#cpus-mobo-and-memory
1 messages · Page 87 of 1
I'd upgrade that cpu before spending money on a GPU
Ehhh
That CPU has a much lower IPC
But very few CPUs (even old ones) will bottleneck a GPU
Make the GPU work harder sure
But it wouldn't stop it from being able to
lol
so in other words, i am technically wrong even though in practice i am not
Nah, that cpu will definitely hold that GPU back
Yes, 1080p gaming is CPU bound due to higher frame rates
@misty belfry yeah fine, just a common misconception that I don't particularly want to spread more than it already has. Not trying to be a little know it all
Except it is
Bottle necking means that the CPU is making the GPU wait
You sound like you're trying to convince yourself that your old CPU is still okay.
I have a 9400f, not the case
AUX is the one with the 3770
Understanding the concept of hardware bottlenecks is something MANY people have trouble with We try to explain it in just a couple of minutes!
Sponsor message: Give Audible's monthly audiobook service has more than just audiobooks! - use audible.com/techquickie to get the ...
i'll be getting a zen2 chip as soon as i can, even though i'll have just bought a zen+
Not the point. The 3770 just does not have the performance to match any modern gpu. This isn't even up for debate, it's a fact and the data proves it.
Look up any benchmark.
That video is from 2013 LOL
I'm notsaying that it's not unbalanced, what I'm saying is the GPU will still be under a full load. Making it not a 'bottleneck'
Just working harder
And unless the term bottlenecking had taken a different meaning since then
It literally is a bottleneck.
It doesn't matter that it's from 2013
The GPU will be waiting for information from the CPU with that pairing. CPu will be holding back the GPU performance. That's what a bottle neck means
Not to mention a. Worse compute performance outside of games, b. Security vulnerabilities that can't be patched and c. Power efficiency
I've presented you with sources and explained myself, I have nothing more to say. Agree to disagree
It's not even a matter for disagreement. There is a "bottle neck" there, no matter how you define it or what you believe. Just becaue the GPU has a load, doesn't mean there isn't a bottle neck but OK
That's what agree to disagree means
Neither of us are going to change what we think is accurate
I may be wrong and I'll do further research
But I've explained myself to the extent that I can
I'm trying to find a video for you of a side by side comparison of different CPU's with the same GPU
If you disagree you're wrong, but I guess you can be wrong. Looking up benchmarks the 1660 can't get above 70% utilization in battlefield V maxed out
The only change is the CPU and the FPS difference is substantial, which shows a "bottle neck"
The 3770 is ancient.
"if you disagree you're wrong" I'm trying to say that I may be no one is omicsient and I'm willing to accept that
If it was like, a 6500k you'd have a point
I just don't think there's anything else to be said and I'd like to drop the argument
You're the one that literally called somebody else out...
Because I thought they where wrong and I explained why
You thought I was wrong
Explained why
And are beating a dead horse
The reason I'm so adamant when it comes to something like this is because it's important to spread accurate information especially to those less informed.
And I said I'm going to look into it
If somebody new to PC's sees this, they need to see what's correct.
No one should take anything at face value
I've made it clear that I could be wrong and am going to do research
like if it stresses you out to argue or something or it gives you anxiety you can say something
I've said why I'm being adamant and it has nothing to do with you in particular.
but the explanation of a bottleneck is quite clear, is when one or more things is dragging all the other things down
@misty belfry no, specifically it is when one piece of hardware is making it so another can't be fully utilized.
i see
Upgrading the CPU with that GPU will show a perforance increase in games
For example if the 1660 was under 100% utilization it would still perform worse.
Whereas upgrading the GPU probably won't show much
that definition is what i'll work with now because it actually makes more sense
If anything
But it wouldn't be bottlenecking the 1660 per se
That's literally what I'd been trying to say, and I guess I just suck at talking
it'd just be causing unnecessary suffering
^^^^
However, in this case it is both a performance detriment and literally a bottleneck
That's literally what a bottle neck is
I just explained what a bottleneck is
Great, I looked at the spec sheet for the processor and thought that it wouldn't cause one
Causing a bottleneck is almost an accomplishment with modern hardware
@lusty warren yeah lol
So I figured any processor (even an ancient one) with that spec, would probably be fine
But again
I could be wrong
it's the IPC
Ik that's the the thing that would determine if it caused one or not
Yeah, the architectural differences and IPC are the real MVP here
But you're right in that creating a real bottleneck is harder than some people think
ie people have told me that I'm bottlenecking my Rx 5700 with my ryzen 5 2600
And that's absurd
It's a good matchup
Lmao I’m not getting one but how much would a cheap 2080 ti pc cost
My friend is looking to buy
I mean
pick one
GBP confuses me
more than all other currencies
for some reason
like everything is the same amount of GBP as it is USD and somehow this is okay
even though GBP is worth a lot more
Pick a retailer, search 2080ti, sort by price, check reviews
Think of it as usd
yeah i basically do that
@naive pendant you can probably build one for 2000 dollars
yeah i'd have a go at that and then maybe someone else can correct any errors
I'd put a parts list together but I'm on mobile
Ah I may even just save up for a while
WIth GBP you have to factor in VAT. Most products in the UK have a heavy value added tax
Which makes up for the currency value difference
Don’t buy ASRock
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JQfdb8 the most power in $2000 i could figure out
3900X i think is valid when dealing with a 2080 Ti
550W PSU for 1080 and 3900X? That's a bit tight
it's 100W difference between the power supply's ceiling and the wattage calculated
i could always alter it for a higher wattage PSU
I would
650W is the most you could need
PUS calculators show a minimum of 527 watts needed
*PSU
good to have a tad of overhead
Also, 3700X would be OK paired with a 2080TI to save a bit more money if needed
THe difference between the two at 1080p and 1440p gaming is almost nothing
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3VmC8M more balance
also i later caught that the CXM only had a 4pin ATX12V connector
instead of the 8pin EPS12V
Ya, that's a good build for a 2080ti
assuming the person wants to have their system seen
i got a windowless case because it's gonna be too hard to manage cables in this one and make them look pretty
at best i can guarantee good airflow
MSI X99A SLI PLUS ATX LGA2011-3 does that mobo work with 3rd gen amd
How far does that board support on intel?
It’s in a custom build that’s being sold near me
Yeah
It’s like the the most reasonably priced thing on my marketplace, people are trying to sell their old gaming PCs for like 1k with specs worse than that
I mean, what are you trying to upgrade from/to?
THe best that motherboard can do is haswell CPU
Or broadwell
actually
You can do much better for $650
Well that i7 is still very good i find
6 core 12 threads 3.3GHz and a 15mb L3 cache i would buy it if i could
broadwell was 3expensive5me
I might if i could read that stickers
usually part numbers on it can tell you for what it was for
my first couple AMD motherboards were socket A
yo dudes
is the H110M-K good
Like do I need LGA1511 Socket CPU's for the mobo right?
@hoary valve
@misty belfry
Sorry busy right now I can help in a few hours if nobody answers
do you mean 1151?
and yeah you have to use LGA 1151 and it has to be skylake i think
i don't know how well coffee lake and kaby lake run on that chipset if at all
you can use i3, i5, i7 7xxx CPUs with it
but not higher
still that's pretty new and the board is a good find if you can get it cheap
you can also get the CPUs cheaper than MSRP
Yeah i mean 1151
Is this good
@misty belfry
if you can get it at a good price
if you can save a lot of money on it
because it's an older board
i won a 2700x ryzen amd on amd twitch stream an hour ago what mb should i get? MSI? asrock?
gigabyte, and get a B450 or an X570 if you can really indulge
the aorus series are good
i don't know enough about MSI's offerings but i'd avoid asrock
@naive pendant that is the HP version of the asus a8ne-le
Motherboard specification for the AmberineM motherboard
amd socket 939.
i had a 939 board once
I had a few of them. still have the cpu's but none of the boards work
939.. isn't that when Opterons were pretty good?
I think I remember overclocking a dual core opteron to almost 4ghz on that socket
are there any good motherboards that are about that same size I can upgrade to?
do you intend to reuse the same cpu and other parts. Only swapping the motherboard? That will be hard to find new. You could probably find something on ebay that would work in the $40-$50 range. The board you have falls in the micro atx size range, but if it came out of an HP computer the case may not fit all microatx motherboards.
i'm trying to figure out what kind of RAM to favor with my money
for the upcoming ryzen build
which ryzen
2600
one sec
i can get up to 3600 CL16
this is probably the best deal you can get
decent timings, decent speed
I use it personally, too, or I wouldn't recommend it
What's a great mother board without breaking 100$ with AM4 and m.2?
gigabyte boards are supposed to all support ir
it
but i doubt they could roll out bios updates that fast
you aren't going to get a great board for under 100, though
to keep up with sales
But you can get something that will work at least
32GB for $110, that RAM you posted is absurdly cheap
yeah, and it's really solid too
i don't need 32GB but, i've always had 16GB for like years, so it's something i want
I mean 32GB for "meh" ram is $85
it seems like a good compromise
some DDR4 3600 i found with the same latency was $170
and that's a bit too much to pay
you don't want to overpay for any of your components really
there's a few you shouldn't skimp on at least
but RAM is one where it's relatively safe to do so because there are good low priced options
exceptions being motherboard and power supply imo
yeah that exactly
the two most system critical components
since they connect to everything
if one goes, the rest could go
yes
power supply goes, your computer appears "dead"
motherboard goes, it appears "faulty
also i'd better buy a PC speaker this time
i always forget
I stick to good headphones because I don't want anyone listening in to what I'm doing 😏
most of the time i focus my headphones on music performance
Reason: Bad word usage
aaaaaa
did it again, lmao
anyway i was saying my headphones are not so good because i spent just $30
Well kinda hard not to swear at all. PG13 is hard
is there an amount of time in which the warnings fall off?
somewhat, dont really know. Two warnings within a minute can get a kick
may have changed tho
cuz Im pretty sure I seen someone with 4 warnings go by in a min and not get kicked
iirc 10 warnings gets you auto-kick
and then you can come back, and if you get 10 more you are banned and may not appeal said ban
I mean there gotta be some sort of falloff. Cuz 10 swear warnings over a year is pretty minimal
i've got 5 in a handful of days
Is this a good board?
not really
Apart from bad BIOS to OC, it's good
For cheap OC go with MSI or smth
don't OC on cheap b450 boards at all tbh
eh, you'd be surprised
the higher end b450 boards are probably okay but the VRM on the cheaper ones is oof
voltage regulator module
Almost all of MSI's boards that have a VRM heatsink are pretty close to the same in VRM quality. Most of which can support a moderate OC on 3900x
I wouldn't recommend it
I have a ryzen 7 2700x
don't OC it and you'll be fine imo
🤔
As for VRM, that 's power delivery to x component. RN it's mainly about the VRM to the CPU, or power delivery to CPU
Well there are looks and form factor to consider
The thing is I was looking at that one
the memory uses the same bandwidth as the sata 6
My m.2 slot does
On the first one
I actually dont know if steel legend has an okay OC BIOS tbh. Main thing that is lacking is LCC support, which that may be a problem
those are the only 3 I'd really recommend for under 100
I personally wouldn't OC a 2700x on a b450 at all
2700x is pretty power hungry as is
I have that asrock b450m pro 4 board. I don't use it currently, but its not a horrible board
the software is horrible
but the board is solid
only good TUF board in the past many years is x570
I have a good power supply it could double its power intake and it would be fine on power now probably not cooling thoe
define good power supply
wattage and efficiency ratings do not make a power supply good
^
600w and gold(I think)
and he still says it
smh
model name would be nice
nope
That's just the entire build
That PSU is horrible
usually power supply being good is somewhat proportional to the kind of money you spend on it, and also how many amps it can deliver on a single +12V rail
I have another if needed as well
It's a 600w as well
It's also old and not unboxed yet thoe
You getting everything on that list? Or already have some stuff?
oof
I already got it bc I'm on a budget and some of it was black Friday deals so they were cheeper
oof
it doesn't make it good, bad power supplies can lead to nasty things happening to your system
just as a note as to why it's bad.
-protections
-voltage ripple
-group regulated
don't even try to overclock anything with that psu, even running the system alone could be potentially dangerous
replace it asap whenever you have the money
imo
The only things I dont have are the motherboard and graphics card
Ok so I've never even overclocked before why does it matter?
The power supply I have almost 150w extra watts
watts are not the only factor
that's a very simplistic view of power supplies
there's so much more that goes into power delivery
i'd be worried the thing was going to turn into a tesla coil
If you lack protections on a PSU, it can burst into flames (this one shouldnt so you're fine there), it can kill your entire system from PSU failure, voltage ripple can kill your system cuz unstable voltage, group regulated can kill your system cuz incorrect wattage applied to 5v rail
Its 10 years old supposedly
It has bad voltage regulation, doesn't handle crossload well, bad transient response, it has issues delivering its full potential when at normal operating temperatures, it's... really not good
Depends on where you live, but for most places Corsair CX is generally the cheapest PSU that isnt bad
Also this is the first computer I've ever built
there are two parts you shouldn't skimp out on: PSU and motherboard
generally it's safe to do so on other parts
skimp out on case to have it short circuit mobo
So what's do bad about the one I currently have?
it can kill your entire system from PSU failure (protections arent good), voltage ripple can kill your system cuz unstable voltage, group regulated can kill your system cuz incorrect wattage applied to 5v rail
basically, that's a ticking time bomb that could fry your entire system
it could happen right away, or it could happen after a year
there's really no way to know
So how do you know that it's a time bomb thoe so like what's causing you to think that?
No by looking at a listing how would I know?
Those are the issues it has
the only way you can really know is through testing
would you like the sources to tests?

No it's just I would like to know if the next one will blow my house up
since you're new to this you probably won't know what half of this means but if you have questions I'll do my best to answer
I'm not an expert at psus either
the only way to know if a PSU is good is to look at reviews of people who did thorough testing of its power delivery and safety features
tbh
i just know to go with either corsair, evga's better units, or seasonic's better units
when in doubt ask people that know
B+ or above, unless you have basically no money, then B
https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40/
PSU Tier List 4.0 rev. 6.3 welcome to the brand new PSU Tier List! Created and maintained by @Princess Luna, @DatTestBench, @Stefan Payne, @GreatMasterAden, @PSUGuru, @Ave with a model o and @LukeSavenije Last Update: 10-12-2019 Tiering of various units is opinion based off r...
that's more or less accurate
God this is way over my head I dont speak electrician
that's why it's nice to be able to ask people what's good or bad
or why that tier list is helpful
because basically what that tier list does is take very in depth tests and reviews of units and organizes them
i bought an A tier power supply because i will have the use case of an A tier power supply
that is a part i already have
i probably went a little crazy with the wattage
but, if you want a power supply to last you years you need to prepare for whatever
eh, it just means you can do more crazy builds in the future
i'm too poor for crazy builds
rob a bank
i'm hoping the 3900x goes down in price
It's always a good idea to overbudget for your power supply
when Zen3 comes out
if you can
that's basically what I did
grabbed a 2600 for like 100 bucks on sale when zen 2 came out
Reason: Bad word usage
f
gdi
idk, probably $400 - $450 is what the 3900x will be. Tho by the time that happens and you end up saving up for it, you'd probably have $700+ or so
i need to work on this
wasnt there talk about 3900 non x?
Good enough to not destroy my system
i picked up the 3600x for 199. I think that's more than enough for the next few years. at least for me
I remember hearing one small thing about a non x for what was only an x CPU
Tho, it was like a one time thing and havent heard about it again, so I really doubt it'll happen
@green mason I can't even find a review on that, I'd stay away from it
yeah definitely stay away from it then
power supply safety has come a long way and new computers work differently than older computers
that's probably even worse than the new one you got
Wait is it ok if I just dont change any settings?
tomshardware this october got hold of the 3900
I mean that makes it less likely to fail but it's still unsafe period
Or even downclock
that would be better but
it's really just not a safe power supply
not for a rig like that
it's more meant for office PCs
stuff like that
I'm at the point where I wish that bot wasnt here 😂
I'm super annoyed that I bought such a crap power supply
I feel you
my first PC literally caught fire beecause I got a bad PSU though
big f to that
Only a bit tbh, I've only recently started learning more about how power supplies actually work
it's complicated stuff
I just looked up what brands and models were good after that before buying
@green mason So uhh, That ZX PSU will more than likely kill your PC. Throw it away as it's just a safety hazard
I’m sure you’re all curious how this unit failed. Perhaps you’d like a video. Well, despite this being the most interesting failure I’ve had in years, the sad truth is this unit was a tricky one. After two minutes running at full power, I saw the tell-tale sign of a dying unit on the power meter when the power draw began to suddenly climb. I saw 670 watts right before the unit went down silently for good. Or so I thought. I shut off the camera, I wrote down my final observed temps, I started reaching for the off button on the SM-268, and…
zzzzzzZZZPOW!!!
It gave me a light show I’ve only seen rivaled by a major fireworks display. And it all happened off-camera, blast it. We’ll find out what went kablooey on the next page.
Which cpu? 9700k or 3800x for streaming/ editing/ gaming
ok so I want #cpus-mobo-and-memory but I dont know which one to get. My budget is 200 (might be more but for now 200) I want to play fortnite at a steady 144 fps.
Sorry to say but that's not realistic. This is about the best I can do. @barren lichen https://pcpartpicker.com/list/66YTWb
Anything less than that and you don't really stand any chance at running it at 144fps
I have a cooler master hyper 212 rgb black and an msi board. What software can i use besides mystic light?
does mystic light work?
Reason: Bad word usage
The ui and options are caca
i go to the brits and try to use words like bollocks
So i want my rgb lights to match my razer chroma witch is in epilepsy mode
i think you need different programs for all of your stuff
But mystic light can only do “music” mode
like mystic light is necessary for the MSI board
and the cooler master utility for CPU fan
and the razer utility for the chroma
Ok but i cant use a diff software for my clr?
you have to use software that's compatible with your devices
Like what?
what you're using probably
Is there only mystic light available?
as far as i know
God damn it
i am not aware of other software
But in general u need the mb s software for rgb headers?
you need the motherboard software yes
that RGB is the tipping point
im looking ata new mobo and it says that it has 1st and 2nd gen support does that mean a 3rd gen wont work for it?
is it a b450?
yeah
It might need a bios update, which requires having a zen1 or zen+ cpu to do... So I'd find one that says it has 3rd gen support
do you know any good ones?
what's your budget?
200
you can get some X570 with that much
a number of them actually
but X570 is a bit of an investment to just have to get rid of the board when zen3 comes out
it's going to have the rumored AM5 socket probably
@hoary valve Wouldnt go with Asrock x570 Steel legend. Bad VRM for the price
basically the same as MSI's b450 VRM
I mean, he said he wanted RGB, it was the best I could find with RGB
¯_(ツ)_/¯
at the 200 dollar price point anyway
eh, maybe. Too lazy to check rn
my board is gonna have RGB and i am never gonna use it ever
yeah same
I don't know if the term sleeper really applies but I like minimalist clean builds
making the inside of your PC pretty is very difficult, you can manage cables and all but that only goes so far
especially my case is an lol
i don't travel with my PC really
no LAN party friends
and no just... traveling for its own sake
I'm moving to Germany and I'll be damned if I'm shipping my computer
I'm taking it with me carry on
just need to buy a cord and flip a switch once you get there
your other electronics will be more complicated
yeah
i'd like to move to somewhere in europe
there are things that are preventing me from doing that, though
tbh I like the US, I'm only moving because that's where my fiance is from zzz
i don't like the US at all really
even canada is like a whole other world of cleanliness and kindness
our level of mean is still kind for you 😛
funny how that works
For me i like having small back up systems like when i plan on building inside that small ASRock deskmini
I used to have something similar from Gigabyte but because it was too old for what i play i sent it to my cousin in the philippines
Was this one which was good at the time when i owned it https://www.gigabyte.com/ca/Mini-PcBarebone/GB-BXA8G-8890-rev-10#ov
Well i am off to bed 😛
yo guys
what is the best and cheapest AIO Watercooling for CPU
@misty belfry
since I wanna overclock my CPU
is the MSI Z390-A PRO any good?
What processor?
what’re the differences between the r5 3600 and 3600x
yeah i just bought the 3600x
it was on sale for cheaper than the 3600
so why not
you can overclock the 3600
all Ryzen CPUs are unlocked
also aux i don't know much about AIOs
so i'll defer to someone else (please don't highlight any more people)
I’m in the process of buying the parts for my system it’s got a ryzen 5 3600 and an aurous x570 elite but I really need some help with which ram to chose
i have a strix z390e mother board with the z390 chipset can i use any ddr4 ram??????
@hoary valve thx for the recommendation I just need to get 50 dollars more 😬
@visual isle yea
some ram sets i have been looking at support z270 z370 chpsets but not 390 i just got confused
to my knowledge as long as you dont do anything weird its as easy as just buying a normal ddr4 set
trident z's if found at the right price are really nice
i just found it wiered no one has this issue, i just fear parts compatibility but i was told any ddr4 ram with the mhz that supports my board will work, but some only work for certain chipsets????
i have built 4 computers but on older style motherbaord with z170 chipset lga 1151
i have the tridentz 3200 mhz in everymotherboard i have made so far i like them,
Worth spending more to upgrade a b450 tomahawk max for my 3700x
For $150 go Asus TUF Gaming x570
Especially for 3000 series
Or if you want to stay B450 go with a 2000 series.
@elfin warren don’t you have that Mobo
@visual isle what you have stumbled upon is the marketing plot of any PR department, also known as PR gibberish.
Yes. Countless reviews state it's the best mobo until the $300 price point
Fairs
There are others that are good. Literally no reason not to go X570 with a 300 series
Even $120 boards are good
if buying a new board, i would agree with bekora @valid karma
Cheers
was looking to increase my ram but the particular ram i bought before is out of stock on newegg, should i just try to mix a similar ram set with my existing one? or go strictly with the one i bought before?
You can without any noticable penalties, as long as its the same speed and latency. I.e 3200mhz CL16
Its good practice to buy the same brand but if you cant, a different brand wont really hurt anything at least to your eyes @serene warren
They are literally identical.
Despite the meme, RGB does not actually affect the rams performance in any way
ok thx i'll go with the rgb
i'd just go with the cheaper one
^ You missed the entire convo
yeah
but it's the same ram, just with rgb and you can usually find non rgb cheaper
The issue wasnt price
The issue was he didnt know if he could mix ram. Read up.
As one was out of stock.
Although 4133mhz being £250 is a big "Why does this even exist" from me.
Then again newegg is pretty expensive.
yeah true i'd just get cheaper b die
I dont actually recall newegg being cheaper for a single part in any build Ive designed on PC Part picker ever, and thats excluding stores that arent as mainstream that PCPP uses.
the white one is like $25 less than the rgb one, and is the same kit he has so i'd go with that but he might want rgb
You know you linked an out of stock product right
And the one he linked, non RGB and the same was out of stock.
Which was the issue.
If I can ask, why are you using 4133mhz ram @serene warren
why not
cause its much more expensive
why not overclock the memory you have now?
for like 1% better performance than half the price kits
Its over twice the price of CL16 3600mhz RAM
And Id much prefer CL16 to CL19 even if it meant that sacrifice. Although Im third gen ryzen atm so.
I have 40 tabs open on chrome and my memory isn't even close to that lol
Im quite low on tabs, probably like 25, using 2gb ram. Which is too much.
Good chance he has background programs open he is not aware of
Or if it is a pre made system has a lot of bloat ware
https://www.newegg.com/team-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820313712 this ram goes on sale for $100-120, i'd highly recommend getting high binned b die and just putting it at 1.4-1.5V and tightening/increasing the timings and speed instead of 16gb for $270
No premade of system has enough bloatware for that. What do you think his pc is, an HTC phone?
nah i play this game which hogs a lot of resources
What game? Lol. AoE2 DE after its memory leak issue at that rate
blade and soul
I cant think of a game that uses that much without memory leaks but, I only play the occasional AAA title.
this game got memory leak issue im sure
According to the forum, use the 32 bit version
And your problems will go away.
"64 bit is all about memoryleak, i wouldnt even tick that on with 32gigs of ram, just use 32 bit , less headache, you can change it in the launcher"
16 gb ddr 5 ram,İ5 cpu (I prefer i5 cuz its so much stable and much more working cooler than i7) ,1050 gtx gpu...
Anyway..70-80% RAM,80-90% CPU usage ...
or if that doesnt work try rammap
32bit version of the game is more unstable than the 64bit version
I play Blade and Soul and it hardly uses any memory
there is something wrong with your system then
Nope, it'd be the game.
My name jeff guys
Why does blade and soul look like a ripoff of RF Online
Well i have 16gb of memory and blade and soul doesn't consume that much memory
Why does it look EXACTLY like a ripoff of RF online
And its a clone of RF rather than its own action MMO like those you listed as far as I can tell
RF is a click based type >_<
unless you're thinking of the crappy one that became free to play and changed things around
and starts you off with a weapon that does like 5000 dmg
I'm so torn right now. 3900x or 9900k. I really don't have a use for all 12 cores let alone 8. All I do is game at 4k.
The price isn't an issue either. I mean at 4k it is more gpu bound than anything.
3900X is cheaper
if price isn't an issue, why not get the 3950x then
cause the 3900x isn't really good at gaming, the 9700k beats it because of its higher clocks, but the 3950x has the best clocks and will be way more superproof if you can afford it and find one in stock

Amazon is stepping it up on prices
That's because the 3800x is a poor seller. Doesn't have a very good fit in the lineup and sold poorly. Time to liquidate!
I was wondering why the one was 50% off
The 2700x?
that's a good price
Especially with included games
That should go in Tech Deals
yeah i know its older and all but i didnt feel it was that good ill post it in there
It's still 8 cores/16 threads
I think im going to get it i feel like it will be an upgrade from my current
i have the current option of i7-3770K or i5-7400
only 50 dollar diff and im already getting the 5700xt
will amd work better with amd or does it not matter
Doesn't matter
^
alright
thanks for the help
oh yah
but which cpu is overal better?
for gaming that is
For pure gaming the Intel yields better FPS. For every day use, the AMD is better for multi core
Overall in gaming rn? 9700k. In the future? Probably AMD
Tho are you gonna stream/record?
The AMD has 16 threads so as more and more programs go multi threaded, the AMD will win out
oh alright i see
If you're going to stream and play though AMD is better
alright yah im probably going to get the 3800x
Don't
save your money and get the 3700x
the difference is 2-300 mhz
not worth the extra money
go 3700x or 3900x
ok
so when should i expect the performance to maybe even out between i7 9700k and 3700x
They're within 5-10% of each other
For pure gaming, Intel wins. For Gaming + Streaming or rendering video, AMD wins
at 1440p it's less than 5%
will older ryzzen chips work with new motherboards
like the 2600x
because i was planning to get a new mother board and then upgrade later
What motherboard?
They are pretty much interchangeable
Ryzen 2000 works on X570, 470, B450 etc
and so does 3000
The 2600x will work in any of the ones I listed
If you plan to upgrade in the future, I would recommend going X570 at that price
Especially for PCIE 4.0
oh wait my bad yah i meant the 570 version
For sure
2600 will work in that
BUT
PCI-E 4.0 will not
so remember that if you have an NVME SSD in the works
ok thanks for the info
Welcome!
The 3950x is aobut $1200 on amazon and B&H and "Out of stock" on newegg. I would rather drop $500 on the 9900k
I'm going with a 9700k + 2070 Super for New NVENC Encoded streaming and maxing out framerates and 1% lows at competitive settings in Fortnite/Apex. Sound good? Opinions?
Hello
On Amazon, it says that the amd ryzen 7 2700 CPU is not recommended for children 3 and younger
ngl it looks pretty tasty :v
I currently have a 2080 ti and game at 4k do you guys think I could stream 1080p with the nvenc?
Might be a bit rough. Best to game at the same res you stream at.
16 Gb of used memory for $30? Is it a good deal?
what type?
So I have a B450m Pro4 motherboard and have some 3 pin case fans I need to connect to it. But the only fan connectors I see are 4 pin. So can I connect the case fan to those? Please @ or dm me the answer if you know
Yes
They'll fit just fine
Have to set your BIOS to VOltage fan control though
PWM won't work
Line up the slot in the facn connector with the tab on the motherboard connector
@naive pendant yes. align the connector with the flat plastic piece to figure out how to plug it in
oh
RIP
Aight thanks
do the voltage fan control thing definitely, i forgot to mention
So is RTX 2070 Super bottlenecking with 64 GB DDR3 1600mhz ram
what is your CPU
the RAM doesn't offer much of a bottleneck because the GPU has its own RAM
oh so you've got space for the card?
Yes
you're dealing with octacore but it's also sandy bridge
So is that bad or not
so the CPU could bottleneck it just a little i think
Fak
it'll mostly be an issue at 1080p and lower
as you raise the resolution, it becomes more GPU-dependent
well the GPU isn't going to perform as well as it would with a single modern CPU
but it will still improve your performance by a lot
you don't need a threadripper
an R5 3600 is plenty
I’m doing gaming/server stuff
server stuff... maybe you don't need a threadripper
maybe you could drop $500 on a 3900X
that's a 12 core processor
Alr well wallet has left the chat lol, when this pc was built it was mostly for server stuff and little mc so i got 1070 then I’m now more into games and streaming
Eh maybe it’s time to switch case to nzxt and motherboard to Asus and get some better stuff
it might help
I wonder if my dell power supply that’s 825 wats will fit in
your hardware is old nad it's very sad that you bought such good hardware (at the time) and you have to deal with it now as it's old
i'd argue against using a power supply from an aging system
Only thing that’s still good this time in my pc is 1070 that I just shipped out to an eBay bid
And getting the 2070 s
Ye back thing this was considered probably really powerful
Ye well with streaming for sure
My Setup lol don’t mind the sprite and McDonald’s cup
games that are more CPU heavy you'll get bottlenecked
games that are more GPU heavy you'll not so much
I love rust and I get 50 FPS when my friends who has 1050 60 gets 90 so I think rust is more cpu heavy
I play rust
Nice
My cpus is bottlenecking my GPUs 😂
64 GB DDR3 1600 Speed
dual core?
You idiot duel cpu
oh I thought you misspelled it
thats a big boy
And i5 is better for gaming compared to these 2 cpus
When this pc was built is was mostly for server stuff and little mc but I’m more into higher end games and streaming
Sure
Hopefully sometime next year we’re going to replace the case and all that stuff
Rn I’m just saving money the rtx was my birthday present which is 28 of this month
mmm
someone really likes you to get you two quite expensive items
Lol
Didn’t expect both tbh
Only expected either one of those
My dad is running with 128 gb of ram with intel Xeon much newer version Duel CPU with liquid cooling from Corsair and gtx 1080 with liquid cooling also 20 ssds
He works home from the va so that explain
Those specs
But the graphics is overkill for him he does not game
hi
would this ram
Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16 XMP 2.0 Enthusiast RGB LED Illuminated Memory Kit - Black: Amazon.com.au: Computers & Accessories
fit into my mobo
my mobo is a
AMD A320M to MSI Mortar B450M Motherboard
yes
should fit any new DDR4 board
alright cause i'm running 8gb's of gskill DDD4 2400mhz
make sure you turn on XMP in bios to get it to run at 3200 or it'll default to 2666 probably
Thanks heaps.
I have an older, Old, Dell Inspiron One 2305 that currently has an AMD Athlon II 1.6Ghz CPU and I want to know what CPU's can I go up to to get a faster one. The MB is a Dell 0DPRF9 A00. Yes, I know it's old but it still runs. No, I don't want to spend a lot. Can anyone help me with this please?
I guess not.
uh
okay can you tell me what kind of socket the CPU fits
hmm
if it's got a socket AM3 you can put quite a bit in it
if it's got an FS1 that's a BGA and you can do nothing to it
also since it's the all-in-one form factor you might have difficulties there
does appear to be an AM3 board https://www.ebay.com/c/1237565911
but yeah disassembling an AIO might be difficult, and if it's only got a 1.6GHz, it may not have much cooling for the CPU, thermals may limit the upgrade options
I want a high tier X570 and will Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro will be fine?
Ye
Btw. I looked at Crosshair VIII Formula and I mostly liked it but it has 2 RAM slots.
This one is good.
But I wonder if it does good overclock or not.
Should I get i9 9900k or Ryzen 9 3950x

Just what I read on google.
@naive pendant @misty belfry when you lower ur ram timings, is there a difference on preformance?
@grim grove it is considered fairly rude to randomly ping people.
what should i do
@gritty meadow
thanks for the ping and who says I cannot
@abstract dagger how much ram you got
@abstract dagger let it do its thing. It keeps on spinning because the board tells it to.
16
@gritty meadow it never stops
the pc is not running
it only stops if its manually turned off from the button on the power supply
question: when you say pc, do you mean laptop or desktop?
PC is a desktop of course, laptop is a laptop
easier to ask instead of assuming :)
mhm, yeah no probs
sounds like your machine is going into a hibernation mode
this might sound silly, but please bear with me here.
should I try switching ram places
ram has nothing to do with it.
when you shutdown your machine: What exactly are you doing?
Do you have any pcie adapters? Like extra USB ports?
Try taking that out
nothing to be sorry about :)
It sounds kinda dumb but I've had a problem like that before
just keep in mind that we might ask questions that sound a bit weird. (we do that because we cannot read your mind or see your actual machine)
mhm, yeah no problems
can you try what was suggested above?
so that you only have your monitor, mouse, keyboard plugged into your system when you do a shut down
aye aye :)
what is the difference between MSI B450 TOMAHAWK d and MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX they are bouth the same price and which one is better ?
well let me do the research
I think b450 gaming max I’ve been looking for Mobo at same price range
The MAX boards support ryzen 3000 out of the box. Non MAX boards may require a bios update
@gritty meadow It still spins
Then I'd go with the gaming max yes.
There's also a thomahawk max. Whats the price of that compared to the regular thomahawk?
also, the max has slightly newer/faster usb ports.
@abstract dagger can you send a picture of your pc?
I sent one in #build-pics
Okay let me set the stage on what I want to do. Optiplex 7020 SFF, the one with the x16 pci-e slot too close to the psu for a dual slot gpu. I want to use an x16 male to x16 female adapter cable to allow the gpu to use the x16 slot. Can I remove the x4 slot that is there now so I still have room to shut the case lid? Is this too crazy? Leave it in the x4 slot and call it a day? Lol. Thanks!!!
@versed apex you got the time for a (potentially) extended support? (for Pres 0 that is)
I can't see that well. Is there something slotted into a pcie lane under the GPU?
No
because if you do, i am just going to go and make dinner :)
@gritty meadow I have a few extra minutes
close enough, dinner wins :)
Well I'm not sure how to help. Check fan connections and unplug one after each shut down to see if it makes a difference
I'm thinking of switching my fan connections
Did you plug them into the motherboard or did you plug them into a hub?
I've got it connected on the one top right I might put it to the one bottom left
motherboard
The case fans or the CPU fan?
Make sure the CPU fan is plugged into the designated CPU fan header on your motherboard
There's only one CPU fan header? I'm not sure what you are referring to
What motherboard do you have?
I've never heard of a board with multiple CPU fan headers
Yeah, there's 2
CPU-Opt will just mirror cpu, nbd, also that^
I'll go and do a switcheroo and come back again
Ah ok I see now. If that doesn't fix it, I'm sorry I can't help any further
@abstract dagger what made it stop?
The switch of the header
Okay so, lets say you have a 3950x, base core of 3.5 and boost of 4.7. Why would you OC it to 4.1? For all core OC instead of single core if AMD's core boost goes that route?
Hi guys
I am building my pc, if I install SSD on my games and windows would it make a preformance boost or difference in game or windows compared to HDD?
@hollow thorn
I hate mystic light
Anyone kno of any issues with X58 LGA1366 and i7's?
will an x470 work with a ryzen 5 3600?
with a proper bios update
can anyone help me build the right pc budget for 250?
A $250 new build PC??
Everything including case?
yes
I'd suggest saving up some more because that will get you a case, motherboard, processor and maybe ram. Still need hard drive, gpu, power supply, etc
Graphics?
u right
optiplex or smth
idk if this is very good
Steal
tomahawk
i don't see it in micro ATX
What motherboard would you recommend for a ryzen 5 2600
MSI tomahawk, it's all about the tomahawk
personally i'd go for like a https://www.newegg.com/msi-performance-gaming-b450-gaming-plus/p/N82E16813144191 or they have it in micro atx @somber trench https://www.newegg.com/msi-performance-gaming-b450m-gaming-plus/p/N82E16813144195
same features as a tomahawk i think, just built a little cheaper
and more importantly is still in stock
errything going out of stock
What's a good CPU cooler under about 70$?
i have a stick of ram and the numbers and letters go like this BLS8G4D240FSB... i wanna purchase another stick of ram but all i can find are ones like this BLS8G4D240FSBK
whats the difference? will it matter?? im loost
Just get a whole new set of RAM
y
Send a picture of your current RAM
do you want help or not..
you can literally see what the ram looks like in google images BLS8G4D240FSB
