I believe it’s the same, I’d suggest giving your villagers 8 wrapped bells, then 1 foreign fruit from a stack while your inventory is full. This will force them to mail you a gift scoring you extra points, on top of the wrapped bells and fruit itself 😊

It means that the previous 'owner(s)' has gifted them items, possibly clothes or house decor. Sometimes the villager will show or wear them! It's generally to preface in case you'd prefer a clean/new villager 🙂
