And then I have this scar internally about being treated like I’m invisible and peoples reactions being so underdone. So lackluster. When the spotlight is on me there’s this pressure to be interesting. When I’m grabbing attention I’m too much. Even earlier with the younguns I kinda minimized myself and left because they kinda gave off the people I’ve met in this server and others whether irl or not where I’m invisible despite being right in front of them… and when I do grab attention people respond with such lackluster dry responses like ohh… that’s cool. Or great. Like I know there’s not a voice and face behind it… but to me it’s perceived as this person just wants to respond and then leave. I didn’t hold their attention.

I wondered where you went where do you feel most comfortable like when you’re quiet or when you’re trying to grab attention? I know in the way the world is now that it’s difficult because it seems like everyone has to be centre of attention and interesting, but personally I think the most interesting people are the ones who don’t care what others think I do understand it’s difficult though and it wasn’t just you who felt pushed out by the youngins. I’m really sorry you’re finding things difficult but maybe there is a coping mechanism or something that can help your mind feel less overwhelmed or something? Sorry if I’m speaking nonsense but I really do hope you can figure things out for yourself. It sounds like things are difficult for you, you deserve happiness

My eyes feel like tearing up a little bit… just the fact that you’re saying such kind words feels affirming for me. The thing is… I’m a complex fellow. I’m used to being a lone wolf or a ghost as I’ve come to refer to myself because I don’t want to seem like a pick me or attention grabber like the name calling of the age has come to serve negatively. Like I’m just catering and tweaking myself for others. Even when I’m myself… I don’t feel accepted by a wide range of people. It’s the depressive symptoms mixed with my asd tbh. So my comfort zone is usually being quiet because despite being advised to speak up more by other people… the world has taught me to be vigilant that due to past traumatic events that speaking up equals punishment or danger. My body has been conditioned to be quiet for the appropriation of the setting and where I am. It’s the safe spot. And I’m uncomfortable with being emotional and vulnerable because I was taught that I’d be looked at as having an adult “tantrum” when I’m at a young adult age where I’m still learning to regulate my emotions. Even various forms of anger and frustration. I also didnt want to look like a coward because people kept telling me to stop running away from my problems but it’s like… My problems are visibly present!!! I can’t speak to them!!! They’re the voices in my head!!! As well as whatever’s happening irl!!! But in terms of coping mechanisms rn I’m just letting the endorphins out via crying a little bit, breathing and letting go of the pain causing habit of being neurospicy and having my hands balled up in a fist for an extended period of time for example.

Also ty for the kind words. I have a hard time usually believing that some people wish the best for me like my happiness but I believe you are truly genuine and I don’t have to be vigilant due to a history of mistrust and having my guard up

Also, you don't have to be liked by everyone! I know that is cliché and it won't help in a lot of situations. Yes, masking is a tool that helps in the real world and can be helpful when you need something (like money from work, help from classmates, being left alone). But try to find places (like online) where you get to choose the people you deal with. People think you're too loud, then those are not your people. People think you're weird, those are not your people. These are the places you get to experiment with being you and finding out for yourself which side of you YOU like. Then eventually you can start bringing that version of you in the real world. That way you will find your people, because there are weird ones, like us, hidden everywhere, but a lot of them are shy to show themselves. If you can eventually be sure of who you are and can show it, you will also help others that are in your current situation. But experiment in places where there aren't a lot of consequences, like discord service, and remember that we don't have any say over your real life, so it won't matter 😉 And you are only yourself when some people don't like you. When you're unique, you can't be everyones cup of tea. But you will be special and not boring 🙂

And I personally like people who speak in paragraphs! Those are the people with thoughts in their heads, which is a big plus

Yeah thank you… a lot of my history with people is more negative masking influences because I struggle a lot to keep it all in. And what you said is also very valuable for the back burner thought I had with the whole realization that some of the servers I’m in are popping whenever I’m not there… and I feel guilty of putting people on a pedestal of them being my immediate safe people? You know? Reminds me of an Instagram post I saw where there’s three levels of intimacy with others. Couch people, Porch people and Mailbox people. It’s a figure of expression for how close or how far you’re comfortable with them. I feel like I put a lot of people on the couch people category you know? Like the really close friend/confidant category? Meanwhile with strangers like this and family members…. And friends or anyone… some people might be just porch people. They’re the hearts of people you can just contact casually and they’ll be there but they’re not like your confidant/bestie or whatever you’d hit up in an instant or hang out with. Mailbox people are just like the acquaintances you’d keep a distance but you’re fine with just going about everyday with small talk and they’re just not as close as porch and couch in terms of figurative language to describe people.

That is really helpfull! I am very bad at knowing who belongs where as well and realising that there can be different levels. But also remember, when you think they are your couch people, but you feel like you are bothering them, it might also be that it is not YOU that is the problem, but sometimes your couch people can have too much stuff going on to share the couch with anyone at the moment. I had many times where I felt people didn't want to deal with ME, but then it turned out, they just couldn't deal with anyone at the moment. I needed to learn it is not always me that is the problem, sometimes people can have problems outside me and I'm not the center of everything 😉 I am like that as well. Sometimes I can't even deal with my couch people and it's not their fault. I just need the whole couch. And as soon as that passes, I want to share again.
