It may be the opposite. Going public meant they had to make sure to deliver a lot of value to their shareholders, now from the public market. Likely also having a say on such as monetization.

Going private means they won't owe money or decision-making to anyone but themselves at the end of the quarter. So it may allow them to cut back on the monetization and release trajectory we've seen over this last decade.

Of course, it may also mean they double down, as you say, but with the buyout that's on them to decide, not an external investor who just invested to get money back.
