You MUST have an unsold, empty plot available to invite a villager from another player's island, or to find villagers on mystery islands (and you can only invite one villager from a mystery island per day). A villager in boxes, or a house with the "I moved out" sign is NOT an empty plot.

So! I’m not sure if anyone’s interested in this bit of info but here it is. If you visit Pierce about 6am in game he’s doing diy. Usually recipes. Sometimes furniture. But every other day at this time i can get a diy from him. Doing this i’ve gotten 3 from him just this week.

On that note. If you visit hopper at around 2am you can get a diy/recipe from him too. He’s a night life animal. I’ve gotten 2 from him but the timeframe is only 50% confirmed imo.

The move out method is not foolproof and can take a very long time. In addition, as starboy said, you don't need to reset the game to have her ask to move in. If you just spam talking to her she will either ask to move in again or ask to play the game again

If you have HHP you can ask to reset their homes back to the default look which will change the starter homes to the regular ones - but I'm positive this is DLC exclusive feature... Otherwise moving them out and back in is the only way

The day after you talk to Niko about DIYs, he should invite you into the school to teach you how to make a pillar. After 19 homes is when you can give him materials to get other DIYs. According to other users I’ve seen there is a certain amount of days that have to pass to unlock this section (so it won’t unlock the next day if you do all 15 houses in one day, for example). I’m not sure how many days have to pass, but either wait & check back over multiple days or try time traveling to unlock it.

As Alexander said you do need to place new plots. The next three plots will be given by tom nook and require you to complete DIY recipes and "donate" furniture to the inside and outside

so basically, you need 5000 nook mile tickets (which can be earned by doing quests on the nook phone) . you need to go to resident services (tom nooks tent) and ask him about moving fees, then if you have 5000 tickets and pay it off you should have a house the next day. i hope this helped

NOTE: You do not need to spend 5,000 bells as some sources say. You just have to buy at least one item during each of Mabel’s visits.

Rocks are one per day. Trees never respawn. You have to plant saplings

It’s really up to you. Trash can be helpful for crafting and getting some rare bugs to spawn.

But if you’re strapped for bells you can also sell it

How to MAKE BELLS, the SIMPLE Way:

1. Play the stalk market: buy turnips at a low price and sell them high.
2. Dive and catch sea creatures to sell back to Nook's Cranny.
3. Grow stuff (fruits, flowers, pumpkins, etc) and sell to Nook's Cranny.
4. If you have NSO (Nintendo Switch Online), trade with other players by visiting the trade channels in this server and seeing where to sell your services or goods!
