Can I just say that the new update feels like it’s just targeting towards the instant creativity and decorating freedom — lots of pre-made furniture, unlimited access to design tools, and easy customization.
Like where is the heart of what made the older Animal Crossing experience so special:
• The grind and satisfaction of slowly earning bells, paying off loans, and unlocking new areas.
• Daily discovery — like shaking trees, fishing, and finding fossils, which gave the game its cozy rhythm.
• Emotional attachment — because when you work hard to build your island piece by piece, every corner feels earned, not just placed.

It feels like they made it more of a sandbox for content creation rather than a slow life sim for personal growth and progress.
Idk if it’s just me but this is my opinion

If they had added new long-term goals (like more villager storylines, special events, or island upgrades that required effort), it could’ve balanced both playstyles better.

I'm happy with what I'm getting and I still consider it a surprise becaue they are going against their word. But what you said here makes total sense. I am thinking this is just a way to appease the masses and to entice more users into the Switch 2. They've been producing a lot of them and with the holiday season approaching, doing something like this is a way to get more people to jump to the Switch 2. Heck, they can even buy the Switch 2 to play the old game. It's still a top selling game. So why worry about pushing out a new version when people can / will still buy this one?
Then it boils down to "what could be made better or stave off the masses" and I agree with what you said: they focused on asthetics and convenience. Sure, maybe a couple of cool collecting updates. If they wanted to keep the game alive and keep going, then I'd be cool with it, but they never should have said no more updates lol

The DS had Wild World, the Wii had City Folk, you can kind of quibble that the DSi didn't have its own Animal Crossing but the DSi was a weird system that didn't get many if any exclusives and was basically just a souped-up DS/DS Lite, the next actual generation the 3DS had New Leaf. I actually don't think the WiiU had anything but the WiiU was kind of the console equivalent of the DSi in that it wasn't quite a real next gen console. The Switch has New Horizons. So yes, I don't see them skipping the Switch 2 unless like the DSi and/or Wii U it isn't quite a proper next generation follow-up from the Switch.

Okay so the WiiU technically did have an AC game then - thanks wasn't sure b/c I completely skipped the WiiU and didn't even get a 3DS until probably 2016.

The GBA I don't think had anything but I'm not sure I'm counting "series not on portables" as missing an era. I know the GBA had something b/c I can remember playing the GameCube version and reading about how the GameCube game could be linked to a GBA to visit an island (?) but I didn't have whatever cables for that as a kid or whatever cartridge the GBA would've needed so I never got to do that to have any clue what it was.

I think this update to me comes across as a stop gap, like how the booster course of mario kart 8 deluxe was a stop gap to world, gives the devs time to cook the switch 2 exclusive game, it gave us one last full horrah, and I think as well it gives switch 1 players enough time to save (if they want too), and if they don't plan to upgrade when it inevitably happens, they have one last update of content to enjoy

Yes, that’s true, but that doesn’t mean I would switch to the Switch 2 myself. The Switch 1 works perfectly fine for me, and for now, I can’t really afford it—and I don’t think I will in the coming years. I play on it from time to time, so not enough to justify paying for online subscriptions, or unless I’m in a really intense gaming period. Otherwise, I play on another console occasionally.

I never had an OLED but the kickstand on my switch 2 is leagues above my switch 1, and having usb c at the top as an option is a lifesaver as someone who uses tabletop

Well it is more so the switch has weak hardware and NH is struggling to handle it, which is why online takes ages to load, amongst just being server speed dependant

And for being on such weak hardware, I am impressed it is staying together so well
