Summit vanilla, without directives, is just less rewarding. It's a lot of fun but many new players just try to gear up quick. Hence CD and Retaliations are recommended more often, I would say

Love to hear it … now not to be a downer … but there is an optimal version of it … you want the third attribute to be dmg to target out of cover .. it’s the most optimal attribute for the weapon … so before you start to put in expertise levels into it .. keep that in mind ..not that it won’t still be a great weapon just if you want the best in slot that’s what you’ll want… so you might want to reroll it at a crafting station til you get that attribute

Make sure you're picking the right difficulty, most field research tasks require at least Normal difficulty and a few require Hard. Story difficulty generally won't work for any of them.

i rolled to cover except i got caught on an invisible object and just rolled in place while getting shot to death

Difficulty in div2 is a bit weird, in that as you raise it up, it makes your worst possible rolls better. So overall you will get better stats for loot in Heroic.
Your best bet when moving from cover to another cover is to use cover-to-cover (c2c) movement, as you take less damage and get hit less.
