cold take: yes it is. The world is hollow because it wasn't really designed to be open world. The liberation missions aren't engaging because there's not much going on with them. The HVT missions are repetitive and don't really have a lot going on either. The actual missions themselves are good and it would have been a lot better if it was just missions back to back rather than having to trek between them. It was also designed to have some sort of continuation but that died 2 seasons into MP and we've been dead on story ever since, which I believe we're now in the longest period we've been in without a main game release I forgot about the space between 5 and Infinite

The other major problem with the missions themselves is the missions unrestricted by the open world are noticeably better than the ones restricted by it; sieging the Red Covenant temple or whatever they're called to kill Jiraxus or whoever the cringe Elite is, right before you try to save the first Spartan, is such a boring mission because so many game resources are being wasted on the world itself rather than being spent making good moments

the world is not necesarrily "hollow" i understand why u might think those repetitive valor earning stuff and outpust stuff is repettitive, but i think that the game has so much but you just have to play it alot to see it, it has more collectibles than any previous halo game with 104 audio logs, 7 forerunner artifacts, and 12 skulls. with valor you can earn a variety of weapons and vehicles and marines at FOBS. you can also eliminate high val targets for their guns. theres alot of dialogue, and there is a skull for rare dialogue.

I feel like hey tried doing everything differently post-Halo Reach to separate the game's identity. The changed the art style, tried changing the trajectory of the story, changed bad guys numerous times, changed how MP worked, removed a lot of the recognizable weapon sandbox, changed the art style back, adding new main characters that followed throughout the game, even doing massive changes to core gameplay itself. One thing they never tried was just doing fewer things differently, and I would have liked to have seen that.

Though, to be fair, Halo 5: Guardians was the pinnacle of Halo multiplayer and I wish it was properly ported and optimized for PC.

I think 343 should've stuck to their original plan. I feel like I was one of the few people who were interested in where Halo 5 was going and actually liked the artstyle change. I would be lying to say that I was glad they changed it back. They should've stuck with the Created threat and before that they should've stuck with the Forunner threat. I wasn't happy they got rid of the Promeathean stuff after I felt like they found their footing in 5.
