castilla is great for everything but slow, heavy tanks. they just get shredded from every direction and it feels like you can't do anything because you keep getting shot from across the map. all other classes it's great tho, and I think it's good to have a map where heavies are weaker

for Lost Temple my memories are getting a full HP kill against a SU-100y in my KV-2 and fighting in the temple itself with my AT-8 against enemy team

Hey so idk what the map is called but i know it has a huge hill and a village type area. Hill toward the back of map along with the village. I haven’t gotten into a game with that map since I played the b-8, wondering if that’s just a map for lower tier tanks or if the map no longer exists. It was a green map, no desert

not only do we know that the new (and renamed) mirage map has already been released, but WG always spoils or teases new maps at least 2 years in advance, and sometimes up to 4 years

there havent been any exceptions to this trend, going back to yukon in 2019

at the moment, its only been about a year since they initially teased the new lost temple, so its safe to assume that itll only come in late 2024 at the earliest

None. They’re all fairly good. Castilla could use a major remodel though. The td hills should be evened out more, you shouldn’t have a major advantage just because you spawned on one side of the map. Also med hill is op in castilla and deadrail

it gives a labyrinth kinda vibe that's different from other maps.
Copperfield is a low-tier map so it will never receive attention by WG but basically push the hill and hold it...

Mines can be a little messy yeah.
Lights/meds rushing hill, the base cap protected by buildings, the beach/island side that can create crossfires if no one tries to take it.
And all that on one of the smallest maps x)

I think one of the issues facing wotb with maps is just how uncommon it is for maps to have a place of conflict where it's only a class vs the same class (i.e. medium vs medium, or heavy vs heavy for example). There's always a confrontation, with TDs involved, especially on the side for heavies. As for mediums, it's more of an issue of map terrain for allowing snarky spots for TDs to snipe from

Well, I've already decided that if I get Port Bay I will instantly run into reds to get destroyed and leave game. This map requires communication, which WG disabled for months in Europe discriminating us compared to America and Asia. Meanwhile new players didn't learn tactics and now chat has been enabled but not by default which means that only a fraction of players will read any type of strategy discussion at start. So, there's no reason to put any effort in playing this map.

Which most players don't do because they haven't realized the chat is back. Europe is victim of discriminatory treatment compared to other regions because of a colossal error from WG part, which was the fusion of CIS players into Europe in the current international context.

Port bay is a perfectly fine map when played correctly. Sure there are maps that are designed better and port bay does suffer from the corridor maps that WG loves so much. However, if you’re in a medium or heavy you can still influence the outcome of the game a lot. Mediums which fight on the far side can cross fire heavies if teams provide support. If not they can flank behind and distract tds while the heavies push. If the whole team camps, you can stay passive and wait for their tanks to push. You’re not going to win all of your games but you sure can do a lot better than ‘yolo and die’ @still mesa

I say mines is the worst map. Port bay isn’t great, but at least it allows for some strategy. If you know everyone is going to push med side you can be passive and wait for them to push, or alternatively you can flank around and get off a few shots.
Mines on the other hand you cannot do anything because of the tds that always sit in the back and just camp. At least in port bay you have a chance

Balanced for hulldown heavies maybe. But mediums suffer a lot on mines. The map is tiny and there isn’t much you can do. Go to the islands to cross fire the heavies and if you’re get spotted the tds then you’re Swiss cheese. The only real option they have is to go mid, which you risk getting absolutely nuked in the first 30 seconds and doing zero. Overall it’s just not a map that should be in tier X. Contrast that with port bay which is still bad but more versatile for tanks of all classes.

Actually, not yet. AI can even into real beauty and realism, but it's complete randomness. Everything beautiful and creative there ends when you want to build a composition, when you need details. That's where the AI has a dead end. If something simple, like kitties in space, Trump the hippie or Musk the clown, it's easy. But if you ask it to do the same thing, but change the angle, change the light, make a different pose and so on, it's all over. I've been doing graphics for 22 years and I'm happy that AI can now help me even more in my creative work and save time. But it's like a tool. The same mattepainting was drawn by hand, but photoshop came along and changed. The same artists draw, but faster. So for creative people it's a help and time saver. And for those who write promt to get a random, approximate result, it's just another toy for time.

Yes it's clear here that I was doing real life detailing. But still, the new iPhone already has RTX. So in theory you can make ports of games at the level of GTA 5, RDR 2. Even if not at maximum settings. And we have a map size of only 500na500 meters and the detail on them is minimal, in fact, the main part is the location itself with minimal polygonage and tile mixed shaders and 30-40 percent is the filling, usually clones of identical objects.
Yes, they make graphics that the game would go on Nokia 3310, but why not throw such a public, if it can not buy a phone, obviously, and they will not bring them a penny! And that's why to make graphics for average phones would be much better, and have the maximum level of graphics on PCs and the most powerful smartphones, and LOD system has already helped on devices worse.
Chinese clone of tanks showed that it is very possible. So there are not maps 500 meters square. Therefore, there would certainly be no problems.
But the main sadness is that so far half of the tanks, at least not yet even made in HD version, although their main game is also tanks, only on PC and consoles and there are already all these tanks in HD. And also LODS to them. What is the reason for all this is a mystery to me. After all, to do a small reduction in polygonage and downscale textures from 4k to 2k is not a problem at all. I myself have been working in gamemadev for a long time and I don't understand it at all. It's like they have one person doing it all and the rest are community managers.

I’d agree apart from the “people with older phones not bringing wg a penny”, some people make “interesting” financial choices and limiting your audience of mobile users in mobile primary game is just completely stupid to anyone who has seen the words *business and *model in the same sentence.

Tier for tier their graphics used to be better for the time period they were around, they’ve dropped the ball on PBR as it’s 1 badly optimised, 2 the graphical reworks managed to be net worse than the previous graphics designs for maps.

Personally I’ve seen very few good things come from WoT Blitz’s PBR graphical “upgrade” if any at all. But that’s another story and perhaps it’s just down to the devs incompetent implementation of it, however I do see some issues with PBR’s visual immersion quality that stick out quite a lot.

Hellas is another map that is so damn cluttered with unnecessary obstacles. Yep, let's just sit behind a wall and go forward and back for th3 entire seven minutes. These maps DO NOT SUIT ASSAULT GUNS OR TANK DESTROYERS, anything 22ithout A turret is at an automatic disadvantage. As an assault gun, you can't just pop in and out of cover, you have to drive out, turn, sit for the aim time, fire, reverse the process to reload. Ridiculous is the word to describe the " tactics" for maps like those.

Oasis Palms is tank country, so is Dead RAILS, Fort Despair, I would love to see maps that have less CLUTTERED TERRAIN and mo4e OPEN FIELDS OF FIRE. Tanks don't sit behind walls and play " peak a boo", they either find a commanding position if they have no turret, or they use their mobility to get around for a flank or rear shot. The idea that you just move back and forth behind a Ridge is really GAMEY, and doesn't reflect realistic use of the vehicles.

of course, this will all fall on deaf ears. The developers of this game seem to feel that their game is PERFECT. It's FANTASFANTASYLAND. All these imaginary tanks, and tanks that happily fire on the move, when in fact, in ww2, tank crews were trained to STOP AND FIRE. Only American built tanks had something called a GYROSTABILISER that kept the gun level while the tank was moving, so that all the bouncing around wouldn't affect the " lay" of the gun. And truth be told. Most crews left their stabiliser gear UNUSED because their training didn't incorporate its use. Only VERY late in the war was the gyrostabiliser actually used by American and British crews ONLY, but generally speaking, the idea of firing on the move was simply not practiced. A tank is basically a gun platform, and that platform has maximum stability when MOTIONLESS

I've read more about tank combat than you've had hot dinners. These maps are STUPIDITY. Too CLUTTERED. Y9u don't commit tanks to enclosed terrain. German standard tactics were to keep Soviet vehicles s FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE. When you can open an engagement with superior optics at over a kilometre and a half away, and separate the turret from the chassis of a t34 at 1000 meters, WHY would you close the range unless you had to. You try to LURE the attackers into your field of fire, or if attacking, to use your mobility to get around a flank or attack from the rear.

if you look at what happened to German armour when committed to street fighting at Stalingrad, you'll see very well why you don't operate armoured vehicles in enclosed terrain. Tanks need SPACE and DISTANCE, and mobility should be at a premium, priority one to keep hold of the battlefield initiative and force the opposition to respond to your moves, rather than the other way around.

I operate an assault gun. An su100y. I tire of having to deal with close action engagements, simply because my vehicle is not designed for close action engagements. It is more at home in a dominant position with a good field of fire, what is sometimes referred to as the " God spot". My vehicle can be the fire-power base of a team wwhen others do the spotting for me. The targets that they spot I can wait for a side armour shot, and not have to put up with the " round and round" attack style, which my appalling hull turn rate makes me vulnerable to. I have over sixteen seconds of reload time, and over four seconds of aim time on top of that, so I need a good position and some distance from the close action to get more than one to three shots in for the match.

Port Bay is a stupid cluttered map. No ffields of fire except down the streets. And in a slow assault gun, by the time you've driven around the rear, the match is either lost for your team, or they've won it and you score very low

my poor reload rate is not suitable for a close action contest. Quite a few other vehicles have a much higher rate of fire, so if I square off against a single tank, I've got to hit with every round and do significant damage. A miss, a track hit or one of these truly usel5critical hits, and I'm in big trouble unless I have a secondary position to retreat to

Walter Model pushed his tank destroyers too far forward, and they were separated from their infantry support, and destroyed by Soviet infantry teams. Why? yes. My su100y has only 954 hit points. A kv2 short barrelled gun can knock off over 700 points of damage with one side shot. I have to be very careful to not show my side armour. I have been destroyed in one shot by kv2s, Smasher, etc

The main problem with Mines is that South spawn gets to the hill first. South spawn getting to hill first is auto-GG since you cant get them out of there from North spawn.

you can argue that it's allowed to do this, I won't ignore it because it's hard to get there when you have slower and heavy tanks and people like him will actively wait in place and defend themselves until the end of the game

While he’s being a useless player by going there all game, that’s one of my favorite spots in the game for exactly the reasons you don’t like it. It’s a really good spot for a mobile tank to either hold castle by yourself or to carry a game against several tanks. This game is really easy to play as a heavy, so a spot like this designed for mobile tanks is a really great addition. Besides, it’s balanced because all you need is one person to go to the castle and another one opposite on the little rise on the other side of the ridge. The guy in the sneaky spot won’t be able to hide from both. Of course you will get rat campers like that but it happens on every map and isn’t a sufficient reason to remove that spot.

Pretty easy to counter the campstrat tho, i remembered mirage as a pretty strange map, and personally i will not have it back instead of castilla. But if they change the layout a bit i will sure try it out. But honestly i think lagoon is a sub for mirage, and i think lagoon is one of the worst map rn.

in a mixed red lineup:
light/med- to castle and spot or get ready for a battle,
heavy: one needs to spot windmill hill without taking DMG, other has to go windmill but stay lower or back and support incase 1st gets rushed.
sniper TD: climb spawn hills and snipe
brawl td: head with meds to support them.

alot of mediums /lights on red team: usually an all out brawl at the castle area

i mean it completely depends on the tank you use. if you’re using any hulldown tank like a Kranvagn or M48 Patton you’re going to have a great time. but if you’re in a tank with basically no armor, expect some trouble

also the map is completely one-sided as the other sides are not very useful, like the town and the small isolated island beside the hill

mines really relies on what tank you’re playing, specifically hulldown tanks, unlike lagoon which just requires knowledge and skill to properly work out (still doesn’t mean i like the map)

lagoon is also far more friendlier to lightly armored tanks than mines as the med side is actually quite manageable and doesn’t need a hulldown tank to be able to fight flexibly and you don’t really need to catch up extremely quick to a hill to be able to survive and to spot the team

It's super hard to do that anyways because you always have 183s or jags bushcamping. So it's a literal stalemate if you don't have any tanks on Hill... you win by how many chip damage you can do

Dont know why so much hate for mines (not my favourite but its not awful) , each spawn has a line of sight to clear hill if your meds lose the race, i think they need to get rid of some water to open up that side of the map but id rather have more maps in rotation

mirage was brutal for high tiers, that's why they made it like Copperfield(for low mid tiers only) before they removed it and lost temple was fun for its temple steps fight but other than that it wasn't anything special

even though i think is7 is superior, this chart is slightly flawed:

  1. IS-7 has stronger armor than E-100 as it is more rounded and cannot be penned by most shell types, unlike E-100 which can be penned by most HEAT and APCR rounds
  2. E-100’s main gun is the 152mm, not the 128mm. The 128mm is only the stock gun.
  3. E-100’s 128mm gun does not have good penetration.

Things the chart forgot to mention:

  1. E-100 needs to angle in order for the armor to be great
  2. IS-7 is played as a hulldown tank
  3. IS-7 cannot sidescrape
  4. E-100 is played as a sidescraping tank
