@plain forge oh wow! City to medieval/forest is a big change! I’m going for something similar- from a pretty natural looking city to something more foresty with more cliffs and waterfalls. My island originally had just mountains solely in the back and no height up front so trying to build that up after already filling the place is really hard. That’s a good tip on moving villagers as you work around them and that’s one thing I had a huuge issue with- whether to just move them all or bit by bit - however what you said makes tons more sense now.
As for the paths I didn’t think about that either and that’s something I have to consider. Thank you for that tip @worldly ginkgo ! I was mulling that over too.

There’s two places on my island I love (castle and museum) and everything else can die - but on a positive note that’s what makes this game fun is you can always change and redo stuff

@fathom grove don't know if many people here do island map commissions but there's people on nookazon.com who do! But, with city theme you really just have to look at pics for inspo bc there's not much people can draw on maps for that since it's so blocky. I suggest going to #dream-addresses🌜 and visit to get a feel for what you want! If it helps, my DA currently is in a city theme while I remodel so you can take inspo as well

@rough ridge having alts is tedious only bc you need to go thru the beginner stages to pay off your house etc, but yes more storage, more buildings to decorate into different things, and also with alt accounts you can farm diys (such as Celeste ones) to sell 
if you don't learn them, Celeste will give you the diy again and since your main acc will already have the diy to make you don't have to worry about it

@wise folio late response to the trash thing but if no one answered yet - your island is at 4 stars now bc of the rotten turnips. If you have more than 15 dropped items on the ground then Isabelle will claim you have too much litter, and your three dropped turnips count as 30 dropped items in total

As is, that isnt really useable. You'll need atleast some landmasses for atleast your house, the museum, the shop, the tailor and atleast 5-6 villager houses, to reach 3 stars/unlock terraforming.
Other than that, you'll also always have beaches around the island which can't be manipulated, as well as rocks to the north of your Island. Other than that, you can make 1 tile paths similar to your design, but traversing your island will be rather slow with all the jumping for diagonal paths. You'll also have a hard time gathering stuff like rocks, iron, clay, gold or various woods, bamboo and seasonal items if you dont have trees around.
So if you really do wanna keep a similar pattern, I'd suggest filling out some spaces like the top half-circle just above the middle for houses, shops or the likes

You also might wanna make few less paths, but thicker to make traversing easier. But thats just an idea. Best to just try it out ingame ^^

You'll need atleast (!) 6 villager houses (the initial 2, 3 that move in and one from Campsite). But I think you need 8 to be able to reach a 3-star rating, thus unlocking terraforming. So keep the amount of houses in mind. I don't think you necessarily are forced to get the tailor shop, but its better to plan it in as well. The museum on the otherhand is forced I believe

@lusty bay this is a rough RS position for sure, it's very close. i would probably use cliffs to make a narrow entrance path that enters into RS from the side and you can use the cliffs and trees to obscure RS from the front. excuse the bad drawing lol i used my mouse

@lusty bay well, loads of hills and valleys and rivers like you said. Put a much of hills around, hem in the entrance to force you through the RS in a walkway and then from there you can go to other areas

yeah, a bridge away would be fine. I'd suggest a diagonal bridge to the RS but there isn't really space for that
but if you could do something that incorporates it instead then that'd look okay

@marble mist Foresty/cottagecore is my favorite aesthetic because I live in a very unkept natural urban area. Lots of trees and overgrown moss and stuff. I wanted to have the same effect, rusted iron (used the jail bars for that) weeds, trees but yet it can still be so beautiful.

@vague idol I hold my hybrid flowers and any useful colors for diys on the beach, and I also hold non-native fruit trees (2-3) on the island or just the fruits in my storage, and get rid of the regular trees! Like Ricky said you can go on mystery island to ransack their trees later :)

@storm bluff I've done top to bottom on my first attempt at terraforming and making a theme, and it was fine (had enough space for entrance as well) except I found it was harder to have the island connect cohesively (but that could also be bc I was a beginner and didn't have a full vision of what I wanted haha)

@covert summit I think 5 inclines is more than enough for that area you circled! Smaller cliffs can be decorative with just cedar trees, flowers, and other miscellaneous items, and the bigger cliffs really only need one incline each. You can terraform pathways between cliffs that lead to your house or villager houses on the bottom level too

@fringe heron I just meant that when you have a camper, the Stonehenge wouldn't be very visible. Although I suppose when the campsite is empty, you would still have a good view of it! I personally prefer the way you have it now (just the campfire), but tbh either way would look nice 🙂

@slim bay you could add some leaf piles/cherry-blossom piles to the market alley, maybe some art/plants as well instead of the serving cart? you could also consider adding some wooden stools to be like bar stools if you have a food stall!

@torn geode if you're going for a natural look id definitely NOT line them up. Sometimes randomly scattering them without thought works out really well and you can plan around them

@serene whale It can be really overweaming. My recomendation is to start from one corner of the island and keep working your way over. Just focusing on a small section at a time

@velvet garden I think if you want flowers around the graveyard, black ones would look better (such as black lilies and cosmos). Weeds can make the area look a lil overgrown and abandoned too! :)

The only reason I think bob and gruff would work better by the pond and ocean is bc gruff is gonna have a concert area and I can utilize some of the rocks next to the beach for that too!
