Oof
bad with movement
I have about 1k hours in that game so I’ve got the movement down
Plus I played a lot of BHop and Surf in CS:GO a few years ago so I still had that going for me
Both TF2 games use the source engine so the movement is basically the same
heh I never did any of those
I like games with SPEED. The only exception is Halo, which I love, and the newer COD games, which I hate
That being Infinite Warfare and Black Ops 3
Anyone rocking a 5950x?
What CPUs are compatible with the Intel B460 motherboard
all of Intel 10 series CPUs
lower cas latency better
is it possible to connect 2 RTX 3090 to this motherboard? https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813119290
hey whats the lowest ram speed for ryzen 3600x and 3700x
2133
ok thx
you can do 1333
FOR DEATH
Enjoy!? i guess
lol
is 3200 mhz cl16 memory ok for a 5600x
was planning to go 3600 cl16 but prices went up
not what i asked but ok
Prices haven't gone up
Should be 3600
I answered
Giving up performance with 3200
Run whatever you'd like
Guys help please, would the x570 prime pro be fine if i paired it with the 5900x for a white build? If not can you please reccomend me a board that is also white or amlost white?
No BIOS flashback
You'd need a 3000 series to update the BIOS first
OTherwise it would be fine
Trustable seller?
One of their products has a 5 star rating with highly good reviews but their company overall has bad reviews
not to mention they ship their products from china
I wouldn't then
@wispy flint B550 Strix is kinda white and has Flashback https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-strix-b550-a-gaming/p/N82E16813119349
@random ledge everything is made in china .. they probably keep it there to cut down storage costs
so which of the 5th gen amd is worth it?
ive been told that the ryzen 9 5900x and ryzen 5 5600x are the only ones worth getting
ok, depending on availability im gonna try to get the ryzen 5600x but we'll see ig..
are b550 and x570 the other series that supports Pcie 4.0?
Best SODIMM brand?
B550 has PCIe 4.0 for gpu and m.2_1
x570 doesnt have pcie 4.0 for the m.2?
It probably does
I mean b550 is a lower end version of the x570 in a way
Im pretty sure most if not all x570 mobos have pcie4 m.2 slots
i thought x570 had 2 m.2 slots for PCIe 4.0 and b550 had only 1 slot for PCIe 4.0 for m.2
ok
It depends on what the mobo manufacturer includes
Ok
Is there anything else you need help with?
no just wondering what cpu and mobo combo i should do for my next pc
B550 is not compatible with zen+ and zen 1 architectures
So you can only use 3000 series and above
Excluding apu's
Whats your budget?
that does vary by board tho, although this is the case with the vast majority of boards
Yeah
not really a budget just getting what works but no killing the bank account if that make sense
X570 is the compatibility god in my opinion
R5 3600 with x570, 16gb 3200mhz or 3600mhz ram, and a 2060 would be an ideal setup
I bought a b550 board. im gonna try and get a ryzen 5 5600x adn then im gonna upgrade my b550 to a x570 so both of my corsiar mp600s can be running 4th gen PCIe
You dont need to
why on earth did you get 2 gen4 drives?
If the mobo you have supports 2 gen4 then go keep the b550
so no? just stay with a b550?
nice, you could always return the one you paid for
Yeah
gen 4 storage wont benefit you in anyway for gaming and most other things
and by the time speeds like that become relevant the drive would be dead lmao
none of them, why x570? unless he wants to use both gen 4 drives
I think he does
no no im gonna return the one i bought
those drives are pricy, you could improve the system with the money you get from returning it
Oh ok
idk how the hell i didnt think of that
in a significant way
So keep b550 return one of the drives
got it
the difference between b550 and x570 for gamers and general purpose computing is so irrelevant i never recommend x570 boards
5600x with what gpu btw
no sense paying 30 dollars more for the "better" chipset
3080
are the amd gpus any good? ive heard about them just havent watched benchmarks or heard the hype about them
But lets say they want to upgrade down the line and they have mid range parts, like zen plus and a 1660, an x570 would be good for upgrades
Amd gpus are kinda weird rn
not all x570 support those chips
ok then im just gonna stick with nvidia
only the top end ones do
the 6800xt at 649 is the slightly better card in most cases, but the 3080 has a ton of super nice features
Yep
like DLSS, which makes games play significantly better
games that would need it, anyways
Plus 6800xt drivers are still kinda buggy at least for me
as far as raw performance goes, the 6800xt is much better tho lol
lmao i just remembered about the 3060 ti... whats up with that thing?
so like, most other things that arent gaming
Yeah but actually using it is hot trash sometimes
same as always, just cheaper and less powerful
worth it over the 3070 imo
I mean its "budget" next gen
no 144hz 1080p
Knew it
3060ti will do that just fine
im getting a 3080 for 240hz at 1080p, because i want my games to look amazing, but without running at 90fps lmao
oh no i meant 3070 but ok
1080p but just very high refresh rate lmao
need my gpu to have a frame time under 4ms, so i need a 3080 to push out good looking frames really fast, unlike my 1080 which pushes out garbage at 4ms
any of yall know if amd's zen 4 cpus will be supported on x570 am4?
No. New socket and DDR5. End of 2021 or early 2022 for them. 5000 series is the end of the line for AM4
ouch, do you think ddr5 will be a big leap over ddr4? i was gonna buy a pc this coming summer and i wanted to do some research
It should be, yes
Honestly, a 5800x/5900x would last you for years even if you did build
okay sweet
would you say its still a good idea to build so close to that time frame, or should i just hold off until ddr5 comes out?
I wouldn't hold off
that's a good point
i was actually considering buying a 5900x, do you know whether a b550/x570 would be better for it?
i've gotten recommendations for both and x570 seems to be considerably pricier so i didnt wanna pull the trigger on one yet
Either would be fine TBH but keep in mind the board will need a BIOS update to support it which means you'll need to buy one with Bios Flashback
So you can update BIOS without CPU
ohhhh okay
im planning on building w/o upgrading ideally for as close to a decade as i can squeeze out of it, which chipset do you think has better longevity?
or does it not really matter
excellent, do you have any mobo recommendations?
Now is a good time to do a build as the am4 socket is the last and most mature + stable of the zen line we have. Next socket will likely have a first gen of cpu similar to first zen generation where it will be more worth to wait out the first gen and get the second or third.
First generation Ddr5 will be very expensive for consumers like ddr4 was. The first year ddr4 was out most people stayed on their ddr3 systems. Best to build something good now and wait out the first wave of new tech so you can get the more developed stuff once they stabilize the platform
ah that's great to hear, thanks!
its ok to put the 8 and 4 pin cpu cable even tho im not doing extreme overclocking?
Yes
I really can’t be the only one who thinks it’s ridiculous that only 3 X570 boards had passive cooling on the chipset, right?
The Aqua, Xtreme and Dark Hero iirc
just unplug the fan
hey im looking to buy a ryzen 3600x or 5600x is there any places with them in stock at msrp
For any of those Intel dudes out there, whats a good budget motherboard that would work with an i9 9900k?
do you already have a 9900k? i would suggest looking at the 10600k for cheaper
Overclocking isnt what its being used for, and this was purchased at 329$ for less than an i7
oof
welp, z390 boards aren't really made anymore
so you dont have many options as far as new parts go
eh, neweggs got quite a few for a good price in stock
@wild kiln https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813145092
Ive recently hd some troubel with gigabyte. is that a good one?
trouble with the company? what did they do to you?
Because we did an aorus for an amd ryzen 3600 and it has been nonstop crash central, and weve...tried everything for it.
oh
so thats the brands fault?
there are 7 other possible culprits in that system...
at least 7
and trust me, if the board is bad, its not the fault of the company, its the fault of that specific board in particular
gigabyte cring
software & all
some guy had 3 DOA MSI boards in a row when they RMAed their board
but MSI still decent
but dont worry this board slaps, well priced, well built power delivery
because that 9900k gonna need it
its got wifi too
yeah im just having doubts.
Its not like i dislike gigabyte or anything. I even have a 2070 super in my own build from them.
Works great.
Are there instances where higher memory frequency will outperform memory with better first world latency but lower clocks?
Yes
3600 CL16 is same performance as 3200 CL14
With AMD
3600 CL16 tends to be more affordable and readily available. The "sweet spot"
alright thank you, im assuming this happens else where with timings and frequencies, what would be a easy way to tell if two are equal in performance?
so not too easy, but that works, thanks!
If this is for AMD
Gemers Nexus did a great test, lemme find it
Memory speed on Ryzen has always been a hot subject, with AMD’s 1000 and 2000 series CPUs responding favorably to fast memory while at the same time having difficulty getting past 3200MHz in Gen1. The new Ryzen 3000 chips officially support memory speeds up to 3200MHz and can reliably run kits up to 3600MHz, with extreme overclocks up to 5100MHz...
have they written something for ryzen 5000 as well?
Not yet, it's too new. however, the 3000 stuff should apply
sounds good
5000 series has the same I/O Die as 3000 so it should all be the same
is 78 dollars good price for an i5-4690k?
buying
its hard to get the mobo for xeon here
u have board for 4th gen intel?
ezpz
basically i7
and most 4th gen intel boards will work no problem
But shipping itself costs me 120 dollars
im planning a 250-300 dollar range build
Does ASROCK B85M PRO4 Motherboard goes well with the xeon e3-1280 v3?
and its price is around 50 dollars
can the 1600af be a good cpu in 2021
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1280 v3
MOBO: ASRock B85M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
i have bought these
ezpz
the 1600af is the cheapest ryzen chip on newegg
paired with 2666mhz ram
as that is the max the 1600af supports
with a biostar b450mh board
Imo, it is better just to go with the 3500x or the 3600 if you are looking for a budget Ryzen right now, the 1600af is basically a slower 2600, which are both not as good as either the 3500x or the 3600, especially if they are priced in the same price range on Newegg
so theres these little circle outlines on the board. am i supposed to get the screw that cover those circles?
didnt the mobo come with screws
no
...
They come with the case
usually in some manual it lists the screws and what they are for
also do i screw in the middle of the mobo
they should line up with the standoffs in the case
that is NOT worth it
please don't
9600k is 150$ and 9700k is 200$ at microcenter
even then
r5 3600 is 200 everywhere
10400f is also 159$
the 10400f also has hyperthreading
Hoping for a little help from the group. Upgrading CPU in my desktop and want to confirm compatibility. Seems to me Intel Core i7-9700K Coffee Lake 8-Core 3.6 GHz (4.9 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) should work in a GIGABYTE GA-Z170-HD3P (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 MOBO. Can anyone confirm my research? Also, any other feedback welcome.
No. I7-7700K is the best processor you can p ut in there
Supports 7th / 6th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors Dual Channel DDR4, 4 DIMMs Fast USB 3.1 with USB Type-C™ -The World’s Next Universal Connector 2-Way ...
OK. Thanks a lot.
YW
Who’s the sucker who is going to buy from China? Ryzen 5 5600x just hit Newegg for close to double market value.
having trouble finding memory for my desktop HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-1xx . Per hp's web site i need Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets Supports up to PC4-23400 (DDR4-2933) 32 GB (unbuffered) with two 16 GB DIMMs
I'm going to get a 5950x to play minesweeper.
is "Intel Celeron G4930 Coffee Lake Dual-Cor 3.2 GHz LGA 1151" gonna work with "ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ LGA 1151 Intel"??
thank you
YW
You will need a 300 series motherboard to run that processor "Only Compatible with Intel 300 Series Motherboard"
i already have the asrcok mb just need a cpu for it for under $100
btw, that celeron is lga 1151(v2) so the mobo that supports it is the H310, B360 and Z390
@naive pendant that one fits the asrock h110 pro?
should i clean the pins?
Pins for what?
yes
@rustic plank
sort of mobo question sort of not but idk where to put it so this seems like the most relevant place, but I just bought an Asus Rog Strix x570 E off of Newegg, but the seller and shipper is "Deal Targets" and only after purchasing I saw that they have VERY mixed reviews, and I just wanted to see whether or not I should cancel my order or trust that Ill actually get the mobo?
I'm sure you'll get it
It's the aftermarket/return support that's probably sub par
Unless the reviews said they never received the product?
Some said they got it fine others said it was never in stock to begin with when they bought said product
so no some said they never got it
yeah thats why i was hoping to get some real feedback to see if i should bother going through the effort of getting a return
yeah, thats probably what ill end up doing, thanks
Sorry but if it were my money I would
thats fair, its not like its only $20 or something, its pretty substantial
Yes. Money is valuable
so i have a ryzen 5 1600 no overclocks mobo is a MSI B350 tomahawk what I am looking for is a CPU upgrade and mother board i have no more 500 to spend
my intel base system burnt out on me almost 5 years ago so it wasn't high or mid range in anyway it was passed down so i need to upgrade my CPU upgrade is far overdue
so i need help i have 500 USD to spend
i was looking at the i5-10600K and i7-10700K and the Ryzen 5 3600X do want a B550 Chipset for AMD
I do mostly gaming and streaming I play Star Citizen mostly and Overwatch comp mainly among other games but do not care for performance of any other games
If just cpu and mobo for 500 then o would do like a 5600x if you can find one and a mid to high price b550
@naive pendant
Or you could go for a 3800x maybe
Idk how much those cost
The 3800x is currently going for $416 on Newegg, with the (currently out of stock) Newegg price being in the 380s
It probably isn't going to be in stock for quite a while too, the 5000 series Ryzens are going to be out of stock for ages
yeah
but if i went with 3800x that means i need MOBO upgrade
yeah that is why need a MOBO upgrade
and any option i go with it over budget so yeah
Do you live near a Microcenter?
no not if i want to drive for 6 hours plus north or south
i'd have to drive Vancouver British Columbia or California
K
The problem is Ryzen cpus are all seeing a price jump, some more so than others
well for most of my PC gaming years AMD has been my only chip maker I've used
so going for Intel would be leap of faith so yeah but always willing to take the leap of faith
Yeah, I'm working on a 10400F setup right now
I've used both, though mostly Intel in laptops
well what do you expect humans are interesting
10400, 16 GB ram, nice mobo
my new pride and joy is in #build-pics
Plus Z490 so upgrade CPU down the road
all intel
Yeah, you are probably going to want an Intel build if you aren't willing to wait for the Ryzen market to stabilize, you kinda picked a bad time for an upgrade tbh
I mean, we can do 3600 for hte same money but right now the 10400 is slightly faster so
isnt rocket lake coming out in march
this is my rig right now
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QpGpVc
Is it? Lemme check
other then there is also a 1050 TI to power another monitor
well yes it takes care of the encoding also for my streaming and why not try to offload some work loads to it if needed
keep in mind the 1660 was an upgrade in 2019 of june before i was using 1050 TI from 2018 of February
this system original state is not what it is now
I've done ram upgrades and GPU upgrades had money for left over for CPU cooler in February of 2020 after ram upgrades so yeah
and thought why not go big for the CPU cooler so NH-D 15 it is over kill but never need to upgrade aging
I went from a 980 to a 1080 a few years ago, derped out cause I was still using an FX-8350 like a chum
is 3200 CL 16 better for ryzen 5000 or is 3600 CL18 better
3600 CL 16
16 GB kit $75
Or the CL 18 and try to get C16 with it
For what you'd pay for the C18 kit, can probably get C16 anyway
@hollow thorn @gritty meadow You guys know how to recover drives after a Motherboard Upgrade?? I went from a Gigabyte B450 AORUS M to a ASUS TUF Gaming X570 Plus (WiFi0 and the drives I need to recover have critical Information on them for some programs as well as Client Data
it should just be plug and play, what is the issue you are experiencing? and did any of the previous drives have an operating system installed on them?
None of them had a OS on them at all. They are storage drives
then you should be able to install them like any other drive, as long as they dont share the same Drive letter
They dont but Windows is showing that I have to initialize the drive and If I do that It erases everything on it
AOMIE Disk Part Wizard is also showing them as Unallocated space
@mild jackal ^^^^ You got any ideas on what I can do
lmao what

what did you do
did you have them soft raided or something
@stray raptor
No
how was it originally set up
AHCI
But 1 drive was on a sata controller card. Yeah single drives with partitions
On previous MoBo it had 6 sata ports but 2 got negated by the presence of a nvme drive. This mobo doesn't have that
smh
well you can try to run recovery software if they arent showing up in windows
and next time please buy a nas if youre using that many drives
Windows says they need tk be initialized and AOMIE says unallocated
Can't afford a NAS
sucks lol
build one then
just dont run how ur running rn
if any of the data is actually important
I don't even know how to do anything with a NAS
learn
if its important you should know how to protect it
whatever the data is
Download MiniTool Power Data Recovery software free to retrieve lost data from hard drives and removable devices on Windows 10/8/7.
try running this
if it doesnt show any files then rip lmao
I have another software but it was trial version and it was finding files on the drives
But a system update halted that option
unlucky
Then it was trying to store animate of the files to my documents folder and I only have about 1gb available on my nvme drive at this time
find a drive you can recover to
I don't have any at this time. The only one I could have isn't available cause it isn't reading it in windows
otherwise congrats on losing everything, hope this taught you a valuable lesson about backing up/using the proper tools for the job :))
That's kind of harsh honestly. I have never in my 36 years had this kind of problem when upgrading components
im not trying to be harsh lol
its genuinely one of those things where something just broke and if you dont have the means to fix it then it cant rly be fixed
The data is there. If I connected the drives to my one laptop with a SATA to USB 3.0 cable I would be able tk read them on the laptop
There are also server files I need to recover and what not

well good luck with that i guess
i do hope this helped show why something like a nas is important
I honestly dont even know what a NAS is

Centralize data storage and backup, streamline file collaboration, optimize video management, and secure network deployment to facilitate data management.
Do older xeon cpus and newer cpus have difference in video quality if I use a xeon build as secondary computer for streaming in OBS?
how old
e5-4250v3
Can an athlon 3000g setup run league decently? Would build a pc Q3 this year
Me too I'm also thinking of building one this year
the athlon 3000g is fine
but it's out dated
I just recently entered the world of pc tech 3-4 days ago
Since i would need one as I'm trying to enter ICT strand next year
Oh i'm glad you did lol
what's ict
oh yeah Information and communications
hope at Q3 2021 quarantine will be lifted here and pc shops will make promo
micro center has Ryzen 5 5600x stock NJ, OH, CA
dammit
would that bottleneck my rtx2070 super
No. Protip: Don't worry too much about “bottlenecks”, especially with the current Ryzen 3000 CPUs. A faster CPU will result in higher peak FPS, especially at 1080p but that doesn't mean that a slower CPU is “bottlenecking” your graphics card.
thats for a 3600 tho
what about the 5600x
sent dm
Do I need to enable xmp if I already manually set my ram speed to its intended speed in the bios?
No. Double check timings though, not just speed
this seems to be the cheapest non sh!t ssd
or this
i will not an 860 evo
thats too expensive
or this
lmao no
never heard of that
decent
as there is dram on that ssd
sp is dram
and wd
i put sp
ah
anyone know when the r5 5600 non x model will come out?
Pls don't spam
Reason: Bad word usage
Hey Ik this might not be the right channel but my pc isn’t turning on, everything’s connected and worked just fine, I went to restart the pc and now it won’t load windows, I’ve tried factory resetting but it got stuck at 1%
Do you smell anything different inside the case or nearby?
Second, how old is the pc.
Is anything fried and how old is the pc?
3600 CL16. Hitting 2000 mhz FCLK is a crap shoot
If it were a 5900 I'd say 4000
Well, it's a bit more complicated than that
3600 cl 16 is the sweet spot
Ram speed is tied to F Clock, the chiplet interface speed
It gets complicated quickly lol
BUt anyway, 5000 series was supposed to hit 2000 mhz FCLK but hasn't yet
BIOS updates needed and other things
Bottom line: 3600 C16 is great
Yes
micron e die
great stuff
Yes
Ballistix has better chips
19 and 39
Ye
Crucial is owned by Micron so
They get the good chips 😉
Yep
so im a complete rookie to this stuff, but
should i make my first build intel or amd?
im lookin at the i5-9600k and 3600.
i like intel
especially if the other option is zen2
you WILL get better FPS
but not as good for workstations
hah, i passed that autodesk phase years ago, no workstation here
the problem with intel is that they are annoying about overclocking and the boards are more expensive
and stock coolers suck
and mounting is harder
but at least it has those clocks lol, but 9th gen uses a dead platform
i would go 10th gen
What has the 5950x processors been hitting for max IF speeds ? I heard some 5xxx CPUs hit 2000 but not all, lower processors slightly worse ratio of success. I heard the 5900x/5950x have a better chance being better yield provided all else in the system is good for it.
for upgrades
10300/10400 with Z490 for upgrade path
Bob, BIOS updates needed for 2000 IF
It's unreliable right now. They need to update the AGESA code
how much would a good 10th gen cpu be, but not on the line of killing my bank account?
depends on the account lol
but a 10600k should be good
kf is less if u dont need the integrated GPU
im getting a gpu, so the integrated graphics would be useless
Get an F model then, no GPU
well, some editors use it and it is good for waiting but yea
like if ur still waiting for new stock
gpu wise
Integrated GPU is nice if your graphics board or drivers go belly up. Otherwise, aside of the encoder on the iGPU if you use it, it would be a waste if you rely on a dGPU for graphics.
i put it in my builds where the client wants a 30 series
bc I cant promise when and I dont want to give out placeholders
im liking these 10th gens im seeing, thanks guys, sorry for the easy question hah
go in peace 👍 😆 .
is the AMD Ryzen 3 3200G worth it for someone who games not a lot
ye, but depends on game
don't except to play 2021 games on it though
Walmart had a pretty huge restock today on 5600x. I got a order in and sold my 3700x for 270$ on Hardwareswap.... crazy these prices
3200G isn't bad, I'd really rather see someone hunt down a 4350G (ali express might have ONE but price won't be reasonable usually) or get a 3400G, the 3400G gives you a little better graphics, and gives you SMT (which means your Windows background processes won't hitch up). The 3200G was 'just good enough' when it came out, and really wouldn't be ideal now. It's competitor was mid-range i5 systems at the time when it was released and even then the i5 walked it quite a number of times except iGPU performance. @naive pendant
If you really don't care, only play simple or esports games, or don't have the budget, a 3200G especially used is just fine. A 2400G or 2200G will also do in a pinch but keep in mind those are older generation and the graphics won't be as good. Even though 3200G/3400G have 3xxx in the name, it lines up with the Ryzen 2600/2700x and so-forth which are older, and is a generation behind with graphics added. The 2200G/2400G lines up also with the Ryzen 1200/1400/1500/1600/1700x and so forth series of chips which is 1st generation Ryzen and while not great, is better than a 10 year old computer by quite a bit (if that's what you have).
If you just want to breath a little life into an older machine, consider making sure you have an SSD for the OS and your favorite games or software, and make sure to throw on a cheap 50~80$ GPU that you can easily find on the used market. If it doesn't require a power plug to plug into the video card, then that will increase the chances of the used GPU fitting in your system. Budget OEM name-brand systems bought from any one of several of the major computer vendors (Dell, HP-Compaq, etc) may not have a plug for your GPU upgrade, especially on older systems 5 years old and older. So if you do buy a GPU upgrade for an older system, pull open the side (or top panel on a non-tower case) and see what you have before ordering something.
There's many off-brands and boutique brands that customize PC's for and cater to the gaming community, from players of Fort Nite, to CSGO or Call of Doodey, Cattlefield, or even down to the paltry requirements of 3D Solitaire Multiplayer Deathmatch 2000. So you're sure to find something that fits you if you don't wish to build.

Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.com
oh lmao
Back when we first started interwebs in the mid 90's, this is how we rolled. @ruby laurel Gotta love the non-aids-link name you've given that, why places insist on having a 65536 long URL in the browser is beyond me.
lmao i feel you
and yeah i used to type like that on irc
Yeap, EFNET then Undernet
I will never forget Khaled Martam-Bay's name coming up every day
mIRC with some scripts, I think I still have it somewhere when I was going through my '2x CD-R' collection I made in 1997 when I got a 2x CD-R for some 200$!
btw, i hope we see the 5200 and 5400g
with possible 2000mhz GPU
I worked for a whole month to make money for that and the Sound Blaster Awe64 Gold I bought. yes I'd like some nice APU's from AMD also, hopefully we get them on AM4 ... if not the silver lining in AM5 is higher possible memory speeds, not that we'll get those from the get-go out of DDR5.
So why's there all these 4xxx G series available on Ali Express and yet 3000 series Ryzen is selling for above-market price?
high demand maybe?
I mean, I have a 3700x sitting in it's retail packaging here since I upgraded to a 3950x last summer, if I had known it was going to hold it's value I'd have bought more in 2019!
because AMD didnt release them to the US market for some reason
Used it for a year never overclocked it (never needed to honestly), great chip. I wish AMD would release the G-series on retail or at-least single unit OEM processors here! It might help them out a bit on stocks.
Old Doom-modding friend of mine from the 90's bought a 9700k around when I got the 3700x and shamed me for getting the 'slower AMD' stuff 'that's so buggy' and then at which point all the intel security flaws were hitting news daily. I told him due to newer platform, more advanced tech, and because I could air cool it. I told him for what he paid for his water loop, his processor BETTER be faster than mine (spoiler alert: for my work flow it was not, and games saw no difference). He hasn't brought up processors since I got the 3950x though, you could have heard an Ant fart the silence was chilling. If I had known how much better the AM4 platform really truly was outside of ever-present game benchmark spam that is processor reviews, I would have upgraded from my Haswell system on the 2nd gen Ryzen 2xxx 12nm chips debut.
Friend of mine is still trying to find a 9900k for a decent price, too, and cannot... he should have bought AMD!
If anything, I'd have to say the gobs of cache memory and scheduler enhancements / brand predictions / SMT being better than HT is really a big difference when working on the PC, much more-so than gaming, VS other intel systems I've used including custom gaming machines with fast RAM etc.
That and not having to juggle PCI-E lanes as much. I can use pretty much every slot on my X570 TUF gaming board and it doesn't have to constantly shut other things down like my Z97 Maximus Hero had to - which I hated with a passion.
intel servers alone can be worth it for the intel ICH performance if using it for data
I mean yeah you can just buy a LSI 9211/9311 depending on your needs (whatever it was, megaraid cards), those have intel chipset on it, pretty good stuff and doesn't take as long to boot as the one I have here that I used to use in the intel system, but intel drive performance in even the desktop systems for RAID was nothing less than A+ until you got into multi-user scenarios where you needed extra cache memory to help things out. The older 92xx series LSI cards weren't adept with SSD's though.
yeah i have my specs here
back in 9th gen, intel made a massive oof whiout the HT so it was kinda bad for like future proof as those extra threads could help out
@naive pendant
yes, I fully agree, it was not a time when they should have been greedy, but they've messed up again on 10th gen with no memory overclocking on mid-level consumer chipsets unless you went Z-series.
oh okay, well, sorry, must be lots of people in... looks and sees ever-lasting list yeah okay I see how that's going down.
btw yeah
and now seems like B560 would allow for OC
but even then...the I9 still gonna be like 8c/16t
There, corrected, thank you VEM 2100 words words words :x I am still getting used to discord, it's like mIRC, but it's much, much grander scale.
you can use like @veminir tho
my actual username
I try to keep an uncommon user name if possible, but even in one of the dev chats I am in where there's maybe 50 people, there are two bob's and I'm on of them. Here I am probably a needle in a hay stack... or hay planet from the looks of it.

Ah well, when I do manage to find a 4350G processor for 100~120$ USD shipped, I am finally buying one, I will build a machine for my 70 year old retired mother who's still using a REGOR-core Athlon II x2 AM2+ platform with 4gb DDR2 (okay, it does have an SSD and Windows 10 and boots in about 4~5 seconds), it's a wee bit OLD. As in, 12 years old at-least. I don't know how it is still going, all original hardware except the SSD and half the RAM which was added back in 2013.
my mom has a ryzen 7 2700x, 16gb 3200mhz ram, 512gb nvme, and 4tb hdd with a gtx1080 lol
she played some games on some phenom and i was like no

That PC has, get this: A Rosewill 500 watt power supply. That was overkill for a PSU a 250 would have been plenty, but might as well get a half-decent one. I don't know who Rosewill bought the PSU unit from to brand with their name, but whoever they got it from, it's 12 years old and still going.
Yeah, Phenom has seen it's day, Phenom II was great when it came out, but since Ryzen there's no reason to hold out anymore.
If I knew, I would have bought more. It doesn't really do 3d games though, geforce 8100 video, ASRock motherboard - which doesn't even have all solid caps - it's got the big electrolytic caps on it. I am shocked it lasted that long. Bought it in 12/2008 or so from Newegg and the motherboard was 60~70$ when it was NEW. I think it MIGHT be a 760G chipset? Not sure. I entirely forget what board it is.
The board I wish I didn't sell was an X48 Foxconn Digitalife! ELA motherboard. It was an ASUS board in all but name. 3-way crossfire, LGA 775 socket, trouble-code LCD on it the numeric kind, 6 sata ports and it might have even had one or two IDE ports. I got it a little while later in the year from the ASrock board. Was an amazing board except - due to 'buggy bios' or rather what I found out was 'mis-labeled BIOS', no review could get a decent overclock on it.
I promptly threw my e5200 wolfdale pentium dual core on there and a zalman orb-shaped 7000 series cooler, and happily ran it to max of 4.2ghz bench-stable, and 4.0ghz daily 24/7 and sold it. Great board, very solid, but the BIOS was just bare-minimum work done to it. Asus didn't need all the boards that at-the-time Foxconn produced, so Foxconn marketed the boards under their name but had to make their own BIOS. Likely made the BIOS right from specification and didn't fiddle with it or QC it at all.
With 8gb of RAM on it in dual channel, that board and processor STEAM ROLLED games at the time. It kept pace for pace with my Xeon W54?? 4ghz processor I had unless games used more than two cores or needed the memory bandwidth of triple channel LGA 1366.
The XEON was Westmere, a few iterations newer than Wolfdale 45nm and the XEON had an integrated memory controller on the CPU (and SSE 4.2) unlike Core 2 series, but unless you did memory-sensitive tasks, the Wolfdale chip could keep up clock for clock for the most part - the difference was negligible.
72$ motherboard. 48$ CPU. Foxconn Digitalife! ELA you will be sorely missed. (this was VS my 300$ Asus P6T Deluxe V2 and 300~400$ XEON, and it gamed nearly as fast)...
You cannot get that big of a disparity now with tech, being able to overclock like mad on air cooling and be able to game like something worth 5x the cost!
should i get the 5800x cpu or a 5900x when they come back in stock? im unsure because many are saying there’s a temperature issue that’s going on and idk what i should be getting
5900x is much better value
thanks
if i buy a 5600x and i want to overclock it , will a MSI MPG B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI motherboard support it?
thanks
also remove the notch
if I pair a threadripper pro with a 3090 and game with it, will it make a big difference?
vs
gaming consists of like 40% of my computers use
other 60% being
cad softwares, video and photo editing
wait which threadripper exactly
threadripper pro 3945
its a workstation
i just upgraded this morning from a rtx quadro 5000 to a suprim 3090
well if the other threadripper results I see are anything to go on, it'll be roughly equivalent to a 9900k in gaming
i can say it definitely works better than the quadro 5000 in terms of performance in rendering
nah
it was just a spur of the moment upgrade, posted my card for sale on fb marketplace and it got sold within 2 hours and bought a 3090 off the shelves after meeting with the buyer
is a cpu something you should be buying used?
for a cpu you should probably get new
alright i figured
used can be worn down or have bent pins
yeah fair enough
risky unless ur friends with the seller
yep
dope
that might be on-sale actually iirc
is the cooler that comes with the 3600 pretty bad
pretty much all stock coolers arent that good
if u wanna upgrade i recommend the gammaxx 400 for $20
scythe mugen 5 rev b for $50
and noctua nh-d15 for $90
@quaint geyser
alright thank you!
no problem
Thank you very helpful !!!
does gskill ripjaws have fake ram
that i can fill up 2 dimslots with
or dummy moduels
Question for anyone who can help: First-time system builder. Have gathered all components and waiting for 5900x. While all my components especially rtx 3080 in return period i want to finish the build and test it. Which is the cheapest AMD CPU which I can use. I have MSI MAG x570 tomahawk MB. My plan is to buy cheap CPU and then replace with 5900x when available. I think this will cost me around same cost as buying from scalpers but don't want to support them. Any help appreciated.
thanks. let me check this out.
It's about the cheapest you can get on the compatibility list
Hi, Happy New Year i am looking for 4 -32gb memory ram. These are the specs i need I
need. i7/ i9
Support DDR4-2933 Memory
What happened. Two months ago, not even, the memory and storage market was amazing. Things were plentiful and priced great. Now i need some faster ram and...... its gone. And what i find is a bit pricey. Ugh will this ever end???
Idk you in uk? Might be because in lockdown people have nothing to do so they are just upgrading there pc’s
is the 5900x overkill for 3070?
Anyone know if the b550 tomahawk can be flashed without a zen 2 cpu?
I purchased it on BF
Ok then. Imma hope so. I’m selling my Zen 2
Can you give more information? (budget, use case, country of purchase) and i believe you are supposed to use #building-and-recc-chat (not to sure tbh) @ me with a response
A 5900x is a great processor, but games often won't use more than 4~8 cores depending on the game. Some games however will run much better with 8 cores over a quad core, but again it depends on the game and how new it is. A game like BeamNG Drive will be able to handle much more traffic than say a 4 or 8 core processor when you have a 12-core processor. The 5900x also has much better single-core boost speeds than previous generation Ryzen chips, so it shouldn't limit your video card's FPS output. If you run 4k resolution, the processor and what generation it is makes much less difference as most of the processing is done on the GPU. If you run 1080p, the opposite is true - the CPU matters more. Whether you buy a 5900x, 5600x, or an intel 10th gen K-series or even non-k-series processor, as long as it has enough cores to run what you want to run, there isn't much of a wrong choice right now. With current availability, get what is available. For 4k gaming, upgrading from Ryzen 3xxx or intel 8 or 9 series processors to a Ryzen 5000 series or intel 10000 or 11000 series won't gain very much and you should in-stead concentrate on having the best GPU you can afford.
@barren lagoon there are many 64gb and 128gb kits made of 32gb dual-rank sticks out there now. Keep in mind with 32gb sticks it's harder to find kits with fast speeds VS the more common 16gb sticks or very common 8gb sticks. Generally, the more GB in size per stick of memory, the less common faster memory will be.
Several brands have what you look for. Find the lowest CAS latency and highest MHZ speed your processor and motherboard support (2933mhz), to get the best speed. For an intel CPU, quick memory matters less than on a Ryzen CPU due to how the CPU cores and cache memory speeds are tied in to one another and the differences in such methods between the two major CPU brands. Each CPU has it's strong points, but running an intel chip with 2933mhz RAM will certainly not foul your gaming FPS any.
For games, you will be VERY hard pressed to use more than 32gb, in-fact, many games won't benefit from more than 16gb of system RAM except new stuff that's come out in the last 12 months. Unless you do video editing, lots of productivity stuff, or just never ever want to have to close your web browser out ever again, you don't really need more than 32gb of RAM (2x 16gb dual-rank 2933mhz sticks would be fine). However, if you want more for whatever reason, the memory manufacturers and Newegg certainly won't get in your way. Just expect to pay more for the larger sticks as they are less common.
@barren lagoon Keep in mind also, to make sure the type of memory you need, for example, you don't want to buy ECC memory for a desktop if your desktop does not support it. If you get the wrong type of memory, the system may not boot until it is removed. Consult your system board documentation for the exact specs of the memory required and search that up.
How good is a used i7 7700... and could I pair it with a 3070 or 3060ti and not have it bottle necked?
@keen coral An i7 7700 non-k, used in conjunction with a 4k screen resolution, won't be that bad of a bottleneck unless your game needs / can use more than 4 cores. I wouldn't pay much money for a used quad-core i7 though now, as that's like current gen i3's are now and you can get an i3 on a new platform for pretty cheap, especially a locked i3, and upgrade to a larger CPU later on. A somewhat lack-luster intel 10400 even non-k, is going to likely be better than a 7700, and is a new processor with the latest security exploits fixed. However, if you can't procure a new i3 + board + ram if you need ram, for the cost of the 7700, plus whatever it needs - then it might be a viable option if it's your ONLY option. However, I wouldn't even really desire to pay half for the 7700 what an i3 + board + ram (if needed) cost. It's really seen it's day and should only be considered for a kid's computer or casual / esports gaming.
New processors will benefit from not only security patches built in without performance penalty, but will have newer instruction sets, use less power / product less heat, and have longer drivers support.
Processor speed matters less at high resolution / high settings in games, and more for 1080p / high-refresh-rate gaming as the GPU shares less of the load at low resolutions. If CSGO at 65536 frames per second is your goal, you won't want anything to do with an older CPU.
I’ve got a i7 7700
Upgrade it down the road then
It's not a good pairing with the 3000 series because the 7700K has slow ram speeds and less IPC than newer stuff
Hm yea I’m really into aviation and with the new msfs 2020 my rx580 isn’t exactly cutting it so I’m just trying to upgrade my system but keep the parts I don’t need to
Oooh
Yeah, the 7700K will have a hard time with MSFS2020 also
Honestly, for that game I'd shoot for a new processor and ram first
It'll use 16+ GB of ram
and all the CPU/GPu you can throw at it
I’ve got 16gb at 3200 mhz
Well, if it's already paid for, then I wouldn't worry too much when you're doing 4k gaming. If you just plan on doing 1080p gaming on your current system, I would wait around until better parts availability comes around in the coming months / year and wait for a good deal to come up. 1080p high refresh rate gaming will obviously see the biggest boost here. If you get CPU bottleneck, turn up video settings (caution: some video settings CAN cause more work for both CPU and GPU), conversely if your game is lagging but your cpu isn't going 100% yet, turn down the video settings or resolution a notch.
The older processor will be most at a disadvantage when you run older DirectX 11 (and older) titles with single-threaded draw calls (read: pretty much anything that isn't Vulkan renderer or DirectX 12), as those will HAM a single core and have other less-intensive work for the other cores. Keeping Vsync on may help balance the load (or Gsync / adaptive sync in video card driver configuration) as it will pace things.
Yeah but the 7700K is going to scream at you for that game lol
RX580 is still a decent GPU
Either way you go you're going to be mismatched a bit
^^^MS flight Sim 2020 is Direct X 11. Like Fallout 4 downtown (and my BeamNG maps go figure!) these will HAM a single core with draw calls and hold up the entire render engine. Wait for the DX12 patch for MS Flight Sim as it's in the works.
Turning off reflections, and turning down shadows and draw distance will be helpful in improving performance by lowering draw call totals per frame. Toy with the settings a bit and see what works best for you.
I do game-dev stuff for current game engines as a hobby mostly, and some contract stuff now and then I cannot elaborate on - but yeah MS Flight Sim being released on DX11 was a stupid move - especially with MS as the publisher (they did NOT develop it).
Okay so I was thinking abt maybe even switching cpu to ryzen. Maybe going for the new ryzen 5 5800x or ryzen 7 3700x
You two are very knowledgeable and helpful thanks
@keen coral the Ryzen 5000 series would be a great processor for you BUT it does not fix rubbish rendering engine issues, which will still be present albeit less so. You're going to be best served waiting a month or two for the patch.
Wait for the DX12 patch for that game, and then make darn well sure to use DX12, as it will solve most of the CPU bottlenecking on both older and/or slower processors and laptop processors (Which usually don't go over 3ghz on many models except the best ones!).
Okay so I should keep my CPU and change the gpu?
-_-
Sorry if I’m misunderstanding
Draw calls are issued by the CPU, telling the GPU to render X amount of connected textured faces on an object, and any identical objects to that one present in the scene at the SAME level of detail (complexity lessens as it gets further away). This is repeated for any specular (shiny) reflective (mirror finish) and normal-mapping (the 3d look of the texture on the object, like bricks use). This is done thousands of times PER FRAME, dozens of times per second. The more complex (or poorly made!) models in the game, and the more different varieties of them there are, the longer it takes the GPU to receive all the work it's supposed to do. The GPU can handle filling in thousands of faces on objects just in the time it takes a CPU to push ONE render (draw) call. So yes, a FAST CPU is good for DirectX 11, but if all cores are loaded, you only get the speed that's specified for 'all-core boost' speed. So pick your CPU wisely, or wait until DX12 patch comes out, as then ALL cores can be used to hand out render calls to the GPU. Vulkan renderer is also just as good as DX12 but also can be used for other OS's besides Windows. Avoid DX11 or older titles if you have an aging CPU and don't want to upgrade yet.
However, if you can't be bothered with a slow game, get a processor with a good boost speed like the Ryzen 5600x, a 10600k slightly overclocked, or similar. Just make sure if you get an intel chip, you get a half-decent aftermarket cooler with it - as many don't come with a cooler and you never, ever, ever want to use the stock one if the chip you buy comes with it, if at all possible.
IF you buy a Ryzen processor, read some product reviews on tech websites or on youtube, and see what kind of RAM they use and get something like they use for the Ryzen - Ryzen processors LOVE fast RAM and can realize an additional 15% performance boost readily per-core if you buy GOOD FAST memory.
Keep in mind also that I've heard MS Flight Sim 2020 can use up to 10 or 11gb of VRAM, but I forget which resolution that was at. Look at reviews of the game for more info as they will surely say so.
... yea I figured that last bit out my CPU is usually at 80-90 degrees under load and my cooler just broke
It was the stock one my pc came with (I got a prebuilt for Christmas on year)
Well a CPU will downclock (as will a GPU) if it gets too warm / hot. Just keeping it cool can easily net 10% performance boost - or sometimes more.
A Hyper 212 evo was the de-facto standard for cheap cooling for a long time, but a Noctua is a much better made product that is quieter and better performing, and often you can re-use a cooler on your next build (a good company like Noctua will send you an updated mounting bracket for a new motherboard for free if you save your proof of purchase / receipt).
An AIO may not perform as well as a Noctua, but that's dependent on many things including case airflow, ambient temperature, what software you run, if you have an overclock, etc. Make sure to buy an AIO that has a collateral damage policy so that if it leaks they cover your damaged components. You do not need an AIO for a 7700k, but I won't stop you for a second if that is what you wish to put in your PC and you're the one paying for it. Just take a look at some decent Noctua or your-favorite-brand-here air coolers first before taking the leap.
Just whatever you do, make sure you have space to mount whatever it is you buy - AIO's have an inherent advantage here. Must be careful especially with prebuilts.
Example: I have a Noctua NH D-15-S (single fan) cooler on my stock Ryzen 3950x. The whole case is air cooled, filtered, with sound dampening, and it's a full-tower case. I rarely hear it unless I really crank up the works over here and even then it's not loud in the slightest when I do get to hear it. It is MUCH quieter than the stock fan from my 3700x was. The CPU rarely ever gets to 80c and when it does it's only for but an instant and only when it's really hot (and if I haven't cleaned the filters in a month or three! Derp!). So what I'm saying is, you may not need an AIO to do the job, a 30~40$ cooler may just do 100% fine and then some, however I entirely won't stop you from buying one, nor talk you out of it, if that's truly what you want.
Looking up reviews of the 7700k from when it was new, or cooler reviews from the last 3 years may prove helpful in settling on a decision if you have not made up your mind already. Just make sure you have the room around the CPU socket for whatever you buy, and if it's an air cooler that you will have room to clear the memory sticks / still be able to close the side panel (that it's not too tall), and if an AIO make sure you have room to mount the radiator/fan combo.
Thank you so much I don’t know how I can say it enough for all of the helpful information. I’m truly thankful
Only one caution with Noctua coolers: When you buy one and use it, you may never ever want to settle for anything less. They do cost a bit more but the quiet operation and long-lasting fans and lack of rattles usually wins everyone over in the end (their customer service / support is top-notch too).
You're quite welcome @keen coral . Do not disregard @elfin warren 's input also as he does know about hardware also. Sometimes more opinions = better.
I will be away for a bit, so I am sure others can help if you have more questions, but good luck either way and enjoy PCMR!
Yes all of you are very knowledgeable and seem to know what y’all are talking about. Thank y’all so much in aiding me in my gaming needs lol. It means a lot
And sorry for not typing huge paragraphs I know it seems kind of rude not to type as much and in as much effort as you did but I’m just not good at typing that much
Ah it's okay, maybe it's better for everyone else in here that there's only one person typing a book. I can type fast so no biggy. --Cheers and again, good luck @keen coral
I've worn through a handful of keyboard's keys in my 25+ years of typing and PC hardware use.
Thank you @long acorn extremely nice and helpful
ryzen 6 10200z
Maybe a little bit of a stupid question but what do you do if you've got more ARGB fans or strips or whatever than ARGB headers on your MOBO and the case doesn't come with a built-in ARGB hub/controller?
Buy one
Try to match your fans
So if they are Corsair get the Corsair rgb controller and then get the fan hub
Yeah I started figuring out that would be the answer while I was typing my question lmao
Does ASUS have one?
Not sure but I’m pretty sure Corsair hubs will work for most fans
Don’t take my word on it tho
Np
Get this
Make sure you plug it into the right port on the motherboard though
Otherwise you’ll kill the motherboard lol
Yeah looks similar to what I have in my current case. This is more of a future plan. Thank you! That's super helpful!
No problem!
I think the Corsair one will be slightly more reliable but it’s also 40 dollars more so...
Yeah, I already made that mistake with my current MOBO that doesn't have any ARGB headers so I'm stuck with the button to change colors and stuff instead of using a software lmao. Won't make that mistake again haha
Lol
No you can kill your motherboard
If you plug the strip in the wrong plug
5V goes to 5V and 12V goes to 12V
Yeah, I guess it depends on what fans I'll eventually get, still looking into stuff and mainly fantasizing on a future upgrade in the next few months hopefully
If you plug a 12V into a 5 then POW
Yeah but the 12V plug has 4 pins so good luck trying to even accidentally plugging that in
Waiting to retire my 970 lmao but those damn 30 series cards aren't in stock
Damn lmao but I'd imagine it would kill your RGB LEDs and not the MOBO
Well for some people it frys the motherboard
I read it somewhere
Maybe I’m thinking wrong
Huh, that's pretty sad
All I know is that it does something bad lmao
Yeah for sure
Anyone have a mobo recommendation for the Ryzen 9 5900X?
Mmmm, something X570
Yup, that’s what I was looking at
Reason: Bad word usage
@clever epoch i would say ROG crosshair viii hero or aorus ultra
i would like to know if anyone gets back to you
hello
the 3600x is available for about half the price of the 5600x where i live which one do i get?
depends on what you want to do
if the ryzen 7 3700x is 150... great deal
5600x has better gaming perf by quite a bit and will support SAM, but also is more expensive/ less availability
so up to you
3600x if you need to build now
any idea why it's been months with almost no Ryzen 7 or 9 cpu distribution? I get they released with low stuck, but they have had months to produce more.
usually in mass production you make 1000s or more of things a day - really am curious if I can get a processor at all this year
They've been dropping regularly on Amazon and Newegg
They dropped CPUs on AMD website. That site was silent for a long time and then suddenly stock showed up.
I guess that is what I am getting at, having stock available for 3 minutes, isn't useful for anyone. I don't consider that having stock.
especially since there is no way to preorder and no way to be notified and even if you can be getting a notification at 4am and run to your pc to buy it and get there and it's sold out already...
I was hoping people might have insight on when stock will really be available. I bought a 3600 as a placeholder because I needed a new PC but the intention was for a 5900 and been trying for months now
on brazil gpus and cpus are always on stock because taxes make retail prices absolutely abusive 😎😎😎
casual
like
see the prices on https://kabum.com.br for 30 series gpus and Zen3 and then convert it to us dollars
like
its abusive
sorry to hear that, I've been to Brasil - it was really nice. I was there when the money was changing in 1993 which made it a little odd.
and this store has one of the ebst prices
1993, good times
when money was actually valuable
1 dollar is 5.39 reais
nowadays
it used to be like 4.2-4.4 before the pandemic
so
a zotac trinity rtx 3090 on amazon is 1899 US dollars
On brazil it is the equivalent to 2.5K dollars
IF YOU DONT SPLIT IT IN PLOTS
IF YOU DO
ITS 2.9K DOLLARS
1.9K becomes 2.9K
are we allowed to send links
Once your rank improves
ok so ill just explain
this website userbenchmark . when i put i9 10th gen vs ryzen 9 5950x it literally says i9 is better and has slightly higher fps than ryzen. it also says i9 10th has 10 cores 10 thread and ryzen 9 5950x has 16 cores 32 threads
how is that better
https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/ seems to be a community favorite
okay thanks
I mean, the 5900x does have better single core than the 5950x though
That sounds like a software/firmware/config issue
Do 5900x really have a better binned ccd?
@limber dragon
For gaming anyway, at least what I've read
intel cpu still better for gaming
it took like 5 seconds to update bios is that ok or i did something wrong
flash bios
i was putting wrong the usb lol
Yes
Or wait
Say you give each ccd a score/10
5600x is a 5, 5800x is a 6, 5900x has a 7 and a 3, 5950x has 2 8s, TR gets 9s and epyc gets 10s
5900x within itself has a better and a worse ccd, but 5950x has both better than 5900x
Mmmmm new bios
i9 10900k or ryzen 7 5800x will be used for gaming streaming and full time college
10900k IMO
Easier to get, cheaper and similar performance
Upgrade paths are the same because AMD is moving to a new socket for the next run
BUT
If you already have an AMD board
5800x lol
im rebuilding my pc
Well if it's a complete rebuild, 10900k
Really? ryzen 7 5800x has higher performance
a 2 core difference shouldn't be too much of a difference
10900 beats it in multi core
single true but multi is somewhat close, it depends how many cores they actually need
Availability and price in mind yeah
Almost $100 less than 5800x
Jesus it dropped in price
$514
yeah how long could i go on a 3080 10900k
ight good
Hey hope this is the right place to ask this one. Running a Ryzen 7 2700. what bios update should I get ? https://prnt.sc/winr6s
f60e or f52?
F60e then
Some motherboard manufacturers have warnings about Zen 2 but this one does not
How tf are you supposed to put an I/O shield on?
How do mobo manufacturers make these things?
Why can’t they be pre-installed?
Nevermind found out how
you just pip it in?
some are pre installed
My first and so far only was pre installed
They are preinstalled a lot now
So it’s a bit more complicated this time
just a ttad bit
@spare gyro
Let me pull out my 10980XE right quick.
What is the best mobo money can buy to pair with a 9 3950x + rtx3090?
(I'm a newbie to this so pls don't roast me)
pretty much any b550 or x570 over $200
What's currently top of the range?
Literal top of the line is gonna cost you like 1000$ for an aqua
Very high end wise, I like the x570 unify at 300$
Okay let's ignore the Aqua haha, top price is like $400 - plus I have a black build, cant be putting white inside 😄
MSI x570 unify is a sweet top end board ... If you really wanted to put that much money into a motherboard, which I wouldn't really suggest
It's the only board I like above 200$ xD
Might need to take a look around again
Fair enough haha
fast storage is also important
Something like a x570-plus wifi is decent, but most of them don't have bios flashback, which is something I consider to be a given for a high end board

Yes lili they need that hgst drive you're selling
its nice but u use it literally once
Current drive I'm using will be a ROCKET NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSD (2TB)
@ruby laurel here's the thing, if you're paying for the full vrm, you're using the full vrm

Will be putting another drive in later
And that means unstable things
jk its fine but id get a 4.0 plus
:p
Rocket 4 plus' speed can be utilized by very few applications though
Oh no don't tell me this as I have it in my hand 😦
Rocket 4 plus is the expensive one
@ruby laurel what's gonna use it
I dont think my M.2 is plus
insane scratch drive, new games, basically any content creation
It's gen 3
What normal person can take advantage of 7000/6850 over 3500/3000
youd know because the price would be significantly higher

well im assuming this person isnt normal considering they wanted the best board you can get
@ruby laurel content creation wise, Linus did a blind test a while back, couldn't tell the difference between gen 3 and gen 4 drives, hell, blind thesting thought sata was the faster drive a few times
guessing they either want to burn money on big numbers or theyre using it for content creation
im not roasting hehe
yeah i hate that vid
New games wise, until directio comes, I don't even think they have a way to use that speed
i can tell doing any of my workflows
i can literally tell my scratch drives apart by perf alone
What you do need to get with that extra money, is a Keychon Keyboard >:D
@iron seal the drive you have is fine, I like sabrent but their qc is sometimes a bit spotty
youll like the drive a lot though
personally I would have gone with samsung for the more granular control you have with trim and whatnot
@iron seal live in the UK?
@hollow thorn aye
and the better controller/nand
I'll look at boards
ty 😄
you gaming on this or using it for work?
Both
But if you're ever looking for a good keyboard, Keychron has good keebs >:D
second 1111 on keychron
what kind of work
i exist only for storage recommendations
Computer Science, Software Engineering
You can tell I didn't go down the networking route
lmao true
was just making sure it wasnt video or anything like that
as long as you got an nvidia gpu ur golden
but i assume u already know that as a software person
@iron seal Tomahawk wifi a good board,
