Animal crossing let’s you be creative in many different ways such as designing your island, completing your museum, fun games with friends etc

you create bonds with your characters, they celebrate birthdays, there are small fun events and you can make your own island however you want it to look. you could make your own objectives too, like catching all the critters or finishing your island. and ontop of it, its dependent on grinding (unless you trade)

I don't think more availability doesn't necessarily mean that it has a higher chance of spawning (other than caps like you can have more snails spawn if you have more rocks), it could help since they only spawn off screen. Bug spawn mechanics aren't hugely known though, this is just speculation on my part

i know the first part of your question was answered, you have to add someone as a friend through the switch, then in game with the best friends app you can add eachother as best friends in order to dig. if you dont have the best friends app, ask orville to open your gates to friends only. he should then give you the app.
