When you return to your island after visiting another player's island, you get 800 nook miles, but if EventFlowSystemActor.IsDifferentAreaVisit is true, you get 1200 miles instead. I'm not sure what EventFlowSystemActor.IsDifferentAreaVisit means exactly, could mean an island you've never gone to before, or one in the other hemisphere.

Answer to my own question: according to some sources from Google, custom designs SHOULD stay attached to a creator ID and remain active in the design portal. (I was kind of hoping if the creator's island was deleted, the design would then be considered "yours" and become editable)

Villagers will automatically fill the plot after some time, usually it's after a day of it being open but it can definitely take longer! If you want to get a villager moving in faster, you can go to mystery islands and invite them from there^^
