Personally I'd say just keep on designing your island in any way you want to! Isabelle's tips are usually helpful as well

Figured I'd ask this here too. So I'm building this new Shopping District plaza and I plan on moving all my shops to it, however I have an issue. Should I place Nook's Cranny on the left or the right of the plaza? Where ever Nook's Cranny goes, Able Sisters goes on the opposing side.

you could always change up your plans a little bit, have a woodsy trail leading up to your resi and maybe have some branches off while you at it? You could utilise cliffs and waterfalls. Either way if you can't think of anything, resetting is always an option!

i think any path could look great with any season. i think you should go based off the overall color scheme of your island(or one you want to achieve?)

I generally really dislike typical villager neighborhood areas, as it has little originality and limits what creativity you can implement elsewhere on your island. If heavily decorated and done uniquely, it can look pretty; but I would wholeheartedly suggest scattering villager houses across the map and creating little areas in front of their houses for each of them.

Of course the layout of your island is totally up to personal taste. But I think villager neighborhoods when done thoughtfully, can have personalized villager yards while making the island and your island chores more efficient. Also if you do it right, it opens up the rest of your island realty for whatever other ideas you have. without it having to be attached to a villager house.

@civic pelican here's what I did with mine. I like to give them enough space so that they can have a personal yard, but I still have most of them gathered in one area. Then I have 2 villagers outside the neighborhood. (1 on beach and 1 in my forest). So yeah just do whatever you want. I think both scattered and both residential neighborhoods are great and can be equally creative. As long as you give them some room to add personality to their yards.

@civic pelican I like having them together because I just like that community feel you get from having a neighborhood. And I have this gate entrance to the residential neighborhood that I like :)

Hmm maybe spice things up, move some things around, like villager houses and put them on a cool hill system. Or maybe add a viewing area with waterfalls, rivers, and flowers, or make an area outside to show off some fossils near your museum

make sure you have a solid theme first and foremost. also, try getting a major build out of the way first, like the museum, nook's cranny, maybe a big terraforming project, etc. you dont wanna be unable to transition into it nicely if you have to cram it in. have spaces accommodate for your big builds, not the other way around

i think what you're describing is cottagecore, and that's definitely a thing! one the most (if not, the most) popular themes. you mean a lot of nature, foresty vibes right?

I tried to go natural as a theme. I ended up with one 'built-up' neighbourhood on the coastline of my island, but then the rest of my island is pretty naturally laid out.

with villagers getting their own zones...

One has a farm, Lucky a graveyard, etc

I put a duck and a frog villager nearby an area with a lot of water.

Yeah I've seen some cottage core builds and I really like them. I do want to try and incorporate more colour then some cottage core islands I have seen. There was one that was described as forest core which I really liked

No I just kept working on small projects, trying to get them to fit naturally together. Starting off with a campsite in the woods. Then a countryside area, then my coastal village etc.

I reworked a lot of stuff over time, but that's good as it let me refine as I improved and had new ideas

Bottom left sector is the Orchard, Pumpkin Patch, and small Zen Garden with bamboo on the left side towards the beach.

Orchard produces all of the foreign fruit (Everything except Apples for me) and makes 144k bells every three days (It is not a very efficient method to get bells but hey it was enough to make all of my bridges and inclines)
