Much less so than before. Shields have always been a crutch and primarily used to shield peek at a higher level. Once someone figures out how to use cover to shoot while not getting hit then the shield becomes sorta pointless. It has a lot of downsides like disorienting you when it breaks and losing a useful skill you could otherwise have.

The reason that's changed is mostly LMGs. They used to be garbage but are really really good now. Since you can't use a shield with an LMG everyone needed to learn how to shoot from cover. And here we are.

Also shield peeking doesn't work anymore so there's no reason to use it for that.

I feel like in heroic, shield with all/most red cores is a very temporary 1-3 shot blocker if you have to maneuver somewhere without c2c. Like an extra segment of armor basically. Cause it just evaporates if you try to use it head on even with full expertise and firewall mods

Imo decoy is a much better use of the slot

It can accomplish the same thing I just described but also a lot of other stuff. Way more versatile

its a movement improvement weapon which realistically has negligible effect in the grand scheme of things. the majority of the game is about fighting where quickstep would be of little to no use. sure there are cases where you want to use a pistol as the main part of your build but those are niche and its possible to swap on and off fairly easily. If the complaint is about speedruns it doesnt really put anyone on an unfair level since its most likely that the majority of the top contending speedrunners got it and its also likely not lost to time as far as obtaining it goes.

back before BFB release people used their watch to level up because they could delete and recreate a character and level it to 40 in short amount of time then spend those points on materials, but now that those points are account bound this process is a no go anymore. in 4 days they're doing some kind of expertise weekend event says double materials from all sources

So best way is to dump material into the proficiency to lvl it up

getting the skills and specialization weapons is easy enough as you just have to have them in your loadout and kill things
but for the brands and gears and maybe weapons you don't care so much for will be rough to keep putting those in your builds just to level them up

The best way for proficiency is Kenly College for now, stack all the named item, unique, wait for Kenly week and power level from there

i know when they first introduced the expertise in the game people in countdown had an assortment of brands/gears/weapons equipped

plus they probably put brands/gearsets they don't plan on using as targeted loot, looted everything and donated them all to expertise

weapons is probably a rougher time via target loot as it's assorted in various models per gun type

the thing you can donate materials for are the DZ exclusive stuff and raid exotics possibly incursion exotic as well unless you got the raid and incursion exotics then just having it your load out would help save you materials
