curve
Also 80F is about 26C
now if you were at like 180F then there would be some problems
I stopped all fans including my GPU fan except the fans on my AIO because I would have to remove them, the 30C is average, its bouncing around a bit
Noise still persisted but it sounds like the radiator and maybe the pump?
You do clean the rad right
if not use compressed air (air duster) and blow out any dust that might be on it
I didnt know how to removed the front plate of the PC so it sat for about 4-5 years without ever being cleaned and it was cacked unfortunately..
But it is fairly clean now
yo, I have a R5 3600X with stock cooler right now and temps are fine (max 76) but it's a little noisy
do you guys think cooler master hyper 212 rgb black edition is worth it for $35
no
I'm looking more for quieter operation than significantly better thermals
trying to find a video that compares noise levels
as far as thermals go I'm satisfied with stock
but if I can get a cooler that does as well or slightly better without being as loud for cheap then I'm interested
@low pumice Why do you think it is not worth it
I have open backed headphones so even while listening to music my cpu fan is audible sometimes
I have the 212 Evo RGB and i hit a max of 47c on load and it is very quiet
I also isolated the noise to the cpu fan by going into bios and individually setting each fan to 100% one at a time
may I ask what cpu and what clock speed
R5 2600
I've left my 3600X on PBO and 3dmark reports 4.325 GHz
just want some perspective for that 47C
my highest cpu temp is 76 in 3dmark
Technically the Wrath coolers are aftermarket since they are made by Cooler Master
@low pumice well the point here is noise, the 212 seems to be significantly quieter from what I've seen
like I said my stock cooler is fine in a pure thermals performance vacuum
when stock is an option
