#

How do you feel about it? Do you think it’s worth it for the price?

serene siren
#

definitely think a 4000D airflow over it if you wanted corsair, or p360a

#

I didn't mind it, but it felt like, the space wasn't well used

#

If they made it slightly longer, top 360's could work for example

#

or if they added more depth to the back, cables wouldn't be much of an issue

#

4000D airflow is a newer case and I believe it addressed the cable thing, it's also much cheaper

#

also 465x has that generic vertical mount which is useless for most people

#

Yeah, thinking on it, temps weren't really that bad with it but it just wasn't great in general @normal shadow lol

normal shadow
#

Ok thanks. I’ll look into the 4000d too

Was planning on making a smol pc build with my old 1070 and maybe a 2600x... And I saw this flexatx PSU on Amazon rated for 500w, but it does not have any 6+2pin for GPU, I was thinking if I could buy an adapter like molex to 6+2 or SATA to 6+2, could anyone tell me if it could be safe, and if the current is enough or will the PSU explode
Here are the "specs":

#

Using something like this, not sure if only one SATA will handle 150w, maybe the 2*SATA to 6+2 is better

mild roost
#

one sata can handle 50w

#

so you'll need like a lot more

tame cape
tame cape
mild roost
#

eh nope

#

it'll melt

tame cape
#

Is it 50w physically? Like the melting point?

mild roost
#

yes

tame cape
#

I'll watch some random dude trying the 2*SATA adapter

#

Btw they're selling some 1sata to 6+2, that's like really bad

#

It's not safe

#

It's 100w more

#

Compared to the 50w the SATA can handle

#

Ooh
Wait
I saw Molex can go up to 132w, that would be enough I guess

#

Tell me what could be the best for the 1070, considering I have 3×SATA, 1×Molex and one FDD connector (don't know what that is) I'd like to keep one SATA for an SSD/HDD just in case

upbeat dew
#

just get a real psu, with a gpu connector... they are pretty cheap these days

#

instead of trying some dangerous contraptions

tame cape
#

First of all: I'm trying to make a small computer and I need a flex ATX PSU
Second: prices aren't good for me on the Italian market
Third: dangerous contraption? Guess if I use something like 2/3 SATA or a molex is good enough, 2 sata would provide 110w, my 1070 rarely spikes to 140 with UV.

#

Also I guess 140w on the 1070 isn't all from the 8pin, I guess its from motherboard too

upbeat dew
#

i remember using a molex to 8 pin on my old 750ti

tame cape
#

I think something like 20w is given by the MB

upbeat dew
#

75w are given from the pcie

tame cape
#

Most newer cards will use less power from PCIe

upbeat dew
#

the card try to balance the wattage from all sources

#

you will never have 75 from pcie and 0 from the connector

tame cape
#

Or else a 3090 would have 2x8 and 1x6pin instead of 3*8pin

upbeat dew
#

power is not given, is pulled... the pcie CAN provide 75 watts max, that doesnt mean the card will pull 75 alwys from there, but it could if needed

tame cape
#

Yeah srry, for some reason I said the mb gives power... Lol

upbeat dew
#

power hungry 3090s have 3 additional connector providing 150w each, thats a total of 450+75 extra from pci max

#

your card can pull 150+75 but that doesnt mean it will pull all the wattage from a single connector... it will balance it

tame cape
#

All 1070 pull a max of 150w

upbeat dew
#

much like my old 750ti... 60tdp yet using an additional 6 pin connector

tame cape
#

(maybe there are some exception for those that pull 170/180w)

upbeat dew
#

theoretically 150 max your card, but you need to account for spikes, thats why they have a lot of headroom on input

fierce pivot
tame cape
tame cape
#

Pato would you recommend a 2*SATA to 6+2pcie?

#

I guess the one I'm going to buy it's the same from amazon

#

This one is fire hazard

#

100w overload

#

I looked on Amazon for a "good" one, and also saw a bad one. the bad one looked like it had really thin wires, the good one has 18AWG wires, they're the same as the most used for pc cable extension. Guess will work fine, however the part that usually gets hot is near the SATA connector pins but I don't think it'll get over 50C at 140w
I could still undervolt the GPU to get it to 130 to be even safer

#

I could put a 40 mm fan near the cables to keep it cool and get more airflow in the smol case

How much power does EPS 4 pin connector provide? (Not 4+4pin) only 4

That's enough for the 1070

What’s the best possible psu you can get for 150$

#

Top tier full modular and all the goodies

dire ginkgo
sand atlas
#

Nope

#

Not fully

dire ginkgo

sand atlas
#

ATX 3.0 power supplies are coming starting at the end of this month, they require a whole new design

dire ginkgo
#

What do you think the pricing will be

sand atlas
#

Those are the ones that have the new 12VHPWR connector for 40 series Nvidia

#

No idea on price

dire ginkgo
#

Will the amd require a new psu

sand atlas
#

It's not so much that a new PSU is required, adapters will exist for the 12VHPWR connector but they won't support the full 600W of power, only 450W, and you'll need to connect 3x 8 pin connectors to the adapter

dire ginkgo
#

Ok

#

I just built my pc and I got everything but the gpu

sand atlas
#

But if transient loads are causing the current PSUs to trip constantly then next gen with much more power draw will definitely trip protections

dire ginkgo
#

And the only part I didn’t really look into was the psu and I’ve recently realized it’s not the greatest

#

What do you recommend I do

sand atlas
#

Which one did you get?

dire ginkgo
#

EVGA Supernova 650 GT, 80 Plus Gold 650W

#

It’s completely fine with my current build

#

But I need a new gpu

sand atlas
#

That would be fine with up to a 3070 ti

dire ginkgo
#

Should I just get that or wait till next gen and get a new gpu&psu

sand atlas
#

Well how badly do you need the new GPU, because prices are great right now but the new AMD models are scheduled to launch in a few months (nvidia might be delayed to the end of the year)

dire ginkgo
#

I’m using a gtx 1070 and I just upgraded everything but it

#

So I’m looking to get one

sand atlas
#

Ok, well unless you're doing 1440p high quality gaming at 200+ fps you probably don't really need more than a 3070 anyway

#

That would be the way I would go

dire ginkgo
#

How much does it cost

sand atlas
#

It's only $15 more than the cheapest, lesser models so I'd go with the Gaming Z

#

$595

dire ginkgo
#

That price is better than I expected

sand atlas
#

Right? Retail prices have been dropping like crazy finally

#

This is almost what you'd expect to pay for a top model card of the current generation, just a bit over msrp

dire ginkgo
#

Oh

#

Should I wait for it to go even lower

sand atlas
#

If you play that game you'll be in an endless waiting cycle. It probably won't go much lower until next gen launches, and you'll only save maybe $50 before then (just a guess, can't 100% tell with current market)

dire ginkgo
#

Is a amd card cheaper? If so what features do I miss out on

sand atlas
#

Yes they're cheaper, and the only real compromises are less raytracing performance (current games don't use it well anyway, except minecraft) and a slightly worse media encoder

dire ginkgo
#

What’s a media encoder

#

Also how much cheaper

sand atlas
#

Most people only use the encoder for streaming

#

$470 for a good model 6700 XT

#

Slightly below the 3070 in performance

#

Or $500 for a 6750 XT that matches the 3070 much better

dire ginkgo
#

Why do you use a nvidia card then

sand atlas
#

Previously nvidia had a lot more features that AMD couldn't match, but AMD has expanded their feature set so they have equivalent (or better in some cases) options

dire ginkgo
#

If I intend on building this for next gen stuff like starfield to last a minute would it be best to wait for new cards or get the AMD

sand atlas
#

Nvidia is also easier to overclock if that's your game

#

Well what resolution do you intend to play at, because that is pretty demanding

dire ginkgo
#

3440x1440

#

I have a ultra wide monitor

sand atlas
#

We still have no idea how that game will perform on anything but they do recommend a 2070 for 1440p, so I'd say the 6750 XT will be fine

dire ginkgo
#

I think I’m gonna get the 6750 XT

#

Thanks for the help

There's the sense pins to think about too though

tame cape
#

Huh?

sand atlas

You'd have to ground pin 4 on the adapter to make it a sense pin

#

Sense is ground

tame cape
#

This is the connector I bought

#

(bought from AliExpress 2€)

tame cape
sand atlas
#

Most of the ones I've seen catch fire were from aliexpress

blissful thistle
#

I would never trust anything to do with pcs from Ali express except maybe a USB cable

sand atlas
#

Well they have good replacement fans for GPUs too

#

How much wattage do you plan to put through that cable?

#

That EPS connector can only handle maybe 250W max before it melts

#

And that's assuming they used OEM grade plastic on the connector, which I doubt

tame cape
#

130w only at max stress load

sand atlas
#

Oh it's for a 1070? Weird they would even have a dual 8 pin on that

#

Should be ok but don't run it when you're not watching it

tame cape
#

I mean, it's just enough, 4pin EPS to one 6+2, provides 144w

past harbor
#

+75 from slot. Should be fine

sand atlas
#

I would not count on that connector pushing near the spec for PCIe but since it's for a low power application it "should" be fine

#

Right there, 2 wires one pin and I'm guessing it's the same on the other side

#

Now assuming it's 18 gauge cabling it's probably ok at that length but any smaller cables and I'd run for the hills

tame cape
#

Ok, anyway my 1070 will get only to 120w during gaming... Maybe

#

And for just a few seconds, not like minutes/hours

#

So you're telling me this cable is good for my needs?

sand atlas
#

Yeah it should still be fine for a 1070 but each of those pins is only rated for 50W, so I'd consider that cable a 100W max per 6+2 connector (+75W slot power)

tame cape
#

I'm going to use only one pcie 6+2 and connect the EPS adapter to only 4pin eps

#

I think this one is a much better solution instead of 2*SATA to PCIe 6+2

sand atlas
#

Yeah sata runs a higher risk with an adapter because the contacts on the connector can be super thin and sketchy

tame cape
#

I keep seeing fire hazards

#

6pin PCIe to 2*6+2pcie

#

💀

sand atlas
#

Sounds like par for the course on aliexpress

tame cape
#

They're from Amazon
An 75 good reviews
Oh god...

#

Apparently the EPS to pcie are all 8pin EPS to 2*6+2 probably because it's just right, it's safe, 144w per 4pin

#

Then the only thing to worry about is how thick the cable is

#

But it looks like every adapter is the same, like if they steal each other design/ all buy from the same manufacturer

#

Ok, now I'll just have to wait for the cable to arrive... 7th September 🥶

@maiden rose this is the new design for the mini case, blue: MB, purple: FANs, yellow: cooler, green: PSU, orange: GPU, red: RAM.
Basically with this new case design (26x22x11cm) has more holes (hexagons) fo airflow, the GPU is facing down and sucking air from the bottom (like the PSU), the cooler sucks air from the opposite side of the GPU and all the hot air that accumulates should get out from the 2 (purple) 80mm fans near the cooler

#

On the 3rd photo you see the back with the motherboard I/O, PSU VDE and GPU I/O, there are some holes to add even more airflow (mostly for the GPU)

tame cape
#

For now I didn't put holes on top of the cooler and fans because it would have covered the image, of course I'll design them later

tame cape
#

@maiden rose you think the airflow will be good enough?

sand atlas
#

If you use Delta fans maybe

#

If it's for a lower power system you might get away with less airflow, after all that's how HP does it.

tame cape
#

Just tell me if I should make room for a third one near the GPU

tame cape
#

@sand atlas
Do you think these hexagons as holes for the fans are good enough?

mild roost
#

ye

sand atlas
#

What are the dimensions of them? Thickness of the material between?

mild roost
#

but thickness matters

sand atlas
#

I could extrapolate based on 80mm fans but lazy

#

You don't want the support plastic between too thick or it'll block airflow, too thin and it'll break easily. The classic conundrum.

tame cape
#

The hexagons are 2cm from top opposite ends. What do you mean with the thickness? Like in the photo?

#

The entire case has 3mm thick walls

#

@sand atlas @mild roost

mild roost
#

that sounds like enough for air to move

sand atlas
#

And what's the diameter of the hexagons?

#

I'll calculate your current ratio for hole size

tame cape
#

The diameter is 2cm

tame cape
sand atlas
tame cape
sand atlas
#

Ok that makes it 90% ratio which is great airflow, some of the best real cases don't get that high

tame cape
#

It's because the have may little holes with too much space between them

sand atlas
#

The best I've seen in a real case is like 96% and the panel flexed like crazy

tame cape
#

Inside the case I could use some 3d printed curved sheet to redirect hot air being blown by the CPU cooler to the 80mm fans

#

In my case the hexagons are spaced like 4mm

#

That way it won't break / bend

#

Most of the air from the GPU will be blown out from the I/O and front since there are holes for airflow

hazy forge
#

Does anyone have any experience with the Lian Li O11 Air mini? I am looking at that as a replacement for my air restrictive case and wondering if it is a decent air case...

past harbor
#

Good case, bottom intake helps gpu temps. Can fit normal atx psus. Don't pay over $120. Obviously aio fitment is somewhat limited vs others like 4000D or w/e so keep that in mind.

3070*

#

It is the pcie cable

upbeat dew
#

ehhh both are the same... its a 6+2 gpu connector

#

ideally you want a separate cable for each connector but a bifurcation in one should work fine on a 3070 anyway

#

3070 not a power hungry card

fierce pivot
# gritty violet .

The one that is a brick without the 2 pin separated goes into the psu although that's extremely short

And for a 3070 yes you will need 2 seperate cables , not pigtail

upbeat dew
#

i was expecting something between 250-280, but yes you are right, thjats why ideally you want 2 separate cables instead of one and a bifurcation

small locust
#

hey, I have as SSR-650GB seasonic psu, and I want to put a 5900x and 3070 in. Will it blow up?

#

I currently have the 5900x and a 1070 in my system, but I was told that my particular psu had a tendency to blow up if it was overdrawn

#

as for other stuff, I just have a 1tb nvme, 16gig 3600 ddr4, and like 6 fans.

sand atlas
#

It doesn't have any overcurrent protection so yeah if it's overdrawn too long it won't shut down safely and instead go boom

#

That is a tier E unit, you want a B tier to handle a 3070 especially with a high power CPU

small locust
#

yeah, I had no idea what I was doing at the time

#

bought the psu two years ago

#

So as for wattage tho, is a 650 still fine, or should I go 750

sand atlas
#

Probably 750W to be safe and leave some headroom for overclocks

#

But 650W would still work

small locust
#

tbh the difference between B tier and A tier in the EVGA stuff (I think that is the cheapest?) is like $10

sand atlas
small locust
#

oh, nice! thanks!

#

yeah, I am definitely the most lacking in knowledge when it comes to psus. most of the other components I am at least somewhat competent in.

#

The 5900x was definitely overkill and probably a poor purchasing decision, but I got a pretty good deal on it.

sand atlas
#

Nothing wrong with a 5900X imo. If it's in the budget, then it's a good buy.

small locust
#

well, it is a bit much for a 3070, as far as build balance goes, but I cant afford more than the 3070

#

I tried to justify it with rendering, but I dont do that frequently enough to really justify it

sand atlas
#

Nah it's a great match for the 3070, especially if you play in 1080p. It'll be a good CPU for years too.

small locust
#

I was hoping to step up to a 1440p monitor, since I currently just have a 1080p 75hz ultrawide

#

not bad, dont get me wrong, but I have always wanted a higher refresh rate and 1080p is a little rough even with anti-aliasing sometimes

sand atlas
#

Oof 1080p 75Hz

#

Anything is an upgrade over that tbh

small locust
#

My problem is I have become accustomed to playing with like 100+ degrees fov on an ultrawide, but that is just not in the budget at high refresh 1440p

sand atlas
#

$40 off normal price for prime day

small locust
#

that is massive lol, my 1080p is 27inch

#

thanks!

#

also pretty well above budget, but I have not started looking with vigor yet

sand atlas
#

Well it seems that 34" is about where 1440p ultrawides start

small locust
#

yeah makes sense

#

I have more or less resigned myself to just having normal res on my gaming monitor by now

sand atlas
#

$250 gets you a decent 27" 1440p 16:9 easily

small locust
#

yeah, that is more what I was thinking.

#

maybe go 32 inch and $300, idk

Hey all, I just ordered a ASUS 3090 Ti TUF Gaming OC, so I'm upgrading the PSU to a 1000w 80+ Platinum. The PSU is an EVGA, so the PCI-E connectors are labeled as VGA1, VGA2, etc. Since the 3090 Ti requires 3x8-pin connectors, I just want to make sure there are enough cables with the PSU, or will I have to utilize the one that comes with the the card and 2x PSU cables? Also does it matter what "VGA" port each of the GPU power cables go to? Here's the PSU...EVGA SuperNOVA P3 220-P3-1000-X1 1000 W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC
