While on vacation in Arkansas recently, I saw my first one leap across the highway in broad daylight. I didn't think it was a deer at first because I never saw them jump fly at full speed before. Thought it might've been a greyhound.
It was terrifying.
I've only ever seen them on the side of the road at night daring to dart but been lucky. Down here they stay mostly in the forested area and you never see them out unless you're on the interstate.

That is very fortunate that they're still too scared of traffic mostly. Unfortunately, here you see evidence of an auto collision with a deer more days than not on the roads. And those things do more damage than their graceful profile suggests.

I remember one time I was in a car and this whole herd of deer was grazing in a field by the interstate. Then suddenly there was this spooky feeling, and they all instantly bolted onto the road. Nothing we could do: hit one and were lucky the car was still safely drivable in daylight.

I think it's probably because down here it's a bunch of Cajuns that wouldn't respect the season if they saw them in their yards so they stay far far away lol.

It's a good idea! Especially around dinnertime through sundown. They come out significantly more during that pre-dusk time and nighttime. One time as a kid we were in Baba's old Suburban, and a buck hit the driver's side door. The damage and sound was like someone shot a bowling ball into the door.

If were were in a sedan, it would've gone through the window.

The zone where I live it occasionally has bears going down the mountain in search for food in trashcans. The municipality only recently started placing bear warning signs and what to do if you see one.

At least those generally are more scared of you than you are of them. Unless they've been accidently domesticated by eating all the people food found in the trash cans, then they can get more territorial and aggressive.
Not too far from me where a friend lived, that happened with a bear that would walk around the neighborhood on trash day. If you didn't have an "offering" for him, he'd trash the can and make a mess in the yard.
Wild life people said they couldn't do anything about it unless it actually had hurt someone so that went on for a while
