Okie, so for the star rating part, all it's telling you is how many nature and development points (those are the two types of points in the rating system) you need to get that many stars. So to get 3 stars, you need at least 160 development points (furniture, bridges, inclines, etc.), and at least 270 nature points (flowers, trees, bushes, etc.). It's kind of like getting graded on a homework assignment.

For the item points, all that's telling you is how many points you are awarded per item you put out! so if you put out 1 fully grown tree, you'll get 1 nature point. If you build 1 bridge, you'll get 15 development points. Does that help?

the inside of your house doesn't do anything to your island rating, so you can decorate or not decorate it as much as you want ^^ if you mean where it says "size 3 DIY furniture", that just means any DIY furniture that is at least 3 tiles wide. that's more helpful for people who are trying to get 5 stars, so if you don't want to you don't have to worry about it too much.

Other islands were able to come to me, i didn't really test to see if i could do festivale on someone else's island- but the a update isn't really classed as a new update as with new updates you cannot travel to other islands without having it

just throwing down some items. if you do not care for the aesthetics and just wish to get terraforming as soon as possible, i would recommend putting down some fencing (the 50 nook gives you) and throwing down a ton of flowers to make up the nature points. you do not need a mass of items placed but you will need some, just feel free to load down any furniture you have in random spots to get 3 stars as fast as possible
