Halo 2 was also planned to have stencil based lighting ala doom 3 they literally saw the doom 3 lighting and wanted to use that. It’s why halo 2 og looks so bland.

The much bigger game scope also meant less time to make more interesting assets.

Halo 2s campaign is such an upgrade over ce.

I don’t consider ce campaign to be playable in modern day. Halo 2 is still janky and confusing but it’s fun in a unique way and wayyy less confusing, far more fun, better level design. It’s night and day. Everything a sequel should be.

I think those are separate things. Theirs 3 or 4 modes to have: ranked, unranked but same rule set as ranked, and no restrictions casual - then separately you have a menu for server browsers.

Truth is people don’t need them as often. Most players are happy without them and they can be very clunky and weird to join using special rules.

Within a single generation you probably can't. Other characters have definitely had strong improvements that span multiple generations like characters from Metal Gear, Kratos from God of War, maybe some characters in World of Warcraft, but none that go from A to B in the same generation that remain so iconic

We're going on 21 years of Mk VI and the popular voice isn't getting tired of it at all. People were so psyched when it was slated to return in Infinite. It still gets me excited just looking at it.

I'd probably put Link up for a top 5 if you count Twilight Princess and OoT to be in the same generation since they both came out on the cube

But is that really a design change? Or just brought forward to new graphics? Who's to say.
